Oldiesmann: Relevant links can be found in topics in the Homemaking, Food & Garden board. I'll see about moving them over to articles here when I get a chance.

Oldiesmann: I'm not finding anything related to recipes on the site. I'll do some digging through the Internet Archive and see if I can dig them up. It's possible that got lost in the big server crash back in 2016

Bis, they take ultra care of us here. I just had a knock on the door and it was a nurse, just checking in. Our Quaker Chaplain and his wife called a bit earlier, to visit, and that was a treat, then he said a prayer for me...lovely !!!!!! Believe me Bis, they give care here, both for the outside person and the inner person. I feel so very fortunate.

My daughter sent me the following that was posted on Facebook by someone she knows.  I thought it might be pertinent to share it with my friends.  I found it to be a good thought to live with right now.

"Between the time I went to bed last night I have both cried and been sick to my stomach. But today I am up, I am at work, and I will spend time today with some beautiful people working on things that are Good. We are still Americans. Despite what has passed in this incomprehensible election, we still must get up each day and as John Wesley said: "Do all the good we can, by all the means we can, in all the ways we can, in all the places we can, at all the times we can, for all the people we can, as long as ever we can.” God Bless and Protect the United States of America."

I don't think it matters how you voted or what you think of either of the candidates, this is what we must do now.  Especially, we must ask God to Bless and Protect our country.

Amen to that, Jane!  Good thoughts.

I am once again ready for bed so I sill retire. Oops, a knock on the door, a nurse is here to take my blood pressure. Whoopee !!!!!!! I usually run in the 160 area, and recently it went below a hundred, and that worried me. tonight it was 120, so I will say another prayer in Thanksgiving and sleep like a baby. God is so good. And I pray you all too will be relieved of your concerns and ailments, and have a peaceful sleep. I love you. You are all a special gift of God. HUGS. June

CHUCKLES

Driven to Distraction

I was driving to the office one morning, when I got a phone call from my boss. "You've been promoted" he said, and I was so surprised that I swerved.

A few minutes later, I got another call. "You've been given a raise." I was so excited that I swerved again.

Later I got a third call. "You've been made CEO." And I swerved again and ran into a tree.

As I was waiting there, I saw a policeman. "what happened?" he asked. "I careered off the road."

Gloria

Good morning everyone, was worn out when I got home yesterday. I went to bed even before the new was over at 7pm. It is now 3:30am. Wow the new doctor does not let the grass grow under her feet. Not long after I got home I got a call from the MRI place checking on my medical insurance. She had already called them. Also have referral to a pain specialist. No
“I will look into it” and then never doing anything. After years of doctors doing nothing I sure hope I do get the help I need. Glad I have a different medical plan, too. This one has already given me a lifeline and will get a new rollator. I bought the one I have and the brakes no longer work on it.  That is frightening at times. The ramp at the new doctor's building is not steep but long. I was worried about going down it when I left but did OK without brakes.  There will me no more sitting on the porch  unless one sits on the benches. They brought the wicker rockers and cushions in yesterday. Porch looks bare without them.

JOY  it was cloudy all day here but rain held off till late afternoon.

MARY ANN  I was happy with the outcome of the election but did not stay up to watch. I really did not like either one but sure did not trust Hillary at all.

PHYLLIS  I wish there was a place here like where June is living but it would be more than I could afford.

LARRY  all we can do now is pray that Trump is a good man for us in the Whitehouse. It will be good to watch TV again without all the talk about either candidate. Way too much slader from both of them instead of getting down to what really mattered.

SHIRLEY  that link was meant for all the Republicans yesterday. Oh course in this state, it had been democrats for many years now so many were not happy.

JEANNE LEE  I must be doing Ok with sodium because I never had a doctor say anything.

HAL  those who wrote our Constitution gave their all for this country.  Sure pray that Trump and the rest of the Republicans now read it and follow our Forefathers.

JACKIE  I hope with your next appointment they find a way to help you.

JOAN  we Americans do have a choice electing those who will rung the USA. Other countries do not have that.

JENNY  my thoughts are like yours about the sodium. First time I heard of someone getting the sodium IV was my FIL about 40 years ago. They had him on a salt free diet and that ended with him in the hospital for the IV. I will not have any scatter rugs in here, I know too many who have fallen because of them. What little I watched of the news last evening I was disgusted to see so many crying because their candidate lost. One day we might have a woman president but sure hope she will be honest and trustworthy.

JANE  I hope the nap yesterday restored your energy level.

JUNE  for the first time I have a woman doctor and she is already doing something. Most of the time I will be seeing her NP-nurse practitioner. Met her yesterday, too. Both very nice and caring ladies.

AMY  been years since I went to a Chinese buffet. I sure like the way they fix shrimp and many other things, too.

HAL  oh yes, you will protect Amy's homemade cookies by hiding them for yourself. We know what you would do with them, fill your tummy with every one. As for those hot flashes â€" Suffer with them! You will not get sympathy from the ladies here.

AMY  love oatmeal cookies. A couple of those and a glass of cold milk-yummy.

JUNE  I am so happy that you moved to Rowntree, the care you get there and being close to Gary and Dori makes your life much better.

JANE  wonderful post your daughter sent you. If only everyone would read that and pay attention to it we would all benefit from the wisdom.

JOAN  Ahh now breakfast this morning is just what I need, cinnamon swirl anything will hit the spot. Chuckles-guess it does not pay to get good news when you are driving. I just copied Gardening God's Way. I will be sending that one on along with Thought of the Day. Thank you for all today's goodies. Think I will go see if I can find some ZZZ's on the couch.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  The voting is over and now it's time for the gloating to end also.  We're Americans and we need to do what we always do after an election...get behind our President and act like Americans...not Democrats or Republicans.  If we need to do that, we have a political forum.

Good morning!  Well said, Jane!  I have made it a very long practice of NEVER discussing politics or religion with anyone.  However, I will say only this.  This wonderful country is strong, its people (all races and beliefs) are strong, and we have survived all kinds of presidents, and leaders, for more than 240 years.  We will continue to survive, love our country, and be strong.

June, it is such a relief to your family, and that family includes us here, to have you living in a good place that shows care and concern for every one there.  I'm so happy for you to have that kind of loving concern.

Gloria, my Rollator brakes have failed, too.  I have learned to be very careful when going up or down on uneven ground.

Jennie, I wish you could convince the "lady of the house" that it would be so much safer if all the throw rugs are removed.  I know how concerning it is to you.  If only she would just try it!  I think she would very quickly get used to the bare floors and it would be so much safer for your Dad....and for her and any visitors, too. Perhaps she will understand the good sense of it soon.

You'd better watch out, Hal!  The cookie monster  will get you if you swipe all of those oatmeal cookies in the hidey hole.

Amy, it sounds as though your husband is making a good recovery from his surgery and I'm pleased for you both.

Good morning, Joan.  The cinnamon swirl coffee cake is just perfect for me this morning. Thanks for getting up so early and baking it for us.   :smitten:

Good MOrning Everyone!

I feel so un-loved and not trusted.  That you cant trust me with oatmeal cookies, guess I might as well get rid of this bottle of milk...... :D

I have bible study and breakfast with my men's group this morning.  Kinda anxious to see what they have to say about events of this week.

Gloria, happy that you are getting a new walker.  In the meantime if you feel the old one getting away from you, turn it loose and let it roll by itself and you just stand there, don't try running after it.
I hope the pain doctor can help you.  Sometimes they do work miracles and sometimes not.  Mine ask me if I would take some narcotics (opiates) and I said so long as I don't sit around and drool like I have seen some do with them.  Anyhow, I think I told you I am scheduled for some shots in the back in December to see if they will help.  They put you out for those so no pain in getting them.  It will get my Daughter (the RN) and my doctor off my back (no pun intended).

It is a little chilly this morning, but will warm up later.  Stayed on the cool side all day yesterday.  Rained lightly most of the morning and then stayed very cloudy and dark all afternoon.

Short story.  We had a road most used as a short cut to a major road that they closed for most of the last six months or so.  We all thought, great they are going to fix the low water crossing that floods when it rains heavily.  They finally opened it back up a couple of weeks ago and we were all puzzled at the configuration of their work and lo and behold yesterday they had barricades back up stopping us from using it.  My SIL and I couldn't figure it out, so I posted an inquiry in our neighborhood news email.  Well, all that time closed and construction was for:  TADAH.........a bike underpass for a new bike trail.  And government and money is like oil and water.  They just don't mix. Everyone

Everyone have a great day.

JaneS

Phyllis, you are so right about our country and our people being strong.  Thank you for the added incentive to continue our liberties and our strengths and to be the people we've always been.

Phyllis--Good morning.  I have made it a practice not to discuss those subjects, too.  Yes, I got up early to bake for my special SS friends.:)

Good morning, halkel.  Ha--guess you had to just drink milk because Amy didn't yet bake the cookies.  That story about the road sounds like something they'd do around here.

Janie--Spot on.

I have a problem....

A very Good Morning to all. Had a good nights sleep with no one waking me for a B.P. check. And made myself half a cup of instant Folgers this morning. I did so well with the six cups of allowed water yesterday, I am learning how I can use it to my advantage now. The hospital said I could have 8 cups, but my Nurse here at Rowntree saked me to try for six cups. Less water, less loss of sodium.

Bis, the author of Gardening God's way, has a good command of the use of the English language. That was very enjoyable. Thanks.

Phyllis, Yes,my family can live their own lives and I have the freedom to live mine, in a loving place. It is such a blessing. Believe me, I appreciate it to the utmost. I never dreamed there could be a place like this, run by truly caring, Godly people.

Gloria, I am rejoicing that you have a likable Dr. now. I always wanted a male doctor, but have a woman now, and I really like her. She is a friend as well as a doctor.  I am shocked that your rollator has no brakes. That is a real hazard. As suggested, if it runs away, don't follow it…it is not worth a bad fall.

Hal, don't be sad, we all love you, and I will share half of my cookies with you…..and not even charge you for them.

Sandy, I am so very happy for you in the recovery you have had from your stroke. You sound so happy too,and I know your family rejoices.  Keep going girl.

Time for me to eat some breakfast, I will share my quota of liquid by eating only the necessary amount on my cereal………

Thank you so much June.. I am very lucky to have been a victim of strokes,  but did manage to retain most of my faculties!

What I miss the most of course is what I lost and that was my vision in one eye,  and half my vision in the other.    But I can still see looking forward.    And for that I am very blessed.

Like you,  I do pay attention to my doctors orders,  as no one knows better then they
do what is best for me.

I am glad that you are in a home that
appears to be taking very good care of
you,   and that you also follow the directions of your care givers.

You are doing an awesome job June..
Bless you.

Amy--Thanks for all those goodies.  I'll get something from the hidey hole for my dessert after lunch.

June--You're doing good with your fluid intake.  They certainly take good care of you at Rowntree.

Sandy--I know loss of eyesight is not easy.  My mother couldn't see at all as her macular degeneration progressed.  And now my sister has it--no sight in one eye and fuzzy in the other.

Hi everyone.  The sun is shining brightly with a clear sky this morning.  It is currently about 48 degrees here and will only get up to about 70 degrees this afternoon. I plan on going to coffee this morning and making a stop at the Credit Union either before or after.  Our minister couldn't be at the church this morning so will not be attending the Wisdom group as I normally do on Thursdays.  We had an enjoyable evening with Scott.  He came out an hour or so before we needed to go to dinner so had a little extra time with him.

I had too many little chores to do this morning so just going to check in for today and write no individual comments.  Hope it is a nice day for you all.
