Nearly 80º yesterday - 45º this morning!  Glad I turned the thermostat to "heat" before I went to bed.

Also glad I went to the grocery store yesterday so there's no place I need to go today.

A friend alerted me to SeniorNet because she was taking one of their classes here in OKC.   I enjoyed the state forums and was the leader when one was formed for Oklahoma.  Eventually, there were enough "locals" participating that the Okie Lunch Bunch got together now and then - here and there.
We enjoyed meeting SeniorNet participants from other states as they traveled through.
I think I may be the only one left on S & F.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

JoanFL

Sandy--I hope your whole day is enjoyable.

halkel--No.  I didn't take you seriously.

Good morning, angelface.

Larry--Good morning.  I remember when I joined SN Joan Grimes welcomed me.  Back then we welcomed folks with a welcome letter that was NOT computer generated.  At the time, many folks posted in the International Cafe.

Good morning, Callie.  It's interesting to me to read how folk's participation in SN/S&F evolved.

Good morning from a dark and cold Interior!

I found SeniorNet through ThirdAge in 2000 however, I spent some years at the University here working with a computer that took up the entire building basement back in the mid-seventies, (Remember, do not fold, spindle or mutilate?);  and after that, the majority of my employment used computers and computerized systems. I went from that computer in the basement of the Duckering building to a cell phone-sized mini computer set up at the Great Alaska Bowl Company. My first home computer was a Gateway and it was a bad experience. After seven failed computer warrentry company repairs, I took it locally and they fixed it correctly so it lasted the next eight years.

I really enjoyed the early SeniorNet before we were blindsided and ThirdAge pulled the same act about the same time, dropping their discussions without warning. Now so many SeniorNetters and ThirdAge are on Facebook and I wish they were here.

halkel

I used to post on a forum on computers years ago, not sure if it was Seniors Net or not.  I didn't go on the other forums and cant really say what year it was.  But it was back in the 90's cause when the new 20's started the dates were all messed up.  I was just learning about PC's and had a million questions and Charlie, who I still exchange emails with, taught me a lot.  And still on occasion will set me straight.  If I remember correctly the site was hacked and everything and everybody more or less just gave up on the site.  It crater.

This story, if true, is great.  Janie, you will get a charge out of this.

Rude Customer Thinks She Can Bully Store Clerk â€" Then He Asks Her One Question

June Drabek

Tisie, reading your note from last night, you are so right. Our bodies truly do rule our lives. When you think about it, even as infants we were ruled by the body..hunger pangs and we screeched our lungs out till Mom arrived and gave us sustenance..the body truly did rule even then…ruled Moms life too.

I woke up at 3 a.m. and tossed and turned till 4:30, then gave up and turned on the light and read till 6:30. My housekeeper came in around seven,so the day got started.

My t.v. is not working. I turned it on and the little red ON light just keeps blinking and won't turn off. So I called downstairs and they will send someone up to fix it.No charge…just one of the services we get at Rowntree Gardens.

Hal, my cleaning lady has started her chores already, she was in and changed my bed linens and clean linen for the bathroom. Every week it is two bath towels, two hand towels, two wash clothes and a floor mat. What a life !!!!!! She will return to do the scrubbing, dusting, and vacuuming. I lhave cleaned the clutter off my t.v. desk and kitchen counter.

Sandy, I hope you have the very happiest of Birthdays..so much to be thankful for when remembering your stroke and how well you are doing in spite of it. God has been so Good, to save you for your family and for us.

Hal..that is a good one. He couldn't have "gotten even" better than that.

Time for a quick lay down while no cleaning lady here. be back later. June
As long as we are here, let's dance.

JoanFL

Angelface--I'm enjoying reading how folks got started with computers and the Internet.

halkel--I don't remember anybody on SN named Charlie.  Your link sure made me chuckle.

June--Those workers at Rowntree certainly take good care of you.  Do they also supply the TV or do they just repair your own?

I guess I started out in the old SeniorNet  early in it's beginning. I, too, had seen an article in the Sunday paper.

I did participate in Boot's Tidbits.  And, then I got interested in the Fibro Board because of a friend who had that condition.  That is how I met up with Sylvia Tribe and Bobby Gould, way back.  Even tho I didn't have Fibromyalgia,  Sylvia encouraged me to keep coming back and visiting there.  I became friends with her and Bobby and some of the others that participated in that group. I was also involved in the  Maryland state board,  which had been started by Pat Howe. I had helped her a little bit with that board.  That wasn't as busy a place as some of the other "State" boards.  I do remember reading the Michigan board for a long time, but didn't post much there.  That is where I first found Norm and Papa John.

It was a fun time back then.  But, I think this new Seniors and Friends board have become a very friendly group, also.  I know I really enjoy reading about everyone's day to day happenings.

My son and his family lived with us for a while, and my grandson's grandfather bought him the first computer that came into our house.  Then, my son got interested in computers and it was a year or so later when I got my own.  I could never get my husband interested in  anything to do with computers.   But, it sure got me addicted.  LOL   I think I am on my fourth or fifth one now.     I have had many wonderful "armchair" travels all over the world.  Sure has been a great learning tool for me all these years.

Just adding my little FYI.  Lol

As I've said, I first got started on Norm's account when you had to pay $3 a minute and I was cautioned to not stay longer than that minute before I got into the Senior Forum (and don't ask me the name of it).  When SeniorNet came along, I had my own account and used to read a lot of the state folders, but only posted in a few - Michigan, Denmark (I know - country), West Virginia and wherever Bunnie was (Missouri probably).  I probably put my 2c worth in other folders too, but I don't remember the names.  It amazes me to think of how many years I've been online.  I bought my first computer in 1985 and I bought it for genealogy purposes.  Now I have that pretty well filled, but still read the programs.

Angel. I just got to read the book which I believe was non fiction. Didn't take long as only140 pages. "Two old Women" by Velma Wallis. Who is of the Athabaskan tribe if Believe. she has 2 other books out. Small like this one.
Life must still be rough for those people.

Sort of dreary here today. Beginning to get colder. Suppose to be down the 40s tomorrow. We may as well accept it. Winter is coming and I am not looking forward to it at all. But we have done good for it to get to be the end of November and quite nice. Hope will be a short winter.

Not seen Jeannelee posting. Is she O.K?

I was reading how many people flying for TG. and what a mess will be in the Chicago airport and they are voting to strike today.  I would not travel during the holidays if tickets were free.
JeanneP

JoanFL

Joy--So many different ways (and equipment) were used by participants from the time they got a computer and got on the web.

Mary Ann--I can't remember the name of the site where Norm and Papa John first got on the net either, but know it was costly.

JeanneP--Jeanne Lee has been around but on a limited basis.  She's had some health problems.  I am glad not to be flying over Thanksgiving, too.

Sandy, I hope your special day has been a beautiful time for you. I'm so glad you are still there after that stroke.

Bis, Yes, it is my t.v. but I pay for the hookup to their server.

Attended a wonderful program today, called "Coping with the Holidays". The speaker is am employee of Rowntree, and a former Hospice worker. She was great !

Now I'm going to scoot downstairs for a bandage change.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

JaneS

Had a nap and went to Appleby's for supper with my neighbor.  I feel much better and I don't have to work tomorrow or Sunday.

Joanie, enjoy your company.  I will never forget how old Finlay is.  He was born only a few weeks before Kiran.  She will be 10 on the 18th of December.

Now I'm going to go get my jammies on and relax for the the rest of the evening.  Have a good one, Everyfriend!

Well, I have a special Grrrrrrr.
We went to Red Robin for fish and chips, which was very good then ordered a chocolate dessert to bring home to have tonight.  Guess what we did? Walked off and left it setting on the table and traffic was so bad no way were we going to go back, anyhow we were almost home when we discovered what we had did.  Hope someone enjoyed it.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

June Drabek

Bis, I know you will have a wonderful time with Joe, Kate and Finlay. Any more thoughts of moving to their area ? I am so glad I am near Gary and Dori, and in this wonderful place where they don't have to worry about me.

Hal, Sorry you missed your choc. dessert, but some one will gain from your oversight so don't grrrrrrrrrrr yourself miserable. I can give you some Hershey kisses, or some Dove pure milk choc. some Snickers or Milky Way bites, or all four or more.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Shirley

Haha, June, you sound as bad as me with all that candy!  I'm stocked up & will hang it all over the Christmas tree... I think 3 of the great grands will enjoy my candy tree.

Sorry you left your dessert behind, Hal..... how could you do that????::)

I got one turkey baked, de-boned & all ready to put together with 4 bags of Reams noodles.  I am totally disappointed in Butterball turkeys... no pop up button and no neck to boil with the giblets for good broth.  I usually buy Honeysuckle White or the store brand & both are better than what I baked today.  Good thing I bought 8-10 cans of broth, afraid the giblet broth won't have as much flavor as usual.  I put in every herb & spice that my chart calls for for poultry or pheasant.... house smells good.

Oh, Sandy, hope you had a wonderful day!  Yesterday was my son's & I was so sure yesterday was the 16th I didn't even wish him a happy birthday when he was here doing a bunch of odd jobs for me.  I even put the wrong date on some checks I wrote, still felt like a horrible mother to not wish my own kid happy birthday!

Time to get to bed... Hope everyone has a good night and wonderful tomorrow.  God Bless.  Shirley

JaneS

Just stopped by to wish Everyfriend a good night.  But I have to take a minute to offer Hal some home made chocolate goodies.  HAL would you rather have chocolate covered peanut butter saltines, peanut butter cups, coconut cups or a variety of all?  I'll put some in the Hidey Hole with your name on them.

And now...Good Night Everyfriend!  May God bless us, every one!

I am headed off to bed.....pleasant dreams to EVERYFRIEND.

CHUCKLES

Public Servant

"Give me a sentence about a public servant," said the teacher.

The small boy wrote: "The fireman came down the ladder pregnant."

The teacher took the lad aside to correct him. "Don't you know what pregnant means?" she asked.

"Sure," said the young student confidently. "It means 'carrying a child'."

Food For Thought

Opportunity For Action
(By Steve Troxel)

We often see the call of God as accompanied by a perceived risk. The risk we see may be in terms of finances, rejection, or failure; but there is always an element of the unknown in God's call which requires us to trust and increase our faith. We should note that when we follow God's call, the true risk only exists in our mind.

Oh, please don't misunderstand. Following God's call may require sacrifice and painful perseverance followed by seasons of doubt and frustration. There may even be severe trials and hardships along His path. But despite our physical circumstances, the middle of His plan is the safest and most secure place to walk. Walking in His perfect plan is eternally safe and secure, but it will continually call us to actively take steps of faith, one after the other.

When the tax collector came for the "two-drachma" tax, Jesus gave Peter very interesting instructions on how to obtain the necessary funds.

Matthew 17:27 "Go to the lake and throw out your line. Take the first fish you catch; open its mouth and you will find a four-drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for My tax and yours."

With all the power of Creation at His disposal, Jesus could have produced any number of coins and made them readily available. Yet, with the tax collector waiting by the door, Peter was told to excuse himself and take a fishing line down to the lake. Why go through all this trouble with the fish?

Our walk with Christ involves a long process of developing and growing our faith. It would have taken very little faith for Peter to pick a coin off the table and pay the tax. He was therefore given the "opportunity" to strengthen his faith as he trusted Jesus and not his own understanding (Proverbs 3:5-6). Peter's faith grew, and therefore his closeness with Jesus, as he obeyed and cast out his fishing line.

Jesus is able to fully meet all our needs (Philippians 4:19). But He loves us enough to lead us to specific action; "faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead" (James 2:17)...Our faith becomes alive and we grow closer every time we obey, follow, and take the step!

What is Jesus asking of us today? Many are facing some very difficult decisions. We don't understand why God is calling, and we can't see how His plan will fit together. His call is probably nothing as far fetched as the coin in the fish, but the message in His call is the same; He is saying, "Trust Me and love Me with all your heart!" When our Savior calls, we must be prepared to follow; because, when He calls, we will always be given the opportunity for action.

Have a Christ Centered Day!
