Good Sunday morning, Everyfriend.  There's breakfast crepes to go with your coffee or tea.  Have a blessed Sunday.

Thanks to Phyllis for her lovely “Sweet Woodruff” graphic creation which we are using this week.

Chuckles

In Flight

On a flight to Florida, I was preparing my notes for one of the parent-education seminars I conduct as an educational psychologist.

The elderly woman sitting next to me explained that she was returning to Miami after having spent two weeks visiting her six children, 18 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren in Boston. Then she inquired what I did for a living.

I told her, fully expecting her to question me for free professional advice.

Instead she sat back, picked up a magazine and said, "If there's anything you want to know, just ask me."

Food For Thought
Sanctification Is Gentle

By Keith Mannes
Scripture Reading: Matthew 11:28-30

I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Matthew 11:29
My friend Ron was miserable; he was inwardly tormented. He explained this to me late one night, by his backyard pool, with the waterfall gently babbling. There, in the darkness, he told me his story:
When he was about 13 years old, Ron started getting into trouble, and he got caught. “So,” he said, “my dad starts hitting me. He drags me upstairs to my room and throws me to the floor. I’m lying there, bleeding. Then he takes a Bible, slaps it into my chest, and tells me I need to memorize the Bible so I will stop sinning. Then he leaves, slamming the door.”
Neither Ron nor I spoke for quite a while, as the pool’s little waterfall gurgled like a fountain. Jesus, God, the Bibleâ€"and fists. A bleeding boy on the floor, trying to memorize the Bible so he won’t get hit again.
Now, let’s get this straight: No one can beat sanctification into you. Preachers cannot shout it into you. No one can frighten someone into it. You cannot force it onto someone else. It is God’s workâ€"and God’s alone. It is good, and it is done with gentleness.
In giving us the image of a yoke (usually used with a pair of oxen for pulling), Jesus shows us the truth of his lordship. This is his gift of gently guiding us into a life of peace, love, and joy. As hard as that may be to accomplish, we need to disregard anyone who has tried to beat religion into us.
Lord, come to me and lead me. I really want your true and gentle lordship. Bless me, and heal my wounds. In your name I pray. Amen.

Thought of the Day

JOAN.....
...good Sunday morning....Yes indeed..." Sweet Woodruff..." thank you PHYLLIS...
..Now that stone bench looks identical to the one I - we left behind for the benefit of our house purchasers, oh how I loved sitting on that bench and facing the trees, birds and the field to our back, often having cows and newborn calves going about their business In it...

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's going to be a lovely day in Central PA with a high temp of only 79!  I'm sure we'll still have a few hot weeks but it looks like a nice one coming up.

I'm not sure how much I'll be in here today...lots going on today.  I hope you all have a peaceful Sunday.

A day of rest here, will go and feed momma deer and her twins and then home.

Yesterday we had a lovely day visiting a local market  seeing and smelling all the delicious foods..and some even followed us home.

Phyliss, I would love to sit on the bench and have my tea!

Joan, thank you for breakfast.

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good morning everyone, for a change I woke early and finally feel rested. Only took a week to feel this way. Both sons were here yesterday at different times. #2 son was here in the morning and brought me a French pork pie. The place that makes them is only opened on week ends and does a great business. #1 son came in the afternoon and brought me some nice fresh Mac apples. He had gone to his favorite farm  and bought a bag of them and other produce. If course I had to have an apple ASAP. Oh so good.

CALLIE  I never heard of the WPW before. Thank God you lived when you are at that time.

JOAN  the rain yesterday did not last long and it was just an overcast hot and humid day. Will be happy when I can finally put the AC away for the season. So tired of listening to it but glad I have it.

JUNE  glad your BP is doing better. This place is too quiet on week ends, not like 2 years ago when I moved here. All those who used to get together on the porch are still here but seem to just stay in their apartments now. I have not walked th parking lot in over a month, been way to hot and I do not get out there before the sun is beating down on the pavement. HP only brought this machine back to the original, been done 5 times now. I am tired of having to install things again. Still have several things to install but not rushing it. I have told every one I talked to there to put me in touch with someone about returning for a refund but told they cannot do that. Darn that outsourcing of jobs where we seldom or ever talk to someone in the USA.

HAL   blame the missing sunglasses on the gremlins.

GLORIA de  wish I was able to wear a sweater. We broke a record for a hot day in the 90's here on Friday, too. Like you I respond when asked how I feel I tell them OK, can;t complain, no one wants to hear it anyway. They almost all say the same thing. There are a few older than me here who walk and drive and are always busy.  When I see them I think they are fortunate. Getting so more and more are using rollators now. Only have one in a wheel chair, the result of a stroke.

JACKIE  I do not respond to every one every day. Some days I do not respond to many at all. I am sorry if you feel I ignore you but I never intend to ignore anyone. I will try to do better. I never wanted to hurt anyone's feelings.

MARY ANN  the water in this town comes from artesian wells and is good. Best water I ever tasted was in Arizona at my SIL's aunt's home. Don't know what that source was.

SUN  what a nice surprise seeing you this morning. You have been missed. Sorry your hand still is not healed.

LLOYD  I thought you were supposed to be taking it easy. Mowing the yard is not doing that.

JACKIE  there are too many TV programs here I will not watch because they show too much and the language is terrible. What ever happened to the decent family programs we had.

PHYLLIS  thank you for the  beautiful graphic and text. Wonder if there is Sweet Woodruff to be had around here.

JOAN  will enjoy breakfast this morning.  LOL with In Flight, guess that lady knew a lot about children. Food for Thought, so true, you cannot force anyone to believe. Trying will make them turn away. Thank you for all today's goodies.

AMY  I would love to sit on that bench with my coffee and watch the sunrise.

Good morning Vanilla-Jackie.  I'd love sitting on a bench similar to the one in Phyllis' graphic and having coffee/tea with you.

Janie--Good morning.  It's nice you weather has cooled down.  Enjoy all that's going on with you.

Good morning Amy.  Sure glad you didn't get any of that nasty weather.  I'm sure momma deer and the twins like to see you coming with food.  Did you put some of the delicious food from the market in the "hidey hole"?

Gloria--Good morning.  How nice that both sons visited and brought you a treat.  It'd be nice if we could all really get together and sit on that bench.  It's hot and humid here and will be for quite some time.

Good Morning Everyone!

Just marking my spot and fixing to go in and scrape my face and brush my teeth and see if I can make myself presentable.  Got the coffee on and it should be ready shortly.  For those that want a cup, come on over and sit on the patio, not quite daylight here, must be cloudy out.

Early morning is always the best time of the day.  Quite and restful.  It kinda prepares you for the day, I think.

Got to get a move on.

Good morning, and all the friends who stopped by this morning.

Thanks, Joan, for the good breakfast.  I love crepes.   Once in a while I will make myself a couple.  Not really "real" crepes but little thinner  pancakes and fill them with fruit and whipped cream.

Gloria, where I live, the weekends are really "dead" also.  You don't hardly see anyone.  Although, I was asked to play cards last night. I have seen it mentioned on the calendar, but didn't think anybody really played.  The calendar we get each month is filled with activities, but not many people participate.  There are still a few that sit out in the evening.  Although, now it is getting dark so early, don't  have a whole lot of time to visit.

Today is a day of sadness for our whole country.   I hope nobody ever forgets.

I have nothing special to do today, except the normal everyday chores.  Those won't take me long and then maybe a nap will show up.

Have a good Sunday.

Joy

Hi everyone on this Sunday morning.  It is already up to 80 degrees and it is just a little after 8 am.  There is a chance for some isolated thundershowers, which would be most welcome.  I didn't get the car out of the garage yesterday but stayed home and got 8 of the 9 things I had on my To Do list done.  It was a busy and productive morning.  Today I just plan on going to Sunday School and Church and bringing something home for our main meal of the day.  I will prepare Pat's breakfast if she gets up before I have to leave in about an hour.  She wants me to fix some scrambled eggs this morning. If she doesn't get up in time I will get her sausage muffins ready for the microwave.  I have already peeled an orange which we decided last evening we would share this morning.  I did watch some of the football games yesterday and last evening but two of the teams I was pulling for lost while two more I am following won.  I will probably watch some of the pro games this afternoon.

Hal, we have played the Hands and Foot card game over the years.  It was always what we played when we visited with Pat's Aunt and Uncle in Kansas City.  We have played it other places as well.  I have played Canasta type games for over 65 years.

Joan, I wish my cardiologist had told me to drink lots of water rather than restricting the amount I drink each day.  I am adjusting but it is not something I like.

Joy, we prefer the Dollar Tree store to the Dollar store.

Gloria, I agree with you that sugar or an equivalent is found in many things we eat.

June, I had a shock last evening when I took my blood pressure to see if I should take one particular pill and I found it was 148/77, which is unheard of for me.  I had just finished dinner and had been moving around a lot clearing the table and loading the dish washer. For years my blood pressure has been around 90/60 or 100/60 or lower.  It was OK this morning but the lower number was over 65, which would make my cardiologist happy.

Sun, sure good to see your posting.

mycheal, thanks for that very fine 9/11 posting. The world changed that day.

Joy, I have been a very active participant in Al-Anon for the last 10 years and it has changed my outlook on life and brought serenity into my life, even during very dark times.  Sure glad your son found sobriety and is doing well.

Good morning to each and everyone.  So good to have Sun back and will love to see whatever she "pecks" out for us while that hand is healing.  Sincerely hope that will be soon.

Joy, I know you are so proud of your son.  He fought a hard battle and won.  And you, too, Larry.  The feeling of peace and serenity that you have come to know is well deserved.

I'm pleased that you like the Sweet Woodruff graphic.  Many of the parks, and the entrance to our library, have herb gardens and one of the common herbs growing there is Sweet Woodruff.  It has a delicate little white flower that is so pretty.  As for the concrete bench...I envy you, Jackie, that you at one time had such a bench in your yard (garden) that you could enjoy.  Oftentimes, those benches will be in a cemetery here in the U.S. and even though it sounds a little weird, I love to sit there and enjoy the peaceful quiet.  But, I don't usually sit for long.  Those benches are hard on the backend!

Nothing planned today so will just cool it and maybe watch the men's final in the U.S. Tennis championship.

Good morning, Joy.  I haven't had a crepe in years, but I used to love them.  It's too bad more people don't participate in the activities offered where you live.

Larry--Good morning.  You were busy yesterday if you had that many things on your "to do" list.  Sorry you have to restrict your water intake.  And I'm told I must drink more.

Good morning, Phyllis.  We have several small parks in our development and they have those concrete benches sans the Sweet Woodruff.

Good Morning,

This is a day of Remembrance... one of those "where were you when....." days.

It's also Miss Emily's 22nd birthday.

Cookies are ready to take to church.   I put some more in the hidey-hole.

Behave yourselves and have a lovely day  (or is that a "contradiction of terms" ?  ;) ).

Also:   HAPPY GRANDPARENTS DAY to those who are...

Good morning, Lloyd.  Thanks for the link--amazing what that man can do.

Radioman--Good morning.  I'll be tuning in as I observe Remembrance Day.

Good morning, Callie.  Happy 22nd birthday to Miss Emily. Thanks for the cookies you put in the "hidey hole".

Good Morning dear friends, This could be a very sad day of remembrance..it is still clear in my mind and heart..those that perished are surely in Heaven and at peace, and we that are here have hopefully learned a clear lesson, to never give in to despair. We must always remain strong and go forward, to make it a world acceptable to God. It is our duty.

Phyllis, thank you for the peaceful scene of the Sweet Woodruff. I have never personally seen it growing. It strikes me as being more of England origin . It surely is profuse in growth.

Must get myself ready for Church, so I shall return later. June

Thank you, Lloyd, that was very up-lifting!

Had to look up Sweet Woodruff, Phyll.... do not think I have ever seen it. Google has some beautiful photos of it.  Thanks for furthering my education!

Been a long time since I baked cookies, Callie..... most of the time I get volunteered to bring the main menu.  I think I sort of ask for it when I offer.  (Not really, happens that way, tho). Happy Birthday to Miss Emily... always will be remembered on her day, won't it?  We had a plane go down in a residential area in Wichita on my birthday shortly after we moved here.... quite a few killed and I remember every year since.  Happy Gr-parents Day to you, too.  Are you floating down there?  The river is high but been higher, lots of flooding all around.

Jackie, I'm another that doesn't comment to everyone all the time because I get carried away & posts are much too long.... doesn't mean I don't think about what you say & in my head am talking to you.  When you mentioned losing height & blaming MS, I wanted to tell you "it's an age thing" 'cause I think all of us will admit to losing an inch or two (and my measurements sound just like yours.... stretching & still couldn't make 5'2" in the old days and shorter now).  I really don't know much about MS but think some of what you deal with is this age thing .... and that does not mean I wouldn't do the same as you.... I am always cheering everyone on for doing any exercise to strengthen muscles in arms or legs and bite my tongue to keep from giving you a pep talk to "sit in your chair & do leg and arm lifts with weights".... but I really don't know if your physical therapist does recommend it for people with MS.  So now that I've gotten that off my chest.....  :angel4: :cheer: :dontknow: :sealedlips:  (I know, I am bad & repeat way too often about my "home" remedies).

Larry, I rarely go to the Dollar stores since discovering the Dollar Tree.... that is such a fun place & I can find so many things before I get out... that I didn't know I needed before going in~

Hal, Joan & all wishing for rain, WE had our share & yours the last few days.  Lucky for us this sandy soil just slurps it up & drains away, but I had to dump pool water 2 days in a row because it was running over the top.  Can't complain because the trees were starting to drop leaves from not enough water going deep enough to sustain all the leaves (what the nursery man said).

Gloria, we had several nights cool enough to open doors for fresh air.  Earthquake the first night... sure rocked harder because the door was open (slider).  Down side is Tom & Tiger think that means they can come to the open door & in & out any time they please.  Like a robot, I get up & let them in & back out.  I catch up on sleep during the day so just a timing change for sleep.  Glad for a little cooler days, was getting tired of lecturing myself about whining about the heat & humidity... and having to listen to myself as well!  Our time will come.....by the way, was trying to remember what worked for your eyes (color, size, etc) & JaneS best, remind me?

June, I have a special favor to ask of you today... my "Daughter-in-love",  as Amy says, said this morning that her mother's doctor called to tell her it is about time they move her mother here (she lives in FL), Alzheimer's is rearing it's ugly horns and she is going down hill fast.  DIL has checked on quite a few places here but after your glowing reports of the place where you stay (they hope she can enter as not assisted living at first), if they have places in Wichita, KS..... I don't remember the name you posted but thought you mentioned Mennonite care and it does sound like a very special place.  The doctor thinks she is isolating herself staying in her own home and would benefit being with people.  We have a large Mennonite community near Wichita (Yoder,KS), so naturally, I thought they might have a retirement community but would like to recommend one like yours.  Not sure if they have online maps of their locations but thank you for any advice.

And I do go on.... nearly lunch time.  I cooked a big pot of beans with ham shanks (my "little" butcher convinced me to try shanks instead of ham hocks.... he was right, big difference & I have not bought hocks since).  I love coleslaw with beans & ham & fried potatoes.... but will settle for beans & maybe biscuits.  May settle for bread if I don't get off here pretty quick!  WE WILL REMEMBER THIS DAY.... God Bless!

Shirley, Shirley, Shirley.  What's wrong with you Lady?  Corn bread is the only bread that goes with beans and also onions, makes no difference if it is fresh green onions and you just cut up one.  So long as you got some.  And don't forget to put a lot of butter out for the corn bread........ ;)  Your welcome...... :)

Larry and Phyllis,  I do appreciate your special and kind remarks.   I have 3 sons, but the youngest one (soon to be 52) happened to get involved with a different era of the oldest two.  He did have a rough couple years, but stuck with the program and I am happy that all turned out well.  He is a good guy and hard worker.

Larry,  I don't go to any of the Ala-non meetings now, but a lot of what I learned there has helped me through a lot of rough times.  I got so much out of those meetings, but my husband wasn't into them at all. He was a very disciplined person and thought if you really wanted to do something, you could do it.   Doesn't always work that way, does it?

Thanks again.

SHIRLEY....
...at present I have no one, re, no MS team whatsoever, no continenece nurse, no physiopherapist, no MS consultant follow up...I shan't harker on as I know that wont get me anywhere....this is something I am left with to deal with by myself...at the moment my MS is going through a bad stage, and Isolation is starting to set in...I will say no more...

GLORIA...
...it would sure be a sad day if we both stopped watching Coronation Street because of how it is now getting, I have followed this soap for years, but we both agree if it gets any worse, becomes even more graphic...we might not have a choice, just hope others complain and they get rid of the writers, as they seem to change them so often...I always see a different or new name come up on the screen in the edits...

PHYLLIS...
....oh, I couldn't ever sit on one of those stone benches without a padded seat cushion...The green checked cushion you might just spot in my old avatar photo is the green padded cushion I used when sitting on that stone seat, I brought that with me and it now fits comfortably on this old white rusted bench that previous owners left behind for us...
.............................................

Oh I am not expecting everyone to make daily or regular comments to all posts I post, or to expect everyone to even make a comment, I dont do that myself but, as and when I will make a comment back to a comment that has been made to me, but even then some do slip through my fingers after I have read them, my short term memory is getting like a sieve...

Hahaha, Hal, you are SO right!  How could I forget... only been 3 years since I made cornbread, the white meal kind you bake in a very hot cast iron skillet with plenty of Crisco so the bottom (that becomes the top when you flip it out of the skillet) has that crunchy texture.  I didn't grow up with that kind but my southern husband did & I had to learn how or else!  Good stuff but can't make for just one person.  Those onions were also part of the package, I do recall.

Joy, my youngest (daughter & then 2 boys) grew up with a "cloud" over him... seemed so many temptations at that time... is also 52.  Finally successful, like yours.  I totally agree with how you handled it.

And I'm off to heat a plate of beans.... without cornbread but mouth watering at the thought, thanks a bunch, Hal.... I was happy with just beans until you brought up the rest of the menu.   :knuppel2:

Jackie.... I do feel for you with the lack of medical organization you are dealing with right now, just hoped to let you know that some of your problems could be "age" and not MS.... My daughter hates it when I remind her that "AGE" is or can be a factor in some of her problems and not just Crohn's.  Believe it or not, AGE is kind of an ugly word right now, huh?

Good morning from a clouded Interior!

I was feeling queasy yesterday, yawning with lots with watering eyes and runny nose. It was enough to believe I had a new allergy. However, it better be a cold from my Friday's outing, I just refuse to let another allergy into my life! I went to bed at 5:37 PM and slept until 8:47AM.

Today there is a Fall Cook Out in the Parking Lot from 12 to 2 with hamburgers, hotdogs and the like, put on by the company that I am debating on whether to go or not. I am one of those that likes to play hermit or gets caught up in other things and forgets all about the activity! We just had a Labor Day potluck in the social room. Fall starts up with all the clubs and social events that run through the winter.

Farrah received a new paper bag Thursday, and she is busy tossing in her felt toys, growling while she goes and drags them out and growling and hissing while she sat up on her haunches and threw them about!  She has also jumped upon the window table and thrown them off with a jerk of her head. I know these poor felt toys are long dead by now!  ::)  ;D

Two things we need to remember, We are not in our "Golden Years" We are rusting out! And two, there are many ways to bake many types of beans, but the sauce and the accompaniments always need a type of hot sauce or spicy mustard for me! With parents from Kansas and Missouri, we were introduced to many types of beans, multiple times!

Amy--Thanks so much for all the goodies you left in the "hidey hole".

June--For sure a day of remembrance, and I am sure there will be prayers said in church to remember.

Shirley--Please send us some rain.  You can keep the cornbread.  I don't like it but did make it when Ray was alive--he loved it.

Vanilla-Jackie--Good thing you kept that padded cushion.

Joy--GREAT that your son made it through a most difficult time.

Angelface--Hope you perk up and decide to get out for the picnic.

Home from church and dinner.    I think the multitude of Brownies may have been too much competition for my Lemon cookies - but I left them because I know that all leftover cookies are put in the freezer for the Youth Gatherings.

Shirley,  no washing away here - but a few more quakes now and then.
I'll bake all the cookies you want or need if you'll make the main dishes!!!!!!!

I also learned to make cornbread for my Mississippi born and bred husband.  Rule #1 for real Southern Cornbread:  NO SUGAR!!    He liked to fix a bowl of cornbread and buttermilk.
(Speaking of "fixing":  that's a Southern term - used instead of "getting ready to....".  The first time he told me he was "fixin' to carry his Mother back to work",  I broke out in giggles.  The mental image was just too much!

Angelface,  I love reading about Farrah!   She must be so much fun to watch when she's entertaining herself.

Callie--When we moved from NY to Arkansas and a coworker said she was "fixin' to carry her mother to the doctor", I too giggled.  Another term I wasn't familiar with was "sweet milk".  I thought to myself--these people put sugar in their milk.  Then it was explained that they called regular milk that in contrast to buttermilk.  Several also crumbled cornbread into a glass of buttermilk for a "treat".  Ugh!!

Callie, she is very entertaining! She carries toys in her mouth, sits up on her haunches and just flings them out before she actively runs them down again! She loves those paper grocery bags! She is very verbal, very active and will come up to you, sit, and just stare at you until you notice her and see she wants you to play with her.

I am so glad I didn't take the offer to trade her in on a friendlier cat!

Okay, all you Southerners...

When my parents moved to Virginia, one of my Dad's coworkers told him that the reason he was late picking him up was that his friend had a problem and he "toled him off to Bowling Green".  What did he mean by that?  My Dad thought he was doing what we call "bawling out" all the way (35 miles) from where they lived to the town of Bowling Green.  That's a lot of scolding!

I've delivered my package to Bridget and we had a nice lunch at Appleby's (her choice).  Spending a couple of hours with Bridget is definitely not dull.  She never lacks for a subject.  I learned all the news about her family, my nephew's family and her grandparents.  I learned all about her roommates and her classes and some about her teachers.  I liearned some campus gossip (nice stuff) and what things look different this year.

I did wonder, midway through the meal, what it might be like if we put Bridget, Shirley Jackie and Gloria in the same room for about an hour.  They might be able to solve the worlds problems....ya think?  And this is a compliment to all of you because I dearly love this gal and would be proud to claim her as my own every day of the year.  As I would be proud to claim ALL of EVERY Friend here as a brother or sister every day.  Maybe I'd put June in that room, too!

Tisie, my computer tells me the Quakers have Care facilities in Riverton, kansas, and Baxter Springs, Kansas. The Quakers are not the Mennonites to the best of my knowledge. I'm sure we could find that out on the computer too. My place was titled Quaker Gardens when they first established here in Stanton, Ca., but they changed the name to Rowntree Gardens, so all religious affiliations would feel welcome. I hope this is of some help to your relatives, and the computer is your best place to investigate further.

Bis, yes, our Church Service did speak of the 9-11 disaster, and I think most of us felt it in our hearts seriously. I can see it in my minds eye to this day.

Janie, I would be very hurt if I didn't have a spot reserved in "that room". Thank you !

After Church I went for a Turkey dinner with all the trimmings, and good company. Brought home enough turkey for tonights supper, plus some fresh fruit, all cut up and ready to eat, plus a slice of Pecan pie. I will have to pick out the nuts and through them away, but will thoroughly enjoy the rich filling. No sooner did I have that packed away, when I went down for a Communion Service given to us by the Lutheran Church and enjoyed that service. Came home all worn out and swore to change clothing and just rest. Surprise !!! I had forgotten I was due for a bandage change, so back downstairs to the Clinic I went. YAY !!! I won't need a bandage anymore. The Nurse said my skin was reacting to the tape, and that was causing the itching I had…lI was not surprised…had suspected that tape all along. Now I am home again, Have read all the messages and answered where I tried to remember who said what, but my brain seems to be sound asleep. So I am going to lay me down and let happen whatever happens.

I ended up going to the potluck and it was a doozy! The company assigns funds to the building hospitality committee and they take it from there. Four grills going, salmon steaks, ribs, chicken or hamburgers and hot dogs. Several types of available condiments and sauces.

All the usual salads, potato, macaroni, green and coleslaw. And different types of chips. Plus several cakes and cupcakes, jello and vanilla, strawberry, chocolate ice cream. No diets allowed there!

There were some drunks, four or five that gathered across the street watching and were probably wishing for an invite, but no go. We had a cloudy day and brisk winds, so of course, the guys were in Tshirts or short sleeves and all the women were in coats. Instead of sitting outside, I joined the group inside at the social room.

We sang happy birthday to one of the guys and a girl mentioned her eighty-first was tomorrow. I then remembered, according to her tags, that Farrah's fifth birthday is tomorrow. I'll have to buy her a new felt mouse or a new supply of paper grocery bags!

Janie--I honestly don't know what "toled him off to Bowling Green" means.  Sounds like you and Bridget had a great time.

June--You certainly had a good meal after church.

Angelface--Your place really put on a spread.  Everything sounds good to me.

HELLO to EVERYFRIEND.

REMEMBERING with much sadness of 15 years ago..... Even though I have been privileged to visit New York City twice since that horrible day, I still can not believe it happened.... First time was approximately 3 weeks after and the smell was awful, not to mention viewing the smouldering of the site.  Then last year we were able to go view the memorials......words just do not say the way I felt standing there at the site of this awful happening.  We will NEVER forget this day, but it seems that many have forgotten how we all became so patriotic and were a nation undivided!  Seeing all the candles lit in the windows, and OUR AMERICAN FLAG waving as we drove all over New Englad was just so heart warming!

GLORIA de, my thoughts and prayers for you during the anniversary time of the death of your son.  I can not even imagine the pain of loosing ones child, but I am well aware that many of my dear friends in this folder have, and my heart aches for all of you.  The young ones and the older ones...I am sure the pain is the same.  Bless you all.

Today is also GRANDPARENTS DAY. Although it has never been recognized by my family to me, I do wish all of you that are blessed to be grand parents a good one.  Grand parents certainly do fill a very important part in their grand's lives.....as the grand's do for us.

Yesterday was quite the day for us.  We drove down to Colorado Spring to the Air Force Academy and joined in the most wonderful patriotic experience.  It was a beautiful day!  Of course the main reason we were there was to watch our Granddaughter Kate cheer with the cheer leaders.  She had so much fun......thank you, BEVERLY, for acknowledgeing seeing her picture on FB.  G & G were pretty darn proud.  On our drive down the Interstate 25, we all of a sudden were in a parking lot....must have been a accident.  We decided to get off and take another rode, that happened to take us through a place called Palmer Lake.  We both enjoyed seeing the area and planned to take a drive down there again soon.

GLORIA, if you could only know how many times we mention your name as we view pretty mountain sights as we travel along.... It is not possible to share them all with you, but I sure wish I could.

ANGELFACE, I am one that also ðŸ'—ðŸ'—ðŸ'— reading what you share with us about your Farrah.  I am sure thankful that you did not "exchange" her for a friendlier kitty!  You have helped her to be a very special girl and I am SO happy for you both.  Oh, and I am also glad that you decided to join in on the potluck....wow, it sounded very nice and the foods that were shared must have been so yummy.

SHIRLEY. I feel just as you do.... I can't possibly acknowledge everyone that I would like to as I feel I am too wordy as I am.  I do have to add that I sure wish I could share your beans.....I absolutely ðŸ'— Beans....but you can keep the corn bread....not that I do not like it, but it is a EXTRA, and I would rather eat more beans!

Like Our June, and others that may have said the same, I enjoy reading every post here, no matter what the content and also try to take the words written with the intent that I feel they are written.
Occasionally I have felt that something I have posted was not acknowledged, when I thought there would be comments....but tried to assume that what I say can not be commented on every time. 😍

Oh I know there are more things I would like to say, but will save it for later....IF I can remember!

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday and Happy Birthday to Ms Emily, CALLIE.  Thank you for our goodies, JOAN.

Jenny

Jenny, Thank you - and Joan - for the birthday wishes for Miss Emily.  From now until February, she'll just be a year younger than Miss Ellen.
I also saw pictures of your Kate on Facebook.  What an honor for her and a thrill for her grandparents.
I'll trade you my beans for your cornbread...and please pass the butter.

Janie,  sounds as you and your Bridget are like my granddaughters and I.  As they used to say when they were very small,  "Gammy,  I 'splain it to you" - and then they would 'splain it for about 15 minutes.  Special times!

"Told him off" is the same as "bawled him out" or "gave him 'what for'" or "didn't mince words" or "got his point across or "expressed his feelings in a meaningful way."     :tickedoff:

Angelface,  the grilled salmon steaks made my mouth water!  I think I ate salmon every day on my tour of Alaska.  YUM!

I've just been out removing scraggly, bloomed-out plants from my pot garden.  It is a gorgeous evening in central Oklahoma. Almost makes me wish I had more to do......but I'm sure I'll get over it.   ;D

You are right, Callie, no self-respecting cornbread would have sugar in it.... I thought it was awful first few times I had to eat it when visiting "The South".  Learned to love it and so many other southern foods.

Jackie, I don't mean to make light about MS but since you are nearer my daughter's age (she will be 61 in January) than mine, and I know she doesn't want to believe ANY of her problems are related to AGE, I have to tease you like I do her.  Being 60-ish you are just starting to deal with the normal process of aging and like you both, it doesn't seem that long ago (I was 21 when she was born) in one sense & yet when you & she mention some of the changes, I had forgotten how uneasy I was at the time.  Now I blame everything on AGE... from losing things and forgetting what I rushed to the other end of the house to get, to all of a sudden finding I didn't have the strength to pull the staple gun that I had completely insulated a house with.

I am having a terrible time with my eyes right now and think partly my own fault.  When I had my check up with the opthamologist I told him I was having trouble reading the street signs when driving, so thought my glasses were not strong enough for that distance.  I've been wearing the new ones since last January and realize they are too strong, my eyes are not adjusting to them and springing back to normal vision so too many blurred spells.  I am a little near and far sighted but it is the far distance that I need driving glasses.  I still read without glasses but have bifocals to be able to check a map.  I finally realized that I should have mentioned to the eye doctor that just maybe if I slowed down I could see/read those street signs better, not so much stronger glasses.

Yes, Joan, I forgot about the buttermilk & cornbread and term "sweet milk".   White bread was store bought bread, not what you served company.    My husband had absolutely no accent and only when we visited "home" did he use any of the expressions of that world.  His mother, brother & all of his friends sounded like the most southern drawl you ever heard and I know his aunt deliberately went into that mode for me & the kids as we giggled and enjoyed the new words and "slang of the south".   The language difference was as great as it was with my Missouri "twang" in England, we didn't speak the same English~

Patricia, I wish these cats had learned to play.  At one time Lauren would play outside with Cas and chase one of the long plumes from the Pampas grass as he'd wiggle it in front of her.  Tiger will sit up to see something but it's rare, she just pops up on the wooden part of the pool fence to see over or sits as high as she can.  I think Farrah learned more people skills because you are her best friend where Tom & Tiger have always had each other to cat talk to.  Only since the trips in the RV has Lauren cat watched and decided they do have more fun.  I am happy she enjoys their company since she has been so lonely without Cas.  My son would agree with you about the hot & spicy mustard, he got that from his father.  I'm not a mustard eater very often & at best, just the bland yellow kind.  Your grilled salmon sounds wonderful.  I have yet to buy salmon here in the middle of the country that smelled fresh so gave it up.

Amy, how did a northern girl like you learn to love beans & cornbread?  I agree with you about getting plenty of exercise hunting for things.  I went so far last week to send e-mail with a photo in search of a missing bowl.  Have a pair that stack & with two can store a big batch of any of my specialities.  Nobody had it but knew which one I was looking for.  When cleaning & putting things away in the RV a couple days ago I found that bowl in a top cabinet.  NOW I remember taking a bowl of frozen, cooked pork loin when the boys & I went camping to CO.  With all the uproar of frig door falling off in my hand on the trip out & having the inside dual tire flat when we got home.... and all that went into fixing, I never did do the routine RV cleaning out.  SO will blame the hunt on AGE, on STRESS or whatever... it's found & back in place holding a pot of beans & ham.

Time to end this book & go feed cats.  This meal is the rotisserie chicken plus a spoon full of canned (people) salmon.  They will be back later to share Friskies canned salmon pate' & whatever else if they act real hungry. I was surprised Tom & Tiger actually ate some of the dry food last night... indoor complete.  I noticed they were looking for a certain grass their mother told them to eat before she left them with us.

Before I forget, thank you June for the information and thank you, JaneS, for including me with the talkative bunch....  I do admit to wanting to solve the problems of the world is everyone would just listen & obey!!!

Jenny, my youngest son was just out that way (CO Springs) & was the first time he visited that area, his "significant other" ran the Pike's Peak race, (she made it to the end).  I have not been there yet but will add it to my bucket list.  I will have to live to 120 to take care of that growing bucket list.  With this post I will button my mouth for the rest of the day.... sorry, been lazy sitting here so have enjoyed visiting.

Patricia, your residence really knows how to splurge on a barbeque. I'm sure everyone went home well sated. Twice a week they have one outside on our Patio, but not with the variety of foods you had. However no one goes hungry here or there.

I wish I could wake up.......

June, the company allots a certain amount of money to the building's hospitality committee. That committee does all the work from purchasing, setting up, cooking and serving plus clean up and delivering to shut-ins. There is a communal meal for Easter, July 4th., Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. They keep good records which are sent to the building's central council yearly and back to the company's bookkeeper.

Since we just had a Labor Day potluck, they either had extra cash or are expanding this year. Someone nominated my name for Building Council secretary this year, but I asked to be withdrawn as I was heavily involved last year and plan on sitting this year out!

Thanks for the effort, Callie but we all know about being "told off".  That's why my Dad thought that 35 miles of telling off or "scolding" was a bit much and the man explained that it was not that kind of "told".  He insisted that it meant taking him there.  Then he added, "you know, I toled him off....t-o-w-e-d...His car wouldn't start so he needed to be "toled".  All this was done with a thick Southern country accent.  I don't know where he might have been from because my Dad worked at the prison at Petersburg, Va and there were people from all parts of the country there.

And now, Good Night Everyfriend!  I'm off to Dreamland.  My God bless us, Every One!

Oh, Jane - that's hilarious!   I might have figured it out if I'd heard it instead of reading it!
David didn't have an accent, either.
However, his cousin's wife in Tupelo is the only person I know who can make a three-syllable word out of her husband's name, which is Joe !!

Patricia, I am happy for you to live in a place where they really regard their tenants kindly, as my people here also do. I wish more places were like that.

I finally became conscious enough not to fall back asleep, but now it is truly time to retire again. I had a good supper here at home, and ready again for book and bed.

Sleep well dear hearts. We will meet again tomorrow, God willing. Love, Hugs and Prayers.

CHUCKLES

New KIND OF CAR

"Really? What did he get?”

“Fifteen Years.”

Food For Thought

ANTS
(Author Unknown)

Brenda was a young woman that wanted to learn to rock climb. Although she was terribly afraid, she went with a group and they faced this tremendous cliff of rock that was practically perpendicular.

In spite of her fear, she put on the gear and took hold of the rope and started up the face of that rock.

Well, she got to a ledge where she could take a breather. As she was hanging on there, whoever was holding the rope up at the top of the cliff made a mistake and snapped the rope against Brenda's eye and knocked out her contact lens.

You know how tiny contact lenses are and how almost impossible to find. Well, here she is on a rock ledge, with who knows how many hundreds of feet behind and hundreds of feet above her. Of course, she looked and looked and looked, hoping that she would be able to find that contact lens.

Here she was, very far from home. Her sight was now blurry. She was very upset by the fact that she wouldn't be anywhere near a place where she could get a new contact lens. And she prayed that the Lord would help her to find it. Well, her last hope was that perhaps when she got to the top of the cliff, one of the girls that was up there on the top might be able to find her contact lens in the corner of her eye.

When she got to the top, a friend examined her eye. There was no contact lens to be found. She sat down with the rest of the party, waiting for the rest of them to come up the face of the cliff.

She looked out across range after range of mountains, thinking of that Bible verse that says, "The eyes of the Lord run to and from throughout the whole earth." She thought, "Lord, You can see all these mountains. You know every single stone and leaf that's on those mountains and You know exactly where my contact lens is."

Finally, the time came when it was time to go down. They walked down the trail to the bottom. Just as they got there, there was a new party of rock climbers coming along. As one of them started up the face of the cliff, she shouted out, "Hey, you guys! Anybody lose a contact lens?" Well, that would be startling enough, wouldn't it? She had found the contact lens! But you know why she saw it? An ant was carrying that contact lens so that it was moving slowly across the face of the rock.

What does that tell you about the God of the universe? Is He in charge of the tiniest things? Do ants matter to Him? Of course they do. He made them. He designed them.

Brenda told me that her father is a cartoonist. When she told him this incredible story, he drew a picture of that ant lugging that contact lens with the words "Lord, I don't know why You want me to carry this thing. I can't eat it and it's awfully heavy. But if this is what You want me to do, I'll carry it for You."

If God is in charge of the ants, don't you think He cares about you and me? I guess Solomon was right. One could learn a valuable lesson from that ant - TRUST IN GOD!

Thought of the Day

It's not the load that breaks you down; it's the fact that you carry it alone. Jesus stands at the ready to help - will you let Him?

Good morning from NC, too.  Cooler this morning and that is welcome.

Absolutely NO sugar in my cornbread either!  I was raised on sugarless cornbread and just can't change now.

The very many Southern dialects are fun and interesting.  And some of the expressions are hilarious but you know exactly what they mean.  I have lived in KS, NE, MS, TX, CA, NY (twice), and NC.  Each region has their own expressions.   I enjoyed learning about each.  Shortly after we moved here I overheard two women talking about some shoes in the window display of a shoe store in the mall.  I heard, "Those shoes are rotten dirty." and was really puzzled.  I finally figured out that she was saying "Those shoes are right pretty".  I've lived here for 32 years and I'll admit I still have trouble understanding some of the expressions, particularly those of the rural regions.

I liked the story of the ants, Joan.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It was a chilly 48º when I got up this morning and only going into the mid 70s today.  I have nothing planned except for a couple loads of laundry and maybe I'll nudge the vacuum and see if it wants to work for a while this morning.  Then I pick up TLH at the bus stop and the fun begins!

CALLIE, my granddaughter who was married 2 years ago married a West VA native.  We met his family at the engagement party.  His sister and mother came in the door together and his sister introduced herself as "Lindsey".  His mother said "and I'm KEE-AH-EEM".  It took me a bit to realize that her name is KIM.  His father goes by initials (CJ) he has an accent also. Lindsey went to college and law school in the Midwest and seems to have lost her accent.  My GSIL still has a bit of it but he has other things thrown in...Texas, and bits of Natalie's PA English.  He's even picked up a few PA Dutch sayings.

Guess I better get dressed and get some laundry started.  I'll check back and see what "ya'll" are up to today.  I liked the ant/contact lens story too.

...I guess we can train our palettes  to wean off sugar....like me, many years ago I would drink tea with one & a half or two spoonfuls of sugar, could never touch it without....but I always remember my Aunt Doreen not taking sugar in her tea so I asked her.." how can you drink tea without sugar?.. to be told," easy, it is now what I have gotten myself  used to,'....I replied, " arrggh horrible, " I couldn't....Now several years down the line, I too drink teas without sugar, have done since my late teens - early 20s, and with the help of a top London hospital putting me on a diet to lose some mid teenage weight....nowadays I couldn't touch a sweet cup of tea without having to spit it out.......

Good MOrning Everyone!

Well it is still dusky (almost dark) at 7:30 in the morning.  Poor kids have to go to school in the dark.  We are also getting some cooler temps, we have had two or three cool fronts come through already.  And the the last one did bring temps down.  It was 70 degrees on the patio yesterday morning.  Nice.

Jackie, no doubt about it, old MS is the pits.  Hopefully you can get your team going and get into some programs to help you with some of your problems.  But don't give up hope, many new drugs being developed all the time.  And old age, well the alternative to it aint so great either.  But that alternative, we are told, is eternal and way above life as we know it.  Doctors in heaven must be bored silly.
As Tisie would say: "don't you think".

Amy, boy you do stay busy.  Like Janie.  Always something going on.

Joanie, hope your day is starting well.  We can always count on you to be there for us.  Thank you Mam.

Like many of you, no sugar in my corn bread and lots of crunch crust, guess that is why I like the corn break muffins.  Never tried my corn bread in butter milk, just sweet milk.   But I like butter milk, cant find the home churned anymore, but the phony buttermilk is okay in a bind.

Coffee ready, who wants a cup.

Good morning Joan and all the other morning friends.

It has gotten a lot cooler here in my neck of the woods, also.  Only in the low 60's now.  I am sitting here with my winter robe and still feel cold.  Don't like that feeling one bit. LOL

Good breakfast this morning, Joan.  Thank you.

I was awake earlier and went back to sleep.  When I do that,  I really fall into a deep sleep.  Usually doesn't last long, but I dream the dumbest things and then when I finally wake up,  I feel like I am "drugged".   Takes a little bit for that feeling to wear off and I get fuly awake.   So, it is time for me to get something eat.

Today is Dominoes day.  I hope I can get myself together enough to be ready to go down to play.  They don't play until 2, but I am not a morning person and it just takes me so long to get moving in the morning. Before I know it, it is lunchtime.

So, I will get off of here and go find some breakfast.

Hope everyone will have a great day.

Joy

Hi everyone on an overcast morning.  The forecast for the next two or three days shows a high of 85 with less than 50% chance of rain.  Yesterday was an enjoyable day with Church attendance and then getting a Firehouse Sub for my lunch.  I had made a large serving of scrambled eggs and bacon crumbles for Pat, which she ate late in the morning so she didn't want me to bring her anything for lunch.  I did make a trip over to Walmart in the late afternoon as Pat needed some prescription refills picked up.  While I was there I got my flu shot so that is done for this year and my arm isn't even sore today.

This should be a reasonable quiet day.  I will attend my Monday noon meeting and have to make another trip to Walmart as Pat forgot that she had a prescription for pain medication that needed to be refilled.  We are going to have Chicken Noodle soup for our dinner meal tonight and the stock and chicken are ready and just have to put in some noodles and get it good and hot.  So not any significant cooking for me today, which doesn't break my heart.  :)

Phyllis, I am like Shirley in never having heard of Sweet Woodruff before.  Of course I may have seen it and not known the name.

Hal, you can have my share of corn bread as have never really liked it.  I will take a slice or chunk of bread anytime over corn bread.

Joy, fortunately both my wife were ready for Al-Anon when we got there and it has made a big difference in both of our lives.  I dread to think of the day when I will no longer be able to attend meetings but will always have the wonderful literature.  I also follow a men's online group.  I am also a pretty disciplined person but that discipline had not served me well before.

Jackie, are there any MS support groups online.  When I was being treated for Hepatitis C years ago I found there were support groups available and I found them helpful.  Sorry to read that you MS is going thorugh a bad stage and can understand why you might be isolating when you don't feel like getting out of the house.  Like you and others I have to limit myself in responding to the many good friends here and yet my postings get too long.

June, sure you are right that the Quakers are not the same as the Mennonites.

Jenny, one of my regrets is that I never had the opportunity to play much of a role with our grandchildren and now the same thing exists in regard to our great grandchildren.

Larry and June and whoever... We have both Mennonites and Quakers around this area and they are definitely NOT the same.  And there are several levels in the Mennonite sect.  And also in the Quaker sect.  I have a Quaker friend and she referred to another Quaker that we both know as "a real horse and buggy Quaker."

I have one load of laundry in the dryer and another just finishing up in the washer.  I'm clean and dressed and ready for another cup of coffee.  HAL did you make any extra this morning?  I have a couple red raspberry muffins in the freezer I can stick in the microwave to go with it!

Gonna be a quiet day!  I'm not even going to try to think of anything to fill it up.  Make it a good one Everyfriend!

Good morning everyone, at last a good night for sleeping. 54° now and I am enjoying this.Humidity is way down.

HAL  like you I like early mornings when things are quiet and the birds are waking. One thing I miss here is seeing the sunrise. I can see sunsets though.

JOY  I have never had crepes but have had my share of pancakes. The first year I was here we would sit out at night till 9:30-10PM. In the winter we met in the library in the evenings, no one there now.

LARRY  my family went for Canasta when it first came out but went back to Pinocle again. We have a Family Dollar store near by but I have never been in it.I have been in a couple Dollar stores but  have not seen a Family Dollar.

PHYLLIS  I checked out the Sweet Woodruff on Google yesterday. Would love to have a flower pot of it in here. Only thing I dislike about winter is having everything closed. We are not allowed to open a window here in the winter to get fresh air in for even half an hour. The reason given is that the baseboard heating runs under the windows and the cold air would freeze the pipes.

LLOYD  glad you slep in yesterday. Will check your link later, I copied it.

DON  9-11 is  one day I don't think any of us could forget.

CALLIE  gosh if we behave we don't have any fun. Do you know anyone who celebrates Grandparents Day? I never met anyone who does.

AMY  I would never miss those butter pecan tarts. @1 son brought me a couple for Mother's day and that was better than anything else.

SHIRLEY  like you I Googled Sweet Woodruff. No flooding here, more like drought, really bad for the farmers who lost most of their crops this year. I have lost inched in height. I think some is because I can no longer stand up straight. Don't understand about your question on eyes. I did have cataracts removed and my eyes do not look as dark as they were but kind of fading.

HAL  keep your onions, I'll have my beans without.

JACKIE  I am not a fan of soap operas that is what we would call your Coronation Street. The few times I have watched a few episodes of one I was disgusted. The so called comedy shows on TV are not comedy at all. Not like what we once had like the Lucille Ball shows of Beverly Hillbillies.

PATRICIA  Farrah  must be fun to watch. Hope it is a cold and not an allergy.

JANE  put me in a room with others, especially strangers I am very quiet. I listen more than speak till I get to know others.

JENNY  I am with you after 9/11 how so many had their flags waving every day. Once again so few do it. I had a good size flag on the inside of one window where I was but here we are not allowed to do that. That son has a flag pole and has the flag up every day. I do remember the wonderful photos you sent me. They were on the old Dell I had and at that time I did not know how to save them to a disk or thumbdrive. I do know now. I seem to write a book here every day.

JOAN  I will enjoy your breakfast this morning. Ants is a good story. Thank you for all today's goodies.

JACKIE  when I was told I was diabetic the first thing I did was not having sufgar in my coffee or oatmeal. Now I would not be able to have either with sugar in it.

Good Morning Everyone,  from the
warm but cooler and sunny,  rocky coast of Maine.

All is well here.

We are having the dreaded (but necessary)
"inspections this week.    I don't have to do an
awful lot,  just make sure that things are tidy
and clean....  which I pretty much do every morning,
anyhow.    My apartment is very "lived in" but fits
the inspection criteria as is.

September is here and the heat and
humidity is finally waning,  Our Presidential Election,
Thanksgiving and the Seasonal Holidays
(Too numerous to list right now) are right
around the corner...   (ho hum).

I should  spend some time psyching myself
up for what is ahead,  but at the moment,
I am just not ready.

Back to taking it "One Day at a Time" ....
Wishing everyone the best!

What a busy morning.  Housekeepers were here, oxygen delivery was here and the Eucharistic Minister who comes from church every week was here.  The door was swinging open and closed.  After I get some lunch, I am going to try to get a nap.

Bis, good readings today..thank you.

Amy, have a good visit with your son. Our kids are such a valuable asset.

Lloyd, sorry your Nancy is under the weather today. Hope it is just temporary.

Joy, like you, I too am not a morning person. I had another crazy wake up at four a.m. wondering whatever happened to the container of instruction booklets for several of my small appliances. So had to get up and do a search…no luck. I was careless in packing for my move. Took too much of one thing and not enough of some others. So being up that early, and frustrated with myself, is a poor way to start the day. Fortunately I don't have to go anywhere today, so I am just hoping no one comes to see my, and my unmade bed, and my unmade self. Still in nightgown at 10 a.m.

Larry and Jane, I think it is fascinating to learn of the various Faiths we have in our Country, especially the gentle ones. The Quakers I know here are so nice. Some are very musical, and all are very loving and kind. Once a month we have a Lutheran Minister come to give Communion..very similar to what my Episcopal Faith believes.

Gloria, I miss my Mountains….we lived just 20 minutes from getting into the Mts. when I lived in Hemet, where we were surrounded by four different ranges of Mts. but it was the San Jacinto's that were always the nearest. At dark of night I could see the lights in one cabin off in the distance. And of course snow in the winter.
Now I am back near the beach where I lived most of my adult life, and I do appreciate the moisture in the air here. It was very dry in Hemet. I have my windows open day and night except in really hot weather when I need to run the A/C. I like the outside air too.

Sandy, I live it one day at a time too. And so grateful for each one. Even if I do nothing special, I am content.

Bis, I am so thankful you have a Eucharist once a week. in Hemet our Priest would go to the shut-ins directly after the Church Service. I never needed them, but I think it was a wonderful thing they did. You were kept wide awake with all the coming and going. Now all you need is a grocery delivery…oh, but you do have that too, correct ?

It seem I have read all the messages, so I have no excuse not to get my bed made and myself properly dressed, so off I go…..

June--Were you dreaming about those instruction books or did you just wake up and they came to mind?  Yes, I have grocery delivery when I use it and also a lady I hire to grocery shop for me.

Linda is coming tomorrow--first time she's been here since they moved.  She has some appointments and also is going to take care of a couple things for me.

The last load of laundry is in the dryer but the vacuum refused to come out of the closet.  Nothing I said or did could persuade it.  So I closed the door and left it with it's privacy.  Maybe another day, it will feel more sociable.

I have a few items that need a bit of ironing so maybe I'll do that while I watch some TV tonight.  Since the vacuum refused to play, I'm not as tired as I might have been.

Sounds like you had a busy day trying to keep your door closed, Joanie.  Good luck with finding a few zzzs this afternoon.

Joy, I've found that when I fall back to sleep after waking early, I have weird dreams also.  They are peopled with those I love and who are gone now or by my children at a much younger age sometime we are all the same age and my mother is there as I used to know her.  Nothing is ever scary...just odd!  And like you, I wake up feeling worn out!  Strange!  I wonder what a psychiatrist would make of it.

Get on with your day, Everyfriend, and make it a good one!

Good Afternoon,  Everyone...

It is good to hear that Linda is coming to visit tomorrow,
Joan... Enjoy the time you have to spend with her.

June...   I wake up a couple of times a night to take
a walk to the "John"  and usually go right back to
sleep 'til the next time.   But occasionally,  I will
get into so called "problem solving" and spend many
hours thinking and re thinking things.

It can be something as silly as tomorrow I will do my
laundry....   but I lay they and literally "get the laundry
ready for doing" in my head,  over and over again...

That is when I decide to get up and physically do something
to use up all that wasted mental energy...  (I usually get my
best "organizing" done in the wee hours of the
morning when I can't get back to sleep.)

For me it can be very frustrating because sleep time
is time to re energize  both my mind and body,  so when that
gets disturbed  the rest of my day can very easily
be messed up.

Not being able to sleep when one wants and needs
to sleep can be very frustrating.

One of the strangest dreams I've had was both my husbands were working together on some project for me.  And a few times for some reason I bite hard - on my tongue.  I'm always glad that I have my teeth soaking over night- and even so it hurts!

Bis, I don't think I was dreaming about the booklets, but this has happened to me several times recently, where I wake early, thinking of something I am not sure of, so have to get up and investigate. Maybe my sub-conscience wakens me, but trying to go back to sleep is a failure. I have to get up and check it out. As the day progresses, I usually decide to just take the day off, which I am doing. Went out for a walk, and checked out todays menu. Decided I wanted to stay home, and I have plenty to eat right here, so I will use up my leftovers. I will stay dressed as I want to take some more walk-arounds during the afternoon.

Janie, my nice little battery operated Hoover Lynx was pulled out of the closet this morning…I found a really dead dried up moth on the floor, so the vacuum came out and ate it up. My hand-vac seems to have bit the dust, and it really is not that old..it makes me think of me…91 is not really that old, but I do feel I have lost my personal battery powers. I like to think of some of my dreams as a gift visit…some are welcome, some are not, but there is a reason for everything, even our subconscious. It really is "up to us" to make it a good day, isn't it Janie. I think most of us here prefer to seek happiness, even the very small things of life.

Sandy, I agree. Sleep is like a natural medication. Our mind and body gets a chance to really heal through relaxation. I welcome sleep…day or night, whatever the body dictates. And if I should wake at 4 a.m., there is good reason for it, so I accept it.

Jeanne Lee, maybe you mentally want to tell those two guys what is what, and you end up biting it all back to spare their feelings. I think we many times repress what we would really like to say or do, so our dreams give us this opportunity . Life can be so very interesting. There is so little we really know, but our dreams allow us some freedom that we repress in our so-called "rational" life.

Hal, you've got it boy. I think it works the same for either sex. We don't want to rock the boat, so we keep gently rowing.

You know some years back my doctor gave me some Ambient to help me sleep.  It worked okay for a while, but then I started having some terrible dreams and nightmares.  I stopped taking it and the dreams/nightmares persisted.  They now have diminished but still occur on occasion.  But I wake so much during the night that sleep is an in between thing.  And some of my dreams are really crazy.  Last night for some reason I was driving a school bus somewhere and got to a little town and they had torn all the roads up working on them and I was stuck there and no one knew a way out of town......I told you it was crazy.

Good morning! We are back to fog and rain again this morning. Even though school started around Labor Day, many families were dip netting salmon at Chitna, or out in the woods, hunting for the fall larder. Traditionally, many start school here a week or two later.

I received a letter from my younger sister and my niece who is 5'4" has just become engaged to a real Scandinavian, blonde and 6'5"! My niece has a delicate build and Becky says they make a happy, but odd pairing!

I often have dreams where I'm following an endless set of instructions. I call them my "taking inventory dreams." I've also had dreams about my daughter or my family as it was when I was a child but seen by a grown up which is confusing.

We have a farming community just twenty-five miles south, Big Delta. They have a Mennonite colony there as well as a strong Baptist presence and a colony of Russian "Old Believers," which is the Russian equivalent of our Amish. Then you have the regular Russian immigrants as well as regular American-style farmers. It can sometimes be a volatile mess, and the entire town can be both conservative and insular.

Today, after yesterday will be getting back to some business on the computer and getting my PSP lessons turned into class. I also need to eat very lightly today as yesterday I went a mite overboard on all those fixings.

My first husband was from southern Kentucky and a hillbilly to boot. When we were visiting his parents, his mother said my speech was too fast, and I needed to slow dow so she could understand me! His family was another who put three syllables into a one syllable word.

Farrah is enjoying terrorizing her sack and working off her prey instinct.

Speaking of sugar, I have gotten where I rarely use the stuff. I used to pour a bit into my first cup of coffee and not the subsequent ones. Then I just stopped and now drink it black. I don't use milk in my hot cereals, and my cornbread is made in a cast iron skillet and seasoned with real butter, no milk.

I make strong coffee as I've always worked around men who prefer it that way, and the idea of putting many teaspoons of sugar and then a coffee creamer can make me noxious! We had one employment counselor who almost emptied the entire bowl of sugar into her breakroom coffee with a milk creamer and also used a ton of salt on her food!  After a bit, she became quite heavy and had numerous strokes. I've always kept that in the back of my mind.

I think our dreams are our brain's way of cleaning house. Also, we're told that our conscious mind is rational where our subconscious brain thinks in pictures rather than words. This can make for some odd dreams! I am another who sleeps about two to two and a half periods all night which is why the other day's long sleep was so monumental for me!

Goog late afternoon,  Sun shinning and only in the high 70's

I am going to try and finish the post I started yesterday and lost.

Patricia, Over the years I have had the same dreams one: I am always loseing my pocketbook 2: I am working in the admitting office and never can complete and admission so I can get the patient to their room. i dream of my husband and sons a lot.
I am so happy you kept your kitty.

Joan, I see our next RH luncheon with are going to have ice/strawberry crepes.

Phyllis, I can find my husband grave easy in Calverton Nat.  as he is in the 2nd to last row, but lines up with the only bench like the one in your graphic.  If anyone has been to a Nat. cemetery the graves all look a like.

Joy, I could not sleep last night after watching the history channel, about 9/11 again.  As you said that is one of the days, everyone know what they were doing.  I was playing golf, when the big bell rang, calling everyone off the course.  they told us what had happen, and we all headed home to watch TV. My DIl lives just outside the main gate to Otis AF base where the fighter planes took off.  Also her brother and sister both work for the German Bank in the WTC. She did not find out they were safe until late that night. Her brother had overslept and her sister was in Las Vegas, the first vacation she had taken in years. So miracles do happen.

Amy, I am a day late for one of those cranberry scones, I love anything cranberry.

Gloria, I am sure you are enjoying this weather, the same as I am.

Jane, there were a lot in my husband's family with two letters for names, in fact my mother in law was LC. He was from Ala.

Shirley, I also know that age has a lot to do with how we feel.  3 or 4 years ago I could still Line dance or play golf.  In fact I use to teach line dancing at the Senior Center and here in the park.

Hal, my husband made cornhread, about once a week. He use his mother old iron pan, he would make it with pepperjack cheese sometimes, of course no sugar.  He loved it with buttermilk.  Years ago you could buy raw milk, we had a small churn, witch got lost when we moved.

Larry we have two Dollar stores in town, one is run by and orinental family and the other by people from the near East, but they also sell a lot of Spanish  food.  It is a dollar and up

Now the last of my book, My grandson called yesterday, he is now in Orlando Hosp. it was a 7 hour drive by ambulance for Pensacola. He expects to be there a month. They are suppose to have the best PT team. He said he is determened to walk again.

Kiran and I had an interesting game this afternoon.  When my Canadian grandson and his mother lived with me many years ago, he was 5 when they came and he brought many of his favorite toys and books with him.  A while back, Kiran and I discovered the Pound Puppy board game with directions and board locations in French and English.  We've been playing it for several years now but today, we decided to play it in French.  I had 3 years of high school French and I still remember a lot of it so she's learning words and pronunciation from the game.  It was pretty much fun!

I hope you all have a pleasant evening.  I intend to do so.

Yes, June, our days are what we make of them.  It's up to us!

Loved the Castle, Patricia.  I want to go there!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who loses posts.  In another folder, I was nearly finished and hit a certain letter and - poof! - away went the post.  I think hitting the capital I is when I lose most posts, but not always.  Another thing that happens - and it did just happen - is when I hit the Enter button, the font size changes.  And it changed again from smaller to larger to smaller again.  I'm going to quit now while I'm ahead!

"His cousin's wife in Tupelo is the only person I know who can make a three-syllable word out of her husband's name, which is Joe !!"   Callie... that's how Cas' aunt talked....I wanted to finish sentences for her but loved to hear her talk.  Got a good giggle out of your post~

"Re, my blackout fall the other day when I was shampooing my hair over the bath".  Jackie...  I plant each foot on the curve of the tub so my feet know where I am, how to balance... (does that make sense?)  I always wash my hair in the shower, leaning back, not everyone's preferred way.  My husband had a bath seat & attached a "wand" to the shower head in his bathroom & sat without bending as he washed his hair.  Hope you find what works for you.

"I was awake earlier and went back to sleep.  When I do that,  I really fall into a deep sleep.  Usually doesn't last long, but I dream the dumbest things and then when I finally wake up,  I feel like I am "drugged".   Takes a little bit for that feeling to wear off and I get fuly awake."  Joy, I do the same, the deep sleep and crazy dreams.   When I wake I feel like I've been in another world or on a trip.

"But I like butter milk, cant find the home churned anymore, but the phony buttermilk is okay in a bind."   Hal, my mother-in-law bought "raw" milk to churn when she wanted buttermilk, then she decided that butter was good protein so was eating half a pound A DAY.... her next check up her cholesterol was over the top & big time meds.  Doubt if she explained what she was doing but someone clued her in & she quit.  She knew that I loved "real" butter so did have it for me when we visited.  Her biscuits & cornbread "were to die for"..... I never learned because she didn't use a recipe, only how it felt & looked.   I always brought back the White Lily self rising flour & was delighted to find some in CO last trip.... will be making biscuits when anyone shows up.  Can't remember if the cornmeal mix was White Lily as well..... I can get Gold Medal here, and do a decent job with that.

Gloria, my glasses are like binoculars, the top part (for distance) reduce objects when I hold the glasses out & look through, but the bifocal magnifies to see the date on my watch (that I never wear since getting a FitBit.)  I do have cataracts but Doc tells me years before needing  surgery.  I've been trying to make my eyes adjust to glasses too strong and when I take them off to shop or talk to someone, it takes my eyes longer to go back to normal sight.  One time I had a different doctor give me a really wrong prescription for glasses, actually made my whole face hurt.  When I checked with my old 'scrip it showed way different than those glasses were & I could see fine with them.  Insurance was reason for re-testing with their doctors.

When I called back to explain that I could not wear the glasses, the lady on the phone talked to the Dr & came back to tell me that "Dr says for you to wear the glasses for 2 weeks and your eyes will adjust".  I was shocked & asked her "why on earth I would want to make my eyes adjust to an astigmatism in both eyes when all my life it was only the one and these glasses make everything blurry".   I think this is what I've been doing to my eyes with the new glasses, trying to make them adjust to glasses that are just wrong for my eyes.

Are you able to skype with Regina now?  Is she still painting? So glad you are able to talk to us again.

Interesting link, Patricia.... wish I'd had it last week, my daughter & her daughter & SIL & gr-son were in Portland for the week end.  I'll send her the link to see if they might have visited it.  She sent photos of them being on the beach.

I keep reading new posts & am not going to talk any more tonight... think I need to button the lips for a week or so.  Don't everybody agree all at once!!

Good evening.

Beautiful Monday here in the Mile High City of Denver.

SHIRLEY, my optometrist said that the older we get the harder it is for our eyes to re-adjust to different situations.  After I watch TV for awhile I can not read for a period of time....same thing if I have been doing the iPad for a period of time, things do not look right on the TV.  Another example of us getting older I suppose.  Seem everyday I have some new thing health wise to deal with.  Just keep smiling, as it is the only way you can get through all this stuff.

I have been watching a doctor on here telling all the reasons he thinks Hillary Clinton has Parkinson's.  I do not know much about the symptoms personally, but his experience tells him it is pretty obvious.  How sad if this is the case.

LARRY, I know many that are not lucky enough to be around grand's and I feel badly for them because I know how blessed I am to have 3 of mine close.  We are going to Chicago again in a couple of weeks to see the two boy grand's there.  Sure miss them being close to see more often.

Pleasant dreams to EVERYFRIEND.

GOOD MORNING again to you, JACKIE.

Good morning everyone. Yesterday after my CNA left I laid on the couch like I usually do and I fell asleep, woke 2 ½ hours later.Very unusual for me to reall sleep in the afternoon. Needless to say I cannot sleep tonight so here I am. Yesterday was a perfect early autumn day. Low humidity and in the upper 70's Clear blue sky and no clouds. Went out for a walk and then sat on the porch waiting for the CNA. Today is supposed to be the same. Sure will enjoy it  if I don't sleep all day.

SANDY  we get inspection here every year when we get certified. The manager goes to every apartment to make sure they are clear and nothing obstructs the windows. Of course we are not all at the same time.

JOAN looks like you had a swinging door yesterday. Hope they were not there all at the same time.

JUNE  when I visited my daughter in San Diego I loved seeing the mountains. The highest point here in RI is 812 feet. Really just a steep hill.

JOAN   I know you will enjoy having Linda there today. Hope she can stay a few days.

JANE  my vacuum will not come out of the closet for me but my CNA can coax it out.

JEANNE LEE  if  I dream I never remember any.

HAL  if you lived around here I could understand the dream of roads all torn up. This state is really working on roads and bridges this year. Election years this state makes a big to do about fixing things that are long overdue. They have been replacing bridges that should have been done years ago. Now they get all the measurements and build the bridge and then move it to the site of the old one, tear it out and put the new one in. Goes faster that way and does not tie up traffic for months. They get  it in place in 1 or 2 days.

PATRICIA  my daughter's in laws were Mutt and Jeff, She was 4'10” and he was 6' 4”.

GLORIA de  your day sounded like we had yesterday. I know I enjoyed a lot of the morning outside. Today is supposed to be the same. With that determination I pray your grandson does start walking. Miracles do happen.

PATRICIA  that castle looks right at home in all those trees.

MARY ANN  I set the size font size so I can read it and at times when I skip 2 lines it is small again. Happens more when I am typing in an email.

LLOYD  I agree a good western is better than watching the news but I still like watching news to find out what is going on in the world.

SHIRLEY  I have a bath stool and I sit on that to shower and wash my hair. If I tried standing, even leaning against the wall I think I would fall. I wash my hair while sitting there, no bending over. Only once did I have trouble with a pair of glasses. Last place I worked we had to wear safety glasses, we were sent to an eye doctor-OLD and he office was dark. Well I got the glasses and I could not see anything right, every thing was blurry. I went back and he looked at them, said they were the right prescription but the lenses were ut in wrong. The left and right lenses were switched. Had to get another pair and they were OK. They were coated for glare and I wore them more than the glasses I had. Your eyes should not have to adjust to the glasses, they should be right as soon as you first put them on. I did have my Skype chat today, They just got back from Arizona last night. They will get the Dish set up the beginning of October then we can get on there.  Another trip the end of this week and then the next one will be the last one. They cannot wait to get there permanently. NO do not button your lip or stop typing. If you did that you would have to start emailing me.

JENNY  I would love to see my late grandson's 2 boys but his widow cut off all ties with our family. The older one is about 10 now and the younger one 7 or 8. The older one was the spitting image of my grandson when he was that age.

Good morning Jackie
Think I will try getting to sleep now.

Good Tuesday morning, Everyfriend.   There's your choice of fruit and choice of hot or cold cereal to accompany your coffee or tea. I wish everyone a great day!!

CHUCKLES

Coffee Spill

When my son was about 4 years old, we were driving down the road. I took a drink of my coffee, and the lid came off and spilled all over me. I mumbled a little bit, and pulled over to wipe up the mess.

My son rolled his eyes, shook his finger at me and said, "That is exactly why you are NOT supposed to drink and drive!"

Food For Thought

Staying Positive In A Negative World
(By Andrew Wommack)

If you haven't noticed that we live in a negative world, you just haven't been paying attention.

These negative influences have been especially evident during the last few months of the presidential campaign. Each party has spent millions painting a picture of the worst possible scenarios for Americans if their opponent is elected. Not nearly as much has been spent expressing hope.

Add in things like sickness, the loss of a job, or marriage problems, and you can see where, over time, the pressures of the world, if allowed, can steal the love and joy from your life.

In Matthew 24:12, Jesus said this: "And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold." He said this would be a characteristic of the end times. Jesus was saying that the negative things going on around us - not necessarily in us - would cause the love of many to grow cold.

The word "waxed" used in that scripture is really significant. It goes back to the way candles are made. A wick is dipped into hot wax and then taken out and allowed to cool for a few seconds, leaving a thin layer of wax. The process is repeated hundreds of times until the wick is buried deep within the wax.

The same is true with the heart. If we take our eyes off Jesus and focus on the evil of this world and our circumstances, then, little by little, the layers of negativity harden around our hearts, and the love for God and others waxes cold.

So, how do we stay positive in a negative world? Let me start by using this verse from Joshua 1:9 - "Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest."

Here, the Lord was speaking to Joshua, who was taking over for Moses - a hard act to follow. He told Joshua to be strong and of good courage and not to be afraid or dismayed. These are opposing forces. If you are afraid and dismayed, then you are not strong and of good courage. They counteract each other. So, you've got to do two things and resist two things.

The word dismay means "to fill with dread or apprehension; daunt" (American Heritage Dictionary [AHD]). Can you say you have fought apprehension ("to anticipate with anxiety," [AHD]) about the future? Have the problems facing you or the nation seemed daunting (intimidating or discouraging [AHD])? If so, you have been dismayed.

The Lord doesn't automatically do these things for you - He flows through you. If you get discouraged or dismayed, you stop the process...

Here's another example. In 1 Samuel, we read the story of a terrible situation that David was facing. His father-in-law, Saul, was trying to kill him. He had been running for his life every day for thirteen years. His possessions had been burned, his wives and all of the wives and children of his men had been taken, and his own men wanted to stone him. Not a great environment! Yet it says in 1 Samuel 30:6,

And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.

Things looked bleak. David was in a situation where everything in the natural said "Be discouraged and dismayed," but David encouraged himself in the Lord. Do you know how he did it? He took the Word and began to encourage himself, and it was only a matter of hours until all God had promised him came to pass and he became king. If he had given in at that last minute, he would have lost.

I see a lot of people today who stand for a period of time and then quit. It's like there are limits on how long they're going to believe God. You might be thinking, Well, how long am I supposed to stand? The answer is simple. You stand on the Word of God and His promises until you're encouraged and it works. Don't quit!

Peter is a good example of what happens when we take our eyes off Jesus and His Word. Matthew 14:28-30 says, "And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me."

As soon as Peter got his eyes off Jesus and looked at the stormy sea, he began to sink. Think about that - he couldn't have walked on the water if the sea had been perfectly calm. All that really happened was his focus changed. Instead of focusing on the promise of Jesus - His command to come - Peter focused on the circumstances, and that is why he began to sink.

If you can maintain your focus on Jesus and His Word in the midst of a storm, you can walk on the water of circumstance. When the doctor says you have cancer, your boss tells you you're being laid off, or your spouse says they're leaving, you can still stay positive. It will take a deliberate effort, but it is absolutely crucial.

You need to recognize that Satan is using the evil and negative things of this world to discourage you, even if they are not your personal problems. You can get discouraged watching politics, reading the newspaper, and listening to the news. If you don't resist this, it will cause you to be discouraged and dismayed, and worst of all, your love for God to grow cold (Matt. 24:12).

The Bible says in Isaiah 26:3 that the Lord will "keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed" upon Him because he trusts in Him. Our peace is linked directly to what we think. We are plugged into this world like no group of Christians has ever been - reading, listening, and watching the same ungodliness as the world and then wondering why we get the same results. It's simple - garbage in, garbage out.

I'm telling you, unless you have a deliberate plan to encourage yourself in the Lord, you aren't going to be encouraged. It is not normal to be encouraged; it's normal to be discouraged. It's abnormal to be strong and of good courage, but it is certainly doable. God's Word will tell you exactly how to do it.

Thought of the Day

God does not always change circumstances, but he may often change us.

Good Tuesday morning.....

...we are getting a bit of everything this morning, grey sky's, rain, thunder and lighting, and heat....
..........................

I dont want to be harking on all the time about MS but....I was inquisitive yesterday to just how many or how few, get MS at a later age, like myself...and my findings show that I am in the 15% bracket of those who get Primary-Progressive MS....and only 5% who get MS after the age of 50....I found myself reading the story of a man who was diagnosed in his early 60s, the same as me......The only differences for him is that  he has Relapsing-Remitting MS, and for that, but not for mine, he is prescribed " Disease Modifying Drugs.." which have no use whatsoever for my Primary Progressive...He is-was also very lucky to be able to finding and seeing a Neurologist on a regular occasion...afraid that would be a no no if he was living in UK...he would be lucky if he got to see one on a yearly basis, or like me, my Consultant doesn't plan on seeing me any more....Here is his story if anyone does wish to read it,..... please, please, do not feel obligated in either reading, nor commenting,.....His leading up to MS, has similarities to mine....Link....

" Just 5 percent of MS patients develop symptoms after age 50, when the condition can be mistaken for other diseases or even normal aging..."

Good morning Vanilla-Jackie.  It rained all night here and is still raining.   This is the first long-lasting rain we've had in weeks.  Interesting about the different kinds of MS.

Janie--Good morning.  I just heard from Linda and she was just leaving Miami.  It's about a 3 1/2 hour drive.

Good morning Amy.  Glad you had a nice day yesterday.  You sure are ambitious.  Now you're painting.

I'm up but I am definitely not at 'em.  Woke up tired so probably won't have a too productive day.  That's OK...nothing today that HAS to be done and I have absolutely no plan to coax the vacuum out to dance.  Wish it would rain but even though the sky was red at sunrise we aren't supposed to get any moisture.  I'll have to go out and water the newly seeded lawn, I guess.  Just like "feast or famine" it is "flood or drought" around here.

Sorry I'm sounding down or negative.  I will probably perk up later on.  I hope it will be a good day for all of you.....and for me, too.

Good morning, Joan and all the other early friends.

Hal, I am right behind you with the doctor's visits.  I have one today and one next week and then will see what happens after that. I am due for some tests or x-rays or some other kind of procedures.  I have had a couple of doctor-free months.  But, then they eventually caught up.

Jackie, my husband was dx. probably in his late 50's or early 60's and he had the Progressive type of MS.  He had been having problems for a couple years before the dx.  He had a couple back surgeries and a neck operation.  Finally, when nothing improved his walking and balance problems, his supposedly excellent orthopedic surgeon suggested he see a neurosurgeon right out of the blue, telling us in a very blunt manner that he probably had a brain tumor.   A few scary weeks before he got the appointment, and the first thing the neurosurgeon said when we walked in..... I don't think you have a brain tumor.  That kind of eased our minds a little bit, but after some other tests,  it turned out to be MS.  He had several other problems along with the MS.  He was diabetic, thyroid problems, cancer to among other things.  But, he did handle his problems real well.  But, things did get progressively worse over several years.
So, I can understand very well what you are going through. And, I think you are handling your condition as well as you can.  Just have to keep staying as active as you are able to be.

I need to get myself moving.  Have a good day.

Joy

.....thank you for sharing your hubby's MS story, and thank you for having the first hand knowledge to understand.......Yes they say MS is not the simplest to diagnose...I so understand we must continue exercising, although easier said than done when MS rares up, one can only do what one can manage, but I know exercise and diet is still very important and diet is something I should take more seriously as I am now putting more weight on, which is certainly not helping......

Joy, you too, will be in my closest thoughts as you undertake your medical tests, x-rays and procedures...

Larry,  I did neglect to mention something to you.   I commend you for still going to the Ala-Non meetings.  I  stopped going when my husband got sick and then we moved.  I didn't have a way to get there after that.  However,  I want to tell you that I still keep my little ODAT book very handy and try to read it a lot.  And, I have so many notations and reminders written throughout the book. I do refer to several of those notes every once so often.   I learned a lot during that time.

Good Morning All,

Bis, I am so glad you got your good rain. They said we had a 40 percent chance, but nary a drop to be seen. Still cloudy, so hope never dies. I am so glad your Linda is on the way. Will she be with you very long, or is this just a pass-through to another location ?

phyllis, you sound like I feel today. I no longer have a lawn to water, alas, but it is just as well, I have to remember to water myself these days. I have a "free" day though, for which I am thankful. I can just hibernate and doze off when I want to.

Hal, I hope these doctors are not draining you of what "get up and go" the Lord allots you for this day my friend. I just have a full pot of coffee on my counter, but thank you for the kind offer of yours.

Jackie, it took quite few hours for my first baby to enter the world, so I was worn out, but my husband was the one that had to be given medication for his disturbances. HIs stomach went crazy with the waiting.

I see my doctor once a month regularly. She doesn't arrive when I take a tumble. It is up to the paramedics to decide if I need hospital treatment. Thank God they decided I could stay home and just go to the clinic downstairs for a bandage change each day. Now my boo-boo has healed, but I developed an allergy to the tape they used, and it itches like crazy. I'll give it a day or two and if it doesn't ease I will take it to the nurses downstairs, and see what they can do.

It is going on 10 a.m. where I live, so I think it is time I get myself dressed for the public. I already had my ear doctor call at the door, giving me a receipt for my payment and a report of the results of my hearing test which I do not understand one bit, but my son may be able to decipher it for me.

Hi everyone on a nice 73 degree morning.  Yesterday when we got to the chiropractor's office it was hot so we decided to leave the car windows down an inch or so.  While in the office a hard rain started and we had to wait about 10 minutes after Pat's appointment was finished to get a break in the rain and get into the car, which had wet car seats.  Fortunately we had a microfiber cloth in the car so were able to wipe off the wet seats.  Shortly after we got home the skies opened up and we had a hard rain lasting maybe 20 minutes.  I sure won't need to water my yard on Thursday.  There is only a small chance for further rain today.

The am just back from a  trip to the Walmart to get a prescription for pain pills filled for Pat and get a few other things we needed.  We have a beef roast thawed out that will go into the crock pot on low and cook throughout the day, which we will have for dinner along with some cooked vegetables for Pat and raw ones for me.  The chicken noddle soup turned out well last evening for our dinner.  I do plan on getting the laundry caught up today.  Otherwise I just plan a restful day.

I had a most unusual experience while in the grocery area of Walmart.  An older man, probably in his 50's, was approaching and I smiled at him and said good morning or something and he stopped and told me his mother had suddenly passed away 3 days ago and that was all he could think about.  I talked with him for several minutes.  His parents had been married for 62 years.  He told me that he had never had a close relationship with his father but that is now appearing.  I assured him that God will see him through this situation as he doesn't require more of us than he will provide the strength to endure.  I hope our little conversation will help him get through this day.  He obviously needed someone to talk with and I am glad I was there to be that person.

Jenny, I was just speaking to Pat about reading an article this morning citing that Parkinson's doctor. I certainly hope he is wrong as wouldn't wish that on anyone.  My best friend is dealing with it and it is so hard to see his brilliant engineering mind now fading some what as well as his motor skills.

Joy, thanks for your posting concerning Al-Anon.  We now have three daily readers, one of which is directed at Adult Children of Alcoholics, and I have read all three daily for over 10 years now.  As they say the old becomes new.  There are also several really great Al-Anon books written by those of us who have walked the walk and been affected by a loved one's disease of addiction.

I am going to beg off on more comments today as it is approaching 1 pm and I am beat and ready for some rest.  I had to get two very large beef roast brazed to be put in two crock pots to start cooking.  What a greasy mess I have to get cleaned up but later this afternoon along with finishing the washing and drying of clothes.  My planned quiet day hasn't turned out to be that so far.  :)  Thank you all for your interesting postings.

Angelface--We finally got some much needed rain.

June--Linda arrived and has left for some appointments.  She'll be back mid-afternoon and then has another appointment at 6 p.m.  She'll be back to sleep and then has to leave at 4:30 a.m. for Orlando.   She has an early flight to Philadelphia.  She will be there, in NYC and St. Louis this week.  I don't know how she keeps up the pace.

Larry--How nice to were in the store and willing to give your time and kindness to that man who needed someone to talk to.  You are becoming quite the cook/homemaker.  Making pot roast, doing the laundry etc.

Vanilla-Jackie--Back when I had my children, husbands weren't allowed in the Labor or Delivery room.

Larry, Thank you. God put you in a spot where you were needed at Walmart, and you answered Him. I am glad you are letting the grease spatters wait till later my dear friend. You are really doing too much today. Can the laundry wait till tomorrow morning…please. You are valuable to us and we need you well.

Jackie, It was Ed's first baby.. God knew what was needed when he women the bearer of children. We may be considered the "weaker' sex, but we lack in muscle power we make up for in stamina and patience. And yet, just look what our Larry has taken over in his life right now…learning to cook and clean and do laundry. I am so proud of him.

Bis, just what does Linda's work consist of ?? She must be wearing herself out keeping up with it all. I am so glad she has a few peaceful hours to spend with "Mom" and I know and can feel how welcome she is in your life. Ed wasn't allowed to be with me during labor either Bis. Thank God…I didn't need to be holding his hand while pushing and grunting. It is rather animalistic, giving birth.

I am enjoying my day "at home". We had a few sprinkles come down, then a bit of sun, and now it is cloudy again. I went out for a very short walk, and chose to walk all three floors of hallways instead. Now I am heating some Campbells chicken noodle soup for my lunch.

Well I'm back from the my doctors visit and a stop at the Chevy dealership.  Both were a success.  Doctor said he would see me in six months and everything appears stable, BP was just a tad high, but he wasn't too concerned.
I went by the Chevy place and saw one of the service managers about my remote that broke the other day.  My extended warranty policy covered it, so I have a new 220.00 dollars remote, no charge, thank you very much.

But it has been a long afternoon.  Doctor was late and programming the remote was longer than I thought.  Any old how, it's all done, one apmt down and two more to go.  SIL will be picking me up at 6:30 in the AM for my "fasting" ultrasound at 7:30.  Hopefullly that want take long.

Larry, you are a good man.  Tisie, you better not shut up, enjoy every word you put down.  And I am not kidding.

Hal, I'm happy to hear you had a good report from your doctor, and you do have an extra special good son in law, to take for your testing at that hour of the morning.

Tisie, I agree with Hal, we look forward to your daily posts. Every single person here is important in our lives, and what you do is interesting, always.

Good afternoon, EVERYFRIEND.

I wrote a post this morning, but when I went back to add to it I could not find it.  Oh well, not much was said other than telling that I had been sick over night and again this morning. It was an awful night....I believe it was caused by a new shot that I am taking for my diabetes that is the culprit.  I am doing better now other than being tired from not much rest.

JACKIE, I read the article that you shared regarding the man being diagnosed with MS.  it does seem that many of the symptoms present themselves in strange ways leaving it difficult to be for sure if it is MS.

LARRY, I agree, I certainly hope it is not Parkinson's that Hillary has, but sadly I do believe it is a possibility.  I have a first cousin that has been dealing with this for about 10 years and he is just now getting to the very worse stages of it.  They Meds he has been on certainly helped him get by much longer than expected.  You sure have been keeping a busy schedule with your cooking, etc.  it is amazing what we can accomplish when we are forced to, but for you it is a must that you not over do things....and it does sound like you are making wise choices.  Larry, I know you served a very important purpose for the man in Wal Mart today...so happy you could be there for him.

JACKIE, Happy "birth" day to you, 47 years ago.  I, too, had a child in 1969.... My oldest son, born in Germany, but it was in February. I found out I was pregnant with him in London while we were living in England.    I, too, am sorry that you do not have a good relationship with your daughter and grandson.  Very sad!

Mark has arrived and will spend the night with us.  He and his lady will be moving to Arizona the end of the month.  He will start as the first assistant to the head pro at a golf club and Megan is a RN and will be working at a hospital.  He will be packing up what items he has here and taking them to his place in preparation for the move.  He really likes his job here but golf in Colorado is seasonal, of course.

JOAN, I am sure happy to read that you are getting some rain.  Also happy Linda is there even though you really have very little precious time together.

Congrats to you, AMY, for getting that painting job accomplished.  I sure wish I were more like you.....you put me to shame for all you accomplish!  You are a very caring person.

HAL, great  news to read from your doctor and good news that you got a new remote for no out of pocket money.  You are a winner!  But of luck tomorrow on the ultrasound.

I hope everyone has been enjoying their day.

Jenny

Just a small note. Hillary's personal doctor and the Physician that treated her when she was at the state Department last year both said all this fuss is political in origin. Hillary had pneumonia and didn't take the doctor's order to rest. Anything else is simply not credible.

It's similar to me saying, " I know exactly what Larry's medical condition is."  Not credible is it?

LLOYD  I did get some sleep, woke at 11.

JOAN  Hard to believe I was here before you this morning. I am late for breakfast and just had a snack before bedtime. Love the Coffee Spill. Smart 4 year old. Thank you for today's goodies.

AMY  wish I had a fraction of your energy.

PHYLLIS  I have been tired all day. Even moving a little was too much today.

LARRY  I am glad I taught my 3 how to 3 how to do basic cooking and how to keep a clean home. Now that the oldest is retired he has been making supper so his wife does not have to when she gets home from work. Second son does almost all the cooking in his household and is a great cook. My daughter in some ways reminds me of my mother the way she cooks. She is named for my Mom and inherited my Mom's cooking skills.

JUNE  I joined you in dozing today. That is about all I did this afternoon. Mu older son was in the delivery room when his son was born by caesarian section. His father was at home when our first was born.

JOAN  you sure had a short visit with Linda.

JENNY  I had no reason for not sleeping last night and the few hours I got this morning left me hardly doing anything.Felt more tired than is I got no sleep at all. Wonderful that Mark has a job as a golf pro at a course now. I am sure he will be a head golf pro soon.

PATRICIA  like most of us I will be happy when the election is over. I am so tired of the mud slinging both are doing. Really turns me off of both of them.

The Ontario Nurses' Association is running a campaign regarding cutbacks in nursing care and bed closures.  One of the ways in making their concerns public is through a series of TV commercials and I happen to be in one of them. It takes a few seconds to download.

Saw it on our UK news yesterday of Hilary Clinton needing help getting into her transport, all I know is that I wouldn't wish MS or Parkinson's on any one...if that is indeed what is wrong with her, and not pneumonia...
..............................................................

JENNY....
.....be careful and wary if you feel that diabetes shot doesn't agree with you....I am assuming this shot will be a one off, and not to be given a second time...sounds like it gave you a nasty reaction...

CHUCKLES

Email from God

One day God was looking down at Earth and saw all of the rascally behavior that was going on. So he called one of His angels and sent the angel to Earth for a time.

When he returned, he told God, "Yes, it is bad on Earth; 95% are misbehaving and only 5% are not."

God thought for a moment and said, "Maybe I had better send down a second angel to get another opinion." So God called another angel and sent him to Earth for a time.

When the angel returned he went to God and said, "Yes, it's true. The Earth is in decline; 95% are misbehaving, but 5% are being good."

God was not pleased. So He decided to e-mail the 5% that were good, because he wanted to encourage them, and give them a little something to help them keep going.

Do you know what the e-mail said?

Okay, I was just wondering, because I didn't get the email either.

Food For Thought

FEAR THAT BECOMES FAITH
(by Max Lucado)

"Lord, if it's you," Peter says, "tell me to come to you on the water." (Matthew 14:28)

Peter is not testing Jesus; he is pleading with Jesus. Stepping onto a stormy sea is not a move of logic; it is a move of desperation.

Faith is not born at the negotiating table where we barter our gifts in exchange for God's goodness. Faith is not an award given to the most learned. It's not a prize given to the most disciplined. It's not a title bequeathed to the most religious.

Faith is a desperate dive out of the sinking boat of human effort and a prayer that God will be there to pull us out of the water. Paul wrote about this kind of faith in the letter to the Ephesians:

"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-not by works, so that no one can boast." (Ephesians 2:8, 9).

Paul is clear. The supreme force in salvation is God's grace. Not our works. Not our talents. Not our feelings. Not our strength.

Salvation is God's sudden, calming presence during the stormy seas of our lives. We hear his voice; we take the step.

We, like Paul, are aware of two things: We are great sinners and we need a great Savior.

We, like Peter, are aware of two facts: We are going down and God is standing up. So we scramble out. We leave behind the Titanic of self-righteousness and stand on the solid path of God's grace.

And, surprisingly, we are able to walk on water. Death is disarmed. Failures are forgivable. Life has real purpose. And God is not only within sight, he is within reach.

Thought of the Day

Only dead fish swim with the stream.

Just a quick visit to say Good Morning.

Joan, the Danish pastries will be a nice treat this morning. I  think I see a nice Cheese one, which are my favorite.

Pretty sunny morning and this is supposed to be the last day of temperatures near the 90's.  Back down in the 70's for the next few days.  It is a chilly morning right now, tho.  But, it won't take too long for it to warm up.

Joan, I am sure you had a nice visit with your daughter.  Ashame that is was a short one.

Have a great day.

Hi everyone.  We have an overcast morning and should have moderate temperatures today.  Other than to water my flowers I have the other morning chores pretty well accomplished so can have a quiet morning here in my office.

Yesterday turned out not to be a restful day as was super busy all morning and after I got the beef roasts brazed for the crock pots I was tired.  When I got up from my afternoon rest Pat suggested we go out to Ruby Tuesday's for dinner and I jumped on that suggestion.  We were cooking the roasts on low and they weren't going to be ready for dinner.  This afternoon I plan on fixing a new batch of sausage biscuits for Pat's breakfasts.

Late this afternoon Pat has another Chiropractic treatment and then I will meet Scott at the church for the Wednesday night dinner.  Tonight is meatloaf and mashed potatoes, salad and dessert.  We looking forward to spending a few hours with Scott this evening.

Jackie, I don't really think it was a co-incidence that I met the man at Walmart yesterday.  I have to admit I was glad when my children were born that I was not allowed in the delivery room.

Joan, Linda must meet herself coming and going with a schedule like the one she has this week.  You (and others) are too kind in your comment about my cooking and homemaking abilities but I am trying to learn.  I am beginning to wonder if this may not be a requirement from here on.  However, we will just take it one day at at time and not try to look too far ahead.

Amy, when I reach a certain point of weariness I have no choice but to take it easy.  You certainly have many talents.  Glad you got your room painted. Hope your husband's MRI today was not too uncomfortable for him or take a long time.

June, I guess Pat felt sorry for me yesterday and cleaned up the stove while I was resting.  That may have had something to do with the severe pain she experienced later in the day.  I appreciate your kind comment.

Jenny, I am sure you hate to see Mark leave the Denver area so soon but it is good he has a good job that is year around and it sounds like the next rung on his career path if he desires to be a club pro.  Will he be near your father?

Gloria, I agree with you in that I will be glad when the election is over as it has been a terribly long political season.

Don, very realistic..I was ready to jump into the screen to raise someone up to help you.

Amy, I woke at 3 a.m. today…wide awake, but the rest of the day is questionable. I do want to go to a 10 a.m. program, but the rest of that is up for grabs.

Don, after all that practice they put you through, that last act was no act, they really had you calling in misery…two hours would do it, for sure.

Larry, I am glad Pat was able to do the cleanup for you. that was kind of her.

I am going to make my bed, get cleaned up and dressed for the ten o'clock meeting then lay down and see if i can get an hour of nap time. Will someone be sure I wake up by 9:30 ? Thanks.

Just the one appointment tomorrow morning and then I am finished for the week, no appointments until the 26th.  Thank goodness.

Bright sunshiny morning out but feels like Fall is on it's way.  At least they say another front is on it's way.

I'm just up for the third time.  One of those nights when I slept about an hour and a half.  Finally got up a little before 4, managed to grab some rest in the recliner before breakfast and then went back to bed at 9.  At least I am dressed and upright now.  I'm going to have to talk to the doctor and see if these new meds are disturbing my sleep.  It makes me cranky  :tickedoff:   and I hate that and probably David hates it, too.  :-[

I wondered if TS Julia was bothering either you, Joan, or Larry in SC.  Around here we were hoping it would bring us some rain but it looks like the cold front that Jane and Joy are sending down from the north of us will push it out to sea.  I asked David to put some water out on the new grass seed and hope it will be enough.

I've wondered that about noisy MRIs, too, Hal.  I  suppose there is a very good scientific reason.

Hope the results from the MRI are good for Amy's DH.

Bis, I really don't feel you would know how to offend anyone..It may be we are all just feeling laid back with no problems. I think too many of us had bad nights…not enough sleep, so we are making up for it now. Thank you for that gentle nudge my dear..it worked perfectly, woke me about an hour after I requested the help. I am laughing at my self though, I got down to the program with time to spare, only to find nothing was taking place…my program is next week, not this week, and there was no Bible class as both our Chaplain and my Gary are vacationing.

Gary will be home late today, and Chaplain will be home tomorrow. Gary and Dori took a three day trip to some island off the Ca. Coast north of here. This island has a mountain on it. I called him on his cell phone this afternoon, and he said lucky you called me at this time. I am on top of the Mt. and your call came through, where as it would not have worked on the island. Wonders never cease.

Now I am at home for the rest of the day, I will still take a couple of walks before bedtime, but I brought home half my lunch to have for supper, along with other goodies I have in my little refrigerator. I am so content, and have no desire to turn on the t.v. to listen to nothing but disturbing news. It is so much more pleasant to get lost in a mild novel about someone else's life.

No Joanie you certainly didn't offend me.  Don't think you could if you tried.  Just that I was up at 5 and laid on the table at the hospital for well over an hour while they run the "thingy" all over my kidneys and tummy.  Took me 15 minuets to get all the gel off me.  The tech and doctor, both, were checking me.  I thought they were never going to finish up.  But I got a phone call from my PC doctor and he told me that they had a hard time getting a good image and they one they got wasn't that good, so be sure to keep my appointment with the specialist on the 26th.  And I also took some meds today that never agree with me, it seems, and like June said I have been visiting the couch most of the afternoon.

Wife has gone to get some chicken strips for supper and I fed the dog and checked computer.

I wonder how Lloyd got along on his water line.

Good evening to all... especially the non-sleepers.  Just want to say last night was same as the rest of you but I don't take pills to blame lack of sleep on.  I'll blame "old age".....  We'll work on that sleep job again tonight~ So do we have a full moon?

LLoyd, my mother used to make us milk toast but we got sugar on ours.  We got it when we were sick, back then we didn't realize all but one brother was allergic to milk.  The rest of us, including both Mother & Dad, didn't drink milk but didn't realize we didn't like it because it always made us feel bad.  I can get away with a bowl of cereal about once a month if I use 1% milk.  When we were kids it was "whole milk" and my sister even had to drink goat's milk to try to "build her up".  But we survived and learned.

Hal, that gel is the pits trying to get off.... the nurse "goopies me up" for the echocardiogram.  Don't you hate to hear "had a hard time getting a good image"?   Gives 'em an excuse to do another sooner than normal time.  I think Medicare says my Echo is every 2 years now.... "unless".  The routine cardio check is 8 months, check pulse, BP & "listens".... and makes another appointment in 8 months.  Guess that's a good thing, I sure don't go looking for trouble.  Hope all's well if they do another look for you.

Thought CardioDr was going to choke when I asked if it was okay if I go out for the Senior Olympics.... he looked so serious & asked what I was going out for.  My answer was broad jump & high jump.  His comment was, "I wouldn't want you to fall on your new valve....."  Don't plan on doing it but was reading about the Senior Olympics & checked to see what the 80+ ladies did to win..... Same lady wins everything in KS..   maybe if I wait another year or so there won't be ANY competition.   ;)   Since I can't find anything about it (for KS) I'll think about it next year.

I'm with y'all about all the mud slinging, probably not any worse this year, I remember my mother complaining when I was very little about the mud slinging and how happy she would be when it was over.... and THAT was radio!!!  I came back after my first trip with this RV, 2 TVs & excellent antenna... that I wished I could get as good of shows as on the antenna.  Son said I could if I wanted to get the little antennas.... so I dropped cable & bought antennas for 4 rooms & love all the old shows on ME TV, plus other channels I didn't get on cable.  I do not miss the all news stations that practically took over TV & never watched sports so am happy & saving a lot of money.

Larry, was nice of you to take time to listen to someone suffering.... that kind of pain you can't see but you did.  Hope Pat's back gets better, does she do any exercises to strengthen the muscles?  Glad the treatments are helping her.

Time to give cats their midnight snacks before I go to bed.  Poor Mama Callie has stayed in the garage all day, wouldn't even come out to walk down to the river with Tom & Tiger & me.  She is okay, think she'd rather stay inside than get those chigger bites when out.  Wish I could trust her in the house, she uses the litter box in the garage but I am afraid she will want to mark her territory in the house since the other 3 have run of the family room/kitchen.  Their litter box is at the foot of the steps downstairs and Tom & Tiger have one in my bedroom where they sometimes sleep all day.  I had the door open last night so Tiger slept on my bed with me, they like to know they can go out when they please.  Old LaurenKat has been staying out day & night, comes in for meals but she doesn't like the AC.  She is showing her age but can still climb the wooden fence around the pool to come & go.

Joan, I didn't get that e-mail from God either!   :-[

God Bless..... Sweet dreams.   Shirley

I sure would not suggest anyone should here should follow my way of thinking, but at the age of nearly 92 I am content with my thoughts. I asked my dear doctor if any of these tests they do are going to cure me. He said "No". I asked , "then why should i take them ? They tire me out, even the preparation is tiring and takes a toll on my health".  He replied, "The tests do tell us what is wrong, and how an illness is progressing." And I thought, then I don't want any more tests. And so I don't take any that require fasting, long waits, frustration, worry, invasiveness of my body. I did go to the hospital recently for I.V. treatment for adding sodium and potassium to my blood, because it was a cure of a problem, and it worked. I take certain medications because they help me heal. When I think back to my childhood and the diseases I had..measles, mumps, chicen pox.whooping cough, etc. etc. and never once saw a doctor. Mom took care of me, and I survived all these years. I think it is wonderful what doctors have learned to help and heal, but all the repetitive testing is not for me. It just takes all my energy out of me, plus the concern of waiting to hear the results. So that's my story.

I just had a good supper of leftover fried chicken breast, potato salad and tomato juice, now I'll take my last walk of the day and get ready for bed and book.

I leave you with Love, Hugs and Prayers, and hopes for a happy healthful tomorrow. June

JUNEDRABEK....
.....I..100% percent agree with you....Indeed, why put oneself through all the distress of machines and tests if none are going to cure you.....your way of thinking is my philosophy too...

Like you, I too had chicken pox as a child, and that was dealt with by using Calamine Lotion ( a milky liquid that drys to a pinkish powder once applied ) dabbed on by cotton wool....

HALKEL....
.....I feel your joy and relief, that yesterdays trip got both tests ( machines ) done and dusted together, saving you another stressful day on Friday....
.....and yes I so agree, why do those MRI scanners have to be so noisy....I even looked up on youtube ( so R could listen to them to prove my point, as he didn't believe me how noisy they were ) where you can hear the various sounds and I could list off the various sounds that I endured whilst under that machine...and yes, I too was under that MRI for an hour on my second visit when I was told it should only take 20 minutes this time......That may have been because I was wriggling my toes, when I thought my feet were outside the machine, when possibly they were inside....

What Is Fate

A young pupil asked, "Master, what is fate."

"Ah, my son, it is what has brought great nations together. It has made the world a smaller place in which to live. It has inspired men of worth to work endless hours. It will some day enable men to span the universe and light years of travel will soon become mere seconds in time."

"And that, my master, is fate?"

"Oh, fate! I thought you said freight."

Food For Thought

God's Wisdom vs. Man's Wisdom

MEMORANDUM
TO: Jesus, Son of Joseph, Woodcrafters Shop, Nazareth
FROM: Jordan Management Consultants, Jerusalem
SUBJECT: Staff Aptitude Evaluation

Thank you for submitting the resumes of the 12 men you have picked for management positions in your new organization. All of them have now taken our battery of tests, and we have run them with our psychologist and vocational aptitude consultant.

It is the staff opinion that most of your nominees are lacking in background, education and vocational aptitude for the type of enterprise you are undertaking. They do not have the team concept. We would recommend that you continue your search for persons of experience in managerial ability and proven capability.

Simon Peter is emotionally unstable and given to fits of temper. Andrew has absolutely no qualities of leadership. The two brothers, James and John, the sons of Zebedee, place personal interest above company loyalty. Thomas demonstrates a questioning attitude that would tend to undermine morale. We feel that it is our duty to tell you that Matthew has been blacklisted by the Greater Jerusalem Better Business Bureau. James, the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddeus definitely have radical leanings, and they both registered a high score on the manic depressive scale.

One of the candidates, however, shows great potential. He is a man of ability and resourcefulness, meets people well, has a keen business mind and has contact in high places. He is highly motivated, ambitious and innovative. We recommend Judas Iscariot as your controller and right hand man. All the other profiles are self-explanatory.

We wish you every success in your new venture.

Thought of the Day

Satan will come as close as he can to giving advice that sounds as though it comes from the true God. The bluring of the distinctions between right and wrong, between the individual and God, and between rationality and irrationality - all of these confusions serve his purpose."

Good morning,  Joan and Amy.

Amy,  sorry that your husband wasn't able to get the MRI.

Joan, have not had any bear claws for a very long time.  Something different for breakfast this morning.

Haven't been up this early for a while, and sure takes a long time for it to begin getting daylight now.  I don't like the evenings, either.  Gets dark before 8 pm. now.  But, some of us have still been sitting out, as it has been very pleasant.  Last night it was after 9 when some of us came in.  Nobody solved any of the world's problems, tho.  LOL  We do try  !!

Have a good day.

Joy

Good morning, Amy.  That's too bad that your husband wasn't able to complete the MRI.  Sure hope you have your geemogotchees on if it's only 1°.

Joy--Good morning.  For sure the days are getting shorter.  It won't be long and it will be dark before supper.  The bakery in Publix usually has bear claws.

JOAN....JOY....
...good morning....thank you for our morning welcome teas and coffees...

....JOY...better luck next time, re, solving our worlds problems....I am sure all of us put together, here in S & Fs, have better brains, than these people with so called brains, that are supposedly meant to be already doing it.....

Good morning to all the early birds.  I slept better last night so I think this day will be better, too.  I have to go to the grocery store but I'll take my time.

Speaking of grocery stores....a couple of weeks ago when I went shopping and David was loading all the bags into the back of the car, I decided to look over the receipt because I was puzzled about why the bill seemed so high for just a few bags.   I was shocked to find that I had been charged $16.00 plus for two apples!  David took the receipt, the bag of two apples, and went back in to the Service Desk.  The lady at the desk finally decided that "perhaps something else was sitting on the scales when the checker weighed the apples and rang it up".  Well, duh!  They reweighed the apples and refunded the difference with no questions asked.  It pays to check your receipt very carefully.  If I hadn't I would have been out a chunk of money.  Mistakes can happen when we all get in a rush.

Amy, was it the extremely loud noises that he couldn't tolerate?  I don't blame him for putting a stop to it.  I wonder just how much all these tests actually contribute to the treatment of our problems.  Thanks, Shirley, for mentioning the "goopiness" of the Echo.  I am supposed to have one next week and I'll be prepared for that mess.

Sorry about the sore throat, Lloyd.  Hope it is better today.  Take care of yourself.  You don't want to end up back in the hospital with an infection.

Good Morning Everyone!

I have to wonder why they give all us older folks these test and expect NOt to find something out of kilter.  Our old bodies have done a lot of hard work.  I think maybe my Cardio doc is the only one who believes that.  This new, also young, PC I now have is eager and inquisitive, which is good, but he ought to think a minute or two before ordering more 'STUFF'.  I feel fairly certain that none of these other doctors want to operate on an old 83 year old man with a heart condition.  Like my heart doctor says if one is really necessary there are ways to manage the heart, but they aren't eager to have to.

I understand the ultrasound on my kidneys, they want to see if the treatment they are giving me, seed in the belly, is working.   And blood test to be sure meds are doing their job, but, like June says this other testing is starting to be a real chore.

Speaking of chores, I have to get in and clean up and get read to see the neurosurgeon this morning.  Hopefully he has a miracle in little goody bag for my old back, but I doubt it.

Amy sorry your husband backed out of the MRI.  You didn't say what they wanted to look at, but hopefully there is another route to peek in and see.  They do have a whole sackful of play pretteries.

Everyone have a great day.

Janie--Good morning.

Good morning, Phyllis.  Glad you slept better.  Take it easy when you go to "gather".  Wow!!  $16 for two apples.  They must have been golden.:)

Have to admit, as much as I dont like going underneath it, if it wasn't for an MRI machine, we wouldn't have gotten to the bottom of me having MS.....At least I would never need to go under it again for this same illness, as like June says, why, if its not going to cure me?

Hi everyone on this Thursday morning.  My schedule this morning is the same as most Thursday mornings in that I will pick up my friend and got to coffee, take him home and then back to the Church for the Wisdom group and then will stop at Aldi's for some fresh vegetables.  Then later this afternoon Pat has her final Chiropractic treatment for this week.

I read all of the postings since yesterday before I got out of bed this morning as have limited time to post this morning.

Hal, nice to get a break in doctor appointments and tests.  I have understood the booming noise in an MRI is caused by the magnets used.  When you have a pacemaker you can never have another MRI so that is one test I don't have to worry about.

Phyllis, we had no impact from the TS Julia.

JaneS, I think you hit the nail on the head that "Everyone is at the doctor's office" as the reason for few postings. It is either that or we may be taking an afternoon rest or nap.

Lloyd, late summer colds are the pits.  Hope you are feeling better today.

Amy, sorry that your hubby wasn't able to complete his MRI.

Joy, summer has only one more week to go.  It seems like it was a long summer.

Enjoyed reading all the postings.

Good morning everyone. I am still slowly getting thins PC set to where it is where I like it. Will be great when it all is set up.  Right now I am using Google more than IE. Cannot even sign into S&F. All of a sudden it will not accept my password. Oh well at least no problem with Google.

LARRY  you are doing more cooking than I am now.

JOAN  right now on the TV it says it is 59°, no wonder I slept better last night.

HAL  I have started looking for a different PCP, this one just does nothing for this pain. 2 years ago he said he would look into a pain clinic, still has not done it.

PHYLLIS  no fun when we cannot get the sleep we need. If I get cranky at least I am alone and no one else is the brunt of it. We could use some good rain here, too. We might not have the beautiful fall colors because of the drought and what the gypsy moth caterpillars did to the trees. Leaves came back on some trees but others have been bare all summer. Just saw where Julia has dropped a lot of rain in places and more expected.

JOAN  you could not offend anyone even if you tried to.

JUNE  have you ever read any of Fern Michaels books? With no computer I went down to the library and got one of hers, A series about a “sisterhood” that ended being called vigilantes. I think there are 14 books about them, I must have read 7 of them. Each book is complete so do not miss anything. I don't know if all of them are downstairs but I enjoyed the ones I read.

LLOYD  you just cannot win. Seems one thing after another for you, now a sore throat.

SHIRLEY  my never liked milk and still doesn't. I had to use flavors to put in milk to get her to drink it, mad a lot of pudding and custards to get it into her. You are the first one I heard of to get those little antennas. I have been wondering about them because for the little TV I watch I hate paying for cable and all those channels I would never watch. I am an American and have no interest in the Latin and Portuguese channels I get. I do not watch sports or the shopping channels either. What antenna did you get? I see ads for several different ones and wonder how they work. I do get the Me channel, better shows there than the ones on cable these days. I get that Echo every year when I get my physical. Yucky goop for sure.

JUNE all I want from my doctor is some relief from pain, looks like that will never happen. I know I had measles and strep throat several times. That is all I know about. I did get the  shingles shot, doctor gave it to me and the pneumonia shots.

JACKIE  don't know if I had chicken pox but my 3 did and my daughter got a light case of shingles, she caught it right away and had the meds for it. Told my sons they should get the shot, too. I have had several MRI's and once had the music playing but that made it worse so asked the tech to stop the music. Felt like I was in that machine for hours. That laying there not moving is torture.

JOAN  I love bear claws and will enjoy one this morning. Cute chuckles. Love Food for Thought, already copied it to share. Thank you for all today's goodies.

AMY  wow it was cold there this morning. Looks more like mid winter than the end of summer. Looks like your hubby could not lay there in the MRI for more than an hour not moving or take the noise.

JOY  I miss the sitting out in the evenings here like it was when I first moved here. We sat there till 9:30 and even later some nights. Fun times.

JANE  good morning.

PHYLLIS  that happened to me once at the market. I was charged almost $50 for a small roast beef. I always checked everything when I got home. Called the market, they told me to bring the roast and the receipt back. Did that then gave me the money and I got the roast for free,That is that markets policy. If you find a mistake they will refund the $$ and you get the item free. When I get the order I went online for delivery I check every thing before the delivery person leaves. So far every thing has been good.

HAL  like you I would love something to help my back feel better, even a little better would feel great.

Many years ago I was overcharged on something.  It was a small amount, but way too much for the item.  The manager of the store was a friend of Tom's and I showed him the receipt and he corrected things immediately.  I don't recall I got the item free, but at least the wrong was righted.

I am leaving tomorrow for Indianapolis and Tom will keep the home fires burning!  It is always nice to see that family.

Strangely it was when I came down with a cold, a week leading up to my second MRI, rather than take over the counter med's, I chose to drink an early morning cup of chamomile tea, fresh lemon juice and honey...I done this every morning....it did seem to have done the trick come the day I went under, at least I didn't make a grab for those tissues ( not that I would have been able too, ) nor done any coughing or sneezing.....
.........................................................

For the first time in a couple of weeks, my leg feels a tad better, enough to be able to trust it, and my body, and my walking, ( any walking has to be done on the spur of the moment as my whole body can change in a blink of an eye, literally, ) so, with R walking along at a distance to my side, and me taking my rollator out, I managed a short downhill, turning right then left in a half circle before coming back to the bottom, then going straight ahead to my left, towards the alley, then back, and up the hill to home....Guess a 15 minute walk but, to be out and about and feeling fresh air on my skin was just heaven.....it felt good to be outside....Our parkhome site seems so deserted, so lifeless, just waved to one couple walking in the distance, ahead of us and through the small wooded area, where I usually like to walk with R and Benji....

JOAN....
...I am now back where I started, a kindof middle of the road, not as bad as I have been over these last couple of weeks, but bad enough that I wouldn't be able to do that walk again.....

I did go to my monthly MS social evening Tuesday, been a two month wait, as they never held one last month....Not one of my better visits, wasn't overkeen on the nights subject matter, plus I wasn't in the best frame of mind, but it was a car to door, door to car with R, although our carparking to our home is on a slope, and the evening was dark at 9.30pm, I found it very hard when we arrived home in getting out of the car and down the slope into our home, even with Rs sleeve to grab hold of....Well at least our MS social evening always lands up with a raffle and a trolley load of teas and nibbles, biscuits, cheese...I always make for the tiny cheese squares and the sandwiched cheese biscuits, and grape if there are any going...I will leave the choccy wafer biscuits alone, and the single wrapped choccy marshmallow cakes.......

Im back.   And things went very well. Clinic was close by the door of hospital and they called me in early and the doctor was a nice guy.  He took his time and pulled all the MRI's up and explained what was going on.  His recommendation, try the shots in the back and if they don't work then an operation that, the way he explained it, will be minor and wouldn't be performed until everyone, medically, agrees.  My Daughter was well pleased with him, as she said, she liked his conservative approach.  The operation would in and out same day BUT because of my age I might be kept in overnight for observation.  In the meantime, more PT and the shots.

Just one more appointment and if it goes as well as the rest of the week, whooooopeee.  The good Lord does take care of us, doesn't he.

He said he doesn't agree with the radiologist write up, it isn't as serious as was written up.

Good Morning Dear Ones, it is almost noon out here on the W. coast, but I just now finished my cream of wheat breakfast. I didn't wake up till nearly 8 o'clock this morning. I do remember a trip to the bathroom at 4 a.m. but right back to a deep sleep after that. I am missing musical bingo this morning, but I don't mind a bit..I am enjoying my life at home. I will go down for choir practice at one thirty, but the rest of the day will dictate itself as to what I do and where I go. It's a great life !!!!!

Jackie, it makes me happy that you had such a nice walk this morning. It is good to be out among nature and fresh air, and it is good for the body and mind both. Have you considered using a cane when you walk with R. ? You could hold his arm with one hand, then use the cane in the other hand. It would give you more confidence to have help on both sides of you. I used on for balance long before I got my cart, but now I must have the cart for when my legs cramp up badly. Sitting down on the cart bench gives relief after a while. Due to lack of blood flow, the leg muscles do not get enough oxygen from the blood and this causes quite severe cramping.

Phyllis, I am glad you checked that Grocery receipt, Six bucks an apple would give me a stomach ache. They really should have given you the apples  free for having had to make two trips.

Hal, I am glad you have a cardio doctor that understands how you feel. It renews our faith in the medical profession. My new doctor does not push electronic testing at all, and she trusts my judgement enough to allow me to make decisions. As do my kids.

Gloria, I am so proud of you for all you can arrange on you computer. I would not begin to know how to do the things you do. Yes, I have read several of Fern Michaels books, and i especially enjoyed the ones about the group of girls and their sisterhood. I will remember to seek more out next time I go down to our library here at Rowntree. It is very extensive, they have every style of book there is, even large print for those that need it. And a whole group of "religious" novels. Gloria, I am so very sorry you have to have that constant pain. There are Pain medications to help, but usually they have to be increased in strength as time goes by. I wonder if acupuncture would help you ?

Time for me to get myself dressed in street clothing and get out for a walk. I'll check the menu for todays lunch and if there is something appealing I will sit down and order and save most of it for supper. I am still full from my big breakfast.

See you all later, June

Are you still fixing crepes?  I'll have the Nutella one - thank you.

We had the normal rough flight over the Rocky Mountains into Denver yesterday but back to wonderful weather here.  Seattle was sunny and so pretty for this last week.  Lots of ferry rides and meeting with cousins & nephew with family.  Playing with a two-year-old and a four-year-old - so much fun.  Traffic there is awful.  We left the north end of Seattle at 5:15 am in order to get there & go through a predicted two-hour-line at the TSA airport.  We were fine - having circumvented the freeway where three lanes were blocked - the t.v station had that news before we left the hotel.  No breakfast - they did have coffee and a cookie to hand us going out the door.  Fortunately - because no food on the plane unless we buy it.  Cheap flight but a wonderful view of Mt. Rainier and others.

Back to real life here - there is a pot of beef vegetable soup simmering while doing the washing.  I have never lost any height - why, I don't know.  Just so happy that my back didn't act up while toting a little suitcase and a very heavy purse.  We traveled one week with overhead little suitcase each only.  It can be done with washer available.  They wanted $50 round trip for a large suitcase & darned if I was going to pay - :)

JOAN.....
....yes our subject matter was a man sent from the CAB office....( Citizens' Advice Bureau ) talking about PIP mainly, ( Personal Independent Payment ) something I claimed for re, my MS diagnoses last year but got turned down at age 64,.... can't claim it this year even though my MS has become worse, as it has a cut off age of 65....If I had of gotten it last year, I would be on it for however long....So I had to sit and listen through, to something that I felt some anger and bitterness towards......

The PIP allowance is awarded on a points system, a point for this two points for that etc...the PIP payment would be adjusted to the amount of points.....last year when I was diagnosed, I just didn't get enough points to receive anything...especially that you are judged on the day they come to your home and see you, not what has happened to you  in the past....... This payment is not assessed by the CAB, but an outside company....and my form was filled in with the help of my then MS Specialist Nurse, not the CAB....This CAB man said he words it in our favour, as he has filled in so many of these forms, and has rarely had any rejections...

...agree, everyone with MS is entitled to an MS team....I can go find them myself, even out of our catchment area...but as my female GP has told me, it still has to go through a referral from her first...I have found via the internet a couple of top specialised hospitals that supposedly have a great MS team, but one is in the heart of London, think the other I found is in Kent....R of course is concerned on the distance and has as good as told me why cant I find someone nearer, yes nearer is the team I  have an ongoing complaint....and would you believe it was the MS Nurse who gave me the details of the complaints board, told me if she was me, she would be putting in a complaint, so I took her advice, even if part of my complaint, she knows, includes her....

Carol--Sounds like you had a great trip.  There's crepes in the "hidey hole".

Vanilla-Jackie--Thanks for explaining PIP.

Hi halkel.

June--Enjoy choir practice.

I am feeling I may quit choir. It wore me out, and it is rather complicated in pattern. It is not just singing a tune.  It would be the difference of Ballet and Ball Room dancing. I came home, lay down, and slept for nearly three hours. Went out for a walk to wake up, now home for the day....perhaps one more walk before bedtime.

Jackie, it would be nice if there were a program here on MS, so you would be able to converse with others about how they are doing. We have programs for other ailments, and it would be a big boost for you to find an MS pal here. I find sharing similar problems a true help, because others with the problem understand perfectly what you are feeling.

JOAN  I sent a few of your stories to the Resident Coordinator here and he used them in his monthly newsletter. As long as there is the authors name he said he can use them, I told him not to use my name and he did the first time so told him I would not share any more. He used a couple more and put from a resident. There are a couple here who love getting their name in that letter, not me.

MARY ANN  safe travels and have a good time.

JOAN  my Dad would take warm water, lemon and some kind of liquor when he felt a cold coming on. Go to bed and pull the covers over his head. He said he sweated the cold right out of him that way.

JACKIE  I got out for a little walking today. Nice and cool so enjoyed that. Glad you used your rollator on your walk.

HAL  I had those cortisone shots in my back several times but they did not help. Last one was 6 years ago. Even back then at 79 the doctor said I was too old for surgery.  Other than my back I am in good health. I would love to find a doctor like him.

JUNE  I think I have read 7 or 8 of Fern Michaels Sisterhood books.  I love the way they have righted an injustice for all of them. My insurance would not cover acupuncture. From what the last orthopedic  doctor said when he looked at the xrays he took I have bone rubbing on bone and that is what is causing the pain. Again I am too old for surgery. Heck they could remove that bottom rib bone and it sure would help. I think they are afraid to be sued if something went wrong.

CAROL  last time my daughter flew here from San Diego he sent a box ahead of her with clothes in it. Was cheaper than paying extra and she had a back pack with her.

Have a good night every one.

Gloria, your daughter is so wise. I wish there were more young women like her in the world. And you are sure no slouch in your wisdom !! You and I would have worked well in that Sisterhood we read of when we were younger, but we were destined to raise our children to be responsible adults, and we can be proud of that, like so many of our buddies here in the S.S.

Gloria, I too have had the shots in the back with negative results.  Told the surgeon that but between the doctor, my wife and daughter (an RN) they reminded me that much improvement has been made in how to place the shots..

I also was told some years back surgery wouldn't help, but I kiddingly ask him if he did the surgery that only required a band-aid and he said you mean the spine commercial, and I reply yes. He said yes, and that they used the same procedures as they did.  One other thing, this is at Brooke Army Medical Center, here in San Antonio where they treat most of the wounded from the Middle East.  They work on some pretty bad cases and know their business.  So I feel pretty competent in them knowing their business.  Also my wife goes to a doctor, not at the same place, and get shots in her knee and they work well for her.   And it is all in the office.

Hal - Regarding back surgery........my husband was 80 when he had his last back surgery. It was more complicated than the others so he had four band-aids! This time they fused part of his spine. He's 82 and it's still doing well. In the past 10 years he had three of the "one band-aid" surgeries, which worked well for awhile. At the time the procedure was new and the only doctor who did it was in DeFuniak Springs, FL, a 5 1/2 hr. drive from here. I hope the shots will work for you. As you said, they've improved things so much over the past few years.

Joan - I was so happy to hear you finally had rain! It rained both yesterday and today here.

Glad to hear those of you further north are cooling off. So far we are still hot and humid but that should change soon.

If all goes well we'll be heading for Vermont next week. The leaves are changing already but because of the dry summer the foliage may not be as colorful as it should be.

Busy day tomorrow so I'm on my way to bed.

A late night stop in to read how EVERYFRIEND is doing.

Not much new here.  Just waiting to hear from my Endocrinologist to find out what med she is going to suggest I try next.  Yesterday when I left a message I said the wrong drug I was having problems with.  Good grief, I am feeling so inadequate these days.  I think her office is closed tomorrow, so was sad that I did not hear from her this afternoon.  We leave for Chicago on Tuesday, so not sure what I am going to do.

Welcome home, CAROL.  Glad to read that you and Don enjoyed your time in the NW.  Did you see the beautiful sunset tonight?  Also the nearly full Autum Moon?  Both spectacular.

AMY, I am sorry to read that DH was unable to continue with the MRI.  I hope there is something else that can be done.  Hugs.

BEVERLY, I had to chuckle when you said that CHAPE had to go to DeFuniac Springs for his surgery.  I think of DeF as a small area with not much going on and yet a latest technique is done there.  DeF is just north of where my Bob grew up in Panama City Beach FL.  I always loved driving along the lake looking at the home along it.

JACKIE, I am sorry the subject matter was not the best for you at your MS support group.

I can hardly keep my eyes open so will say  GOOD NIGHT to all.

Jenny, Good night to you dear. I am on late tonight, as I took a late shower and shampoo, and waiting for my hair to dry. I wear it straight now, but it has to dry more or I will wake looking like I had an electric shock. I think I must be a very restless sleeper, according to the way my bed and my hair looks in the morning. I some times wonder if all the various drugs they have on the market today, that we might well go back to the old "home" remedies. I remember that baking soda dissolved in a glass of water is what was used for stomach ailments. and salt dissolved in warm water was a gargle for sore throats. Vicks vaporub was a natural in all medicine cabinets, whether you had a cold sore, or a chest ailment.

Those were truly the "good old days".

I am going to prepare for bed, damp hair or not, I am tired. See you all in the morning my friends. Sleep peacefully, and wake happy and rested. Prayers, Love and hugs to all. June

JUNEDRABEK....
......yes, not of course that I would wish any other S & F members to suffer with MS but, I would feel more at home if I was talking to others who knew where I was coming from, understood and shared positive thoughts...I do have a good MS forum but, like most forums some topics - subjects can make one feel worse, not better, be on the depressing side, make one think of what might be to come, as this could be me further down the line, the reality factor....One thing our members do have though, is a good sense of humour, we can laugh over non MS peoples attitudes to us, along with other things.....on that basis they are good listeners, always offer support, buck one up, understand, sympathise, encourage, give some good advise, and of course follow up their day to day living experiences, as they too have other ailments such as cancer to deal with, along with the good things, such as preparing themselves for their daughters wedding...

June, I did post my MS in our medical rooms, but as expected, no one else on our forum has MS, oh yes, there will always be members who knew, or know someone with it, but as you rightly mention...it is not the same as having it and knowing what one is experiencing on a daily basis....

June sleep well, I wish you a good nights sleep...
...................................................................
Ha ha, talking of alcoholic cures of the olden days, do I say that " the olden days?.." anyway I sure remember my gran who I grew up with, having a wee shot of ( not sure whiskey or brandy ) in her cup of tea...told, purely for medicinal purposes...
Gran passed aged 81, when I was 11...

CHUCKLES

Two Boys

Two small boys, not yet old enough to be in school, were overheard talking at the zoo one day.

"My name is Billy. What's yours?" asked the first boy.

"Tommy," replied the second.

"My Daddy's an accountant. What does your Daddy do for a living?" asked Billy.

Tommy replied, "My Daddy's a lawyer."

"Honest?" asked Billy.

"No, just the regular kind," replied Tommy.

Food For Thought

His Disciples (Love One Another)
(by Steve Troxel)

One of the last commands Jesus gave was to "go and make disciples of all nations" (Matthew 28:19). The making of a disciple is the complete work of the Holy Spirit; but we are told to join in this work by teaching people to believe in the sacrifice of Jesus for the forgiveness of sin, to humbly submit control of their life into His hands, and to "obey everything I have commanded you" (Matthew 28:20).

God's Word contains the complete description of what it means to believe, submit, and obey. Jesus taught extensively on each of these issues. But the single command which will have the greatest impact on the world around us is the command to love.

John 13:34-35:
"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another."

The phrase "As I have loved you" ought to rip at our heart. Though there was nothing in us to deserve His love, Jesus gave His life. And long before He gave His physical life, He gave something even greater; He "made Himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness" (Philippians 2:7). Jesus loved enough to give up who He was for those completely unlovable; and this is the level of love we are called to demonstrate to one another.

We are called to a sacrificial love - a love that gives and considers the needs of others ahead of our own. We are called to give our time, our tears, our understanding, and even our material resources when necessary. We are called to love enough to rejoice when others rejoice, but also to hurt when others hurt, and to forgive simply because Jesus first forgave us. We are called to love!

But notice why we are called to such love. Our love for others is certainly an expression of gratitude to God and a maturing process as we grow into the likeness of Christ, but Jesus also says our love for others is the one sure way of telling the world we are followers of Christ. Our love becomes an act of worship because, through love, we are boldly declaring Jesus is Lord! As we love - even when others may not "deserve" our love - we actively show the world the joy and peace found only in Jesus.

The world is overflowing with people who need love, who have run out of hope, longing for someone to let them know they care. We are those who must care! We must reach out to one another with a love that defies all worldly wisdom and understanding. We must love as Jesus loved us. This love will be used to work miracles; this love will bring glory and honor to our Heavenly Father; this love will show the world that we are truly His disciples.

Have a Christ Centered Day!

Thought of the Day

"What we love usually manages to get into our conversation. What is down in the well of the heart will come up in the bucket of the speech."

Good morning everyone..

Another chilly morning here. Yesterday a fit of energy hit me and I washed both vehicles, pulled out two rows  of raspberry canes and tilled the garden. I iron 3 tops to go to quilting today but now I can't go. The freezer on the bottom of the fridge is acting up and I called a repair man, with hopes that he can come today.

Jenny, I hope you hear from your Dr today.

Beverly ,years ago we went to Vermont, such a beautiful place !!

Hal, only you can decide which way to go and yes they have come a long way in the procedures..just ask lots of questions to set your mind at ease.

Gloria, soon to be apple time here.I need to make some applesauce and put it down for the winter.  I enjoy it as a dessert or with roast pork.

Joan,thank you for breakfast.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning on this chilly, cloudy morning.

Sure is beginning to feel like fall.   Not really ready for it.

Nothing special going on today.  I am thinking about going back to bed. I woke up before 4 a.m. and decided to get up.  I have had some breakfast and coffee and feel a nap coming on.  I will read for a little while and then I am sure I will fall asleep.  Seems as soon s I start reading, I get so sleepy.

Joan, the little mini-muffins sound good.  Hope you have a good day.

Good morning Amy.  You sure did a lot of w--- yesterday.  Too bad you can't go to quilting because your fridge/freezer is acting up.  Hopefully the repairman can come today and fix it without breaking the bank.

Lloyd--Good morning.  Hope that new garden hose does the job.

Good morning, Janie.

Joy--Good morning.  Seems you went from hot weather to chilly weather in the wink of an eye.  If I lie down to read, I fall asleep fast.  If I want to do some serious reading, I have to be sitting up.

I'm the same way about reading and it annoys me.  I finally received the latest book by a favorite author and I was really looking forward to reading it.  I can manage a few pages....very few....and I'm asleep.  I wish my attention span would last a little longer.

Cloudy here this morning but probably won't get any rain.  It is staying mostly out on the Outer Banks or "down East" in the Wilmington (NC) area.

Time for breakfast.  Make it a good day, everyone.

Good Morning Everyone,  from the cool,
clear, rocky coast of Maine.     It is beginning to feel more
like Fall here.    Right now I am just using my
fans  with out the AC on.   In just a couple more
weeks they will be pulling out the Window AC for
the Winter...      (Yikes!) ..

I am still working closely with Google "Project Fi",
which is my smart phone.     We are trying to get
the Caller ID issue,  which is still in limbo.
Otherwise I live my phone and sure am learning
a lot about how things work.

I think that I will hop a bus down to the
Grocery Store today.   Because of inspections,
Kelly and I didn't get our day out this week.
So I  off  to catch the bus.

Have a good day,  Everyone.

Hi everyone on a beautiful Friday morning.  We have a zero chance of rain today.  I plan on staying home today, the first day all week and I am looking forward to it.  No major cooking will be needed today as we have the beef roast and when I made the salad last night I had a big bowl of it left so won't have to do that.  Pat has the balsamic mushrooms also that I made a couple of days ago that she hasn't eaten yet.  I have some work to do here at my desk and that will be it.

On my last visit to COSTCO I bought two new king size pillows.  We started using them a couple of night ago and we both like them.  So Pat will be ordering some king size pillow cases.  Right now we are using two regular size pillow cases on each one, which works but looks rather strange.

They are in the process of delivering the Hardy Plank siding for the new house across the street and the crew is already on site to start putting it on.  This house has really gone up quickly.

Thank you all for your continued expressions of concern for Pat and for your prayers for her.  She is half-way through with the intensive Chiropractic treatments and was told at the beginning at about this point she will have a plateau level and she thinks she has reached it.  Hopefully soon she will see more progress.

Gloria, Google Chrome has been my browser of choice for several years.  I occasionally try another one but always return to Chrome.  Sure wish you could get your pain under control.  I am one of those people who really don't like milk alone probably due to having grown up on a dairy farm.

Jackie, glad you felt up to getting out for a walk yesterday but sorry to see your situation didn't last for you.

Hal, I hope the shots will avoid you needing surgery.

Beverly, will you be flying to Vermont or driving?

Joan, another really good Food for Thought.  I have copied it and will put it in my file of devotional material for my Sunday School class.

Amy, I read all you did yesterday and it was exhausting.  I almost had to go take a nap!  :)  Sorry you have to miss your quilting.

Gloria, I didn't forget that you asked about the antenna I bought... Mohu HD TV Antenna (Value 2 pk.)   $49.88 .... just been working non-stop (shhhh, don't gell Joan, no more demerits!)  what I bought at Sam's Club, I'm pretty sure I paid more than that when I bought.  I can't tell the difference between the larger one in the box versus the small one.  I used the little pins that come in the package to attach to the wall as high as possible & had to change directions to see where the best signal came from.  In the end, they attached whatever direction the wall was.  I am perfectly satisfied with my reception but does have problems in some weather.  I get the local stations & all they have to offer plus my favorite of ME TV & MY TV & ION (that has all day & evening of Blue Bloods on Thursday).  Cable is costly here so I broke even the first month (paying for the antennas -cable) & I am completely satisfied.  I see others advertised on TV for $10 but don't know anything about them.  I do get better reception in the RV in my driveway but that antenna is higher than in the house & a different brand. (I don't know what it is).  If you decided to go that route you can go online to Huffpost TV guide for your area and click on "over the air" instead of cable.... and have TV guide for free.  I think I get about 40-50 stations but NOT all the time and not always without problems.  The local stations are fine as well as ME TV & ION for some times of day/evening/night.... when I don't like what's on the rest.  I did need to buy a new digital recorder since my other was about 10 years out of date.... so I can tape & watch when I want.  I like the old Westerns & have enjoyed a lot more than I could get on cable.

Good morning to all.  Have T-storms going on right now & still nice & cool.  Planned to vac the pool but one excuse is as good as another for being lazy.  I over did yesterday & got a lot accomplished so will R & R today.

Good morning everyone, It was quite cool last night, had to get out of bed and get the blanket I neglected to put on the bed. Finally got comfy and slept late this morning. Of course my window was wide open letting all that nice cool air in.

JUNE  my daughter is smarter and wiser than I ever was.

HAL  looks like you have the right doctors to work on your back.

BEVERLY  on the TV here they are saying no beautiful foliage expected here this year because of the drought conditions. A few trees here are starting to show a little color  but RI is later than Vermont for the colors. Have a safe trip and enjoy seeing family.

JOAN  one of those cannot make up my mind what mini muffin I want. Thank you for today's goodies.

AMY  looks like I will not be making applesauce this year. Only made 2 batches of it last year, not much place to put it in the freezer of the fridge here.

JOY  going back to bed sounds good to me this morning, even with bright sun shining.

LARRY  after starting out with IE and using it for so long I had a hard time getting used to Google but getting to like it.

SHIRLEY  thank you for the information. I see the ones on TV and a few in the weekly fliers we get in the mail. Really inexpensive and that alone makes me wonder if they are any good. Will check it out. Only thing with me is attaching anything to the walls. So many things we cannot do according to the rules.

Good Morning Everyone!

Boy I really am "tail end charlie" this morning.  I slept in until 8:30 and wife had beaten me up by a long time and had my coffee and a waffle (frozen) and read over the paper, same old nickels and dimes.  It was certainly nice to take my time and do as I pleased this morning and have nothing special planned.

Amy, Beverly thanks for your comments on the back problems.  I intend to give surgery much thought and weigh things on different factors.  And like the doctor said nothing is going to happen until he gets a complete medical clearance from everyone.

Lloyd nice to hear you are still (still think you should have just dug a new ditch) on cleaning out the conduit.  ;)

Well back for another cup of coffee.

Amy, you truly did get a burst of energy yesterday…I can remember when I could do the same thing..one after another, and it made me feel so good when things were accomplished. Now I watch others here do the work. My housekeeper was in shortly after seven this morning to put fresh linens on my bed and in my bathroom. She will return later to scrub up everything in the bathroom. This is done weekly, and next week it will be what she calls "deep cleaning" where she does the weekly chore, plus vacuuming and dusting the whole apt., even the pictures on the wall. I usually disappear on those days, and let her work. And I always get a weekly hug when she comes into do her work. Plus more hugs if we meet in the hallway. She is a jewel.

Good Morning back attcha Ms. Janie !!!!!!

Bis, Is this brilliant lawyer daughter the mother of the former skaters, or is that the other daughter. ? From what I recall the girls have completely opposite personalities, and you son is the one that was with you during your very serious illness. Bis, reading in bed also puts me to sleep.

Tisie, it is good to take a day off now and then. Life passes us by too quickly, so day of R&R should be essential for us. And you are an exceptionally busy, busy girl.

Gloria, I too didn't want to get started this morning, in fact, I just now finished a bowl of rice krispies with sliced banana, and still in my robe and night gown. And it is after nine o'clock. There is a program downstairs at 10 o'clock that I want to attend, so I had better get off this computer and get dressed !!!

A good Friday morning to EVERYFRIEND.

MY Bob was out bright and early this AM with hope of buying one of the new iPhones......no luck! He has one on order, but thought just maybe he could get one today.

Thank you, JOAN, for all the goodies today.

AMY, so far nary a word from the doctor and sadly, I think her office is closed today. Nothing I can do. My goodness, the way you go at each and everyday I could hardly imagine you could possibly have a burst of energy more than you normally have.  I sure wish you luck with getting the freezer up and running.

LARRY, nice that you can stay home today and that you will not have to cook from scratched. Leftovers are great!  Wow, they really are going to town on the new home across from you.

HAL, obviously your body needed a bit of catch up rest.  Glad your day is going to be an easy one as well.

I am definitely part of the fall asleep group when it comes to reading...my hubby is just the opposite.  He can read for hours!

No big plan for the day......just hoping to get a few needed things done around here.

Hope your day has gone well, JACKIE.  How blessed this group is to not have any of us effected with MS.....so sorry for you.  I totally understand what you are saying in that we have no first hand knowledge of this awful disease.....and just knowing one that does is not the same...same with individuals going through chemo or radiation....we just know it is AWFUL?  HUGS to you.

Have a good one....

Good morning from a fog-shrouded, misty Interior, I'm hoping everyone is doing well and enjoying their day!

That allergy I was upset about last Friday has turned into a sinus cold, so I am hibernating this week.

Hal, I have had friends who received those shots and some worked and some did not. But, as you say, times and experience change. My daughter was born at Brooke Army Hospital in San Antonio, and my husband was sent there after messing up his back in Vietnam.

That was back in the late sixties and early seventies, so it was a time ago. I think you once mentioned that this was a clinic near the hospital? Or perhaps I do not remember correctly.

I have the opposite problem as I will stay up all night to finish an engrossing book so try to avoid reading or starting one late.
However, listening to an audio book at any time will lull me directly to sleep! We can be so different from one another!

June--Housekeeping there sure takes good care of you and your place.  Yes, Linda that visited is the mother of the skaters.  They don't skate anymore.   Grant is an attorney in Atlanta and Audrey is a Doctor of Pharmacy in Seattle.  My other daughter in NY is totally different than Linda.  And yes, son Joe has been here all three times I was in the hospital.

Jenny--I still have one of the older generation iPhones, and guess that will have to do for now.  Too bad you couldn't get in touch with your doctor.

Angelface--Sorry the allergy turned into a sinus cold.  They are miserable.

Yep, Patricia, I will stay awake all night and can't think of anything else when I start a book, no reading to go to sleep for me.  I hated to tell the world, thought I was the only one that can't put a book down.  Since I am on my R & R today I'm thinking about going to Taco Bell for carry out.  I love the new spicy tostadas & can eat a couple of them and 2 crunchy tacos without any trouble.  Sure a lot easier than making from scratch~ My last sinus infection I took the "Zpac".... twice, since it was a doozie.

Joan, lazy day today makes up for all that w**k yesterday, right?  I have a niece that is a Doctor of Geriatric Pharmacy that lives in NC.  My daughter originally planned to go to Pharmacy School but the high school counselor told her "she wasn't suited...", even though she had a straight A average, he judged her as a cheerleader & drill team captain.... So she went into engineering & got her BS & Masters in Electrical.  Girls today can be anything they want if they are are given the same opportunity as our sons.

Shirley, what is a Zpak? I haven't heard of that. I did go out for sinus medication the other day, but a red car ran before the bus driver, causing the driver to stand on her brakes and people fell onto the floor, so I'm hibernating the rest of the sinus duration.

The Dayquil, Night quil," combo is keeping me sleeping more often than not anyway.

YIPPEE..... Doctors office just called and I have a script waiting for me at Sam's Club.  It is a pill and I am thinking it is even going to be a reasonably priced one.  I am so happy to give this one a try.

Youngest son is picking up a new little doggie today and we are SO excited.  It is crazy to say, but he had to fly from Austin to Houston, then changed planes and on to Portland OR.  This doggie is coming from the same breeder that Dr. Dave's dog came from.  They are beautiful dogs...Australian Labradoodle's.  No shedding.  Hypoallergenic. Cute, cute, cute!  we are so excited for them.  This one is a male and is chocolate in color.  Lola, a girl is the one here and she is a light cream color.

I think this will be the closest little one that I can expect from this couple!

Have a great day.

Patricia, believe me when I say the new BMAC is much different than the old BMAC,
your old does not even exist anymore.  https://www.google.com/search?q=sammc&tbm=isch&imgil=VfD8DtKheFgCBM%253BAAAAAAAAAAABAM%253Bhttps%25253A%25252F%25252Fwww.clarkconstruction.com%25252Four-work%25252Fprojects%25252Fbrooke-army-medical-center&source=iu&pf=m&fir=VfD8DtKheFgCBM%252CAAAAAAAAAAABAM%252C_&usg=__GOUdmOsKqWXewkte3_A4OnZupB0%3D&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjX4IbmzpTPAhXs44MKHa76DfoQuqIBCHUwCg&biw=1056&bih=419&imgrc=4MR_2A_7HzOO1M (https://www.google.com/search?q=sammc&tbm=isch&imgil=VfD8DtKheFgCBM%253BAAAAAAAAAAABAM%253Bhttps%25253A%25252F%25252Fwww.clarkconstruction.com%25252Four-work%25252Fprojects%25252Fbrooke-army-medical-center&source=iu&pf=m&fir=VfD8DtKheFgCBM%252CAAAAAAAAAAABAM%252C_&usg=__GOUdmOsKqWXewkte3_A4OnZupB0%3D&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjX4IbmzpTPAhXs44MKHa76DfoQuqIBCHUwCg&biw=1056&bih=419&imgrc=4MR_2A_7HzOO1M)

I don't know how they designed it, but inside this new hospital they have a central area that reaches to the top and it is quite as can be.  No echo's whatsoever.  All the clinic's are like going into a mall, open fronted and very attractive.  You would not believe their Mess hall.  I thought I was in a swanky cafeteria, you name it and you can find it one of the many food courts.  I have had several appointments in a couple of their clinics and I would have to say that the personnel and service exceeded any civilian clinic.  If you wonder if I was/am impressed: Yep, I am!

Lackland, Wilford Hall, is building out all new clinics, which are actually larger than the old Wilford Hall hospital.  I hope to live to see it finished and running and I want to see the old hospital implode.  I was active duty, stationed at Security Service when it opened.  Strangely, this was/is the largest Air Force hospital and took patients from all over the world, along with some well known heads of state as patients.  The Shaw of Iran was treated there for cancer.  And the wizards of smart in D.C. decided that it could be combined with BMAC and all medical personnel from all services could be trained here.  So you never know if you will have a Army/Navy/Air Force/civilian doctor.  And like I said the so called new clinics at Lackland are larger than the old hospital.  But they claim that no beds are included, hard to believe, since every recruit coming into the Air Force is trained at Lackland.  (Gateway to the Air Force).

Hal, you're right in that I wouldn't recognize the place after 40 odd years!

I have an odd story to tell about my daughter's birth back in 12/12/72. I was walking to the hospital, (No cash for cabs at that time.);  when a group of guys started whistling and making come-ons as I walked by. Then one of them said, "Stop, she's PG!" to the others and then came over and asked if I was alright. I said no, I was having the baby and I swear his face whitened.

He had me sit on the curb while another one took off in his car. Soon, some MPs came up and took me to the hospital. When I wrote my husband about it, he was furious, saying they were robbers, killers or something. I replied, maybe and perhaps I was naive as he said, but those  guys went and found some MPs and waited with me until they came. I was in no shape at that time to be discriminatory.

Bis,it's strange how our children can be raised in the same manner, and when they become adults their personalities can be the opposite. I recall that it hurt you that you could not share your new grandchild's picture with us, when Joe and his wife were so eager for allowing us all to see the changes taking place with Finlay. My Dan and Gary were raised the same way, but their personalities are directly opposite as adults. What really thrills me is that each of them married girls of the same style of life as their own. Nancy and Dori are completely suited to my sons, and yet all four of them get all famously. I feel so blessed. And I am so delighted that Joe has married a girl that has enough self-assurance that she is willing to let him attend to his mother in emergencies. Wonderful couple.

Hal, it appears that Military hospitals have really progressed from what they used to be, and that makes me happy. Our service men deserve the very best. I heard some sad tales about military hospitals years ago.

Patricia, I pray your sinus infection imporves in a hurry. I had one in my  early teens, and the doctor prescribed an asprin. My mother had the wisdom to place hot towels on my face, and everything broke loose, and I had complete relief.

June, that sounds wonderful, but I have them dried out and blocked. I swear I can feel the ones that run across the sides & back of the head and they feel sore and like rocks. I hope the dayquil and nightquil are doing their jobs as I do not want to head to a doctor and pay out cash for meds that probably won't work anyway!

I have known identical twins that were totally different in personality and manner. One set were an introvert and an extrovert while the other set were very sports minded with the other very girly and not into sweating, thank you very much!

CHUCKLES

The Boat Ride

I am a member of that nearly extinct generation of Americans which actually thinks it possible to enjoy a vacation without hours and hours of cable television. I believe that a lake can be fun even if you don't rent jet skis and blast around at high speed, and when I come up with a list of exciting things to do on a trip, "go to the mall" is not likely to be on it, even if they do have factory-outlet stores.

Because of my antediluvian attitude, I have forced my children to suffer through several "horrible vacations," including one just this summer in which my younger teenage daughter "almost drowned."

She didn't almost anything. I took her out in a rowboat by promising her an opportunity for one-on-one quality time with her father, during which the two of us could talk intimately about anything she wanted and then I would pay her twenty dollars.

I know it sounds as if I were bribing her to spend time with me, but in my view, she was going to get the money out of me anyway, "borrowing" it so that she could go shopping later. This loan would join all the others in a non-interest-bearing note which even Enron's accountants would have ethical trouble calling an asset.

Okay, maybe not "ethical" trouble.

At any rate, we rowed along for awhile, enjoying a silence disturbed only by the occasional gurgle when my oar dipped into the water. Then she took me up on my offer to discuss anything she had on her mind, which turned out to be
this:

"Can we go back now?"

"We've only been out for five minutes; let's drift for a bit," I suggested.

"I can't believe this boat doesn't have a motor."

"I don't mind rowing. Do you want to try it? It's a lot of fun," I offered seductively.

"No."

"I brought a rod; do you want to try to catch a fish?"

"No."

"What do you want to do?"

"Go back."

"Wouldn't you rather be out here on the lake?"

"No."

It was, I reflected, one of our more pleasant conversations.

"Dad, what's with the water?" She pointed at my feet.

I frowned. A steadily growing pool of water was forming on the bottom of the boat. As a sailor of considerable experience, I immediately recognized we were in the nautical condition known as "sinking."

"The plug fell out," I noted.

"Oh my God!" my daughter shrieked.

"Don't be afraid. We won't drown," I assured her.

"These are new shoes!"

"Just put on a life vest." I held one out to her.

She glanced at it disdainfully. "Could they pick a more hideous color?"

"I'll get us back to the dock." I began heaving on the oars, but the boat had gained considerable weight and responded sluggishly. Not wanting my daughter to panic, I decided to distract her with a question. "Well, we seem to be taking on about a gallon a minute. With every gallon, our speed slows down by about one percent. Our current rate of travel is around a foot a second, and we have a hundred yards to go. How long will it take us to get to shore?"

Her eyes bulged. "The boat is sinking and you want me to do math?

"It's an interesting problem, don't you think?"

"You're making me nauseated."

"You could take that coffee can and bail."

She gingerly picked up a rusting can. "It has dirt in it."

"Right, that's where they keep the earthworms."

She dropped the can. "Ew!"

"But if you bailed a quart of water every ten seconds..."

"If a boat were sinking an inch a minute, how long would it take my dad to realize he's a complete dork?" she wondered out loud.

We didn't sink, but by the time I got us to shore a considerable amount of lake had joined us in the boat. Our pants were soaked, and my daughter couldn't wait to tell her siblings that in the midst of drowning, I insisted on torturing her with algebra.

Also, her shoes were "ruined," so the twenty dollars I gave her would go toward a replacement pair.

She borrowed the rest.

Food For Thought

Gone Fishing
(By Kirk Cameron)

For years, I have been witnessing on camera (for "The Way of the Master" television program) to hundreds on the streets, in malls, in shopping centers, on planes, and in taxis. I've preached to thousands in churches, universities, and outreaches, but I've never had the courage to find a "fishing hole" in my own neighborhood and go there on a regular basis.

I decided it was time. I scouted out my territory and asked the local police station where teenagers hung out on a Saturday night. The "Westlake Promenade" (a local outdoor shopping center) turned out to be perfect--hundreds of high schoolers with nothing to do but stand around and hope for something exciting to happen.

It was a Friday night, 9:30pm. I loaded up with tracts and went out alone. I was very nervous. No cameras, no help, no encouragement from my friends. I got talking to a group of junior high kids and brought out the "Light Show" followed by a few trivia questions for them to win a bit of Christmas cash ($1 for each correct answer). As I swung to the subject of God, a little Indian Buddhist girl stepped forward and said "So this is what you do now? You give people money so they'll stand here so you can brainwash them?!" I felt sick. She might as well have said "You're pathetic. I used to like you on TV, but not anymore because you're bribing people to listen to your religious garbage." I swallowed my pride for about 10 more minutes before I packed it in and went home, licking my wounds. I felt terrible, as my fears got the best of me that night.

I was determined not to be defeated by a shrimpy little girl, so I went back the next night. Ray offered to come with me. This time it was electric! Totally different and incredibly effective. I learned so much that night about being bold, unashamed, and straight forward in my approach. It made all the difference. About 20 teenagers soaked up everything we had to say, took our literature, and thanked us for talking with them about eternity. I left with evangelistic goose bumps.

The next weekend I was back. Alone again. Shared the gospel with about 15 more high schoolers getting out of a movie. They loved it--Million Dollar Bills, trivia, and the Million Dollar Question: "Do you consider yourself to be a good person?" Great debates, spirited conversations, took them through the Law to the cross and they all took some "Save Yourself Some Pain" booklets! I left clicking my heels with gratitude for the seeds sown that night.

The next weekend I returned to the same spot with my pastor. In my car we read Spurgeon's evening devotional:

...Jesus died for sinners, cannot we live for them? Where is our tenderness? Where our love to Christ, if we seek not His honour in the salvation of men? O that the Lord would saturate us through and through with an undying zeal for the souls of men.

Thoroughly inspired, we talked to one group in the parking lot, two groups in front of the theatre, and then... I panicked. In the distance I could see that little Indian Buddhist girl standing on a bench in front of her friends. I ducked behind a tree, but it was too late. She spotted me, ran up and threw her arms around me and yelled in a mocking voice, "Oh Kirk Cameron, where's my free Bible? I want a free Bible!" After shaking off this little distraction (obviously a demonic dart to discourage me again), Johnny and I shared with another group and prayed with a young man to receive the Lord.

I am so thankful for the encouragement I've received to press on, get back into the game, and never give up for the sake of the lost. I've now found my own local fishing hole and I plan to be there every weekend I'm in town. How about you? Do you have an hour to spare one night a week for the sake of the lost in your neighborhood? Find out where the fish congregate and go to them. May God bless you and help you bring in a big one as you faithfully serve Him.

Thought of the Day

If we spread the Gospel, Jesus will spread the salvation!

Good morning everyone.
warmer here this morning with a temp of 50°.

Laundry day and I hope to hang it out although they are calling to t storms, will have to wait till it gets light out to see if yes or no . A trip to the dump to take all the raspberry canes, I even tried to give them away but no one wanted them! I just wish I had a larger garden but then that is more to look after.

Talked with the repair shop re: my fridge/freezer and I may have left the bottom open just a crack and that was why it froze up , seems fine now and I cleaned out the fridge part and washed everything down so I hope that was the problem.

Jenny, I love puppies and puppy breath!! Hope you can post photos of this little one.

June, I am so happy that you get such good care there...but I do think your what I would call an easy keeper :smitten:

Shirley, like you I too would stay away if I have my nose in a good book. or putting a puzzle together but those days are long gone now.

Gloria, I put my applesauce is sealers and it keeps very well. Just sterilize the sealers and put the hot applesauce in and seal.

Joan, thank you for breakfast.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning everyone, it was another good sleeping night, cool as the one before but with the humidity down and no noisy AC or fan running it was AOK.

HAL  I am not looking for back surgery either but would like to ease what stops me from standing upright again and being able to lesson the pain.

JOAN  I am enjoying these cooler days and nights. Feels good to have more than a sheet covering me a night.

JUNE  lately it seems to get later every morning before I finally dress up for the day. Have my fleece robe on in these cool morning and it is warm and comfy.

JENNY  I am still trying to learn the iPhone I have and not interested in a new one. I saw on TV how fast the new ones sold out.

PATRICIA  I have started a book that I just cannot put down and have been up all night to finish it. Other times a book will not catch my interest that much so it is easy to put down and pick up the next time I feel like reading.

SHIRLEY  my daughter always wanted to be a teacher but a counselor in her senior year in High School told her she would not be good at it. She always had good marks and was on the honor roll all through school. She did end up teaching at the school where she started as yard duty. She was picked by the principal for a new program to teach those having trouble with reading. She was telling me a couple of days ago that she went to the school with a few things she wanted to donate and she was telling me that when the kids saw her they went running to her and asking if she was coming back. They did not care for her replacement, said she hollers all the time.  Made her feel good to know the kids missed her.

JENNY  hope the new med helps and you have no adverse reactions.

HAL  wow that BMAC is a huge place. I would not want to try finding my way around in there.

JOAN  love waffles and who can say no to bacon? The Boat Ride had me laughing. Just like most kids these days,  they rather go to a mall instead of enjoying nature. Thank you for all today's goodies.

AMY  I no longer have canning jars and it is easier for me to freeze the applesauce I make.

JANE good morning.

Hi everyone on a beautiful and clear South Carolina Saturday morning.  It is a very pleasant 72 degrees, or was when I was outside watering my plants.  We are suppose to get to only the mid 80's today.

I had an enjoyable and laid back day yesterday and the car didn't leave the garage.  As far as I know now that will be the same today.  I got my desk cleared away yesterday so will have a light schedule for the football Saturday.

Shirley, I expect more and more people will decide to go with the HD TV Antenna and cut out the expensive cable.  Glad you are satisfied with your decision to switch.  We are not ready to do that yet and doubt that we will as Pat spends a lot of time watching the Hallmark channels and I enjoy the variety of sports available although could watch them on my iPad or iPhone.

Hal, it sounds like we both had similar days yesterday with not being pushed to make appointment and having to so somewhere.  I looked at the pictures and enjoyed your descriptions of the military clinics and hospitals.

Jenny, I heard yesterday that the iPhone 7's were sold out and even some who pre-ordered will have a delay as the demand was so great.  Apple has sold over 1 billion iPhone since it came out.  I will not be upgrading to the iPhone 7 but do have the new operating system downloaded to my iPhone 6.  I don't normally fall asleep when reading but sure can listening to audiobooks and see that Patricia has the same experience with the audiobooks.  I spend about as much time backing them up to something I remember as I do listening to new parts. Glad you heard from your doctor before you start your trip.  I hope the pill does the job and is reasonable in price.

Joan, most sons hold mother's in a special place in their hearts.  I am glad that Joe can be there for you when you need him.

June, I agree that our service men and women do deserve the best care and our deepest regards for their service.

Gloria, what a nice compliment for your daughter in that the kids would like to see her come back to teach.

I hope all will have a nice weekend.

Good morning, Larry.  I am sure it seems good to have a couple days when you can stay home.  I'll have to "channel chase" today and tomorrow to find something to watch other than football.  Joe, Kate and Finlay flew to Boston this weekend to go to some baseball and football games--I forget which ones.

Good Afternoon,  Everyone...

Have any of you done research on the
the HD TV Antennas  ....   If so,  which one (s)
do you recommend?

I am always considering opting out of cable tv,
so I just may get myself preparred to do so.
Sure would save me a lot of money each year/month.

Thanks for your recommendation.

My son sells and services TV and has done so most of his life.  As soon as he was big enough to hold up his end of a TV or appliance for delivery, he's worked at the store.  He now owns and runs the business himself.  I asked him if one of those antennas would work for me and his answer was an unequivocal "NO".  Our reception on antenna in this area was never good and I'm assuming that we would not get good reception on any type of antenna.  I did ask him later if they would work other places.  He said they probably would but we would have the same interference that we always did with antenna....mountains and distance from any broadcast stations.

I'm not sitting here and putting myself forth as an expert on the subject and if you choose not to read this or not to believe it, that's your business.  I'm telling you what I was told. Take or not...as you wish!

Good Morning all, This is starting out to be a rather unusual day as far as my mind is concerned. It does not want to wake up   . I have the urge to go back to bed and just let the world pass by. Instead I have poured another cup of coffee and made a slice of toast.

Janie, I wish you well this day. I feel something is bothering you, and I pray God is giving you all that is needed to carry on and do what you have to do. You are not alone. We all love you.

Gloria, this is one of those days where I don't care if I dress or not. Nothing outside my door is that important. I am home, I am secure, I am not ill, I suffer no pain, God is Good. So I will just go with the flow. I do wish your back pain could be controlled. A constant nagging pain can really drag one down. I am keeping you in my prayers. Regina was like a second mother to most of those children Gloria, and a good substitute Mother she was. She spent many hours with them and caring for them.

Larry, I am so happy that you are having a few days of relaxation at home. You have earned it, for sure.

I have nothing on the docket for today, unless I decide to go down for a program at 6:30 this evening. I may just make my bed and lie down on it to read and sleep. Sounds just right to me

My son in New Jersey informed me those antennae being advertised on TV come in several models and strengths, and the distance from the transmitter is important.  The least expensive apparently is supposed to reach something like 20 miles, but although he is only 10 miles from the transmitter he had to work up to a 40 mile antenna, somewhat more expensive, in order to get service.  But once he got the proper size everything is fine and still much, much less expensive than cable.

Sandy, I think/thought what I bought is/are HD (ended up with 4 for different TVs although someone brighter than I am would know how to make one antenna work for all) .....  If you want any of the "talk" type shows, I don't get them here.  I love having Dick Van Dyke in Diagnosis Murder & all the old westerns, plus Gilligan's Island, etc.. and the local channels including PBS.  I get news & whatever shows carried by CBS, NBC & ABC so have not missed sports or political talk shows.

Check with people in your zip code to see what they get, I'm happy with mine & am surprised & delighted in various weather conditions, to be surfing & find a show I wasn't looking for (like a movie).  I did have to buy a new tape recorder since mine was so old & not digital or HD..... the kid (younger than 70) at Sam's convinced me to get the one I did, said his wife installed theirs.  When my son checked it out AFTER I bought, all of his retired engineer friends said this is what they got but there is one (brand in my RV) that is a tad better.  Since I wanted more than one TV attached I thought I got a good deal with the "2-pack" and can't tell the difference between the larger (supposed to pull in from more miles) than the smaller.  I even brought a wooden drape rod up from storage thinking it would be nice to attach to that & be able to turn.... the PBS station comes from a different angle than most of the others.  But I never followed up trying since I found it wasn't as tall as the ceiling & I didn't have any way to hold it up.  Would have been nice to have a large umbrella holder to stand it in but got rid of that long ago.   ::)

A lot depends on your area, what comes in..... comes with little "push pins" to attach to the wall and cord to reach to the TV, plugs in where you take the cable plug out.  I did discover last time at the lake camping that I did not get near as many channels at the water level as I did when camping on the higher part of the campground other times.

Larry, one reason I was disgusted with cable was they put the Hallmark channel on a different level to charge extra.  We did have the "higher tier" package & had golf, sports.... but after Cas died I dropped sports & was still $75-$85 per month with having package TV, internet & phones.  Think I have my numbers wrong because I was paying over $175 per month & was going up again.   I now pay about $60 for phones & internet.  I have unlimited but not the fastest.  Tried the fastest but couldn't tell the difference since my computers are so over full & slow.  Phone service comes with everything & unlimited long distance so satisfied with my choices.  I rarely just sit & watch TV, am either cooking, eating, doing house work, ironing or on the computer.... have one on most of the time for background noise, just enough sound that breaking news will get my attention.  In the RV or house if nothing worth watching, I can put a DVD movie or shows (daughter gave me a set of Murder She Wrote).... RV has 2 TVs & DVD players but only the one in the house so have to stay in one room for that.

Jane, you are so right about mountain interference!  Forgot to mention that when in CO I don't get ANY radio or TV.  That's why I did advise to check with someone in the same area to see what works.  When I'm in MO the Ozark Mts are not so tall and I am about 75 miles from KC and 100+ from St.Louis & can get them in, their strongest, I guess. Your son is right to know your area.  My son loaned his extra antenna to a friend living in the country to see if they could get anything.... sadly, so many times his friends neglect to return what they borrow.  He put one in his attic.... something special and I'm not about to switch 'cause I don't care that much about doing all the different things he can with his.  Like you, I don't know what I'm talking about, just what works for me!!!

June--Guess you are just having a stay home day.

Jeanne Lee--All this info boggles my mind.

Shirley--As I told Jeanne, I don't see any need to change what I have when I don't understand it all.  I pay $169/mo. for cable TV, phone and internet.  No choices here--my provider is only one servicing this area.

Good afternoon on this beautiful cool Saturday.  Thursday went to Red Hat luncheon out in Greenport, near the end of the Island.  We eat in the Soundview Rest. and it was clear enough to see over to Conn. Over 50 attened.  We had ice crepes. covered in strawberries.

Gloria it was very cool here last night also, infact I got up and got another cover for the bed

Jenny, glad you were able to get a call back from the doctor, and got your pills.  Have a nice trip.

I am waiting for Jennnie to come out to day, she is the one who use to do my house cleaning.  We are invited across the street for the last cookout for the season.  I hope I can make it as my back and legs are really hurting, by nightfall I am in bad shape.

I guess I will have to stay with cable, as I am over 100 miles from NYC, could get come Conn. station I guess.  Like joan, really no choise.

The way I'm tucked into the foothills of the mountains, I figure I'm best with cable.

I have not, by choice, had a television since 1997. I tried trials of Hulu and Netflix but ended them early when I realized I wasn't even interested in the trials.

I don't have any idea of cable costs here, but I used to brag that everything was free on the computer. And now the networks have gotten wise and began to charge for their shows. If I only wanted to watch one or two shows and do not want a TV or computer TV hookup, why in the heck would I pay $9.99 a month for CBS, NBC, or ABC?

All I need do is catch the computer news, and they run the highlights there. I have never watched any reality show, but why are they even featured and considered newsworthy? At the hairdressers' I saw a magazine saying the Kardashians' show was canceled and their empire crumbling. I was so happy until I realized it was a gossip rag!

Alaska is very high in everything. I pay $73.03 monthly for the internet alone.  I do have a midrange speed.

Welllll, out here in the flatland we can almost shout from one hump in the ground to 'nuther.   :crazy2:

Joan, we do have other choices, my best friend & #1 son used one that started out being good service but son got disgusted with prices going up & up and friend doesn't have a clue what it costs 'cause "her husband pays the bills".  A few neighbors use "the Dish" or whatever that's called.... must like it or they'd change.  One of those times of "whatever floats your boat" (where did I hear that??)  We all make choices of what we are willing to spend on, and I do spend~

For what my cable cost after Cas died, no golf or sports, no Hallmark or movie channels... just the basics, I now get more of what I like for nothing.  Patricia, I never tried Hulu or Netflix & start my day with radio.  I've never watched any of those reality shows much less the Kardashians, and if those political talk people were half as smart as they think they are, they'd be rich & not need to work for a living.

I feel a nap coming on..... had a lot of cat company last night, door open so they checked on me until I closed it about 4:00 am.   Y'all behave, you hear?

Linedancer--It's nice you can get to Red Hats.  Enjoy the cookout.

Jeanne Lee--For now I am sticking with cable.

Angelface--Having a TV is another "whatever floats your boat".

Shirley--Just as long as you are satisfied with what you have.  I already had my 1/2 hour nap.

A good Saturday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND.

BEAUTIFUL day here in the Mile High City.  Football is on so hubby is in seventh heaven.  I have been on the iPhone most of the morning watching my new little Granddoggie winging his way across the sky.  We are using DUO and it is crazy that Brian can be on a flight showing me a live picture of lil' Oliver.  He has been a perfect flyer....wakes up and wiggles a little, then back to sleep.  They have less than 30 minutes left so they have it made.

Last night we were watching him in the hotel room as he played by a mirror on the floor level.. He was having the best time.  Oh my, we will not get to see him for a month.  Can not wait!

THANK YOU, JOAN.  LOVED your goodies today.  Hope Joe and Family have a fun weekend.  My oldest is at the Notre Dam Game today in So. Bend, IN.

GLORIA de, so happy to read you were able to go and enjoy your Red Hat outing.  Will start the new pills tonight...sure hope they do a good job and agree with me.😊

GLORIA & LARRY, Bob is still using a 4S iPhone, so is really due for a new one.  The price of them is just ridiculous.  Had to believe that many people have a extra grand just hanging around, isn't it?  Thank you both for your comments regarding the new med....I will start it tonight....sure hope it works well.  The price sure is right...$4. for a month supply and when I do it by mail order it will probably be free!  Sure is a switch from the "new" Meds she wants me to take for $400. a month through mail order.

AMY, the plane has landed safely so Oliver and daddy will be headed home.  He sure did well on the flight....I, too, love puppy breath.  I can not wait to see him....he is a chocolate brown with the softest hair.....love him and I haven't even seen him yet.  We will go to Austin in a month and will take care of him for a few days as mama and daddy have to go away.

HAL, I saw that sink hole on the news last night...YIKES!

Hope you made it safely to Indy, MARYANN.  ENJOY.

WHERE ARE YOU, JACKIE.

Enjoy your day, EVERYFRIEND.

Jenny

I never did get dressed today. It turned into a not feeling so good day. Nothing special, just very very tired, so I rested, rested, rested. Finished my present book and started another. Feeling a bit better after a nice long nap..hope I sleep tonight.

Nothing more to add to my boring day, so I will say goodnight, God Bless and keep well and happy.. June
