Hopeful that we will have change, HAL.

So happy to read that JUNE is home and getting better.  Sure look forward to her post.

Good to see your post, JANE.  I do hope you continue to feel better.

JACKIE, so happy you were able to go and enjoy the meal and meeting.  Do hope Toby made it through the night with our more upset.

I need to get to bed, but I am trying to watch the election results.

Sorry to read about your finger, SHIRLEY.  Hope it is much better soon.

Pleasant dreams to all.

My dear, dear, dear, wonderful Soda Shoppe habitues. I am especially pleased to see my beloved Dori popping in and keeping you informed about my medical status.

To clear things up, I was dismissed from the hospital, with the diagnosis of hyponatremia. Meaning that there was too little sodium in my body. The same thing occurred earlier this year, so I was fed sodium into my system with by IV. This time they decided to try salt pills themselves, and to cut my intake of water. The lack of sodium can be fatal if not treated, and miserable when it does fight back.

I am home with the wonderful kind people that care for us here.I did a foolish thing though. On Tuesday when I came home I decided to wash the Hospital out of my hair, and of my skin. Which I did. Then in getting out of the shower I fell half way in the shower and half way out. I must have fainted as I do not recall falling at all. Just came too l laying soaking wet on the floor. My life alert automatically sent a message to the clinic downstarirs, and two Angel nurses arrived, raised me up dried me off and I put on a nice clean night gown, and sat down in my recliner when one nurse stayed to bandage up a couple of bleeding spots on my right leg.I went to bed and slept like the dead. Today has been a healing. I started a message to you all three different times, and someone would be here for one reason or another, and by the time I got back my message had flown the coop.

How I love you all, and how I missed you. I was mostly concerned about our Janies absence, so seeing her post tonight was another healing. Each and every one of you are so dear to me. Jackie I am so sorry that your doggy finally had to let go, and let God. Been there and suffered that with several of our pets. My Petey was the one that really broke my heart. He loved me as your boy loved you. And it sounds like our Hal has one great pup too.

Larry, how long did your sodium problem take to clear up ? I am limited to just 8 cups of water a day. The Nurse here said she would like to see me keep it down to six cups. Elimination of said liquids takes too much salt with it. So we are experimenting.

I did, finally get my ballot filled out and taken down to our polling place here at our Rouwntree gardens. Had my cart with a seat so relaxed in line. Later I went down to the clinic for a bandage change..my Angels are so kind and understanding, so loving, I would like to adopt them all as my children. And these young people work happily for minimum wage. The world is not all crazy and selfish and greedy like most of our politicians.

I had a big lunch delivered to my door, so had the other half of my baked potato stuffed with Chili and all other good stuff, plus carrots, and apricot halves. I didn't even miss my coffee. I have no plans for tomorrow. I'm going to just drift along and be thankful to be a part of the whole big picture. Life is grand and reading all your messages...yes I read every single one of them, and loved it.

Now my eyelids are getting heavy, So I will go brush my teeth, wash my face, and cuddle down in my nice comfortable bed. See you tomorrow dear hearts, I love you all so much, and so does God. Rejoice in our Blessings. :smitten:

As long as we are here, let's dance.

Shirley

SO happy to see your post, June... been so worried because I know nothing about the cause of your condition.  Since I remember "back in the day" when people used to take salt pills.... did they tell you what to do or not do as far as using & eating salt?  Since Cas was on the low sodium diet he had to take iodine pills so I wondered (in here) if having too much salt without the iodine could be part of the problem.  I doubt if Marie Callender's  TV dinners have the type salt with iodine.... same with the fast food places & the canned soup & V8 that I have in my frig.....

I guess we all worry that if it can happen to you, it can happen to us.  I know I eat a lot of the same foods you talk about eating.  Anyway, glad they got you fixed up and wish they had given you a better idea of what, how & why it happened.  So sorry about the fall, hope all your boo-boos are healing.  We sure missed you and agree with your opinion of sweet Dori.  She truly is a jewel, thank her for letting Joan know so she could bring the news to us.

Thanks, Jenny, the finger is better.  I just soaked again & not nearly as yucky looking. What is the latest about your father?  My youngest son called tonight & was talking about "we'd better get our reservations in for the trip to CO soon".  I'm surprised how much he enjoys going.  Hope you & Bob can come visit us one day while we are out there, I expect we'll go in June again.  Too hot  in July & August & the boys both have other things they do .... and those campgrounds close in early Sept. That commercial one is nice but not like being in the woods & waking up with a couple dozen deer strolling through the campsite.

I appreciate the sympathy for my beat up finger, Joan... wish I knew what I did, kind of looks like a little hole in the fingernail by the swelled up part of the skin.  I think I'll live.   ;)   I'm not going to stay up for the final tally.  Right now I can sleep with the way it is going.  God Bless All..... Shirley

CHUCKLES

Someone Else

Our church was saddened to learn this week of the death of one of our most valued members, Someone Else. Someone's passing creates a vacancy that will be difficult to fill. Else has been with us for many years and for every one of those years, Someone did far more than a normal person's share of the work.

Whenever there was a job to do, a class to teach, or a meeting to attend, one name was on everyone's list, "Let Someone Else do it." Whenever leadership was mentioned, this wonderful person was looked to for inspiration as well as results; "Someone Else can work with that group."

It was common knowledge that Someone Else was among the most liberal givers in our church. Whenever there was a financial need, everyone just assumed Someone Else would make up the difference.

Someone Else was a wonderful person; sometimes appearing superhuman. Were the truth known, everybody expected too much of Someone Else. Now Someone Else is gone! We wonder what we are going to do.

Someone Else left a wonderful example to follow, but who is going to follow it? Who is going to do the things Someone Else did?

When you are asked to help in your local church this year, remember -- they can't depend on Someone Else anymore. Many hands make little work!

Prayer: Father let me be someone you can count on and not someone else. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!

Food For Thought

Life Hackers

(By Michael Newnham)

I'm writing this today from a back up computer as I appear to have killed my iMac.

I was up half the night trying to reverse the damage I inflicted, but thus far my efforts have been in vain.

The old war horse was showing some age, so I decided to upgrade it to the newest version of the Mac operating system so I could extend its life and take advantage of some new features.

The problem was that it had been designated as too old to do so by Apple.

No problem, said the hackers, we can do it anyway. Just follow these semi easy steps and it'll be like new.

I followed the steps and it's now unusable.

It's dead and I killed it because I wanted it to be something that it's not.

It was functional and able before, it's neither now...all because I tried to make it something it isn't made to be.

The more I thought about my foolishness, the more I believe this is more than a cautionary tale about hacking your computer.

Some of you are being tinkered with and being pressed into being someone you weren't created to be.

The hackers in your life are the culture, your peers, or maybe someone closer.

Some of you are angry all the time.

Some of you are stressed all the time.

Some of you are in fear all the time.

Some of you are being abused by someone who is trying to break you.

The world, the flesh, and the devil, are conspiring to hack us all into being someone other than we were created to be.

You're showing the signs of a break down...

Before you become unable to function at all, it's time to tell the hackers to step back.

You were created to walk through this world with the joy of the Lord and the peace of his Spirit.

You were created to know His love, trust His provision, and rejoice in His goodness.

That's who you were created to be and how you were made to operate safely and well.

Some of you need to wrest your self from the hands of the hackers and let the Creator restore you to default settings.

You need to do so before the damage is great and the cost excessive.

I'll meet you there when I get this computer fixed...if I can fix it at all.

Make your own application...

Good morning to all, I'm going back to bed.  Tom decided to sleep in my bed last night, I knew that was a mistake but didn't have the energy to carry him back to the family room so he could join LaurenKat and Tiger in the basement.  It is cold out so I will probably stay half awake until he shows up back at the door wanting in.

So we have a new president-elect.  I did not expect him to pull it off but am glad it is over. I think I have problems in my little world,  I sure don't envy him the job ahead.

JoanFL

Good morning, Shirley.  I am glad it is over, too.

Gooooooood Morning America. Hooray the voting is over and the best candidate did win. Now to find out how the town I live in voted.

JOAN  your housekeepers were mixed up on days because of the voting? My CNA had an appointment Monday so had no help but she was here yesterday for an hour and will be back as normal this morning. Hope it is Jane's computer acting up and that she is OK.

CALLIE  for a change here it was a nice sunny day to vote.

JACKIE  glad you went to the meeting and every thing went good. Hope Toby will be fine today.

JOAN  thanks for sharing Sori's latest message. I pray that June is feeling much better and will post soon.

JANE  good seeing your post. Now to get rid of the “pink” feeling and feel like your energetic self again. You do know how much you are missed when we do not see you.

SHIRLEY  hope the Epsom Salts works it's healing on that finger.

HAL  we got our votes counted.

JUNE  please be careful, no more falling/fainting.

Still nothing on TV about local election outcome, only the bigger cities, not smaller towns. Looks like I will have to go onlne to find out.

JOAN  a scone will be great with my coffee. Love the Someone Else, that is too true. Food for Thought, different way of comparing a computer being hacked and out lives being hacked.  Thank you for all today's goodies.

SHIRLEY  I think we are all happy the voting is over and now we can pray the new President can do as he said he would.

JANE  hope you have a good day at WM.

AMY  good morning.

HAL  looks like you will not have to move to Canada.

Have an appointment with a new doctor this afternoon. Sure hope this one will listen to me.

Good morning,  Joan and all the early friends.  It is a pretty bleak looking day beginning outside.  Supposed to have some rain and then get colder over the week end.  Yesterday was a perfect "spring" day.  It was just beautiful.

A scone will be good this morning.  Something different with my tea and fruit this morning.

Joan, I think maybe a nap is in for both of us later today. I stayed up until after 3 a.m. also,  watching the returns.  I had set the timer on my tv,  just in case that I fell asleep, but I did manage to stay awake.  And, I was awake again at 7 a.m.

Hal, I did just message a friend asking her when all the mass exits to Canada would begin.  LOL

I just hope that we can all get back to a normal-type of life now and let all the people who matter get our country straightened out.  I think we have to have a positive feeling for our nation's future.

Glad to know that June is on the mend.

Hope everyone will have a good day.

I am off to my hospital appointment...lets go, and face the music....

It was so good to hear from June and know she's home.  No more falls, June.  At our ages we have to be more careful than those younger than we are.

I really did not care who won the election and I stayed up until 11 pm to see how things went.  I only wished we had better candidates.

I went to bed at my regular hour and slept very well.  It is a gray day here and I have to go get my haircut this afternoon and they are predicting rain.  Oh, well, I won't melt and we need it.

Glad June and Jane are back but sorry that Jane is not feeling up to par and that June had a fall.  So glad that someone was there to help her right away.

Make it a good day, everyfriend.

Hi everyone.  It is another overcast morning and now 55 degrees.  We should get to 73 in the middle of the afternoon.  The schedule is light today with only the Wednesday night dinner at the church and then getting to spend the rest of the evening with Scott.  After Pat's chiropractic appointment late yesterday afternoon we went on to Pizza Hut and had our evening meal.

It was a long night and I stayed with it until about 1:30 pm and then turned off the TV.  When Pat came to bed she told me that Trump had won and the Congress stayed in the hands of the Republicans.  I just hope and pray he will be a good President.

Gloria, I have a feeling that everyone is happy this Presidential season is over and that things are not in doubt as we have known in the past.

Jackie, sorry that Toby's sick spell has increased your anxiety.  I hope he is ok today.  Glad you got to attend your meeting.

JaneS, I sure hope today finds you feeling much better.  You can see you were missed.

Shirley, those garage doors can be very frustrating.  We already had to have one of the two openers we have replaced.  Fortunately, the door are not heavy so can be raised or lowered without difficulty if the opener stops working.

June, good to see your posting but a bit alarming that you had the fall.  Thank goodness for the alert system you have.  The sodium problem I had was taken care of by IV's for about 24 hours.  I had experienced the almost total loss of appetite and felt very tired and it was affecting my mind.  My cardiologist has asked me to reduce my fluid intake to between 32 and 64 ounces a day as that creates less stress on my heart and should also not flush out as much sodium.  I will get another reading on it later this month when I see my Internist and have blood tests.  However, I will certainly recognize the symptoms as I always have a good appetite.  One of the caridologists I had when I was last in the hospital told me I needed to eat more salt, which he said he seldom told anyone.  However, I don't consciously do that as have never acquired a taste for salt.

Amy, what is a camp quilt?

Thank you all for your postings.  Now I need to get busy and thaw out some fruit and make my frozen fruit cups.  I also want to make some coleslaw that will go with the baby-back ribs that we cooked a couple of days ago so Pat will have a good supper.

Lloyd Hammond

Good Morning everyone! well we got the lessor of two evils. at least he mostly used his Owen money.

Okay, just got to post this link & let everyone join what my friend started this morning.  Can't get it out of my head..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13wd8KvOt58     I was surprised & hadn't thought of the tune for years so did a Google..... Smiles for all

Hal, sincere sympathy for that shot in the tummy, know it is to make you better but can't help wonder why that pick that spot to put a needle in.

Larry, I always feel you know/research issues so just curious if you didn't have to take iodine pills.  Cas did measure his liquids & if coffee or anything, he would use the container to pour equal amount of water into a large bottle so he didn't have to guess the amount every day.  Interesting the difference in doctors & treatments across the US & I always feel better knowing I can come in here to ask anything & get answers.

Jeanne Lee

So, it's Trump.  I fully expect the next weeks and months to be anything but boring.

One of my emergency trips to the hospital was because of dangerously low sodium levels.  The previous trip there had resulted in a prescription for a diuretic and it was decided that was washing the sodium out.  So that prescription was canceled.  Since then, without any particular attention to my diet, the levels have stayed within what is considered "safe".

Denver

Good morning.

Today we all move forward without any more of the awful campaign commercials. For that I am very thankful.

JACKIE, it appears you are still in the wait mode, but at least you have the cystoscopey scheduled.

HAL, I, too, share thoughts and prayers for you as you go through your treatments.

Yesterday we went out to one of the local casinos, and dad did very well.  He was happy to be getting out and about and I think it was good for him.  All the talk about the issues with seniors regarding low sodium, etc. is concerning.  If it is that common, they why aren't the docs making us more aware of?

JUNE, I am sorry to hear about your fall...thank God your medical angels are there to get you help right away.  Once again, I am so thankful that you did not hurt yourself any worse than you did.  HUGS to you my dear friend.

My big concern here in this house is all the room and runner rugs.  I have expressed this issue with dad and Diane....dad wants them gone, but Diane doesn't and in addition to that she does not seem interested at all in removing them!  VERY CONCERNING!  Diane has terrible balance issues and falls a LOT, so she surely should be able to understand how dangerous the rugs are.  I have balance issues and the unevenness with the rugs is a big problem for me.

JOAN, I do not think I would want to be out and about this morning knowing that many if not all are expressing their feelings about the election results.  It has been pretty brutal on Face Book!

I am the outsider here and have just kept my trap shut......but the lady of the house has not and she is very vocal.  Love the goodies today and thank you very much.

Enjoy your day, EVERYFRIEND.

Tisie, dear friend, thank you so much for you caring, and thank you for your kind remarks about my Dori..she is one of a kind for sure. She not only does Christian speaking engagements  across the U.S., she councils unwed pregnant girls, and teaches in her Church. And loves me !
I don't know what caused my body to start losing sodium, I have always loved and used iodized salt in my cooking and on the table, but we all eventually develop something, and this was my turn for something. I am content.

Janie, it is SO good to be reading your posts again. I missed you so. At 7:30 this morning I wakened to a light tapping on my door, so I called "come in", and one of the nurses from downstairs was just "checking" on me, and said she wanted me to be sure to come down today to have my leg checked out. They worry about infections so catch them before they take over. I slept like the dead last night, and feel so refreshed today. Thanks be to our God !!

Amy, believe me girl, I am cautious as never before. I am under a rule from the clinic. I do NOT take a shower till I call them as they want someone sitting outside while I do my ablutions.Better safe that sorry, I guess.

Hal, I feel your joy in the results that gave us Trump as a new President. I was proud of Hilary's message this morning. She was gracious in her speech, when she must have been hurting inside. But she has had a lot of practice in deceit. I pray for Trump to give us back what we had. Does getting an injection into your stomach painful ? I hope not.Believe me dear friend. if I could avoid falls I would . In this case I was seated on my shower stool, and woke up on the floor, Had no control, so I assume no blame.

My Gloria…I too hope you have found the proper doctor. Just be frankly honest and let him/her know right away what you just said, about hoping he will be a Listener.  To let this person KNOW your needs, listens and acts. Prayers for you dear.

Mary Ann, I too feel that we needed a more dignified person in the oval office, so I just chose the one I disliked the less, and cast my ballot. Believe me girl, I'm doing my best to keep well, my new mantra is "You are 92 years of age, act like it."

Phyllis, thanks my friend. I know I am an old lady that needs care, in spite of the person inside that still wants to dance.

Larry, your ailment sure echos mine. I am allowed 8 cups (I prefer using my home-makers measurement, rather than the Liters), but my Nurse is hoping I will lower  that to 6 cups so I am trying to do so. So far, pretty well.

Jenny girl…..thank you ! I felt that warm hug !! Glad your Dad had a good time. That is good medicine.

As long as we are here, let's dance.

Amy

Oh dear, my cookies didn't get done.....maybe tomorrow. Hubby wanted to go to the city, we met up with daughter in love and had a Chinese buffet. I went to a quilt shop to see if they had the green I needed for an Irish Chain quilt and they did!!!

Larry, these are quilts for kids with cancer that get to go to camp. Twice a year the camp is held and we give them quilts for the kids.

Jane, I am with you on the tuckered bit......I had thought of cutting some fabric but I need my wits about me.....and well...they are already napping :)

June, yes the shots are a little painful, but the pain is only for a short duration while he is giving me the shot and then it is over and done with for three more months. But the part my wife likes is that they cause me to have "hot flashes" like you ladies have.  She says now you know what we go through. June, I was just rattling your chain about falling, I know you didn't do it on purpose (did you?).  Just be sure to always sit when you are in the shower.

Janie, it is concerning that you seemed to be dragging here lately, maybe you need to pay visit to your doctor and have a chat with him.  You normally have such a high energy level and always on the go.

Amy, don't listen to Joanie, you need to get those cookies made and in the hidey hole.   I will protect them there......snicker, snicker.....
