Good Morning,

Joan,  so glad to know that Joe, Kate and Finlay (does his name have a "d" or not?) arrived home safely.

Gloria,  I like last-minute things like you had but when it's an event at a certain time and I need transportation, I need plenty of advance warning.

Amy,  wishing the best for your husband.   #2 son had heart issues in his 20's and had to be shocked a few times.  He's now 50 and the arrhythmia is taken care of with medication.

Emily told me she's working Thursday from midnight - 6:00 a.m. for Black Friday.  I know Ellen is also working but don't know her hours.
Emily also said that Ellen and some friends are planning a "Friendsgiving".  I'd never heard that term and was surprised to see it mentioned in a news article on my internet page yesterday afternoon.
Apparently, it's a pot-luck event that young professionals living away from families have started doing when they can't go home for a holiday.  Sounds like a great idea.

As planned,  I'm having a "leisurely" day.   Will chop and crumble and mix the dry ingredients for the dressing later on and bake it tomorrow to have ready when #2 son/dil pick me up.  (I assume they're still doing so;  haven't been given a time <sigh>)

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day (as well as a Wonderful Wednesday < Shirley>)

Bis, I am going to try to adopt your attitude of "throwing one less worry in the trash".l I tend to let a worry wear me out, and that is foolish when I know our Good Lord is always in charge.

Amy, my son has Atrial Fibrilation, so he chose to have that shock treatment on the heart. The first attempt did not do any good, so he went through a second one and it "took". He still will have very mild fibrillation, but says it is not serious enough to worry about. I pray your dear husband will find perfect results.

Jeanne Lee, I too am glad those days of cooking are finished. I must say the results were always worth the effort though.

Larry, I thank you. I did have a very good night..no leg pain till I woke this morning, then I did the usual massage, and it seems to help. I see my doctor today, so it will be interesting to get her in-put.

Gloria, I have a friend here that had a doctor like yours..she finally dropped him, and is now seeing the same woman doctor I have at our Clinic, and she is delighted. Things are finally being done, not just poo-pooed. I was wonderful having my little great grands here, but my dear Grandaughter recognized I was tiring, as she came and whispered in my ear, "Grandma, are you getting tired ?" and I replied, Yes, so they packed up and went on their way. Now I have all the delicious memories to enjoy.

Hal, it does seem like when the body starts failing it does it in a big hurry. When you consider how we have used, and sometimes abused our bodies it is not surprising that that piece by piece they need repair or replacement. I find that we do learn to value each day more and more as a gift, and appreciate what we have left. I am thankful for what we can do now, with God's help.

Gloria de, have you seen your eye doctor yet ? I may have missed something, but I do pray your eye sight problem was one of those come and go types of ailments. To be able to see is such a wonderful gift that we just accept till something goes amiss. Have a Happy Thanksgiving dear. I plan to spend dinner with one of my friends here.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

I really made a morning of it.  Stopped and had brunch out with a few friends, finished my errands and now back home and tired.  I'll try to have a nap--or if I don't sleep I'll rest.

You folks have been busy posting, and I've read everything--my fingers are too tired to reply to each who has posted.

Calllie--It's Finlay--no "d".

Shirley, thank you for the kind words.  People don't realize that Norm's grands and greats are the closest I can come to having my own grands and greats.  I am fortunate in that they all keep in contact with me and I am ready to help whenever I can.  Age limits my help now, but I did my share of baby-sitting.  I've been accused of having Tom's kids as favorites,  but I saw them more often. I love them all - and they love me back.

Tom, Terry, Dot and I went to the Boulder Creek Golf Course for lunch today and we all like to eat there.  Being that it is rainy, there weren't many people there and we do enjoy the quiet.  We go to sports bars occasionally and they are very noisy.  I think we will go to Boulder Creek more often this winter as they're open year round and it is near home, too.

I just discovered that Peppermint Cool Whip is a fabulous topping for the Chocolate Dessert! (I made a sampler when I made the big one).  I've put some in the Hidey Hole.
Help yourself.

Amy

Thank you everyone for your prayers, they are much appreciated. I think my hubby has more than enough to tackle lately.
Shirley, thank you for the heads up on this.I did read up on some of this but better to have a first hand account. Thank you for the hugs  :smitten:

Jackie, prayers going your way.

Jane....yum.....I cherry pie please.. and a cup of tea.

Oh my,  how am I ever going to be able to handle what's in the hidey hole.  I am like a kid in a candy factory.  Which do you choose first. :-\

Amy in the past couple of years it is unreal what has gone wrong, and I am not about to list them here, just be sure they seemed to find something different every time they do a test and no part of the body feels left out.

But strangely it doesn't bother me mentally, okay some would argue I have had mental problems for years, but I do know how June feels.  The good Lord is a close personal friend, as he is with everyone, and I know he will take care of me and has a place for me.  That old saying: "this world isn't my home, I am just passing through" is so very true.  I have already spent 83 years here, much longer than many and shorter than some so I have no gripe and actually very little pain, except when I smile......old joke.  But I do have very little pain, just when I walk and also I give out pretty fast.
But I managed to stand in line at the church supper the other night and finish off the meal.....hehehehehe.

I have rambled enough, Amy please let us know how DH fared.

If I don't get back here later on

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone

Denver

A good Wednesday to EVERYFRIEND!

It has been a crazy day here as I prepare the few items I am responsible for taking to our Thanksgiving dinner.  We made a quick trip to COSTCO.  The parking lot was a mss with cas, but once we were inside, surprisingly it was not bad at all and the check out was rather quick.

GLORIA, we almost cancelled our trip to meet Eugene and Nadia.  It was snowing like crazy here and sticking....after checking the weather cams etc., the decision was made to go ahead and do it.  Thanful that we did as the roads were fine and the sun was even shinning when we arrived.  We took them to a very nice buffet.....we were together for over 3 hours, eating and chatting.  Our server was very kind and understood the reason for our meet and did not mind at all that we sat there so long.  Ofcourse Bob gave him a BIG tip....

We heard all about what they have been doing since arriving in the States, including visits to Pat Halbach in Guelph and Adrienne in San Francisco.  Sadly, Nadia is getting divorced from Nick, so the wedding pictures are no longer needed to be posted, Gloria.  😪

JACKIE, I apologize, I must have missed you telling about your procedure tomorrow.  Please know you are and will be in my thoughts and prayers.

AMY, as others have stated, your dear DH sure has been through so much.  Continued thoughts and prayers for him as well.  I hope this problem will be taken care of at last.

JOAN, I joined the rest in being thankful that Joe and Family arrived safe and sound back in Fairhope.

We have to go get our rec center cards renewed, so best go now.

Wishing you all a very HAPPY THANKSGIVING tomorrow.  For those of you that will be alone, know that you are all being thought about by your, loved ones just as you will be by all of us.

Callie--Peppermint Cool Whip on chocolate dessert sounds delicious.  I'll get some from the hidey hole.  Thank you.

Amy--Your husband sure has had more than his share.  I pray for you both.

halkel--I think you do very well handling your medical maladies.

Jenny--It's nice you were able to get together with Eugene and Nadia.  That's too bad that Nadia and Nick are divorcing.  Joe and family will be having Thanksgiving Dinner at Linda and Ed's new home in Fairhope.

Thought I would stop by and read the posts. Got the celery stuffed with 5 different fillings. After going to the market yesterday and doing the celery today  I am worn out. My son called a git ago and said he will pick me up about 10. When I get home tomorrow I think I will just go to bed. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving everyone.

This has been an excellent day for me, and I am thankful way ahead of Thanksgiving Day. I am so pleased to read of all your doings in preparation for tomorrow. I of course will have an early turkey dinner with my friend here at Rowntree, then home to just enjoy the peace of the day, in Thankfulness.

Went to my Gary's Bible study today. He is doing the book of Daniel, and I was surprised to hear him say that he felt the seventh chapter of the book of Daniel was the most important page of all. Tomorrow I will re-read it to be more familiar with the words. In the Episcopal Church we dealt more with the book of Common Prayer than the Bible itself. Gary's Church is strictly Bible oriented,so he is teaching his mother lessons that she never knew.

Bis, I am praying that our Joe is doing well in spite of his awful experience with that blood clot, and I am praying the Lord is doing the necessary healing, every minute of the day and night.

This afternoon I saw my doctor and had a good conversation. She gave me permission to take the bandage off and let my leg get the needed oxygen I feel it needs. It has been wrapped up for 22 days. So I have been happily airing it out since then, and will leave it till tomorrow. She said that living in this facility requires a bandage when leaving my apartment, as they are very conscious of any germs spread in the air itself. So I will cover it before going out. After my visit with her, I came home, took off the bandage, lay back in my recliner and had a three hour nap !! Got up fixed some supper, and now here. God is SO good.

Gloria, thank you so much for the lovely card.

Janie, you have every right to feel tired. You work very hard during the day. I hope tomorrow will be a day of rest for you.

Jenny, I am so glad you saw Gene and Nadia. I am sorry her marriage did not take, but both she and her father can be comfort to one another. They were such a beautiful family before, and I hope they can continue to be.

I don't think I will be going to an early bed tonight after that long nap this afternoon, but I do have some paper work to take care of. Gary got my new DNR and I have given one to my doctor, and I have posted one by my door in plain sight of paramedics, and the Dr. said it would be wise to carry one in my purse as well. So I will.

Have a good rest tonight, especially all of you who have been so busy preparing for the Feasts tomorrow. Gary said they were all gathering at my oldest Grandsons home tomorrow, and I was invited too, but I declined. It is going to be a BIG crowd..too much for me. I will rejoice with my Rowntree family and peace will reign at home. Have a good night my dear ones. God bless you greatly, with good health and happiness. I love you. June

I am very late getting in here today. Got a lot accomplished, even with some rest periods between my chores.   Made a coconut cake, baked the frozen Pumpkin Pie that I had gotten from Schwans,  chopped up some veggies for a dish I am roasting tomorrow, and will put together a crab dip in the morning. In between, I went though a pile of e-mails and checked some other boards that I am into after being away from the computer for a few days.

I am thankful that my computer problem was a quick fix.  Still charged me for an hour  service call, even tho it  took less than  30 min. for the fix.  I am also thankful that it was able to be fixed without taking it into the shop.

It sounds like most everyone has been busy cooking and cleaning and getting ready for the big Turkey Day feast.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving Day.

Joan, happy to read that your son and family had a safe trip back home.  I am sure you were glad when you got that call letting you know.

Jane, you sure deserve a nice day tomorrow after having to work in the  morning.  Sounds like you were really busy collecting all those leaves, along with the baking and cleaning up.    I don't miss that chore, now that I live in an apartment.  No snow shoveling either.

June, I am glad that you had a nice day and was able to attend your son's Bible class and that your leg is healing nicely.  I didn't get my nap in today, so I hope I hope I will be able to sleep better.

Good Thursday morning, Everyfriend,  on this Thanksgiving Day. There's pumpkin muffins, just out of the oven, to accompany your coffee or tea. I wish everyone a good day!!

Thanks to Phyllis for her lovely “Thanksgiving” graphic creation which we are using today.

CHUCKLES

Josh: Why did the farmer run a steamroller over his potato field on Thanksgiving Day?
Phil: Why?
Josh: He wanted to raise mashed potatoes.

Biff: Why did the turkey cross the road?
Bob: I don’t know.
Biff: It was Thanksgiving Day, and he wanted people to think he was a chicken!

A lady was picking through the frozen turkeys at the grocery store for Thanksgiving Day, but couldn’t find one big enough for her family. She asked a stock boy, “Do these turkeys get any bigger?”
“No, ma’am. They’re dead.”

Luke: What did the turkey say to the computer?
Will: What?
Luke: “Google, google, google.”

Food For Thought

Let Us Give Thanks

Of all of the qualities of Thanksgiving, the power to draw people together is among its most sustaining. Whether strangers sharing a meal or scattered relatives gathering together, spiritually minded and secular Americans alike have come to rely upon Thanksgiving and its lasting message of peace and togetherness. No longer a holiday set aside for the prosperous, it has instead been transformed into a celebration of community.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  And a special good morning to you Joanie and to you also Lloyd.

JUNE, when you said last night that the Episcopal Church is based more on the BCP than the Bible I was a bit confused.  Every one of our services has a reading from the Old Testament and on from the New Testament and is followed by one from the Gospels.  And the Rector's sermon is always based on one of those readings.  That's a very large chunk of time devoted to the Bible.  I always come out of church on Sunday or any other day of the church year with those readings and the Rector's enlargement on them fresh in my mind.  We also have a group that meets once a week on an evening for more Bible study.  I think we are as Bible based as any church and more than some.  I've always enjoyed that part of the sevice and I think I always will.

Have a lovely day, Everyfriend.  May God bless your day with Thanksgivings!

JUNE, (and anyone else who is interested) this part of the service is sometimes referred to as "The Mass of the Catechumans".  In Early times, the catechumans, or learning converts would be dismissed after this part of the service.  It has ALWAYS been a learning part and we all learn from it.  I'm sorry if I sound "preachy" but I didn't want anyone to think that we Episcopalians are not "Bible based".  We are!

A good Thanksgiving morning to you, Joan, Lloyd and Jane, and all  the friends who follow.  Thank you, Joan, especially, for all you do to make this such a special place to come to every day.   I don't give you those special "thank you's" often enough.  Seniors and Friends are my favorite place to visit each day.  I don't always write anything, but I enjoy reading everyone's messages each day.

Hope everyone will  have a wonderful Thanksgiving day with family and friends.

I am going to my oldest son's for dinner.  He loves to cook and usually goes over-board.  So. hopefully,  there will be some left-overs for me to bring home this evening.  It will be nice to be with some of my DIL's family and a few friends,  who I don't get to see very often.  It is always nice to be with them and catch up on their family news.

Have an enjoyable day and remember all the wonderful blessings that we have had this past year.  Even with some "bumps in the road", hopefully,  the blessings have outnumbered them.

Enjoy your day.

Hi everyone and Happy Thanksgiving for those of us celebrating God's generosity and safe keeping today.  We have an overcast morning but it is a bit warmer than the past few days.  We are looking forward to a nice day with Scott as we celebrate and of course there is football to watch this afternoon.  We will eat sometime between two and three this afternoon.  Last evening we had a nice time with Scott as he had dinner with us and we visited.

Yesterday as I went to pick up the groceries we had ordered online at Walmart I stopped at our Belk's Department store to get a new watch battery as I had bought the watch at Belks.  I was advised they do not change watch batteries only sell the watches and adjust the bands.  The store, which is like a Macy's, was so stuffed with merchandise and there were so many people shopping that I determined not to set foot back in the store until after Christmas.  One of the things I am thankful for this year is Internet online shopping.

Jackie, thinking of you today as you have your procedure.  Also Amy, hope the treatment for your husband goes well today.

Gloria, you must have gone shopping on one of the busiest days of the year in the grocery store.  Glad you enjoyed getting out and are now stocked up.  I am glad you have finally found a doctor who cares about you.  Happy to read that you are going to be with family today.

Shirley, too bad the medical staff hadn't advised Cas about what to expect after the procedure.  I am surprised that the use of the defibrillator didn't use a lot of battery power.  I feel fortunate in never having experienced the shock with mine and have had one for close to 10 years now. These monitoring stations just report what is recorded in the devices.  The pacemaker/defib are very complex and very expensive pieces of equipment. I appreciate your detailed explanations as they are helpful to me.   I don't think I have ever had stuffed celery with a meat filling.  We usually use pimento cheese spread as the filling. Sorry to read that your brother is in the hospital.  That is not a fun place to be anytime and especially during a holiday.

June, I have never found a worry to solve any problem so I just don't bother anymore.  I will deal with whatever comes along at the time.

Hal, we got a bag of cranberries yesterday but they won't be fixed until after Thanksgiving as Pat is the only one who really likes them.  I'll have my cranberries as juice, which I do every morning.  I expect the baked chicken will become our new favorite meat for Thanksgiving.  Our son liked the idea also.  You were motivated in the church supper line with all of that food awaiting your selection and then eating it.

JaneS, I never thought of Christmas shopping at the hardware store but can see why that is not a bad idea.

Joy, your posting reminded me that I want to express Thanksgiving today to Joan and Phyllis and to all of the folks who post in these discussions.  I am also very thankful to Pat Scott Halbach for keeping this site available to us.  You all contribute to the blessings I feel everyday and I am so thankful for you all.

JoanFL

Good morning, Larry.  It's great that since the time you moved you and Pat are able to spend so much time with Scott.  It seems stores don't replace batteries these days.  I had a similar experience at Walmart.  I do 95%  of my Christmas shopping online since I just don't have the energy to traverse the stores.  It's my pleasure to do the Nest each day, and I give thanks for each and every participant.
