Amy

Good morning everyone..

:hb3: Jenny and June :hb2: may you both be blessed with many more.

Weather dogs told me is is misting rain out there this morning....much better than snow as long as it doesn't freeze  I don't like spinning around like a button on an outhouse door when I walk on ice! We did get our pails of sand yesterday and a jug of ice melt for the walk way.

We are heading to the city to finish up the last of the Christmas shopping, I need to get this done and wrapped.

My quilts came back from the long arm and she did an awesome job of quilting them for me..now to get the binding on them. One is for hubby for Christmas ,going to have to get that one done without him seeing me!!

Joan, thank you for breakfast.

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good morning, Amy.  I never heard the saying "spinning around like a button on an outhouse door" and it made me chuckle.  I'm going out this morning--just to do errands.  Great that you're so pleased with the quilting job that lady did for you.

Janie--Good morning.

Good morning, Joan and all the other early morning friends.

Joan, biscuits and gravy will taste good on this foggy, misty morning in Central Maryland.  Supposed to turn into a good rain for us, which we need.  Wish I could send you some !

Happy Birthday to June and Jenny.  I hope both of you have a wonderful day,

I am still having fun with my Kindle.  Learning new things.  Still hard to believe that all my saved books and pictures just automatically transferred over to the new one,.  I also had a message this morning, where Alexa is set up, which gives me access to "somebody" who I can ask a question and a voice will answer me.  Haven't fooled around with that yet.

Nothing special going on in my neck of the woods today. Just some normal everyday chores.  Joan, not really work. LOL  I had to move some things out of the way for the TV man yesterday, so that all has to be straightened up and put back where it was.  And, I probably will run the little duster around a bit.

Hope everyone will have a great day.

Good morning everyone, more rain for today but now it is foggy. Had over an inch of rain yesterday and last night it got windy.

JOAN  last time I went to a DD it was before they had the breakfast sandwiches. Just do not get around much anymore.

HAL  so many places need rain this year. Even here it was a dry summer and last winter we did not have much snow either.
I would gladly send this rain to the dry areas and those with fires. Then the farmers here would be angry with me because they need it too.

LARRY  so far my #2 son has been doing my banking. He is on my account so it works good.  I have an iPhone but really have not used it for much of anything yet. I really should get more use of it and then I would drop my landline. I think in a group of people there are always  some who do not follow the rules.

JOY  have a good time with your new Kindle. I will get to see my youngest great grandson at Christmas. He is about 18 months old now.

JUNE  today is laundry day for my CNA and I will have 2 loads. Wednesday is a slow day in the laundry room so she should have no problems. If she can only use one washer the dark clothes can be done on Friday. We have a card for the washers/ dryers. There is a machine we put the card in and then a bill in to add time to the card. Hope they can check your leg there so you do not have to go somewhere else. I have several appointments coming up and I am not happy about going to them.

CALLIE  it has been years since I had Christmas with both my sons. They have their own families they like to spend the day with.

SANDY  hope you get things fixed today.

BEVERLY  they sure do not make it easy traveling out of the country anymore. My oldest son and DIL go on a cruise every winter and head to the Caribbean but since their base is the ship till they get back to Florida I never heard them say anything about customs.

JOAN  I will skip your breakfast this morning. This Yankee has never had a taste for biscuits and sausage gravy. Thank you for today's goodies.

AMY  hope any snow you get does not turn to ice, especially black ice.

LLOYD  as long as it snows where needed, like up in the mountains and not where we live, it will be fine.

Hi everyone on another overcast morning.  We did have some nice rain yesterday afternoon and evening and more is predicted for this evening.  I did really enjoy our adult luncheon at church.  The program was outstanding and was highlighted by several piano duets by our very talented choir director/organist/pianist and her sister.  The choir members present also sang several Christmas type selections as well as a piece from "The Sound of Music".  We topped all of that off with a good meal of a pasta dish, salad, bread and dessert.  I did go to Office Depot but struck out as the price had actually gone up than it was originally before the sale price.  Also there machine to put spiral bindings on things was out of order.  So I came home and had a nice nap and quiet afternoon.

I plan on being home all day today until time to go to the church this evening for our Wednesday night dinner.  I am hopeful that Scott will come out in advance and we can go together so he can do the driving.

Joy, we have the same situation with our four great grandchildren who live in upstate New York.  It is not likely we will ever see them again in person and have never seen the youngest in person.  Fortunately we do get pictures and information on what they are doing from their father, which we really appreciate, as we can see them as they are constantly growing.  Glad to see you got your Kindle.  Go through the settings and you will likely find the way to fix it to be the way you want it to be.

June, sure hope you had a better night last night.  Enjoy your luncheon with Gary and Dori today.

Callie, years ago I just created my Christmas list as mailing labels and printed them out as label.  I would go through it each year to make any changes needed.  I haven't sent card through the mail now for several years but have resorted to a short Christmas message via email.

Sandy, hope you get things straightened out today with the cable company.  We are all human so don't beat yourself up over a small matter.

Happy Birthday to both June and Jenny.  I hope both of you have special days surrounded by at least some of your loved ones.

Amy, having lived on a farm and in a community that had to rely on outhouses I could relate to your comments about the pinning button on an outhouse door as did experience that on occasion.  I bet your husband will make good use of that quilt.  My wife made me one years ago as well as quilts for other family members and a couple of good friends.

Mary Ann

Happy Birthday to both June and Jenny.  May you both have many many more years.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I typed a quick message before I went to get dressed and I must have hit the wrong button because it's no where to be seen.  However...

Lloyd, thank you for the reminder about the recipe.  I did forget but I'll try to get it to you today sometime after I get home from work.  There was someone else who expressed an interest in having it but I've forgotten who it was.  Maybe I'll just post it over in the "What's For Dinner" folder and let you know it's there.  Would that work?

I'm off to work at 10 today.  I don't really like the 10 to 2 shift because it makes meals at odd times.  I think I'm going to take a sandwich with me today.

Have a good day, Everyfriend!

Larry--Good morning.  Glad you enjoyed last night's program at church and hope you and Scott enjoy your evening tonight.

Good morning, Mary Ann.

Janie--I wish you smiles today at EM.

Good Morning Everyone!

Important stuff first.......

Happy Birthday June and Jenny.  I hope you get everything you wanted and it is truly a special day for both of you.

It is a sunshinny day here, a bit nippy but will warm up and weather guessers tell us we are in for BIG changes this coming Friday.  A big low is headed in from the Pacific that is going to bring rain.  But we have heard this before just to be disappointed.

Joanie, had to disagree with your chuckles, a bible would have been a better choice, it also has plans in it on how to build an excellent boat....

Got to get busy and balance my checkbook.

JoanFL

Good morning, halkel.  Weather guessers here say after it going up to 85° today, a cold front will move in.  Hope your checkbook balances.

Gloria,  where I live we have the same type of card for the washers and dryers.   And, a machine down on the 3rd floor laundry room where we can add money to the card,,  just like you mentioned.

There is a laundry room on each floor and mine apartment is right across the hall from it.  So, I don't have to sit there and wait.  I always take my kitchen timer with me and set the time for the washer to be done.  And, I can come back to my apartment.  I usually find if I go later in the day, I will have the laundry room all to my self.  Most everyone does theirs in the morning.  There are 2 washers,,,,a top loader and a front loader.  I always thought the front loaders didn't hold as much as the top loader ones, but I have found that I can get a good bit in it.  I usually just use the top loader and wash a load of lighter weight things first and when they are done I will do the heavier things.  The washer runs for 30 min. and the dryer runs for 60 min.  I have found that the first load of lightwear clothes dry in about 30 min, which I take out and put the second load of the heavier things in.  If I insert the card again, I can add extra minutes for 25 Cents for 10 min. I will add either 10 or 20 min. more and that will finish drying the second load.  So, I can get 2 loads of wash done with one dryer load, with the extra minutes.  This works well for me.  I have not had any problems with the second load not getting dry.  These machines are heavy duty ones  and I think they dry better than your normal household ones. One of the older residents was the one who told me about being able to add the extra money for extra time.  Before we got the card, we could just add an extra quarter for the extra time we wanted.  It sure is nice with the card, as we don't have to worry about having enough quarters.  It costs $1.25 each for the washer and dryer.  So for about $4.00 - $4.25 I can get my laundry done every few weeks.  I don't wash every week.  One of the residents told me that she had a lot of underwear and when she was running out, she knew it was time to do the laundry. LOL  So, I kind of follow the same idea.

Probably nobody else is interested in how we do our laundry, but this was a little FYI to you.

Good Morning,

June  :hb3:  Jenny

Larry,  you have the most interesting events at your church.  At mine, the activities for the "older bunch" have been replaced with ones for the younger group.  I wish those had been "added to" instead.

I got the labels made and even managed to put a cardinal on each one that almost matches the one on my cards.  However, when I printed out a sample to try on one envelope, I didn't like the way it looked.
May have to do some revising.
I send e-cards to friends with whom I keep in touch - but still mail ones to friends I only correspond with at Christmas because I like to include more family news than can be put on an e-card.

Gloria,  the 8 members of my immediate family have always spent part of the afternoon/evening of Christmas Day together but it's always been at my house.  I don't mind doing things ahead of time but  was kinda dreading the "day of..." preparations this year because of the "squeaks and creaks" I've developed.   So I was delighted when son/dil suggested we come to their house.
I'm rethinking the late Christmas Eve pick-up, though.  I think it would be better for me to go with #2 son/dil on Christmas Day.   Love that #1 son thinks I'm still spry enough to do late-night sleep-overs but it's time he rethinks that sort of thing.

Hal, we're supposed to have A Big Front moving in Friday night.  The Bedlam Bash (OU vs. OKState) is at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.  Hope it isn't like the year the weather was so bad that the stadium seats were covered with ice.  That's still referred to as "The Ice Bowl".

Gee. thanks for reminding me that, in addition to all the fun Christmas stuff, it's time for checkbooks and bills and such.  <sigh>

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

halkel

Callie I just checked my credit card.  I may have to apply for a government loan and it is still three weeks until Christmas. :D

THANK YOU !!!!

Lest I miss someones wonderful Birthday Greetings, may I just give Thanks to all my dear good friends here in our Soda Shoppe for your kind and lovely Greetings. They are so very appreciated. I am so thankful for being a part of this family.

Larry, I had a very bad night. I forgot to take my night time meds. That is a first for me. I guess my 92 years are proving that we do lose somethings as we age…like memory.

Hal, every day is a special day, isn't it ? This one will be especially special as Dori and Gary are coming to have lunch with me. And with the schedules they have, this is a gift in itself.

I had my daily visit to the clinic for a leg check, and more medications on order. Next is the 10 o'clock Bible study, followed by a trek back to my apartment to await Gary and Dori. I know what will happen this afternoon…more naps.

For all of my cohorts that have to use a communal laundry…it can be a big nuisance, but it can bring back memories of our own machines, always available, and clotheslines to hang out our belongings. Remember hiding the underwear in between the sheets and outer clothes ? Now people wear less in bathing suits that we did in underwear, and they do it in public. Oh, well, my Grandmother would be shocked by the length of our dresses now.

Have a great day everyone, I intend to do the same. Big Hugs…June
As long as we are here, let's dance.

JoanFL

halkel--If you do like I do you don't have to worry about the checkbook balancing.  I just plain eliminated that task.

Joy--I do like having my own washer and dryer, but realize that's seldom an option in an apartment complex.

Callie--Sorry your labels are causing you some dismay.  IMO, you should decide where and when you come and go for Christmas.

June--You'd better devise a method to make sure you take your medications.  Enjoy Gary and Dori's visit to make your birthday special.

Oh Joan,  not having my own washer and dryer is probably the thing I miss the most from when I lived in my condo.  The second most missed thing is my balcony.  It sat back into  the building instead of jutting out. I could go out there and sit with my coffee in the morning and nobody could see me.  There is an area out front where there is a sitting area, but that means I have to get dressed, get on the elevator to get out there.   There are some other things I miss. I  have been here 9 years now, and that is so hard to believe.  It sure isn't the same as having your own place. I really loved my condo and  the people who lived there. All in the past, now.

Callie, I did want to mention something about making the individual address labels.  It seems to me that there was directions included with the package of Avery labels that told you how to do that.  I know I made some with individual names and addresses. But, like Joan, I have forgotten how to do it,

Joy--I would truly miss having a washer and dryer.  A few months ago, just out of curiosity, I looked at an Independent Living complex.  There was only a community laundry facility.  I inquired about having one in an apartment and was told that just to reconfigure the place for a washer/dryer would cost me $5,000.   Then you must provide your own machines to fill the space.  The rent there was $5,000 a month--so I quickly knew I couldn't afford that place.

Joy,   I did find Avery directions as well as Microsoft Word.  When I did it the first time, I used the wrong format.
This one is okay;  I just don't like the placement on the labels.  That won't require any re-typing and won't take long.
I  already have a Christmas return address label document from previous years and enough pages to print out both.
Before printing, I always print a test page on plain paper and then hold it up to the light behind the label page to see if they fit. Then I print just the first page to double check.
Actually,  I enjoy doing this sort of thing so it isn't a "chore" for me.

Joan,  I've never been fussy about sharing Christmas with the in-laws and, of course, dil who is hostess this year was a busy Middle School teacher until she retired last May.  She was excited when son mentioned it to her. Bit of drama going on in the other dil's family right now - but I suspect we will begin a rotation between the two homes.  I'll enjoy contributing things I can do ahead of time.
All is well.

I recently discovered the nicest feature on the LG dryer I got earlier in the year.  It's called "Freshen" and spins items on your choice of heat for about 20 minutes (kinda feels like it begins with slightly moist air - but I'm not sure about that) to take out wrinkles and.....well, "freshen up" the item.
I've just put all of the Christmas tablecloths and towels through the cycle and won't have to iron a thing.

Now it's "recliner radish" time.  CUL8R
