Just watched one boat go into Two Harbors.  Another one is already there.

Also caught a cruise ship in New York harbor as it went past The Harbor House camera toward the big bridge after going near the Statue of Liberty.  It was the "Norwegian Escape";  I've seen it before.
Map said its destination is Portland.  Would that be Portland Maine?

Now the camera is focused on a cruise ship to the right of the tip of Manhattan.  Looks like it isn't moving but not moored to a pier.  There was a similar one in the same place yesterday.
This ship is now moving.  Looks as if it's leaving and will be out in the harbor eventually; it's moving very slowly.

It's the Queen Mary!!!!!
.

Sandy

I bet that is going to Portland Maine.    This time of the year we have many many ships come in  (Foliage Tours)...

Soon it will be too cold for the big ship tours.

Sandy,  you may have noticed I modified my post while you were posting.  To clarify:  The Norwegian Escape is going to Portland - not the Queen Mary.  "She" is going to England.

Sandy

I know...  If the queen Mary
comes here,  I will be there to say Hello!!!

Marilyne

Callie, sorry 'I missed the Queen Mary, and also the Norwegian Escape. Do you know if there's a schedule listing for the cruise ships and ocean liners?  I'd love to know the schedule for the QM?  I wonder if she goes back and forth, on a continuous basis, or only a few times during the year?

Lindancer

Marilyne, I thin the QM goes out on a regular schedule, as I saw her go out a few weeks ago Quite a sight

Click for Riverhead, NY Forecast

CallieOK

I actually caught the QM coming in a week or so ago - maybe longer than that.  She goes up the channel  (East River??) to the right of the tip of Manhattan  -  not the one where the other cruise ships are docked  (Hudson River).

Marilyne,  the NY harbor cams don't have a list like the Duluth cams do.  On the PTZtv cams  (NYHarbor and NYPort)  you can click on a "Marine Traffic/Twitter link below the videos and see a chart of where ships are in the harbor and rivers.   The larger or longer arrows or circles are the bigger ships. Smaller ones may be anything from an NYPD boat to a ferry.

On my pc I can put the mouse arrow over the arrow or circle and see the name of the ship and its destination.
On my tablet,  I have to tap the arrow or circle with my stylus and then a small pop-up gives the name of the vessel and a picture - but no info on destination.

I'm nosy curious  ;)  and just played around with it until I figured out approximately where things are.

The Earthcams don't have this feature.

TMI ?   Sorry 'bout that.  :)

Mary Ann

Marilyn, why don't you put Queen Mary in a Search and you might find some info about their voyages.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Callie - I found the Marine Traffic link, and then spent a lot of time, clicking on the various arrows and circles, to see the names, and different types of vessels, etc. There is a Marine Traffic cam on Lake Michigan & Lake Superior also, so you can locate a favorite boat, and follow it around.  It doesn't take much to entertain us anymore, does it? ha ha ;D

Mary Ann - I tried to find a schedule of the QM2 online, but couldn't find one.  However, I did find some interesting web sites with information on the cruises and on the ship itself.  Here is a good one >>> https://www.cunard.com/cruise-ships/queen-mary-2/

Joy

Good morning.   An early visit for me this morning.  Have been awake since about 4 and finally got up about 5.   I have had my breakfast and catching up here.  Very foggy morning here in my area.

I have my last visit from the OT later today.  Then, hopefully,  next week will be the end of the PT and nurse visits.  They have all done a good job getting me back to being on my own.

I am getting my hair done this morning, which I really need.   Last week, I couldn't fit it in with my PT and OT visits,

Today is a holiday, and there will be no mail delivery.  I had completely forgotten about the Columbus Day holiday.    The actual Columbus day,  Oct. 12 is my youngest son's birthday.   Hard to forget birthdays when they happen to be on a special day.

I have noticed that some of the webcams have changed their home pages. It seems I have lost several of the ones that I used to go to.   I will have to spend some time looking them back up again.  I have several that I used to go to around the Baltimore area, and they have changed.

Hope everyone will have a great day,

Joy

Hi Everyone.   It is another clear morning on this Columbus Day here in the USA with the temperatures to stay in the low 80's and isolated Thundershowers this afternoon.  This looks like it could be a pretty wet week here in South Carolina as the projected path of the new Gulf hurricane is expected to come across our whole State.  Yesterday I came home to pick up Pat for Church to find only that her back was hurting her and she decided to stay at home.  She had sent me a text but I hadn't checked it as when I left about an hour earlier she had planned to go.  We did have a very nice blended service and once again nice to be in a congregation of 4 to 5 hundred people.  Then I stopped at Firehouse Subs to get a small sub for me and I waited and waited but wasn't too surprised as I had never seen so many people there ahead of me.  Finally, the shift leader announced they were sorry for the wait but they had a lot of order backed up and were short of staff and if anyone wanted a refund they would gladly return our money.  I did get a refund as they hadn't even started on my order and then stopped at Bogangles to get the chicken nuggets that Pat had wanted and a grilled chicken sandwich for myself along with a side of their coleslaw for each of us.

Sandy, sounds like you have things prepared for winter.  Do you have some fall art shows and festivals coming up in Portland this fall?

Patricia, I have never had UPS pick up anything here at the house.  They did deliver a couple of packages yesterday from an Amazon order.  I wonder how many cats don't like catnip?  I had thought that all cats were attracted to it but I know that Farrah marches to her own drummer.  Come to think about it I guess all cats do that as well.  Enjoy the early snow fall.  It will be a long while before we see any snow here this winter, if at all.  Last winter I remember only one skiff type snow that showed on the grass but not the streets and walks as they were warm enough to immediately melt it.  While our fall and spring seasons usually don't last too long they are definite seasons.

Marilyne, I find I can't keep the names of the hurricanes and other back storms and earthquakes in mind.  Was your house damaged in that 1989 earthquake in your area?  Did all of your breakable items in your china cabinet break? I understood what you met about walking to the mailbox going diagonally.  I used to do that to mow some banks on the edge of my yard in Missouri and we did that on the farm as well with any steep area that had to be mowed.

Mary Ann, on our last trip to Colorado we took a dinner train up the canyon to the Royal Gorge bridge area.  They had an open observation car back of the dinner car and we were able to go out and observe from their.  Some of the trip the canyon was so narrow that all you could see from the windows were sheer rock.  However, it was a fun experience.  I agree that you can find beauty in about any place in the world although you probably have to work harder to find it in the vast deserts.

deAngel, my mother always did spring and fall housecleaning but we lived in the country before A/C and on a dirt road.  The windows had to be open in the warmer weather so it was certainly needed not that she wasn't a good housekeeper throughout the year.

Joy, it really makes a long morning when a person gets up at 5 am and especially since it is dark for a couple more hours.  Glad you are doing so well in your rehab and will soon be able to do without the added help.  As I recall the day to celebrate Columbus Day was moved to a Monday to accommodate a three day weekend.  How old will your youngest son be on his birthday?

Marilyn, from the link you gave, go toward the bottom to Destinations.  There are three cities - San Fran, Ft Lauderdale and New York.  Click on one of those cities and it shows the dates for sailing.

We have a small world this morning and clicking on Grand Haven shows a lot of nothing.  Yesterday was a chilly day but I think today is to be warmer.

Thanks Mary Ann. That site worked. I am on iPad so will then put it over to desktop later. Rather watch it on there . Large screen.
Going to be 83 deg. Here today after a stormy week end. Tornado 12miles of me . Down to 50  starting wed. Crazy weather. But some northwest now had snow. Not ready for that.

Joy - I followed your example this morning!  Woke up a 5:00, and tossed around until I finally gave up and got up at 6:00.  I didn't accomplish anything, except to drink too much coffee, and answer a couple of emails.  The only good thing about waking up early, is that it will guarantee a good sleep tonight.  I'm glad you're feeling well enough now, to be finished with your OT and PT visits.  I hope your day continues on to be a good one.

Mary Ann- I did look at the "Destinations" at the bottom of the QM link, and found the information I was looking for.  It looks like there is a crossing from NYC to England, and back, approximately once a month.  I didn't look beyond this year, so don't know if they continue on through the Winter or not?

Right now, I have to get organized and ready to go to the laundromat.  I need to wash some blankets, in preparation for the upcoming cold weather.  I'll return later.

It is a cloudy day with rain forecast and it is cold.  Bah Humbug.  LOL

Good morning from a frosty but still no sign of snow, Interior! There has been snow reported in Colorado, some other northern states, as well in Alberta Canada. We have none reported in the state as yet.

Nothing new here, same weather expected this week as we had last week. It has been a beautiful crisp Autumn after the rainy summer past. Farrah has fresh food and water and is presently engaged in growly zoomies.

Larry, I thought about a third of cats are indifferent to catnip as well as most kittens, so I Googled. "The catnip response is hereditary. It is estimated that about 1/3 of the cats lack this gene. Additionally, kittens less than three months old don't respond to catnip and often even show an aversion. With many kittens, the response doesn't even occur until they're almost six months old."

Another issue people may not be aware of is that the spider plant has the same drugging effect on cats as catnip. That is why so many cats will destroy spider plants and the owners, unknowingly, punish the cat. Farrah was six years last month, and she no longer shows that much interest in toys. However, she still likes her makeshift dens and rubdowns and playtime with me. She is about 45 in human years, and you can see more white instead of orange in parts of her coat.

Larry, UPS package pickup comes here if arranged with the company, in my case, Amazon. I still have one or two copies of paperwork to complete and mail in that I had forgotten about so hopefully afterward; I can now relax.

Hi Everyone.  It looks like we are in for a cloudy 84 degree day with chances of more rain later today.  I checked the radar map this morning from our local TV station and it shows the Hurricane path veering off just a ways to the South of where I live.  However, we do expect some heavy rain as of last nights forecast and some winds.  Each day the picture changes a bit and now it is predicted to start affecting this area late tomorrow afternoon or evening.  It sure looks like it is going to be another bad Hurricane for the Gulf coast but weakening as it makes it way up toward the East Coast.  My main accomplishment for yesterday was to complete the Indexing of the recipes and links to recipes and helpful information for the two cooking discussions in the Homemaking folder.  It was a major job and required a lot of hours and careful attention to detail.  Today I plan on taking it easy but will be meeting with my friend for an hour this morning here at the house.

Mary Ann, I think I will be putting my summer shirts away later this week as we are going to start having cooler weather and I am pretty cold natured.

JeanneP, it looks like Fall is definitely here for a lot of the country with very cool evenings and then warmer weather during the days.  It is hard for me to think about places already having snow.

Marilyne, when we last replaced our washing machine Pat wanted one with a very large capacity that would handle blankets and comforters.  It is so deep that it is sometimes difficult to get small things from the bottom.  The dryer also handles larger items.

Patricia, thanks for the information on cats and catnip.  I obviously didn't have my facts right.  Our cat did like it and that was the only one we ever had in our married life.  I have no idea whether the farm cats liked it or not as they were outside cats.  I think I could get the UPS package pickup here as well and will use it if something I have to return to Amazon is too large for me to take to the package facility downtown.

Marilyne

Same old weather here . . . hot and smoky.  October is our worst month for wildfires,
and they are starting up once again. We had a small brush fire over the weekend near us here in the Santa Cruz mountains.  Fortunately, no wind, so it didn't spread like so many of them do.

Patricia and Mary Ann - Winnie loved catnip, and he did go slightly crazy when I would give him some. He was a tabby, and I know Kendrick is also a tabby, so maybe that has something to do with it?  My daughter and granddaughter's cat is a black and white tuxedo, and he has no interest in catnip whatsoever.  He also doesn't like to scratch or sit on the corrugated cardboard scratchers, but Winnie loved those.

Larry - I noticed at the laundromat yesterday that there was a row of machines that all had a sign of them >> "No comforters or sleeping bags". However there were larger machines that said "Comforters and sleeping bags okay"!  All the machines there there are front loading style.  My old relic here is about 25 years old, and is a top loader. It's a heavy duty washer, but it's worn out, and prone to problems . . . so anything heavy or large, I do at the launderette.  It's only a few blocks from my house, so is convenient.

Time for another cup and coffee, and then will start the day.  Hope you all have a nice one.

Sandy

I have never noticed Kendrick going crazy after having some catnip, but he sure goes crazy if it's in the vicinity and he smells it.  He must be downstairs because I haven't seen him for a while.

Yesterday I got up to get something and as usual took off my computer glasses and put on my regular ones.  When I came back to the computer, I could not find those glasses.  I retraced my steps several times.  Using my regular glasses does not work too well.  Not only that, I could not find my second pair of computer glasses.  I'll bet it was two or three hours later that I did find the glasses I had been using but I had moved something over them.  That was a lost morning.

This morning I was able to watch the Edwin Gott go through the Soo.  It was foggy up there and I could not see the bridge from the US to Canada.  As the ship was going very slow, the fog got worse and worse.  I could still see the ship when it disappeared, but it was mighty faint.

We are to hit 82 degrees today and it is almost 80 now at 12:30.  The sun is shining brightly and I hope everyone is having as nice a day.

Kendrick noticed someone coming up the walk a few minutes ago.  It was a woman delivering a package.  Kendrick ducked under the davenport - and he's still there.  One of his hiding places.

Larry, it looks like Michael is headed in your direction.  And how about Jean in Niceville.  Are you in Michael's path too?  Both of you, stay safe!

I wonder if Johann and Windell are back home in Myrtle Beach yet.

Mary Ann

Good morning from the still snowless, bright and beautiful Interior. We're having a lovely autumn month after the past rainy summer! Nothing new here, It is just after nine AM, and everyone is fed, showered, bed made and dishes washed, so I'm here on the computer.

Larry, I don't think it's breed but gene related. Farrah is a gray mackerel tabby mix and doesn't care for catnip. She does go crazy over her cat grass and would love to get to my bamboo or money tree or monkey plant. I keep those high on the sixth shelf and have file boxes bracketing them. She made several attempts to scale the shelves when I first had the plants and still occasionally attempts it. Regardless of genetics, cats are individuals just as every other being is.

I'm reminded of that each time I watch the newest fosters at Purrfect Pals. The mother is a very vocal large, polydactyl dark gray tabby. She has six toes on her right front paw and seven on the front left. She initially growled at anyone who came close to her kittens unless they sat down or crawled. She's still very protective. One of the gray tabby kittens, also polydactyl died of a diaphragmatic hernia at three weeks, but the other three seem healthy. At four and a half weeks, they're at that attempting to walk but still finding it hard to navigate stage.

What is stumping many of the commentators is the two lilac point Siamese kittens and their dark gray tabby brother. So many think either mom swiped the two Siamese kittens from another feral or someone placed them with her. No matter how many times it is said that the mother is the genetic mom, people still come up with wild theories of how they got there.

Angel, could you share the link of that live camera please? I lost it. Thanks

Just getting here a little late today.

I did have a visit from the PT and she told me that Friday would be her last visit.  And, next week will be the last visit from the nurse, I think.  I feel like I am pretty much back to how I was before I got sick.   I do feel so much better and can really see where my energy has gotten so much better.

I, too, am thinking about Jean in Florida.  It looks like the hurricane is sure heading in her direction.  Maybe not directly, but I am sure they will get the rain and wind associated with it.  It looks like Niceville is right along the water.

I want to go down to get my mail and since it looks so nice out, I might sit out for a little while, if others are out.

Sandy, so glad that you were able to go shopping and got along well with the new rollator.  I know you will enjoy it more and more each time you use it.  It sure does help that you are able to sit down if you get a little tired.  Today, with the PT,  I was able to go up and down my hallway without having to stop and rest.  But, after I went up and down again, I did sit for a little while.   It does make it nice that you can carry things on it, also.

Have a good rest of the day.

Joy, I looked up Niceville on the Florida map and it is to the west of Pensacola, and not on the water.  The brunt of the storm is to hit east of Pensacola, however, to the west, including Niceville, they show wind and high water, maybe high surf.  I'm watching a briefing by the Florida governor now and it is interesting to watch the person using sign language, of which I know nothing about.

I'm glad you're doing so well after your illness.  I learned my lesson - take my pills!!  That was the reason I was so tired.

I see a boat going out of the channel at Grand Haven and some people are on the beach.  I could not see if anyone was in the water.  It is hard to see with leaves still on the trees and being in the middle of the week people are working and kids are in school.

Camera info:

Mama Seraphina & her 4 kittens (3 boys, 1 girl) were transferred up from a shelter in Lewis County, WA to the Seattle Humane and then to Purrfect Pals. Seraphina is 1.5 years old and 9#. Estimated birthday is September 7th, 2018.

Tabby boy: Niffler
Meezer boy: Billywig
Meezer girl: Occamy
Fwooper: Tabby polydactyl. Two extra claws on front paws, one extra on the back, just like Seraphina. Unfortunately, he developed severe breathing issues sometime an hour after arrival which was caused by a diaphragmatic hernia - the only option we had was to help him cross peacefully. Mary Ann,   Niceville is on a Bayou of the Chocawhatchee River and  I did read where there were evacuation centers open for that area.

Hopefully, they are in a area that is higher and won't need to evacuate.

We lived in an area back in the 70's when Hurricane Agnes hit the east coast and we were evacuated because of a large stream behind our house that was overflowing.     Looked down my basement steps and there was about 3 feet if water and my washer and dryer were floating.  Luckily, the only problem we had was things in the basement.   Kind of scary at the time.

Mary Ann, My grandson called 3rd call, he was packing a suite case to take back tp work, as the staff is staying at the hospital.  I wish I would hear  that my DIL was going to going to the AFB. She has a lot of big pine trees in her yard. She lives in Niceville. in a place called Blue Water Bay. We use to go down when they started to build the bridge to Desten before you had to drive around to get there.  FlsJean lives in the same development. My son bought there over 25 years ago, there were no  big hotels on the beach then

I think I live in an area that is immune to high water, however, in 1986 it rained every day in September and probably a few days before and after.  I live on a pond and if the water had come up a foot more, it would have been at the edge of my patio.  Our pump house is at the edge of the pond and water was half way up the side of the small building and the electric meter was under water.  Since, the building has been remodeled and another building was put on top where things should be safe from flooding.  The sprinkler pump motors were flooded the first few years but the motors are now in the upper part of the pump house.  We do have rains where the lower part of the door to the lower building is in the water, but for the most part, the important things are safe.  Our rains are nothing compared to hurricanes, but if something is under water, it gets about as wet.
