Good Sunday morning, Everyfriend.  There's breakfast crepes to go with your coffee or tea.  Have a blessed Sunday.

Thanks to Phyllis for her lovely “Soda Shoppe” graphic creation which we are using this week.

Chuckles

Proud of You

As one of the relatively few female airline pilots, I've often been mistaken for a flight attendant, ticket agent, or even a snack-bar employee.
Occasionally people will see me in uniform and ask if I'm a "real" pilot.
Still others congratulate me for making it in a male-dominated field. One day I was in the restroom before a flight. I was at the sink, brushing my teeth, when a woman walked through the door and looked over at me. "My sister would be so proud of you!" she remarked.

I figured her sister must be in the airline business, so I smiled and asked why.

Replied the woman, "She's a dentist."

Food For Thought

A Lost Art?
(By Lee Simonson)

Why is it that the electricity always seems to go out at the worst possible time?

This past week was no exception. In the middle of a late winter storm here in upstate New York, the television stopped - along with the lights, the stove, and everything else.

Strange things happen to a family when the power stops.

First, it's, "Don't open the refrigerator door, you'll let the cold air out."

Then it's, "I can't leave the house, the garage door doesn't open."

Then it's, "Don't use all the hot water."

In other words, life ceases to exist as we know it.

With nothing to do and nowhere to go, everyone starts to congregate in the same room.

The search for candles and flashlights begins, but as expected, all the batteries are dead.

Fortunately, we have a fireplace and had not run out of our supply of logs to throw on the fire. At least we didn't have to freeze in the luxury of our own home - we could "rough it" with a little comfort.

Then, invariably, the comment is made, "Can you imagine what it was like 100 years ago?"

Who has an imagination that good, I wonder. How could you explain the idea of a portable hair blow-dryer to someone 100 years ago? Or how a CD player plays music? Better yet, picture yourself telling someone in the year 1899, "In about another 50 to 60 years most everyone will be spending their time sitting in front of a box that has moving pictures of people doing just about anything - these pictures will be sent through the air and bounced off other boxes that are spinning around us in outer space. But not to worry, if you don't like it, you can press a button on something called a 'remote' and watch people doing something else."

Forget a hundred years ago... how do you explain television TODAY?

But something else happens when the electricity goes out. Something VERY strange that is rarely witnessed in today's sensory-overload attention-grabbing society. Many people think it's a lost art; maybe an art that has seen its best days come and go. But if you listen closely, you'll hear it.

What happens when the electricity goes out is nothing less than amazing - a conversation breaks out! You heard me - a real life family conversation. You remember what that is don't you? That's when people, in the same family no less, actually sit down and use their vocal cords to talk with each other. It happens in the same room at the same time. No voice mail, no email, no "chatting" by typing on a keyboard, no texting or cell phones. Just old fashioned face-to-face talking.

Without music or the television blaring in the background, these "no electricity" conversations can take on an impressive aura. With no lights, they can even be a bit spooky while you get reacquainted with your family. But there is also a nostalgic romance attached to the moment; doing something that people have done for thousands of years before electricity was even "invented."

It's not often you can hear the pendulum ticking in the old grandfather clock. But in between the conversation and something called a "card game," and in between the stories, jokes and laughter, you can still hear time slowing marching forward, with or without electricity.

We may not have much practice these days having family conversations, but it's a lot like riding a bicycle. Once you learn, you never forget.

Despite all the high tech gadgets at our fingertips and the rat-racy busyness of our lives, sometimes it's not that bad to be thrust into a low-tech existence, even if only for a few minutes.

Come to think of it, maybe the electricity should go out more often.

Thought of the Day

Dan Rather once asked Mother Teresa, "What do you say to God when you pray?" Mother Teresa answered quietly, "I listen." Taken aback, Rather tried again, "Well, then, what does God say?" Mother Teresa smiled, "He listens."

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'll be off to feed the doggies and get ready for church in a few minutes.  It's my turn to read the lesson this morning and I like to be there a few minutes early so the person who is watching for me can relax.  If I don't show, she/he will have to read the lesson.  I always know who it is who's watching for me because she visibly relaxes.

After church, I'm going to stop by the Farmers Market and pick up the stuff to make fresh salsa.  I might get a cantaloupe, too.  And look at other stuff.  I love shopping Farmers markets.

Make it a good day, Everyfriend.

P.S.  Lloyd, if you don't like where the icons are, click on them, hold the button down and drag them to where you like them.

Good morning, Lloyd.  Our Janie told you how to move the icons.  I saw on the National news that MO felt tremor from that earthquake.

Janie--Good morning.  Does your church have different people each week watching for the reader?  I sure wish there was a Farmer's Market near me.

Amy--Good morning.  I'd have my geemogotchees on if it was 40°. :)  You are going to be a busy bee this week.

Amy thanks. It is good to be Abel to be here. I am hooked up to a machine with a long cord to breath, it is long enough to go any where up on this level (any room) even out on the deck  I think I am going to move it to the other side of leaving room and I think I get down stairs to the Ms pack man machine and play it. Have a great Day.

Good morning, Joan, Lloyd, Jane, and Amy.  The sun is coming up and it is supposed to be a nice day.  I'm pretty sure I am going to enjoy it.

Amy, thanks for the "pat on the back".  You are always so nice to mention each week's graphic.

Thank you, Joan, for good food and good reading this morning.  Crepes sound good and "A Lost Art?" makes me long for the old, old days when families and friends visited each other and actually sat around and talked to each other.   ;)

Glad you are back, Gloria.  Sorry you have had so much computer trouble.  Hope you don't feel too much from Hermine.

I am concerned about Gloria de up on Long Island.  Hermine is supposed to hit the Island kind of hard.  Hope she will be OK.

Make it a good day, everyone.

Good afternoon.....

Well after a day of neither one of us talking to each other, not the best of atmosphere, R took an early morning telephone call from one of his mates, drinking buddies from back home, from near his previous address.....I had met his wife only the once many many years ago and that was on a brief unloading of Christmas card, gifts to their house, hardly really spoke to them so wasn't exactly feeling in a welcoming mood for company in one hours time, they were down for the weekend, only R didn't know....especially when R told mate over the phone..." we have both only just got up, " I shouted to R to tell him the truth, I have been up from my usual time of 5am...." it was he that had just got up at 9.am, just 30 mins before the phone rang....

Anyway they arrived with late teenage or early - late  20s daughter, or thats how old she looked....who I wasn't even aware they had, I knew they had a son....but I soon found that conversation between me and Rs friends wife, we both got on " like a house on fire..." it was as if we had known each other for years, we had so much in common, plus she was as chatty as I was....We sure had a laugh when it came to medical matters, and partners....especially when I touched on an ailment and was recommended I pop a pill for depression or anxiety, she too told me of an ailment where she too was prescribed depression med's, then told them this is news to me, I dont have depression.....We all said our goodbyes an hour or so later with a hug and the talk of them paying us a visit next year when they plan to book a week, not just the weekend they are down for this time.....Of course me and R are now back to our silent treatment, our-my, normal life resumes.........

Lloyd--Maybe you could move the concentrator downstairs when you want to play Pacman.

Good morning, Phyllis.  Glad to hear you expect decent weather.  It seems these days if folks sit around a table instead of talking to one another, they are talking on their iPhone or similar device.  I hope Gloria de is sheltered from the storm.

Vanilla-Jackie--Good morning.  It was nice you had company that you could have a good chat with.

Hi everyone on a beautiful Sunday morning. It will soon be time for me to head for Sunday School and Church.  I know what I plan to do after church in terms of lunch for us today as the kitchen is basically closed today.  I did get to COSTCO yesterday.  They had a very good sale on new bed pillows and we needed some so I got them, getting the king size only to find out when I got home that Pat in the last few days had cut off the king size cases as we didn't have king size pillows.  So I have to take the pillows back and see if I can get standard size pillow cases.

Last evening, while watching the University of Georgia beat the University of North Carolina in football I read thought the postings.  I will limit my comments today as don't have a lot of time to spend here this morning.

Amy, I agree that was a good deal.

June, I use Facebook very sparingly and mainly to see postings related to good friends.  I do get some notifications as guess I have that function turned on as with Pat.

Gloria, glad you are back but I am sure you are not optimistic if they simply went back to factory condition as that is what has been done several times already.  I will try to find the link as I assume you are speaking of the one for bluetooth keyboards.   Here is the link for the bluetooth keyboard that appears to be the same that I have.  http:/amazon.com/iXCC-Wireless-Bluetooth-Keyboard-Devices-White/product-reviews/B01E4T7L6I/ref=dpx_acr_txt?showViewpoints=1   If you search on Amazon for Bluetooth Keyboards you will find others.  I read some of the reviews and I think this one will work with Apple and Android devices and phones.

Jane, I think I will also buy from a local computer shop next time.  I am getting tired of dealing with computer problems.

Joan and Phyllis, last week when we went to Ruby Tuesday's I had a sundae that looked very much like your graphic but had some chocolate cake in the bottom of the glass.  It was ever so good.

Lloyd, the message from Microsoft on updating the computer so don't turn it off is normal, although frustrating.  When I lived in Alaska I was at work sitting at my desk and an earthquake occurred and my chair went rolling back into a bookcase (with me in it and I mean the chair not the bookcase) and then back to the desk.  However, there was no damage.  My SIL in Independence said she felt the one in Oklahoma and I read it was felt in 7 states. Did you enjoy the ride back and forth in your chair?  :)

I hope everyone has an enjoyable Sunday.

Good morning Larry.  Good for you closing the kitchen on Sunday.:)  Too bad you got the wrong size pillows and have to make another trip.

Radioman--Good morning.  That wedding should be somewhat unique.

Good morning, Callie.

Good morning on this cool morning, and waiting for Hermine, which is suppose to arrive to night, but with only 55mi. winds, not the 75 first said we would have, here on eastern Long Isand.  Ripe tides have been bad, this last week,  Strange but my friend just came back from the ocean, and it is calm. I guess that old expression "calm before the storm". All up and down the coast it shows it so rough. A couple of years ago, I also would have  take a ride to to watch the ocean, along with many others.  I Use to have a minister, who would go down to the ocean to write his sermon. There is something about the ocean, you can just set and look at it.  My son and I use to go down and just set and look at the waves coming in, and the birds running in front of them.

Callie Hi right back :coolsmiley:

Phyllis, that sundae, looks like my coffee sundae, I get at Friendlys. I will be glad when Hermine, gets way out to sea.  I have been watching at the beginning and worry about my DIL in the Florida Pan Handle, then  Johanna in SC, now here, and next my DIL on Cape Cod.  No wonder I have white hair.

Joan, thanks for crepes, I forgot to make them this year, as I make them durning strawberry season.

June, I use Face book like Larry, only to here from  and see pictures of my grandaughter.  I find it too personel.  I do not write in it.

Larry, if and when I need to replace my 7 year old computer, I would buy it right here in Riverhead then I could talk face to face with someone.  I also would let the man who takes care of my PC. Four years ago I let him pick out my printer also.  I take and print all the pictures every month I take at Red Hat meetings. So I use it a lot.

Good Afternoon Everyfriend!  I've had a full morning.  Went to church at 8. I read (Joan, the person watching for the reader to arrive is usually the one who will have to do the reading if no one shows up) then I went to brunch with three ladies from church and then to the Farmers market (bought stuff to make tomato sauce for cooking) then stopped at WM for a few items.

I came home and let the doggies out and gave them a snack, put a chicken in the crock pot and here I am.

And I'm not going anywhere else for the rest of the day.

Gloria de..I hope you're all "battened down" for the storm.  We wouldn't want you to float away on the wind.

I tried to find that sundae in the icecream store but I think someone beat me to it.  So I bought crème horns at WM.

Have a pleasant day Everyfriend!

Janie--I like cream horns, too.  Thanks for the answer about the reader.  Do you freeze or can your sauce?

A story to bring tears to your eyes......excuse the pun....

The Mother With One Eye

My mother had only one eye. When I was growing up, I hated her for it. I hated the uninvited attention it got me at school. I hated how the other children stared at her and looked away in disgust. My mother worked two jobs to provide for the family, but I was just embarrassed by her and didn't want to be seen with her.

Every time my mother came to visit me at school, I wanted her to disappear. I felt a surge of hatred towards the woman who made me the laughing stock of the school. In a moment of extreme anger, I even once told my mother I wanted her to die. I was completely unconcerned about her feelings.

As I grew up, I did whatever was in my power to distance myself from my mother. I studied hard and got a job overseas so I wouldn't have to meet her. I got married and started raising a family of my own. I got busy with my job and family and with providing a comfortable life for my beloved children. I didn't even think about my mother anymore.

Out of the blue, my mother came to visit one day. Her one-eyed face scared my young children and they started crying. I was angry at my mother for showing up unannounced and I forbid her to ever return to my home and new family life. I yelled and screamed, but my mother quietly apologized and left without saying another word.

An invitation to a high school reunion took me back to my hometown after decades. I could not resist driving past my childhood home and stopping by the old shack. My neighbors told me my mother had passed away and left a letter for me.

"My dear child:

I must begin by apologizing for visiting your home unannounced and frightening your beautiful children. I am also deeply sorry that I was such an embarrassment and source of humiliation to you when you were growing up.

I have learned that you may be coming back to town for your reunion. I may no longer be there when you come, and I think it is time to tell you an incident that happened when you were a young child. You see, my dear child, you were involved in an accident and lost one eye. I was devastated at the thought of my beloved child growing up with only one eye. I wanted you to see the beautiful world in all its glory, so I gave you my eye.

My dear child, I always have and always will love you from the bottom of my heart. I have never regretted my decision to give you my eye, and I am at peace that I was able to give you the ability to enjoy a complete life.

Your loving mother."

Thank you Vanilla-Jackie.  Reading that required Kleenex.

Gloria called me.  Her grandson worked 3 hours installing her computer yesterday, and when he left everything worked fine.  When she tried to "boot up" this morning she has nothing.  She sure has more patience than I do.  She asked me to request that none of you send her any emails until she has a machine that works.

You know, I don't know how much good it would do, but is it about time that all of us gave the company a little attention about Gloria's computer.  I cant recall where she bought it but we are all aware of how much grief they thing has given her.  Some letters from members of this board just might get their attention.

What brand is it? And when did she first buy it, how many times has she sent it back, and any other information.  Can someone call Gloria and get some information?

Regarding the One Eyed Mother...

"As it turns out, only one part of the eye can be transplanted.
Medical science has no way to transplant whole eyes.
When someone receives an "eye transplant,"
they are being given a donor "cornea",
the clear front part of the eye.
Your eye is a complex organ connected to your brain
by the optic nerve. "

This is a story that is just made up  to make people feel
sad..      Thank goodness there is no truth to it.

It is a beautiful day here on the rocky coast of Maine..
Warm but dry ...    Fall is on it's way!    Hooray!

I feel really bad for Gloria.

I think it was obvious it wasn't a true story, just beautiful thought provoking...... but someday it just possibly might be......Link....webmd

" One major organ still eludes the transplant surgeon, however: the entire human eye. But if one team of U.S. scientists has its way, that dream may become reality, too.

"Until recently, eye transplants have been considered science fiction," said Dr. Vijay Gorantla, an associate professor of surgery in the department of plastic surgery at the University of Pittsburgh. "People said it was crazy, bonkers."

However, " with what we now know about transplantation and, more importantly, nerve regeneration, we are finally at the point where we can have real confidence that this is something that actually can be pursued and eventually achieved," he said.

JOAN  glad I called you earlier. I  did call Cox. I was told my Wifi had not been working for 3 months. That is about the time when the so called tech from HP was here. Amazing how they can fix things like that from where ever they are. Now I can see the different lights on it since it is running right again. Thank you for telling me.

CALLIE it is great to be back again. I was getting pretty tired of trying to find something to read in our library. Lot of Harlequin books but that is not my kind or book to enjoy. Heard on the news that quake was felt in many states. You had too many quakes this year.

PATRICIA  if I sent this PC back I have no idea where to send it. Calling HP only gets me someone in India who sure does not know much. Ben transferred to different departments there it is a circle.  My grandson was telling me that HP is branching out into different areas and not concentrating on computers much any more.

JOAN  how about all those friends of this one or that one. I am not interested in anyone else in Facebook except my family. I have not been to it long enough to know the ins and outs of it and my grson set it so I no longer get notifications.

JUNE  no Mac for me. There are several ladies here in their late 90's who put me to  shame. I would not try to keep up with them.

JANE  wish I knew someone who could build me a computer.

HAL  if this was an old computer I could understand problems but the first time it went back I only had it 3 weeks.

PHYLLIS  oh boy make me one of those sundaes. Looks yummy.

JOAN  love A Lost Art. Just copied that one.Good quote. Thank you for today's goodies, I sure missed them.

LLOYD  I will stick with 7 as long as I can.

PHYLLIS  it was a beautiful day here, full of sunshine and a nice breeze. Last I heard tomorrow Tuesday and Wednesday we might get rain from Hermine. Tomorrow is supposed to be windy, too. They stopped ferries to the is;ands and all beaches are closed and people warned to stay out of the water because of riptides. Like you I have been wondering about Gloria de.

LARRY  thank you for the link, I will look it up.

DON  hope you enjoyed the wedding. Bubble's visit must have felt much too short for both of you.

Gloria de  they showed the ocean here on the hews and it looked like pretty big waves already on the south coast area. This is another time I live as far from the ocean as I can get and still be in RI. I always loved being at the ocean, peaceful there.

JACKIE  that is such a sad story. That daughter was a selfish ungrateful person.

JOAN  thank you for relaying my message. I have several hundred emails to check and hope this coming week I can get to them. You must remember the email you got from groups when you were into PSP. I just hope this is about the end of my PC trouble. Cannot take much more of it. I thank God my grandson helps me when I have problems. Since his job is working at/on computers all day and I know he does not like doing it on his own time he has always come when I need him. My son and DIL did a wonderful job with him and the one they adopted. Both were taught to respect others and they amaze me when I see others their ages who respect  no one.

JACKIE  at times I felt like throwing this thing out the window but then I cannot pick it up.

HAL  I went online to HP and ordered this poor excuse of a PC. Every time I have called it is always to India and they do not know much. Even the tech they sent here to restore to original had only been into computers for 7 years and acted like he knew all about them. I asked my grandson if he knew everything about them and he said no. He was interested in them in high school and that is what he studied in college. He was hired as in intern at the company he is still with when he was in his last year at URI. I ordered it in the beginning of February. Got it 2 weeks later and 3 weeks after that is when it froze and even my grandson could not fix it and it was sent back. That was the first time I asked to have it replaced.  When it came back I started getting the blue screen and it would reboot faster than I could read what it said. Finally did one night when I went to shut down and it came up, said the system was corrupted. That is when they sent 4 disks to me and a tech came to restore to factory settings. He was such a know it all, he gave me his name and phone number in case I ever needed someone to work on it. Glad he did. After he left I noticed the tower was on the floor and other things not plugged in. I called hi the next day -a Friday- and he said he would be here on Monday. I told him I would not be without the PC over the week end so he came from Cape Cod at the rush hour. I did not feel bad about that. There is only one bridge off the Cape and it is a mad rush most of the time. Anything else you want to know?

JACKIE  my last PC was an HP like this one HP. I had no problems with the other one except I was almost out of space and memory. That one was only about $300 and this one more than double the cost.

SANDY  so far this PC has not had me crying. I have thought some choice words about that company though.

I think I have written a full length book this evening so better say good night. Thank you for being concerned. Nice to know someone cares.

Glad to have you back Gloria.....

If I had that much trouble with my computer,
I would be in tears,  and calling everyone I knew to
help me get the problem fixed.

You are  a better  person in than I am ...

I have been having some issues with my new phone
which require help from the Techs....  They
are only in California... and they have been very
very good to me.    Having problems is no fun,
especially if you feel helpless.

Best wishes in the future...

Jeanne Lee, I was thinking the same thing when reading what Gloria de said about watching the waves.... Don't know why, I've been on the coast all around the US, and I feel like crying, such a saddness it is overwhelming.  I feel like all the air is sucked out of my lungs.  I never told that to my husband or anyone else, doesn't make sense because I am spellbound by the beauty, I just feel like crying.

I came to pick brains today, been driving myself crazy trying to remember a trick race car driver of the early '50s.  He came to the MO State Fair those years, and was competition with Joie Chitwood shows.  I think his name started with "S"....or maybe "A".... I've Googled every subject or way I can think of but can't pull up the name.  I looked through history about Joie Chitwood in hopes of finding where they did shows together.  If I remember, one show they kept out-doing each other, riding on 2 wheels longer than the other, etc.  I can almost see the writing on the side of the cars~   I know I'd recognize his name if I saw or heard it, never drew a blank like tonight.

Gloria, so glad you are here today, don't think anything we buy anymore is without problems.  After my ordeal with that last Toshiba that I paid well over $1,000 for & ended up sending it back after my son spent a whole day online with their tech help to prove they left out an important part.... I got a full refund and have not been tempted since to shop for another as long as these old things can hold on.  I need to have him add more memory (or something) to the oldest one.... it was top of the line when I bought & now thumb drives are 10x the size.

Been a very long day so need to feed cats and put stuff away and get to bed.  Sweet dreams to all and God Bless. Shirley

I had a looooong nap today, so feel sort of friskey tonight. Nothing going on I can get involved it, and tomorrow is an actual blank as to activities...nary a soul is stirring, not even a mouse. I took a later walk tonight around the park area, saw all the lamps lighted in the many apartments, but not a person in sight. Everything was lighted but closed in the club house, the only thing that stays open is the clinic downstairs, but it is still all lighted up. So, since I can't get into any trouble, I shall get ready for bed and book.  Have a peaceful night dear hearts. I love you all and wish you Joy, and Health and Peace. June

Under New Management
(Author Unknown)

As I was driving today, I couldn't help notice a sign outside a restaurant that read "Under New Management" in bold, colored letters. The owners were trying to convey the message that, even though the restaurant looked the same, perhaps even had a similar menu, something was definitely different.

It wasn't easy to spot the change from a distance. My first impulse was to go inside and question why things had to change. Why couldn't the new owners just pick up where the former left off, keeping it "business as usual"? The answers were simple: the former owners went bankrupt; they lost touch with what was important; their accounts were out of order.

In order to bring it back to its former glory, the old had to be replaced with the new. Some things, like the design, had to change gradually so others could become accustomed to it. Others needed immediate attention. But it had to come "Under New Management" for it to be effective.

That's the same way it is with us, beloved, when we finally come into a relationship with God: we have to come under new management . . . God's management! It can't be business as usual! God places a sign outside our hearts and begins to phase out the old things, those things which caused spiritual bankruptcy; those "accounts" in our lives that were in disarray. They are the past.

These "accounts" are not important any longer, nor do they have any bearing on God's ability to bring about change in our lives. And maybe we won't suddenly wake up and see someone else in the mirror . . . maybe from a distance others can't notice the change, but make no mistake about it: we're under God's new management!

It might not always seem like it. Our life's menu might sometimes seem like it's unchanged, but we can't be fooled! In some areas, we'll experience immediate change. In others, change will be gradual. Before long, however, the new Owner will bring in more changes, a more palatable menu for our lives and spiritual abundance. That's Jesus' heart and desire for us.

"What this means is that those who become Christians become new persons. They are not the same anymore, for the old life is gone. A new life has begun!" 2 Cor. 5:17 (NLT)

"For what we leave behind us is a part of ourselves; we must die to one life before we can enter into another!â€"Anatole France

Good Morning Everyfriend!  And a special Good Morning to you Joanie and to our friend Jackie across the ocean.

I'm going to a picnic at my daughter's this afternoon...the last of the season!  It's going to be a small group...my daughter and her husband and his boss.  His boss is a rather young new widower and they've tried to include him in some family activities so he won't grieve too much.  He's a nice young man and I enjoy his company.

I'm going to go and get my tomato sauce cooking so I can get it into jars and on the shelf ready for the snow.  I hope the snow isn't forthcoming in the near future but my mother always used to say she was canning things for "when the snow flies'.

Have a lovely freedom from "Labor Day" Everyfriend!

Good morning, Janie.  How nice to include the young widower in the picnic at your daughter's home.  Our HOA is having a BBQ at the clubhouse.  I won't be going because they are having it outside around the pool, and I just can't be outside that long in this hot and humid weather.  That sauce will be great to have when the snow flies.  I don't think that will happen for some time yet.

Vanilla-Jackie--Good you finally got your appointments straightened out.  I liked "Under New Management" too.

Good morning, Amy.  Must be your animals were telling you they wanted breakfast.:)

Good morning everyone, no rain yet. Just heard it will be starting soon but will add up to less than an inch in this area but it will be windy. Going to grandson's home this afternoon but might end up being a cook in instead of a cook out.

SANDY  the last Dell PC I had was a real lemon ad they did nothing to help. HP has not done much but still better.

SHIRLEY  after a storm at sea I used to love going to the shore and watching the waves crash over the ledges or on the beach. To me it was always calming. The last HP had all the memory it could have and it was fast running out. This one has 3X the memory of that one and a 1T hard drive.

JOAN  a scone will be great with my coffee this morning. Under New Management is a different way to look at how our lives have changed over the years. Thank you for all today's goodies.

AMY  feels great to finally get back “home” to the SS.

Don't know how late I will be getting home today so might just head to bed.

Good Morning Everyone!

Nice to see all the J's present and accounted for.  Hope Lloyd shows up feeling much better.  Joanie, I wish you could enjoy some time around the pool.  Don't they have an a/c clubhouse you could retreat to?

We are going to my Granddaughters home late evening for a meal and family gathering.  Hopefully some BBQ, but don't know if that is on the menu.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Hi everyone on a beautiful Labor Day Monday.  Yesterday was so enjoyable as it didn't get very hot.  Other than going to Sunday School and Church and getting some lunch to bring home I really didn't do anything else yesterday.  Today I plan on returning and replacing the new pillows at COSTCO if they are not closed for the holiday.  I can do that on my way to my Monday meeting at noon.  I shouldn't have to do much cooking today as we have leftovers from the rotisserie chicken and other items from our meal Saturday evening.

Joan, fortunately COSTCO is close to us, just three or four miles away.

Jackie, that was a nice story even if it couldn't be true as some other deformity could have been substituted and the message would be the same.  Glad you didn't waste your time on another appointment that wasn't needed.

Gloria,  it looks like you did get your computer rebooted late yesterday evening.  I have experienced several times a turning on the computer or doing a reboot and it would load.  But I found it if tried two or three times it would finally reload and work fine.  I hope that is what you experienced.  It is frustrating and makes no sense but it has worked for me.

Sandy, glad you are getting help with your new phone.

Shirley, the stunt driver wasn't Evel Knievel was it?

Joan, I really like the Food for Thought for today.  I have copied it and will put it in my devotional folder.

JaneS, I hope you enjoy the picnic.  It is nice of your daughter and husband to include his boss in the picnic.  I sure wish something like that could happen for our son.  Right now his life seems to revolve around us, his dog and cat and his work.

Good morning, Gloria.  Even if it rains and you have to be inside at your son's you will be with family.  That's great!!  I'm so glad you are back with all your equipment behaving.

halkel--Good morning.  Yes, we have a huge clubhouse, but since the get together is outside, I'd be all by myself inside.:)  Enjoy the time with your family.

Good morning, Larry.  It's nice you have leftovers and won't have to cook today.
It would be nice if your son could find some social life around his age.

Another beautiful and thought provoking short story.....there are no claims as to whether the story is fact or fiction, just make up your own minds....

Sharing Happiness......

" Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room. One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain the fluid from his lungs. His bed was next to the room's only window. The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back. The men talked for hours on end. They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military service, where they had been on vacation. Every afternoon when the man in the bed by the window could sit up, he would pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the window. The man in the other bed began to live for those one hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened by all the activity and color of the world outside. The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake. Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats. Young lovers walked arm in arm amidst flowers of every color and a fine view of the city skyline could be seen in the distance. As the man by the window described all this in exquisite detail, the man on the other side of the room would close his eyes and imagine the picturesque scene. One warm afternoon the man by the window described a parade passing by. Although the other man couldn't hear the band - he could see it in his mind's eye as the gentleman by the window portrayed it with descriptive words. Days and weeks passed. One morning, the day nurse arrived to bring water for their baths, only to find the lifeless body of the man by the window, who had died peacefully in his sleep. She was saddened and called the hospital attendants to take the body away. As soon as it seemed appropriate, the other man asked if he could be moved next to the window. The nurse was happy to make the switch, and after making sure he was comfortable, she left him alone. Slowly, painfully, he propped himself up on one elbow to take his first look at the real world outside. He strained to slowly turn to look out the window beside the bed. It faced a blank wall. The man asked the nurse what could have compelled his deceased roommate who had described such wonderful things outside this window. The nurse responded that the man was blind and could not even see the wall. She said, "Perhaps he just wanted to encourage you."

A late Good Morning to all.  I'm running a little behinder this morning but getting there eventually.  Yesterday we had such a lovely day.  The weather was beautiful and the temps and humidity were down.  Thanks to the "after storm" effect it was beautiful.  We went to a brand new park just 15 min. from us and walked and watched all of the little children laughing, running, playing on all of the neat and brand new play-ground equipment.  David walked around a little and I sat and people watched.  Then we drove over to another park that surrounds a restored historic grist mill and I walked a little and David walked some more around the large mill pond.  We are so blessed here in Cary to have many, many parks and new ones being built nearly every year.  I just googled and this new park makes 32 parks within Cary's city limits.  Also, we have several over in South Raleigh that are easy drives to go to.  I'm grateful to the town planners who consider parks to be high on the priority list.

With all that walking and a stop for a very good dinner at Bob Evans (Chicken Fried Steak....one of my favorites) I was really tired when we got home so I slept quite awhile in the recliner while watching TV through my eyelids and then went to bed and slept like a log all night long.  I woke up feeing so refreshed to another beautiful day.

Today is laundry day and whatever else I can think of.  Take care, everyfriend, and I hope it will be a good day for you, too.

Merry Monday and Happy Labor Day.

If I understand correctly this is supposed to be a "Rest From Your Labor" Day - but I don't think very many of us have that need.....well, maybe except JaneS and Lloyd.

My family is scattered.  Miss Ellen has finished her performances in Tulsa and is coming home for a few weeks before her next adventure.  Miss Emily and brother Carson came home after the OSU football game on Saturday- going back this afternoon.  Their Dad (#1 son - meaning "oldest", not "most favorite) is dove hunting on some family property in one direction and #2 son is on our property in another direction setting up game cams and feeders in preparation for deer season in October.

I'm having a "leisurely" day at home.  Might treat myself to some KFC or a fast food burger later on.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a lovely day.

Good morning from the Interior!

After six or more days of sunny, dry and cooler weather, I awoke this morning to foggy, trails of mist, and pouring rain. Mother Nature has had it in for us all summer it seems! My barbeque I'm going to today will probably end up inside instead of out.

Farrah was feeling afraid and jumpy yesterday, and I hope she is over it today. She continually comes up wanting to play, and I'm just not that mobile these days. I feel guilty and wish we were allowed a second pet. I think we would both be happier!

MaryAnn, I enjoyed seeing your photo with Norm and Dot yesterday, and it was nice to "see" you!

I've got a busy if damp day scheduled so I best get moving and hope everyone is having a sunny, bright labor day or otherwise enjoying a very nice day!

Phyllis--How lucky you are to have so many parks to visit.  Sure wouldn't get bored when you can pick from so many.  When my sister was a snowbird here, they liked to go to Bob Evans.  I loved the chicken fried steak, sans the gravy.  Since her husband died, and she sold their villa, she hasn't been back, and I haven't been to Bob Evans.

Callie--Your family is scattered, but at least they aren't too far away.  Mine are now several thousand miles away.

angelface--At least you had a few days of nice weather.  Enjoy the barbeque.

It is still morning here in So. Ca. but after nine a.m. When I spoke to our Jackie, it was early morning for her, but bedtime for me. And did I ever sleep well. I have been sleeping with just a sheet covering me, last night I felt cool so put a light blanket over the sheet and slept so well, I woke up an hour later this morning. Seven a.m. instead of six.By eight I had finished my daily prayer readings and the exercises and leg massage I do daily, now at nine, I am with you all slurping on my first cup of coffee.

We have nary a single program listed for today. I guess they want us to really rest from our labors, but mostly it will give those that do all the programing can have the day off. I think that is being very kind of the employers. The only ones working will have to be the kitchen/dining room team, a skeleton crew of maintenance, and of course the clinic….that is 24/7 at all times. I am content with that.

Another nice day for Stanton, Ca. I will be getting a grocery delivery between 11 and  3p.m. so I am at home during those hours. When I give them a four hour window, delivery costs just 6 dollars and 50 cents. Half of what it would cost for a "right now" delivery. And it gives me good reason to just stay put at home. I can still get out to walk the hallways if needed.

Life is good and I am so grateful.

Callie, your life sounds very pleasant and having so many parks is truly a gift from your city. In this area where I live now, it seems you just drive from one small town to another with no greenery in between. Just busy streets, stores, homes, and businesses. Orange Co. Has become a very popular place to live in the past  hundred years.

Bis, I am sorry you are so separated from family now, but you do know that if they are needed they would be there as soon as possible. I would never dream of leaving here if Gary and Dori should decide to move away, which I don't think they plan to do in my life time. They are so active with pastoring their Church, and they are free to visit their kids when they want to.  Dan and Nancy are content with their life in Santa Cruz, but they pop out to see me once a year, and that is enough. With the computer I visit with them when ever I want to. And with all you dear friends here, as close as my keyboard, I am content.

Joan, having family near doesn't necessarily mean seeing them often - especially when football and hunting seasons begin and more especially, as The Grands grow up and move out on their own.

That's o.k.  I don't do Guilt Trips and absolutely refuse to be the kind of mom/MIL/grandmother who lets everyone know how (lonely-sad-bored-"fill in the blank") she is and expects them to Do Something About It.

#2 son used to say he was going to tie a bell on me so he could keep up with where I was.  I told him,  "I'll wear one if you will."   -----End of conversation  ;D

I've gotten out the Fall house decorations and have just added 3 books to my e-book library account.

June--I am glad you slept so well with a blanket.  I always use a blanket because I have to keep my a/c set at 73°.  Nice you can get grocery delivery on Labor Day.  Oh yes--family would be here quickly if I needed them.  They all chose careers/jobs that located them far away.

Linedancer--Glad the big storm missed you.  You have many activities coming up.  I admire you for getting out and being active.

Callie--I do not do guilt trips.  I simply stated that my entire family lives so far away that they can only come once a year--if that.  It used to be I would go visit them, but now not being able to fly prohibits that.  And the portable oxygen is only good for 4-5 hours, so car trips are not possible.

Oh, Joan,  please forgive me if I sounded like you were "doing a guilt trip". I did not mean that at all at all!

I was thinking of friends with adult children living in the same area who expect to be together at least weekly, if not more often.....and complain when that doesn't happen.

(These perpetual mommies also seem to be on the cell phone with their adult darlings about every 15 minutes!!! I wouldn't know what to talk about that often.)

O.K. - off my soap box.

I have 2 right here in town.  I see Cathy at least once a week.  If we haven't seen one another all week, she stops during her running around to visit for as long as she has to spare on Saturday.  I cherish those moments.  My son also lives here and we text.  If it's his turn to pick up Kiran, I see him.  If it's not, I don't.  He is so busy with his business and in the Fall and Winter, his duties increase.  He gets Kiran ready and takes her to school and he coaches the Girls High School basketball team. Cindy comes home from Texas at least 2 times a year and the last couple times, she's stayed with me.  I love that, too.  If Frankie is here, I see Christy often.  If she isn't, and she won't be coming here, I see Christy rarely.  If I need something, she'll come.  I talk to her or text a couple times a week.  Cindy and I text almost every day.  [b[I don't do guilt trips either.  They are so useless and they must make both parties feel resentful.[/b]

So far, it's been a leisurely day.  I went and had my ears lowered and I was lucky enough to get my favorite gal.  She calls everyone "Hon" about a hundred times.  But she is so sincere about everything she says that you don't mind.

Guess I better get my clothes changed, feed the doggies and be on my way or I'll miss the picnic.

P.S.  I know that both of you are not Guilt Trippers.  And I'm pretty sure that's true of Everyfriend in here.  We are all far too independent for that!

Bis, like you, I do not believe in guilt trips either...to me that is using or abusing any relationship with others. And I feel free not to accept a guilt trip either, not that my kids would ever lay one on me. I am so happy to be in a place now that offers so much care, but still leaves me independent. My happiness comes that it truly gives my kids the freedom to come and go as they please. Anything that happens with me medically, is immediately phoned to Gary. That really surprised me.

Callie--Thanks for the explanation.  We are have different lifestyles and many times logistics play into that.

Janie--You seem to do well seeing or talking to family.  For sure none of us are guilt trippers.

June--I am sure it gives your boys peace of mind to know that if anything happens with you, Gary would be called.

I had a large family, but after my parents and daughter died, everyone scattered to the four winds. Three out of 12 live overseas and the rest in Oregon, Idaho, California, Colorado and Kansas. None seem to be especially close, even in the immediate family and that is just plain sad. So enjoy your families, these times pass and won't come again.

Hi everyone.  I want to post this evening as have a very busy day tomorrow.  Pat has an early appointment, then I have a meeting at the church regarding our Senior luncheon group and finally have to be at the hospital for some more lab work and then a doctor's appointment.  By the time I get home I will need to rest and then think about our evening meal.  We had a very quiet day today.  I couldn't stop at COSTCO as they were closed for the holiday but I did attend my Monday meeting.

Interesting postings today but will forego comments.

Patricia, I value the friendship of all of you here more than words can say. I am the last of my "birth" family, and the last of my good friends. i am blessed with my two sons, the grandchildren and great grandchildren. I see only my sons and their dear good wives mostly, the Grands and Gr. Grands have their own friends and families, but I know they love me, and I value that. But what we share here with one another, has a life of it's own. We share, we are warmed by the sharing. We are not obliged or obliging, we are just simply friends, children of God, that have a special understanding of one another. Such a valuable part of our personal lives. So I pray you never, ever, feel alone. We are as close as our computers.

Hi Janie, yes, we are very special "relatives" aren't we ?

Larry, dear friend, it sounds like you are pushing yourself. Don't do more than you absolutely have to do.

Time to fix myself some supper. I don't feel up to going downstairs and being "social", so since I ordered some new items for me on my grocery delivery today, I am going to fix a frozen Jimmy Dean breakfast for supper, with some nice fresh sour dough bread toasted, and some fruit for dessert. The frozen dinner is scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes and cheddar cheese. sounds just right for me. I'll let you know later how it was.

Jane, thought I better make an appearance, even tho it is getting late in the evening. Since you mentioned that the other "J" was missing.    Thanks, tho, for thinking of me.   I really must make a better effort to check in more often.

Even though I do read messages mostly every day, I don't always comment. And, I do know, it only takes a minute or two to just stop by and say "Hi".   Just really don't have a very interesting life, so figure I don't do that many interesting things.  LOL

I was busy most of the day. Went to my oldest son's for a Labor Day dinner. My two other sons and 2 daughter-in-laws were also there. We had planned to have steamed crabs, but the place where we usually get them wasn't able to get any because of the storm coming up the east coast.   So, my son, who is always ready and willing to cook, said he would fix dinner.  We had steamed shrimp, lobster tails, roasted potatoes, coleslaw and macaroni salad.  Key lime pie, mini eclairs and coconut cake for dessert.  So, it was just as good as having steamed crabs, only not as messy.

It was a nice afternoon and evening.  They have a horse farm, so we sat on the deck and watched the horses in the field and at dusk, the deer appear at the edge of the woods.  Also a big group of Canadian geese always make an appearance.  It was nice and warm and very peaceful.  They live far enough back from the main road that you don't hear any traffic.  Sometimes there are lots of airplanes going over as they are on a flight path to BWI airport, but today must have been an off day, as didn't hear any planes going over at all.

So, I will say good night, and go get ready for bed, but will read for a while.

Have a good rest of the evening.

Joy

Went to my Granddaughters for supper tonite.  Had beef fajitas and all the trimmings.  They ordered out and were delivered.  They were excellent.

Speaking of family, that is what our topic of conversation was about.  Christmas time and all the family and where to put all the out of town bunch.  And  I will leave it at that.

Callie, I could only eat half of the Jimmy Dean "breakfast", so I will have the other half tomorrow morning. I rarely eat a big breakfast but it may be a good plan to get into.

I just took a nice long walk around the outside of our property...all locked in so I felt secure and it was a beautiful walk. Nice clean air and that will mean a nice good sleep. May our Good God bless you all this night, and we will meet again in the morning. Hugs, Love and Prayers, June.

Larry, I am pretty sure the name I'm looking for was A. Swenson.  "Aut Swenson â€" who also operated the Thrillcade show"...........  too long ago and nobody from my old days around that knew about him.  At the time I thought he was as big of a name as Joey Chitwood and thought he was one of the drivers.  Thanks for the thought.

Busy day again tomorrow, my 5 hours sleep last night and only 4+ the night before has me running on empty.  We are back in the heat & high humidity mode so a struggle to keep up with everything to do outside.  Had a nice picnic at the church this evening, the planners did a fantastic job of feeding and entertaining all ages.  Cats are all fed and out for the night and my eye lids are at half mast, time to turn out the lights.  Sweet dreams.  Shirley

Another "J" checking in.....

Unfortunately, I have not been doing very good at posting....time is moving much too quickly for me.  I am caught up with all the posts tonight, but now I am so tired, I just keep nodding off.

I have been out of town attending my 50th class reunion in a little town in SW Colorado called Cortez.  It is a 7 plus hour drive and we left last Thursday morning fairly early. Enjoyed a beautiful drive.  We stayed with my best friend at her families home that she grew up in.  Her brother and his wife live there now, but they were away for the holiday weekend.  It was so much fun.  We attended a Friday night get together at the local Elks Club.  Then Saturday at noon about 12 of us ladies met for lunch.  That night was a dinner with everyone and it was delightful.   Staying with Patti and her husband we got to reminisce a lot.....her hubby was in our class as well. Sunday morning we all packed up...had a nice breakfast out and then said our goodbyes.  The  SouthWest corner of the state is just so beautiful.  Cortez is surrounded by three mountain ranges....The La Plata's, The Mesa Verde and the Sleeping Ute.  They are all beautiful mountain ranges.   I left feeling happy as can be that I attended, but sad that it was all, over.  We had a safe drive home and enjoyed all the views.

On this note, I MUST say goodnight to EVERYFRIEND.

PLEASANT DREAMS TO ALL.

Jenny

CHUCKLES

50th Wedding Anniversary

During their 50th anniversary wedding celebration at a banquet in their honor, my Dad was asked to give a brief account of the benefits achieved from being married for so long.

My father stood up, thought for a long moment, then said, "Well, I've learned that marriage is the best teacher of all. It teaches you loyalty, meekness, forbearance, self-restraint, forgiveness, and...." he paused.

"And?" someone cried out from the back of the room.

"...and a great many other qualities you wouldn't have needed if you'd stayed single!" my father exclaimed.

The room erupted in laughter.

Food For Thought

Promise Keeping

By John Kuperus

Scripture Reading: Matthew 26:31-35, 69-75

Peter declared, “Even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you.”
Matthew 26:35
In the movie It Can Happen to You, a police officer is unable to pay a tip, so he promises the waitress half of a lottery winning the next day if he wins. He wins four million dollars. His wife does not want him to share the money with the waitress. Cage has to decide ¬whether or not to keep his promise, which he does at a price.
Peter made a promise to Jesus: “Even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you.” Yet later that night Peter “wept bitterly” because he had denied three times that he knew Jesus, who had now been arrested. How could Peter be a loyal friend at one moment and then disown Jesus the next?
If we are honest, we have to admit that we could have done the same. Peter was probably afraid that he could be arrested and sentenced with Jesus. In fact, all of Jesus’ disciples deserted him that night. Alone outside at dawn, Peter wept bitterly, having broken his relationship with Jesus. But thankfully Peter’s relationship with Jesus did not end there. After his death and resurrection, Jesus forgave and restored Peter to serve him more boldly than before (John 21:15-19).
Our world is full of broken promises. Yet at the center of life is the promise-keeping God who went to the cross to restore our broken world and our broken lives, calling us to serve. We might fail, but God never does.
Father, thank you for providing a way back into relationship with you even after we fail. May we serve you faithfully and boldly for Jesus’ sake. Amen.

Thought of the Day

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I woke up at my usual time this morning without the help of the alarm (which I forgot to set) and without the help of the dogs.  I guess my internal alarm was working fine.

Our nights are made for sleeping these days but we're still in for some hot days before Fall enters the picture.

Jenny, what a nice weekend you had in your hometown!  Sometimes it's nice to reminisce.  Around here, those of us who never left, get together once a month for breakfast and when anyone comes home for any reason, we gather for dinner. Having had a small class, it makes us appreciate one another more.  This past week, we lost another classmate.  He was a real diamond in the rough!  He would have done anything for any of us.  Everyone loved Dutch!  But he always said it as it was and let the chips fall where they may.  He will be missed.

Joy, I'm so glad to see you checking in.  You may think your life is not reportable but we're always happy to see you!  Come back often!

I'll be off to Wally World later to meet and greet my public.  After the long weekend, I predict that we won't be very busy.  I hope I'm wrong.

I wish you all a good day.  Take it and make it yours.

Good morning from me, too.  Feeling a little tired today.  I felt so good yesterday that I decided to do some vacuuming...(Don't read that part, Joan   ;D).  I think I pushed myself a little too much and am feeling it so will make this a less strenuous day.

Joy, I think the same way....my life is not very exciting so doubt that anyone is interested.  But, just seeing your name show up and reading about your tasty dinner with your family and envisioning the beauty of the woods and the deer and the horses makes me feel good.  Please talk to us often.

And that goes for everyone here.  I always like hearing from each of you.  It's like a nice friendly chat "over the back fence" amongst neighbors and friends.

I too know just how " boring " my life has become...although I would be one of the first to say in my younger and working days there was nothing boring then about my life...I was streetwise, could get myself around London with no problem, very confident with plenty of self esteem...yet over the years a lot of that has now slowly left me...but I do still very much have my brain faculty, re, savvy...But the main thing of S & Fs is that it doesn't matter how boring or busy a life we lead, the most important, and most valuable is, that we show ourselves, and make as regular appearance, and posting that is possible, so that we know that person is in reach, as to corresponding, advising, responding to, resolving problems, giving support, and anything else that is possible to do at the other end of our computer screens......

It doesn't seem that long ago when our Joan used to look forwards to my stories of the people I would meet and stop and chat to, when doing my old Alma Farm dog walk, sadly now, even that has come to an abrupt end for me, not just the fact we have moved home, but my Illness put a stop to that, so no more enjoyable stories to tell...
.....................................
Well I had some fun this morning, R and the dogs had just gone out, I had already done some toast in my brand new toaster which I have to say is very good, toasts both sides evenly but...I had to pop those last two end bits in, only I never adjusted the settings so came out rather burnt and yes, you guessed it, our hall between our office and bedrooms ceiling smoke alarm went off....I immediately opened the kitchens back door, got out my bedroom stall with the intentions of climbing up and putting my hands on each side of the wall for steadiness, but I knew that would have been impossible as my MS nerves have started up again but, just as I was attempting to climb up on the stall that I knew that I wouldn't be able to do anyway, nor even knew I would be able to manually turn it off...... But if it meant the alarm to continue for the next hour until R got back, I would have made sure I would have stopped that loud noise before it drives everyone crazy, including me....Thankfully the alarm stopped all by itself, thank heavens....then it was windows open to allow all the fumes  to escape....Well since we have lived here, R has set the alarm off twice, I have now set it off the once....

Hi everyone.  I have a few minutes before we need to leave for Pat's appointment.  I want to comment about having to have something interesting going on before postings (this is not a criticism but an observation).  Personally, if that was the need most days I wouldn't think of anything to write as most of my weeks are repeats of the previous week with an occasional new experience to write about.  I have felt for a long time it isn't the words we write, although I always find all of the posts interesting whether short or long} but seeing your friends name appear.  I think that is what build the community.  I appreciate even those messages that have a smile emoticon or saying "just marking my spot).  I'll get off my soapbox now and I understand that not everyone is going to agree with me (although I don't know why not! :). Jackie, while I was writing the above I see you posted similar thoughts on our postings.

Jenny, sounds like you had a wonderful reunion in a beautiful place.

Shirley, I don't think I have ever heard of A. Swenson.  Those type of thrill shows were not held in our area or if they were my folks didn't want to spend the money to attend them.

Well said, Jackie and Larry!  I agree.

Jackie, I've found that swishing a towel or a newspaper in the area of the smoke alarm will dispel the smoke and therefore, turn the alarm off.  Opening the door or a window first is necessary.  Don't try to climb.  Try this method first.

I'm off to greet my public!

Good Morning Everyone!

Well the start of a new "short" week after the long holiday weekend.  I have PT this morning at 10 and then noting planned.  Not sure when my Granddaughter is leaving to head back to France.  She is flying back from Austin.  I hate to see her go.  I may never get to see her again, in person.  But maybe if the good Lord is good to me he will bring her and her new husband back for a visit.  I do know she is leaving Austin on the 9th.

Erie light out this morning.  Funny color.  And humid and very warm.  We didn't get any showers or rain yesterday and I turned the news off before weather came on so don't know what they are guessing.

Jackie, guess we have all set off the smoke alarm at one time or another and the piercing sound goes right through you.

Lloyd don't guess you will be going to KC VA then.  I don't thing they furnish cars or drivers.  Your local vet groups may be able to help you out though.  Might give them a call.

I think most of us have pretty much just plain old normal lives.  Family ups and downs and days of not much happening, except just plain old living.  I know I pretty much enjoy my life and am satisfied.  I enjoy my family in SF and my church family and my family, family.  I know I find myself wondering what you all are up to and if some planned even came off "as planned".  I especially like the pictures of all of you and get to see you once in a while.  I love the pictures of the flowers and countryside that JackWV and all the others post.  And especially some of the gettogathers of old.

Anyhow, take care my friends, talk to you later.  It is already 8 here and I need to get a move on.

Jackie, we also have a house alarm system and we have set it off accidentally several times and we always get a call from alarm company wanting to know if we are okay.  Kinda embarrassing, but it does test the system..... ;D

HALKEL.....
...our previous smoke alarm was within reach at the bottom of the stairs at our old home, if it went off, one could just take it off the wall and take out the battery...this one looks more sophisticated, it sits alongside a carbon monoxide gas detector, both look pretty similar in shape and size...Looks like both are attached securely to the ceiling....

Ha ha, at least it didn't take us long to know our smoke alarm was working..

Vanilla-Jackie and Larry--Well said.

Vanilla-Jackie--I've never set the smoke alarm off in this house, but it's gone off because it didn't get changed when it should have been.  I don't climb on ladders so I had to wait a whole day before someone could come to put a new battery in.  That beeping all day was nerve wracking.

Good morning halkel.  I agree that we all pretty much have normal lives with a few different infirmities.  I sure hope you do get to see your granddaughter again.

Good morning everyone, had a good time at my grandson's yesterday, good food and great company. Son and DIL and their younger son  picked me up about 2. I got to see my great grandson and he is a tease already. So cute seeing him walking all around. They had to put gates in just about all doorways. They have a split level so a strong one at the top of those stairs. Have 2 doorways in the kitchen to keep him put of there. He sure does not like those, likes to get into the kitchen to open all the cabinets and pull every thing out.  He has that twinkle in his eyes when he does something he has been told NO. Just like my grandson did at that age.
Had some strong wind when we left to come home and it was just starting to sprinkle. Just showers  and no heavy rain. Mush less wind today, so much for the weather guessers' predictions of what we would get from the remnants of the hurricane.

LARRY  when my grandson was here Saturday setting this PC up he was having a problem booting, git the black screen with the white bar on the bottom saying Files Loading. That is why I sent it back. He unplugged my external and tried again and it booted. He told me the PC was trying to boot from the external and to unplug it when I shut down. Easy to do using the port in the front. Now that is what I do. It is a pain but if it works I will do it. I have not installed any of the programs I use so will do that one at a time to see what happens.

JOAN  I am glad this machine is working again. I really spend too much time right here but I cannot do much of anything anymore. I know when I got home last night I just washed up and went to bed. Too tired for anything else. Going up the few stairs at grandson's took a tole and then just sitting there for hours did not help.

PHYLLIS  this town is still mostly rural and sure could use some parks. I know of only 2 of them. Not much for kids to do here. Unless kids are into sports it is no surprise they can get into trouble.

CALLIE  my #2 son and his wife and daughter wanted to go to a fair in Ct. yesterday, don't know if they went or not. Was not a good day for it.

PATRICIA  my grandson did BBQ outside yesterday but we ate inside. Best chicken I have had in a long time.

JUNE  my 2 sons are not far from where I am but my daughter is 3000 miles away. We do get together every day with the computer.  Now with the iPhone we can get together with that. Makes me glad we have these electronics now.

GLORIA de  glad that storm missed you. Saw on morning news this morning some clips of the shore here with some waves I would like to watch from a safe distance. I am happy to be back here with my cyber family.

CALLIE  like you I do not expect my local family to be here every day to “entertain” me. #1 has just retired and I have seen him more since then and I love it. #2 son is where I was living in the second floor apartment and he comes here almost every Saturday or Sunday. Both call several ties every week and ask if I need anything. Daughter and I see each other every day on Skype except when they are in Arizona. When they finally move there they will get the dish to get online. I am glad I don't do guilt trips.

JOY  my life is not interesting either but I am here every day just commenting on posts of this “family”.

LLOYD  I am the last of my family but we were scattered all over the country. Have lost track of nieces and nephews. Not a close knit family.

JEANNE LEE  wonder if I can find the pictures I took at the Yankee Candle when the Thomas family visited here.

HAL  as much as I enjoyed yesterday, like you I was bone tired when I got home. Not used to getting out much anymore. Missed my half hour of laying down in the afternoon. No I do not nap, just resting my back.

SHIRLEY  hope you slept longer last night.

JENNY  you made me jealous with the views you saw. Mountain views always fascinated me, nothing like that here in RI.

JOAN  will enjoy your blueberry coffeecake. Love anything blueberry. Food for Thought, wonder how many did keep their word. Good quote. I never was one who wanted every luxury others had. Thank you for all today's goodies.

JANE  forecast here is for summer heat again when the remnants of this storm finally move away.

Good morning, Gloria.  Glad you had a good time with family yesterday.  Your little great grandson reminds me of Joe when he was small.  He got into everything even 'tho we tried to child proof things.  The girls were much more docile.

And a very Good Morning from Stanton, Ca. It is overcast again, which I like, so I can have my full wall of blinds open to the outside world. I face the East, so a sunny morning requires closing the blinds, or at least part way. I do have one single window that faces South..it is joined with the others in a corner wall, but I can leave those blinds open all the time.

Everyone sounds well this morning and that makes me happy.

Jackie, I am glad you did not attempt to try to close that smoke alarm. It would be very foolish to take a chance on a broke bone or bones. You have enough to put up with right now.

We have a Community Members meeting this morning, which happens once a month and I always attend that. New members are welcomed and invited to speak if they want to.

Then there is the creative writing class, but I believe I will drop out of that. I don't want to be too involved anymore and they meet every week now. In mid afternoon is our Balance and Mobility class, and that I do attend twice a week...gottta keep the body moving, and they cover all areas....even ankle exercise.

So, my dear friends, it is time to make the bed and get the day started. We are not welcome to venture out wearing our pajamas. :-[

June--It's so nice that you have so many activities there from which you can pick and choose.  I close my blinds in the front of the house mid-afternoon when the sun starts streaming in and making it hotter in here.

Good after noon.   I am too late to say good morning.

I was up early and ate breakfast and then when back to bed.

I will start off by saying "Hi ! " to Joan,  Jane, Jackie, and Jenny and hope I remembered them all.   And, also another big "Hi ! " to all the other friends here.  It is really a nice group and it is nice to have so many "cyber" friends.

I do appreciate all the nice comments from all of you.   Larry and Jackie expressed  "interesting life" very well.  Thank you both for the nice comments.  I will try to look at things a little different and maybe I will be surprised at how interesting little things can turn out to be.

Since I live by myself and have some medical problems,  I tend to put things off and think that I really don't have to do something if I really don't want to.  I need some motivation to get me moving.

I live in a Independent Living apartment place.  It is nice, but nothing like the place where June lives.  There are about 125 people in 85 apartments.  When I first moved here, almost 9 years ago, it was a lot more things going on. Over that time, we have had 5 or 6 managers.  I just can't put my finger on the problem of why that is.  Lots of negativity and lots of nit-picking goes on.  When I first came here, there was a lot of activities. But, over time, the attendance has just gone down and down.  They stopped playing bingo, because there was so much complaining going on.  That didn't affect me as I didn't play bingo.  There used to be a craft group and hardly anyone showed up .  I do know that when there are such a varied group of so many different personalities, everyone cannot be agreeable all the time.  And, there is a small group that just have nothing more to do than to sit and complain.  And, there are some here who should be in an assistant living place.  The ambulance is here at least once a week.  We do have a very nice man now who is manager and things do seem to be working out better.  He does seem to be getting some things done that have needed done for a while.  And, everybody likes him a lot.

I have gotten back into a group that plays dominoes and cards several times a week.  And, I do admit, that when I have something to do like that,  I do feel a lot better.   So, hopefully, I can get myself back on track and start finding some interesting things to help change my attitude.

It is a beautiful sunny day here in Central Maryland.  We had no effects of the storm that came up the Atlantic coast over the week end.  Of course, down at the Eastern Shore beaches, it was kind of a dreary weekend.  Although it did clear off for most of Sunday and Monday.  Lots of wind, beach erosion, but at least people were able to get out and enjoy the sunshine and the boardwalks.  No swimming signs were up, but there were still lots of surfers who took advantage of the strong waves.  Always some that will take that chance.

Since I have written lots more than I had planned,  I will think about going to get some lunch.  Since I had a good morning nap, I feel a little more energized.  I will go down to play cards after supper.

Hope all the friends will have a wonderful afternoon and evening.

Joy

Good Morning,  Good Afternoon (computer clock just changed to 12:00 noon)

Good to see everyone.

Gloria, Littlies are so cute when they begin to think for themselves, even if they are mischievous.  When my Grands were at the exploring stage,  I put some pots/pans/measuring cups and a wooden spoon in a bottom kitchen cabinet.  Had the others strapped shut but they felt so smart when they could open that one and drag everything out.

Ah, c'mon June.   Young folks can be seen in public wearing what look like pajamas.  You could start a trend.

My wall of blinds is on the north but most of my other windows are on the west and I close those blinds or pull the drapes when the afternoon sun begins to shine directly in.  Since I'm in a duplex,  I don't have any windows on the east.  I'm grateful for the window wall on the north and a slightly bowed window on the south.

Most of my morning was spent at the grocery store.  Been a long time since the car trunk has been filled with sacks - but I needed to stock up.
Had to get "creative" to find something for lunch yesterday.  Of course, I could have hopped in the car and gone through the drive-up of several fast food places within a mile of my house but.......can we say  "Lazy"??

Off to see if I remembered to bring anything home from the grocery store that would do for lunch today.

Behave yourselves.    :hugs:

Good morning from a wet and foggy Interior day! Farrah is on guard, window watching, against any birds, bugs or whatever might try to beach our/her apartment!

Thank you, folks, for indulging me yesterday, this summer of rain has begun to get to me as well as make my old bones ache.  :(

I have my online family, friends here, those who haven't retired and moved to be near grandchildren, the new friends in this building, and Farrah, so I'm actually  content.

I enjoy reading about all of you and miss those who don't post. Joy, your times and dinner sounded so good that I wanted to invite myself over!

Jackie, Jeanne Lee, Amy, Jane, June, Joan, Jenny,  Callie, Gloria de. and GloriaZ, Lloyd, Larry,Hal and all, thank you for my morning chat over coffee each day!

:welcome:

Hello  and Good Afternoon (EST)
here on the rocky coast of Maine.   Weather is
starting to cool down,  but remains very,  very
comfortable.

I spend much of my time now doing what I have
always done.   Sit at my desk,  on the computer,
watching what ever  on  cable.   TV and Movies.

My new smart phone is keeping me busy getting
it all straightened  out.    It has a couple of
issues,  (like the wrong name on my caller
ID),  but I am working with Project Fi (thru Google)
to get it all straightened out.

I do love my smart phone and have just
found out how to use it to figure out
the Metro Buses  which have two stops
right out my side my doors.

I consider my smart phone a TOY that
I deserve.    I have been without one
since I came off the road back in 2012...
But now I am back on live.

Have a good day Everyone.
Sandy

Jackie, and others, I also have set off the smoke alarm.  The worst time I with it, I found out I had "killed" my microwave.  I had put a partially baked potato in it and set it for too many minutes.  I could not figure where the noise was coming from but I could see a haze in front of the slider in the living area.  I learned in a hurry how long to NOT put potatoes in the microwave.

We had an interesting morning here as our power went off about 5 am.  And nothing worked - phone, computer even my TracFone did not work but that was my fault; I probably put it back in my purse when it was still on.  The phone was deadern a doornail.  Fortunately the water worked.  My retiree friends and I met at a Chinese restaurant this noon and Tom took me.  When we got home, everything was working but the power guys were still here.  I think I heard their truck leave just now.  The power had come on while we were gone and it was nice to come into a cool house.

JOY.....
....that really saddens me and angers me that your " Independent Living " care-home had put on two things that because of low attendance, are no more - have been abandoned.....Bingo and crafts might not be everybody's tastes, but it gives lonely people a chance to talk, chat, smile, laugh, and be in like minded company for an hour or two, just doing those things takes ones mind off of problems for that short period, and does wonders for ones morale, well-being and spirit..It is the same for me when I go to my monthly MS social evening, I always come home happy in the fact that I went.....I say shame on those people who find all they can do is moan, they dont realise just how well off they are-were...

Joy I want to personally thank you for giving me - us, an insight into your daily life....At least I can tell you try to make the effort, even if others in your care home cant be bothered...

I am happy to read you have now settled into a card and domino group....

JUNEDRABEK....
Callie K, is right.....it only takes one brave person to lead, and all others will soon follow....go on, go out in those jim - jams ( Pyjamas ) and be the modern day leader, go start that trend off.....
Oh, and we want to see those photos....

Good afternoon, dear friend,  Would you believe we still are in a Tropical Storm Watch until Thursday. Hermine has stalled off of Eastern Long Island, it is raining, and still 45 mil. gust.  Not a beach day, even the L.I Sound had 7ft. waves, 3 men were fishing and they were swept out into the Sound and 2 of them drown.

Jenny, Sounds like a great reunion. Many years ago, I spent two weeks in Col. Springs.  I could lay in bed and look at the Mts. Just beautiful.

Amy prays that your husband gets a good report.

Shirley, I average about 4 hours sleep at night. Al my life I have had trouble sleeping.  Even when I worked and had to have the office open at 6AM to admit, the pre ops. I did not go to bed early. Now I go to bed about 11, read and watch TV until 1 or 2.

Jackie, my smoke alarms goes off every time I  turn the gas stove on to cook, I turn the over head fan on, but it finally goes off after I turn the gas off.

Gloria, I am glad to see you were out and had such a nice time, with family. This time we werr lucky with the storm.  Although it is pouring right now, and blowing.

June, as always you said it all

Joy, I do come in here serveral times a day to read, but I am too lazy to post. I always enjoy reading others, also yours.  I try to keep busy but it is not easy, when walking and breathing are bad.  I am lucky that I have friends that take me places.  I still do drive to Stop and Shop, and meetings in the park.

Phyllis, We have Stocky Park, in Polish Town, it is very large 3 base ball fields, roller skating rinks, picnic grounds, Day care nursey, tennis courts etc. Riverhead is very good to their young people and seniors.
Joan Good afternoon,  Jess, called Sunday, he is able to stand by himself, they are going to send him to another spine care hosp., He said all he wants to do is go back to work, even if he has to be in a wheel chair. His mother is having a ramp built at her house. Again thanks for all the prays.

In our building,(One of seven, locally); it has five floors and 196 one bedroom apartments, but in some ways is similar to Joy's. And of course, most activities stop in the summer.  On Sundays, there is a different religious service in each of the five common rooms and the first floor social room.

There is also a 6:30 Bible study on Thursday evenings. Mondays are bimonthly Resident's Floor Council meetings, on the five floors and different times.  It also has Sweet Adaline's group singing practices.

This Tuesday, Bingo begins again after a summer hiatus. Wednesdays are Senior Stretches, Tai Chi, Fall Prevention, Medicare introduction and discussions and the local library bookmobile. all at different times and common rooms. Fridays are Craft's Club and the Building Resident's Council meetings, staggered times are opposite of the Floor Council meetings. That is all I see on September's Calendar.

However, there are often various groups on medical conditions, fire safety, NAMI, Senior Center, book various times and presentations. We used to have more clubs also but now besides Crafts's there is just the Birthday club that comes on your birthday with a small cake, candles, and Happy Birthday rendition, and of course the Welcoming Committee with free small gift items and a food basket.

However, we are more of a disabled apartment building instead of a residence. I think the other buildings are more inclusive.

Good Morning Gloria!

I only wish there were things going on here where I now live, but there doesn't seem to be...I know a few months ago when we went to our parksite's AGM meeting, held in an outside village hall, we were briefed on some things that took place last year such as July a BBQ was held, November a fireworks display, then December Christmas Carols, not sure what part of our site they were held on but, so far nothing has taken place since we have been here....I will wait and see if or what takes place at the end of our year...

We have no parkhome clubroom, so crafts, cards, bingo, or domino is a definite no no...so no chance of socialising..

Joy--I enjoyed reading about where you live and what goes on there.

Callie--I bet a trunk full of groceries cost a few bucks.:)

angelface--I enjoy having you posting here and learning about your lifestyle.

Mary Ann--Glad you have power back.  If mine goes off for very long, I have to go elsewhere.  Sounds like you had a nice lunch with your friends.

Janie--Hope you are catching some ZZZs.

Sandy--Glad you are getting all the "kinks" worked out of your new phone.

Linedancer--Seems that unrelenting wind is very dangerous.  Jessie continues to be in my daily prayers.

Vanilla-Jackie--It seems attendance at activities in these complexes is up and down.

Larry, my parents would never have gone to the shows, they didn't go to the fair except when Mother was asked to take an arrangement for her Garden Club Circle competition and Dad always went the week before the Fair to help the Shriners get the wiring and mechanical things working for their fund raiser "stall", I think they had a permanent building on the grounds.

I dropped by the various grandstand shows because "back in the day" they were free with admission to the Fair, and I always got in free because "locals" got jobs first.  I started working the fair at 14, would be the usual 10 days of the Fair plus some jobs started a day or so before.  A friend & I baby sat the first year,  before the job selling hot dogs, for a couple that owned some of the jewelry stalls.... She showed us photos taken of the baby (they lived in CA when not doing the fairs), he was a model and at one stage was the Gerber baby face.  We just sat on the steps of their trailer and went to tell her when the baby woke up.

The Fairgrounds was open all year & my friend's family kept a horse stabled there except for the weeks vacated to house the show & race horses.  This was our playground and we would hang out watching as horses would be brought in weeks before the shows, even with their own bluegrass to eat, and with the Budweiser horses, their own tents and supplies.  We visited with everyone and were allowed to pet the horses.

The last couple summers I worked in the Administration Building, ran the information booth.  All the politicians and entertainers came through that building so was fun.  Grandstand shows were often people that had been on Ed Sullivan,  singers, comedians, the auto trick drivers, race cars and Grand Circuit Harness Racing.   In the early '50s the fair was touted to be "2nd largest in the US".... (TX was the biggest).

A tornado hit one night, I lived about 11 blocks from the main entrance and my parents & I woke up to close windows and went back to sleep.  When I got to the fairgrounds at 6:00 am the guards were not allowing anyone in but since I had an "administration button" I got through.  As I walked to the Admin building I saw a huge truck about halfway up a tree (large old trees), looked down the mile long carnival grounds to see the 3 ferris wheels that stood side by side the night before, laying on the ground twisted together.  All the tents for side shows down or gone... unbelievable damage.   http://internationalindependentshowmensmuseum.org/carnival-and-circus-history/the-massive-funnel-cloud-that-landed-on-the-fairgrounds/   (http://internationalindependentshowmensmuseum.org/carnival-and-circus-history/the-massive-funnel-cloud-that-landed-on-the-fairgrounds/)

Long story but why I was exposed to stunt driving shows and Grand Circuit Harness Racing & so many other early 1950s entertainment, it came with the territory.  My mother always said that "when Shirley left the house she would look up and tell God that she was in His hands", I was fearless....( It helped that the older kids paved the way and wore her down before I came along.)  I had a wonderful life and even realized it at the time.  We didn't have a lot of money compared with some of my best friends, but they loved being around my parents because my parents were never too busy to sit down and talk to them any time the friends came, even after my brothers & sister & I left home.

Mary Ann, my microwave still gives off a whiff of burned popcorn at times.  It was horrible at the time.

Need to check the battery in the smoke alarm that is near the ceiling in the hall leading to the garage.  It goes off any time I brown meat or do anything that sort of steams up the kitchen.  I know I took the battery out since Cas died and not sure I put it back, got tired of going to the garage door & fanning the door back & forth to swish out smoke and pulled in fresh air.  I'd always turn on the fan over the stove AFTER the alarm goes off (drove Cas nuts).

Gloria, been meaning to tell you that when I was having so much trouble with my old laptops my son advised me to not turn them off (shut down) at all.... let them go to sleep with screen saver moving, wiggle the mouse next time I want to use & I haven't had any trouble since.  Well not any except when I manage to touch something that changes things.... right now I have my pictures messed up on the computer downstairs, can't drag photos from one folder to another .... He came by today & power washed the bottom of the pool, drained out the yucky stuff & I am now filling it again until time to winterize in Nov.  Pain in the neck but gotta be done.

Janie--Glad you got some zzzs.  Now scoot to the kitchen, and start the things you wanted to do. I just knew you were considerate when bagging everyone's items.

Callie--Yep, it made a good story.  Now go sit in the corner.:)

Shirley--You sure spent many years doing a variety of jobs at the Fair.

Joy, thank you for your interesting post. This is the second place away from my home that I have lived in and I must say, it is by far the best. Even though I am considered Independent, I still have so many benefits. Always have some one checking up on us. And being here with all of you makes my day complete.

Callie, hey…..what is this "behave yourselves" stuff. We have earned the right to mis-behave now. That is one of the benefits of aging, and the older we get, the more "rights" we have. I really have not learned yet to walk around outside in my P.J.'s though. I sure wouldn't want to be tossed out of here for flagrancy.

Patricia, You are wise to choose contentment. Me too. life is too short to allow discontent to sneak in on us.

Jacquie…uh.uh. I have lost so much weight that the p.j.s are slipping down on their own now, and what I have left to reveal is rather frightening to the eye, if you know what I mean.

Gloria de, I am SO happy to hear the good news on Jess. I pray God continues the healing, and Jess will soon be able to back to work. God is Good.

Time to think about heating something up for supper. My little refrigerator is stacked to the gills with food. I over-ordered last time I got on the net with Vons. They are having salmon patties downstairs, but I'm too lazy to go out again, and socialize. Had a big lunch with good friends, and that's enough for the day.

Will drop in later to say goodnight.

Today was the bus from our community  to Black Hawk, our casino town.  I really was not much in the mood to go, but my friend called very early and talked me in to it.  I enjoyed the ride but those darn machines we tighter than ever!

GLORIA de,
I am happy to read that Jess is progressing nicely.  I can only imagine how much he wants to get back to work.

Thank you all that made comments about my nice weekend get away for the class reunion.  I am still enjoying it in my mind.

GLORIA
Bob and I commented many times about a view that we knew you would enjoy.  There were many, but sadly they just do not turn out all that well on our telephones.

Jackie
After I got in bed last night I realized that I forgot to say good morning to you!  We have never set a smoke alarm off in this home that we have lived in for 12 years.  Have in many other homes that we lived in! Sure glad you did not attempt to climb the step stool.  Fanning like Jane and maybe others said was of course the correct thing to do.

It is time to fix a little salad for us to munch on, so I must say good night.

Pleasant dreams to all.

Jenny

Shirley, my microwave did not survive the fire from the potato, which was burned to a crisp.  The plastic top drooped at the corners and it looked like a tester bed.  I could do nothing but laugh and the next day I went down the avenue and bought a new microwave.

Today I met with my retiree women friends at a Chinese restaurant.  I had Sweet and Sour Chicken.  I ate a portion of it and brought the rest home.  Tonight, I took the food from the box, heated it and ate some of it.  I still have enough for at least one more meal, if not two meals.  Not only that, Dot and I are going out to lunch tomorrow for the "family" gathering.  Tom will not be with us because he is preparing to take a friend, and a friend of that friend, to Penna so the friend's friend can visit her son.  They will go to State College PA.

The cat has had his treats and has retreated to the lower level where he usually spends the night.  He wants to go out so badly and I won't let him out; I don't trust him!

CHUCKLES

4 Year Ceiling

A young woman, pursuing a graduate degree in art history, was going to Italy to study the country's greatest works of art. Since there was no one to look after her grandmother while she was away, she took the old lady with her. At the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican, she pointed to the painting on the ceiling.

"Grandma, it took Michelangelo a full four years to get that ceiling painted."

"Oh my, "the grandmother says. "He and I must have the same landlord."

Food For Thought

Traditions: Decent Servants, Lousy Masters
(by Kerry S. Doyal)

Don't get me wrong, I am the first to acknowledge that God's Word does many great and glorious things: it encourages, brings life, tells us of Jesus and salvation, it instructs and warns us.. The list is incredibly, eternally endless. However, God's Word can haunt you too.

Yes, haunt you; track you down, taunt and torment you. Praise God it does. Readers of God's Word - especially those seeking to follow Him - know what I mean.

The story in Mark 7:1-13 ends with a phrase that we would be blessed to haunt us. In this tale of conflict - initiated by the Jewish scholars and Pharisees - Jesus lofts out a phrase that needs to sweep through our hearts, homes and churches.

Accusing Him of letting His disciples break the Traditions of the Elders (eating with ceremonially unclean hands), these religious leaders indignantly demand just cause for deviating from their customs. He lets His followers ignore the Traditions. Such sloppy living demeans Him, the disciples' Rabbi.

Mind you, Jesus' disciples had not broken God's Law. They had crossed a line of religious practice, and that was more than enough. The tone of Jesus' reply tells us how important this was to both Jesus and His accusers. After all, when Jesus publicly calls you a hypocrite, you must have stirred the wrong pot.

When Jesus says your worship is in vain and that your heart is far from the God you say you love - look out! When He tells you that you have replaced God's Word with your own traditions, setting aside His Law for your personal pious preferences - YIKES!

The Pharisee's well-intended desire to guard God's Law had led them to make rules that had become laws themselves. Their Traditions - which they called "fences to protect the law" - were originally godly applications and principles to help people live a devout life. Yet, as is often the case, they became the standards of righteousness, obedience, and fidelity to God and His Word.

Back to our haunting phrase. Jesus exposed a slick loophole they used to dishonor their parents and break the fifth commandment. While their use of Corban (gifts dedicated to God) was seen as spiritual, Jesus saw it as evil. He chastened: "Thus you nullify the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And you do many things like that." Mark 7:13 (NIV)

Did you hear it? Has it started its holy haunting work yet? In case you missed it, here it is: "And you do many things like that." While that "you" was aimed at the Pharisees, it has more than a residual challenge for us. Yes, we too do many things like them, having standards that have become laws in and of themselves. Dare to consider a few?

We fear people will get drunk so we declare all drinking a sin, though most believers around the world imbibe wine regularly. Fear of drunkenness - which is clearly a sin - is wise and biblical. But to try to prevent it by setting up a fence that God did not is to set our well-intended rule above God's Word.

Personally, I do not drink. Know the old word "teetotaler?" I hope for the same for my children when they reach adulthood. But to say all drinking is always a sin is to go beyond Scripture. Doing so dishonors God and His Word, no matter how noble the motive. "And you do many things like that."

Indeed, dancing can lead to immorality. I would rather not face the temptation of seeing sweet young things gyrate to pulsating music. Does it Biblically follow that all dancing is sin? "You do many things like that."

Playing cards may lead to gambling, movies may lead to defilement, eating in a restaurant that serves beer may cause misunderstandings, too much jewelry and makeup can call undue attention to one's self. However, are there solid biblical grounds for our ground rules? "Many things like that."

Pianos were the contemporary musical instrument of their day a few hundred years ago. Organs - when first invented - pumped out contemporary Christian music. Now, they are a standard of pure worship for many. Their absence or presence can damn or vindicate a church.

Before we get arrogant, the sword cuts both ways. For some, if your church has drums and guitars, you're obviously filled with the Spirit, not bound by traditions. Our newest Tradition? "Many things like that."

In some churches, one could drop the doctrine of the Trinity easier than you could stop having Sunday School, a wonderful 200-year-old ministry tool, which has [often] "strayed" from its original street-ministry evangelistic roots. "Many things."

Mid-week prayer meeting and evening services are more holy to some than Biblical unity. I have not begun to speak of hymnals, choirs, overheads, vestments, orders of service, guys wearing ties and keeping their hair off their ears and collar, skirts verses slacks, diets, parenting and educational convictions, translations, select boycotts. "Many."

We need to be people of convictions, yet never go beyond God's Word. We must allow the Spirit of God to guide, restrain and liberate. We can rely on God's sustaining and perfecting grace, trusting Him and His methods to mature us.

Some of our Traditions, though nobly birthed, have grown into monsters that need slaying. May God's Word haunt us until we hear and heed it, even if it means violating "rules" that we have devoutly followed for years.

Thought of the Day

"The most segregated hour of the week in America is the eleven o'clock Sunday morning Christian church service."

- Billy Graham, 1960

Had breakfast and fed the doggies and I'm feeling a mite better.  It was a bit of the dizzies when I moved too fast and it seems to have passed.  We'll see as the day progresses.

Amy, your hubby is in my prayers.  Like Jackie, I hope this is his last bout and he can enjoy the good life.

Amy, I have only good thoughts and best wishes for your DH...and for you, too.

Jane, sorry you aren't feeling too good this morning but glad to hear that it is a little better.  Keep that trend going!  But, beware of the dizzies.  We don't want you fainting.

Good morning/afternoon, Jackie.  I need to get my hair cut, too.  I have an appointment next week.

Lloyd, that is so true!  Dealing with old age and all of the stuff it brings is one of the hardest things I have ever had to do.  The Golden Years seen to be a little too tarnished for my taste.

Hope you are doing OK today, Joan.  Take it easy since it is supposed to be hot again.  Summer just won't let go.  I'll have a sticky bun, please, but I'll save it 'till later.  I have my first appointment with the cardiologist today and my stomach is feeling a little tight.  However, it will be good to get some answers and some direction on what I can, and can't, do.

Be good, everyfriend, or if you can't be good, be careful.   ;)

Lloyd--Good morning.  Good for you giving yourself the shot.

Vanilla-Jackie--Good morning/afternoon.  "R" is lucky that the hairdresser comes to your home for haircuts.

Janie--I hope you continue to feel better.

Good morning, Phyllis.  I'm sure you have anxiety going to the cardiologist.  I pray he has good things to tell you.

Good morning.  Another pretty sunny morning here in Central Maryland.

I thought I would make an appearance before I get busy doing something else.

Jane,  hope by now you are feeling better.

Joan, thanks for the good breakfast this morning.  Sticky buns are a real special treat.

Phyllis, hope you will get good news from your doctor's appointment today.  And, Amy, hoping for good news for your husband, also.

Jackie,  where I live, we have a hairdresser who comes in once a week and she has several male residents who get their hair cut here. The only problem is, she is very busy, coming only one day a week.  I was lucky to be able to get an appointment for this Sat. as there was a cancellation. She leaves  appointment sheets for several weeks ahead,  outside the little beauty parlor for the residents to make an appointment.  These fill up quickly.  She works pretty fast, so she can work on quite a few people during the time she is here.

Hope every friend here will have a good day.  Going to see what needs to get done today.

Joy

Just booked my hair appointment online, didn't realise how busy it would be....the man who done my hair last time is fully booked up until 20th September...I have taken and booked that appt, but, was hoping to get my hair done in-time for next Tuesdays MS Social evening, I should have booked it sooner....I am also trying to plan the midway timing, so my hair will next be ready just in-time for my MS Christmas lunch which I have booked my place for the 3rd of Dec, by then my hair will be ready for its next cut which I plan to book for end of November,....then I should be looking neat and tidy, or at least my hair will be........

...PHYLLIS....
...not as easy a task as it sounds...putting pen to paper and jotting down questions we want answers to...As for me, I can guarantee I will leave off one or two of the most  crucial and important questions, that only come to mind once I have LEFT the consultants office...and, or, half way back to the car...
..........................................................

Booking an Opticians ( eye testing ) is next on my to do agenda....I had already done an online search, so have one in mind that I plan to use....a small family run concern in Dorchester, unlike these big discounted Optician chains that are now springing up, that seems most people are choosing to use....ie...Specsavers...Boots...Vision Express...

Good morning everyone, going to be hot and humid today. Back into summer heat for the rest of this week.

JOAN  my 3 were not like that and neither was my grandson.

JOY  this place has changed since I moved here 2 years ago. Not much of anything going on.

CALLIE  my grandson did put childproof things on the cabinet doors but the little smarty learned how to open them.

PATRICIA  I am still trying to rest up after Monday's outing. The rain has not helped any and we are still getting showers on and off. Need some dry sunny days.

Gloria de  we are still getting some rain and waves from that hurricane.

SHIRLEY  I have always shut down at night. Maybe I should just put it to sleep and see what happens. Right now I think I need a new mouse and pad, think both are worn out. Cannot get the wireless one to do what I want and the wired one is even worse. I want a new keyboard, too. The one that came with this PC was quite small and I kept hitting 2 keys. The one I am using is old and some of the keys I have to hit hard.

JENNY  I had my iPhone with me Monday but since I have yet to try the camera I did not take any pictures of my little great grandson. Have a lot to learn about it before I am comfortable with it.

JOAN  a sticky bun will be so good this morning. Of course it is so late now I think it will be my brunch. Great Chuckle. Thank you for today's goodies. Hope you get all your errands done in good time so you can get home to your comfortable home.

AMY  I send prayers for your DH and you, too.

LLOYD  you are so right, the golden years are not easy. It will be a week before I recuperate from my trip out on Monday.

PHYLLIS  no doctor appointments are fun.

Hope to make it back later. Of course I just might be sleeping early.

Hi everyone on another partly cloudy morning.  We are expecting to get to 96 degrees this afternoon.  This morning I took Pat to the hospital lab for some blood tests in preparation for her GP appointment on Friday.  Since she fasted  for the tests we ate breakfast/lunch out, which Pat enjoyed.  Then this afternoon she has another Chiropractic treatment.  At 5:30 are Wednesday dinners at church finally begin again and Scott and I will attend.  Pat does not plan to attend them this year, at least not now, as the food doesn't fit the eating plan she is following.  We then look forward to Scott spending some time with us this evening.

Yesterday was an exhausting day and I slept for about 9 hours last night but still am very tired this morning.  I have put out hamburger for Pat's dinner tonight and will fix some Balsamic mushrooms for her that she really likes.  The rest of today I plan on taking it easy.  I did get good results from the doctor yesterday.  The Ultrasound of my liver was fine and the blood work he had done was OK.  The blood was drawn in his office and tested with a machine right in their office and was done in a matter of a couple of minutes.

Good Morning Everyone!

Janie, sorry to hear you a bit under the weather.  Hopefully it is just a passing thing.

Not much happening here this morning.  My Granddaughter is getting packed up to head to Austin when wife gets back from Meal on Wheels.  She leaves the states for France on Saturday.

Nothing much on my agenda today.  Get a little rest this week, next week, wow! busy, busy.  Appointments every day.  Either doctor or ultra sound.

Lloyd hope you are feeling better, I know you will be happy when the clot is gone and you can get off the rat poison.  But bet you have to stay on a blood thinner.

Anyhow, need another cuppa coffee.

Good Morning all, It is past noon on the East Coast, so I am very late for some of you. But..I got involved in sending out a cyber Birthday Card to my Gr. Grandson Zachary. He has started school already and it seems like he was born yesterday. And he is leaving hid little brother and sister at home as he ventures out on the school bus. How do the years go by so quickly ??

Jackie, never fear, I will never be tempted to meander outside in my P.J.'s. This place is run by the Quaker religion folks and I would never want to flagrantly spoil the dignity of this fine organization. They are a non-profit organization, and I think that is why we receive so much for the money we spend living here. I even feel a bit guilty when I open a can of beer.

Amy, I am so sorry your dh will require surgery. We will hopefully pray it will be the cure that allows him to live the rest of his life in freedom from illness and pain.

Lloyd, hopefully you are on the curing of your ills. It may take time, but God knows you need some "time out" from all the hard work you do. Call in the Troops..your kids…and let them take over some of the essential work that needs doing. Don't be too proud to ask for help. You gave them life, and I'm sure they are grateful enough to give help when needed.

Janie, I pray your day goes very well. Please don't push yourself too hard though, what you felt this morning may be a message to slow down and take care.

Larry, It is good to hear your liver test and blood work was fine. That is encouraging isn't it ?And I am glad you are able to drive as much and as well as you do. I have to admit, I have never been sorry I had to give up my car. When I realized I could be a serious risk, it was easy to accept other transportation. Living here, the only need for me to leave the property would be vision and teeth. Those two things they do not do here. If the time comes, they have a care facility building that is like a mini hospital, right here on the property. It would be more costly living there, but you would be assured of loving care. I feel very blessed.

Hal, I don't understand why your daughter is going to live in France ? Is is work related, or what. I guess I am a died in the wool Patriot, even though things are going to pot politically. I have left the U.S. only to cross the border to Vancover…one time…and found it beautiful, or dozens of times to take relatives to Tijuana for shopping…when it was safe and fun.

I'm home after a morning of gallivanting.  After doing errands, I met up with some lady friends and we had brunch.

Joy--Sure is convenient to have a hairdresser come to your place.

Vanilla-Jackie--It seems many are getting their hair cut/styled.  I guess I should make an appointed to get sheared.

Gloria--It is hot and humid here today, too.  It sure doesn't take those little tykes long to figure out devices that are used to keep them out of certain places.

Larry--I bet a change of scenery and breakfast out was enjoyable for Pat.  GREAT that you fix her meals to coincide with the food plan she's following.  Glad to hear you got a good report from your doctor yesterday.

halkel--I'm sure you're sad to have your granddaughter leave.  It's about time I found a few ZZZs on the couch after my busy morning.

June--I've got to get busy and address some snail mail cards after I have a short rest.

Well June, she went to France to get her Master's degree there in Biology and met the man of her life.  In short, she is marrying a Frenchman.  She had to return to Texas to get a new visa, which she has obtained and now returning to get married.
The guy she is marrying was also attending the same university and graduated at the same time.

Good Wednesday morning to EVERYFRIEND!

JACKIE
Thank you, I did sleep tight!  Wish I could find someone to come to our home and cut hair.... I just dread going and then after it is done I am so happy!  Not always with the cut it's self, but to have it done.  Shame one has to plan ahead, but if you want to get in to a special person I guess you just make the appointment as you leave the one you are at.  I know you are right about those darn slots.....I just wish for once they would pay ME as I am tired of supporting others!

JANIE
Sorry you work up feeling punk.....hope you are much better now that you are at work.

GLORIA
I wish I could spend a few minutes with you to help you learn how to use your iPhone.  I sure would loved to see a picture of that GGrand boy.

AMY
Your DH has sure had a rough time of it....please know that you both are in my thoughts and prayers.

PHYLLIS
Holding good thoughts for you today as you go to your cardiologist.  Hugs.

JOY
good to see you posting again....you were missed.  Hope your day goes well.

LLOYD
Good for you giving yourself the shot.  Being a diabetic I get a lot of poking myself time too.  Feel better buddy and get that clot dissolved.

JOAN
Good to read that your gallivanting is over for the day! You pretty much said what I feel I get when I go in for my haircut....it is just that, a SHEARING!  Thank you again and again for our daily goodies you leave for us.

LARRY
So happy that your doctors report regarding blood work is good.  Sure happy that Pat seems to be improving...please give her my best.

HAL
I am feeling sad for you as you tell your Granddaughter goodbye.....it is hard at our ages as we just never know....I send good positive thoughts that you and she will indeed see each other again!

Bob is watching the live  "propaganda" coverage about the new iPhone, etc. that is due out soon.

I best get myself busy and accomplish something today!

JUNE
Before I away...just have to send a special HUG to you.  I ALWAYS  love reading what you are up to.

Have a good day.

Hello Everyfriend!  I'm home from work feeling somewhat better but the "dizzies" are still in the background.  The last time this happened, I had a middle ear infection.  I hope that's not what's causing this.  If I turn too quickly, bend and then straighten too fast or tilt my head back, I can feel that feeling.  I'm going to keep checking and if it doesn't clear up, I'll call the Dr.

I think right now, I'll check out the sofa.  Might be a few zzzzs I missed and I'll be able to gather them.  Enjoy your day, Everyfriend!

Janie--Hope after some ZZZs the dizzy feeling is gone. If not it'd be wise to call the doctor.

We are now having a driving rain, we do need the water but a gentle rain would be nice. I didn't get the lawn mowed but I did manage to strip the border off the bedroom wall. I will paint it on Sat I hope.

Thank you for thoughts and prayers, they are much needed and welcomed. Tomorrow is  the cardiologist, then over to get an exray before the MRI We don't know when the MRI is yet but surgery is Oct 7th and we have to be in at the hospital at 6:30 am....so on the road very early.

I went and put feed out for the deer, momma has twins and I sure she will enjoy it as well as the young ones now.

Jane,I hope your feeling better and yes go to the Dr to see if he can help you.

Enjoy your evening.

I must have done something right in raising my kids.  #1 son arrived Monday afternoon for a short visit.  Monday night we were watching my steadily failing TV (I don't remember what was on).  The first thing yesterday morning (well, he did have breakfast first) I found him measuring the TV and the TV stand, following which he took off to go shopping - in spite of the fact I tried to discourage it.  He returned after an hour or so with a brand new 32" flat screen and proceeded to install it.

His excuse was that he liked to watch TV with me but couldn't stand it on the old set - claiming the new one was for his benefit.  Has the Lord blessed me with my children, or not!

Congratulations, Jeanne Lee, you raised a good son.  I like his way of thinking, too.

This must have been "Be Kind to Your Parents Weekend" as our 6 kids (with in-laws and out-laws) showed up and replaced our rotting back porch with a new one with a railing all around and down the steps.  While that was going on, the non carpenters were trimming hedges, mowing and weed eating.  Then they surprised us with an early birthday party.  Jims birthday is 9-11 and for the past 15 years we have celebrated that day by helping a group prepare lunch for our policemen, firemen and Emergency Room staff as a small "Thank you".

Bis, I no longer send snail cards anymore…only to those who don't have computers. Gary took over that little chore for me also and he encloses a check and greeting from me along with the ones that they send out. I think Dori does the cards, and Gary does the checks as he is on my account. I am doubly blessed by those two legged Angels.

Hal, Love does conquer all, even moving to France. My prayers go with her, for a very happy life. Thank you for explaining to this old lady.

Jenny, thank you for that special hug my dear one. It may cost you to play the slots, but it is an enjoyment to play them like nothing else. That whirring wheel can be addictive, but you are wise enough not let them rob you.

Janie Love, I am glad your work day has ended and you can be home and relaxed. You might give serious thought to the dangers in driving your car if this continues.I gave up my car when I had those mini TIA's, and was not sorry at all.

Jeanne Lee,Yes, the Lord has truly blessed you with that thoughtful son. I too have been so blessed so I know your feelings. I'm thankful for your good fortune, and mine too.

Andie, and Congratulations to you too…wow…a new deck and steps with railings too. Kind thought went into that job, as we need railings as time goes by.

I'm really slowed down..I forgot to tell you about the fall I took today. I spent too much time on the computer this morning and realized I had missed half of the program downstairs. A gentleman was telling us about the Quaker faith, and of course I wanted to hear him, so I rushed downstairs, out the door to the chapel and down I went on the cement. It does have a carpet out side the door, but no padding. I started to get up and one of the workers here took hold of my shouders and said, "NO, you lie down." He sat down beside me and insisted I stay there till the nurses arrived, which the did, within minutes. Our main disk is located on the other side of this entrance and I think she alerted half the staff. Two nurses must have run to assist. They too would not let me stand. They had me move my arms and legs and checked to see if my head was bleeding, fortunately not but the paramedics were called. In the meantime they realized I was lucid and not broken so with the help of the male worker and two nurses they insisted they would let me rise and sit in a chair. They took my blood pressure which was out of sight and pulse was racing......what else when a person falls for goodness sake. I said I did NOT want the paramedics, and I would NOT go to the hospital. House rules say paramedics shall be called. Four handsome young men appeared on the scene, all if uniform, spoke to me, got the vitals from the Nurses, said I did not have to go to the hospital, shook my hand, smiled and said goodbye. People eventually dispersed and the Nurses followed me safely home. I went back downstairs for lunch...I could never pass up fried chicken and it was scrumtious... then I came home, put on leisure clothing, and a nurse appeared to take my b.p. I laid me down on the bed and had a nice nap, till another nurse appeared to do the blood pressure thing again. She said she would be back later this evening for more checks. Whew...if anyone has to fall, I hope they are in a place like this. The last nurse that checked my out gave me a hug, and said I was loved. Wow.

Wow!  I'm sure glad God was watching over you today!  And i'm glad he sent that nice gentleman to make you stay still until you were checked.  My heart skipped a beat just reading about it!  Please be very careful!

Jane and Junee, thank you girls. I am still learning it seems. I must practice picking up my feet when I walk..not slouch and let feet shuffle, which seems to be habit as we age. I'm still feeling a bit "slow" tonight so a good nights sleep in on the docket and tomorrow is a new day. God is Good, and I am thankful.

Just had a nurse come it and do another blood pressure check. now I think it is time to shut off the computer and go read. Nurse said she would be back again about 9:30. I said, "if I am sleeping, just come in and help yourself to my arm." She said "thank you."

And so my wonderful friends, sleep peacefully, wake happy and thankful. We are so blessed.....all of us. June

Sleep well my friendsll

JUNEDRABEK....
...what a saga, being very precautious, guess its there responsibility that they have to cover themselves, they have been trained and prepared to act in this way,.... but what a great team you have in your new home....bravo to the care they gave you....
.....and yes I sure would be lucky and grateful if I was living in your home, as you remember the day I had my nasty fall at my old address and caught my head on the large terracotta flowerpot, when I fell sideways heavily on concrete, I called to R several times, each call getting louder, and with each call he heard, was purposely ignored as he stayed seated in his chair....Little did I realise that at the time, I was in the early throws of MS....
....I am happy and relieved to read, that your fall did not require another visit to a hospital bed....

....now tell me more bout those four handsome men....

Food For Thought

Keep Your Fork
(Author Unknown)

There was a woman who had been diagnosed with a terminal illness and had been given three months to live. So as she was getting her things "in order," she contacted her pastor and had him come to her house to discuss certain aspects of her final wishes. She told him which songs she wanted sung at the service, what scriptures she would like read and what outfit she wanted to be buried in. The woman also requested to be buried with her favorite Bible.

Everything was in order and the pastor was preparing to leave when the woman suddenly remembered something very important to her. "There's one more thing," she said excitedly. "What's that?" came the pastor's reply. "This is very important," the woman continued. "I want to be buried with a fork in my right hand."

The pastor stood looking at the woman, not knowing quite what to say. "That surprises you, doesn't it?" the woman asked. "Well, to be honest, I'm puzzled by the request," said the pastor.

The woman explained. "In all my years of attending church socials and potluck dinners, I always remember that when the dishes of the main course were being cleared, someone would inevitably lean over and say, 'Keep your fork.' It was my favorite part because I knew that something better was coming . . . like velvety chocolate cake or deep-dish apple pie. Something wonderful, and with substance! So, I just want people to see me in that casket with a fork in my hand and I want them to wonder 'What's with the fork?' Then I want you to tell them: 'Keep your fork . . . the best is yet to come.'"

The pastor's eyes welled up with tears of joy as he hugged the woman goodbye. He knew this would be one of the last times he would see her before her death. But he also knew that the woman had a better grasp of heaven than he did. She KNEW without a doubt that something better was coming.

At the funeral people were walking by the woman's casket and they saw the pretty dress she was wearing and her favorite Bible and the fork placed in her right hand. Over and over, the pastor heard the question, "What's with the fork?" And over and over he smiled.

During his message, the pastor told the people of the conversation he had with the woman shortly before she died. He also told them about the fork and about what it symbolized to her. The pastor told the people how he could not stop thinking about the fork and told them that they probably would not be able to stop thinking about it either.

He was right!

So the next time you reach down for your fork, let it remind you, oh so gently, that the best is yet to come!

"Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen." Hebrews 11:1

Thought of the Day

"I think about heaven a great deal, I think about the failures in my life in the past, but know that they have been covered by the blood of Christ, and that gives me a great sense of confidence...I have a certainty about eternity that is a wonderful thing, and I thank God for giving me that certainty. I do not fear death. I may fear a little bit about the process, but not death itself, because I think the moment that my spirit leaves this body, I will be in the presence of the Lord."

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Today it looks like a typical Fall morning in the Northeast out there.  It's so foggy that it's going to be difficult to see if you are driving.  But then it all burns off by 10:30 or so.  It think it's because it rained last night and the ground was so warm and the rain was cool that we have the fog today but it really does look like Fall out there.

I know she's probably gone by now but I'm praying for good results for Amy's husband today.

I have some on line shopping to take care of this morning and then I'll be peeling and chopping tomatoes for salsa to give to the family for Christmas.  I hope I can get that job done before I pick up TLH after school.  And I guess I better get started or I won't finish.

Joan, I've heard the fork story before and I always loved it but today I copied it to send to my doubting granddaughter.  I want her to know that I truly believe the best is yet to come.  I also want her to think about things that will help to sway her in the right direction.  Sometimes I think they teach too much science in college these days.  And since God is not allowed, they have no comparison to make.

I'm off to feed the doggies, get dressed and chop tomatoes, peppers, onions, cilantro etc.

Good morning, Amy.  You're probably on the road by now, but I am praying that all goes well for your husband.

Janie--Good morning.  I've heard the fork story before, too.  It's a good lesson for young and old, IMO.   Imagine you're about ready to start chop, chop, chop.

Good morning, Joan and all the early friends.

Joan, thanks for the good breakfast this morning.  I don't usually eat much for breakfast, but this sounded good this morning.  Even tho I don't eat a lot for breakfast at home, I especially like going out for breakfast.  I think I would rather go out for breakfast or brunch than for dinner.

Amy, good luck to your husband for all he has to good through today.

I especially liked all the "Chuckles" this morning.   I , too, have heard the "fork" story before.

Hope everyone will have a great day.

Hi everyone on a 73 degree morning with partly cloudy skies here in South Carolina.  This will be my typical Thursday morning with picking up my friend for coffee and taking him home and then back to the church for the Wisdom group.  Then this afternoon Pat will have her third chiropractic treatment for this week.  Initially she had scheduled it for tomorrow morning then realized she has a long standing appointment with her GP tomorrow morning.  I discovered when I went to take my morning medicine that the boxes were empty.  It seems like I just filled them for two weeks last week but I realize that time flies by.  So I had to put the medicine boxes together this morning.

Yesterday was another very busy day.  Scott and I did enjoy the dinner at church last night.  We had wings with different sauces, mac and cheese, a  nice green salad, dinner rolls and a piece of pound cake with fresh peaches on it with a little whipped cream.  He then came out and spent several hours with us.

Hal, your schedule next week sounds like ours has been this week.  Since Pat is not able to drive right now I have to take her to all of her appointments in addition to my own.

June, it is nice to see you are so satisfied with where you now reside and that you receive such wonderful care.  I am certainly happy to read you were not seriously hurt with your fall.  That is a frightening experience for all concerned.  Always better to be safe than sorry.  Here is an extra cyber hug from me.

Jenny, I skipped watching the live presentation about the new iPhone as am not in the market for one.  I have watched the Apple presentations for the last two or three years or more.  They really know how to create interest and hype a product.

JaneS, hope today finds that dizzy feeling gone.  It seems that God is being squeezed out of our schools and now homes.  It is sad.

Amy, your poor husband has really gone through the mill with medical problems.  I am sure glad you are there to be such a good support for him and to get him where he needs to be.

Andie, what a nice surprise your kids and inlaws and outlaws gave you and your husband.  What a wonderful way to remember 9/11 by serving others lunch that are there to serve us.  I bet your "thank you" is appreciated.

Junee, so many folks fight high blood pressure and I have just the opposite problem as mine is too low.  The cardiologist wants my lower number to be 65 or better and if it isn't there is one of the medicines I am not suppose to take.  She is also concerned about the amount of liquid I drink and has asked me to restrict it to between 32 and 64 ounces a day as I have stage 3 kidney disease.

Joan, those Business Signs are funny.  Your Food for Thought and your Thought of the Day is going to be what I use for the Devotional I will give at Sunday School this Sunday.  I have been looking at several different things but this one strikes a chord with me as I know the best is yet to come.  Thanks.

Lloyd, what great news and sure you won't miss that oxygen hose following you around.  Please pace yourself and don't overdo.

Good morning, Joy.  Like you, if I have my choice to meals to eat out, it's breakfast.

Lloyd--Good morning.  Glad to hear your doctor discontinued the oxygen and shots.  That sure means you're doing better.  Do take it easy if you go to the shop.

Good morning, Lloyd.  I fill my pill boxes for 2 weeks like you do and in no time it seems it is time to refill.  I am glad you can use some of the stuff I post in your devotionals at church.

Good morning everyone, still no sun here. Well yesterday after my CNA left I turned on the TV and laid on the couch watching and dossing all day. Talked to my daughter and had something to eat and went to bed. Don't think I will be going out for more than going to doctor visits anymore. Maybe if we had dry weather it might not have got to me so much. Oh well life goes on.

HAL  I am glad my grands all live here in the US. Of course I have not seen the 2 in California in years now. My grandson who works on my PC will be going to France this month for his job. Third time going there because of work.

JUNE  like you the US is where I was born and where I want to stay. I did go over the border into Canada twice and once over the border into Tijuana and was glad to cross the bridge back into San Diego.

JOAN  about now I would like to turn the heat on to dry the air in here. Of course the heat is turned off and will not be turned on for another month.

AMY  wow you feed the deer? My son has some hunting permissions for a few hunters to hunt deer on his property. Only those he knows will he give then to. They have done a lot of damage in his orchard some years. Used to be seeing one here was very unusual. This state had a 5day deer hunting season but with bow and arrows only.

JEANNE LEE  wonderful, now you can think of your sone every time you turn on that TV. My older son did not want me to bring my old floor model TV here so he bought me a bigger flat screen one as a house warming gift when I moved here. Don't know the size but a lot bigger than the old one.

JUNE  glad you did not get hurt when you fell. They sure take care of you when you fall there. If anyone falls here they have to call the rescue. No one here is allowed to get anyone up.

JOAN  a full breakfast is just what I need this morning. Business Signs had me chuckling.  Keep your fork, wonder if that would work with cremation. Like the Billy Graham quotes. Thank you for all today's goodies.

AMY  I wish you and your DH the best today. Prayers for both of you.

JANE  no fog here but on local news they showed the thick fog along the southern part of the state. That is all along the shoreline.

JOY  like you I enjoy going out for breakfast best.

LLOYD  listen to your doctor and take it easy, no big machines yet.

LARRY  will the doctor ever find the med you should not be taking?

Last Sunday I attended a Hindu wedding at which my nephew wed his beautiful bride. It was an absolute extravaganza. The highlight was when the bride was carried in on a litter in a costume as beautiful as she.
There were three meals that day, all Indian food, and before the final meal I was asked to say the blessing. I did so with trepidation, fearful that the interjection of a Christian rite into a an all-Hindu ceremony might cause some offense. I need not have worried because I was assured that my blessing was not only expected, but welcome as well. And so I proceeded, probably less than minute, and sat down. Imagine my surprise when people, mostly Hindu, approached me with the highest praise for my comments. One man claimed I was "sent by God." another proclaimed I was a "holy man." And so it went. The next morning in the hotel dining room the praises continued as folks approached me with words of commendation. And all I had done was say a simple grace before the meal. It was warm but humbling experience.

Good morning, Gloria.  You can't turn the heat on and off yourself?  I think somehow "the fork" could work with cremation.

Radioman--Good morning.  Thanks for sharing your participation in the Hindu wedding and your being asked to give a blessing.  For sure that would be humbling.

I've always said that breakfast is my favorite meal to eat out.

The salsa is cooking.  It has about a half hour to go and then I can can it.  The jars are sterilizing and I'm ready when the buzzer goes off.

Radioman, that's a good feeling when your efforts are recognized.  I'm happy for you.  I don't know if I told you that I did the Bible reading at my granddaughter's wedding in May.  It was a very traditional one but several people that I didn't know (most of them young people in Ali and Dan's generation stopped me to tell me that they loved it and than I did a very good job reading it.  I also wondered how it would be received because so many young people are not tuned in to Bible reading these days.

I have a half hour to wait for the salsa to finish cooking so I think I'll go grab some lunch while I wait.  Get back to whatever you were doing before I interrupted your day and make this one a good one.

Good Morning dear friends and may God Bless your day with all that you may need. Once again, it is now noon in Florida while I am having my second cup of coffee in Calif. And evening is coming for our friends in England. And yet we are connected by this thread of electronic equipment. What a Blessing !Thank you God.

I had another visit for a b.p. check before I fell asleep last night. A nurse woke my at 5 a.m. to ask if I was O.K., then another Nurse stuck his head in and hour later and announced he was here to take my blood pressure, which was very good.I tucked myself back under the sheet and decided to stay in bed . At 8 o'clock my good Nurse came in..they always knock, then slip a thingy into the key hole and enter. She is a love. Said she wanted me down today to change the bandage she put on left shoulder blade that got damaged slightly in my fall. Told me to stay in bed as long as I liked, and take more rest for her too.

And now I sit, eager to read your messages.

Hal, Believe me, I am going to slow down. I have always been fast moving, as my Mother was before me, and my coordination no longer keeps up with my get-up and go. I am going to train my self to step UP and OVER door ways, rather than trip over them. Our big sliding doors must have a ridge in the medal for the door to slide on, that was my nemisis yesterday. And I am going to train myself to march rather than drag my feet. Never too old to learn.

Jackie, I well remember the fall you took, and how it was disregarded. Where I lived before I had a friend…a former Marine…and Harry bought sharp sounding whistles and gave them to many of us to keep on our person, in case we needed help of any kind. People may not hear a voice call but those whistles make a sharp enough sound to be heard many feet away, and to keep blowing when help is needed is easier that shouting. Now here we wear a button that is silent to us, but loud in the nurses station,so there is no need of a whistle. I still have one attached to my cart though, as the life alert only works within the buildings.

Amy, I pray all goes well in your visit to the cardiologist…always hopeful it will be Good News.

Larry, I wish all of you had access to the living style i reside in now. It is SO reassuring to me and to my children. I cannot ask for more. And your cyber hug is very welcome. thank You.

Gloria, In the good old days Tijuana was nothing to fear. It was a fun place to go. There were vary poor people wandering the streets, and you felt when you bought something you were really helping the poor famiies that sold their wares on the sidewalks, plus the food was extra delicious and safe to eat. Now it is dangerous to cross the border.

Don, how encouraging to be able to share your faith at the Hindu Wedding, and how good of the people to praise your prayers. It must have been a great honor to have been invited to speak.

It is now going on 10 o'clock, so I am going to leave you all for the time being..will make the  bed, prepare the body for going out, and get down to the nurses station for a bandage change…no charge for this service. God is Good.

Good morning from a sunny day in the Interior! Farrah has had her back scratched, and her head knuckled along with a brisk game of catch that feather on a stick, so she is napping for now.

While our trees started turning yellow a day or two after Amy's, I awoke this morning to frost on the rooftops, so we are having an early winter this year. It is probably due to all the rain we've had. Normally we have our first snow somewhere around Halloween, but I don't believe that's likely this year.

June and Lloyd, please be careful! I know how easy it is for a moment, to lose your way and fall!

To those of you, enjoying the gift of beautiful, helpful children, you are truly blessed, both to have them and also to recognize what a good and loving parent you have been!

I hope everyone is enjoying their day, of either sunshine or rain!

JUNEDRABEK....
...many years ago I vaguely remember a neighbour friend giving me a whistle...that was because I left very early in the morning, and often dark, to an office cleaning job, and where I had to walk from at the side of my high rise flats was an underpass tunnel leading into another non through traffic lane, with factories as I passed by, one factory having friendly security guards who always looked out for my safety....but the underpass was known for a couple of nasty attacks on women....Somewhere along the line I have now mislaid her whistle but thankfully I never needed the urge for using it, just remembered it gave out one almighty loud pierce....Now you mention a safety whistle, I think that is a good Idea....Although not much use to me at the moment as I am going through another bad MS period, been lasting I guess a week now...just hoping it soon fizzles out as I haven't ventured outside my front door since I guess the day we took our Benji to the vets.....I can just about walk but my body is slouching and my leg nerves are twitching, I am having to sway - drag my right leg along as I go, while touching onto furniture and doors as I move around, etc....this all builds up during the day then eases itself by late of day - night...This is an illness - disease that can change in seconds, minutes, hours, it really is that unpredictable...Oh and not forgetting body stiffness from the waist down, that is a usual occurrence, and that I am now used to...

Janie--Kudos to you for doing such a fine job on the reading at
your granddaughter's wedding.

June--They sure are vigilant about giving good care where you live.

angelface--Glad we don't get frost on our roofs--a  harbinger of snow and cold weather coming.

Vanilla-Jackie--I enjoyed reading your whistle experience.

I am going to go see if I can find a few zzz's on the couch and take a little nap.

I have had my bandage changed, I am to come back for a b.p. check about supper time, had b.p. taken, temp, and weight. I have gained 1 lb. I guess the ensure is doing its job.

Had lunch at home today, as my leftovers need to be used, plus some of the stuff I ordered at Von's. I will be going down for choir  practice at 1:30..getting ready for our Christmas sing. Randy is such a good teacher. Patient, fun, and always a prayer before we start. At 2:30 we will go to our Mobile and Balance class, then it will be home and reading and rest and computer for the rest of the day. I will have yesterdays fried chicken left-overs, and some Von's potato salad for my supper. What a glorious life I am having. Thank you God.

Good Afternoon Everyone!

Had bible study and breakfast at church this morning.  I stopped off and got a dozen doughnuts and took in.  It was one of those mornings.  I just could not get started it seemed.  Came home and sit/lay down for awhile.  And about 3 got up from the couch and ask wife if she would like to go to the DQ for some icecream. She did.  And we both had a blizzard.  She is now laying down and I am on here reporting in and getting caught up.

Anyhow, I hear the couch calling me........

Back from the exercise and choir class. Choir is certainly going to require some work . Good thing we have nearly four months to beat ourselves into shape. Exercise just finished and I am ready to test out the bed and book. I could be home for the day but I have that date for a b.p. check  in a couple of hours, so I will stay dressed in my "walking" clothes.

Hal, now just what is a Blizzard that D.Q. makes ? I have never been to a Dairy Queen so I am behind the times. You will have to educate me.

Recliner is calling my name, so I shall grab a book and recline. See you all later.

I hope there are no blizzards around here very soon and if there are, I hope they all come from Dairy Queen.

I have 5 lovely pints of salsa ready to give for Christmas.  That makes a total of 12.  I think that's enough so that everyone can get one.

My nice neighbor across the street asked me if the young fellow who is supposed to trim my bushes charges me for his work.  When I said "yes", she said "Well don't pay him.  Steve and I will do it for you on Saturday."  And she wouldn't take "No thank you" for an answer.  She insisted that they would be over on Saturday and do it.  How did I get so lucky?

Dogs have been fed but I haven't.  I'm not really hungry.  I've been picking all day while I worked in the kitchen.  I added up everything I ate and I really shouldn't eat anything else.  Maybe I'll just cut up a tomato and put some salad dressing on it later.  The local tomatoes are sooooo good this year!

June, if you read this I want to pass on something about walking.  An maybe others will listen also.  When my BIL came out of the hospital following surgery, he was walking with the help of a walker and he began to shuffle and slide his feet.  My niece noticed it and said, "Dad, if you keep shuffling like that, you might start doing it all the time.  You should consciously think, HEEL AND TOE, HEEL AND TOE."  And I remembered this advice when I had my foot surgery and it kept me from shuffling.  Maybe you need to "heel and toe" when you walk and then things like doorsteps won't grab your feet.  Anyone think this is good advice?  It worked for me!

Guess I'll go turn on the TV and see what looks good....through my eyelids, I bet.  I'm kinda tired.

Janie, I'll bet that nice neighbor from across the street is going to be a recipient of that Christmas Salsa. Do you still make all the candies, you did before, or did you erase that from your list "to do" ? i will try the heel and toe, that would give me the necessary foot action. I will continue to do a slight march too, that makes me lift my foot up and over any obstacle. The more exercise of feet is always welcome. Another essential when using a walker is to stand straight, so many lean too far forward and that only gets more pronounced in time. We Seniors can't afford to retire….we have to stay conscious of many things.

I went down and had my B.P. checked. 157 over 65, pulse 62. Pretty much normal for me. I no sooner got home than the little knock came on my door. It was another nurse with a b.p. machine, here to take my pressure. I told her I just got home from having it done, that I was told this morning to come down for it, she looked surprised and said O.K., and I told her it was O.K. if she wanted to do it again. She smiled and said "No, you are so sweet". They sure keep trying hard to be good to us. And so very kind.

Now I am "in" for the rest of the day, I may take a short walk outside after it turns dark, that always is a pleasant time to breathe the night air, and makes bed even more welcome. time now to prepare my left over fried chicken breast, potato salad, chopped fresh fruit, and whatever else appeals to me. Life is good, and keeps getting better.

You are the most interesting people! I love coming here and reading about your daily lives....even the trials and tribulations you go through. Sorry I am not better about posting!

I am making a mental note of the advice from Jane and June about walking/shuffling. Right now neither my husband nor I have any of those problems but I know it could be in our future. He's 82 and I'm 78. When he had his back surgery he had to use a walker, so I can see how shuffling and leaning over could be a problem.

I do have a couple of experiences to share regarding walking while wearing glasses with bifocals (and not concentrating  ::) ) One time when we took our daughter to the airport, I went inside with her.  Hubby was circling the loop to come back to the disembarking area to pick me up. I stood at the curb watching for him and stepped down to get a better look. It was a high curb and I fell forward with force while trying to protect my camera (dumb!) and my face. A lot of embarrassment (I had a huge audience) to say nothing of the abrasions and bruises. The redcaps put me in a wheelchair and told me to stay put till he came!  :-[ Last  winter I did a similar thing on the stairs at my daughter's house.  Coming down the stairs I thought I was on the last step and lunged forward in the same way. (Would you believe I also had my camera in front of me?)  Moral of the story is that bifocals interfere with depth perception.

Lloyd - That is very good news about not needing the oxygen and shots anymore.

Larry - Another thing you and Chape have in common, kidney disease. I hope Pat shows more improvement soon.

Gloria - Glad to see you are back "in action".

Chape is watching NFL's first game of the season. Sunday his favorite, the Giants, will have their first game. I'm sure Jenny is watching tonight! Denver Broncos are playing.

Beverly, when I got my first bifocals (I was much younger...only 48) I almost fell down a flight of stairs because I just plain didn't see the edge.  I'm much more careful as I get older and at 81 and living alone, I'd prefer not to break anything on my body.  I've discovered that feeling with my foot is practical and I've not even come close to falling at stairs.

Now, I'm off to Dreamland.  May you all have a peaceful night's rest and wake to a hopeful new day.  May God bless us, every one!

June, a Blizzard is like a super thick malt, as you know DQ uses soft ice cream, well they fill a cup almost completely up with the ice cream and put in what you want in the Blizzard, in my case I had cherries, wife had pumpkin.  And a splash of milk and put it under a blender and serve.  I had a medium and it filled me up.

Joanie, it more or less was my supper and my wife also.  I did go in and make myself a pimento cheese/with Jalapeno's on toast for a snack about 8.  I have meds I have to take with food.

I have to remember the heel/toe routine.  Seems I catch every throw run going.

Bed time.  Nite, nite, God Bless and Sweet dreams.

Jane - Glad you did not fall down those stairs! Bifocals are a blessing but can also be a hazard.

Hal - No Blizzards but did have some delicious Edy's Caramel Delight ice cream!

Good evening EVERYFRIEND.

YES, you are so right, BEVERLY, I was indeed watching my Broncos.  Wanted to see how our new QB would do and happily he did wonderful.

We bought tickets this morning to attend the US Air Force Academy Football game this coming Saturday.  Our little Granddaughter Kate will be cheerleading with the Falcon Cheerleaders.  Well, one knows you have to have spirit, so we drove down to Colorado Springs to a Sam's Club and bought us both a shirt!  It was a beautiful day and our drive was so enjoyable....and successful!

JUNE, I sure did not like reading about your fall, but how impressive the way the folks responded tyour needs....and that they continued to watch over you.

AMY, hope all went well for DH today.

Good morning, JACKIE.  I hope your day goes well.

I am shot after this FULL day and then the game, so I must say goodnight...Sleep tight, and you know the rest.

JANE S.....re, your coment of.....

" June, if you read this I want to pass on something about walking. It worked for me!...."

It wont be any use for people like me with Multiple Sclerosis, or people who suffer with Parkinson's Disease....as I often shuffle and suffer foot drop, for me, heel, toe, is NOT an option...

( Foot drop )

Foot drop, or dropped foot, is a symptom of multiple sclerosis caused by weakness in the ankle or disruption in the nerve pathway between the legs and the brain. This disruption means it is difficult to lift the front of the foot to the correct angle during walking, so it hangs down and may catch or drag along the ground and can cause trips and falls.

Foot drop can be successfully managed with some lifestyle modifications and treatments. Functional electrical stimulation (FES) uses small electrical charges to stimulate the foot into a more natural position for walking, or an ankle support (orthotic) can be used to hold the foot in a rigid position.

( What is foot drop? )

Foot drop is where it is difficult to lift the front part of your foot and toes. If you are experiencing foot drop your foot may hang down, drag or catch on the ground when you are walking. This can make it more difficult to manage stairs, curbs and uneven surfaces, and make you more vulnerable to tripping and falling. To compensate you might alter the way you walk to make sure you clear any obstacles. Most commonly this is done by lifting your leg higher, as if you were always climbing stairs, but this way of walking requires more effort and uses more energy. Your legs may tire quickly and you might feel wobbly. In time, this can lead to further problems such as pain in the hips or lower back, a tightening of muscles and poor balance.

( What causes foot drop? )

In MS, foot drop is caused by weakness in the ankle or disruption in the nerve pathway to and from the brain, rather than in the nerves within the leg muscles. This results in poor coordination in the leg and ankle affecting the way you walk.

If the coordination between the nerve messages and leg and ankle muscles is out of sync, the foot cannot be lifted to the correct angle at the right point when taking a step, so that the toes drag or catch along the floor or you slap your foot down.

Other MS symptoms can make foot drop worse. Numbness or other altered sensations in your feet may make it difficult to feel the floor. Muscle weakness or spasms in the leg muscles can make it more difficult to control your leg and a dropped foot.

CHUCKLES

The Old Junker

His beloved old white convertible was in deplorable shape, but he refused to get rid of it. So when the old junker was stolen from his office parking lot, his family was delighted. Nonetheless, they called the police and filed an insurance claim.

Their relief was short-lived, within an hour an officer was on the phone. "We found the car less than a mile away," he said, trying to restrain himself. "It had a note on it that read, 'Thanks anyway, we'd rather walk.'"

Food For Thought

Playing God
(By Alan Smith)

We sometimes refer to someone's actions as "playing God." By that, we usually mean that they are standing in judgment over another person in a way that only God can, or that they are making a decision regarding who will live or who will die. Most of the time, we use that term in a negative way. I heard a story recently, though, told by Mee Spousler that sheds a whole new light on the term "playing God."

Mee tells how she was trying to put her three-year-old son to bed for a nap. When she was unsuccessful, she put him in her bed and laid down with him to encourage him to rest. She fell asleep, but he didn't. When she woke up, she saw him sitting on a chair at the end of the bed, and asked, "Luke, what are you doing?"

"I'm playing God," he replied.

"Playing God?" she asked.

"Yes," he said. "I'm watching over you while you sleep."

What a beautiful thought, because that is what God does. David wrote: "I cried to the Lord with my voice, and He heard me from His holy hill. I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the Lord sustained me." (Psalm 3:4-5)

Wouldn't it be great if we could all, like that 3-year-old boy, learn to "play God" in ways that would impact this world for good?

We need to "play God" by looking at the hearts of people rather than the clothes they are wearing.

We need to "play God" by forgiving those who have offended us.

We need to "play God" by refusing to allow race or the color of a person's skin to create barriers.

We need to "play God" by being patient, kind, and loving to the the people we deal with throughout the day

We need to "play God" by showing compassion to those who are suffering or in need.

We need to "play God" by keeping our promises and living lives of honesty and integrity.

We need to "play God" by living in such a way that we reflect the nature of our Heavenly Father.

I hope and pray that people around you will see you "playing God" this day.

Have a great day!

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It rained a soft gentle rain most of the night and will continue through most of the day today.  It's exactly the kind of rain we need.

Jackie, I guess my advice wasn't what you wanted to hear and I'm sorry that it won't work for you but so many seniors just don't think about picking up and putting down their feet when they ARE able to do it if they think about it.  I don't want to be one of those.  If something develops that I'm unable to follow my own advice, I will accept God's will as you must do in your situation.  I know you are doing the best you can and I applaud you for your efforts.

I'll be off to WM to greet my public soon.  I hope Everyfriend has a lovely day filled with the love of God and friends.  I

I agree with Beverly,  I love coming here and reading about all of my friends and what they are doing.

It has been a couple of rough days but doing better today.  On Wednesday the news from the cardiologist was not what I want to hear but it is what it is  and I'll deal with it.  Apparently I have joined the AFib club.  He started me on a blood thinner and since this was my first experience with that kind of med. I didn't really know what to expect.  After stopping at the drug store to pick up the first 1 month supply and nearly passing out from sticker shock, I came home.  Talked to my younger son in VA to fill him in and get all of their news and then began feeling pretty sick.  I didn't know if I was having a reaction or not.  Spent a pretty miserable, and a little scary night, with pain and no sleep.  I called the dr's. office early next morning to ask if I might be having a reaction and should I stop taking the med.  Of course, my call went to voice mail and I never heard back.  I finally decided that instead of a reaction I might have picked up a nasty stomach bug so continued with the meds. since once started, he emphasized, I must not stop!  Yesterday and last evening was pretty uncomfortable but finally was able to get some sleep.  I woke up feeling much better but still pretty weak and shaky so will be taking it easy today.

Some of you have much more serious health problems to deal with so I'm trying not to obsess about my own.  All in all, I am luckier than many of you.

We are in danger of running out of food so I will make a list for David to get a few things that we are running low on.  In a few days I think I'll feel like going to the grocery store again and re-stocking pantry and fridge.

I hope it will be a good day for all of you.  NO MORE FALLING, JUNE!  That's an order!  Also, I'm one who is guilty of leaning over the Rollator too much and shuffling my feet.  Straighten up and do right, Phyllis!  My prayers for all of you and your challenges and special prayers to Amy and her DH.

Good morning, Phyllis.  I really didn't want you to join our a-fib club.  I know we all react differently to meds and probably some of it depends on what other meds we have to take.  I am sorry you've felt so sick.  Rest and rely on David to get the groceries.

LLOYD HAMMOND....
.....be very careful you dont give yourself chilblains when warming your hands...something years ago my late father always instilled in me when I would come home and place my cold hands in front of our blaring coal fire, ahh, yes, I can still picture my late mother turning in the opposite direction and lifting up her skirt to warm her backside....No central heating in our home, we solely had to rely on lighting one coal fire to warm up the whole house....and boy, did my father make a blaring hot fire with wood logs or sticks, newspaper and coal, never used coke...

PHYLLIS....
...sorry to hear you had a reaction to your new prescription meds, ( or a stomach bug.)....I guess that is one thing that puts me off, the once you start taking it, you cant just stop, but have to slowly wean yourself off....

JANE S....
...thank you, yes I truly wish my illness was that simple to follow your advise, but sadly it is not...there are many like me, all in the same boat....

AMY....
...guess my words won't be much comfort but...that long road ahead, does and will get shorter...

JOAN.....
....oh how true...." Sometimes you will never know the value of something until it becomes a memory..."

Lately I have been having many negative thoughts that everything that means anything or everything to me, is slowly being taken away, bit by bit....ie, my ability to walk and my dogs...to name just two...I think we have to think of what we have left....

Phyllis, I also have A-fib.  My blood thinner is Eliquis, which I am told is the safest of the blood thinners and my dose - two a day - is the lowest dose prescribed.  I recently had two bouts of nose bleeds which I blame on the blood thinner, but apparently there is nothing I can do about it.  I also have been told that I must not discontinue taking the Eliquis.  I really am getting along OK but I think my doctor should have recognized signs earlier than he did.  I may have had it a few years before it was diagnosed.  Nothing I can do about it now.

So, welcome to the club!

Talking of things being taken away from me....One thing I still have left is my brain savvy and brain functioning, yes even MS hasn't affected my brain as yet but....this morning has left me wondering as, recently a couple of weeks ago, I truly believed my eyesight had gotten worse almost overnight, yes another MS trait but...I was ready to dispose of the old pair of reading glasses that had been ok for the computer, whereas my most recent pair weren't, but better for reading books etc....But recently I found my eyesight to be one big blur and I could not see anything written on my screen so I swapped those glasses for my recent ones and have been using them but...this morning I picked up from our coffee table my long distance and tv glasses to read some small writing on the tv screen and...low and behold I couldn't see it, it was all a blur, then....the penny dropped, I had a eureka moment... that somewhere along the line I had accidentally swapped the glasses over, placed them inside the wrong case...So now I have put back the pair that were on the kitchen top ready to be thrown out, and just in the nick of time.....they are now safely back on my eyes as I type...and I can see every word clearly....Oh and the others are now nicely back on the coffee table, and I can now see the tv screen words clearly....

Hi everyone on a beautiful sunny morning here in South Carolina.  It was hot here yesterday and will be again today.  Yesterday was busy as left the house about 9:40 and didn't get home until around 2 pm.  I rested for a couple of hours and then took Pat for the last chiropractic treatment this week.  She suggested we eat an early dinner out.  Needless to say I didn't raise any objection.  We went to Pizza Hut and had a good meal.  Pat was able to have a nice salad and then they had a pizza special where you got two medium size pizzas for $12.99.  We each got one and hers had a lot of meat on it, which she ate with the cheese and just left the crust.  We then had a quiet evening watching television.  Today's schedule has only the mid-morning doctor's appointment for Pat, which is about a 30 minute drive from where we live.  She did seem to be a bit better yesterday with both her back and eyes so am hopeful that each day will see a little improvement.

Gloria, how long will your grandson be in France?  My doctor's office is supposedly working on getting the Entresto approved for me but haven't heard anything yet.

Don, what an interesting experience and one most of us probably would never have the occasion to experience.

Joan, I agree with you that "The Fork" message would work with cremation since non of us leave this earth with our physical body.

JaneS, maybe your Bible reading was the first time some of the young folks had every heard the Bible read.  It sounds like you have really nice neighbors who want to help you out with your outside work.

June, you have a wonderful attitude toward learning new habits such as picking your feet up rather than sliding them.  I also used to walk very quickly but not anymore and my steps are much shorter.  Good idea to keep your whistle at hand when outside your buildings.  I hope we are several years away from needing to go to the type of facility in which you live but some days I think the time may be nearer rather than further away.  We will just continue to take things one day at a time.  I thought everyone had been to a Dairy Queen.  When Pat and I were dating we would often go to the Dairy Queen for an ice cream cone after classes as I waited for my Mother to get off work to go home.

Jackie, hope that MS attack will soon ease for you.

Hal, I love the DQ Blizzards.  They are a real treat.  I usually get the one with the toffee in it. It is interesting how they turn the cup totally upside down and the Blizzard stays in the cup.  We have removed all of the throw rugs in our house except those surrounding the stool in the bathrooms.  I do have a rug under my desk and office chair in my office but it has a nice beveled edge and have never caught my foot on it.

Hope all have a good day.  Time to hit the road.

Beverly, I understand the depth perception issue with glasses.  It seems I am always catching the edge of the cabinet with dishes and having other depth perception issues.  I passed on watching the NFL game last night but checked and Carolina lost.  That is the team I will now follow along with the Atlanta Falcons.  I agree with Jenny is probably very happy the Bronco's won.

Mary Ann, I appreciate the welcome (even if membership wasn't something I was wanting) but I can rely on you to answer any questions that I might think of about things.  Eliquis is what the doctor prescribed for me, too, and at the same dosage.  I hope I don't develop any bleeding problems but if I do, then I'll deal with them.  The card. doctor warned me that I might and to be very careful about walking and not falling.  So now, I use the Rollator all the time...inside and outside the house.  I don't really blame my primary doctor because she always listened when I said I felt something just wasn't right with the way my heart was acting.  She listened to it carefully and even gave me two EKGs in the office but nothing showed.  Finally, it was at her suggestion that I wear a heart monitor "just to be sure" and that is where a problem showed even though it indicated SVT.  That was enough for her to send me to the cardiologist and he is the doctor that diagnosed AFib instead.  I'm just grateful to be receiving the attention to the problem and the meds to help control it.

LARRY HANNA
.... thank you, yes, so far so good and its now 3.30pm...not gone away but calmer than of the last few days - week...but not calm enough to go out and about with trusting my body and legs....A shame as I promised to take our Benji back to Lodmoor Country Park while he is still with us but, of course a lot also depends on my MS and its reactions....just that Benjis days are numbered and are slipping away, one by one....but if I cant do it, I cant do it.....I have made him that promise and God willing, I shall stick to it......just not today, not sure tomorrow, maybe the next day or the next day...I just have to see when I shall be up to it, as I want to enjoy it as much as he does.....Especially now our weather days are a lot cooler...

Larry, have you thought of doing pasta and tinned tuna, with some chopped tomato, I find that is very quick and also very filling, I will always add a small dollop of butter...I tend to use Fusilli, the thick corkscrew type....Would your Pat enjoy that?

Vanilla-Jackie--Good you got you glasses figured out.  I hope you'll soon feel well enough to take Benji to the park.

Mary Ann--I take Toprol twice a day.  I've taken it for four years with no problem.

Good morning, Larry. It's nice that you and Pat can get out for a meal occasionally.  Would you believe I have never had a DQ Blizzard?  Wonder if they have lactose free ones?

Phyllis--It sounds as if your doctors are now on top of things--and that's a GOOD thing.

Good morning everyone. I will be happy when this damp humid weather is gone. Enough said.

DON  looks like you said the right words before the meal. You are a smart man and knew what to say. A simple Grace to you did the right thing.

JOAN  heat comes with the apartments so is turned on and off in fall and spring. We have thermostats and can set them where we want, management “would appreciate it if we kept it at 68°”  When we had the blizzard was the only time I turned mine up to 75.

JUNE  my daughter sent me a whistle  for the same reason your friend gave you one. It was almost 30 years ago when we went to Tijuana. Living so close to the border all his life my son in law has only been there 2 times. I have been drinking Ensure for several years but I am still losing weight.

HAL have not seen a DQ around here in years. Used to love their blueberry sundaes.

JANE  hope there are no blizzards this coming winter. Home canned salsa will be a wonderful gift. You have wonderful neighbors. All doorways here have a metal strip and are hard for the rollators to get over. Have to pick the first wheels over them so have to pick feet up, too. Glad I have not got to the shuffle walk.

JUNE  holding the walker close helps keep the back straight. I know when I go out to walk I start good but by the time I get back I an leaning my right arm on the handle because my back is acting up.

BEVERLY  it is great having the PC back and being back again. I have worn bifocals for half my life and never had trouble with depth perception.

HAL  get rid of the throw rugs. They have been the cause of many bad falls.

LLOYD  see God wants you to take it easy a bit longer, that is why he sent the rain.

JOAN  that frittata will be a welcome change this morning. That old Clunker was so bad even the crooks didn't want it. Thank you for all today's goodies.

AMY  already in the 80's here. Will be another AC and fan day.

PHYLLIS  I get fed up with my doctor for never replying to a call from me. Wonder if it is him or the staff that never tell him I called.

JACKIE  we all have had things we could do taken away from us. Does no good to complain about it, we all have our problems.

LARRY he will be in France a week. With the world so unsettled these days I worry. My son is like me, a worrier too.

GLORIA...." JACKIE  we all have had things we could do taken away from us. Does no good to complain about it, we all have our problems...."
...... thank you for that harsh and cold remark, you have really helped, not a way I would talk to any friend on here, after five years I have more respect for them....yes guess this is not the place to show my depression....my MS forum is the place to be if I want perking up....they are very understanding...So much for five years of loyalty.... guess its ok if we all keep our problems to ourself...

Gloria--It's humid here most of the time.  Usually from Dec. to March we get some days that are not so humid.  I'd be too cold if I put my heat, when needed, on 68°.  When I have to switch to heat, I set it at 73°.  I've had the same experience with Ensure--no weight gain.

Vanilla-Jackie--Perhaps you could take medicine for your depression.

Phyllis, I did not notice any heart reaction when I think I first had A-fib (although I didn't know it by name); I would have a strange headache at the front of my head.  I called it a "halo headache".  I was using a wrist monitor and would take my blood pressure each time (I took it daily, but this usually happened in the early morning hours) and my BP would be higher than usual and my pulse rate would be very much higher.  I'd go to the doctor the next day and of course, everything was back to normal.  He'd get after me because I was using a wrist monitor, saying they were inaccurate.  He did not pay attention to the fact the pulse rate was much higher than normal.  At times it would be over 100.  This went on for two or three years at least.  In March of 2012 I was in Florida, visiting Norm and Dot, and on the day I was to fly home, I had an attack.  I flew home OK but that particular time marked the first time things did not return to normal.  Again, my doctor pooh-poohed my results because of the wrist monitor.  Incidentally, I had and have a cuff monitor but I could not get it on my arm properly so don't use it.  Tom was not living with me at the time.  In January 2013, I had several days where the readings were higher than they had been, so went to the doctor.  He told me my pulse (heart) rate was so fast he could not count it and that is when he sent me to a cardiologist at the Heart Center connected with our hospitals.

The cardiologist put me on Eliquis, saying I could no longer take aspirin but could take Tylenol if I needed it.  I have not heard from the cardiologist yet, but I think I am to see him this month.  I'm leaving for Indianapolis next week for a few days but we can fit it in.

Joan, I have taken Toprol for probably 10-15 years and the cardiologist put me on two a day.  I also take a diuretic.  I am not happy with how things have gone in my so-called "Golden Years", although when I read about others' troubles, I am in good health!  I really can't complain.  I can still walk without a walker; I don't have the stumbling or shuffling, but sometimes I think I walk like a drunken sailor!  I can walk across the parking lot, then across the street to the mail box but I don't walk much further.  But, then, I'm 92 and I can't expect my health of 50 years.

More than anyone wants to know!

Jackie, I don't think Gloria meant her remark to be harsh and uncaring.  Just stating an opinion.  We all hope for the best for everyone but we all, me included, have problems which restrict us in lots of ways. Babe, we love you so don't take things said as offensive.

By the way you talking about eye problems and MS, sometimes MS can cause loss of sight.  But it normally returns.  Don't you see an eye doctor?  If not I would talk to your other doctors about the problem.

Well, they discharged me from my physical therapy this morning with a stern lecture on continuing my exercises at home or else.  The else being I will be back in the same shape I was in, not that I am in that great of shape now, just more leg strength, but I see the neurosurgeon next week and she wants to see what he says.  She also mentioned vitamin B-12.  Does anyone here take B-12 to increase your energy level?

When I was having a problem with losing weight (mostly from not eating enough calories) I used Ensure Plus. I still drink it on mornings I have to leave early and haven't had much breakfast. It has 350 calories and 13 grams of protein. I have grown to love the taste so it's kind of a treat for me.

Jenny - I saw the photos of Kate with the cheerleaders on FB. So cute! What fun it will be to watch that game!

Phyllis - Sorry about the report from your cardiologist, but it's good that you found out and can take meds for it. Hope the sick feeling was just a stomach bug and wasn't related to the meds.

Gloria - 68 would be a little too cold for me in winter!

Mary Ann - I can understand your feelings about the doctor not recognizing a problem sooner. I have always had a fast heart rate but a few years ago it went haywire. Felt like my heart was beating outside my chest. My pulse was 200 and blood pressure very high. It only lasted for a few minutes. I learned to recognize what was happening and the cardiologist gave me hints on how to slow it down. As long as I take metaprolol it doesn't happen. Considering your age, I think you do remarkably well! As I used to tell Gladys, I want to be like you when I grow up!  ;)

Jackie - I hope you'll get well enough to take Benji on the promised walk but I'm sure that he is happy just being with you.

I've worn bifocals since I was in my 40s. My vision is complicated now by macular degeneration. Fortunately it has progressed slowly.

Hal - I have taken B-12 and it does help. You do need to have a blood test as I found I was taking too much!

Joan - It's another hot day so hope you are staying inside. We should be getting some better weather in about a month. When it cools down there's no better place (IMO) than Florida!

Good morning from the Interior. We had another frosty morning and a high of 59 so late autumn is here before we experienced early fall!

When we had Dairy Queens here, I used to love a lime dilly bar. Those bars were so good!

I had company today, and Farrah actually stayed out with us, sniffed their shoes and canes and then went to get her green felt mouse and played with it! I guess we can say she's become an average cat!

I'm leaving soon to get a cut and color, back to red again, so will have to post a photo before the gray comes creeping back!

Everyone have a great day!

Hal, I don't take B-12 itself, but I have taken B-Complex for 40-50 years.  I learned that we don't store B vitamins but need to take it daily.  I feel taking the B-Complex keeps me on an even keel and I don't get overly tired.  I never have had boundless energy, but I just keep going like the "energy bunny".

I have wondered since you mention your therapy - one thing you had to do was be able to get up from a chair without support of chair arms.  How are you doing with that?  I find I usually need help, but if I have my laptop in my hands, I can get up OK.  Crazy!  Must be I need some balance.

Mary Ann--You have a good approach to life.

halkel--Guess if you want to maintain your improvement, you WILL do PT at home.

Beverly--I drink 2 bottles of Ensure Plus each day and still don't gain weight.  I sure do hoped we get cooler weather in a month.

angelface--Farrah has really become social.

Mary Ann, they sit me in a straight back chair, with no arms, and the PT holds his hands out, palm up, and I placed my hands above his hands and then raise myself to an upright position, had to do it ten times, actually did it about nine and half times.... :D  I didn't touch his hands, they were there for support only if I needed it.

Hal.  I have been having B-12 injections for some time now. As much as I hate, injections have continued because
I believe it helped my strength in getting around. Guess when you are 94 I cannot expect to be able to run, but I do expect to be able to move about with walker.
I am so fortunate that my daughter is able to give me these at home as she is a retired nurse.
I also take Iron Max tabs, recommended by Dr.
Like Mary Ann I cannot get out of a chair  like that.

Hal, the blizzard sounds like something I would really enjoy. When I worked at a Cafe when in high school, the waitress made the ice cream choices as ordered, the chocolate malts is made had malt powder in them and the ice cream was very rich with cream..Mn. had a lot of dairies. And we used just a dab of milk, just enough to make the ice-cream go to a thick liquid. Oh……..SO GOOD.

Jenny, our good people here are still taking care of my needs. I go down each day for a new bandage on my shoulder blade, and b.p. check twice a day. Someone got their hours screwed up though and I was wakened at two a.m. for a check, then could not fall back to sleep, so I had a wonderful nap this afternoon.

Jackie, I well recall when I was in school, we were taught at a young age to do the "heel to toe" style of walking. Thank you so much for the reminder. I am practicing it now and find that it sure does cramp up some muscles in my lower leg, so I will continue doing it till I get used to it and have no cramps. Thanks again ! You have surely helped quite a few of get back to a proper style of walking.

Lloyd, I am SO glad to read that you are finally taking care of yourself and getting the needed rest and healing. I pray you will continue that resting, it is truly the best way for your poor body to heal is to give it time in rest in order to do the proper job.

Bis, I just love the comment of the little boy "playing God". I wish all of us would allow ourselves to be that innocent again. Then we could truly love our neighbor as we should love ourselves , as we are told to do, by God Himself.

Phyllis, I'll have to admit that my fall was my own fault. I was late for a program and was rushing too fast, plus dragging my feet. I keep telling myself, "we are never too old to learn" so I pray I can obey your loving order. I am sorry you are having Afib, my youngest son is diagnosed with that also. He did submit to and electric shock treatment that made the heart go back to a more normal rhythm , He still has to take metoprolol to assist the heart. But it works pretty well. Acts up now and again, but lightly.

Jackie, You have the right idea my friend. when we are stuck with a problem that limits what we can do, we have to be grateful and thank God for what we CAN still do. I am sending you a prayer to "stay strong" in your good attitude, and be thankful.

Hal, I agree with how you evaluated Gloria's message to Jackie. I know Gloria would never be intentionally unkind. It is just that the written word can be read differently by different individuals, I know in the past I have hurt the feeling of others, but it wasn't intended. I have never taken B-12, but I have taken vitamins that contained a certain amount of B-12, and i have know others that have if prescribed medically and it worked well for them. I hope it works for you, and DO keep doing your physical therapy. There are so many ways we can help ourselves to better health, don't lose out on what you have been taught.

Beverly, Gary bought me two cases of Vanilla original Ensure, and I feel it truly is helping me. I still tire by the end of the day, but I have picked up in energy and attitude. I know I felt like I was going down hill a bit for a while there. Better already.

Mary Ann, In our Balance and Exercise class we are given the exercise of rising from our chair unassisted with hand holds. Several of our ladies can easily do it. I cannot. I need to balance on the chair arms. I think most of us females are heavier in the hip and rear area as I find too that if i rise holding something with a little weight, I can rise easily, or if I am sitting on a higher surface, like my bed, there is no need of using my hands. I call that heavier area my "ballast".

Time to have my second b.p. reading, then some supper at home and perhaps a program at 6;30. We'll see how it goes time-wise.

June, when I was first diagnosed with A-fib, the cardiologist had me have a cardioversion - the shock treatment - and it worked for one or two days.  Then I could tell my heart beat was back to the uneven rhythm.

Most of the time I'm sitting on upholstered chairs and I think those are harder to get out of with no help from the chair arms.  When I get up from a dining room chair, I usually have a plate or two in my hands and that helps my balance.

Mary Ann, the first cardio versiion Gary had did not work so when he came to he allowed them to do a second time, and it did work. He has been relatively free of the fibrillation now for going on a year, so he was happy he had it repeated, even tho he gets the fibs now and then. He said he would not go through that procedure again.

I am going to toddle off to bed now. I am tired and tomorrow is a new day that I intend to be thankful for. Have a peaceful night dear hearts and a happy tomorrow. I close with Prayers, Love and Hugs. June

CHUCKLES

Aunt Emma

A couple's happy married life almost went on the rocks because of the presence in the household of old Aunt Emma.

For seventeen long years she lived with them, always crotchety, always demanding.

Eventually, the old girl passed away.

On the way back from the cemetery, the husband confessed to his wife, "Darling, if I didn't love you so much, I don't think I would have put up with having your Aunt Emma in the house all those years."

His wife looked at him aghast.

"My Aunt Emma!" she cried. "I thought she was 'your' Aunt Emma!"

Food For Thought

Others May, You Cannot!
(By G. D. Watson 1845-1924)

If God has called you to be really like Jesus, He will draw you into a life of crucifixion and humility, and put upon you such demands of obedience, that you will not be able to follow other people, or measure yourself by other Christians, and in many ways He will seem to let other people do things which He will not let you do.

Other Christians and ministers who seem very religious and useful, may push themselves, pull wires, and work schemes to carry out their plans, but you cannot do it, and if you attempt it, you will meet with such failure and rebuke from the Lord as to make you sorely penitent.

Others may boast of themselves, of their work, of their successes, of their writings, but the Holy Spirit will not allow you to do any such thing, and if you begin it, He will lead you into some deep mortification that will make you despise yourself and all your good works.

The Lord may let others be honored and put forward, and keep you hidden in obscurity, because He wants to produce some choice, fragrant fruit for His coming glory, which can only be produced in the shade. He may let others be great, but keep you small. He may let others do a work for Him and get the credit for it, but he will make you work and toil on without knowing how much you are doing; and then to make your work more precious, he may let others get credit for the work which you have done, and thus make your future reward ten times greater.

The Holy Spirit will put a strict watch over you, with a jealous love, and will rebuke you for little words and feelings or for wasting your time, which other Christians never feel distressed over. So make up your mind that God in His infinite sovereignty, has a right to do as He pleases with His own. He may not explain to you a thousand things which puzzle your reason in His dealings with you, but if you absolutely will yourself to be his love slave, He will wrap you up in a jealous love, and bestow upon you many blessings which come only to those who are in the inner circle.

Settle it forever, then, that you are to deal directly with the Holy Spirit, and that he must have the right to tie your tongue, or chain your hand, or close your eyes, in ways that He does not seem to use with others. Now, when you are so possessed with the living God that you are, in your secret heart, pleased and delighted over this peculiar, personal, private, jealous guardianship and management of the Holy Spirit over your life, you will know that you truly are on the road to being like Jesus.

Good morning to you  and friends.

How nice to go to a quilt show and was interested that you bought some material of covered bridges.  We do not have coveted bridges in Australia so was keen to see them when visiting.  All so different and bet they all have stories to tell.

Good morning.  Joan and all who follow.

Joan, thank you for the cherry strudel this morning. I am happy it is a "cyber" strudel, as I  am off for blood work and can't have any
"real" breakfast until afterwards.  My son is taking me and hopefully, he won't be in too much of a hurry to get back. There is a new Dollar Store opened in the shopping center near me, and I am hoping to get there.  At least to take a few minutes to look around and pick up a few things.  I can get in and out pretty quick.

We are still having temperatures in the low 90's for a couple more days and then really going down into the high 70's.

As I have mentioned before, I do not mind the heat.  I am just not looking forward to those chillier days and what will follow later.

It is a pretty sunny morning here in Central Maryland this morning.

Hope all the friends will have a great Saturday.

Jackie,  I certainly don't think that Gloria meant to sound "harsh" with her comment.   I am sure she just meant it as a general comment.  Almost everyday when I ask someone how they are,  I get that same comment " no sense complaining.... can't do anything about it".  Most of us can't do things we did a while back and true,  complaining isn't going to change things.

I think that most of us here are very compassionate friends and wouldn't say anything that they thought would be hurtful.

Good morning, Joy.  Labs here aren't open on Saturday.  Good that your are so your son can take you.  I bought many things--especially cards, gift bags, wrapping paper, package adornments etc. at the Dollar Store when we lived in Arkansas.  Their prices are a fraction of what like items cost in the Hallmark store or even a drug store.  Here the closest one is about 20 miles, so I don't go very often.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I didn't post much yesterday because I really didn't have anything to add to the discussion.  I sympathize with everyone who is coping with ongoing health issues and I thank God every day for my own health.  I hope you all are finding a measure of comfort from your coping and that it is helping you to deal with the problems.  I care deeply for my friends in S&F and I'd be lost without this contact.

I've heard some geese flying over several times but this morning when I was in the yard with the doggies I actually SAW not one, not two but 3 vees of them flying right over my house.  I'm sure I said before that I am on a direct flight path from the river to a man made pond where they often spend the night and feed in a farmer's fields.  During this time of year, there are geese on the pond almost every time I pass.  Once I walked over that way and I tried to count them and when I got to 150 I gave up.  The pond was almost solid with them just sitting there making night noises.

I'm going to finish the tomatoes today.  I'm making sauce for cooking use and since it has to reduced to less than half, it will be cooking for a good chunk of the day.  Then it will have to be canned.  I'm not sure what I'll be doing while it's cooking but I'm sure I can find something to get into.

Amy, congratulations on your "find" at the quilt show.

Good Morning, Joy.  So glad you are checking in regularly.

Everyfriend, have a lovely day!

You are all such nice and wise people.  I enjoy reading your posts so much and would really miss coming here everyday.

Thanks to all of you who share this AFib problem.  Your stories encourage me...and calm me.  The last thing I want to do is obsess about this because it is what it is and I have lots of company, apparently.  You all just go on with your lives and that is what I intend to do, too.

I thought I heard geese the other morning, as well.  And there are signs of autumn everywhere.  The angle of the sun has changed and long shadows are being cast down in the woods.  The temps. are still too high but they will gradually come down and soon we will all be talking about how cold it is.  Except Junee, of course, who will be storing away winter clothes and getting out summer ones to wear.

We are in danger of starving around here so we must get to the grocery store today along with some other errands to do.  Have a great day, everyone.  BTW, stop and say a little prayer in remembrance of 9/11.  I hope America never again experiences such a day as that one in 2001.  Wouldn't it be wonderful if for the first time in our lives the whole world would be at peace?

The tomatoes are on their first cooking and I'm on my second glass of ice water for the day.  It's supposed to get into the 90s today from late morning to early evening.  I can take that if it continues 70s night time.

Along with all the other signs of Autumn that you've all mentioned, there's another.  When I pass the high school I see kids in football uniforms.  And when I pass Bucknell stadium, I see college kids in football uniforms.  And the Halloween candy is arriving at WM.  Many of the commercials on TV are touting Pro Football!  TIS THE SEASON!

Hi everyone on a beautiful day here in South Carolina.  I have watered my flowers, emptied the dish washer, pulled up my tomato plants and got things ready to fix my frozen fruit after Pat gets up.  I am hoping my energy level will hold up for awhile this morning so I can accomplish a number of other small tasks that have accumulated.  I do need to fold the sheets I laundered last night and do another big load of washing.  Pat's eyes seemed better yesterday as she was tolerating the light better and she was walking somewhat better.

Jackie, thanks for the pasta suggestion and it sounds good.  Unfortunately, pasta is one of the items Pat is avoiding now as she tries to stay away from things made with flower or sugar.  That has limited what she can eat a lot.  We often have canned tuna in a lettuce salad for an evening meal.  Glad to read you had a better day yesterday.  I don't read complaining in your postings merely stating what your day has been as we all do and I learn a lot I didn't know about MS from your information shared.  At least your grandson's exposure in France will be short.

Joan, sure there are no lactose free Dairy Queen products as it is considered a dairy product.

Hal, glad to see your physical therapy appointments have concluded.  Keep up the good work.

Beverly, I am with you in terms of 68 degrees being too cold to be comfortable during the winter.  That is one suggestion I would not follow.

June, I always preferred malted milk shakes but you seldom seem them served anymore.

Amy, I bet your husband was shocked at your very limited purchasing at the quilt show.  :)  Glad you had a nice time.  Those sound like the type of panels that Pat would enjoy.

Joy, usually the Dollar Stores are not too big and the isles not too long.

Good morning from the Interior! Late fall is here and it beat early and mid fall here as well. The trees are yellowing and falling. We have dropped twenty degrees in our highs and lows and each morning there is frost covering the ground. This year was the summer that wasn't and now we have gone from rain to mid-October weather. I don't know what this says for the coming winter.

At the bird and wildlife sanctuary, the geese, cranes and other birds are making southern progress and as usual in the spring and fall migrations, all the hawks are out and observing and hoping for a quick meal. The golden eagles have already gone and the bald eagles are making their way to the southeast to winter along the coast in Haines.

The ravens and owls have replaced many of the southern summer birds and those small birds that remain, the Pine Siskins, different types of wrens, chickadees, and redpolls are gathering into the winter flocks from their summer solitude.

It amazes me sometimes to come and read about your high temperatures this time of year. But then I remind myself that I live in the arctic and we are three thousand miles from Seattle and more from most of you folks so there are many differences. We have gone from almost total twenty-four-hour daylight to 13 hours and 39 minutes expected today. Soon in the November trough January months, it will be light from only ten to three pm.

Farrah is on the window table watching all the bird activity. I don't know if she's glad she's inside or wishes she was out there in the thick of things. She isn't saying.

we have our fall schedule here firmly in hand, most of the weekly events, clubs, and activities have returned and the sun and moon have moved along a more northerly orbit. It seems that we slow down and enjoy during the summer and pick up the reins and become more energised in the fall.

I hope everyone is feeling better and that your day is proceeding well. Jane, I hope you will put some of that wonderful salsa and tomato sauce in the cupboard here for us all to enjoy!

Good Morning Everyone!

Nice morning out.  a little on the warm side, but there is a cool front expected in later today with some thunderstorms.  But we shall see.  Hopefully I will get a shower here at the house since I got the lawn mowed yesterday.

Went out to some friends last night and played cards and got home around 10:30 which is late for me.  Had a good time.  Played what was a new game for me, Hands and Foot.  The men put it on the ladies.

Not much on tap here today but watching some football.  Not crazy about the matchups, big guys picking on the little guys, normal for start of season.

I hope Jackies isn't too upset, notice she hasn't been in this morning and miss her.

And Gloria is missing, too.  I hope that she isn't upset that Jackie took her innocent statement to mean something else.  They are both valuable friends and I hope they come back soon.  They are missed.

Janie--I've been told to drink lots of water, but never have liked water.  So now I buy flavored water and find I like that.  I do miss the fall colors.  I've seen boys in football uniforms and TV doesn't let one forget that football season is here.  Seems all that is on during weekends is football--ugh!!

Good morning, Larry.  Too bad for me that there's no lactose free DQ.  Good luck to Pat as she follows her new food plan.

angelface--I think the weather has been somewhat fickle all over this year.  Fall seems to have arrived where you are.

Good morning halkel.  I've heard of that card game, but never played it.  I am missing Gloria and Vanilla-Jackie, too.

Hal, you gave me a giggle with your post. "Had a good time. Played what was a new game for me, Hands and Foot.  The men put it on the ladies."

I miss Gloria and Jackie too. We all need a safe place to vent at times. I know I often do. I've been reading and posting here since 2000 and have come to see us all as family, sometimes fractious, but always there to lend an ear or opinion.

Good Morning dear hearts and gentle people, Had a good sleep and a very slow and lazy rising. Had a call from the clinic to come down this morning. I was going to go down anyway, but I guess they felt the need to remind me. It will be a bandage change on my shoulder, and the vitals taken. I am grateful.

So I must get the bed made, and myself dressed...I all most said the bed dressed and myself made, but some how that didn't sound quite proper.  :) Will be back soon. June

Joan,  Where I go for blood work is connected with the hospital and it is open on Sat. mornings from 8 to 12.  I like to get there by 7:45 and lots of times there are still a couple people ahead me.  I didn't get there this morning  until about 8:10 and I was #7.  They have two technicians, so I wasn't in there too long.  Happen to meet up with a lady who used to live where I live, so we were able to chat for a little while, which made the time go faster. She was #6, so I wasn't long behind.  And, I knew the gal I had, so we got to talk a little bit, too, that took up some time.

Then, we went to breakfast and then to the Dollar Store.  It just opened about a week ago, and lots of the shelves were still empty.  However, I was able to get a few cards and some wrapping paper for a couple gifts that I am sending to my grand daughter for her baby shower.  I will pack up a box and will give it to my DIL when I see her in a couple week to mail for me  The UPS man comes to her business just about every day.  The shower isn't until the 15th of October, so I have time yet

The Dollar Tree store has their cards 2 for $1, but this new place they were $1 each.  So,  I only got a coupe that I needed soon. Got some cleaning supplies and they were just $1.  I will go back sometime later,  as the cashier said they were waiting for several big deliveries. I am sure it will be better the next time I go.

Hal, when I moved to the Senior place where I live, I had never heard of the Hand and Foot game. So, it didn't take me long to pick it up and there were a lot of players at that time.  There are only 2 or 3 groups that play now.  The last two weeks that I have played, my partner and I got "skunked" every game.  It is a lot like Canasta, so I am told. I never played Canasta, but that was a real popular game years ago.  However, I really like playing Hand and Foot.   Most of the players here like to play with 4 people..    2 sets of 2 partners.  But, when I first learned to play, sometimes it would be only 3 that wanted to play and then you were on our own, (without a partner). I really enjoyed playing it that way.   It was harder to get your meld, but I found it more interesting.  I hope you get to play more often.
It is a fun card game.   Did you have an one of the electric shuffler's?  It is a lot of cards to shuffle.  When the electric shuffler isn't available, they just spread the cards all out on the table and keep swishing them around and around.

When  I came back in today, the mailman hadn't been here yet.  He usually comes by 10:30, so don't know why he was late.  I think I will go down to see if he has been here before I get lunch and then find something constructive to do.

Have a good afternoon.  It was really getting hot when I came back.  Supposed to be in the low 90's.

Joy

Good morning everyone

Jackie I was talking about myself not you. Sorry you took it personally.

JOAN  I tried Boost but did not like the taste of it. There was a time 68 would have been good for me but not that I cannot move like I used to I have set this thermostat up higher on the cold days with no sun.

MARY ANN  at least you can still walk on your own. If I try walking without my rollator for more than 2 or 3 steps I have to get hold of anything I can reach and get back to it.

HAL  you are right, I did not mean that statement for Jackie.
Keep up those exercises, I still try to do the ones I learned when I had PT.

JUNEE  sad we did not appreciate our active young years when we had them.

JUNE  you made me look at the way I walk. I still do the heel toe but do not  pick my feet up as much as I used to.

JOAN  I have never had a toaster strudel and they have been around a long time. My son was just here for his weekly visit, did not know till then that it was raining again, more like a drizzle than rain. Love the Aunt Emma. Thank you for today's goodies.

AMY  the humidity has not let up here at all this week. The material you bought sounds great, love both old barns and covered bridges.

JOY  like you when asked how I am doing I say can't complain does no good and no one wants to hear it because we all have something. Their reply is -so right. There is a Family Dollar store a few miles from here but I have never had a chance to check it out.

JANE  this SS is where I start all my days. Like you I would be lost without this cyber family we have.

LLOYD  with the drought conditions here may of the big farms  with their ponds drying up have crops withering in the fields.  So sad to lose all that food.

PHYLLIS  I have noticed the sun setting earlier this past week. Of course we have not had much sunshine but it is getting dark earlier. That is the only thing I dislike this time of year. I like the late sunset times, I think we all do. Peace on earth is a wonderful thought but wonder if it will ever happen.

LARRY  white flour and sugar are in almost everything we eat these days. So many different forms of sugar to watch out for.

I am here just late getting started. Another night with no sleep and when I finally found some ZZZz's I woke at 9 this morning. Started posting more than 2 hours ago and then my son came so had a visit with him. Good to know that some of you know me well enough to know I would never say something to hurt anyone. Wish I could take back yesterday's post to Jackie but too late. Thank you for believing in me.

I was just going to read while eating my lunch but June's post about "dressing her bed and making herself" reminded me of an exchange we used to have as kids.

First kid: You have to do (whatever).
Second kid: MAKE ME!
First Kid: I can't! You were already made and you were made a mess!

Patricia:  I already put salsa and dippers in the hidey hole.  The sauce I'm making today will be for cooking.  I put it in things like meat loaf and casseroles.  It tastes pretty good but it's not like spaghetti sauce.

Good Morning,

Some areas of OKC had heavy rain and very high straight winds last night.   Everything at my house looked wet this morning but I didn't see any evidence of wind.

All My Children are in Stillwater for the OSU football game.  It's Dad's Day, so #1 son is experiencing a first (for Freshman Carson) and a last (for Senior Emily).  Saw a picture of the three of them on Facebook;  he looked a bit shell-shocked.   :smitten:

Re Afib:   At age 22,  my #2 son was diagnosed with Afib and Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome.  To save space, here's a link   http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/wolff-parkinson-white/basics/definition/con-20043508 (http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/wolff-parkinson-white/basics/definition/con-20043508).
The ablation procedure was developed by a cardiologist at the OU Medical Center here in OKC and Scott was the first one to have it after it had been officially approved by the American Medical Association in June, 1988.
He is now 50 and still has some Afib.  However, other than taking a pill and having an annual check-up with his cardiologist, he lives a normal very active life.
I am so grateful that we lived here where doctors knew about the ablation development because, otherwise, he would have had to go to Canada for open-heart surgery.

I can get into a lot of trouble at the Dollar Store.   ;D    When Miss Ellen was setting up her first household, I found dishes similar to FiestaWare and coordinating kitchen accessories there - and completely outfitted her dining needs for less than $50.00.

Larry,  I see more and more gluten-free products in our grocery stores and quite a few restaurants have gluten-free items on their menus.   Also sugar-free could be a problem, though.

Project du Jour is baking cookies for a dinner after church tomorrow - celebrating the church's 20th anniversary. (It was an off-shoot of First Presbyterian "on the other side of town".)

Off to the kitchen.

Enjoy your day, Everyfriend.

angelface--Sometimes  our halkel says things I don't understand.:)

June--They sure do take good care of you where you live.

Gloria--I tried Boost, too, and didn't care for it.  Sure is nice your son comes to visit every week.  I wish we'd get some of that rain.

Janie--I giggled at what you said as kids.  Thanks for putting some sauce in the "hidey hole".

Callie--I have a friend who had that ablation several years ago.  She is doing well now with a couple pills daily.  Thanks for the link.  How about putting some cookies in the "hidey hole"?

I finally got my day started. B.P. was a very happy surprise 128 over...?  I forgot. Bandage changed so I'm set till I am to go for another b.p. check later today. I felt so good, so wandered over to the club house and picked up next weeks schedule of activities. Checked the lunch menu. I'll go down again for tacos, and sides.
Took a half hours walk around the grounds and enjoyed the trees and flowers and greetings. Several people were playing Shuffleboard.....very quiet all over for a Saturday.

Gloria, it is such a thrill to have you back with us again. I take it your new stuff in the computer is working o.K  ? I sure hope so. I still feel they owe you though.

I see many of you go to the Dollar Store. I used to go with a friend that would take me there, but that was in my other life. I found out that most all their things were a product of China, and it hurt me to think I was helping to support a possible enemy of our Country.

Only God knows which countries are or are not enemies. Makes me extra confident knowing that He is in charge of it all.

Bis, the care here certainly is wonderful, and they make one feel you are doing them a favor by having them treat you. And there are always hugs available. I have never in my life felt so content.

Angel, agree, my phraseology could have been better.  ;)  There was no touching in the game.
Joy, no shuffler.  We washed the cards, as they put it.  Just dumped them all face down in the middle of the table and shuffled them round and round, dived in and took out enough cards for the hand. we had three couples playing.
Joanie, sometimes I say things I don't understand either.... ;D
I go to the local dollar store to buy my sun glasses.  Get about five pair and then when those "evaporate" they must "evaporate" because no one knows what happens to them and I didn't throw them away.  I just put them in the car and seems only the old broken, scratched ones stay there.  Hmmmmmmmm.

June--It makes me happy to know what good care they take of you and how content you are there.

halkel--Never heard the saying "we washed the cards".  I have prescription glasses and sunglassses and always know where they are.  When I used those "readers" I had them all over the house and never could find them.

Good afternoonon a very warm sept day, yersterday got to over 90.  Athe begining of the week, I had worn a sweater.

Joan, I do not like water either, and after I was in the hospital with Kidney faiture, I was told to drink plenty of water,  Doctor suggested I try VitaminWater, which has a lot in it. I like the lemonade. Also like the joke about Aunt Emma.

Gloria, we did not get the rain the weatherman promised.  I keep my husband old walk, by the tubl, I hold on to it when I get out of it.
People are aways asking me how do I feen, when I am out somewhere.  Most of the time, I say I made it here, no use to say how I really feel.

Phyllis, I also have A-Fib, when I was in the hospital a year and a half ago. Was also when I had the heart attack and pneumonia.  I had so many test then, I do not remember what was done, then I spent 3 weeks in rehab.

Janiie, I will fix dinner after I am done here, so will look in the hidey hole" for the scause.

Hal keep up with that PT.

Larry, my first job in Charleston, was in a Frosted Malt shop. We made it everymorning, it was like soft ice cream.  We also sold ice cream. Was a very buesy place between 3 & 4, as we were 1 block from the main Navy Yard gateYard workers and sailors. I made $12 for a 6 day week.

Joy, I use to play Hand & Foot every Saturday night, Most of the time there were only 3 of us.  never played partners. I had a shuffler.

June, sounds like your BP is getting better.  My BP is always up when I go to the hematologist.

Hal,  I was in the kitchen baking cookies and missed the end of the game. I'll have to catch up on the evening news. I've already seen one family comment on Facebook; it was printable but I'm not sure any others would be!

OU's game tonight can only be seen on "pay for view" and I won't do that for a football game - even if it is my Sooners.

Lemonade cookies with multi-colored sprinkles are in the hidey-hole.  Help yourselves.   :yum:

GLORIA....
....I make my apologies if I got your post wrong yesterday but.....you cant blame me for jumping the gun, as I well remember your comments over the last few years, re, how you boycott, pass over any members posts that moan or complain, as you dont want to be hearing them,....and I am noticing lately you post to many Soda Shoppe members but one name you always leave out is a posting to me, ( five days ago I believe my name got a mention, ) even when I have made a previous posting that would generate some form of a comment, ie, my dog who I am soon to lose, and, or my MS and its symptoms, to name just a few,...which would usually get some form of a response from other members...Then yesterday all of a sudden I spot a first post from Gloria mentioning my name, then low and behold when I read it, it is as good as telling me not to complain, as we have all had our problems...not a post I was expecting...as there were so many other things you could have said to me if you wished...Unlike others, I am still not convinced you meant it as you state, I have read it again and it still comes across as cold and making an attack at me,.... but I am happy to give you the benefit of the doubt seeings that I am rather outnumbered...

And a special thank you to all who said they would miss me if I stopped posting....

Sauce is all finished and canned and the jars are cooling on the kitchen counter.  It will sure make some good meat loaves and casseroles when the time comes.

I did a favor for my Grandniece who is a sophomore at Susquehanna University not too far from where I live.  I ordered something she needs for her class and it came today.  Tomorrow, I'm taking it down there after church and taking her to lunch and if she needs to do some shopping, we'll do that.  I love spending time with her and lately there hasn't been much of that.  It'll be a fun time.

Now it's time to scrounge up some supper for me and the doggies and then I have to make dog food before I go to bed tonight.  I'll try to get back later.

I hope you are all having a wonderful day!

Linedancer--I'm not familiar with Vitamin Water, but I will check it out.  Good idea to keep your husband's old walker for the tub.  So you belong to the A-fib club, too.  I'm sure those of us who have it would prefer not to.

halkel--You and Callie into football again?

Callie--Guess the outcome of your game wasn't what you'd have liked.  Thanks for the yummy lemonade cookies you put in the hidey hole.

Vanilla-Jackie--I hate to have anyone's feelings hurt.  Sorry that happened.

Janie--How nice that you are going to go see your grandniece tomorrow, take her what you ordered that she needed, take her shopping if needed and then take her to lunch.

Water is my favorite beverage.  I have an idea the source of the water determines whether we like it or not.  In the City of Grand Rapids, they get their water from Lake Michigan.  I am in Plainfield Township and I think we have well water, however, it is "fixed" before we get it.  I know the water in Indianapolis tastes different than our water.

Gloria de, when I go down for a b.p. check now, they tell me to just sit quietly for a minute. So I spend that minute doing the slow breathing. VERY slow, and it seems it is working. I "see" in my mind, the breath traveling up my nose and the exhale traveling back down. Maybe it is a fluke, but if it continues to keep the pressure down I will do it more often. I know it is also a Yoga exercise.

Callie, Thank you…the cookies I snatched are still warm and sooooooooo good.

Jackie, each one of us here is important, as we are all different and all have something to contribute. Helping and understanding others, even those we may not agree with all the time, is our gain, we gain deep thought, and our great loss if one of us should disappear. It is only natural that we cannot agree with everyone at all times, but I doubt very much if any one of us would deliberately set out to hurt another. I read an article today on Japanese Scientists keeping a blood cancer patient alive and it almost frightens me to think of the knowledge that is growing in so many areas out there….I would hate to think I would live for years longer. I have had both sad and bad and good things occur in my life span, and it is enough. That does not mean I feel we should all die at a certain age, it is just revealing a thought that I happen to have.

Janie, I had a grand day…nothing special…just good to be alive and in here visiting with all of you. I came home eventually and read and napped. Right now I'm glugging down some Minute Maid orange juice that I ordered on line the other day. I also ordered some boxes of fruit juices…felt that was a better drink than root beer or other sodas. I think it is wonderful, the relationships you hold so dear to your relatives and friends. God must be smiling at all you do.

Sun, my dear, dear friend. I have missed you so, thank you for your message. I remember when Gloria had surgery on her hands, and how she was able to learn to peck and poke and still manage to get a message out. As I recall, she became pretty adept at it too. So please do come in often Sweetie, if it is just a line or two, it is better than nothing. Big Hugs to you.

Good evening   Sun so good to see you, you have been missed. If you can only write a couple of words, just keep us posted.

June, I repeat what the nurse kept saying to me about breathing, Smell the garden and blow out the candle.  That really helped, I still have to do that in the morning,

As always June expresses herself so well. i hate to get into this, no one posting in heres would ever hurt anybody, Gloria is always so thoughful in her posting, but you can't answer everyone. I know of only one person who remarked on my bad spelling, years ago and he is long gone now. This is all I am going to say  We are all here to share and help each other through their big and small problems.  This happens to be a downer day for me ,as my son was killed in and accident 17 years ago, age 42

Sun I m so happy to see your post! Do come back even if it is just to post a smiley for us!

Okay, fair warning everyone! I am dragging my footstool next to the hideyhole and plan first dibs on all the goodies!

My blood pressure has always been 90 over 60. I sometimes feel faint if I get up suddenly and once fainted for a moment years ago.

Hal, I had this image of you guys playing Twister and using a deck of cards.

Gloria de., I know in a way how you feel. Memorial day is hard for me and it's been 25 years. You are so much stronger than I am.

I think I picked up something yesterday as my stomach is queasy and I'm running my nose and eyes are watering. It sounds like an allergy but it better not be. I'll take a cold over another blankety blank allergy!

“On this anniversary of 9/11, we remember the Americans whose lives ended in terror by forces that sought to attack not only our people, but also our identity as a nation. Those who attacked us that day meant to strike fear into our hearts, but America proved that we would not give up on the values and the ideals that distinguish us as a people.

“From the first responders who charged toward danger to the men and women in uniform who served their country in the aftermath of the attacks, we offer our gratitude and continue our commitment to upholding our promise to care for those who keep us safe. And we’ll continue to fight terrorism.

“We should remain as determined as we were fifteen years ago to never forget.”

Sun,  it is so good to have you back.  Sorry your hand is still bothering you, but do as much "hunt and peck" as you can so you can at least let us all know that you are doing ok.

For what it is worth................   almost 30 years ago,  my youngest son had a problem with alcohol and went to AA meetings religiously.  I went to Ala-non meetings to help myself understand what was going on.  I learned one very important thing there..........

You don't have to agree with something to accept it. This has gotten me through many, many different situations.  That is the first thing I tell myself when I encounter a situation that I either don't like or have a problem with.   It sure makes my life a lot more pleasant.

And, thankfully, my son got himself straightened out and is doing well.

It was in the 90's today, but tomorrow it is supposed to be a lot cooler and stay that way all next week.

Hope everyone will have a good rest of the evening.

Joy

Hooray!  Sun's back!  We have really missed you!  Come back often and peck at us!

I'm off to Dreamland soon.  I think it's raining and that's good sleeping weather for me.  I hope you all have a peaceful night's rest and may God bless us, every one!

Sun, welcome back.  If you can only hunt and peck with one finger, do it!  If you don't spell right, so what!  We want to hear from you some way or other.

As others have said, - we missed you.

SUN....
.....A  very warm welcome back, I have often thought about you, and how your bad hand has been  faring....

JOAN...
...Thank you, but it wasn't you who hurt my feelings or angered me....just in future I shall be more careful of the subjects I openly talk about...
In the past I would have turned a blind eye from comments I could have posted a reply to, but not on this occasion...

MYCHEAL....
...Yes, one of our saddest days in history, 15 years ago, and not only American lives, 67 British.....it affected and shed so many tears around the world...

DE ANGEL ( Gloria De )...

" Re your statement...." People are aways asking me how do I feen, when I am out somewhere.  Most of the time, I say I made it here, no use to say how I really feel..."

I would tell them, SOME of those people will genuinely want to know how you are..... and in time you will find those who really do want to listen to your answer, and the ones who dont. .... So you will know next time THEY ask, whether to keep quiet or not...

JUNEDRABEK....

...Re, keeping alive....it was only the other day I was looking up the list of British Super Centenarians....I was so surprised to see such a long list, and the ages of reaching 110 to 115....With our oldest remaining living, age 112 and 82 days...

...Re, your statement of......" you dont have to agree with something to accept it..."
I can see how it worked for you over your then alcoholic son, and very happy to know he had the support from a loving and caring mother, and through you, and your help and devotional support, he has now gotten over it and leading a better life...
....................................................

...but this now brings me onto the subject of.....for years now both myself and R have been tv Coronation Street fans, this is our longest running tv soap, going back to the days of Ena Sharples, Mini Caldwell and Martha Longhurst, if they were alive today they would turn in their graves if they could see how Coronation Street has turned out now....The programme has for many years shown either a set of female couples or a set of male couples, but it has NEVER shown anything going on between them, and certainly not close up or Intimate, we all have a good imagination, so it was just left to that but  ...now we have a male couple that no bars are hold, ( one is playing a vicar, ) we are both finding this programme now hard to watch, we both turn our heads or fast forwards, how has this programme of 56 years turned into this, is stooping so low...so on this basis, we all know that same sex relationships go on and is here to stay, we accept this but, we dont want, nor have to accept it, being shown on what was once a decent and humorous  three weekly tv soap....On this basis neither myself nor R will, or can accept this, nor agree with this, whilst being shoved down our throats at 7.30 in the evenings, before our watershed of 9pm....I am sure other long time tv fans of this programme must be as disgusted as we are, just who are these script writers?.....What we need is another Mary Whitehouse...a clean up tv campaigner...
