Good Sunday morning, Everyfriend.  There's Belgian waffles to go with your coffee or tea.  Have a blessed Sunday.

Thanks to Phyllis for her nice “Apples” graphic creation which we are using this week.

Chuckles

Little Johnny

Little Johnny went to visit the local police station. On the wall were pictures of men under a sign, "10 Most Wanted."

Little Johnny asked the policeman, "Are these men mean?"

"Yes," replied the policeman, "and we're going to catch every one of them and put them in jail."

Little Johnny replied, "Why didn't you keep 'em in jail the day you took their picture?"

Good morning everyone.

Fire is on and it feels good with a temp of 28 ° and foggy as the dickens out there.

A day of rest here...yesterday after laundry, I cleaned out the flower beds, didn't get the hallway painted so that is another job to do.

Lloyd, beautiful grandaughter!!

Phyllis, can almost smell those apples. Like a lot of you here I have used a hand pump for water.

Joan, thank you for breakfast.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning, Lloyd.  Your granddaughter is very pretty.

Amy--Good morning.  It's foggy here, but I sure am glad it's not 28°.  Right now it's 75° heading to above 90°.  Hope you have your geemogotchees on.:)

Good morning.  I made a big bowl of applesauce yesterday and it tastes so good.  Unlike Gloria who makes applesauce and puts some in the freezer, I never freeze applesauce.  I would be taking it right back out of the freezer in just a couple of days.  Applesauce doesn't last long in our house.

Cloudy today with lower temps.  Supposed to only get into the low 70's after being up near 90 yesterday.  Amy, 28 would be a little chilly for me to handle.....I would be wrapped up in so many layers of sweaters and wool afghans I wouldn't be able to move.  And if I had any geemogotchees, Joan, I would have those on, too.   ;D

Lloyd, your granddaughter has such beautiful eyes.  Nice to see a picture of you, too.

I think I'll go to the library this afternoon.  I'm out of books and that always makes me nervous.  Besides, I haven't been out of the house for several days and I need a change of scenery.

Good morning, Phyllis.  Did you put some applesauce in the "hidey hole"?  Glad to hear it's nice enough for you to get out to the library.

Of course I did, Joan.  I wouldn't forget the hidey hole.  Hope you all like lumpy applesauce 'cause that is the kind I make.

Hi everyone on this beginning of the last week of September.  It is a nice 71 degrees this Sunday morning.  This will be a busy morning as have Sunday School and Church and then need to find something to bring home for our Sunday dinner and finally a quick stop at Aldi's for just a few items.

Yesterday afternoon I did attend the 53rd Annual Concert by the Augusta Barbershop Chorus.  The theme of the show was the music of the 60's.  They have a very pleasing sound.  There were also three quartets that performed and the ladies Sweet Adeline's Augusta Chorus.  The concert turned out to be 2 hours long including a 15 minute intermission.  The real highlight of the show was an the Signature Quartet from Florida that had won the 4th prize in the recent International competition and they were excellent.  The lead was a black man with a wonderful voice.  There were about 600 people attending yesterday afternoon.  I had gone early and was able to get a handicapped parking spot close to the entrance.

Amy, your sewing room sounds a lot like the one Pat had in the house we moved from as it was a small bedroom.  In this house it is also a bedroom but is upstairs and has a walk in closet and it's own full bath.  Of course we had to install a chair lift up the stairs so we both could access the upper level of the house.  Our storage area is in the attic across the upper landing from her sewing room.

Hal, I missed out on most of the football yesterday.  I did keep an eye on the scores and the University of Georgia got beat badly by Mississippi and South Carolina was beaten by Kentucky.

June, it sounds like the man you met that was new to your apartment complex has determined that he won't be happy there.  Maybe with time he will meet people and find things that interest him.

Lloyd, you have a pretty granddaughter.

June, it is wonderful that Gary is able to share his talents with the folks where you live.

Phyllis, lumpy applesauce is my favorite applesauce.  Hope you found a good number of books yesterday that interested you.  I seldom go to the library anymore unless it is to pick up a book I have put on hold.  It is so easy to download ebooks or audiobooks that I generally do that.

Good morning everyone, this morning is a jeans and sweatshirt one here. 52° but bright sunshine so it will warm up.

LARRY  you are doing great helping around the house and helping Pat.  Not all men can learn to do all you are now doing. Nice to know what time of day is the slow time for stores. This place has 1 storage room on each floor and you get space for 2 of those plastic bins, no more than that, and there is a room where everyone's AC is stored in the winter. I keep every thing in here. Need to let the office know when you need something from the storage room and then have to wait till the maintenance man has a chance to unlock the door.

JUNE  there is always someone who is not happy where they live. We have one here who complains about every thing and does like not anyone. I could have ordered online but I wanted to see the new keyboard. The one that came with this computer is small and I have a time typing on it, hit 2 keys a lot of the time.

MARY ANN  glad you found your ring.

LLOYD  your granddaughter is beautiful.

PHYLLIS  your graphic is perfect for this time of year.  How I enjoyed going to my son's at this time of year. Just the smell walking through his orchard was heaven.

JOAN  love Food for Thought. That author sure picked a very needed letter for his story. Thank you for today's goodies.

AMY don't think I'm ready for temperature in the 20's yet but tonight the weather guessers are saying some areas will fall to the 30's tonight and have said there could be a frost. We are in the coldest part of this state. I wish I could have turned the heat on this morning but it is still shut off. I think they do not turn it on till the first of October. My AC has a heat section in it and was tempted to try it this morning when I got up.

JOAN  I was tempted to get my geemogotchees on this morning but settled for wool knee socks.

PHYLLIS  I did keep a bowlful of applesauce in the fridge and that is almost empty already. I have been adding some to my oatmeal in the mornings and for a snack in the afternoon I will have 2 slices of toast with some applesauce. That will be the only batch of it I make this year, not enough room in the freezer for more. I have some LLBean wool geemogotchees. Nice and warm. I will be going down to the library later for another book. Finished one last night, stayed up till 1am to finish it. Have not done that in years.

Have a great day.

Lloyd--She certainly is pretty.

Good morning, Gloria.  Good thing you have those wool knee socks.  Seems unfair to set a date when the heat will be turned on.  IMO it should be available as needed.  I try to read at night, but I fall asleep after about 15 minutes.

Good Morning Everyone,
from the cool,  clear,  rocky coast of Maine.

The weather is awesome.   What I like to call
"sweater weather"  with the sun shinning.
Hopefully the hot and humid days of
Summer are now behind us.

I got up this AM and did a much needed
cleaning out of my refrigerator.    Phew,
I am glad that is over and done with!!!

I think that now I am going to grab myself
a bite to eat..

Have a good day,  everyone!

Amy lives in Canada and I wonder if her 28 degrees is in Celsius not Fahrenheit.  We had 51 degrees at 7:30 am and it was "sweater weather" for me, my favorite times of the year.

The sun is shining now and we probably will get up to the lower 70s.

Sandy--Nice you are having sweater weather.  The only time I use a sweater is when I go into a business establishment--they all keep their places so cold.

June--See you after church.  Love you, too.

Mary Ann--You are probably right that Amy stated her temp in Celsius.  Your weather sounds pleasant.

Past noon, so can't say good morning any longer.

It is a pretty sunny day , but a lot cooler.  I almost turned my furnace on,  but just put an extra cover one.

Our family party yesterday was nice. The day started out kind of "iffy" but the sun came a little later and it turned into a nice day.  A little chilly, so my sweat shirt felt good, and then a light jacket after the sun went down.

Lots of good food plus a wonderful selections of desserts.  Not as many people came as past years, but all had a good time.  The kids had fun with a scavenger hunt and of course, on the hayrides.

I stayed out on the deck with several nieces and nephews who I hadn't seen for a while, plus some old friends.  We had a lot of fun talking about old times.  One family used to be our old neighbors when our kids were little. We are all getting "up there" and have a lot of fond memories to reminisce about.

I didn't get home until after 9, and was tired.  I slept until after 9 this morning.   Need to start thinking about lunch.

Lloyd, you sure have a very pretty grand daughter.  Glad she was able to spend some time with you.

Larry, I would have liked your afternoon of listening to the Barbershop Quartets.  I love that kind of singing and haven' heard any of that kind of music for a very long time.  Happy that you were able to go.

Hello to all the other friends this afternoon.

Have a wonderful rest of the day,

Joy

Good afternoon, I am here on the computer, but also watching golf on this lovely sunny, cool day.

Joan, Even though it is late, I will have a Belgian waffle.  First one I ever had was at the NY World's Fair.

Phyllis, liked the graphic very much, made me feel like Autumm is here. I like this time of year.

Lloyd, you have a lovely G.daughter

Amy, I thought it cold here, and it was only 50

Gloria, I did turn the heat on here for a little while and it felt good.  To night could go to  40 and 30 in the Pine Barrons.

Joy, sounds like you had a nice time, enjoying your visit with old friends and family.

Larry, I have always liked Barbera Shop singing.  when I worked at the hospital my supervisor sang with the Sweet Adolines, they even went to England to sing in Internalional Competition

Amy, the frost was really on the pumpkin at your house!  We had 51 degrees F here and I turned on the heat to take the chill off in the house because it was only 69 inside and I usually keep it around 72.

Look what the cat dragged in......Me. Had a good Church service. A guest preacher that operates a ministry (with his wife) to the inner city of Long Beach,Ca. Something we never had in the many years I lived there. It is downtown ICM ministries. They impact the lives of gang members, drug addicts, prostitutes, one-parent families, and the homeless. Their "Basement Church" provides meals, counsel, encouragement and teaches of God's unrelenting Love. He said, "You people live in a gated community. Keep it that way, because you have no idea of the things that happen outside those gates." This is Orange Co. which at one time had Long Beach Residents flocking to live here. It was considered the most conservative county in Ca. then. Change is something happening all over our United States, and he made us aware of it.

Bis, thank you for your message of Love. I felt it dear and appreciate it.

Larry, my Gary made a big hit with his music last night...and his personality. I have been hearing many nice things from others today. And Gary is just Gary. No pretense in him at all. I am so very blessed with two fine sons and wonderful "daughters" they brought into my life. I hope you had a restful day.

Bis and Jane, thanks for alerting us to your computer troubles, now we shan't worry if you are absentees.

Well this day is rapidly coming to an end.  Church this morning, then a quite day until about 5:30 then over the my daughters for our regular Sunday get together meal with all her kids, and her Grandkids (our GGK's).  Anyhow it started thundering and raining about 3"30 or 4 and still at it, rains hard for a bit and then slows down and then starts again.  The cold front is coming in/through.

I have to be up at 6 in the morning and be at the hospital by 9 for two appointments with the vascular clinic.  Another ultra-sound and then with a doctor to tell me what they found.  Fasting again for the US.  I haven't figured that out yet.

I am off to bed and hopefully some good sleep until............
Nite, nite, God Bless and Sweetdreams.

Shirley:  Enjoy your visit.  We are about to take a trip.  It seems that Jenny or you are always on the wrong side of the calendar.   :(

Jackie:  I buy Sudoku books and sometimes make copies of the blank pages - I could never remember the numbers anyway.  I do one puzzle a day on the iPad and set it for 259 pieces.  That is about all my mind can take. ::)

Amy:  Glad to read that your husband's MRI turned out well.  We all hold our breath at times.

June:  A cat has never dragged you in---- hugs to you.

My cousin lives near the area in Washington where the young Muslim man shot the mall shoppers.  He has a son who is a paramedic - but was not involved with this tragedy. Too many of these stories - here and in Sweden too. It is really a different mindset that we are not used to reading in our news.

Hal:  Your post just popped up - best wishes for good results tomorrow.

CHUCKLES

Punny:  Brake Fluid

A mechanic was working under a car and some brake fluid dripped into his mouth.

"Wow! That stuff isn't too bad tasting," he thought.

The next day, he told his buddy about tasting the brake fluid. "It was pretty good, really. I think I'll ave a little more today."

His friend was a little concerned, but didn't say anything.

The next day, "Hey, I drank a whole glass of brake fluid. Great stuff! I'm going to have more."

A few days later, he was up to a bottle a day.

"You know," said his buddy, "that brake fluid is poison and really bad for you. You better cut out drinking that stuff."

"Hey, no problem. I can stop any time!"

Food For Thought

The Lesson of the Homeless Man
(Author Unknown)

It was a cold winter's day that Sunday. The parking lot to the church was filling up quickly. I noticed as I got out of my car fellow church members were whispering among themselves as they walked in the church.

As I got closer I saw a man leaned up against the wall outside the church. He was almost laying down as if he was asleep. He had on a long trench coat that was almost in shreds and a hat topped his head, pulled down so you could not see his face. He wore shoes that looked 30 years old, too small for his feet, with holes all over them, his toes stuck out.

I assumed this man was homeless, and asleep, so I walked on by through the doors of the church.

We all fellowshipped for a few minutes, and someone brought up the man laying outside. People snickered and gossiped but no one bothered to ask him to come in, including me.

A few moments later church began. We all waited for the preacher to take his place and to give us the Word, when the doors to the church opened.

In came the homeless man walking down the aisle with his head down.

People gasped and whispered and made faces.

He made his way down the aisle and up onto the pulpit where he took off his hat and coat. My heart sank.

There stood our preacher...he was the "homeless man."

No one said a word.

The preacher took his Bible and laid it on his stand.

"Folks, I don't think I have to tell you what I am preaching about today..."

Thought of the Day

"As a Christian, I believe that we are all created in the image of God. I believe that God loves the whole world...The life of no human being is cheap in the eyes of God, nor can it be in our own eyes."

Good Monday morning....
....not much happening in my life....outside is pouring down with rain, R is holding back walking the dogs...yet at one time rain would never have stopped me....

CAROL....
...I find doing suduko from a book at night-time, and playing online freecell, klondike and pyramid games during the day....help keep my brain occupied and functioning....

HALKEL....
...What a busy diary you have had these last couple of weeks....on the plus side you are getting yourself out of the house....well you dont need me to remind you of the minus sides...just hope and pray these trip will be well worth it, with optimistic and encouraging results....
..................................................................

I made an early morning phonecall to the fundraisers of my local MS Society to ask if I could bring some unwanted good clothes and stuff in, they are a husband and wife team, she has MS....we talked a little over the phone, she comes across as a very nice, warm and friendly person, although I know who she is, not sure we have actually yet met up or spoken to each other as she sits at the members table....Anyway she said yes, thank you, we have a sell ( naming a church ) coming up October, so I shall take my stuff in at my next meet-up social evening which will be in time for the sale....should help raise some decent money for our society...
...............................................................

Our post hasnt arrived yet, still another 30 or so minutes but, my NHS medical complaints outcome hasnt arrived yet, should have been the deadline of Sept 23rd....we shall see what arrives if anything, mid day today...maybe another blunder to add to my existing blunders...

Good morning, Lloyd.  How nice that there was a belated party for Nancy's birthday.  We had rain yesterday--for about five minutes.

Vanilla-Jackie--Good morning.  I wish that you folks who are getting rain would send some my way.  Nice that you can give unwanted items to a worthy cause.

Good morning, Amy.  My computer is still not right.  I am going to call the man who works on my computer as soon as his business hours begin--8 a.m.  Don't overdo with the painting.

Janie--Good morning.  I am glad that at least your iPad works.  Hopefully your computer can be fixed for a very few $$.

Just a normal day is planned for me.  Monday....laundry day.

We spoiled our dinner yesterday by dropping by the ice cream store after going to the library.  I don't feel a bit guilty!  I had some lentil soup in the fridge so instead of the Sunday dinner that I had originally planned we had soup and fresh veggies to nibble and homemade applesauce for dessert.  Sunday dinner will become Monday's dinner.  So nice to have a flexible routine when I want and so nice to have a son that doesn't mind things being changed around.

Hope all the computer problems are easily fixed.  And ALL other problems, too.  Make it a good day!

Good morning, Phyllis.  Stopping by the ice cream store was almost like dinner.:)  Nice that you and your son are so flexible.

Good Morning, Joan, and all the other Friends.

Joan, breakfast this morning sounds delicious.  I might even have seconds.

It sure has cooled down here in my neck of the woods.   Almost turned the furnace on, but just bundled up a little more.

Nothing real special going on today, except to go down to the office to sign my lease for this coming year.  This used to be a long drawn-out procedure, but all the paperwork has been greatly reduced. Only a couple pages to sign now. Shouldn't take too long.

I guess I will be among many others watching the debate tonight.  I doubt if I will stay with it very long.

Hal, good luck with your tests today.

Joan and Jane, hope your computer problems will be taken care of today.  I had trouble last week and someone told me to try "clearing the history".  I don't know if that was the problem, but it sure helped a lot.  It was running very slow and freezing up, but it seems to be working ok now.

Jackie,  I sure hope you would hear something soon about all the complaints you have pending.

Phyllis,  your ice cream treat yesterday sounds good.  Good substitute for the dinner you had planned.   Now you don't have to worry about what to have tonight.

Lloyd, you sure have a pretty grand daughter.  Glad you had a nice day yesterday with your surprise visitors.

Amy, you sure are so ambitious.  At one time,  I loved to paint, but sure can't do that anymore.   Good luck in getting that job finished.

Hope everyone will have a great day.

Joy

Good morning everyone. Don't know if the maintenance man called the manager when he got home late yesterday or if he did it on his own but the heat is on. Just o a chance late yesterday I turned the thermostat up and was surprised when it came on. Down to 37° last night and no one should have to live  with it that cold and no heat.

JOAN  I have never fallen asleep reading. If a book has a good story I hate putting it down but if it is dull after a few pages of the first chapter I just put it down. I do love those wool socks, wear them all year but the knee socks are warmer.

JOY  it is great seeing family and friends we don't see often. Glad you enjoyed.

JANE  hope your PC calms down and behaves. I do not trust this one at all. I am leery of doing what I enjoyed doing with graphics in case it messes up again.

GLORIA de  it did get down to the upper 30's here last night. Sure glad they turned on the heat here or there would have been a lot down to the office complaining this morning.

MARY ANN  I usually keep the thermostat at 68°, I don't like it too warm but when I am cold like yesterday I want heat.

JOAN  another with a PC acting up? Not good to hear.

JUNE  this town was a friendly one years ago when I first move here more than 65 years ago. It has changed a lot. They are now building 3 new new low income apartment buildings in a once residential neighborhood and that means a lot moving here from the cities, that is when undesirables move in.

HAL  at least you are finally getting some rain. We sure could use some, too. Good luck and good news today with your appointments.

CAROL  so many sickies in the world who like killing innocent people. Media plays it up so much that others want their 15 minutes of “fame” too.

JOAN  ahh that will taste good with my coffee this morning. Food for Thought is one for everyone to read. Another of  don't believe a book from it's cover? I like the Billy Graham quotes you have been sharing.

LLOYD  glad you great weekend.

PHYLLIS   I would change meal plans by stopping for ice cream any time.

JOY  I will try watching the debate tonight but who knows how long I can take listening to either one of them. If Trump thinks before he opens his mouth he might do OK.

Good Morning Everyone,
from the cool,  "Fall like",  rocky coast
of Maine.

We seemed to quickly jump into Fall like
weather,   which is cooler,  dryer and very
very pleasant.      (Ah,  but for things to
come!)    I am not going to complain,
except to say that I shall miss the Summer/Fall
weather here on the rocky coast.

I downloaded a massive Windows 10 update
last night and today.     At first I had a problem
getting it all working.  But restarting the computer
and the modem and the wifi  seemed to work.

Oh,  I had to make sure that "Airplane Mode"
was off.     (perhaps that was the key to the whole
thing)   Anyhow,  as you can see,  I am now
connected and things seem to be working very well.

(Sometimes it takes a while)
Good luck everyone.   I hope that this
helps.

Hi everyone.  It is an overcast but warm Monday morning here in South Carolina. I have fixed Pat's scrambled eggs with bacon crumbles, green onion, yellow peppers and two types of cheese to go along with the strawberries for her breakfast.

I am looking forward to a fairly quiet day.  I do plan on attending my Monday noon meeting and then Pat will see the Chiropractor at 3:45 this afternoon.  While she is there I will make quick trip on down the street to Aldi's for just a few items.  I plan on making her sausage muffins after we get home but can have most of the ingredients about ready.  I will need to fry up a pound of sausage that is used in the recipe.  We are out of cream or could go ahead and get them baked this morning. We haven't discussed it yet but am planning on a nice salad dinner this evening with shrimp on top as the main ingredient.

Yesterday was a very down day for me.  I did make it to Sunday School and Church but must admit I sat in Church with my eyes closed (not asleep) listening.  The service was about 15 minutes late in getting out and I had to get something for our main meal yesterday so it was late when I got home. I ate and them laid down for about 2 hours.  Around 8:15 I told Pat I was going to have to go to bed and did so and was asleep shortly thereafter and slept well throughout the night.

Don, I was able to listen to some of your show yesterday.  I loved that arrangement of the Beetles music.

Sandy, our cleaning lady is willing to clean out our refrigerator so unless I spill something or find something sticky that I will clean up then we ask her to do the general cleaning.  Of course, we do the throwing out when things are past their prime as I just did this morning with three things.

Joy, you can find a lot of Barbershop Choruses and Quartets on YouTube.  I just checked on YouTube for "barbershop quartet champions" and barbershop chorus champions and there are many listings.

deAngel, I didn't tune in the golf until the playoff holes and that was some finish and what a lot of money at stake.  It was exciting right until the last putt.

June, hearing about ministries to the less fortunate and people with addictions and other situations makes us count our blessings.  That "Basement Church" sounds like a wonderful ministry and it takes special people to provide that.

Hal, I couldn't figure out why I needed to fast to have the liver ultra-sound but there is obviously a good reason and I forgot to ask that question.

Carol, doing a jigsaw puzzle of that many pieces on the iPad must be a real challenge.  I usually work puzzles limited ot 240 pieces on my Chromebook, which has a 13 inch screen.

Phyllis, you did your dinner just right yesterday with the ice cream first.  :)

Gloria, glad you were able to get the heat last evening.

My neighbor across the street stopped by after his morning walk and we had a nice long chat.  He is 85 years old and an interesting person to talk with.  He is going to give the program at our Adult Luncheon Group next month at church.  He was on the overpass  and saw John Kennedy being shot.  He has given his talk over 50 times.  I think it will be an interesting program.

Good morning, Gloria.  I am sure glad management relented and turned on the heat.  I don't trust this PC and would like a new one, but right now I can't afford it.

Sandy--Good morning.  I had an update during the night, and so far so good.  Glad you got yours working properly.

Good morning, Larry.  You certainly are doing great preparing meals for you and Pat.  My cleaning people clean out the fridge, too.  Your across the street neighbor does sound very interesting.

Hal, we will be anxious to learn the results of your tests, so please do keep up informed. We care. I too had Ultra Sound to check my leg arteries. I don't remember doing any fasting for that. That proved I had 40 to 90 per cent blockage in both legs. That was quite a few years ago, and I am still here. To a degree anyway.

Carol, let's just say, there are days when I "feel" like something the cat dragged in. Not a rat, but perhaps a mouse that has lost it's squeak. You are kind.

Janie, I too hope and pray your computer can be easily fixed. I sure missed mine yesterday. I'll explain that later. I want to read all the messages first.

Phyllis, you do have a great son. Me too…they adapt to all my strange ways, and encourage me to keep going.

Gloria, and when the governments, even local ones, decide they are going to do something they don't ask the current residence if they approve. Good old Money Making is all they care about. We have to take it or leave it, but now desirable places to "go" to are all filled up with what we don't want. So we hang tight and just stay behind our costly walls, and pray for the best.

Larry, you have taken on more responsibilities now rather than lessening you work load, so it is understandable that you are tiring more quickly. Your best path is to use every free time for complete body rest..the only way to keep everything functioning. We don't expect to let our cars run without gasoline, so we should feel even more protective to our bodies.

I have read all your newsy messages, now I will explain yesterdays absenteeism. I don't recall the exact time, but sometime early afternoon, my fan turned off, along with everything else that is connected to electricity. We had a surprise leap into heat..a hundred degrees, and today is supposed to be 107. All of So. Cal is expecting some quirk of the temperature rise. To make matters worse, the elevators were down, so we were stuck at home, like it or not. Of course many people were very disturbed and complaining loudly. We had sandwich suppers delivered late in the evening. But I keep my kitchen well stocked..not way to heat anything, but there are always peanut butter sandwiches, right ?

To continue, we were down till somewhere into the night. I woke this morning with my kitchenette oven light blinking…telling me to reset the clock. I found relief last night in calling Gary, who is not only Pastor of his Church, but he is associated with the police dept..he didn't want to lose his license with the dept. so he a deputy now. I asked him if he could find out if it was just Rowntree gardens, which does have out-dated elec. power now, or if something had happened elsewhere. He followed up on it, called me back to say there had been a huge traffic collision and 117 homes in the area were affected. So he said, "Now you can go out in the hallway and notify the other tenants what is going on.I did. He knows his mother very well. It did help them, so I'm glad I followed through.

Now I have told you probably more than you wanted to ever know, but so be it. It feels good to unload on understanding people. Hugs everyone, and if I should disappear again, you can be sure our Rowntree Gardens is at fault this time..too many air conditioners running at one time.

June--I am sorry you were without electricity for all that time.  Apparently management needs to upgrade so their system will handle the needs.  If that happened to me, I'd have to gather up my portable oxygen, nebulizer, meds and other needs and to to a hotel/motel.

Well an interesting morning.  Daughter picked me up around 715 and it was pouring rain.  As soon as we turned onto the main road out of our neighborhood we hit a line of traffic.  It was that way almost all the way to the hospital.  I checked in there about 5 after 9, 9 was my first appointment, but no harm was done, everyone was running late.  What a mess.

Larry, I ask the question: "why the fasting".  Easy answer, gas and air pockets.  Ultrasound doesn't penetrate well and of course the food itself.  Anyhow the tech who did my Ultrasound was a specialist and he got his work done with very little problems he also check circulation in legs after checking the aorta.  I then saw two doctors, one a "teenage" resident he was 26, cause I ask him his age, he looked every bit of 17, not kidding.  He was a thorough, intelligent, nice young man and then the vascular specialist came in and did his thing.  And yes I do have an aneurysm in my aorta.  It is small though and they don't want to mess with it unless it grows.  They want me back in one year, unless something goes haywire.  So they good Lord continues to look out for me.

The really good news, no more appointments on my calendar until I make one with a pain specialist.

Joanie, our rain should be ending sometime today.  Officially I think they said we had four inches last night.  I haven't look at my el cheapo rain gauge but it did it's thing all night and my old pup divided her time between my bed and my wifes bed.  Not like her to be a fraidy cat, but she want someone to comfort her last night.  Joanie, wish we could share the rain with you, but cant figure out how to do it.

Anyhow, I think I heard the couch singing a lullaby to me, need to check it out.

Food for thought in these times:

"If you do not take an interest in the affairs of your government, then you are doomed to live under the rule of fools.-  Plato

Sitting down and reading all the notes, I was just thinking of what a pleasure to have this forum and hit the keys to chat about nothing or everything. And, we are fortunate to live in free countries where we can take to the internet.

Here, Don dropped the mailbox key and it slid under the washing machine.  He has a hurtful shoulder and  neither of us can lift the machine.  Boy, it looks grubby underneath too.  Will await help - and meanwhile, we do have a 2nd. key.  Always be prepared.

I finally mailed a quilt to a grand nephew plus goodies for his sister.  Do you know that UPS gives a little discount for being old?

Good morning from a Monday morning in the Interior. Nothing new here other than a small round of tests concerning my balance issues and my vision problems.

Farah is bored with her balcony window on the world, her paper sack and me. She has spent most of the last couple of days sleeping, and she probably wishes for someone more youthful to play with. She is athletic, young, agile and alert. None of those qualities I spend a lot of time with.

"They," are predicting snow in the next day or two. Our past usual way was to snow furiously for a day, melt by the next and then wait about a week for another snow day that sticks.

The trees are mostly denuded, the wind is finally absent, the air is noticeably drier and crisp, while the sky has gotten, it's cover of clouds. The whole land and its inhabitants are hushed and expectant.

Carol, a yard stick scraped under the washer works wonder on recovery of small things...I've used that method many times..washer, dryer, fridge...of course you have to get down on your knees, but you can do it, girl.

Hal, thanks for the wonderful report ! Congratulations.

Bis, so far the elec. is keeping up with the heat. Ordinarily, being this close to the Pacific we don't get heat like this..very unusual..it is currently 105 and that is probably the high. Cooler in Hemet today, they only have 90.

Carol--Good quote.  Lucky you have a spare key.  Thanks for the info about the UPS discount to seniors.

Patricia, I feel that Kendrick needs someone younger, too, but all he has is me.  And he sticks to me like glue sometimes.  I do try to play a bit, such as the stick with a string and fish attached.  He goes for that for a while until I get tired!!!

It's been a great day today with the temperature around 70 degrees - sweater weather and MY kind of weather.

A good Monday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND!

I have been trying to keep up, but have not posted.  We are in Chicago with our family and have been having the BEST time.  These boys of ours are so sweet and we have taken advantage of spending ever minute possible with them?

Tomorrow we must head back home to Denver.  Wow, our time sure did pass quickly......always fun to go, but never fun to have to say good bye.😪😥😿

My boys took me away, so best say good bye now and get this sent.

Joan, I wish I could get Farrah a playmate, but we are only allowed one pet that is twenty pounds or less in these apartments.

MaryAnn, I understand completely about being too tired.

Jenny, it sounds like you are enjoying visiting with the grandkids. Enjoy!

Jenny, I am SO happy you had this time with the little ones. They do grow up so quickly. My Dori is flying to McCall Idaho tomorrow to spent time with her son, dil, and three little ones. Oldest is six. She is a true Grandma, like you, and I'm so happy my Gary agrees in her trips to BE a Grandma. She is in her glory with the little ones. She also has two speaking engagements with two separate churches in McCall. She really knows how to use time.

My A/C is pumping out nice cold air and I am so comfortable. I think I will heat up some Hormels Chili and beans for my supper. Haven't had that for a long, long, time, and will watch the debate between the two Presdential hopefuls, unless I get bored with all their haranguing.

My eyes are trying to close, just wanted to tell y'all I had a wonderful drive to Salida, CO, got 2 pizzas and a calzone to go.... brought home to my family here that is usually there with me.... most expensive Italian food ever eaten!!!  Seriously, I needed to make a run on those RV tires and too hot to go anywhere else....besides, it sounded like fun and was!!!  Trees were beautiful & first night a little snow on the mountain tops.

Tires seemed to do okay but had a water leak from the water tank to "all parts" in the RV.  Main valve & I wasn't sure if my turning one "thingy" that made the water stop was shutting off the whole system or just tightening a leak.  Didn't want to turn the pump on & force it to blow or burn out the pump, so waited until I got home & had #1 son have a look.  Just a fitting that worked loose, no problem except I'm washing/drying a whole washer load of big towels used to mop up the water!

And Gloria, guess what??? It was 36 degrees in the RV Sunday morning when I prepared to head home.  I loved it.... just parked in a Walmart parking lot, the cats love to people watch safe inside.... but they were glad to get home.  I hope to sleep sound tonight, down to the 50s tonight so will be comfy here with a door open.  I drove 1100 miles from Friday to Monday, learned to text & send photos with my phone, to the delight of my kids. Did not find my favorite highway fruit/veggie stand open so was disappointed about that.

And now I am going to switch channels & watch Gilligan's Island.... makes more sense than these politicians.  Oh, Hogans Heros.... far cry from what my brother saw in a German POW camp but the cast is good.

Glad to hear good reports from all the testing done recently!   :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:   Very pretty gr-daughter, Lloyd.

Shirley ...
Just curious..  how long do you drive per day,  when
you are on the road going from one destination to another?

I ask because when I was "on the road" a few years back,
I would drive for many, many hours with out
much of  a break.     And I do believe driving
for long hours at  time had an affect on me,
when I ultimately had some strokes.

I hope that you aren't like me,  and push on
for hours  and hours .

Sandy, I did drive from Wichita to Salida, CO....550 miles one way, going, but took it easy on the way home since I had to face sunrise heading east.  Drove to Lamar & spent the night, don't even have to get out since it really is "self contained".  Cats love people watching in Walmart parking lots & I plug ear phones in & listen to old music & fall asleep.  I knew it would be a rough trip with high winds on the way out but too hot to stop.  Was nice & cool on the way home.  I worry about strokes with A-fib & all, so did take an aspirin before going & after the struggle to load 3 cats, took another.  They really fight being hauled into the RV but can't leave them, we did it ourselves, made them depend on us for food.... so have to take them or have them put to sleep.  I figure they are my responsibility & lucky for me that I found an RV that still lets me be free, for however long it lasts.

Will see if "the kids" want something else to eat before I go to bed.... they don't eat much on the road, except Tom... and he lets me clean it up a little while later.  YUCK!

This trip I did stop for the cats to have a "potty" break & get a drink of water/dry food.  I think part of the reason Tom gets sick is he needs the break.... didn't get sick on the way home.  I know this could come to a screeching halt at any time so going to play Scarlett & enjoy while I can....   take it easy & rest when I need to.

When I get out I have to lock cats in the bedroom & they like to hide from me so sometimes it takes a while to gather them up.... ever try to herd fleas?  I do get some leg exercise rounding them up but you are right, need to take more breaks.  The trip to MO is about half as far but not sure it will be as cool.  I will have electricity in the campground in case we need AC... was delightfully cool in CO.

I would love to visit Yellowstone & Glacier & all points between but know it is a lot of extreme driving to be at a place to stop for the night.  I haven't ventured out yet, only go where I know & know how long it takes to drive.  I don't drive at night.  Guess I'm chicken compared with you & Bobbi....  I am having to learn to use my smart phone being by myself.  Pleased the kids that I sent photos along the way, in a text.  I wish y'all were still able to hit the road & we could meet somewhere.  How long did you actually travel?  Did you miss having someone around when seeing spectacular sights?  The cats just don't appreciate "those golden trees" or "there is snow on the mountains this morning!"

"But my husband is here getting his hair cut," I explained.

Good morning everyone.

I did manage to get my kitchen painted yesterday and sort of put back together. Thought I could also get the ceiling painted in the hall but that was not to be. Took a long soak in the hot tub to sooth sore muscles and it seemed to work at the time. Today the hall will be done and that is it for painting this year.

Shirley, I was happy to read that your tires didn't give you any grief on your trip.Love reading about your travels.

Joan, thank you for breakfast.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning, Amy.  Your home sure is all spiffed up with all the painting you're doing.  I'm sure that soak in the hot tub felt great.

Good morning Everyfriend!  The weather is cooler these last few days and the geese are on the move. The leaves have begun to fall. Autumn has arrived in central PA.

Yesterday I took care of the items I bought at the farmers market on Sunday and I have 5 pints of pickled cabbage ready for the winter. I'd hav more but I ran out of vinegar and really didn't feel like going out to the store again. So ill finish it up today.

My computer is still in the shop and I'm on the iPad. At least I don't have to feel isolated. I'm going to post this now so I don't risk losing it. Enjoy your day Everyfriend.

Good morning, Lloyd.

Janie--Good morning.  I guess Autumn has arrived here, too, because I put the fall wreath on the front door.:)  I've never had pickled cabbage.  Is that similar to what I call sweet and sour cabbage?

it might be Joanie. It what my grandmother always called pepper cabbage. Because it has a mixture of green and rd bell peppers in it.

Good Morning Everyone!

Ah, it is fall here too, on the calendar, but we are getting a little taste of the cool of fall, a break from summer heat.  They are forecasting no days in the 90's for the coming week and guess what I turned the ceiling fan off when I got up this morning.  It made it chilly in here.  No the a/c is still on.

Amy, how in the world can you paint a kitchen in one day?  It would take me two days just to prepare it for painting.  And I used to do some painting part time for a contractor.  I must be slow.

Janie, that cabbage sounds so good.  I love cabbage, raw or cooked.  Not many veggies I don't like, well except cooked Broccoli.  I like it raw.

Joanie, did you ever get anymore rain?  They say we are through with ours for a while.  But we got plenty, well I say that, there were some areas that didn't get a drop while all around the 4-5 inches fell.  Strange.

Sandy, I used to be they way you were.  Once behind the wheel I didn't like stopping and could/did drive for hours on end.  Looking back, just plane dumb.
Some trips we would stop early around 4-5 and get a motel, you could always find one if you stopped around that time and then you could relax and have a nice dinner.  Back in my working days it was not unusual to drive 150 miles and work all day and drive back home.  Maybe why I have some kidney problems now.... ;D

Coffee is ready, cool on patio, who wants to join me?

Good morning, Joan and all the early friends.

Joan, thanks for the Krispy Creme donuts this morning.  I noticed that our Walmart is now selling Krispy Creme's.  I didn't see the large assorted ones, but they have 2 donuts in a box, which really are just enough at one time.   Don't have to buy a whole dozen at a time.  They also have little packaged fruit pies, which are very good.  Much better than the Tasty Kake ones,  The pastry part is very flaky.  I have only the have the cherry, so don't know if they have any other flavors.

Nothing special going on today. After a very dreary day yesterday, the sun is shining this morning and it doesn't feel near as chilly in my apartment this morning.  I think it is supposed to be in the 70's most of the rest of the week.

Jane, I have never heard of peppered cabbage.  I do like pepper slaw that some of the deli counters have.  It is very fine chopped cabbage, green and red peppers in it.  I like cabbage but haven't had any cooked cabbage for a long time.  I do make cole slaw quite often. I prefer my own over the store-bought kind.  My Walmart does not have a deli counter with salads, etc,  but they do carry  a pre-made packaged slaw near where they have the rotisserie chickens that is very good.  I do buy that sometimes.

Glad to hear most everyone is feeling pretty good this morning.  Hope you all have a wonderful day.

Joy

Janie--What I've had didn't have peppers in it.

Good morning, halkel.  It rained for five minutes yesterday afternoon.

Joy--Good morning.  I try to find small packages of baked goods--otherwise they get stale before I can eat them.

Hi everyone.  It is another very pleasant morning in my part of the world.

Today is our first Adult Fellowship luncheon and program at the Church starting at 11:30.  The entertainment is from a group of Seniors who are singers in another Methodist Church over in Augusta, Georgia.  Then we will have a lunch of loaded potato soup, salad with baked chicken on it, corn bread, and a dessert.  Fortunately I had put in my notifications sometime ago that I had agreed to bring the devotional as I had totally forgotten and wouldn't have remember if I hadn't set it up to email myself a reminder (I use this system of reminders a lot).  I did have something appropriate in my Devotions folder when I have been accumulating Devotional thoughts that I might want to use in the future.

Later this afternoon Pat has her second Chiropractic treatment for the week, unless it gets cancelled as the Chiropractor and his wife are expecting twins to be born any day now.  That is going to be it for today except for fixing something for Pat's dinner tonight.  I am sure I won't care for a meal this evening as I am always full from the luncheons or evening meals at the Church.

June, I do rest a lot and some days that is all I want to do.  However, there are some things that must be done which I try to do first thing in the morning while I still have maximum energy.  The resting is lot gasoline for me.  You are certainly having hot weather.

Hal, I am finding that running late seems to be the norm in most doctor's office.  The big exception we have had here is that the Chiropractor runs on time and has a very efficient staff.  Of course he is not on call to a hospital or critical situation as are medical doctors.  Sorry to hear you have that aneurysm in your aorta.  I had that test several years ago and the results were inconclusive.  I hope that aneurysm stays small.

Carol, do you have a magnet wand for your sewing room?  Pat has one that telescopes and we have used it a few times to get to something we cannot reach if it is metal.  I did not know about the UPS discount.

Shirley, I am glad you had a nice trip.  I thought you were leaving your cats at home for your short trip abut guess I misunderstood what you were saying.  What a hassle to have to deal with the water leak.  The saga seems to continue with your motor home. Glad you enjoyed your trip and are now safely home.

Good Morning from the rainy,  and cool,
rocky coast of Maine...

As Hal said:
QuoteSandy, I used to be the
way you were.
Once behind the wheel I didn't like stopping
and could/did drive for hours on end.
Looking back, just plane dumb
.

I would wake up in my van when
the sun came up and start my day ....
heading out for hours at a time.

Rarely did I ever get out and go for a walk.
I was kind of obsessed with driving and
"getting there",  and often ready to do it
all again,   day after day.

I will say that in hindsight,  I got lost in
"moving on",  for the first three months.
When I finally reached Port Townsend,
Washington,   I managed to stop and
get a room to live in.... and could finally
relax and enjoy my new "life" ...
(As a "stranger in a strange land" .. so to
speak) ...

Six months later I decided to head back to
the East Coast,  after deciding that I
really was living way to far away from
"home"...

I will say that my diet and the fact
that I didn't take my prescribed
medicines as diligently as I should
have,  plus the stress I put on myself to
"keep on trucking" and not relax and
enjoy where I was at the time,  led me
to having the strokes which ended my journey.

( I did not even realize that I had had until
notified by the men who came when I called
911.)    In the middle of a brain attack,
my mind couldn't even conceive what was
going on.

(I drove myself from Austin Tx  to  Baton Rouge
Lousiana  .....  447 miles !!!!  After suffering
several strokes)

The sad thing about my having these strokes,
was my in ability to recognize  what was
happening  and get help when it help was
needed.  (It never dawned on me that I
was in fact in real trouble and suffering a life
threatening condition)

But the good news is:   I am doing really
well today... Being vigilante with my meds and
getting good sleep,  and settled in  to
a "happy place" for me here in the city
where I ca take take  care of all my needs,
every day,  with out failure.

I still would do it all again,  with major
changes in how I took care of myself and
my body.   I made my dream of crossing
the USA a reality,  and I would do it again.
(But not alone,  and with strict guidelines for
my own behavior)
:peepwall:

Have a great day,  everyone.

Sandy

I was too tired to say Goodnight last night..tiredness seem to be a daily thing now. And I do a lot of resting..maybe that is my problem..too much resting. What ever...I just do what the body dictates. I do have several programs to attend this afternoon, and I will do it. I forgot one last week, but can't change it, so I'll just accept it.

I have read that many truck drivers suffer kidney problems. Especially those that drive the big semis.

My husband always wanted to get to the destinations without stopping for an overnight, so a vacation could be very tiring at times.

The debate last night was a nothing, in my estimation. I quit just shortly before they did.

Time to make the bed and scrounge up some breakfast, so I'll see you later.

Good morning everyone, had some rain overnight and is a gloomy one here. Could not believe I woke so late this morning. I have my new keyboard and mouse installed and like both. Keyboard is bigger so I have stopped hitting 2 keys and the keys are easy to tap and not hit hard. Some keys at the top I never saw before and nothing in the paper work as to what they are for. There is a window up there that shows a battery and the #1. Must be to ley me know the batteries are good. Feels good to have a mouse that goes where I want it to. The other one I had to fight with to move to the side I wanted it to go, not fun at all.

LARRY  I would hate to tell you how much food I throw away from my fridge and freezer.

JOAN  for all the trouble I have had with this PC I would like to junk it and get a different one but I saved too long for this one. I have lost track of how many times I have had to install everything again. Sure glad I saved a lot to the external.

JUNE  this has been the forgotten part of the state till they want something they do not want in “their” areas so put it out here. The town has said they will not let them use our water and they will need a huge amount. “they” said they could draw water from a huge lake that borders this state and Mass. It is a beautiful lake with very clear water. Mass. Will not let them do that as it will effect that state, too. I don't think anyone who lives here is for it, forget the local taxes they will have to pay. Terrible to have electricity go out. Have been lucky here and where I moved from. I would never be able to walk down 2 flights of stairs and would be stuck up here. I do have several flashlights around in here and a small one I keep in the pouch under the seat on my rollator so I would have some light if it was at night. My daughter was telling me yesterday it was almost 100° there yesterday.

HAL  pretty sad when some doctors or techs are younger than our grands. That is when I feel my age.

CAROL  like that quote. I have no patience with those who cannot be bothered to vote. Didn't know that about UPS.  Good to know that.

HAL  that is great. Better than sitting and feeling sorry about what life has handed you. I copied the link. Thanks.

PATRICIA  we had our earliest snow here a few years ago before Halloween and it was a mess.  Schools and businesses all closed at the same time and some kids did not get home from school until 9pm. Parents were all worried. Bus's and cars were stuck and that was before everyone had cell phones so no way to be in contact. Cute link, who calls them dumb animals?

SHIRLEY  glad you enjoyed your trip but sorry about the water. Always something. Has not been that low here yet but it has finally cooled some. A couple of nights with the window open and the fan in front of it. Did have to add a blanket and enjoyed it. I like the ME channel and those old programs. I envy you the views you saw. Since I first got a PC I have “seen” places I always wanted to see and from my PC chair.

JOAN  I will pass on the Krispy Creme. There is only one brand of donuts I like. Like the Haircut. Food for Thought is a different way to look at our lives. Thank you for today's goodies.

AMY  you sure find things to keep you busy.

JANE  glad you have that iPad.

JACKIE  she is a caring young woman. Touching clip. Thanks.

Larry--Your lunch at church sounds yummy.

Sandy--You sure learned many lessons when you were "on the road".

June--I watched the very first of the debate last night and turned it off--totally disgusted.

Gloria--Wish I was able to sleep in some days.  I know the donuts you like.:)

Good Afternoon,

It's a gorgeous Fall day in central Oklahoma......not even any wind!

My big news is that, yesterday,  Miss Ellen  moved to New York City to pursue her dream.
She has a sub-let in a shared apartment for the month of October, which will give her time to actually go and see possibilities for a longer time period.
She spent last night with a friend, who will help Ellen move into her new "digs" today.

Ellen and I had a nice phone chat last night.  She and the friend had gone by subway to Ellen's apartment so she could get the keys and meet her "landlady" before that girl goes out on tour with "Mama Mia".
Ellen said she likes the area and her room is "cute".

Small world coincidence:  The girl was also on tour with "Mama Mia" last June, which was in Tulsa at the same time Ellen was in "Shrek".  They were actually performing in the same building (different theaters) at the same time for an entire weekend.   I remember "Mama Mia" being upstairs in the big auditorium when we went to see "Shrek".

Shirley,  Leadville friends reported snow over the weekend - and someone posted a picture of snowplows on one of the passes.  Sounds as if you missed all that excitement.

Wish my nose didn't start dripping every time I stick it out the door.   Oh well....there's always laundry.   ::)

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a lovely day.

not much activity here today. The store wasn't busy either and we decided it was a combination of a gorgeous day and the Bloomsburg fair. It's a BIG fair withh rides vendors and exhibits. I haven't been there for a long time but lots of people go more this
An once.

I'm going to try and finish the cabbage today. I remembered to get vinegar on the way home and everything is laid out.   Maybe I'll check the couch fo zzz first. Enjoy the rest of your day.

Callie--Good luck to Miss Ellen pursuing her dream in NYC.  It will be a totally different way of living--that's for sure.

Janie--When you get the cabbage done would you please put a little in the "hidey hole" so I can sample it?  I already got my zzz's.

Callie, best wishes and God's protection for Miss Ellen's adventure.  I am sure that I/we are getting the chance to worry about our grands for the "wild life" we led back in the '50s, huh?  I get to worry about one of mine here in town, due to give birth to a boy in about 6 weeks.  So far all reports are okay, but can't help worry with the extreme radiation she had after thyroid cancer surgery about 2 years ago.  I didn't even drive up to St. Elmo this time, always such a beautiful drive, but was afraid of slick roads up high.  Should have stayed another day or so but have a reunion in MO the first week of Oct.  Running my legs off taking stuff out (for cold weather) & cleaning up after Tom's messes.  We won't see cold temps like CO for another month, in MO or KS.... but it is a little cooler.

Jane, I found with my food processor the coleslaw is MUCH better when I run the cabbage through twice.  Yum, I am ready to go shop for a fresh head.  Never tried your kind but bet I'd like it.

My PCs are all crazy, have been bordering giving up for years but #1 son keeps them going.  Today I couldn't get Google Chrome to open on this one with Windows 10.... so I opened Firefox & had a discussion with it about not taking over.... and used it, didn't have any bookmarks in there so got out & discovered Chrome was no longer on my tool bar!!!  I had to search Windows & open Google.  Now I don't have Firefox OR Google on the toolbar!!!  I tried the old computer downstairs & it still won't "show it's face" after the last updates before I left.  Had to give it a hard shut down because the monitor & external monitor wouldn't come on then or now.  The little 12" one I bought many years, like using a tablet, too small to spend a lot of time using.... the mouse (tried several) and the little keypad won't move the curser at all.... tried everything.  One son out of state & other busy taking care of his grandbaby.  So I will take my frustrations to the couch for some zzzzzzzzzzzzs. Spent quite a while trying to get FitBit to give me my stats this morning so did a restart & got it up.  Better get a load out of the dryer before dozing off.  We'll see if I can get back in later.

Shirley,   I am sure that I/we are getting the chance to worry about our grands for the "wild life" we led back in the '50s, huh?  Speak for yourself!!!    :angel2:

I remember being at my Mom's house when my sons were probably in elementary school.  A group of my high school friends came for the evening - and, when the stories started, Grandmother took the boys into a back bedroom and shut the door.  ;D

When Mother came to visit after we moved here, she and I got together with a friend who had been her (younger) good friend in the home town.  Friend's husband's first year of teaching was my Junior year in high school. During the conversation Mary said to me,  "Did you know that your class almost convinced Bob to go into another line of work?"   I said, "Oh, Mary, we weren't that bad."   She replied, "Oh, yes, you were."
I know we were ornery but we never destroyed or defaced any property nor did we threaten to or actually hurt any person.

Saddest thing about the snow is that it almost always knocks the colorful leaves off the aspen - and those pix were fantastic this year.
I also saw a brief video of a moose wandering beside the highway between Leadville and Fremont Pass.  In all the years we lived there, we never ever saw a moose!

joanie, the instructions tha I was given for the pickled cabbage were "put the jars in the cellar and don't touch them for at least 3 weeks". I interpret that to mean in a cool dry dark place. If I put some way back in the hides hole does everyone promise not to disturb it for 3 weeks?

I assume you "wild ones" will follow the rules. Sooooo there it is!

Sometimes I wish we could REALLY share!

All the painting is done!!!I must admit I am happy about that.
Hal, I just wanted it done and over with. I thought I could tear off the border in the kitchen ,wash the ceiling and walls and paint it plus the ceiling in the hall.....well that was not to be, I tuckered out!
Nice rain here..making it a bit damp in side so now the fire is chasing that  away. While the fire is on I put a pot of rice pudding on to cook,it is now cooling off in the fridge for later. Some is in the hidey hole  with Jane cabbage that looks so tasty! I agree with you on that Jane ,it would be fun to share with others here.
Going to go put my feet up....I did have time to sew a binding on a quilt and now I can sit and hand sew.

Enjoy your evening.

Janie, Amy certainly is amazing in all she does, and You run her a close second. You two make me feel like a lazy slob. (but I enjoy it.)

I felt so tired this morning I undressed from my walking clothes and put on my house clothes and decided to stay home and skip the two programs. So lay down and read till lunch time, ate a sandwich at home, felt much better after eating so dressed again, went to the Food Program, came home and decided to skip the Balance and Exercise class, so put on leisure clothes again, and read some more. Now I am here, feeling like a slob compared to the rest of you, so thanks for putting up with me. I'll eat at home again...to lazy to dress again and go down to the dining room.

I need to make a grocery order soon. Since I am staying home more for meals, I have to restock my pantry.

Hope you all had a good supper, still too early to eat here, but I'll make it easy on myself and reheat the rest of the chili I had yesterday, along with some fruit and cheese cake for dessert.

I get exhausted just reading about the activities of others.  I most certainly could not do what Amy, JaneS, Shirley and others do all day long.

Tom and I picked up his lady friend, Robin, and went to a coney place for supper.  Robin and I shared a Cobb salad and Tom had a club sandwich.  Tom also had read on Facebook about a woman who lives near who had had surgery so could not work or drive so for income she was baking cookies.  Tom bought five dozen cookies from her!  And they are now in the freezer.  I was happy to eat the salad but I spoiled it by eating one each of the kinds of cookies.  The last batch was a very rich chocolate cookie and I had to follow that up with coffee.  I'll bet I gained five pounds!

Mary Ann, what a nice thing for you & Tom to do to buy the cookies..... were they all good?  I love home made cookies & been too lazy to bake for quite a while.  Smart for the lady, too, I do admire someone making the effort to help themselves.

Callie, we were that kind of ornery.... never damaged anything but pushed the buttons.  The high school principal was my buddy from first grade when he let me bring my chicken to school in my doll buggy.  He moved on up when I was in 3rd grade & the new principal for elementary school was my first grade teacher (that invited me to bring Maggie, the chicken), so I had an inside track with the principals all the way through 12 years.  I treated them like friends & they treated me the same, I really liked them.  I was no angel but knew when to draw the line, some things sound worse now that it seemed then.  <grin>

My oldest son's class actually retired their kindergarden teacher.  He loved her dearly but scared her to death with climbing the ladder to hand walk across... with about 25 pounds of braces strapped to his legs from waist to 3" below his feet.  He announced to me that first day with double braces that he could do better with both (I nearly had a heart attack).  At first he resented the 2nd brace because he had to use crutches to balance.... after 2 years of the single brace & built up shoe so the bad leg didn't get any pressure.  No more baseball or anything that needed hands free.  The other boys did not treat him any different, expected him to do what they did.  It was hard to not make him feel he was "disabled" without breaking his spirit.... he led a very active life until 5 years old & could keep up with the 5 year older boys that came to play sports in the yard with his older sister.  2 years with the double braces & another year for the bones to harden & so far he doesn't admit to any return of the Perthes.  30% of the kids get it back as adults & would need hip replacements.  He is 55 so hopefully he is one of the lucky ones.

Janie, my bet is that we better wait the time or like a persimmon, will not taste right.  Maybe not as sour as an un-ripe persimmon... eek!   Sounds good, I'm hungry for something vinegary.  I, too, would love to really share some of our foods.

Amy, my husband was the one that delighted in painting a room, I never got a chance.  He didn't mind me doing all the clean up & washing brushes, though.

I am ready to go to bed, one more chance for the cats to come eat.  I did not wake up last night from about 11:30 when I went to bed until 6:20 am.  Cats were out & I kept the door closed so they couldn't talk to me all night.  Was in the 50s so missed out of the cool air & supposed to be the same tonight..... choices-choices.  Cool air but cats waking me up or good sleep & no air.   Maybe if I open the door just a little they won't notice?

Sweet dreams to all & God Bless.... good night, Patricia.... :sleepy:

CHUCKLES

Lying: You WILL get Caught!

A minister told his congregation, "Next week I plan to preach about the sin of lying. To help you understand my sermon, I want you all to read Mark 17."

The following Sunday, as he prepared to deliver his sermon, the minister asked for a show of hands. He wanted to know how many had read Mark 17. Every hand went up.

The minister smiled and said, "Mark has only sixteen chapters. I will now proceed with my sermon on the sin of lying."

Food For Thought

Blind Horse
(By Alison Cotter)

Just up the road from my home is a field with two horses in it. From a distance, each looks like every other horse. But if one stops the car, or is walking by, one will notice something quite amazing.

Looking into the eyes of one horse will disclose that he is blind. His owner has chosen not to have him put down, but has made a good home for him. This alone is amazing.

Listening, one will hear the sound of a bell. Looking around for the source of the sound, one will see that it comes from the smaller horse in the field. Attached to her bridle is a small bell. It lets her blind friend know where she is, so he can follow her. As one stands and watches these two friends, one sees how she is always checking on him, and that he will listen for her bell and then slowly walk to where she is -- trusting that she will not lead him astray.

Like the owners of these two horses, God does not throw us away just because we are not perfect or because we have problems or challenges. He watches over us and even brings others into our lives to help us when we are in need. Sometimes we are the blind horse being guided by God and those whom he places in our lives. Other times we are the guide horse, helping others see God.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, who watches over even a blind old horse, thank you for watching over us and leading us to You. Amen.

Thought of the Day

"The Christian life is not a constant high. I have my moments of deep discouragement. I have to go to God in prayer with tears in my eyes, and say, 'O God, forgive me,' or 'Help me.'"

- Billy Graham

Good morning, Vanilla-Jackie.  Yes, I had trouble sleeping.  We had a bad storm, and it knocked out my TVs and my computer.  When I got up and came to the computer, I had trouble booting up.  After messing around, I got it started.  I am going to go do errands this morning, but really didn't need such an early start.:)

Hi everyone.  I got off to an early start today as got up about 5:30 this morning.  I had gone to bed early as was feeling very weary and had a good 8 hours or more of sleep.  Today should be a pretty light day with just the dinner at church this evening and then our weekly visiting with our son afterwards.

The Adult Fellowship at the Church yesterday was most enjoyable and there was a very nice crowd to enjoy the singing group that provided our program.  The group's director was very outgoing and they sang a series of the old secular songs that I used to play all the time as I was growing up and then a sacred set of the choruses of the old familiar hymns.  The attendees were invited to sign along.  The musical group is made up of older folks who just enjoy singing and from several different churches.  I didn't bring the devotional as had forgotten that I was just on standby as someone had called the coordinator indicating they would like to do a particular devotional.  This was a 1982 piece published in the Guideposts Magazine written by a former pastor of our church, who is long retired, and he and his wife attend our church now and were at the Fellowship yesterday.

A friend came over to visit with Pat yesterday afternoon bringing a homemade pie to bake and a big container of cut up fruit.  I will bake the pie this morning and we will enjoy the fruit for a day or so as it will go quickly.

Sandy, it is a wonder you were able to drive that far after suffering the strokes.  I recently read a short article on how to recognize someone is having a stroke and four things to ask them to do.  I copied the article and put in in my memo collection on my iPhone in case it would ever be needed.  You certainly had quite an adventure and it was interesting to follow you across the country from your postings.  However, I was always concerned about your traveling alone.

June, I can sure understand your tiredness and how frustrating it can be.  However, I think I may have discovered why you are so tired.  It is all that changing clothes you do.  :)  Well I suppose that has little to do with the tiredness.

Gloria, I was using a mouse on my Chromebook computer that would work a little bit and then halt for a few second and start working again.  I thought there was something wrong with the computer until I replaced the mouse and the halting is gone, which makes using the Chromebook much more enjoyable.  Glad you like your new keyboard and mouse.

Thank you all for the postings.  I read each and everyone.  Hope all have a good day.

Ah, the good ole days!  My mischievous years were in the late 40's.  I thought I was probably getting away with a lot of things but in a small eastern KS town where everyone knew my mom and dad I probably didn't get away with anything!  I remember one Halloween when 6 of us thought it would be fun to drive out into the country looking for "something to do".  Stopped at a little country church and looked for some Halloween trickery we could get into but didn't find much of anything so we turned on the car radio and all 3 couples began dancing on the concrete well cover.  Pretty soon, out of the darkness, I heard this deep voice behind me saying, "What are you kids doing here?"  I turned around and looked down both barrels of a double-barreled shotgun.  None of us said a word...we just all got in the car and drove away and never looked back.  Seems funny now but it scared the bejeebers out of us then.

Busy, and a little frustrating, day yesterday but slept good last night and got up feeling refreshed this morning.  I don't plan much for today but have to make some peanut butter.  I'll put some in the hidey hole for those of you who don't mind having your teeth get stuck together.   ;D

my sister and I couldn't get away with anything when we were kids. On my block everyone knew us but my aunt lived 2 doors down. My second grade teacher lived across the street and my Sunday school teacher lived up the street. My dancing teacher lived a few doors down. If my mother didn't know the rest of the people my grandparents did. And I had an aunt and an uncle who taught school. Talk about being watched!

Yes, Lloyd, I make my own peanut butter.  I buy a can of low salt peanuts and put them in the food processor and run that until the peanut butter is the consistency that I want. It takes a few minutes.  I don't add oil or salt or sugar or anything.  Just peanuts.  It has be stored in the fridge because it doesn't have any preservatives in it.  We love it....can't tolerate the store bought kind at all.  Too sweet and doesn't taste fresh to us.

In our neighborhood, the adults all looked after all of the children.  I don't think we ever did anything bad, but with so many parents looking after us, we really didn't dare.  At school, my dad was a teacher there and I didn't want to do anything that would embarrass him.  Norm didn't have that hang up.  I don't know that he embarrassed Dad but Norm let it all hang out!

The cookies are delicious.  There are sugar cookies with caramel drizzled on them, peanut butter, chocolate chip (2 doz of them) and chocolate (very rich).  I put each kind in a ziploc bag and they're in the freezer now.  I only gained a pound over what I usually gain during the day.

I'm going to have my hearing checked later today.  It has been three years plus since I got my last hearing aids.

Amy, One of our homes had redwood siding so it required an application of redwood stain more often than paint. I freeze on ladders, so my husband would paint the top areas and I would follow along doing the lower areas. It worked out well for both of us.

I was up and into the shower at seven a.m. and will be going down to the Bible studies at 10 My son Gary is teaching today so I would be there if I had to borrow a wheel chair.  It is going to be 90 degrees today and I am already perspiring..darn.

Larry, I am laughing out loud about your comment on changing clothes. Probably very true, and I will probably breakout laughing again as I dress this morning. Fortunately my bed is adjacent to my clothes closet so if I tire or loose my balance it is right there to sit on.

Now I must scoot……time for my ensure, and then on down to Prayer meeting. Of course I still have to get dressed..ha ha ha………

Janie--First, I came from a small town and everyone knew everyone else.  Second, my mother was a teacher in the school system there, so we knew we had to behave ourselves.

Phyllis--Your homemade peanut butter sounds very good.

Mary Ann--Like you, I had a parent in the school system.  Bet Norm might have pulled a few pranks.

June--I know you especially enjoy when your Gary comes to do the Bible Study.  It's pretty warm here today, too, but at least it's not as humid as it has been.

Good morning everyone, still having scattered rain, supposed to be like this till Sunday. Just gloomy days.

JOAN  so much for sleeping late yesterday, last night I could not get to sleep. Got up and read quite a few pages in a book before I started feeling sleepy again, that was after 3am and then the phone woke me just before 8. When I like a certain brand of things I will not be happy with any other kind.

CALLIE  that is a big jump, moving to NY City for Ellen. I wish her the best of luck to fulfill her dreams.

SHIRLEY  wow all those computers and they all gave you trouble. I have been frustrated with this one but with 4 I really would really have been screaming.

JANE  I agree with you, I would love to try every thing that is put into the hidey hole.

JOAN  will enjoy cinnamon toast and some fruit. Chuckles is a good one, lie and it will always come to haunt you later.

My CNA has been here and just left. Now I will finish reading.

JOAN  love the Blind Horse. That is a keeper. Good quote, Billy Graham was a wise man. Have a good time out and doing your errands.

LARRY  it is great not fighting with that mouse, I threw it out to make sure I would never use it again. No more hitting 2 keys either they do not take much to go down when I tap them.

Gee I missed out on a lot of fun/trouble way back when. I never got into trouble, too quiet for the fun kids.

I also grew up in a small town.   I remember one prank that was never pinned on my bunch and learned as an adult that my parents thought I was in on some others....when I wasn't!
We never seemed to figure out that, when certain people weren't in class last hour, the principal would always get suspicious...particularly since the mother of one friend taught at the high school.
I know we were all put in after-school detention a couple of times - but we always managed to talk our way into having in the typing room "so we could catch up".    Not too sure it was typing we caught up on, though.

My activities so far this week have been to get my hearing aids adjusted and be measured for new braces for my feet. After 10 years, the ones I have are wearing out.
Also went to the $ store and, as usual, found things I didn't know I needed until I saw them.

Looks as if an armadillo has been digging in my back yard.   Tomorrow's project will be to spray the smelly stuff around and see if that convinces it to go elsewhere.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a lovely day.

Good morning!

When I was growing up, my mom was the secretary to the high school librarian, and my father was the director of the city's public works department. So they, particularly my dad, knew or had heard about us long before the school called. He knew all the police and firefighters and city workers, and she knew all the different schools' personnel. Add to that, a next door neighbor who had a telescope mounted in front of her picture window and we were sunk.

My favorite and last prank was on a day that was traditional if unofficially, named senior prank day. Each year's seniors completed for the most outstanding prank. 0n that day, the principal's VW suddenly showed up on the roof of the high school, and no one ever knew how that happened!

I, of course, was and have always been entirely innocent of any and all pranks...  :angel2:

However, I did hear a whisper about a maintenance lift and a small group wearing secret smiles all day.  :grouphug:

Sandy--Yes, these are the good days.

Callie--When I lived in Arkansas,  I had an armadillo get under the house--built with a crawl space underneath.  All of the ductwork was under the house.  I kept hearing a scratching kind of noise so called my Pest Control.  The  man went under the house and here came this giant armadillo scooting out.  It had chewed up the insulation around the ductwork and even some of the ductwork.  I cost me $8,000 to have all new ductwork put in.  I REALLY dislike the things.

Angelface--You didn't stand much of a chance of getting mischief with all those folks watching you.

Joan,  they can be VERY destructive!  My neighbor thought she had one but it turned out to be little holes where squirrels making a winter storehouse.   We went together to get some spray for them and other destructive critters but I hadn't done my yard, yet.   There's no wind today so, as soon as I can get the bottle from her, I'll get busy.

When I was in college, a skunk got into the crawl space under my bedroom at home, which was separate from the area of the house over the basement.  Wow - what a shock when I came home for a weekend and walked into my room!!!!!  I slept on the couch!

Been a strange sort of day, well a different day really.....I got R to take me to an MS Therapy Centre which was our second nearest although 60 miles away in the next County of Devon, ok my hour or two spent there went to plan but on the way home, still following my printed out AA route-planner map, we came to a police cordoned off stretch on an A road, we were beckoned to turn left and do a detour...well this detour took us miles and miles with no signs we recognised for turning, so on we went, oh yes we were going in the correct direction as no signs gave any inclination as to its mileage distances, so you could imagine our surprise when this detour took us away from Dorset into the next county of Somerset after seeing the sign...not that we saw much of anything apart from driving higher and overlooking the landscaped scenic's of a far distance,.....as most of these roads and lanes were out in the far sticks and bends, with a handful of not recognised village names as we had to continue driving through them to get to our destination of Dorchester, only then did we know where we were......All we know is this detour added an extra hour to our homeward bound journey....To be honest I found it quite a fun trip not having a clue as to where we were or where we would be landing up when we got there....

Callie, I read somewhere that mothballs were good to keep critters away from the house, berm, garden, etc... I bought a $1 bag at the Dollar Tree a few years ago & threw some into the berm where lots of critters loved to snuggle in (skunks, opossum, raccoons, etc).  Nobody has visited since & mothballs have long gone.  Only found them at the Dollar TREE.  Beautiful day in KS, I need to vac the neighbor's locust leaves out of the pool.... not a favorite thing to do but they stain the floor if they sit in one spot too long.   :tissue:

Shirley, I've heard the same thing about moth balls - but I suspect our squirrels would just bury them!!!!
Talk about ornery!!!!
I "grease" the pole of the birdseed pole with petroleum jelly and I surely do get glares and tail swishings aimed at the window when a squirrel thinks it can jump to the top - and slides right back down.  <evil chuckle here>

I honestly don't know if I went to the Dollar Tree or the Dollar Store today.  It's "the one by Kohl's".    ;D

Callie--You are so right that they can be destructive.  On my street two of them burrowed under a neighbor's inground pool and did thousands of dollars worth of damage.  Skunk--PU!!

Janie--Hopefully you are having a nice nap.

Vanilla-Jackie--You sure were forced to take a big detour.  At least you saw some new scenery.

Shirley--If you use moth balls you want to make sure there are no small children around.  When Joe was less than 2 y/o he was out in the front yard with me while I talked to the next door neighbor.  She detested cats and dogs and loaded the areas around plantings with moth balls.  Joe darted away from me and in a flash ate a moth ball.  It took three big spoons of Ipecac (1/2 hour apart) to get him to upchuck.

If you have diabetes, have gallstones or heart problems among others, please read this about eating ginger. Ginger is in some baked items, many oriental foods, and other surprising areas. It is dangerous, similar to grapefruit. For example, if you are taking blood thinners or anticlotting medicines, it could have an adverse effect.

You are so right, Joan, about leaving moth balls where kids can get hold of them.  Far as I know animals are smart enough to NOT eat!  The berm is in the back yard which is "regulation fenced" because of the pool (we also have another fence around the pool).  None of my kids ever ate anything I had to worry about.... I'll bet you were terrified!

We haven't had a skunk or raccoon around in ages, not sure if it is because a sick raccoon was behind the house at the back garage door & animal control came out to capture since there had been rabid skunks caught in the county.... the lady that came with the long pole & hangman noose said she was pretty sure it was distemper.... which can stay in the ground for years to kill any animals not vaccinated.  It hasn't harmed the cats & they didn't get shots for that.

At any rate, a dollar bag of moth balls (or something) ended the critters digging up Cas' lawn in the back.  He prided himself with having the greenest lawn the earliest in the spring... at least until the last few years.  Not only skunks & raccoons digging up the grubs under the grass, we had a yellow hammerhead or flicker (woodpecker) .... I have lots of photos of it but have never been able to identify it online.... would pull up chunks of grass to get to the grubs & hammer on the transformer at the corner of the fence.  Crazy bird still around this year but guess we don't have enough grubs to dig! It was bamming on the transformer.....

Jackie, Richard seems to be awful good about taking day trips with you.  The move has been good for both of you, hasn't it?      We did some of our best sight seeing when I got us lost.... I have no sense of direction & had a knack for pointing the wrong way if on a detour.  Cas was always "taking short cuts" so I would lose track of where we were on the maps.  Long before GPSs....

Callie, I have a ceramic plate like a sunflower that holds my birdseed... hangs from chains attached on 3 sides that gather to a single one that slips on a shepherd's hook... caused a lot of agony for our squirrels.  I got a photo of one hanging from the curls of the hook by back feet & helping itself to the yummy sunflower seeds.  A tap on the window & it pulled itself up & was off in a flash.  They are so funny.  Old LaurenKat spent hours on the brick post near the feeder, watching for a bird to get careless.  At TX Roadhouse they always send a bag of peanuts with my carry out... so I share them with the squirrels.

Got a busy day tomorrow, need to vac the RV & mop the floor before closing the slide & up the jacks & go gas it back up for the next trip.  Will try to wash the mud off the windshield, will hose off the whole thing first.... Going to earn some demerits tomorrow, for sure~  Love this cool weather,  ran the vac in the pool to suck up the neighbors locust leaves....  it is a nightmare of little gold leaves raining down from now until snow.  They stain the bottom if they don't get moved.  Pool sure is a lot of trouble since nobody uses it.... we shouldn't have bought the house but guess it's worth the trouble to have the river & woods behind.  Choices-choices. In the 30 years we've been here we have considered every option so think I will just endure the rest of my years here & try not to gripe too often, no place else I'd rather live.   ::)  I think I need a nap before bedtime.  :crazy2:

Mary Ann, I think of Norm so often, he seemed to have a very big & kind heart.

Patricia, I will read that because about everyone I know our age takes blood thinners, BP meds & either has heart problems or diabetes.  Thanks!

I have had the most frustrating day. The best part was Gary's Bible study. He takes the most mundane chapters and makes them come alive. He can find many comparisons between ancient times and what our lives today are proving to be. I got on the computer to place a grocery order only to find that things have changed there and my password has to be updated to something new. I followed instructions, no luck, called a phone number and spent over an hour with help, and that did not work, so I don't know what I am going to do for grocery orders. There are many things I buy that I need above and beyond anything offered here. I guess I will have to end up bothering Gary. He already solved another problem with my medical plan, bless his kind heart. So I ended my day with a great deal of things undone, and a great deal of dissatisfaction.

Good things though, I get to keep my doctor,by changing my medical plan with the government to match the plan she has...again thanks to Gary. And I got the yearly flu shot, and I have gained another three pounds, so the Ensure is working for me.

Baby Jesus Grows Up, Let's Follow Suit!
(By Kerry S. Doyal)

Are you still growing? Growing old is not the same as growing up. Few things are more tragic than immature Senior Citizens, petty people who added only years to their dossier and derriere. (That there is French for resume and rump: neither is to be padded.)

Advanced age is no excuse for childishness, it is instead an argument against it. As long as we are able, we are to keep maturing in all the ways we can. Twice, Dr. Luke in his gospel of Jesus tells us about Jesus growing up. After His birth, circumcision and presentation at the temple (Luke 2), the good Doctor tells us:

"When Joseph and Mary had done everything required by the Law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee to their own town of Nazareth. And the child grew and became strong; he was filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was upon him" (Luke 2:39, 40 - NIV).

After Jesus' parents got lost and left Him in the Temple when He was twelve, we read: "Then He went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But His mother treasured all these things in her heart. And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men" (Luke 2:51& 52).

Matthew tells us His toddler years included a trip to Africa - fleeing madman Herod's sword (Matthew 2:13-23). When Jesus' family repatriated to Roman-occupied Israel, they lived in Nazareth.

As much as we would like to speculate about Jesus as a boy, all we are left to mull over is that he was obedient to his parents and that He grew up. Mind you, these are no small matters. Even in childhood, Jesus is THE example for us.

"He grew" we read. This is an umbrella description that seems bland unless you consider its opposite. New parents watch to make sure their child is growing. If they stop progressing in any realm, they head to the Doctor.

Our Heavenly Father is monitoring our growth as well. In fact, the letters to the churches in the New Testament are properly obsessed with matters of maturity (see 2 Peter 1:5-11; 3:18; 1 Peter 2:1-3; Jude 20-25; Hebrews 2-4). Are you growing up? Have you changed much in the past years - for the good?

Getting more specific, we read that Jesus "became strong... grew in stature." Our love for God is to include our heart soul, mind and strength. Learning carpentry - which included woodwork and masonry - Jesus was a man's man. Forget those pictures of a pasty pansy in your old children's Bible.

Our bodies are even called - dramatic pause - His temple (1 Corinthians 6:12-20; 9:27)! We are to glorify God with our body. Is His temple in disrepair? How do you treat your body: getting enough sleep, eating too much?

Jesus grew, as we also must, in wisdom. He was not just a divine data depository, smart. He was "filled with wisdom." We see this when He stayed at the Temple at age 12, a pivotal year when Jewish boys transition into manhood.

He sat listening to the teachers, asking them questions - ones that astonished all who heard Him. His questions revealed such insight that they were motivated to ask His take on Scripture. Are you learning the Bible, moving past VBS-level insights? Does any one look to you for godly insight?

The mental sloppiness of God's people is criminal! What passes for teaching on much of Christian radio and TV [and pulpits] is amazing. Where is the discernment, some sane, Biblical discretion?

Spiritual counterfeits will continue to freely fleece the flock with their folly as long as believers stay ignorant and immature. Are you growing in true wisdom (see Colossians 1:15-29). A thought: read a chapter of Proverbs every day.

"God's grace was upon Him," we learn next from Luke. He grew "in favor with God." Jesus, as a human, spiritually matured. Here is a phrase for you: "He learned obedience through the things that He suffered" (Hebrews 5:8). Chew on that one. Jesus learned obedience.

We learn to obey through disobedience, God's discipline, forgiveness and restoration. Christ learned it through life's trials, being tempted by the Devil and rejected by His own people. In the Garden, He honestly states His preference to not be crucified. Yet, in the face of torture and humiliation, we hear: "Not My will but Thine." ...

Last of all, we discover that Jesus grew in favor with man. Common ones received Him gladly. Sometimes the crowds around Jesus swelled as they hoped for another free lunch and miracle show (John 6). Yet, we also know social outcasts and serious sinners felt at home in His presence. Children loved Him and they are often a great test of character.

One of the descriptions of an Elder, spiritual exemplars for the church, is that they would have a good reputation with outsiders (1 Timothy 3:7). If you often make waiters and cashiers mad, drive like a loony and regularly tick off people, you might want to look into this area of growth.

Having favor with man does not mean you are compromising truth, snuggling up to the world. What we often call persecution and rejection of Jesus by people we witness to is often the sensible reaction of hurt people whom we treat like trash (see 1 Corinthians 5:9-13; 9:19-23).

It is time to grow up, to keep pressing on (Philippians 3). As we face a still young year, repent of any stagnation in the past year. With God's help, commit to further growth in Him.

In honor of Dr. Luke, may I prescribe 2 Peter 1:5-11? If the baby Jesus grew up, so must we (1 John 2:6)!

JOAN....
...another good, but early start to both of our mornings, although I did manage to sleep an hour later than usual...

SHIRLEY....
...had to smile, but how can you admit to not having a good sense of direction? with all the long distance driving you do....( haven't you just come back from a long trip?....)...as for me, I would get lost and confused driving out of a multi store car park...

Shirley R doesnt do day or night outings, it is just me getting fed up with seeing four walls and isolation starting to settle in, if I dont force myself to join these long distance MS thingies I wouldn't get out anywhere with R, and that is the truth...but yes, he is always willing to drive me and take me to them...

JEANNE P....
...have to admit, dont think I laughed so much for a long time as I did during our detour yesterday....We were out and about six & a half hours when I anticipated a four & a half hour trip to Exeter, including one & a half hours spent at the centre...

On route out in the sticks and after heading for a place called Crewkerne, unknown to us and as we soon learned, in Somerset, R stopped at a small car repair -mechanic building to ask for help, ( now baring in mind he would NEVER admit he was lost ) while I sat in the car when all of a sudden a man came to my car and asked " are you lost " I laughed and said I guess so...after telling him where we were trying to head for he told us to keep going on, that going on lasted for miles....I did kindly ask him if they had a loo I could use as I had MS, he kindly allowed me...not the nicest of loos but that didnt matter...it was a loo...

Good morning , Joan and all the other early morning friends.

Joan, the little mini coffee cakes sound like a nice treat this morning.  Thank you !

It will be a very rainy day today and continue until the week end.  Some places will experience a lot of flooding.   One town here in Maryland, Ellicott City, experienced devastating flooding over a month ago and the town is bracing for more flooding.  They were just starting to be able to open up some of the shops and hopefully, they will be ahead of the rain this time, and be able to prevent more devastation.   But, we really do need the rain........ just not all at the same time.

Nothing special going on in my little world. I was able to get 4 loads of laundry done yesterday.  I had some winter things that I had been pushing aside and was able to get most of them done.  Our washers run for 30 min. and the dryers run for 60 min. So, I am able to get 2 washer loads out of one dryer time.  I can add extra money to make the dryers run another 10 or 20 min.  Since they are big commercial machines,  it doesn't take as long as a regular machine.  Didn't get them all put away yet, but that is a job for this morning.  Plus there are some things that I don't put in the dryer and they have dried on a rack in bathroom.  So, need to get things put away.

Joan, I don't think that is considered work, is it????  Have to have clean clothes .  One of the necessary jobs in life.   Would be nice to have throw-away clothes, wouldn't it???

Hope all the friends will have a nice day.

Joy

Well my normal Thursday.  Getting myself presentable, a quick cup of coffee here at home and then off to men's breakfast and bible study.  I might add that it is an enjoyable morning.  I enjoy the study and fellowship, not to mention the taco. ;)

Weather guy promises us a beautiful day, cool, clear and lots of sunshine.  Wife is going down to Del Rio with youngest daughter and will come back with them on Monday.  She wants to visit an old friend who is in a nursing home, she is slowing losing her memory.

Everyone have a great day and don't work too hard.

Hi everyone on this Thursday morning.  I got out early and did the morning outside chores.  This is a busy day for me so will try to be brief with comments today.  Yesterday I stayed home until time to go to the church for the Wednesday evening meal.  Scott called late yesterday afternoon to say he was not up to going and was fighting a migraine headache he had had for two days.  I sure hope he is better this morning.  So I went by myself.  Since I was on the list for two meals I paid for both and brought one home.  It was "breakfast in the evening" last night so I am enjoying a full breakfast this morning and sure won't need to have any lunch, which will work out well as I won't get home until around 1 pm and I will be ready for some rest so won't have to fool with lunch.

Lloyd, sounds like a great idea to help out Nancy with the laundry by not having to go to the lower level of your home.

Gloria, I also threw out the mouse that wasn't working properly.

Patricia, I have heard of noisy neighbors but having a telescope in your front window seems to be pushing it.  I hope she was using it to watch the stars and not the neighbors.  I bet the principal was not a happy camper with his car on top of the high school.  Glad it didn't come crashing through the roof.

Joan, I can relate to the damage that varmints can do to a home.  At one of our homes squirrels got into our roof area and would eat on the wiring.  They built a nest and also chewed through the shingles on the roof.  That cost me about $4,000 for a new roof and getting the nest cleaned out and putting in metal plate around the eaves to prevent a repeat of the damage.

Jackie, that sounds like quite an adventure.  However, it is frustrating when there are no signs so you can have an idea of about where you are.  At least you saw some new country.

Shirley, when I think about at all the places we lived before GPS I shudder and wonder how we found our way around new towns and areas.  Of course, we really didn't have any other options other than a city map or stopping to ask for directions.

June, glad the Ensure is helping you put on a little weight as it sounds like you need it.  I have been trying without success to change my Yahoo information because of the massive breach into their computers.  So far no luck but there were a half billion accounts involved.

Good morning, Larry.  Sorry Scott is having migraines--they are awful.  We had the same problem you did with squirrels.  The varmints did just what they did to you--and it was megabucks to repair.

Must get ready to head out to the doctor.

Good morning everyone, the sun is shining at last here and it looks wonderful after a few days of drizzle.

JOAN  I always enjoy getting out for a few hours but am always glad to get back home so I can lay down to rest my back. When our computers work good we never think much about them but when they act up we sure hate them.

CALLIE  I am beginning to think I missed out on a lot of fun by not growing up in a small town.

PATRICIA  that is what I would call a nosy neighbor who liked seeing what was going on all over town.

JACKIE  I remember getting those detour signs and not knowing where I would end up. Thought I was lost a few times but just kept on going till I came out in a familiar area. Started saying I went for a mystery ride.

SHIRLEY  I had raccoons after my trash barrel and no matter how I weighted down the cover they got the cover off. I bought some mothballs and put some in a net bag and tied it to the handle of the barrel. No more trouble after that.

JUNE  I will get my flu shot this afternoon. I drink 2 bottles of Ensure every day and still keep losing weight.

JOAN  a mini muffin or 2 will be great this morning. Good excuse in Chuckles. Thank you for today's goodies.

LLOYD  you are back to working all the time again. Must mean you are feeling much better. Do not work too long and hard.

Have a good day.

Jackie, I am always interested in the places you visit in your area, whether on a detour or not, because my ancestors were from the Dorset and Somerset areas.  Of course they were far enough back that I can't relate to them, but some of the towns are in my genealogy.

It is getting time for me to get a flu shot.  I can get one at Walgreen's or my doctor's office.

I remember visiting a friend who had squirrels in the attic.  I don't know when they were able to get rid of them, but I heard the squirrels running in the upstairs.  Not for me!

I have always been a good map reader, however, I know one time my dad and I were traveling in Michigan's UP and we ended up in a farmer's front yard!  No GPS then.

Gloria--I got my flu shot this morning at the doctor's.  It was another time of hurry up and wait.  I was seen 1 hour and 15 min. after my appointment time.

Mary Ann--I usually get my flu shot at Walgreens, but this appointment happened to be at the time of year to get them, so I got it.

June--Good luck getting straightened out with Von's so you can order groceries online.

While I contact my doctor's office about a flu shot, I don't get it directly from his office unless I'm there for another reason.  I'll have to e-mail them to refresh my memory.  Joan, I did not have to wait long the last time I got the shot there.

Today it's been raining all day and I really feel a bit "puny" so I decided to try and finish up what I was doing yesterday when I got home from work. Do you know how hard it is to finish doing NOTHING?  You never seem to be able to finish that. And I have yet to determine when or if I,m finished.

I sure hope you are all having a better day than I am. Gloria, I have an idea how you felt without your computer.

JanieS,  So sorry about your computer woes.   :hugs:

It's a beautiful day and I've spent most of my morning (not necessarily what anyone else would call "the" morning  ;)) outside - pulling annuals out of the big pots.  That required soaking them first because it's been so dry and the root balls were very large and tough.
Will have to wait 'til evening for the other big pot.  It's near the hummingbird feeder and there are too many bees that didn't appreciate my interrupting their "work".
Not many hummers around now so, although I'll leave it out for the migrating stragglers, I doubt that I'll be filling it again until next year.

Jackie,  the distance you drove yesterday would be like "going across town" for me.   I'd love to go wandering around the English countryside.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a lovely day.

Wow, I have never seen it so quiet in here. I have to reregister for my Grocery shopping..I got so frustrated and so worn out yesterday that I decided to just stay away for another day, and then if I can't manage to get back on, I'll call Gary and see if he can help me out. I don't feel I should ask one of our techs here to do that for me...it is more of a personal problem than an electrical thing.

I did go down for lunch today, and brought half of it home for supper. They give monstrous servings. You can request half a serving, but I prefer to take it home and eat in my own place. Then I went to our Choir practice for singing at Christmas programs, then on to balance and exercise class.

I received the flu shot yesterday but noticed today that it was a bruise about the size of a quarter, plus a slight swelling, so I went down to the clinic to have it checked. Two nurses looked at it, and on said, "Oh.....I did that !" And she looked so embarrassed, the other nurse said, "You should have done it below the muscle." The one that gave me the shot looked like she was about to cry, so I assured her it didn't hurt and not to worry about it. I bruise so easily, so one more doesn't bother me.

Bis, I hope your storm is bringing much needed rain to your area. I'll check it out on the computer to satisfy my curiosity.

Janie, sorry you are not up to par.  Hope they get your puter fixed pronto and you get back on line with a machine you are comfortable with.  But don't forget on your pad you can enlarge you type by spreading your fingers.

I have been watching the Houston/U. Conn game and Houston is putting it on them.

June, hope you get you Von's problem solved.  Have you tried telling them you forgot password and let them send you a reset?

Bed time for bozo, my old pup is mopping around looking for the wife, she worries like a human if one of the family is missing.

CEO Speech

The CEO was scheduled to speak at an important convention, so he asked one of his employees, Jenkins, to write him a punchy 20-minute speech. When the CEO returned from the big event, he was furious. "What's the idea of writing me an hour-long speech?" he demanded. "Half the audience walked out before I finished."

Jenkins was baffled. "I wrote you a 20-minute speech," he replied. "I also gave you the two extra copies you asked for."

Circle of Light

By Keith Mannes
Scripture Reading: James 2:14-26

As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.
James 2:26
God started sending homeless travelers and misfits of all kinds to the small church we had started. One of those people was Dwayne.
Dwayne was tall, with swept-back silver hair, a black-leather vest, and cowboy boots. He was a soft-spoken, gentle, and wise believer. Sometimes, however, his alcoholism would attack like a shark and take him in its jaws to the depths. Nonetheless, my friend Ron welcomed Dwayne into his home with us.
One night Dwayne’s shark came, with the result that he got beat up in a bar. I found him passed out in a cheap hotel, with his face bludgeoned and vomit all over his shirt. I called church member Dick, and Dick called Ron, and they called Andy, and then they called me back, with instructions: “After you’re done, come to Ron’s.” So I let the air out of all the tires on Dwayne’s car so he couldn’t go anywhere, and I left.
It was late at night when I drove into Ron’s driveway. But I could see, through the front window, that all the guys were there, huddled under a light at Ron’s table. They were making phone calls, trying to find a treatment facility. Ron said he’d pay, and the other guys said they’d help.
I remember them sitting in that glowing circle of light. Sanc¬ti¬fication means that you do Jesus-like things in the world.
Lord, the needs of people overwhelm me. Show me which ones to get involved with. Help me to help you serve them with your love, please. Amen.

Good morning, Lloyd.  Glad you enjoy using Skype.

Janie--Good morning.  We had so many short storms yesterday afternoon and early evening.  They made my computer shut down and all the TVs go blank.  I finally got so tired starting things up again that I just went and watched TV.  I'll join you for coffee.

Good morning, Amy.  You sure did have a long day yesterday.  Take it slow and easy today getting the gazebo down.

Good morning.  We just MIGHT have some sunshine today.  That would be nice.  Flooding south of us around Ft. Bragg/Fayetteville is still bad.  They had 10 inches of rain day before yesterday.  We had just a little over an inch here at my house.

No plans today except minor household things and stopping now and then to watch the Ryder Cup.  I always like that tournament....it can get very exciting.

Good Morning Everyone!

Janie, you can pour me a cup.  Black

Phyliss, that is exactly what I plan today.  Just to watch some of the Ryder cup.
Did you see this yesterday?   http://www.fox9.com/sports/208674339-story (http://www.fox9.com/sports/208674339-story)

Sounds like some of you are getting some bad storms, hope no one suffers any damage or injury.

Got to get around and open the house up and start my day.  Haven't done much but let the pup out to check the estate and do her business.

Jackie, Lady, my pup, loves all the family.  I swear sometime she is going to wag her rear end off when some of the kids come in.  She is all over them, you would think they were her long lost pups.  Ginger, my chow I had before this one was the same way.  She loved and looked forward to seeing all the family.
Lady is gentle as can be and Ginger was also.

Got to get with it.

Good morning again. I was here 3 hours ago and wrote a post but cable went down and I  lost it. No internet, no TV and no phone.  Just because I woke early and felt rested and was here before the sunrise. Cox had to mess up.

Got my flu shot yesterday down stairs. Like the way an RN comes here with the shots. We have to sign up so she knows how many to bring. It was a nice day so some of us sat out on the porch for a few hours. Thar fresh air must have got to me because I was in dreamland by 8:30. Was wide awake at 3:30.

JOAN  thank you for all today's goodies.

JANE  at least with your PC you have good techs working on it, not like the dummies that HP has. All they do is set it back to original settings. I am tired of having to reinstall every thing again.  Would love to join you for a cup of coffee.  Had mine 3 hours ago.

AMY  that pre-op at the hospital  takes too long. Went through that when I had my shoulder done. That was 6 years ago.

JOAN  no storm here, not even raining and Cox went out again. Was out for for at least 3 hours.

Have a good day everyone and hope there is no cable shut down for any of us.

PHYLLIS  we had a little sunshine yesterday but today is back in the clouds and will have rain later.

HAL  that guy was sure lucky with that putt. My son's last dog was like that with me. When I would drive into the yard she knew the sound of my car and she would be at the door waiting for them to open it. I would open the door and she would try to get up on my lap talking the whole time. Then she was like my shadow following me where ever I went. I house sat for them a few times when they went on vacation and she would greet them when they got home but never as happy as when I was there

Good morning, on this last day of September.

Joan, thank you for the omelets this morning.  I will have a cheese one.  Hope your area is finished with the rain and storms,  Looks like another hurricane/tropical storm on it's way up the coast.

It has been raining here for the past couple days.  Supposed to be just lightly today and start to clear off tomorrow.  And, it is still a little chilly.  Supposed to be back to the 70's and sunny most of all next week.

Gloria, we had someone from the health department come to our place to give flu shots, but it was back at the end of August. I called my doctor's office and they said it was really too early. They weren't starting to give them until the end of Sept.   So, I have an appointment in two weeks.

Hal, I am not into golf, but I did see that guy make that shot on the news.  He sure was excited.  I think they said he received $100.  That was easy and quick money for him.

Hope every friend will have a wonderful Friday.

Joy

Hi everyone.  It is 65 degrees here this morning, which is the coolest temperature we have had for months.

Yesterday was a very busy day as Thursdays usually are.  While at the restaurant the follow I pick up on Thursdays litterly had to be picked up as he lost his balance and fell backward to the floor.  The only damage was a scraped top part of his hand. He fell into a table that slid away but apparently broke the impact of the fall.  He is a tall man but not steady on his feet.  After my Wisdom group at Church yesterday morning I stopped at the Dollar Tree store to get birthday cards for Pat to use in the card ministry she does for our Sunday School class and finally at Aldi's for some vegetables.  I felt good yesterday so didn't come home exhausted but was sure ready for a rest period.  Pat suggested that we go out to eat dinner and I certainly didn't argue with her.

Joan, we heard from Scott again last evening.  He still had the migraine but was able to keep food and water down and was at work just trying to keep from thinking about the headache.

June, I hope you got your grocery ordering re-registered.  If not perhaps the young lady at your living facility would help you again so you don't become so frustrated. I bet the young lady wouldn't see it as a burden but something to make one of the resident's life more enjoyable. When I had my flu shot the other day the pharmacist told me she had given it in the muscle and I couldn't even see where it had been given the next morning.

Gloria, glad you got to sit out on the porch and visit.  Perhaps during the next few weeks you will be able to do more of that before cold weather set in.

JaneS, sure hope that puny feeling has passed.  It is hard to finish up nothing.

Callie, I decided this morning it is time to stop watering the hanging basket that Pat can see from her easy chair as it is looking bad and no more flowers.  Mine is still on its third season of petunia blooms although the flowers are much smaller.  The Marigolds are still blooming.  I think the hummers are about through here as well as the feeder isn't going down very quickly and I haven't seen one for awhile.

Good morning, Phyllis.  Enjoy watching golf.

halkel--Good morning.  I saw what was in your link on TV--lucky fella.

Gloria--Good morning.  Sorry your internet went down when you were trying to post.  Is your arm a bit sore from the flu shot?  Mine is.

Joy--Last month when I was at the doctor I asked about the flu shot, and he told me to wait until yesterday's appointment.

Good morning, Larry.  Glad your friend wasn't seriously injured when he fell.  I hope Scott has gotten relief from the migraine.

Janie--Glad to read you feel better today.

Good morning from the Interior, still awaiting the promised snow that has yet to come.

I went visiting and shopping with friends and bought Farrah a large blue ring with a yellow ball inside. I was hesitant as the other cats I've had quickly figured out how to take the toy out of the ring.

Farrah was not impressed although she ignores the balls she already has so I should have known better to purchase a $12.00 toy when she doesn't play with the ones she has, (I sound like a parent!). I tried putting in treats but she smelled them, sat by the ring but made no effort for the treats.

So, I got the idea of sticking in the toy one of her felt mice and playing around with it while she looked on. I then left her alone with the toy. She got that one out after  lying on her back, turning her head sideways and scrutinizing all angles, trying first her teeth and then a paw to lift it out from underneath or on the middle ring opening.

So I think that is a toy she will occasionally play with if I initiate her interest. Ah well, lesson learned. Since she enjoys catching her mice and sitting on her haunches to fling them away, only to chase them down, then why would she play with a ball in a ring?

I was really tired and lay down on the couch to read. I kept finding myself opening my eyes repeatedly so set the book aside for a nap somewhere between three or four. Lo and behold, it was one am when I woke back up, washed my face, went to bed to toss and turn until after three am. I just woke up at eight am.

I had my first and only flu shot in 2005. I had never had the flu but all my friends were telling me to get one. I did and within 24 hours had a terrible, fourteen-day, feverish  case of the flu. First time in my life that I have had chills running up and down my arms and  legs. I decided after that to skip the flu shots and have never had a case of flu since!

Angelface--Like you say, cats are like kids.  You buy kids an expensive toy and they would rather play with the box it came in.  Sorry you had such a bad experience with the flu shot.

Good aternoon, on another bad day, it is raining with gale force winds. Quite cool. Just home from Homemakers.

Did not start off as a good day, first I overslep, as my friend was going to pick me up at 9. Next I had a nose bleed, had to pack that. i was teaching a knitting class to make gloves to day, so had to go to Homemakers, So packed my nose, got half way to Jamesport, and realized I forgot my hearing aides. I had 10 people in the class, two did not know how to pearl (knitting stitch) Now I am home, and nearly everyone said they enjoyed the class.  Of course they were being kind to and old lady. I am lucky just one side of my nose acting up.

Hal, I really enjoyed that video. I will be watching all weekend.

Gloria, it is raining and very windy here, suppose to rain until Wed. We do need it.

Joan, I will have a Swiss cheese omelet, thanks

JaneS, glad to see you feeling better

Larry, glad your friend was not hurt, but I am sure it upset you.

Hope everyone else has a good day. I am tired right now.

Patricia, I have given up buying Taffy toys, she like things like my Jewlery, or my panic botton, she even had that one day, runing across the floor.  Are you alergic to eggs, they tell you not to get the flu shot.

Linedancer--Sorry you had such a bad start to your day.  You're lucky you can pack your own nose and don't have to go to the ER.  Your Swiss cheese omelet is in the "hidey hole" waiting for you.

No June yet today.  Maybe she's busy placing her online grocery order.

I hope that everyone  has a good day!

The brick mason showed up a little after breakfast and just as he was getting set up to work on the steps it started to rain again.  Rained hard for awhile and he said he would be back tomorrow....weather permitting.  I am really getting very tired of this almost daily rain.  Hopefully he can get here and get the job done.

Hal, I did see that heckler make that putt.  So funny and the looks on the faces of the pro players was priceless.  I imagine that he will frame that 100.00 bill that the players signed for him.  And he'll be telling that story for the rest of his life!

Hope June is OK and we'll hear from her soon.

I am late again today, and will have go down for lunch before I get finished gabbing attcha. My housekeeper arrived early, changed all the linens, and came back later to finish cleaning the bathroom. Next week is "deep" cleaning.

Hal, I spent about 90 minutes with the grocery order helper, and she gave me two alternate pass words. Neither of them would take, so I gave up. Only to find that I was stuck with an alternate password for 48 hours that I don't intend to fool around with. She also changed me from the Safeway program to Von's, same company. I may try to make a new entry to the Von's site, and if that doesn't work, my Gary said to let him know and he would come over and fix me up. It truly wears me out physically now to run into any type of problem, so I am extra, extra glad I have Gary to call on, plus I have given him Power of Attorney which really makes me feel great.

Went down for lunch, had a delicious beef dip sandwich, a vegetable salad, a glass of tomato juice and coffee. Brought half of it home for supper.
Also brought home a cup of ice cream, and a brownie cookie. I am stuffed.

Hal,someone told me years ago that a Chow was inclined to bite. Lady, and your previous Chow certainly proves that to be wrong. It may be the Chow this person knew was a great dog but not kindly treated. Any animal would bite if the human hurt them…so would I.

Gloria, Our doctors are directed by Rowntree when to bring the flu shots once a year, so when each residents Dr. arrives we have received the shot.

Larry, I'm going to try one more time to connect with Von's grocery and if I can't do it, my son says he will be glad to come over and take care of it for me. God sure blessed me with a couple of good, loving sons. I glad Pat does the card thing for your Church. That is so needful, and so appreciated by others, and it is good for her too, having an outside interest like that.

Janie, I am SO happy to hear you had a full nights sleep. With all you do, especially your work at W.M. you need a good nights solid sleep. I usually sleep all through the night, but rarely a wide-awake will happen, but seldom.

Bis, I'm here, but keep getting distracted with one think or another. Another case of mind wandering out of control.

Phyllis, I am here dear, and I apologize for being late. my own fault. How I would love if you could share your rain with us here in Ca. we are in such dire need of a good strong wash down.

I wish I had seen that Golf incident. I know so little about where to find what on t.v. My husband always took care of viewing that, while I worked on my computer.

Mary Ann, thank you SO much for giving me that entry into the famous putt. It was truly a thrill to see it happen, and from the little amount of golf I have ever played, I experienced the thrill the man must have felt to see that ball go into the cup. Once in a life time !

Bis, Gary was here, he got my order placed and it will be delivered tomorrow. What a Blessing he is to me.He even placed my order. I tried to check in later just to see if I could, and my password was not accepted, so I notified Gary and put the problem in his hands. again....what would I do without him Bis? He is kindness personified. He even offered to do my ordering for me from now on, but I want to retain as much responsibility as I can. I'm sure you know my feelings.

Gloria de., I'm not allergic to eggs. I am allergic to a chemical used to prolong shelf life in foods such as microwavable, many types of commercially  canned food, convenience or fast food. I am also lactose intolerant.

I rarely get colds and when I do, they tend to be bad, but short lived. I had never had the flu before that shot and I've never had it since so I have no plans to repeat the experience!

There is so much information out there about every type of pet or animal around, and probably 99.95% is false. Not only that but animals are different from one another, the same as people.

If you have a purebred, you can use the breed guidelines but remember these are only averages or guidelines and again not every animal will behave in that manner.

One thing that absolutly frustrates me and angers me is when horrible rumors are treated as fact. I do not know how many times I have been told, quite sincerely, that a cat can kill a human baby by smothering it. Supposedly, a cat scents milk on the baby's mouth, and this causes the cat to suffocate the child. Really?!?

The majority of adult animals are lactose intolerant. Now this doesn't mean they won't drank milk or eat dairy, just that it isn't good for them.

Chows are said, as a breed to be aggressive or biters, but again, not always. It depends more on their experiences, training, or simply out of fear. My cat was feral and mistreated and spent two months literally under my bed. Now Farrah thinks we're roommates!

We got our Chow when she was a pup, barely weened.  She was never abused by us, seldom scolded, never needed it.  When we got her she did not like men, me included, don't know why.  We always figured that maybe the folks who had her had a boy who was abusive to her.  She had no fear of women.  But as she aged she warmed to me.  I remember two instances where she surprised me with her conduct.  One she got a pad of her paw caught in our fence and she was screaming, yes actually screaming, and I ran out and saw what had happened and knew, without a doubt, she was fixing to take a bite of me when I attempted to free her.  Was I ever wrong, she appeared to recognize that I was there to help and when I grabbed her leg and leaned against the fence to open the space between boards she did nothing but stand and let me do what I had to.  The second time was when she was just a big pup she got out of the backyard somehow while we were away to a movie.  When we turned the corner at the bottom of our hill she recognized the car and run to the front door of our house and waiting to be let in.  She never again would go out of our yard, even if we urged her to, without a lead on.  In those days I walked a lot, daily, and took her along, if she dilly dallied I would drop the leash and walk away, she would immediately come to me and want her lead pickedup and then she was quite happy to walk along with me.  She did one time attack another dog, one that continually ran out into the street and dare her, finally the Poodle got too close and Ginger grabbed her, shook her like a rag doll and released her as I told her to and the Poodle took off back to it's house.  I was waiting for someone to come out of the house, but they didn't.  Funny, we never had a problem again.

;D

It really just depends. We had a moose one severe winter, who would sleep in our backyard and the kids would bring it apples and carrots and would pet it's nose until an adult saw it and told the kids no more touching or hand feeding. Just to drop the food and back away, also never to get behind it.

The majority of the pit bulls and bull breeds that I have known are overgrown lapdogs, but it is important never to try to handle an unknown dog, especially kids who may be too rough or frighten the animal.

The eeriest thing I ever saw or heard, was my daughter's cat named after Michael Jordan because the cat jumped very high. After my daughter's death, I returned home after a week in Anchorage, and that cat came rushing down the stairs, sniffed all around us, dashed down to the basement, back to us and then up to the second floor.  We then heard this long drawn out moaning and then a horrible long drawn out scream. Before Magic was very friendly, after that he was indifferent to people or the other cat and died the next year for no discernable reason.

Hal, Ginger came to trust and care for you. She knew you would help her.

I feel all animals are God's gift to mankind. We have no business approaching a stray animal as we have no idea of what it's personality may be. If they come to us first, accept their friendship. I would trust a stray animal before I accepted a stray person. I see no reason why one should not offer a word of greeting to either species, and let it go at that.

It is way past my "tired" feelings, so I hope I can settle down in bed and relax. It has been a trying day mentally, and I have to let go of things undone, and unsolved. Sufficient unto the day are the sins (problems) thereof.

Goodnight dear hearts, I send you all Peace, love, hugs and prayers. June

ANGELFACE...
...I am the same as you....only once in my teens and starting a new factory job, when my 9 month old baby was accepted in day nursery, did I have the flu jab when it was offered to everybody working at this factory... then would you believe I came down with a terrible cold afterwards, ok it was bitter cold Winter but, I have never taken the flu jab since....Of course now I am over the age of 65 and with my MS medical condition I am again offered it but have each time declined...( read up on, people with MS should have the flu jab and people with MS shouldn't have the flu jab as our body does the opposite as to fighting off compared to healthy peoples bodies, ) I used to have very bad colds, one after the other in my younger days, ( ok those days I did smoke cigarettes ) but dont get those colds now...Oh yes I get run down with the odd sniffles, coughs and the odd mild sore throat, maybe for a day or two but, so far that's about it....Now I have posted this I hope I haven't put the mockers on this and will come down with flu...I can only remember one very bad cold when my body literally became weak, so not sure if that was a touch of mild flu back in my 40s...

JENNY...
...good morning, good night... as I type the rain is pelting down and we have a thunder storm, just this minute dead on 7am, an almighty thunder clash, loud enough to wake everyone up on this parkhome site...Hope your weather is better...well it is the first day of October...

JUNEDRABEK...
...I would put my trust in a dog rather than any human being....far too many humans have let me down in the past to be able to trust them... so give me a dog any day, for trust, genuine affection and loyalty...with a dog " what you see, is what you get " nothing is false......

Food For Thought

Motivation Brings Results

Our twelve-year-old son D.J., was wanting a brand new bike to ride around on with his friends. One day my husband, son and I were looking at some in a well-known chain store. The more we looked the more eager my son became and this was evident by the look on his face. Wanting to please him I offered to pay for it. My husband suggested we look around in other stores, so off we went. The other store didn't have what he was looking for and running out of time we headed home without a bike.

After getting home and thinking about the bike, other thoughts of all the spring 'clean up' around our house also persisted. Putting the two together I made my son an offer, "I'll buy you the bike, but I want you to come up with half the money. There's lots of work to be done so I will pay you $5.00/hr with your help towards the 'spring clean up' to help you work for your half of the money". Whenever our children want something we usually just buy it for them and with this I wanted to teach my son to take some responsibility towards the purchase to make it more meaningful. I always find the things I have worked for tend to be more precious than something just given to me because of the time and effort it has cost me to gain the ownership.

Maybe that is why as Christians we sometimes tend to over time get so easily caught up in taking salvation for granted - the initial cost for us is nothing.

Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our LORD." (KJV)

Salvation is a free gift and the gift is eternal life. The cost for us begins over time as we STAND to be loyal to our dear LORD. The more effort we put into the relationship - the more valuable it becomes. Unfortunately we often mix this up with 'doing' things for Christ that are of little value if not founded in the desire to serve Him and bring glory to His name.

Matthew 16:24,27 "Then said Jesus unto His disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me." "For the Son of man shall come in the glory of His Father with His angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works." (KJV)

As time went on my son became more intent on his work. On a Saturday helping my husband with the outside chores, my husband opted for a break indoors but my son refused; he wanted his bike and the reward was getting closer.

Before our son had completely earned his half, the bike he wanted came on sale. Not wanting to miss out on the savings I offered to buy it, but he couldn't ride it until he had his half paid for. He then worked harder. The following Friday evening it was raining and he asked to go to a friend's house; agreeing to bring him there I was surprised a short while later when he began to look for inside chores to pay his 'debt'. For three hours he washed the bathroom floor, the entranceway, stairs, tidied the basement and did the supper dishes. He wanted his bike! I said to my husband "We had a hard time to get him motivated before, but now he's going to work us out of house and home!" The end results of his efforts kept his motivation strong. In fact it changed the evenings activities.

What is it that motivates us? Do we become lax and burdened by the work before us, diminishing our efforts like my son did when there seemed to be nothing to work for and unable to see the end results; or, do we see Jesus Christ and our eternity waiting for us when our work on earth is done? Are we allowing God's promise of eternity to motivate us to keep our minds focused on the reward of following Him? , and does this reward progressively change our habits and how we consume our time?

Not only are we promised no more tears, sickness, and sorrow, but Satan will be no more. All those times in life including the irritability, attitude, everyday temptations to sin will be no more. The distractions that Satan uses us to consume our time, taking our minds, prayerful hearts off our God and our LORD Jesus Christ will be no more. We will live in total worship, this thirsting for spiritual filling will be no more - this is the promise that we will be allowed to live!

Revelation 7:16(a),17 "They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more." "For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of water and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes."

Our being motivated by God's promise of eternity brings good working results!

I didn't do much of anything after work yesterday and I do have to get some things done today. I'm not sure what I'm going to do bu I better get at something or ill turn into a blob.

The first thing I have to do is make dog food or the doggies won't be eating today. I hope Everyfriend has a lovely day and you get to do everything you want to or need to.  Go and make it a good day.

Amy--I understand.  You will be taking care of your husband for a few weeks.

Good morning, Janie.  It'd be nice if we got some of that soft, easy rain.   I am sure there is no chance of you turning into a blob.

Good morning.  So far it is foggy but not raining here so I hope the brick mason can get his job done and I can check one more thing off of the "to do" list.

Spent far too much time watching the Ryder cup yesterday.  I always enjoy it for the excellent play and the friendly competition between the players.  I just try to tune out the rowdy and raucous crowds.  Golf tournaments never used to be like that.  What a changing....and puzzling....world we live in.   ???

Good Morning Everyone!

Boy, all you early birds are up and at it.  Here it is before seven and I feel like I am a lazy bones for sleeping so late.  :o

Going to be another beautiful day here.  Cool and sunshiny. This and Springtime is the best times of the year for us.  We have lost the really hot weather now and we will have mostly mild days and cool nights until the really cold fronts work their way this far South.  Now if we can just get a little rain ever now and then.

Heading over to church in a little while for the men's breakfast.  Always enjoy that.  Good breakfast and lots of good fellowship.  Kinda starts your day off right.

Phyliss, I think the rowdiness was started by the Europeans some years back and now it is part of the Ryder cup weather played here or there.  Players and gallery expect it.  It is all in good fun.

Got to go splash some water on my face.  Talk to you later.

Lloyd--Good morning.  I'm sure you be happy when Nancy's new laundry room is finished.

Good morning, halkel.  How nice that your church has breakfast on Saturday.

Good morning, Joan and all the other friends.

Thanks for the Cinnabons this morning.  Sure hit the spot with my flavored coffee........Caramel this morning.

Liked the Funny Sayings this morning.

It is another dreary, dismal, foggy, rainy morning.  The weather people yesterday said it would be clearing up today, but now they are saying it won't clear up until sometime tomorrow.  Sure is a good day for napping and doing nothing.

I am waiting for my DIL to call, as she is going to the store and I have a few things that I need.  It is a big help when she is going and gets me just a few things.  It doesn't take her as long as it takes me.  I really don't need much.  Just some produce, bread, and milk.  I think she is going to Walmart and they are now selling the Krispy Crème donuts and they have them packaged with 2 in a box.  That is a lot better than having to buy a whole dozen.  So, have them on the list, also.

I have nothing planned for today. I need to get dressed and take some bills down for the outgoing mail today.

Hope every friend will have a good day.

Joy

Good morning everyone, still drizzly here and the sunshine is missed. Been like this most of the week.
When my CNA  got here yesterday she said there were some Cox trucks at the corner so maybe they were working on something and that was the reason for everything Cox here was off and on for several hours.
Yesterday was the day my daughter and SIL moved to Arizona. She called when they got there so at least I knew they made it safe and sound. They had a trailer and the pick up truck loaded and my oldest grandson went with then with his pick up and trailer load, too.

JOY  around here they say no earlier than the end of September for flu shots. August seems like too early for those shots. My doctor says he starts giving then the ems of October so they will last through the winter.

LARRY  hope Scott has finally got rid of that migraine. They are no fun. My Mother suffered them. I do not mind going out in the cold as long as I dress for it and am moving. I have always preferred winter over summer heat and humidity.

JANE  don't know if it is the shorter days but I have been going to bed earlier this past week and sleeping better.

JOAN  no sore arm from the flu shot, all I could see was a little spot where the needle went in. A few days after getting that shot I would feel like I was coming down with a cold but next day was OK.

PATRICIA  I never had the flu and seldom even have a cold, I only started getting the shot after I retired, silly, when I was no longer around a lot of people.

GLORIA de  it was windy here yesterday and last night we did get real rain, no drizzles. I could hear it hitting the windows, looked out and could see it bouncing on the pavement. We do need the rain here, too. One weather person said we were 10 inches under normal for the year so far.

JUNE  like Pitt Bull dogs have a bad reputation but some are gentle. It is how they are treated from a pup that makes a difference. Any dog can be viscous if treated bad.

PATRICIA  you are so right, 2 animals from the same litter can be complete opposites in personality, depends on how humans treat them, too.

JOAN  a Cinnabon is just what I need with this gloomy morning. Now if it was snowing I would enjoy watching it. I know you do not want to see snow anymore.  Love the first one in Funny Sayings, that is too true. Goes out faster than it comes in. Food for Thought is just that today, just copied it. Thank you for all today's goodies.

AMY  I was looking at the Swamp Maples in front this morning and could really see the red showing up. Like you I love the way autumn smells and feels. It has always been my favorite time of year. Would love to go for a walk in the woods or through an orchard and smell the scent of ripening apples and ripening wild grapes.

JANE  the rain this past week has been soft (more drizzle than rain) except for last night.  The kind needed to soak into the dry earth.

PHYLLIS  hope that worker can work on your steps today.

LLOYD  after mote than 40 years my daughter was surprised at all that they threw away before moving. My SIL had a life time of living in that house so had a lot of sorting to do with his train hobby and tools  from a lifetime.

HAL  how cold does your really cold temperatures go? Any thing down to zero and below? Or just down to freezing?

JOY  with this gloomy weather I agree with you, the Cinnabons hit the spot, a bit of sunshine for breakfast at least. My son will be here soon and he always calls and asks if I need anything at the market. He is the more thoughtful son. Older one is doing better now that he is retired. I have seen him more in the last 2 months than in the last 2 years.

JOAN  at least you can still get out and about when you can. I now have to depend on others every time I have to go anyplace. I really dislike that.

Hi everyone on a lovely cool morning here in South Carolina.  It was 60 degrees when I got up this morning and only to get into the low 80's this afternoon.  This will be a laid back day for me as have nothing on my schedule.  Dinner is also taken care of with the exception of putting together a lettuce salad to go with the Chicken Pot Pie that our friend brought over a couple of days ago.  I didn't realize it was the Chicken Pot Pie until I cut it after supper last evening thinking it was going to be an apple pie.  Wow was I ever shocked when I saw the vegetables in it.  We had a good laugh over it.  Yesterday was also a quiet day.  I do plan on watching some football this afternoon.

Joan, we heard from Scott last evening saying his headache was finally over.  That was good news.

deAngel, glad your class went well yesterday.  That was a good sized class you were teaching.  Hope the nose bleed is over and that is never a pleasant experience.  My best friend wears hearing aids and is always forgetting where he put them or going to coffee without them.  Sometimes when I talk with him on Facetime he doesn't have them on and will stop and click them on so he can hear me.  I was unsettled when my friend fell until I knew he was basically OK.

Sandy, what is Kefir?  I have never heard of it.  We have used almond milk but not almond butter.

June, the card ministry that Pat does for our Sunday School class is something she can do from home.  She was active in the women's Circle and a crafts group but hasn't been able to participate in the last couple of months.  However, with her credit card and computer she can still shop.  I hope you are feeling well today.  Glad Gary got you fixed up for your grocery order.

Hal, it sounds like you have had a wonderful experience with your dog.

Patricia, you daughter's cat was also grieving your daughter's loss.  My daughter also loved cats.

Jackie, I have never heard of a flu shot called a flu jab before.  It is so nice to read your posts and the language usage for terms where your word(s) for something are different than what I have known.  The same is true for spelling such as shop versus shoppe. I am sure you must feel about the same with some of our words for some things.

Gloria, I expect your daughter and SIL are happy that the move is finally behind them and they can begin the next phase of their lives.  I am beginning to see different colors in the leaves on our trees. Nice that you are seeing more of your older son.

Good morning, Gloria.  Now your daughter and SIL begin a new stage in their lives.  I know they have been working toward this goal for a long time.  Thanks for your kindness in acknowledging the work I do here.

Larry--Good morning.  I am snickering over you and Pat's thinking the pot pie was an apple pie.:)  Glad to hear Scott's migraine is over.  My daughter, son-in-law, grandson from Atlanta, granddaughter and here boyfriend from Seattle are all in TN this weekend for the football game.

Gloria, it can get very cold here, even stay below freezing for several days in a row.  Off hand I think the coldest I have seen here is about 7 degrees.  I haven't seen a real snowfall, just small flurries or some freezing rain, for years.

Larry, I spoil my animals.  Only restrictions. They aren't allowed on the furniture.  Of course my old pup will drap herself across my lap. She is too big to get in my lap.

We talked to our granddaughter in France this morning and she is upset her cat is very ill and vet is not very encouraging. Bummer.

Good Morning dear hearts, I am having a very slow morning. Really wanted to just stay in bed, but that's taking the easy way out, so roused myself up, and got things started with a long shower, then the job of slathering on lotion, and now here. Had the first cup of coffee, but still sleepy.I will be home bound for a while,as grocery delivery is scheduled for an 11-3 o'clock delivery time.I save about six dollars but giving a 4 hour delivery window. They usually arrive around noon, but I don't mind the wait.

Bis, I really enjoyed the Funny Sayings column. The english language has a lot of "holes" in it as far as perfection is concerned, but this list really showed a lot of fun, plus sensibility at the same time.

Hal, your Sat. a.m. breakfast sounds great. I am glad you have these Christian men friends to associate with, as you have so many females in your immediate family. Must be two different life styles for you.

Larry, I am so glad your son is relieved from the Migraine headache. I have never experienced one, but understand they are horrible. Truly disabilitating for some folks. We have a lady here that does Card ministry for Rowntree Gardens. She keeps track of who is ill, hospitalize or deceased. The cards are put out on a table in the main lobby for all to sign, if they so desire, and in cases of a death the card is given to the family of that person. It is really a responsible job, and I am proud of your Pat for doing it.

Time for me to get the bed made, my self dressed and prepare for grocery delivery. Will be back, of course.

Larry

Kefir is very similiar to yogurt,  only it has a
different type of pro biotics ...

I use Lifeway:
http://lifewaykefir.com/family/kefir/

benefits of kefir:
https://draxe.com/kefir-benefits/

"Almond" Butter is the same as
"Peanut Butter" only you guess it,
made with almonds instead of peanuts.

It is very expensive compared to
peanut butter,  but has the benefits
of Almonds versus Peanuts.

I have tried very hard to get away from
most processed food.    (Yogurt and Kefir
are processed but still contain the goodness
that I require/prefer)

I have what most people would consider an
odd diet,  and only break it when I go out to
eat....   Then I usually eat what ever I want.

Because I have AFIB,  and take coumadin,
I must stay away from foods that are
high in vitamin K....

Yes,  it is quite restrictive sometimes....
but it is better then the consequences of
having more strokes.

All is well for me here on the rocky
coast of Maine,  which is in a cool down !!
Summer is over!

Have a good day,  everyone!

When I was taking
Hydrochlorothiazide ( "water pill" (diuretic)),
I also took a potassium supplement.

But when they took me off the water
pill,  they stopped the potassium supplement.

Unfortunately,  the meds that I take
for cardiovascular issues,  require close
scrutiny in order to get them to
do their best work for me.

Which is the case for most people who
are prescription medications.

I feel blessed to live so near to
physicians  etc. who care for me.

Good morning from the Interior! I am late again as after that very long sleep, I can't seem to get back to a routine.

Farrah, in continuing her unusual cat behavior, has settled in on the table to watch the winter flocks gyrate in the wind. Now, every other cat I've known, would "chitter" at the birds from a window. Farrah comes to attention, her short stocky body tenses and she will intermittently growl.

When they get too close or perch on the balcony fence, she slinks off and peers out from my line of wooden steins on the window ledge about two feet off the floor. She has never meowed or made any usual cat sound but she is definitely in her mind, at least, an alpha cat.

Jackie, you and I probably have a sort of natural immunity to colds. Too bad it hasn't extended beyond that to other ills.

Larry, I had never heard a cat scream that way and the abrupt personality change really showed his grief and depression. The vet believes he might have died from it as no signs of other illnesses.

We had endured a wet and depressive time instead of a summer this year and totally expected the snow they were announcing for the past week or so. Instead, it has gotten warmer and the sun is out, even if the trees have lost their leaves. So I'm celebrating a time without rain or snow!

I'm due for a committee meeting and need to pick up a few things and drop off something else, but everything except the meeting will probably end up for Monday.

I have more classwork, so I'll probably stop back later.

Sandy, I am taking that diuretic but I have not taken the potassium pill as long as I've taken the diuretic.  I feel if I can eat more green vegetables, I might not have to take it.  Maybe that is a foolish thought and I might have to take the potassium pill forever.  I often eat a salad when out for dinner, but when we eat at home, Tom's menus seldom include salads.  We do have green beans, asparagus or broccoli, but it has gotten that we don't eat at home as often as we did.

For all you golfers out there, this was an answer to a quiz, but you might enjoy the  bit of trivia.

"  While on the moon, Alan Shepard used a Wilson six-iron head attached to a lunar sample scoop handle to hit two golf balls, becoming the first and only person to play golf on the moon. Only a handful of people in NASA knew of Shepard's plan when, after an extended excursion on the lunar surface, he pulled out the club, and dropped two balls on the moon. Despite thick gloves and a stiff spacesuit which forced him to swing the club with one hand, Shepard struck two golf balls; driving the second, as he jokingly put it, "miles and miles and miles." Since Shepard’s famous shot, no other astronaut has attempted to hit a ball off the moon."

Nuts - I had a good start on a message and POOF it disappeared.

Joan, I eat out for the company, never alone.  I work myself around others schedules.  Tomorrow Dot and I will eat out after church, probably both of us getting a burger.  Tom is gone tonight so I made myself a cheese and pickle sandwich.  I wish we had a good seafood restaurant near us but it probably wouldn't do any good because Tom doesn't like fish - and he is my transportation.  So I don't dare get tired of eating out.  I will say we do not eat at any fancy restaurant and we  usually eat out around the lunch hour, not later.

My groceries were delivered and put away, and it wore me out..just that little bit of work. So I have been at home all day long, and tho one of my entertainers will be downstairs tonight, I may skip the entertainment.

My doctor wants me to wear a nitro patch now, instead of taking the pills. She called Gary and explained it all to him, since I said  NO, I did not want more meds. I misunderstood the patch would be a replacement not another presciption. The patch allows a slow time release, where the pill is absorbed instantly....as I understand it. So I will go down tomorrow to our clinic and put it in their hands. They will contact my doctor and she will O.K. their ordering the patch.l

Our entertainment will start in another half hour. I am tempted to dress and go down. I'll let you know. ???

I did dress and go down for the program. George Rossi is a very popular entertainer here. He did not play Pretty Woman tonight, so I did not find my self dancing. He does invite us to sing along on some songs and that is always fun. I came home and ate some cereal and a banana...had not eaten supper yet, so it tasted good.

O.K.,that's it for today. I'm going to brush my teeth, wash my face and go to bed and read.  I wish you Peace, Love, health, and God's Blessings.
