Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning, Lloyd.  Here they say a cold front will be moving in, and it will be in the 30s tonight.  That's mighty cold for Florida.

Amy--Good morning.  Is today the day you're making the applesauce?  That always makes the house smell so good.

Joan, would love to see a photo of birthday boy when he shows up...think we will all be in for a shock on how much he has grown...

JoanFL

Good morning Vanilla-Jackie.  I'll try to get a picture.  He's at the age where he doesn't like to have his picture taken.

Good Morning Everyfriend!

Joanie, Kiran, at the same age as Finlay, will strike a pose for anyone.  She's such a HAM.

I'll be making chocolate today and, if I get around to it, raking a few leaves.  I'll take any excuse to get out of that job but it's a necessary one.  First, I have to go buy a new rake.  My old one seems to have disappeared.

Beeper is going off.  Time to go finish making the dog food and feed the doggies.  Make it a good day, Everyfriend!

JoanFL

Good morning, Janie.  I wish Finlay liked his picture taken as much as Kiran.  Aren't there any teens in your neighborhood who would like to make a few dollars raking leaves?

Click for Melbourne, Florida Forecast

JaneS

Joanie, my neighborhood is mostly retirees (except for my good neighbors across the street who take care of my snow) and is bordered on one side by a trailer court where most of the residents are either retirees or snowbirds and on the other side by a high rise for elderly and disabled.  And on another side by a neighborhood of condos for older people.  In other words, no teenagers for miles around.  Grandchildren who used to help me for pizza are grown up and moved out.  I had thought of asking at church but I don't know any of the families with kids.  I guess I own the leaves.

Gloria

Good morning everyone, looks like fall  temperatures are finally getting here this week. I think we all enjoyed the warmer weather we have been having, no complaints but it is not normal.

JOAN  I should have tried getting in here later on Thursday and found the site back. There are a few here I could ask to take me for appointments but I know how they talk about that after they do that for others so will not ask.

HAL  knowing you like to tease I would never take you seriously. I am like that, too. Those who do not know me take me seriously. Heck we do have to have some fun at times, right?

LARRY  when my son gave me his old IBM my grandson installed the free Juno but all it was good for was sending email. I soon got the paid version and with that I found SN. The dial up connection was very slow. My grandson networker my PC with my DIL downstairs and we split the cable bill. Big difference.

JOAN  when I first got to SN I looked at all the different topics and passed Wit and Wisdom. Thought I am not witty or wise. It was not till Mare emailed me to join in there that I did, I have been with you since then.

PATRICIA  my grandson set up Facebook for me but I have not checked it fo more than a month. I just do not seem yo have the time or any interest in it.

HAL  I imagine many clerks and managers have had customers like that. Goodness that woman was really rude.

JUNE  I want to move where you are. Boy to get all you do there would be heavenly, especially not having to cook  or should I say try to cook.

JOY  I remember I was asked to do the Rhode Island board, never had many visit there. There was only one other from RI, Mal. The others who did visit there were from other states. When Bunnie took over the Missouri one I posted there and the Nest, That was about all. When I first got online I liked looking at photos of other states. I never traveled much but l still love looking at scenery from other states.

JOAN  wonderful that Joe and family will be there for a visit. I know you are looking forward to it. Sure would love to see a new picture of Finlay. Just a tad bigger than that first one of him propped against the bug teddy bear. My oldest great grandson is about the same age as Finlay.

HAL  I would be angry too if I forgot a chocolate dessert in a restaurant.

SHIRLEY  I think the smell of turkey baking has more to do with my appetite on Thanksgiving. Yesterday was my oldest grandson's 41st birthday. It will be 411 years tomorrow that I had my first plane trip.

JOAN  will enjoy your breakfast this morning. Another good Food for Thought, thank you for all today's goodies.

LLOYD  good morning. Hope it is not too cold when you go outside.

AMY  I have some apples that I need to get into sauce, only need the ambition to do it.

JANE  sure glad I do not have to rake leaves anymore. I liked doing that job when I was young, anything to get outside.

Janie--I guess you'll have to rake.:(

Good morning, Gloria.  I still love the picture of the newborn Finlay and that giant teddy bear.  It was 411 years ago that you had your first plane ride?  Goodness, you do age well.:):)  Couldn't you ask your CNA to make the applesauce for you?

Good Morning Everyone!

Gee Gloria you don't look a day over 400.  Never would have thought you were 411.........hehehehehehe.

Janie, yes.  I will check hidey hole later today.

Today is our church Thanksgiving dinner at church and I am looking forward to it.  I think I will get all the sweets I need or want.  And in any variety I want.

It is downright cold here this morning.  Got to turn the heat on.

Shirley don't feel bad, at our age and with the all the kids, grandkids and gr grandkids how can you remember without writing them down on the calendar.  That is what we do.  I'll bet your house does smell good.

phyllis

Yes, Larry, yesterday we had a lot of smoke from the fires in western NC.  I stayed in because the smoky air plays havoc with my asthma but when I looked out the windows it was almost like a light smog hanging over us and you could smell it even inside the house.  It seems clearer this morning because the winds have shifted a little farther to the north and the smoke is going south of us.  Some of our town's firefighters are on the line trying to control those fires.  I hope they can get it controlled soon.  It is burning some beautiful country  and disrupting the lives of a lot of people.  It's always something here....hurricanes, terrible floods, wildfires, tornadoes......etc.

Our first computer back in the early 80's was a Commodore.  And there was no internet then.  When we moved from upstate NY to NC we had a dial-up connection that connected us to a server in Durham.  Slooooooowwwwer than molasses....and expensive.  Tom, of course, had been with IBM since 1956 but he was always involved with the large frame business computers so the new PC's were a learning experience for both of us.  His major client was Farmer's Insurance on Wilshire Blvd. when we lived in Los Angeles.  Their computer took up the entire lower level floor and was huge.   He tried to teach me programming but I always seemed to end up in an "endless loop".  Years  later, in the 90's, I got started on Sr.Net and was the Discussion Leader for the Needles, Shuttles and Hooks forum.  And through that I got in to Web Page design and learned HTML.  I rarely ever use that, or BC, now so have forgotten most of it.

Must get some breakfast and get my day started.  TTYL

Good morning, halkel.  You like the sweets better than the turkey?  Enjoy!!

Chia--Good morning.  Thanks for the nice JL card.

Good morning, Phyllis.  We have smoke coming all the way from the SC fires.  They are advising the elderly and folks with breathing problems to stay inside.  Ray, too, worked with those huge main frame computers and never really got interested in PCs.  I do remember my struggle to learn HTML.

Hi everyone on another beautiful Saturday morning headed up to 70 around noon and then cooling off and it will be much cooler tomorrow.  We didn't make it to COSTCO yesterday as Pat wanted to get a haircut and after we did that we went to eat a big lunch at Chick-fil-a.  We came home to rest and then decided our shopping trip could wait until this next week.  We have no plans for today other than I plan on watching college football this afternoon.

Joan, I had forgotten the name of the general discussion on SeniorNet.  Thanks for remembering it was the International Cafe as that is where I met many new friends. A nice early Thanksgiving treat to have Joe, Kate, Finlay and Daisy coming to visit and can also celebrate Finlay's birthday.

Patricia, I do remember the card input to run programs on the mainframes.  I took a college course where we had to write a program to accomplish something and had to keypunch our own input.  I was glad when that course ended and I had passed it.

Hal, I think it was you that was so helpful with information about computers years ago.  Do I remember correctly or was it another man? I have gone off and left my to go cup of Coke on the table but never a dessert.  The restaurant probably just discarded it as they cleaned the table.

Shirley, please be kind to yourself as you didn't forget your son's birthday on purpose.  We still haven't decided what to do for our Thanksgiving dinner.  I did call a bar-b-q place we like and they were smoking turkeys but each one was $50 and that is just too expensive for only three of us.

Gloria, I still have a few friends who use the Juno email service.  I used it when I first started on the computer but didn't really care for it.

Phyllis, I can't image what a terrible job the firefighters of a forest fire have. I am glad they are willing to do the job.  We haven't had the smoke here for about three days now.  Apparently many of these fires were set by arsonists.  Like you I no longer have a need to know the HTML and also have forgotten most of it.

Joy, you have been blessed not to suffer Fibromyalgia. My poor wife has had it since childhood and suffers daily with it acting up in some area of her body.  The computer does open up the world to us.

JeanneP, I agree with you about traveling by air on Thanksgiving or Christmas.

JoanFL

Good morning, Larry.  Another football day and although I am not interested Joe and Finlay are huge fans, so guess I'll read while they are watching.  We sure will be celebrating Finlay's birthday while they are here.

"Back in the day" there were several sites that supplied free space for personal web pages and a lot of us learned HTML to take advantage of those offers.  I still have the thick book I bought for it.  And I still have a folder on my pc titled "My web page". :rotflol:   I think it was Herb (?) who got us all started and we had a lot of fun with it for a while.

Good morning, Jeanne.  I had that thick HTML book, but tossed it when I moved.  I remember Herb Holden helping with it, and remember using GeoCities for a webpage and to store images.

Good morning!

I definitely remember doing web pages and I took an HTML course for it. You had to type about half of the page to necessarily  set it and then it only showed a couple of lines! In between the heading and footing I generally just had photos. I was more involved with Third Age when I was doing web pages. Then when I got to SeniorNet I discovered PaintShopPro and PowerPoint.

JaneS

I wonder how many of you remember the BOOK EXCHANGE on the old SN?  It was run by none other than our own LARRY HANNA and it afforded me many hours of happy reading.  I could always find something to interest me on that board!  Thank you LARRY for your time and talent for all of us.

Good Morning,

I had to knock ice off the bird watering pan this morning - as I was on the way to put Miss Ellen's Thanksgiving card in the mail.  She finally gave me her mailing address.

She said she wasn't going to the Macy's parade because getting there and back home would be a challenge.  I suspect she'll see more of it on tv than she would in the crowd, anyway.
Don't know what her plans are for Thanksgiving Day but I know she has to work on Black Friday.

Sons are in southeastern Oklahoma deer hunting.  Grandson's nose is out of joint because OSU isn't out until after classes on Tuesday and his fraternity had an event this weekend that he had to attend, so he couldn't go.  Also, Miss Emily is already home because her Monday/Tuesday classes were cancelled.
Can we all say "Awwwwww" for Sir Carson?   :'(

I thought about mixing up the Martha Washington candy so I could "dip at leisure" - but son is supposed to be bringing home fresh shelled pecans for his wife and me.  Maybe next weekend.....

Joan,  I'm so glad that Finlay and parents are visiting.  It would be fun to have a "decade" picture of him with the big bear.

Can't contribute to the HTML etc. thread because I have no idea what you're talking about.  (That's o.k.  I'm happy in my ignorance.   :uglystupid2: )

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

Good morning EVERYFRIEND!

JOAN, I forgot to mention how excited I am for you that your family will be visiting you and celebrating Finlay's Birthday.  After getting in to bed and starting my prayers....the light went off in my head....enjoy this special time together.

It is a bright and sunny, but chilly morning here in the Mile High City.  I have a load of clothes in the dryer....and the machine just played me a tune to say, "come and fold me", so I must away.

Enjoy your Saturday.

Good morning all, Just finished my breakfast, after the readings and exercise and massage. I have done a full days work before I leave my bed and recliner. I am SO sure I am helping these legs stay alive it is worth the effort I'm putting into it.

Tisie, there is something about the aroma of a roasting Turkey that nothing else can compare too. I agree with needing those gizzards, etc. for broth…the real thing. But I know your banquet will be perfect. Thanks to the Indians and Pioneers too !

Bis, I had to send your  "chuckles" off to Dori. I just had the feeling she would really like this one. Thank you !

Lloyd, I pray you too will have  great day, with renewed health and strength. We here in Stanton, CA. will have sunshine, with a high of 73 and a low of 50. I find out temperatures on the Internet.

Amy, you are busy…busy…are you canning apple sauce, pies, cider ???

Bis…wow…30's in Florida. Now that is rare. I do recall years back when they had a freeze and much fruit was ruined. Mother Nature is not always kind.

Janie, those leaves would make great mulch as they shriveled up and died under the snow.

Gloria, how I do wish that all places for the aging could be like this one. I am SO thankful. I can hardly believe what I have. Went down for a bandage change on my leg yesterday and one of the nurses I haven't seen for a while, told me she had missed me and she gave me a loving kiss and hug, then changed my bandage. They are SO gentle in taking off the tape, unbelievably caring. This place is "run" by the Quakers. They do not use the term "owned", they claim not to own anything. It is advertised as "Non profit".It is a little more costly than where I lived in Hemet, but the loving care is way beyond getting what you pay for.

Chia dear, thank you for that Thanksgiving card. You are a Sweetie for thinking of all of us. I wish you would join in out chit-chat when you have time. Hugs to you !!!!!!!

It is after 10 a.m. and I am sitting here in pajamas looking at an un-made bed. So off I go for the nonce. June

I had a nice surprise visit from my grandson, a lawyer in Atlanta and his girlfriend, a lawyer in Orlando.  I am anxiously waiting for Joe, Kate, Finlay and Daisy to arrive.  I'll be scarce for a couple days while I enjoy their visit.

I think our Bis had her beloved people arrive, it has been quiet in here. I hope she takes the next two days off and just enjoys her family. We will behave and not get into trouble. O.K. ???

I just had a small but tasty supper of leftovers..a big lunch downstairs so I wasn't too hungry. I did another load of laundry earlier...second one this week. That is a first for me, but I had a bunch of dark things that needed a fresh start.

Gloria de, I pray the colored lights have stopped appearing in your eyes. I looked it up on the computer but google didn't give me any terse information. I would not hesitate to alert my doctor if it lasts. I'm praying right now that it is all gone and you can see fine.

Just heard a loud boom from outside...quite close by,,,so  I said another prayer that all is O.K. out there too. God is kept pretty busy with all our arrow prayers, but He is a Big God and can handle it well. Thanks be to God.

JOAN, suprise visits are the BEST.  Nice that your grandson and his lady came by to see you.  I hope the family arrived safely and you all enjoyed a very nice time together.

SHIRLEY, I have thought about you and your family all being together today and enjoying the yummy food you have prepared for them to enjoy.

AMY, it was sure good timing that you got the clothes off the line before the rains started.

GLORIA de, sorry you are having eye problems....hope the rainbows do not mean there is something serious going on.

Thank you, CHIA, for the nice Thanksgiving card you shared with us.  I love those cards so much and yours was especially enjoyable.

CALLIE, it would be nice if Miss Emily could see the parade in person.....  best of luck to the hunters....sorry your grandson was not able to join them.

PHYLLIS, sorry to read that you are having to deal with the smoke from the terrible fires.  It can sure be bad and cause problems.

LARRY, it always upsets me to think that someone is capable of setting a fire that can cause so many a terrible situation.  Many of our fires are also set....terrible!  Glad that Pat continues to feel better and is able to get around more.

JANE, my grands are like your Kiran; always ready to have their pictures taken!  It sure would be great if Joan can manage to get a picture of him....especially if it could be in front of that big ol bear!!

Hi JUNE, good to see your post...it is kind of quiet in here today.

Hope you all have enjoyed your Saturday....

Pleasant dreams to all,    Good morning, JACKIE.

Well I did NOT have a good day and I'm now having a major pity party for ME.  I spent a couple of hours and a lot of energy raking leaves and had half the yard inside the fence clear.  I came in to have some lunch and rest a bit, fell asleep on the sofa and woke to the sound of the wind chimes.  Yep!  The wind was blowing and the yard looked worse than it did before I started.  And, as I stood out there with the doggies, the rains came.  Now I not only have a yard full of leaves but they are way to wet to rake even if I had the energy.  What a major pity party is going on here.!  I don't suppose anyone wants to join me?

I hope you all had a much better day and I hope tomorrow dawns bright and cheery for all of you.  Good night Everyfriend and may God bless us, every one!
