Patricia - That's an interesting metaphor about staying on the bus, instead of giving up and getting off.  Yes, the scenery does change, but you have to hang-in-there, because it usually takes a long time.

I'm very pleased to see that all of the kittens have been adopted!  Being as I'm not a very positive person, ("Glass half empty"), I expected that the two with the worst visual problems, might be left behind.  Fortunately there are still lots of kind and compassionate people left in the world!

Maryline, another way to look at it is that old saw about wishing on a star."The journey to Alpha Centauri B orbit would take about 100 years, at an average velocity of approximately 13411 km/s (about 4.5% the speed of light) and another 4.39 years would be necessary for the data to reach Earth." At that rate, it may be something we take upon ourselves! :)

Joy

Good Wednesday morning to all my friends here.

It is a beautiful, sunny morning and no rain expected.  That is a big plus after so many rainy days.

I will be busy with therapy today.  Both occupational and physical therapist will be here.  And, they do keep a person busy.  They make me really work for almost an hour.  But, every little bit helps to get me moving better each time.

I just wanted to check in and wish everyone a great day.

Patricia,  that is a very inspiring message from Jamie Lee Curtis.  And, it does apply to any kind of an unhappy situation.  I also have another good message that I rely on quite often..... sometimes everyday..... "You don't have to agree with something, to accept it".....  Over 30 years ago, my youngest son had a problem with alcoholism and I went to many Alanon meetings.  That saying is the one that meant the most to me.  And, it can also apply to many different situations.  Thankfully, my son has been clean for over 30 years.    Thanks for sharing that message.

I will try to get back in later.

Meanwhile, enjoy the day.

Hi Everyone.  It is another bright and sunny morning and once again we are headed well into the 90's with a heat index that likely will exceed 100 degrees.  I got my day started early as made a trip to Walmart to pick up our online grocery order.  This time I had to go to a store that is over 20 minutes away from us as both of our local Walmart's had closed the online ordering for a week due to the hurricane.  Fortunately, there is a parkway I can go on for most of the way and the traffic wasn't bad.  I was home by about 8:30 and things are put away.  We are back from downtown where Pat had blood drawn in preparation at the lab in preparation for a visit to her GP next week.  When that was done we went across the street to have breakfast where I go to coffee on Thursday Mornings and split a Western Omelet and grits.  No need for lunch today. This evening is the Wednesday night dinner and then Scott will be out to visit with us for awhile.  That is plenty for one day.  I haven't read the messages yet so will do that when we get home later this morning.

Joy, have an alert button that will send an alarm if it detects you have fallen would be great were you to pass out and fall.  One of the features to be on the new iWatch is emergency alert in the event of a fall and will contact help if you don't indicate you are all right.  That apple pie sounds good.  We have some vanilla ice cream but not the apple pie.

Sandy, am anxious to hear how you like the Rollator, once you get it.  Pat sees the doctor next week and will be requesting a prescription for one.  She has been doing a lot of looking in preparation. Send some of that cooler weather down this way as except for the two days the Hurricane was in the area we have been in the 90's everyday for well over a month and it continues.

Mary Ann, I think both men and women appreciate getting a haircut.  Unfortunately it is not long before it grows out again and has to be done all over.

Patricia, I see you were able to get your most of errands done yesterday.  That can be a really tiring thing to do.  I can't really visualize a white sky that isn't clouds.  We have had some really beautiful puffy white clouds around here the last few days although we didn't see a cloud in the sky when we were out just a little bit ago. I liked that "Stay on the Bus" and that is so true.

MarsGal, free tickets to museums sounds great.  However, I would no longer be able to walk in museums.

deAngel, the panic button is something one hopes never to have to use but are wonderful when needed.  Your Church sounds much like the one I grew up in, which was a little country Church in our little town.

Marilyne, it sounds like you are having a great time with your family members there.  I hope Claire found the shoes she needed.  My wife also has trouble getting shoes but has found some she can wear with having one of them stretched.

Jean, I don't have a problem with caffeine keeping me awake but Pat sure does.  We try to stay decaf as much as possible.

Larry here is a link to a couple of photos of those white skies and just one or two of Farrah and one of a comfort dish of moose, potatoes, onions, and green beans.

Good news. Barb and Mike think they will be able to start back down home tomorrow morning. As of now, there is a way back into their area, thought that may change. They are thinking of going as far as Virginia and staying overnight in that area instead of driving 9-10 hours all at once. One of Mike's co-workers went by their house and took some pictures. It looks like the only thing damaged is a fence gate. No flooding. Looks like, as best he can tell, no roof or window damage, but the power is still out.

I got the front yard mowed this morning. It is still warm and very humid.

More lovely pix of Farrah, Patricia, and the moose dish looks good.

Marilyne

Daughter and granddaughter left about an hour ago, for the 100+ mile drive back to their apartment.  Wonderful to have them here, but I'm so tired, and need to sleep for a couple of days! (if only!)  Shelley always likes to discuss/talk/dredge up, old issues from her marriages, problems with her adult children, et al :'(   I listen with sympathy, and always join in with my two cents worth.  The memories are depressing, but she needs to talk about them.

Then Sandy arrives, and she always has her own set of ongoing problems, regrets, etc.  I won't even begin to go into that, but between the two of them, lots of angst and drama going on.

Mary Ann

Patricia, I enjoyed the pictures of Farrah in "her" chair because Kendrick takes over chairs too.  He sheds, so I find it necessary to place a towel on chairs so others don't end up with orange clothing.

Marilyn, your daughter and granddaughter sound somewhat like Tom.  I doubt he'll ever marry again, because his lady friends have so much baggage.  One does not want you to associate with anyone she dislikes and right now they are on the outs because Tom gave a ride to her disabled sister and the sisters are not speaking at the moment.  Of course, she is also not speaking to Tom.  The other woman is paranoid and thinks people are spying on her.  Tom took psychology in college, but he says he cannot help her because she won't let herself be helped.  She's a college grad.  Tom is installing an alarm system for her today.  Ironically, most of Tom's male friends are millionaires - I kid you not.  Tom is poor as a church mouse.  But he's happy!

It's been a lovely day today and I think it will stay that way for at least one more day.  We are in the low 70s now at 6:10 pm.

I spent come time on the deck an may go out there again.

Mary Ann

Hi Everyone.  Just more of the same weather wise today with heat and humidity.  However, yesterday evening when we came home from dinner at the Church I noticed the air was much cooler than it has been at that time all summer so there is hope for some cooler weather.  Our dinner last evening at Church was quite good and we all enjoyed it.  We then came home and had a nice evening with Scott.

Today is coffee day so will pick up my friend and go downtown for an hour.  I have a prescription to pick up at Walmart and a couple of other items and then plan on a quiet day.  I think I will refresh my Windows 10 software on my laptop.  Fortunately it doesn't have too much in the way of programs installed and the refresh doesn't destroy my personal files although will certainly back them up before starting the process.  It is a bit of a job but have done it quite a few times so know what is involved.  Other than that I plan for a quiet day.

Patricia, thanks for sharing those photos of the white skies and after looking at them I have seen such skies many times.  It looks like that camp chair is just made for Farrah.  Your moose dish looks tasty.

MarsGal, good news regarding Barb and Mike's home.  I am sure they are anxious to get back in it and hopefully will have the power restored soon.  I have forgotten where they live and expect you told us earlier.

Marilyne, sometimes it is  relief to see family and friends leave even though we love having them visit us.  It seems there is never and end of family problems. It is hard to stay out of the drama and wanting to fix the problems.  Don't ask me how I know about this.  :)  Hope you can get some good rest in the next couple of days.

Mary Ann, it sounds like Tom has some interesting friends.  It sounds like he knows how to deal with these type of friends and issues.

Joy

Good Thursday morning.  A little cloudy, but I don't think they are calling for rain.

Just want to say Hi !   I am sorry that I can't make a lot of comments on previous postings, but I don't want to sit too long without propping  my legs up.  Hard to do that sitting at the computer.  I have another internet site that I need to say good morning to, also.  This is a little craft group that I have been involved with for a long time. Way back to when I was doing crafts.  Only a few of us left and we do talk a lot more about other things now. They get concerned when I don't make an appearance.  A couple still do crafts and shows, and I am still interested in seeing what they make.  I have begun getting rid of most of my craft supplies as I just have lost interest in making a lot of things now.  I still like to crochet and I might make a few ornaments.

Larry, I am looking to get a new rollator. I was told that Medicare will not cover a rollator????  I had one that had been my husband's and it was not working all that well. I bought another one from Amazon, but didn't realize that it was a bariatric one......for a large person. I was only interested in getting one with the bigger wheels and didn't pay attention to how big the actual walker was.  Is really  too big for me.  My DIL wants to take me to pick one out that I will be comfortable with, but very few places in my area carry them.  I did find 2 drug stores that have a couple on display, so do plan to go look at them.  I used one when I was in the rehab place that I really liked and was comfortable with, but it must have been old, as we can't seem to find one like it.

I had a visit from the PT and the OT yesterday and they worked with me for about an hour each.  Given some upper body exercises to do and made 2 trips up and down the hallways outside my apartment.  Did well, and really slept good last night.  Next week, the OT told me she wants me to make a meal, to see how I do in the kitchen.  Not sure what that will involve.   Today is a free day, so I plan to catch up with a few things that I have left go.  Tomorrow I have a doctor's appt. so the nurse will be here later in the day.

Hope everyone will have a good day.

Joy, it is good to see you posting again.  I had PT for a few weeks for my bum right shoulder but I could see it wasn't doing what the therapist or I wanted, so I quit.  I am not sure how much good therapy does at my age anyhow.

Joy, I had heard that Medicare covered one Rollator and that is all.  I have a signed paper by my PCP for one when I decide I want one.  I am still able to walk however unsteady and I did manage to get to the mailbox and back the other day, which is as far as I have gone for some time.

We are having a gentle rain this morning and from the looks of radar, we will have it for several days.  Oops, I just saw some lightning and am hearing the thunder now.  I have discovered a storm this time of the year breaks the heat cycle so we should get cooler temps shortly.  We've been in the 80s and will get into the 70s.  Isn't the start of Autumn today or tomorrow?

Larry, Tom does OK with his friends.  He's always had nice friends and most call me "Aunt Mary Ann".  I've known many of them since his high school days.  His mother always said Tom "marched to a different drummer" and she was right.  Right now he and I differ in religion and politics, but we get along just fine.  He's always been "my boy".

Joy, my mother in law bought a rollator via Medicare just two months ago. She had a prescription from her doctor, paid the supplier for the device, and was reimbursed by the supplier when Medicare paid them.

There are many reasons to use a Rollator...
"unsteady being right up there at the top,  IMHO"...

I am getting one because of my limited sight in one eye only.
Using a Rollator will protect me when walking outside
here on sidewalks of Portland Maine.  It will help me
keep my balance when I walk into a falty area on the side
walks.

It will afford me the guidence that I require now.   Plus
I can walk and stop and sit for a bit which hopefully will
encourage me to get out a  walk more.

Mary Ann,  I encourage you to get one while you
are still up and mobile...

A  new lease on life feeling more confident in
your ability to get around.

Peace....

Thanks, Sandy, I am looking into getting one.  One thing, Tom loves to spend MY money and we're already into a counter-top microwave and an Instant Pot but a Rollator is definitely in my future - soon.

Good late morning from a drizzling Interior. Its too warm to snow but right for rain as this entire week through the weekend has a forty to sixty percent for rain. I know what the calendar says and what the Farmer's Almanac says but that is for more southern climes. Our autumn starts right around September first. Interestingly enough, you can have a sense of burrowing back through time by setting out on a drive from Fairbanks to Anchorage, from fall to late summer.

The building directly below me was a Montessori school on one side and a Headstart on the other, and I always enjoyed hearing the children at recess. This summer it was sold, and there is now an Alaska Native Elders Program there. They took out the playground equipment and put in a lawn and some raised garden beds that are currently being harvested. I miss hearing the young children at play.

Someone said the various local Montessori schools are being relocated into a hotel that has been vacant for a while. I did see another Headstart occupied building for sale on the West side of town, so perhaps they are also consolidating? My building is surrounded by parking lots and industrial buildings on three sides and the looping channels of the river on the other. So many of these smaller buildings change hands and functions often. The other six buildings of the old Canadian chain are in more residential areas. Although now that we are state-owned, I guess I can't say only the seven buildings anymore.

MaryAnn, I would put a towel down for visitors, but I rarely have them, (I tend to go out instead); and those few that do come will notice the grey hair on the chair's green coloring. Alan was here the other day to collect the abandoned toys and small cubby of Farrah's to take home for Duchess and Bonnie, but he knows to look first with cats of his own. Next summer he has plans to build a catio on one side of his house with three levels. It will be between the house and a shop. He has plans for cat doors shaped like a cat's head for catio entrances from the house as well as the shop. The name shop is a misnomer as Alan and friends use it for a man's cave, (sports and card games). Dora is not into sports but plays a mean hand of poker.

Our lovely rain disappeared and went north.  It was part of a band of rain that went across Wisconsin, Lake Michigan and Michigan.  But the band across the state is north in the UP and I think we are done.  My rain gauge showed two inches, so it was a productive rain.

I went out on the deck and had to uncover the loveseat.  The cover was loaded with rain and I had to shake the cover to get rid of the water.  I was able to sit out there, but it became rather warm so I came back in.

Someone, probably my neighbor who tended my garden this year, divided my colchicum and they are not in a clump as they had been, but now are individually placed.  I was so glad to find them, even if in a different spot than I expected.  Colchicum are a fall crocus where the foliage comes up in the Spring, then dies down in July.  In September the flower comes up and they are much larger than the Spring crocus, but essentially the same shape.

Kendrick is being very good.  When I go out the front door, I usually let him out on the porch while I complete whatever I go out to do.  When I get back to go in the house, he hops right in.  I don't let him out at night because I don't want him to get any ideas about wandering.

I'm watching golf from Atlanta.  Tiger Woods is doing well - tied for first.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

I thought sure that I posted a message in this folder today, but apparently I didn't?  The weather has gone back to hot . . . was in the 90's today.  Lots of warnings about possible wildfires starting up again, because the wind has picked up and is coming from the East.  That means DRY conditions, with the humidity dropping down to as low as 10 in certain areas.  The last I looked at our humidity reading here, it was 15.  This was on the Weather Underground site, which is always pretty accurate.

Hockey season has started up once again, so AJ will be spending three or four nights a week watching The San Jose Sharks.  Fortunately we have a second television, so I can still catch most of my favorite shows.

Mary Ann - I was going to take a look at the Golf Channel this afternoon, but then forgot all about it.  I'll probably watch over the weekend. Good to hear that Kendrick has lost interest in doing any outside exploring, and is content to wait for you on the porch.

Larry - Our two daughters need someone to talk to about their troubles, and I don't mind listening and being there, as their so-called, "sounding board".  It does get depressing for me sometimes, but I'm glad I'm still here when things go wrong, to just listen, and offer some reassurance and support. (I know better than to offer advice!)

Joy

Good morning.  A kind of hazy day starting, but it is early.

Another day that finds me feeling well.  I am amazed at how much better I am feeling.  I don't have that tired feeling that I had been having for a long time. I really feel like my problems were going on a lot longer than I realized, and I am so grateful that "something" told me that I better get to the hospital.

I have a doctor's appointment this morning, so I am just stopping by to say  "Hi !".

I will try to get back later.  I am sorry that I can't make too many comments to your messages, but hopefully, I will be able to sit longer as time goes by.

Have a great day.

Hi Everyone.  We are in for a mostly sunny day and getting back into the low 90's this afternoon with humidity.  It will be a busy morning as the housekeeper will be here, I have to go for a pacemaker check and on the way home will stop at Costco to pick up a few things.  I plan to eat my lunch there as know by the time I get home I will be ready to rest.  I slept good last night until I woke up at 5 this morning.  Yesterday was a full day with going to Walmart, downtown to coffee and resetting my laptop computer and then restoring the various programs I use on it. The reset removes applications but leave personal files and settings.  However, I am careful to have those backed up just in case something goes wrong.  I think I about have everything back to where I want it.

Joy, as others have said we just like to stay in touch with you and what you to take care of yourself. My wife used to crochet but doesn't do it anymore and I think has given away most of her hooks and books related to that hobby.  Her focus has been on quilting now for quite a few years.  I am going to call Blue Cross and Blue Shield to see whether they would cover some of the cost of a Rollator and if so what the process is.  We only have Part A Medicare so we will be dealing only with the insurance company.  It was nice to read that you are feeling well this morning.

Mary Ann, it is nice that you know many of Tom's friends.  We were told when Stacey was about 6 or 7 years old that she also "marched to a different drummer" and that was true throughout her life.  I suppose this is true for all of us in some ways as we each hold different opinions and likes and dislikes.  I am sure you are very significant, and always have been, in Tom's life. At least a microwave is not a major expense.  I read yesterday that Amazon will soon have one of their own on the market for around $50.  I think the one we used before we moved here was about that amount and it did all we wanted it to do and was small.  We got it at Walmart and Stacey had the same one in her apartment. I didn't watch any of the golf yesterday but did check on the scores a couple of times.  It would really be something if Tiger ends up winning the Fed-Ex Cup but I really doubt that it will end that way. There is still a lot of golf to be played and it looks like weather will not be a factor throughout the weekend.

Marilyne, your temperature is about the same as ours but we have humidity in the 70% range or higher most of the time.  I have never been interested in hockey.  On my last assignment in Washington, DC, I had a lady working for me who was an avid hockey fan and both she and her sister had season tickets to the Washington Capitals games. We often serve as a sounding board for our son so certainly understand what you are talking about.  We are happy to serve that function and we probably have the closest relationship we have ever had since he became an adult.  We also try not to offer advice.

Patricia, it seems things are in a constant state of change, such as your building and surrounding areas. Nice that you can give Alan the cat toys that are of no interest to Farrah.  It sounds like he has very pampered cats.  I guess my office is my man cave and Pat's sewing room is her lady's cave.

Sasha, thanks for the information on the rollator.  I wonder if that is how Blue Cross and Blue Shield would also handle the matter.  I did a quick Search and found that fall officially starts tomorrow.

Sandy, have you ordered your Rollator?  I know Pat visualizes being able to get out a bit more when she can get one and can sit down whenever she needs to, which is usually after being on here feet for only a few minutes. I want her to have it to help prevent a fall.

Mary Ann

It's already 75 degrees here and I can see the temp going up into the 80s, maybe mid-80s.  I feel warm inside the house, so will turn on the a/c soon.  Because of the rain yesterday, the mowers did not come but are here today.  I will watch the golfers starting about 11 am or noon, after I really begin my day.  Tiger has never been a favorite of mine, so while I wish him well, I do not want him to win this tournament.  I have no particular favorite because all of the young players are my favorites!

I used to knit, crochet and counted cross stitch but those hobbies/talents gave way to the computer.  I took to a computer like a duck takes to water.  The thing is that the main reason I wanted a computer was for genealogy and I have a lot of genealogy on this computer.  My fanciwork consisted on several counted cross stitch genealogy samplers.

Tom is a "middle child" and I've heard they often do march to a different drummer.  He now is the "only child" because both his older and younger brothers have died - both at age 58.  I remember several of my friends and relatives died at 67 and I was so happy when I reached 68.  I never expected to reach my 90s.

Joy, it's good to see your post, especially when you say you are feeling good.  I feel that way too since my hospital visit and I think your problem was much more serious than mine.  I do take all of my pills each day, which was the reason I had my problem; I was not taking my pills regularly!  For shame!

Marilyn, Tom doesn't seem to have any problems himself, but he tells me the problems his lady friend has.  I only mention something once in a while and he'll say he already tried that.  She is paranoid; thinks people are spying on her - and she's just moved into a new apartment and thinks that.  I did have a neighbor here in the condo who knew everything that was going on and told about it.  I didn't go to church for a couple of Sundays (this was in the 1980s) and she mentioned it to me.  I put a curtain in the window of my garage because she had looked in the garage window.  That solved that problem.  I like to think I think the best in people so it is hard to understand the current lady friend's paranoia.  Because I am not!

Marilyn, we have a hockey team but I have not seen this team.  Years ago we had a team and we'd go to some of the games.  Today I would not be able to manage the steps in the stadium.

I think it is time for me to start my day.  It is also trash pick up day and I have to get the normal trash ready.  Tom already took care of the recycle stuff and that has been picked up.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Mary Ann - Tom sounds like he is a good person, who is willing to listen to the troubles and problems of others. I would guess that he has lots of friends, who really like and appreciate him.  He sounds a lot like my son Brad, who is very different from his two sisters.  He's the middle child between the two girls, and is a calm peacemaker, and gets along with everyone. I think it's interesting, that he married someone who has the same personality traits that he has.

The wind is howling this morning, and I assume the humidity is still low.  I haven't looked at the weather news yet, so don't know about any fires that started up during the night?  My outside thermometer says 68, which is nice and cool.

Mary Ann

Marilyn, Tom is a very good person.  He tries to help everyone and I accuse him of burning his candle at both ends.  He helps me a lot and I try to not make things too hard for him.  His finances are usually low and as an example, we are going out to lunch today (he tries to get me out of the house at least once a week) and I give him $20 which pays for most of our lunch.  He usually asks me to choose and I think we will go to the deli at Cannonsburg (about 10 miles from here).

I can't begin to explain our relationship since he was born.  I have always heard that middle children were different, not in a bad way.  I am happy for you that Brad found a wife who is similar to him; it helps!

God afternoon, middle 70's and cloudy

Joy good to see you posting.

Larry, went to my regular visit to the hematologist thought I was all set and I had to get the shot was my blood count has gone down again. Two weeks ago I had that iron infusion, and was told how good I would feel. ha!, do not feel any different. I like watching Tiger, but I would like to see Rickie win. Last year I did not not think I would be using the rollator, but this year I use it when I go out. I still go grocery and Target shopping. that is my exercise, I go up and down a few ilses and the set down.
To day is Homemakers, but had 3 calls telling me the elevator was out of order. So disappointed, as I was all dressed and ready to go. I never could have done 2 flights of stairs. I hope it is fixed by next week as I am teaching a class

Good morning from a steady, relentlessly raining Interior. Nothing new here today. Farrah's fed, I've had coffee and already begun procrastinating on what chores I've been avoiding!

Larry, Alan is a type A personality which is why his business bloomed. Now after retirement, his focus has shifted to his cats. Dora is also that type but not as determined. They both know how to go about getting what they want out of life, and while I love them, they can be relentless at times. I'm sure my introverted style confounds them at times as well.

I am the middle child with one sister two years older and one sister, a menopause baby, ten years younger. By the time my younger sister was eight, my older sister and I had married and left home. So she was both a younger and a single for a while as both of us older ones were out of state for several years.

My older sister was outspoken and my younger sister accomplished more. I was neither.

Mary Ann

Tom and I just returned from the Grist Mill Deli in Cannonsburg where I had a turkey sandwich on rye and Tom had a ham sandwich on whole wheat.  Tom always takes the scenic roads home, something he learned from Norm but I have to say Norm learned that from Dad because we often took a Sunday ride over many of the same roads we travel today.

I picked up the mail and discovered one piece was for my neighbor, so I put it between her doors.

It is a lovely day so far, not much change from this morning.

Norm probably was the more outgoing of us two, probably taking after our mother and I am more like Dad

UPDATE:  Candy changed primary doctors and saw the new one this afternoon.  From the memos on the computer this new Dr. told her that the tests showed she has cysts around her pancreas.  NOW if this new Dr. can see this why did the other 4 doctors not tell her??  Makes one wonder, does it not?

Oh Joan - I'm so glad that Candy has an answer to her problem.  I can imagine that you both are so upset that the original doctor who ordered the tests, didn't give her the results!  I thought that doctors were legally obligated to explain all tests and procedures to their patients?  What's the next step in her treatment?

To be honest, answering more than basic questions and going beyond minimal procedures depends on your insurance and your cash flow.

Marilyne, This new Dr. gave her some ointments to put on her sores, and ordered a Prescription that Candy still has to go pick up.  Candy and her sister have a problem with cysts, they always have.  There is a name but I cannot remember it.  Anyway we are both relieved to finally get these results of the tests.

Joan, bravo to Candy for changing doctors and getting an answer to her problem.  I hope things go forward from here from now on.
