Good Sunday morning, Everyfriend.  There's  DDs to go with your coffee or tea.  Have a blessed Sunday.

Thanks to Phyllis for her lovely “Autumn Memories” graphic creation which we are using this week.

Food For Thought

Trying to Please Everyone
(By Alan Smith)

The story is told of a man and his grandson traveling down the road, walking and leading a donkey. They met a man who said, "How foolish for you to be walking. One of you should be riding the donkey." So the man put his grandson on the animal.

The next traveler they met frowned and said, "How dreadful for a strong boy to be riding while an old man walks." So the boy climbed off the donkey and his grandfather climbed on.

The next person they met said, "I just can't believe a grown man would ride and make a little boy walk." So the man pulled the boy up and they rode the donkey together. That is, until they met another man who said, "I never saw anything so cruel in all my life -- two human beings riding on one poor defenseless donkey!"

Down the road a ways, they met a couple of men. After they passed, one of the men turned to the other and said, "Did you ever before see two fools carrying a donkey?"

The point is: You can't please everyone! And it can be very frustrating to even try to do so because it's impossible. The truth of the matter is, even if we could please everyone, we shouldn't. In fact, trying to please others can [easily] distract from the One we should be pleasing, if we're not careful.

Though Paul was certainly mindful of the feelings of others, he wrote: "Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ." (Galatians 1:10, NIV)

Living our lives so as to receive the praise of people around us will only get us into trouble. I think of the chief rulers who "believed in Him [Jesus], but because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue; for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God." (John 12:42-43). When we become attached to public opinion and pleasing others around us, we will eventually end up denying God.

Have you found lately that everyone isn't pleased with your decisions? Don't lose any sleep over it, as long as you're seeking to please the only ONE that really matters!

Good Morning Everyfriend!  We have a brief respite from the cold this week.  Today it will be in the low 60s and by Wednesday, we will have temps in the low 70s.  However, we will have rain most of the afternoon and evening today.

I'll be off to church in a bit.  It's my turn to read the Old Testament lesson today.  I traded with a friend who was to be out of town today.  He'll read for me next week.  After church, I'm going to stop by the Farmer's Market and get a couple things I need.

I hope you all have a great day doing exactly what you feel like doing.  This is the day which the Lord hath made.  Rejoice and be glad in it!

Good morning everyone.

Snow is gone and mild weather is here for a few days.. temp is 37° at the moment
A day of rest here, just have to take the garbage to the dump and that is it!! I was going to do that yesterday but with it raining I didn't.

Phyllis , LOVE the graphic with the Golden!!

Jane you had me singing "This is the day the Lord has made"

Joan ,thank you for breakfast.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning, Janie.  It'd be nice if you could send some of that rain this way.  I do thank the Lord for each day.

Amy--Good morning.  To me 37° is COLD.  Enjoy your day of rest.

Joy

Good Sunday morning, Joan and all the Sunday morning Friends.

Another beautiful  "spring-like" day here in Central Maryland.  Some areas are to be in the upper 70's today. Wish it would last,  but I am sure  it won't.

Joan,  thanks for the DD's this morning.   I will have one....... any kind with chocolate on it. LOL

Hal,  back to your question you asked on Sat.   The Schwans pot pies are just an individual serving,. You get 4 pot pies in the box, and I think they are $9.99.  Just about the same price as the grocery stores.  Schwans are  the same size as the Marie Callendars you can get at the grocery store.  I have only had the chicken ones, but the turkey and beef ones look just as good.    You can go to their website and see pictures of all their products.  And, a little write-up with each one will tell you how much you get and how many servings are in each. I have been pleased with all the things that I have gotten from them.

Gloria, glad you enjoyed your dinner.  I have never gotten any of the meals, but they all do look good.  I will be anxious to hear how you like the coconut shrimp.

Hope everyone will have a nice Sunday.

Good morning, Joy.  I guess you are having somewhat of an Indian Summer.  In your area, cold winter is sure to come.  The sun is brightly shining here, and it's 75° at my house.  The prediction is that we'll get to 90° by mid-afternoon.

Hi everyone on this Sunday morning.  We expect to see it get to 85 degrees again this afternoon.  I am ready for Sunday School and Church this morning.  I have things ready for Pat's breakfast whenever she decides to get up.  This afternoon or tomorrow I will need to make her another batch of the sausage muffins she likes for breakfast.  She alternates those with scrambled eggs and bacon bit or cut up ham and also will have a little bowl of strawberries or cantaloupe. I have no idea what we will do for lunch but will decide later.  Nothing of note occurred yesterday.  Once again the University of Georgia was beaten in college football by the University of Florida. South Carolina did beat Tennessee so all wasn't lost in with the teams I try to follow.   I will likely watch some pro football this afternoon as the Atlanta Falcons play a late game today.

The house across the street is definitely finished and I saw the new owners bringing in a couple car loads and a pickup load of items yesterday.  It is so nice to have our street finished.  Since this is a cul-de-sac we don't have any through traffic.

Gloria, it sounds like you have found a treasure with the Schwan's foods that are easy for you to handle and that you like.  I have never been one to use a salt shaker so if the salt isn't in the food already I don't add any additional to it like Pat does.  As a result I am very sensitive to something being salty.  I just checked our weather forecast for the next 15 days and it is going to warm everyday, at least into the mid-70's and a lot of days into the low to mid-80's with no rain in the forecast.

I just see that Italy has suffered another 6.6 earthquake this morning.

Joan, I think the nutritional drinks are probably more to assure we get the proper vitamins and minerals we need each day than about putting on weight.  I certainly don't need to add any weight but do not see that having one of the Equate nutritional drinks and a nutrition bar each morning is causing any weight gain for me.

Janie, since the new Aldi's store opened here in our town I have been able to buy a dozen eggs for either $0.59 or $0.69.  I am sure I couldn't pass up marshmellows at $0.25 cents as I like them and Pat can't stand them as doesn't like the way they feel in her mouth.

Joan and Phyllis, what a beautiful graphic and it looks like this time of the year although we haven't reached it here yet as the leaves are still on the trees.

I hope this Sunday is a good one for you all.  I know I am expecting it to be so and looking forward to being with friends at church in less than an hour.

Good Morning Everyone!

Just checking in and marking a spot.  Read the post and I see, as usual, I am tail end charlie.

Joy thank you for your answer about Schwans.  I am pretty sure my wife and I are going to try them.  Cooking around this house is getting to be a real chore.  And eating out is a pain to me and gets expensive if you go to a decent place.

Got to get a move on and get ready for church.  Everyone have a good day.

Our weather here is in a transitional phase, we are suppose to have a change for rain starting Tuesday through Thursday.  So they are calling for clouds and fog here this morning and sun this afternoon, but warm.

Jeanne Lee

Good morning from an empty house.  Ken and Alice were both here most of the week.  I've been pretty much away from the computer and I'm waaaaay behind - so I'm not going to try catching up on what's been posted.  If I'm skipping over something I should know, post it again or PM me, ok?

During my last stay in the hospital I had a lot of help cleaning and all sorts of things got either moved around or thrown out.  That's (mostly) great until I can't find something - like my bread recipes when I wanted to make a loaf of bread this morning.   :(

Good morning everyone,  not feeling too great this morning. Lack of sleep again. I think I am wondering about the new doctor I will see next month. Just wondering if I will finally find one who can help this back of mine.

JOAN  with your health I can understand your loss or weight but I always had a good appetite and could really put a meal away. Now I can go all day without eating and not feel hungry.

HAL  I bought the chicken pot pies, they came 4 in a package, serve 1 size. I have not had one yet. If you look at some of the items it will tell you how many it serves. For me the meal I had Friday was 2 meals for me but would be good for 1. It was very tasty. Turkey with broccoli, cauliflower and carrots. I took a container of cranberries I cooked last fall and had some of that with it.

JANE  hope your daughter heard from her doctor. Around here you would not hear from your doctor on a week end, you would get a message to go to the emergency room.

JUNE  I let the answering machine get my calls. So many just phishing. They mostly just hang up when they get the machine. If my TV is on it shows who is calling and their number. Those I know I will pick up the phone.

JENNY  I have stopped asking the CNA to do any cooking for me. I cannot afford to throw food away. She is a very nice young lady and enjoys helping others. If I did not like her I could call and ask for a different CNA.

PHYLLIS  love your graphic for this week.

JOAN  thank you for the DD's this morning. Now a lemon one I will enjoy and eat every crumb of it. Maybe take a second one for later. Chuckles-sure glad out stomachs make new mucus. Food For Thought is one everyone should read and I will be passing it on. Like the quote, too. Thank you for all today's goodies.

AMY  I am glad I no longer have to go to the dump.

JOY  one thing I like about the Schwans site is you can click and read all the ingredients and also the comments from others who have tried the item. The coconut shrimp has 2 bags of pineapple/mango chutney. All things I like.

JOAN  have not seen the sun here for 2 days, no rain but damp.

LARRY  I never put salt on the table like some people do. Once in a great while I get a longing for something salty and that is the only time I will get some pretzel sticks. Have a hand full of them and am satisfied.

JEANNE LEE  like you, when I have been away from the SS for several days it would take me a long time to check all the posts I missed.

Good morning, Lloyd.  Enjoy that good weather.

Larry--Good morning.  You'll probably get to meet your new neighbors some time this week.  I guess by drinking the Ensure/Equate I have better nutrition even if it doesn't help with weight gain.

Good morning halkel.  I sure wish there was rain in our forecast.

Jeanne Lee--Good morning.  Keep look for those recipes and you'll find them just like you did your hearing aid.:)

Good morning, Callie.

Gloria--Good morning.  Sorry that worry over a new doctor is causing you to lose sleep.  I have no appetite either--just eat because I know I must.  Like you I used to be a big eater.  Take all of the lemon DDs you want--there's an never ending supply.

Hello world.  The Grinch came early this year: from Cherryhill Mall, here in London. They don't want me back as their mall Santa. The reason? They fear I'll have another heart attack. I guess they figure it's an annual occurence. This is a huge disappointment to me because in the years I've been doing this I've built a rapport between the children and families who return year after year. They will probably miss me and I know for sure I will miss them. So I'll move on and look for another mall and start over.

halkel

Don, it is their loss and someone else's gain.  The kids will love you no matter where you end up.

JaneS

I discovered that this morning was a brunch served between the two services.  It was to celebrate the end of the pledge campaign.  I had forgotten about it but I did not have time for breakfast before church this morning so it was the right morning.

I made a quick trip to the Farmer's Market and got an acorn squash, some red beets, a pumpkin to cook for pies and one large onion to cook with the red beets.  Then I went to the Greek farmer and got free range eggs and some homemade stuffed olives.

Then I made a quick stop at WM for bread.  I came home and got ready to cook the pumpkin and made the mistake of sitting down for a minute and I nodded off for about 15 minutes.

So nice to see JeanneLee posting!  You certainly are missed when you're not here!

Good Morning/afternoon to Everyone else who has come in or who will come in.  Now I'm going to go cook the pumpkin so when pie time comes, I'm ready!  Enjoy your day

Radioman--I'm so sorry the Mall let you go.  Guess they think a heart attack is something you schedule to happen yearly.  They are covering their "tail" IMO.  Their loss.  I'm sure another mall will be more than happy to have you.

halkel--Right you are.

Janie--You've really made the rounds so far today.  In a few minutes I am going to check the couch for ZZZs. :)

A good Sunday morning to EVERYFRIEND!

Thank you so much, JOAN, for the wonderful goodies you have for us this morning.  I ðŸ'" the graphic OUR Phyllis has done.  It is very heart warming to look at.  Thank you, PHYLL.

GLORIA, it is awful when our minds keep us from sleeping, but I sure do understand what you are going through.

LARRY, didn't you already meet the new neighbors back before the home was being built?  Seems to me that you did.  Anyway, it sure is nice that your street is complete.  I hope you and Pat enjoy a restful day.

I have never purchased Schwann's but I know many that do and they all seem to love the product.

JACKIE, so with the "fall back" you got even less sleep?  We do not do our time change here for another couple of weeks.... I really wish we could just stay one one time.....we did it for many years and there was no problem!

JEANNE LEE, I sure hope you found your bread recipe.  Positive thoughts and prayers for you feeling stronger each day.

JANE, your body needed that little power nap as you had done a days worth already....love reading all the good stuff you got on your outing after church.

Just found this.....forgot I did not finish it, so best send it now.

Have a wonderful Sunday.

Just got a phone call from my son, Billy, in Arizona with news that makes the loss of recipes seem very unimportant.  His wife, Irene, after six or seven clean years has a recurrence of cancer.   This is the grandmother of the two year old twin boys.  Please keep Irene, and Billy and the rest of the family in your prayers.

Bis, thank you for missing me. This has been an off day for me.Dr. put me on some new meds, so I am blaming the change for feeling Blah. Woke up feeling really tired, so stayed home from Church and have done absolutely nothing worth while all day long. I did manage to come in and do some necessary email, and one snail mail, then back and forth to bed.

Dr. doubled my dose of thyroid pills, and put me on some strong Sodium tablets. Recent blood test showed the need for all this. So we do what the Dr. says and hope for the best.

Jeanne Lee, Prayers have been said for Irene and her loved ones, and for you. I can relate to your lack of recipes...same thing for me, plus some other minor items that I didn't think I would need in my move.

Time to heat up some soup for supper, and back to bed and book. Have a good nigh my dear friends. I love you all. June
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Food For Thought

Harvest From a Stump

By Joel Vande Werken
Scripture Reading: Isaiah 11:1-9

A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit.
Isaiah 11:1
I talked with a man whose life could be described as a stump; the tree of his life had been cut downâ€"by his own hand. He had squandered everything he had been givenâ€"possessions, family, relationships. Looking at his life ahead, all he could see was years behind bars.
Stumps don’t typically make us think of a rich harvest. But God has a way of bringing new life to dead things. Israel’s time had come to an end, it seemed. The people had squandered everything God had so generously given them. As a nation, they faced exile and destruction. But God still had something in store for them: from a stump, fruit would still come.
Isaiah’s prophecy looked ahead to the coming of God’s promised Savior, Jesus Christ. Although the royal line descending from David, the son of Jesse, had been cut back, we are reminded that life is ultimately rooted in God. The faithful God would bring his people righteousness and justice, even if their stump seemed dead.
The result of Jesus’ faithful life and saving death is peace for God’s peopleâ€"transforming our driest and deadest landscapes into places of growth and hope. In Jesus’ death and resurrection, God has brought forth fruit from what seemed a dry stump. And he will do the same for all who trust in Christ.
Do you trust in him?
Faithful God, thank you for your miraculous work. Where our lives are dry and dead, fill us with the knowledge of your love so that we can bear fruit in Christ. Amen.

JaneS, one year I decided to cook a pumpkin for a pie.  Everything went well but I had a very pale pie.  It tasted fine, but didn't look so good.  I put some molasses in the next pie and that was the solution - the pie not only tasted good, but looked good too.  That was the first and only time I attempted that because it took too much effort to separate the pulp from the rind.
