Carol

Our son who fell off the ladder is going to stay home with his computer and phone - we will check on him if any needs.  In an instant, your life can change and we are breathing a sigh of relief.

I slept in the basement bedroom - it is a walk-out with a nice view of the open fence where all the wildlife prance around.  Coyotes have a den there every year - squirrels, raccoons, deer, plus a ton of rabbits.  Don has a cold and with the cough, etc. I slept really well last night and late too.

Larry:  It is so good to learn that Pat is getting better.  Did she get the steak?

JoanFL

Good morning, halkel.  My house keepers take care of washing the windows.

Vanilla-Jackie--I had special design lead windows on my house in Arkansas and they were difficult to wash.

Good morning, Mary Ann.  I like my poached egg similar to yours but don't butter the toast.  I am glad you didn't get seriously hurt when you fell.  Enjoy your lunch in Milroy.

Larry--Good morning.  I'm happy to hear that Pat is slowly improving.  You sure fix nice meals for Pat.

Good morning, Carol.  Good for your son to stay home.  My husband fell off a tall ladder in Arkansas and really got hurt.  He was home from work for about a month--the ONLY work he ever missed.  Hopefully you won't catch Don's cold.

Gloria

Good morning everyone. Still waiting for the rain to start but it is a gloomy morning. Son brought me a peck of app;es Saturday, Yesterday spent the afternoon cutting some up for apple sauce. Tood me hours to do it, had to keep taking a break and sit down.  Started the slow cooker before I went to bed and now the apples are all cooked. When it cools my CNA will be here and I will let her put it through the food mill. Don't think I could stand at the sink long enough to do it.

JOAN  like you I like a still softer yolk, great for dipping toast into but the white has to be cooked.

JANE  when I get tomatoes from a farm I always look for those with a bit of yellow or green near the stem end, to me that means they are not too ripe and will be soft the next day.

BEVERLY  I had a SIL who always used those eggcups for boiled eggs.  She had to teach me how to crack the egg that way.   I made a mess the first time.

JUNE  at times my daughter will be in a store and someone will come up to her and say hello and how much she helped her or him. Of course by then they were adults so she did not rocognize some of them until they told her their name. On boy that always was a problem she had to scold and explain things to almost every day. Well by then he had graduated college and was in law enforcement. He told her that her being strict but not mean had a lot to do with how he turned out. One of the volunteers at the school had a son who was in his last year in college and at times when his Mom waas at the school he would stop to pick her up and say hello, my daughter started calling him shorty. She did send me a foto on the 3 of them together and he must have been close to 7' tall.

OUTHOUSES  I never saw one till I first moved to this town. We rented a little house that had been the first schoolhouse in town. You guessed it, an outhouse 2 seater and I hated it. I made sure I had it scrubbed clean before I would go out there. Glad I never had to go out there in the middle of the night.

CAROL  thank God your son was not hurt bad. My younger son worked as a roofer for a long time before he was married. One day one of his coworkers came to our house and told us my son fell from a roof. I panicked. He told me they rushed him to the hospital and he was OK just some bruises. They were taking him back to their shop to get his car and he drove home. I was happy when he told me years later that he was done working on roofs now is doing reconstruction.

PATRICIA  with the coming of frozen food I never bought can stuff as much as I could. Now about the only cans I buy are tomatoes, tomato past or sauce and evaporated milk. Always like to keep a couple of small cans on hand.

MARY ANN  glad you were not hurt in that fall. That is the one thing I am so careful to avoid.

JENNY  seems like I never seem to get here in the evenings anymore. By that time I am in no mood to sit here for another minute.

JOAN  hot cereal and blueberries, please. Great chuckles this morning. I like that girl's reply. Without that 7 we would really not have much of a life. The Boy and the Puppy brought tears to my eyes. The boy and the puppy were God's way of bringing each other what was needed. Thank you for all today's goodies.

JANE  just started raining here, not the downpours that were predicted. They were supposed to start paining the parking lines in the parking lot today but looks like they will be delayed.

AMY  I will have some applesauce ready for the freezer by this afternoon.

JACKIE  wish they had people wash the outside of the windows here.

HAL  the windows here are the kind that tip in sow we can wash the outside.  I have my CNA tip them in when I want to wash them. Cannot get the top windows so am lucky when I can do the lower ones.

LARRY  I Googled yesterday for the inside antennas. One I thought was better than others, under $50 and will pull in stations in 60 miles. That would mean both Providence and Boston. Saw some under $10 that might pill stations in at 24 miles. The one I liked will sit on the TV table and it rotates. Some attach like a pad to the back of the TV. Very thin. Some have to be put on walls or windows, that is out in this building. Only things to show in windows here are the AC's and curtains. Even plants in windows are frowned on.

CAROL....
....I feel your relief that son didn't do more damage to himself...as you say, a fall is a fall, that could have easily have turned out worse.....
MARY ANN....
.....the same for you, the only thing that can hurt is ones pride when we take a fall, when out in a pubic place...Oh and dont those bruises come out the very next day?...
GLORIA....
....our window cleaner is optional, not compulsory, we can even skip the every six weeks if we choose to.... Told by manager at AGM meeting that we can choose our own outside cleaner if we are not happy with this one, but being rather new to this area, we wouldn't know who else to go with or which ones to avoid....Would you believe that in all the 13 years we lived at our last address, I could not get R to book our local street window cleaner even once....

JoanFL

Gloria--Good for you getting the applesauce started for the CNA to finish.  I know you were glad when your son quit the roofing business.  Ray's family had a cabin in the Adirondacks with an outhouse, and I really disliked it.

Vanilla-Jackie--So I guess at the other house "R" washed the windows.

Good Morning all.....going on 10 a.m. here and I am still in my nightgown. Bed is made, exercises, prayers, massage all taken care of, messages read, and I want to go back to sleep.  On my second cup of coffee, just finished half a sweet roll. Woke up at 3 a.m. did a bit of reading and thinking deep thoughts, and fell back to sleep till 7 a.m. I have no plans for the day, except Balance and Mobility at mid afternoon, and probably lunch at noon. This note is a meandering mess, so I'll close and come back later.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

JaneS

I've ground 3 pounds of chicken breasts to use in the homemade dog food, cooked it and I have a dish of chicken to cook for supper and future meals.  I'll put that on to cook later today.

Then I shredded the cabbage I bought from my new farmer friend.  I made a bowl of cole slaw (ate some of it for lunch) and I froze a bag to be used in veggie soup later.

Then I took a nap.  Annie is still not feeling well and since she lost her breakfast, I made her some rice and chicken for lunch.  That seems to be staying down.  We'll see.

I got a piece of meat for the veggie soup and I'm going to put it in the crock pot over night.  When my daughter stopped by yesterday, she asked me what I was doing.  I told her "cooking".  She thinks it's wonderful that I do so much cooking and than I eat better than most of her clients.  I didn't tell her that it's my way of saving money.  If I cook, I can get several meals out of what it would cost to eat out once.  I'm just thrifty...or am I cheap?

Please Everyone, stop with the falling!  I'm afraid you will get hurt!  I'm glad you haven't done any serious damage but BE CAREFUL!

I hope you are all having a lovely day!

June--I was awakened at 3 a.m. by what I thought was the doorbell.  I am expecting a package from Amazon today.  I got out of bed, mad that they'd deliver at that hour.  It must have been a dream because there was no package there.

Janie--Your sweet doggies do eat well.  I love cole slaw.  Is there some for the "hidey hole"?

Click for Melbourne, Florida Forecast

Amy

Jane, I hope the chicken and rice stay down for Annie. Yes you are thrifty and SMART ,you at least know what your eating. It is nice to go out once in a while but I prefer to have a home cooked meal...even if it is only a fractured egg :)

Joan, apples are all peeled and on to cook, won't be long till a bowl of it is in the hidey hole along with some fresh cream and biscuits too!

...yes chicken and rice if anything, should settle your sick doggies stomach...

Chicken and rice didn't work either.  She just tossed it but she had the foresight to go out in the yard to do it.  She's a good little doggie even when she's sick.

Gloria:  I am so scared of heights, would never get me on a roof.  But, I do love to fly and really love take-offs.  Go figure.  Glad your son changed - roofing is a difficult job for sure.  I hope you get a good antenna for your t.v.  It does make all the difference.

JaneS.  Sorry about your doggie being sick.  Not easy for you when they can't "talk" to you.

Vanilla:  It sounds like you have settled in very nicely to your new home.  Is the season changing for you - it is still summer temps here.

JoanFL

Janie and Amy-I'll be checking the "hidey hole".  Thanks!

Vanilla-Jackie--Must be he isn't using the right formula.:)

Janie--What a good doggie to go out in the yard to upchuck.

Carol--I, too, like to fly, but that's the only height that doesn't scare me.

Day is passing much too quickly for me.....

Got a couple of loads of laundry done....cut apples for nearly 2 1/2 hours and got those in the freezer....shared a big bag with our neighbor that watches our home for us when we are away.  She was so excited to see them all cut and cleaned.

JACKIE, you are 7 hours AHEAD of me here in Colorado.  I have never had any one clean my windows, but I am getting close to considering  it....also to have my home cleaned.  Never could even think about it before, but we are just not able to keep it the way I want it to be, so might just have to give in.

JOAN, our minds can sure play some tricks on us.  When my boys were in high school I would hear the vehicle they were driving crunch in the rocks on the side of the driveway where they parked and then would wait for them to come in......they didn't, so I would go look and of course the car was not there!  Hopefully Fed Ex would never deliver at 3 AM, and if they did they would not ring the door bell! 😘

Think we are going to go,out for Mexican Food.....we had Salmon yesterday and I am tired for doing all the apples.....Mark just arrived to do,a bit more packing.....he is more than happy to go to Mex Food.... His time is getting short with us so it will be nice to just go and chat over a meal.  He went to work at 4:30 this morning so I think it will be a early to bed evening for him.

JANE, I am sorry to read that Annie continues to not feel well.  Poor baby.  Good gorilla to go outside and throw up!  One less mess to clean up for you.

CAROL, good idea your son chose a day at home to rest up.  Sure has been hot the last few days, hasn't it.  It will be cooling down a bit too much though now.  CRAZY weather....

LARRY, so good to read that you see that Pat is starting to see signs of feeling stronger.  Please give her my best. YES, very happy my Broncos won....and happy your teams did as well.

MARYANN, one always feels the muscle strains after a fall.....sure glad that is all you feel as it could have been so much worse.

I must go get the last clothes out of the dryer.

Enjoy the rest of your evening, EVERYFRIEND.

Jenny, I watched some, but not all, of the Broncos/Colts game yesterday and I looked for you in the crowd shots, but didn't see you.  I am not a football fan, but I must watch sports when down here.  We were at Tom's brother's and you should hear the brother's wife scream when something either goes wrong or right.  My hearing aid vibrated!  I was happy to have both Michigan college teams won.

I'm going to quit while  I'm ahead - this post has moved all over the place.

Janie dear heart,  You are NOT cheap. You are sensibly frugal, and you do extremely well in your shopping and spending. I wish I were still capable of doing as you do. I enjoyed making my own food, and left overs were always a bonus, not a burden. I am still frugal. I am entitled to three meals a day here, but I choose to usually have just one. I get free cereal and fruit that is alway available to us to help ourselves, I take a jar down and they fill it with milk, there is a bin filled with various breads and bagels and English muffins.  So I have my breakfasts at home at my leisure…..I am a slow starter in the morning. They serve such hearty portions of meals, I always take half my lunch home to have for supper. lI have a little kitchenette, with small refrigerator-freezer, a toaster oven and built in microwave, and sink, plus cupboards. I also have an excellent program on the computer with one of our major markets, where I shop for what I want and it is delivered to my door. I am content.

Bis, were you able to go back to sleep after checking for your package ? I didn't think I could go back, but I did and was thankful. Still had a good nap this afternoon. I got my days mixed up, of course….what else is new for me ??? The exercise program is tomorrow. Today was a movie. I didn't like it, so came home to read and napped instead. In coming home, one of our nurses came up, gave me a huge hug and said she missed seeing me. I said, "Thank you, i needed that hug".So she gave me another, which I returned. What a wonderful place this is to live.

Jane, I am so sorry Annie could not retain the chicken and rice. It brought back memories of my dear Petey dog. I was so thrilled when he was able to eat a bit of white chicken from my hand. Days long gone by now, but he was like a child to me.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

JaneS

I'm off to WM to buy some Pepto-bismal.  The only thing I take myself for upset stomach is my grandmother's old remedy of a teaspoon of baking soda in a half glass of warm water.  She used to say, "It'll either settle it or bring up what shouldn't be there in the first place."  I think, if I remember rightly, I must have had a lot of stuff that shouldn't have been there in the first place because it usually brought it up.

Interesting that the article you sent said not to give them water.  My vet said don't take the water away because she needs it so she doesn't become dehydrated.  I have a tentative apt at the vet for tomorrow afternoon so if she isn't better by then, off we go.

Thanks for the kind words, June.  I'd rather be frugal than cheap.  And I think most of what we cook for ourselves is better than eating out.  I think you do very well with what you have there and you take good care of yourself.  I hope when I reach my 90s I'll be as active as you and the other 90 something ladies in this place.

Click for Lewisburg,Pennsylvania Forecast

JaneS

I didn't have to go to the store.  I don't drive at night unless it's an emergency so I went across the street to my neighbor and asked if they had pepto bismal.  They didn't but when it came out that I wanted it for Annie, they shared a "doggie pepto" with us.  That was the easy part.  Getting it into her was the hard part.  Have you ever had a dog clamp her mouth shut?  You can't even wedge a pin between their teeth.  I did get one teaspoonful down her throat and we'll try again before we go to bed.

Molly

Just a quick-in to let you know I'm still m the Planet!  I've been so tremendously busy the past weeks with family stuff that I hardly had time to sit down and think about staying in touch.  Just caught up with recent posts and good to know Friends are still!

I've been dealing with some of my own health issues as well as keeping in touch with Mohamed and his family RE
their health issues, preparation for the beginning of the new University semester, which begins soon for Mohamed and his enjoyment of several visits with one of his best friends from the USA who has been visiting family in Egypt.  The Friend is enroute back to the USA and Mohamed has just turned in his student papers to have them printed for his students.

My recent news involves an appointment with a local Food Dr., who examined me today and told me that the toenails on my left foot are at the point where they need to be removed, since they have basically rotted.  I'd never heard of this before and was absolutely stunned.  Guess all those years of wearing high heels and rushing on and off the commuter trains in Washington DC and around the Word on different assignments for many yeas has really caught up with me.  Sure never thought this would be the Dr.'s decision.  And I'm NOT sure I want to move ahead with this either.  I've never known anyone who had this kind of foot challenge.  But my ankle is badly swollen so may have to give this VERY serious thought!

Fellow was here today to mow my lawn and explain that he and his assistant an would be coming here soon to treat the yard for the Season.  They spread some type of chemical on the grass and let it work into the yard and don't mow for quite some time as the grass begins to prepare for the Fall.  Sure hope it works!

Hope all are having a pleasant week.  Stay safe, happy and God Bless!

Hi Molly, what a nice surprise to see you posting.  I hope you have gotten the same as my Grandson, he has a similar problem where his toenails are deteriorating.  His doctor told him it was a form of rheumatism.  As a matter of fact he is being medically retired from the Air Force because of his condition.

We got word tonight that an old acquaintance died today.  He and his wife moved some years back to North central Texas and understand he had some kind of fall in the kitchen and died in hospital.  He had a bad heart condition.

Janie, hope the pup holds the Pepto down and gets to feeling better.  Always feel sorry for animals when they are sick.  Never know for sure what their problem is.

Nite, nite, God Bless and Sweetdreams.

Molly, always good to see a post from you. Sorry about the toe nails. My son had one removed that badly ingrown, and he said it wasn't that painful. Hope you get it cared for without too much trouble.

I suddenly got tired this afternoon so had a good nap. I am ready for some more sleeping so I will say Goodnight, God Bless, prayers, love and hugs. June

So good to see your post, MOLLY.  I am sorry to read about your toe condition.  I have never heard of this before, but it certainly sounds like there are signs that this removal is something that is needed.  I have heard of toenail removal due to it being ingrown, and was told it is not that painful.  In your case, if it is dead you will probably not even feel the pain....I hope this would be the case for you.  Think about you daily in my prayers for you and Mohamed.

HAL, my condolences to you in the loss of your friend.

JANE, I certainly hope Annie is feeling much better after her dose of doggie Pepto Bismal.  Sure happy you did not have to dive to get the Pepto!

MARYANN, I was not AT the Bronco / Colts Game....we watched from home.  Thank you for even thinking about me.

JACKIE IT SHOULD BE about 6:15 AM at your house, so good morning!  Enjoy your day.

Pleasant dreams to EVERYFRIEND,

On a serious note, I am surprised to read that Annie couldn't keep her chicken and rice down...

MOLLY...
...Oh Molly, I too have never heard of having all of ones toenails removed....I would definitely get a second opinion about whether that procedure is indeed necessary, before you go ahead and say yes....Like Jenny, I have heard of a toenail removal due to it being overgrown, but never ALL toenails being removed...

HALKEL...
...Sorry to hear of the news, of an old time friends sudden passing....

Who's Controlling Your Life
(By Alan Smith)

I heard recently about a company that sometimes puts on what they call "Lunch and Learn" seminars during the employees' lunchtime, dealing with a variety of physical and mental health issues. If the seminar lasts beyond the normal lunch hours, the employees are supposed to get managerial approval to attend. So, recently, this flier came around:

"LUNCH AND LEARN SEMINAR:

WHO'S CONTROLLING YOUR LIFE?

(Get your manager's permission before attending)"

Looks like that question's been answered!

As Christians, we know what the answer is supposed to be for us. But it sometimes helps to remind us by asking the question again: "Who's controlling my life?" Jesus is often referred to in the New Testament as "the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ". It seems to me that we are sometimes anxious to claim Jesus as our "Savior", but somewhat reluctant to make him our "Lord". As our Savior, he offers us eternal life. As our Lord, he demands full control of our lives. And that can be a scary thing because we want to maintain some control ourselves. May we strive for the day when we can say with the apostle Paul:

"I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me." (Gal. 2:20)

Who's controlling your life?
