Good Morning everyone. well I am up for a nature call changed the water, set a couple of the clocks , ready to go back to bed put my mask on and re set it. I moved wrong and created a air leak while ago, hope to do better rest of the night, have a great day, everyone.

Amy

Good morning everyone..

Yesterday did not go as planned.Dogs got a reprieve from having a bath and I didn't get any sewing done. My vertigo decided that I was going to hold the bed down and that is what I did. Thank goodness it is gone this morning as I have to take hubby into  the hospital for a procedure he is having at 11.00.

Misty rain out  and temp is 44° so not a bad day after all. Didn't put a fire on as we won't be needing one, maybe when we get back home later this afternoon.

Hal, I just can not imagine why anyone would do that.Prayers for those that are going through this difficult time.

Enjoy your day everyone.

JaneS

Good morning Everyfriend.  Unfortunately the dogs (me too) are still on standard time so we have been up early.  Today I opted to wait out their morning pill on the sofa and they both snuggled up with me.  Now I have a few things to get done before my sister and BIL arrive later this morning... including getting dressed and ready for the day's activities.

I hope you all have as nice a day as I'm going to have.  I love it when my sister visits.

Amy, I have those "vertigo" things too sometimes.  The Dr thinks they are caused by stress.  Confidentially, I agree with her.

I better get started on the chores or I wont ever get finished,  Enjoy!

Gloria

Good morning everyone, showers in the forecast today and warmer than normal. Yesteday was a dark cloudy day, what a start to these short days long nights.

CALLIE  your dentist sounds like something mine would do.

JOY  many here say the same thing about that witch. She does not understand the elderly or does not like them. She may be book smart but has so common sense. This is not a happy place to live. No problems with that extraction except the not eating much till it heals.

SHIRLEY  like you I miss the Hallmark channel, always good things there. The clock that needs setting is battery operated and only had 1 battery change in the years I have had it. Not a digital one either.  I hoped I did not offend anyone with that joke. Don't believe you are a slob, just your house is too big for you to keep perfect.

JOAN  I have a grandson whose company sends him overseas a few times a year. With the crazy world we live in today we all pray he will be safe and return to us.

HAL  I saw about that shooting on TV yesterday. So sad when people are not safe is a church anymore.

JANE  when those dogs of yours really let you know when they think you are neglecting them. Love it.

AMY  when I got up this morning a bit of vertigo hit me. I sat on the edge of the bed till it went away.

Hi Everyone.  We awoke to a very dense fog this morning but it is to burn off by 10 am this morning so it won't be a problem by the time we head to the eye surgeon later this morning.  Scott and Jennifer left New York about 4 pm yesterday and Jennifer drove all night until she had to pull over and now Scott is driving.  She had driven 14.5 hours and they were in Charlotte when she wrote and in the rush hour traffic.  So they should be home by mid-morning and will get the rental car turned back in.  I will be very glad to get the message they are safely home. Pat just talked to Scott and they were just leaving Columbia and he said the traffic was heavy there and they have had a lot of fog on the entire trip.  They were able to see all four of the children and he said it turned out to be a good afternoon.

Gloria, our daughter starting in her late teens refused to see a dentist until her teeth rotted out and she had to have dentures at a very young age.  I was not offended by your joke.

Joy, you are right about my grand daughter's family issues. It is nice your son and his wife have been able to travel and cruise a lot.  Pat did not make it to Church with me yesterday and probably a good thing as our Worship service ran 20 minutes over its regular time, something that almost never happens.  There was a Baptism and then a special service in recognition of All Saints Sunday. Our church lost quite a few members this past year.

Shirley, in assessing me after I am gone I do hope to be remembered as kind.  It is strange that your minister left our "loving".  Do your cats have a brand preference in their tuna.  I would say your cats are very fortunate to have you as their owner.

Joan, I bet Linda has difficulty remembering what cities she is working in since she travels so much.

June, hope you will not be as tired today.

Hal, the church shooting in a small town and in a small church is certainly disturbing.  Obviously this could be something that could happen in any of our churches.

Jane, I hope you have a wonderful day out today with your sister and BIL.

Amy, sure hope the vertigo doesn't continue today.  Pat has been having some problem with it as well but hasn't indicated she is having it today.  I sure hope not as she will have to drive home this afternoon.

halkel

Good Morning Everyone.

Amy sorry to hear you were under the weather yesterday.  And happy to hear you are feeling okay today.  If anyone should feel stress it's you.  You are on the go constantly.  Slow down and smell the roses.

Cloudy here this morning and a little cool, heater is on and running, I think.
Say think because I have the thing on heat/cool.  The crazy weather we are having.

Larry, hope you have good results with your eye surgery this morning.
I go back to eye doc tomorrow morning for a followup eye exam on the eye they worked on.  Mine turned out great. I am looking forward to getting the left eye done now. I talked to a friend at church, he is a commercial pilot, flys all over the world, and he is having trouble with cataracts and he is just young guy compared to us.  Problem with the surgery, so I heard years ago, it only last so long so they don't like to do it on young folks.

Not too much on tap here today, just normal stuff, I still need to finish my checkbook.

Everyone have a great day.l

Joy

Good morning. Not a very nice morning here.  Kind of chilly, dreary and misty.  It is supposed to start getting colder this week.  Sure has been a strange fall.  Hot one day and cold the next.

Good morning to all the early friends this morning........Gloria, Amy,  Jane and Lloyd.  And, also to all the friends who come in later.

As usual, I am slow moving this morning.  Not sure what I will get into today.  I do know that I have to empty my shredder so I can start filling it up again. I have a pile of junk mail to get rid of and another pile of catalogs to bundle up for the recycling bin.

Gloria, I am just so sorry that your place is not a very happy place to have to live anymore.  I remember when you first went there how you talked so much about sitting outside having a fun time  chatting.  I am sure it is not good for the whole moral of everyone.

Yes, it is just so sad and senseless about another shooting in Texas.  I just don't understand.  It bothers me when I hear some of the "higher ups" mention that  "this is not acceptable" or " we aren't going to tolerate this anymore" and yet,  these massacres still continue.   I, for one,  do not know any of the answers.  Just so, so sad.  All innocent victims.  And, now, if it isn't safe to go to church anymore...... where can you feel safe????  So many unanswered questions.

Ok, off my soapbox.

Jane, hope you have a nice day with your sister and BIL.   My aunt used to make the most delicious fruit cake.  And, she would start putting them together around this same time.  She used to make her own wine, and that is what she used to soak cheesecloth in to wrap around the finished cakes.  None of her family are around anymore, so I am sure her recipe is long gone.   I would not be making any myself,  but they sure were good.  She used to sell them and I remember going to her house and fruit cakes would be stacked up in boxes ready to go to whoever had ordered them.  I do remember her saying that a lot of people didn't like citron, so she would make up special orders without the citron.

I do like the small ones that a lot of organizations sell around this time.  And, I know I have gotten the Claxton  ones ( I think that is the name) at Walmart.

I need to get myself moving a little bit now.  I know I need to empty the dishwasher and clean up my breakfast dishes.

Have a great Monday.

Joy

Joy, many years ago, I used to make a fruitcake with a spice cake mix and citron.  I know there was more to it than that, but I haven't made it in years.  I made it to share with some of my co-workers and I don't recall ever getting an opinion about it!  But I liked it.  I soaked my cheesecloth in rum and I started about now to make them.

Until last year, I bought fruitcake from Collin Street in Texas.  I have no idea what everyone is doing for either Thanksgiving or Christmas this year and I'm not sure most of them liked the fruitcake.  They're expensive, but they're good - lots of pecans and fruits.  Last year I also bought cheese from Fiji.  All of their assortments seem to contains sausages of some kind and I don't care for them.  It was hard to find anything that did not include the sausages.  So I'm not going to get that this year, either.  Unless I change my mind about either - or both.

The appointment was early!! I guess someone missed theirs and we were there early so they took hubby in ahead of time. I hate being later, I would rather wait than have then wait on me!

Got home in good time and he is resting, had a bite to eat and went back to bed. Lil girl went with him, she is looking after him :)  The wood box is filled and kindling in so resting it is for me tonight.

Jane a few years back I had  nasty go with this ,didn't drive for two weeks. Walked like I was pie eyed too!  Went to emerg and they gave me some meds to slow down the dizziness but it didn't totally leave. Glad it was only one day this time.

Enjoy your evening everyone..

Had a good (but too short) visit with my sister and BIL.  They should be getting home about now.

About the fruit cake,....my mother used to say that if you didn't have it made and in the aging crock by the second week of November, you might as well not make it.  So I'm going to have it ready tomorrow.

Back when my church was having a Christmas Bazaar every year to raise money to pay for the new church building, my mother began by donating the first 14 lbs.  By the time the Bazaars stopped about 20 years later she was making upwards of 130 or mor lbs.  And all of it was ordered.  I don't remember my grandmother ever sitting down without a bowl of dates that she was cutting up.  And my sister and I lined pans with baking paper and then peeled the paper off the baked cakes.  They even drafted our friends to help.  It went out under the label "ST ANDREW'S FRUIT CAKE, MADE WITH GOD'S BLESSING BY CLAIRE WRIGHT AND FAMILY.  I make it now in her memory because I feel close to her when I do it.

AMY I'm glad your "dizzies" didn't hang around.  I've had them last anywhere from 5 minutes to 5 days but no long ones lately.

I'm going to say my Good night now since I'm very tired and I think I hear those zzzzs whispering my name.  I'm going to get my jammies on and I'm sure the zzzs will find me soon.  Good night my friends.  Sleep peacefully and may God bless us, every one.

Amy:  A cousin had dizzy spells and motion sickness and she now does a little exercise with her head and it has helped tremendously.  Could it be allergies?  I hope you find a cure.

We just finished a little exercise with my old iPod.  I have downloaded audio books on it from the library for years - suddenly, this model was out-of-date and we had to go through a search to find something that works - tweaking things a little.  It is all Overdrives fault - they changed and insist that a newer model iPod will work with their new software.  It took a long time but finally, we found bits and pieces to figure this out - I am now able to download audio books on an older iPod.  So far, so good.

Jane: Wow!  That is a lot of heavy baking.   I made mom's fruit cake recipe for years and gave little ones to friends who wanted them. Now, I just make hot fudge sauce and give everyone a pint and also refrigerator cookie dough that is ready to slice.  Friends who don't like to bake like the easy slice and bake gift.

Time to make dinner - it is leftover pizza so just heat and serve.  Easy Peasy.

I have had an unwelcome busy day. Mechanic working on my air conditioner which has been spewing out white stuff on my desk. He found the reason but wants to remove it tomorrow and take it outside and give it a good pressure wash. I'm thankful the outside air is pleasant.

I'm having a bread and butter sandwich for supper. Had a huge salad for lunch, so just plain bread and butter tastes good. I will top it off with an energy drink, and get off to an early bed time. I pray you are all feeling top notch by now. I love you much, and
God loves us even more.
Thank you God.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

holding it in place most of the night and trying to get it properly in place. I think I am tireder than I went to bed. between it and daylight time change I feel like i have been ran over with a semi truck. hope you all had a good night, see u later.

Good morning Everyfriend.

Lloyd, there's nothing worse than a machine that cant tell the truth.  I wonder what message it's sending to the VA.

Carol, I'll trade you a fruitcake for some of those slice and bake cookies or a jar of hot fudge sauce!  I never seem to get around to cookies any more.  My daughter brings me a small plate of some of my favorites and thats my Christmas cookies,

We're in "doggie pill wait" right now and will be having breakfast when the boinger goes.  I hope you all have a lovely day.  I'm hoping to get started for work early enough to swing by the polls on my way.

Good Morning Everyone!

Well Lloyd seems you and I both had a long night, or should I say morning.
I did my usual 2:30 wakeup and never really got back to sleep.  I think when I get home from my other doctors appointment I am going to send my PC an email and ask him some questions.  I have an appointment with him on the 15th.

Coffee is on and I am holding off getting into the bathroom to clean up cause don't want to wake the wife.  She is getting up at 7, so she says, to get an early start on some things she wants to take to her club meeting.  She has refreshments.

Amy is late this morning, she must also be sleeping in.  I think she hears to "crack" of dawn every morning.

Anyhow how check the news and kill another 30 mins and then start my day.

Gloria

Good morning everyone, sun shining today at last. According to the weather guesser by the end of the week it will feel like winter here.  That will be more normal.

My CNA called in sick yesterday  so I had no help. Of course I did too much and this morning it is hard to move. Think I am getting lazy with the 4 days of help I get?   In the city of Woonsocket last night a car was on a RRtrack and was rear ended by a train. 2 women jumped out in time before the train hit. Officials cannot figure how they got the car in that position. They must have been driving on the tracks and not just crossing. Of course they were drunk. Do you think they were having a bumpy ride ?

JOY  gone are the days I would wake up in the morning, get out of bed and start a busy day. Now I wake up and always dread getting out of bed and standing up. Even some of the new residents here are saying they are sorry they moved here. Sad.

LLOYD  had to chuckle with your post yesterday about your getting ahead at the man's remark about hearing Nancy.

AMY  like you I like being early, dislike having anyone waiting for me. Now if only others felt that way.

JOAN  I would really like to just stay home for a couple of weeks with no appointments.

Already phone is driving me bonkers. Too early for me,

Good Tuesday morning Everyfriend.  The remote on the TV won't work and the charger on this iPad somehow got unhooked, so not a good start for today.  There could be much worse things, I know, but I am lost without those two things.  I hope you all have a good day.

Hi Everyone.    It is another beautiful morning here and we will see about 80 degrees this afternoon with only a small chance of rain.

My eye surgery went very well yesterday.  There was no pain beyond the slight pain in my hand when they put in the IV needle, which didn't even leave a mark on my hand when removed.  I was asleep before getting into the surgical room and so no memories of that.  I came home and ate a sandwich and then took a nice nap.  With the cover over my eye I wasn't able to wear my glasses yesterday so couldn't see every well at all.  Today the cover is gone and I can see again.  The repaired eye has a way to go, which is apparently not unusual and my glasses may be distorting the vision in that eye.  I will go back this afternoon, as is always required to be checked, but can resume all of my normal activities today.

Hal, it looks like it will be a day or two before the eye clears although I think it is getting better by the hour as not having as much trouble reading here as I did earlier this morning.  I will get my left eye done on Dec. 4th and then will need to get new glasses.  I bet you will have to continue to drops.  My instructions say to use them until two bottles are used for each eye that is operated on.  Fortunately I just have one drop to use three times a day.

Joy, wish I could share some of our nice fall weather with you.  We do need rain however.  I haven't heard of a Claxton fruit cake in a long time.  Fruit cake is not a part of our family tradition.

Amy, I also want to get to appointments a few minutes ahead of time.  My wife is excellent at being ready to leave at the agreed upon time.  Hope your husband is feeling better today.

Mary Ann, it sounds like your mother almost had a factory going there with all of those fruit cakes.  They must have been delicious to build up such a demand.

June, I remember eating some bread and butter sandwiches as I was growing up and a little sugar on the butter didn't hurt anything either.  :)  Glad your son found the problem with your A/C but surprised the maintenance men at your facility didn't fix it.

Lloyd, sorry to hear you are having difficulty with your CPAP macine.  Pat got a new head gear last week and found it they had given her a medium not small head gear that she needs. However, she has been able to use it and has had a smiley face on the machine the last two nights.  I hope the motor home works out for you and always good to be able to save a few dollars when one can.

Gloria, it seems your CNA's leave you in a lurch quite often.  I hope you have some help today.  It sounds like those two ladies were very fortunate.  However, I expect they are in a lot of trouble as that could have caused a train wreck as well as taking their lives.

Joan, it sounds like the batteries in the remote need to be changed and you will be back in business when someone plugs your iPad cord back in.  Unless it is completely run down it will work while plugged in, as I expect you know.  The last few times I have had to be in the hospital I always make sure I have a long extension cord so I can plug my electronics in as needed.  I hope the rest of your day will be good.

Mary Ann

Larry, I think it was JaneS whose mother made the fruitcakes, not my mother.  I don't even remember having fruitcake while my mother was alive.  We also had bread, butter and sugar sandwiches when we were growing up.  And mustard sandwiches.  Depression meals.

Larry and Hal, I'm glad your surgeries went OK.

Joan, I hope your equipment is working OK now.  I know how frustrating it is when you depend on something and it doesn't work.

I had my hair cut this morning and after that Tom and I had breakfast at the restaurant next to the hair salon.  We do this every five weeks when I have my hair cut.

We're talking Thanksgiving Day preparations.  We will go to Tom's son's for the meal  We will furnish the turkey and green bean casserole.  Tom's son is the father of the twin girls.  I want to have a picture taken of all of us for a Christmas card.  Including me, there would be four generations (I'd represent Norm).

The sun is shining on my computer screen, making it hard to see, so I'd better close up shop for the time being.

Mary Ann

Carol

Jane:  Trading for fruitcake sounds great!

Larry:  Glad your eye surgery is going well.  Best wishes to Pat on getting her machine to fit and work too.

A  girl is here putting in a new modem.  She had to install it in a new spot or otherwise it would be in the bedroom.  Don found a better monthly fee for the internet so he set up this appointment.  I have to get ready for a genealogy class. Wishing I had never ever thought of this a few years ago - getting nowhere.  I need to put time into quilting.  If only someone would be a housekeeper for me - now, that is a dream isn't it?

Lovely day outdoors here - I wish the same for everyone.

Shirley

I had not thought of bread & butter sandwiches ... with the sugar!... for years.  What great memories, Larry & Mary Ann.  We sure did share a lot of similar days & meals.  No matter what we ate, it was served with love, right?

I am anxious for this "pre-winter" prep to be over.  Having trouble getting the pool taken care of because I didn't get the job of repainting done in the spring & neglected maintenance during the summer so now has some black algae on the bottom that must be taken care of before cleaning, draining & putting to bed for winter.  We gave up covering years ago so I generally dip out the majority of leaves that gather during the winter & hope it doesn't freeze too thick or will need major patching in the spring.  Such a pain, but if I want the river & cats, gotta put up with it.  Then it is also time to drain water from the RV, blow out the lines (including hot water heater), and that is a big job.  Worry-worry-worry.....  One good thing, if you don't look at the bottom of the pool, the water looks nice & sparkling.   ;)  Everyone I know that has a pool handles the winterizing different.  The cost of having it taken out is more than maintaining, plus all that concrete surrounding the pool would be extremely hot during the summer, so it would have to be taken out. No good solution, so I'll whine & handle it another year~ :tissue:

I am impressed with the cataract removal & how your doctors do it..... still scares me to pieces.  Best wishes to you "boys" that in a few days you can see that chigger blink, like my Dad said.

Better get that Hoover running again, decided it was time to clean up those Bougainvillea blossoms, still blooming but has a whole pile of what looks like tiny parchment paper lanterns on the floor around it.  Nearly noon so may think "lunch" before more work.

Joan, how long has it been since you checked the demerit book???  That was a lifetime ago, wasn't it?

Gloria, the new AARP mag has a long article about picking nursing/retirement, assisted living places, got to admit, I've learned a lot from y'all telling about the good & bad, and thank each of you for telling about your days & experiences.

Carol, my brother did all the genealogy work in our family & a number of the clan has done the test, actually a niece's son was tested in FL & made a match with a nephew's daughter living in Ohio... & they didn't even recognize the names until their parents explained. My understanding is that siblings can actually have different readings because of inheriting more genes from one parent than the other.

JoanFL

Shirley--Thanks for mentioning the article in the AARP magazine.  My mail goes to my son's address.  He sorts and brings me the stuff I should/would want to see.  There's many good things here and some no good.  One BAD is cost - just over $9,000 a month.

I havven't checked the demerit book in a LONG time.

I am staying out of the way for the techie girl to do her job - installing a new modem and actually making an entire change in the computer area.

Feeling sleepy when it is quiet and I am awake before 5 AM daily - from years of work/children habit.  We are all abuzz about the bee problem in that they take over the hummingbird feeder.  Don hosed the feeder yesterday and no bees today.  We cannot have any feeder on the patio anymore or we will be driven out trying to sit outdoors.

Joan:  That amount sounds too large...but I haven't caught up with care prices either.

Shirley:  My mother's family (7 children) all looked different. I just found a lot of Finnish in my DNA besides the mainly Swedish.  Uff da
