Grandmother Approved

Even with a thousand games, dolls and crafts to choose from, my customer at the toy store still couldn’t find a thing for her grandson.

"Maybe a video or something educational?" I asked.

"No, that’s not it," she said.

We wandered the aisles until something caught her eye: a laser gun with flashing lights and 15 different high-pitched sounds.

"This is perfect," she said, beaming. "My daughter-in-law will hate it."

Good morning everyone...

Not very nice outside this morning ,rain and windy!

Nothing much other than working around the house today. Will have to go and get hubby's meds this morning.

Hal, good luck on your procedure  this morning.

Gloria de ,glad you are back home and your nephew there to help you.

Jane, I hope your hand is better  and the weight of decisions on your shoulders relieved some.

Mary Ann, the only way one could get at my eyes is to knock me out. I shudder just to think of anything that would have to be done to my eyes. No way would I be able to wear contact lenses if needed.

Gloria, wish you could come to the choclate factory, I swear I gain 10 lbs just breathing in all the delicious smells in there!

Lloyd, at least you won't be late for the appointment... :2funny:

Joan, it is so nice to see you back home here and I hope your I pad is working better.

Bubble, thank you for the new page and love the joke!!

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good Morning Everyone!

Well it is almost 6AM here, I have been up awhile.  Amy on the news last night they were talking about contact lens some are buying for Halloween that gives your eyes special effects.  They also are not FDA approved and can cause blindness.  Like you no way would I put something in my eyes that could cause harm.  The procedure I am having this morning is a necessity so I can see better.
I haven't stuck my nose out so don't know what they weather is like, I am sure it is cool to cold and dry.  Rain tomorrow they say, which they kids wont like.

Well guess I had beter get the coffee on and get in the bath and clean myself up
Everyone have a great day.

JaneS

Good morning Everyfriend!  We had rain and gloom all day yesterday and today it's COLD!  I fear winter has come to central PA!

I hope Everyfriend is feeling better today, stays safe traveling, gets rid of cramps, has successful surgery, has a good breakfast, gets all the dust bunnies, relaxes, dances, loves and is loved.  If I missed anyone's particular problem, consider it wished away!

Have a lovely day!

Amy, my first husband was so nervous about his cataract removal that they did have to put him "out" to do it.   ;)

Good Monday morning Everyfriend.  I ditto Janie's wishes for you ALL.  It is again chilly here, but they say no more rain until later this week. I was awake every couple hours last night and hope I can catch a nap this afternoon.

Good morning everyone. What a night here. Rained in buckets and very windy. Have not heard rain totals yet but the forecasters yesterday said we could get over 3 inches again here. Power went out just after I went to bed. after checking the power wasour over 3 hours. Not bad for a storm like this. A gust of 80mph was reported at a light house at the shore. A lot of schools are closed. Showed areas with big trees down across roads and wires down.

JOAN  sorry your iPad is not working right. My daughter depends on hers now and is thinking it is time for a new one.

GLORIA de  like you I would not be able to afford a place like June has. There is one place I see advertised on TV that looks wonderful but only for those with a big bank account. Sorry you were in the hospital. Glad your nephew was there to help you.

JUNE  in this area this place is the only one still only for seniors. Most now admit handicapped no matter the age and from what my cna's tell me when they go there they smell pot and they are noisy. Other places in the cities are high rises and I could never live on anything higher than the third floor I am on now.

BUBBLE  love your Halloween graphic. Granmother Approved made me LOL, love it. Will have to send that to my DIL. Thanks.

HAL  I still cringe when I see the eye doc put drops in my eyes. I never had anything special to do when I had my cataract surgeries. Not put to sleep or anything. Did not feel anything because somehow he numbed the eye. I just did not like the bright light he had to look into the eye to see what he was doing.

JEANNE LEE  I was nervous with the first cataract surgery but refused a "calming" pill. The attendant standing by my side and holing my hand and talking to me must have had a bruised hand when I let go of it. I was more nervous because I did not know what to expect but with the second one I was relaxed.

JOAN  nights are long when you cannot sleep.

JANE  along with the wind and rain it is in the 60's here. I am longing for the cooler temperatures.

AMY  not raining here right now but still windy. Gosh wish there was a chocolate factory here, I would love to gain 10 pounds.

Hi Everyone.  We have a beautiful and crisp fall day here in South Carolina.  According to the weather report on my weather app it was 31 degrees at 8 am but will get into the mid to high 60's by late afternoon.

Yesterday Pat's foot was so swollen she couldn't get her shoe on and her back was not feeling well so she passed on going to Sunday School and Church with us.  However, her sister and I attended and then went through the drive-thru at Wifesaver's and got great chicken dinners to bring home for our main meal of the day.  The only thing on my schedule for today is to see the foot doctor at 1:45 pm to have him check my toes.  I think they are doing well and appear to no longer be seeping.  I hope this will be the last time I need to be checked on this procedure.  We are awaiting word on how the court case our granddaughter went to New York to attend turns out.  If she wins custody of her daughter they may be delayed in leaving to come back home but if not they will head back right after court.  Fortunately they had all day yesterday to rest up after the 16 hour trip.  Our granddaughter drove the entire way as our son apparently has narcolepsy and falls asleep.  I expect she will also drive all the way back.

Shirley, your pot roast buy sounds like a good deal.  It sounds like you will have quite a party with that many birthdays to celebrate as well as the holidays.  We won't have much Christmas shopping to do this year as have already given our son his present with his new bed.  Pat will likely find something online to have sent to her sister and we will send money to our great grandchildren and our granddaughter.  Your gift card buying certainly saves you in gas for your motor home.  I am really looking forward to getting the eye surgery done even though the idea of someone working on my eyes isn't a pleasant thought.  I am ready to be able to see well again.  I think I will change our fire alarm batteries this week or next as Saturday we have revert back an hour.

Hal, my doctor said my surgery would take about 5 minutes plus the preparation and recovery time.  From what he said it sounds like I will get some Versed so will not remember the procedure or care.  Looking forward to your posting saying your procedure today went well.

Lloyd, it sounds like you are sleeping much better with your new CPAP equipment.

Mary Ann, I sure don't want to be awake during my eye surgery.  The drops I have only require one drop three times a day starting with the day before, which will be next Sunday.  I will have to wear glasses after the procedure due to the astigmatism.

Gloria, I hope you weren't among the million people who lost power last night.  Your apartment manager must be a very unhappy person in her life to make the residents so unhappy.  It sounds like she things she is a Tsar or king over her realm.

Jane, is your hand condition something new for you?  I hope you soon will have made your decision so you can get on with your life.

Joan, do hope your son can get your iPad to work quickly although it sounds like you may have solved the problem after seeing your next posting.

Jenny, glad things worked out well for you on your trip home in spite of the little goof.  I have never gone anywhere that I could use SW Airlines.  I do not handle unknowns like the ticket mix up.  I am sure your home looked good.  Do you use a wheelchair in the airport?  My SIL used one in the terminals on your trip here last week and was very glad she did as she is suffering with a sprained ankle and well as other health issues.  That made her flight here much more enjoyable especially since she hasn't liked to fly in the past. Those leg cramps sound terrible.

Amy, my wife is very familiar with the ripper although I haven't seen her use it recently. I felt as you do about someone working on my eyes until my vision began to be impacted by the cataracts.  Hearing of the good experience of others, including my wife, changed my mind.

Joan, I woke up in the middle of the night having small angina attacks that didn't last.  Finally after several of them I got up and took a nitro and in a few minutes they had stopped and I went on to have a good nights sleep and got up late this morning.  I do hope you can get a nap this afternoon.

Gloria, glad to see your power is back on and hopefully the worst is over for your area.

June, I hope the sun is shining out your way today as that always makes a day seem better even when we don't feel well.

Bubble, thanks for getting us started on another week and for your Halloween graphics.  I liked the joke as well.  The one of the ghosts with the pictures of folks here is as close to a Halloween costume as I am likely to get.

CallieOK

Merry Monday, Everyfriend,

Bubble,  your "ghost collage" is wonderful!

Re:  cataract surgery.    I was given something to make me drowsy but wasn't "out" - and remember seeing the colors like a kalidescope (sp?).   I think I've commented on being offered a big warm muffin and choice of coffee, hot tea or juice afterwards - while nurses were putting all sorts of drops in my eye.  Hospital told me my doctor was the only one who did this.
One of the things that made me decide to have the surgery was seeing a yellow cast over everything.  Between the surgeries,  I noticed that if I if I covered the now good eye, things still looked yellow and if I covered the still bad eye, everything looked clear.
I also continued wearing glasses because of astigmatism.

We had a hard freeze last Friday night and prediction is for 80º this weekend.  Just saw a Facebook "share" of a sign reading "Welcome To Oklahoma - Birthplace of the Blizzafloodquakeanado".   Yep - that's us!  ;D

Nothing new going on around my house.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

Joy

Good morning to all the friends.

I have not had a lot to talk about, so haven't posted here for a day or two.

Today is a pretty sunny day, but looks like it is pretty windy.  We did not get the hard rain and winds that had been predicted for yesterday. And, now, it looks like most of it went up the coast towards New England.  But, the temperature has dropped quite a bit and I did have to turn up the thermostat this morning for a little while.

It has been a very quiet week end here.  I did manage to get some laundry done on Sat. and my daughter-in-law got me a few things at the store yesterday.
So, I should be set with enough clean clothes and good food for a while.

Larry, I hope your grand daughter and your son will have a good outcome from their trip to New York.  Most of the young ones don't seem to mind long drives.
Just hope they have a safe trip back.  Sorry that Pat is having trouble with her foot and wasn't able to go to church with you and her sister.  Sounds like a good chicken dinner that you brought home.  " Wifesavers" is a cute name for a restaurant.  Have never heard of that name, so I am assuming it is a local place for your area.  Hope Pat is feeling better this morning.

Hal, good luck with your cataract surgery this morning.  Hope all the encouragement from the different ones who have gone through the same thing will help you have a good outcome.  Everyone that I have talked to that has had the surgery, usually remark about how "white" everything looks.

Joan,  always good to see your messages.  So glad you are feeling well enough to keep in touch with us now.   You sure were missed.

Jane,  hope you problems have improved and you will soon have all the important issues solved.

Gloria de,  sorry to hear about your hospital stay, but glad you are better and able to be back home.

Gloria,  things at your place are just about the same as here where I live.  Our activity gal was out sick for almost 6 months and all activities came to an abrupt halt.  A couple residents tried to organize a couple things, but that didn't work out too well.  Now, she is back and is trying to get more things started, but it just seems like hardly anyone is interested.  There are a couple groups who do play cards several days/nights a week.  I do play "Hand and Foot", but only 1 night a week.  And, I only play one game as I can't sit much longer than 2 hours at a time.  There are others who play Canasta and some still play dominoes.
But, as far as other activities,  very little participation.  And, we do have a nice lounge/ sitting area, but hardly anyone uses it except to play cards.  We did used to have a small group that sat out front during the nice weather.  They now congregate in the small lobby as you come in the door.  Most of the time, it is the same ones who sit and talk and "gossip".  I don't enjoy sitting down there, as it is not a big area.  And, of course,  they get to see who is coming and going in and out.

I see it is almost lunch time, and I have not been finished my breakfast long. I am just not a morning person, as it takes me so long to get my act together.  I did sleep better last night,, but had a hard time waking up.  I need to clean up my breakfast dishes and make the bed and get dressed.  Not sure what I will do after that.

If any of you like the Hallmark Channels, they have started their Christmas movies.  I know it seems a little early, but most of them are just nice stories and it sure beats all the grim news channels.  Tonight on the Hallmark Movie Channel, they are showing "The Christmas Card", at 9 p.m.  EST.  It is one of the best movies I have seen.  I have watched it several times and never tire of watching it. It is just one of those movies that give you that "feel good" feeling.  And, I think we can all use some of those nice feelings these days.

Bubble, your new Halloween graphic is really cute.  And, the little joke made me laugh, also.  Thanks for getting us started on a new week.

Hope everyone will have a great afternoon.

Joy

Love the collage Bubble!  I copied it to share with my kids

Larry, my hand thing is a finger that's being drawn toward my palm.  It started some tim ago and it's pretty bad now and also pretty painful  my father had the same thing back when i was young and had it surgically repaired  I see the dr on thursday and i suspect that's in my future too.

Larry, if your granddaughter wins custody of her daughter, will she be moving to Augusta to be with her mother?  Tom has a friend who is involved with a custody fight and it’s not pleasant.

I don’t recall being drowsy before or after my cataract surgery.  The day I had my first surgery, Norm had his second, so Dot had to drive us home.  Two or three weeks later, I had my second surgery and Norm was able to take me.  Our doctor gave us both Peace Lilies after the surgeries.  Mine lasted a few years, but are no more.  I don’t have an astigmatism, but I wanted to wear glasses anyway.  Dot does have an astigmatism so she also wears glasses.

While watching the Weather Channel from Boston, I thought of Jenny and Bob and was glad they are already home.  We’ve had rain, but nothing like the Northeast has had.

Callie, Saturday night we had 28 degrees but I guess that wasn’t a low enough temperature to be considered a hard freeze because my annuals in front of my place are still OK.  If it warms u p a little plus having the sun shine (and it is shining now), I want to transplant some myrtle to where the annuals are.

Joy, I find that after years of being a “morning” person, I am now starting to function later.  I may get up sometime in the morning, but I am not ready for breakfast early.  Tom often goes out for breakfast and brings back a muffin and coffee for me and sometimes he is too early.  I do try to eat it, however, because I want my coffee hot and I’d rather not have to nuke it.  I am not a nightowl, however.

Jane, I hope you can have your finger repaired so it will function normally.  I notice some ‘zs’ in your postings occasionally and I remember you mentioning the reason for them.  I can read the words regardless of the spelling.

Mary Ann

Bubble…Wow ! What a Wicked 'Wabbit' Witch you gave us for Halloween. It really woke me up ! Thank you dear.

Janie, Thank you for all the good wishes. I think you have covered them all for us, but I could use some more brain power if you have any tucked away somewhere. We are into our second cold and cloudy day in my area…we need rain, but none in sight.

Bis, my one minor dose of Lorazapam gives me a full nights sleep…one wake up for the bathroom, but I think I "sleep-walk" for that.

Gloria, where I live the "studio" apartments start out at $3,182, and the Deluxe Suite is $4,655. Three meals a day, weekly house-keeping, Linens (sheets and towels) are provided, and laundered weekly. On site clinic, open 24/12, call button provided, and must be worn constantly. What I consider, truly Loving care is available by all staff members, from the top echelon down to the plumber. I am more than content.

Bubble, Thank you for all the Senior Spooks. I had a great time with them. You are so talented and loving.

Janie, my father had that finger to palm problem too. He never did have it repaired. He got his during the depression when he worked for the WPA that (I think) Pres. Roosevelt started for people so they could eat. Yours is probably work related too, and if Walmart is worth their salt they should pay for your surgery.

I can't seem to come alive today, so I will just stay home and let life happen.  I am thankful.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

JaneS

Please give us all a little (or a lot) more brain power!  Thank you very much!

Well I am still kicking.  Got out of the surgical center about 12 noon.  We then went to IHop and had a big breakfast and got home about 1:30.  They did put me to sleep, although I was not aware of it.  Like some of you said I got enough drops in my eye to float a small boat.  One time the nurse put about 10 drops of different kinds and they washed it I don't know how many times.  Anyhow, no pain then or now.  I have to go back to doctor in morning for a follow up and then a week later for one more.  After they take the patch off I have to start putting drops in.  I did see the kaleidoscope of colors but only very briefly. They take the patch off in the morning.

Anyhow, glad it is over.  Jack, I think it is, said all the did was drape him with a cloth with a hole in it.  They had me wrapped like a cocoon  I could barely move and covered my whole face with a semi-sticky cloth and cut a hole in it over my eye.

Thanks for all of you for your well wishes.

Amy

The wind did knock out our power for about an hour. We hooked the generator up until it came back on again.

Jeanne Lee, I think they would have to do that to me also.

Jane, I too have some spare aaaaaaaaaaa's for you..  :)

Hal, glad everything worked out for you. NOW do as you are told, no lifting, no bending over , until the Dr says you can.

Enjoy your evening..

Mary Ann

Hal, I'm glad things went well for you.  I think I am the one who mentioned having the cloth with a hole in it put on my face.  I don't recall it being sticky.  I had a similar thing when I had a skin cancer removed from just below an eye a year ago.  We also went back the next morning, then again a week later.

Mary Ann

Shirley

Glad the day is over for you, Hal.... sorry if I am a real ninny about this surgery, but I truly am.  Hope all is well when the Dr takes the patch off tomorrow.... not at all like what Cas' was.  I saved the paperwork from the Dr that did Cas' so I don't make the mistake of going to him... !!!

Larry, prayers that "all works out for the best" for your "kids".  Sorry about Pat's foot.... does she think it's caused by food?  Cas had gout and could hardly stand the pain when it flared up.  Hope your toes are all healed & ready to dance.

Bubble, love your rabbit.... beautiful legs!  Now that joke is a hoot....  :2funny:

Mary Ann, I'm not a strong coffee lover but when I make a pot I make it strong enough to please anyone that stops by.... and I add water to mine & then have to nuke it because I like it hot-hot.  I don't like any flavors except plain old coffee & have a freezer shelf full of flavored kinds that were gifts.  Next time I defrost I plan to give it all to #1 son that likes it strong enough to walk.

Joy, the one channel I would love to have is the Hallmark..... but it was an "extra-extra" & I wasn't willing to pay that much when the last year we had it they didn't have one new movie.  I did tape some they made earlier years, my kind of shows.  My daughter gave me some DVDs for the RV that are basically the same type movies as Hallmark ones.  Had to watch one 3 or 4 times to finally see the ending... kept falling asleep.  So peaceful in the woods in MO... love having the electric hook ups, & with a gas oven plus microwave, & freezer separate of refrigerator, great way to chill out. The cats love it when we're "not rolling".  Would love to be camping with everyone in here that enjoys camping.... we'd have a ball.  Roll the years back....

Amy, I remember when my father told about a friend of his that did bend down & the lens slipped & he couldn't see at all... this was when they first started doing cataract surgery..... my sister said when she took Dad for the first appointment the doctor took time to explain exactly how it was done & the tools they used, Dad understood all the details & was at ease with the procedure.  Cas had a bad experience and bad doctor...

We still have the generator we bought when power was out for 8 days.... has not been touched since & hope it was stored right so if anyone needs it again they can use.  We could see lights on across the street & across the river, only 8 or 10 houses on this side without power.  Everyone tried to convince "those in charge" that we didn't have power but no one would listen until the son of one of the neighbors caught trucks leaving town & insisted we still didn't have power, took another day or so to get a new pole put in & lines up.  Cas had just gotten out of the hospital & home less than half an hour before power went out... so he couldn't help start the generator or anything.  #1 son put the generator as far away from the house as possible because of noise & fumes.... had to turn it off every 4 hours & could only run some of the appliances at a time.  Still shiver when thinking about those days.  We managed to keep the plumbing from freezing using the fireplace all the time & furnace as often as possible.  Good luck for the winter not being too severe.

Have had calls from my kids to will just shut up & stop for tonight.  Sweet dreams to all & God Bless.  Shirley

halkel

Callie, sorry I didn't pay you off on my debt. OU stomped TT.  So my here is my bet in full:   :-*

Shirley, the patch they have on my eye is like perforated metal, full of small holes and you can see through it, not well, but it gives me some idea of what I will see tomorrow after they take it off.  And i think I am going to love it. The vision.

Mary Ann, you sound like my wife fussing at me, I have be bend over th get offf the couch and she was fulling as me.

You know I don't remember seeing my doctor, I do the anesthesiologist.  He came in a talked to me for a min or two right after they wheeled me into the operating room, but they had my head taped down to prevent me from moving it so all I could see was the ceiling, when they put the cloth on my face I thought it was her, but it was just a nurse and she said the doctor would be right it and then the anesthesiologist came in and I felt him messing with the IV and then I remember little until I was being wheeled out into recovery.

I am off to bed, I am tired and hope I sleep, I took a nap on the couch in the den for a while and have a doctors apmt in the morning 8:40  but she always runs behind. grrrrrrr.

Janie, hope things are cool, calm and collected.

Nite, nite, God bless and Sweetdreams

Thank you, BUBBLE, for our new Soda Shoppe.  I, too, love the graphic you shared with is....beautiful bunny with some mighty cute pumpkins.

HAL, happy that everything went well for your surgery today.  I have never seen a patch as you have described.  I think that would be so much better than a solid one.

MARYANN, we are sure glad we left Boston when we did and avoided the terrible storm they have been  experienwceing.   It sure was bad and is continuing to be.

LARRY, I do use a wheelchair in the airport.  I would not be able to walk those long distances.  On Southwest I am also allowed to board the plane first and that sure is nice.  It helped to get settled and not have to rush to get out of the way of others.  I certainly hope and pray that the court case went well, and they can get back home safe and sound.

SHIRLEY, I waved at you as we flew over your area on Saturday!  I really had a nice view as it was clear.

I watch the Broncos loose to the Chiefs a bit ago....we are sure having a rough time.

Good Morning Everyone!

You wouldn't believe how great a night I had last night.  I slept the night through with just one wake up.  Thank you Lord.

I have an appointment with the eye doctor this morning, I think I may have already told you that, but I am anxious to see her and get the patch off and see how things really look. I am really optimistic, just hope I am not being too much so.

It feels really nice out, it is just a little cool here in the house, but there is suppose to be a "mild" cold front through early and then some overrunning start some time of the day.  Not too good for the trick and treaters.  Maybe the younger ones can get some begging time in.

I guess I had better get some clothes on and get myself cleaned up
everyone have a great day.

Amy

Good morning everyone..

Still very windy out there ,I can imagine the hydro/power lads will be busy again today.

VON comes today and then the day is ours.

Jane, many smiles and just maybe some hugs through your line today. I see a few dust bunnies got away from me yesterday so will be gather those up today.

Hal, hope all goes well at the Dr.s today.

Larry, hope Pats foot is better today and the court case solved in your granddaughters favour.

Shirley, maybe your son could come and start the generator once in a while for you. We do that every so often here and let it run for a bit before shutting it down again. We have a separate panel to hook it into when the power goes off. It doesn't run everything just essentials for us like fridge, freezer, water pump and a few electrical outlets.

June, hope you had a good nights sleep and wake up refreshed to meet the day.

Joy, we always have laundry here..doesn't take me long to fill the basket.

Jenny, if hubby has a long way to walk he also uses a wheel chair. or if not too far he uses his rollator.

Better get a move on and get ready for the day.

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good morning everyone. Just watching the early news and showing more damage from the storm. It was not a hurricane but did as much damage as one along the coast and a few inland places.

BUBBLE  love the link, thanks. Reminds me of when BUNNIE did something like that way back in Bis' Busy Nest in SN and I did one with a Christmas tree with Bis the star on top. I had printed out the one Bunnie did and still have it in a frame.

LARRY  the only problem I had after the cataract  surgeries was the drops after. I could not even squeeze the bottles so my DIL did that for me. I think the manager is more like a dictator-her way or out you go when she makes your life unbearable.

CALLIE love the new name for Oklahoma. I still wear glasses.

JOY  no activity director here, that would mean paying someone to do the job and from what I have seen the building owners do not like spending money.

JANE  looks like you g=have a trigger finger. I had that on my right hand years ago and the surgeon that did the last carpal tunnel surgery took care of that at the same time.

MARY ANN  there are still schools closed here because with all thee trees down roads are still blocked.

JUNE  is that for a week or a month? That would not get you in the door for the 2 places here.

HAL  glad you survived the first cataract surgery.

AMY  glad the power was off here during the night when most were asleep.

I better get moving, busy morning for me. Nurse from insurance coming and my CNA too.

Hall i am with you one nature call per night. if I could get rid of the headaches would be great. Have a great day.
