I remember Purple Sage and Marjory and of course Sasha! At one time, way back when, I was sponsoring a cat for Sasha. I initially met them on Third Age, another message board that unfortunately had the same abrupt ending as SeniorNet.

I signed up back then for the Don't Call list but I've long had a habit of letting calls go to messages and before that my answering machine, so I just delete. For a while, I've gotten text adverts, but if you delete as a group rather than clicking on each one, you aren't charged for them.

I'm rude when I do accidentally answer an advertising call in that I immediately hang up; I don't engage. When people had access to my door, religious, sales or other nuisance visitors, I just shut the door. If the door had a peephole, I didn't open it. I feel no obligation to spend my time with what is essentially a waste.

Mary Ann

Thanks, MarsGal, I checked for my DoNotCall information and I'll check my e-mail in a few minutes.  I did register only once and did not renew it after three years.  I think the only calls I get now are political and charity - timing, of course.  With Christmas coming up I will receive charity calls after the election and political calls.

Patricia, I'll put that link in the Pet folder.  I put it here because of the posts about the cats we've had recently.

Marilyn, the Pet folder is for PETS, both cats and dogs and whatever else a person may have as a pet - even a snake or mongoose!!!  JaneS has posted about her two Scotties, however, not often.  Amy only posts in Soda Shoppe so we don't hear from her otherwise.  I can't think of anyone else who has a dog.

I just looked at the structure I saw earlier and it now is in the Bayfront cam and i have decided it is there for Christmas and will be their Christmas tree.

Callie, I have been watching a small cruise ship in dock, I have always seen them underway, I would live to watch one leave or arrive.  I would like to watch the docking progress. ,I also have been on the ship, but I was to busy looking at the skyline. I also was on the ship. when a helicopter had to take a person off, as they were having a heart attack, and she happen to be with our group. we had just got beyond the V Bridge

Lindancer,  I've been watching the New York Harbor cams and saw Anthem of the Seas leave where it was docked and go under the...I think...Versailles Bridge (or something like that).  Found it on the map below the videos and finally know that pier is in Bayonne New Jersey.  I had never been able to figure that out.

I can just imagine watching the skyline from the ship.  The only cruise I've been on was from Vancouver to Skagway, Alaska.  Never could get a good view of the scenery we cruised by because the passengers were mostly couples and the husbands always made sure their wives had a place at the rail.  I was with another widow and, obviously, nobody cared if we had a good view or not.

Last time I looked, there were three cruise ships docked at Pier 8 - up by 43rd street.   They've been there since yesterday and I'm wondering if they're having maintenance done.

5:20 p.m. New York time:  went to get the mail and came back to find the Disney Magic is "cruisin' down the river" (la la la  ;) )

Good Sunday morning.

A real chilly morning here on the east coast.  I guess we are just going to have to begin to realize  that winter is on the way.  I just hate to think about it getting cold.  Seems like we only just were having summer.

I am up early and have had breakfast.  I need to decide just what I am going to do today.  Sunday's are always very quiet around here.  Seems like people just disappear over the weekend.

I am planning on doing some laundry later today.  The laundry room isn't usually busy on Sunday.  That is one job that I keep putting off.

I did go look at the picture that BUbble posted for Gloria de.   Wonderful picture of Gloria and her late husband.  A good looking couple.

I hope everyone will have a nice Sunday.

Hi Everyone. It looks like it will be another very pleasant day getting up to around 80 degrees late this afternoon.  It is in the 50's right now.  I am ready for Sunday School and Church and have everything laid out to fix Pat's breakfast when she arises in a few minutes.  As of now I expect she will want me to come home and get her for Church.  We will then go out to eat somewhere.  I will rest when we get home and then watch some more pro football games from the comfort of my easy chair.

Yesterday afternoon we went to Texas Roadhouse for our main meal.  It was the first time Pat had gone to a restaurant using her Rollator and it worked well.  When we got to the table I folded it up and set it at the end of the table.  Fortunately, the isles were wide.  I did go to my meeting yesterday morning and then stopped at Aldi's as planned.  Unfortunately, neither South Carolina nor Georgia won their college football games yesterday.

There are a lot of postings since I posted fairly early yesterday morning.  Since I have limited time available this morning I will not attempt to reply to everyone, although each of you are equally important to me, but will try to keep comments brief.

Mary Ann, interesting info on the ferry situation prior to 1957.  I see that MarsGal gave you the info on the current situation with the "Do Not Call" list.

Mary, I haven't heard anything about "Sergio" here.  It sounds like you all are getting deluged with rain and will need to keep your umbrellas handy for a couple more days.  I am.  Check out this length for some info on fiber optic cable services.

Patricia, coconut macaroons sounds like a nice prize to win.  I bet those pretzel candies make with the Rolo chocolate caramels mentioned in the recipe discussions would be a popular gift and one easy to make.  I can see why you would be afraid to take a flu shot.

angelface555

Good morning from the Interior, same weather, same routine!

I went with Dora to a friend's house last night to play different types of bunko and she served tapas. All and all an enjoyable evening!

Larry, I'll take your recipe idea under advisement, sounds good! A big hit at that earlier game of cards was double dipped Oreos and the competition was brutal with a side of laughs. But I swear my teeth hurt just looking at them!

FlaJean

Patricia, I always enjoy your “thought for today”.  Today’s thought is meaningful to me as are most of them.

The weather is very nice here in northwest Florida.  The awful hurricane even impacted Larry’s niece in Virginia.  They had a power outage for a couple of days from downed trees.  Many people have lost everything.  Larry and I feel very fortunate.

Hope everyone is having a nice Sunday.

angelface555

Thanks, Jean! There are just many quotes that seem to resonate with me that I need to pass them along.

I am so sorry for the loss of life and the damages from the back to back hurricanes. I have to admit that I was shocked to hear people interviewed in Mexico Beach Florida, talking about rebuilding.

Climate scientists are now explaining why there will be more and deadlier storms due to warmer seas;

Gloria, what a wonderful picture of you and your husband.  With smiles like you have in the picture, you can look at now, smile and reminisce about all of the happy days you had.

Sato, what a lovely rose.

I slept in this morning so did not get on the computer before Dot and I went to church.  Afterward, of course, we did our "thing" at the Cholesterol Pit (Mr Burger).  It was crowded today so things took a bit longer.  After I got home, the sun was shining on my laptop monitor so I watched some golf and when I could look at the computer, I watched a couple of ships - one in Duluth and the other at the Soo.  Finally I could browse and Patricia had posted a link to a cat story and that led to watching more videos - and here I am at 5:00 pm really just getting started at the computer.

MARILYN - Paul is waiting to go through the Soo right now.  He is headed for Detroit.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Gloria de - What a beautiful photo of you and your husband!   You are certainly a good looking couple.  I'll bet that your sons were very handsome men.

Joy - I'm always excited when one season ends, and a new one arrives . . . but then I quickly get tired of the new season, and start looking forward to the next one. Right now, Winter sounds good to me, after our long, hot summer, and all the wildfires we had here.  I love Thanksgiving and Christmas, with all the decorations and excitement, but once the holidays are over, I realize we are facing three months of bleak, cold weather.  Then I'm done with Winter, and looking forward to Spring!

Mary Ann - I missed Paul at the Soo today, but I have seen him arriving or leaving there a few times in the past.  I notice that Paul's destination is always St. Clair. The same with many of the other boats.  I know it's in Michigan, but I haven't been able to locate it on my map?  I'm wondering why most of the boats go there?

Larry - AJ was happy on Saturday, when LSU beat Georgia! :cheer: Our granddaughter graduated from LSU in 2017, and during the four years that she was there, he became a real fan, and probably will continue to follow them. It looks like they're going to have a  winning team this year.

Callie - I enjoy watching the NYC Harbor on Saturdays, but I missed the cruise ship  "show" yesterday.  A friend came over, and we spent most of the afternoon talking, and ended up at the neighborhood Starbuck's.  Sounds like it was a good day for a variety of ships.  I'll try to catch up next week.

Joan - We haven't heard from you in a number of days?  I hope you're okay, and that Candy is feeling better?

Mary Ann

Marilyn, St Clair is on the east side of Michigan, north of Detroit.  There is a Lake St Clair, the small lake between the Detroit River and Lake Huron.  My deceased nephew, Tim, had a boat and I think his marina was on Lake St Clair.

Yes, Joan, where are you?  Is everything OK with you and Candy?

Because he's going to be gone all day, Tom is taking me to breakfast this morning.  I have no idea where we will go - probably Cheers.  I have a million things to do but I'll be surprised if any of them gets done.

I saw a ship go through the Soo before I went to bed last night; I'm trying to remember the name, but even though it was quite large, it is classified as a tug.  It seems to be snowing in the UP also at Duluth.  It's too dark to see white, but there may be some at daylight.

Hi Everyone. Our summer weather is returning for a couple of days as we expect to get into the mid-80's this afternoon.  However, it is nice and in the low 60's this morning but it soon warms up.  I expect to have a quiet Monday at home with nothing special on the agenda.  Pat did join me for Church yesterday and then we went out to the Sunshine Grill for our lunch.  She did use her Rollator for the first time for going into the Church service and then again when we got to the restaurant.

Patricia, it has been many years now but for several New Year's Eves a group from our Church at the time met in one of the member's homes and played Bunco until midnight and had munchies.  It was a mindless game that we played but was still a lot of fun and we always had a good time.  What were the Oreos dipped in?  I agree those cookies are rich enough without more sweetness added.  I am not sure what a tapa is as have never had them.

Jean, sure glad you escaped the ravages of the Hurricane.  I have to wonder if the Tinsdale AFB will be rebuilt.  I read this morning that they had 100% damage.  Trees going down is usually the cause of the many power outages.  I miss the shade the trees provide but sure do not miss having to have any worries about one falling on my home as we have no big trees around us.

Mary Ann, it sounds like you had a very pleasant Sunday.  Glad you and Dot were able to go to Church and then eat out at your regular place.

Marilyne, I guess we always hope the next season will be a good one for us.  I was disappointed in the Georgia game.  Having lived fairly close to Athens, where the University of Georgia is located, for thirty years and having most of my friends avid Georgia fans I became a fan of that school.  After moving to South Carolina I still am not too far from Athens and probably about an equal distance to the University of South Carolina so now follow both teams and hope they win.  Neither one had a winning Saturday.  It is amazing how many people attend the football games.

Tom took me out to breakfast this morning because he expects to be gone all day.  That means I find my own lunch and supper.  He often is gone for one or the other or both anyway.  Usually when we eat out I give him $20 and he pays anything over that - if there is something over that!

Between the two of us we are getting family pictures together and I hope to get started with it sooner rather than later.  The only picture left to take is of Tom, Dot and me together and Tom can take a "selfie".  Tom has a good picture of Tim's daughter and family that I hope to use instead of only the granddaughter alone.

It is a rainy, raw fall day and I know the only time I go outside will be to get the mail.  Maybe by that time, the rain will have stopped.  I know - it could be pouring down rain by that time, maybe even snow.  Awful thought.

It is raining at Grand Haven with lots of whitecaps.

May everyone's day be a good one.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Mary Ann, I looked at Joan's Facebook page, and see that she hasn't posted anything there either. I sent her an FB message, so I hope she gets it, and will let us know what's happening.  Looks like you'll be alone all day, but as you said, there's always plenty to do.

I haven't got much to say this morning, except that the temperature dropped to 47 here last night, and I woke up feeling cold.  I guess I'll have to find the comforter, and hang it outside on my old clothesline today, to air it out for a while before putting it on the bed.

I wrote a long message here late last night, and said hello to everyone who posts here, (except for Patricia), so I don't have much to say this morning. Patricia, I'll take a look at the Kitten webcam, and leave you a message in Pets.

She had interesting views for her time

Good morning from a still the same, snowless, Interior.  Farrah is doing more talking and attempting to direct me, she is probably bored with less window traffic

Last night, I was again trapped in an elevator for a few moments. I went back in after checking my mail, pushed the button for my floor and it stopped at the floor below. After a moment it went back to first but the door wouldn't open. So I pushed the alarm button. Nothing happened, so I attempted the door open button which finally opened. It wasn't caused by a brownout and no one at security was aware of my problem. Let me tell you, walking up those stairs to my apartment was worse than being trapped. I think I'll still use the stairs for a bit, however!

Bubble, an interesting, committed but odd woman!

Mary Ann

Bubble, I have never heard of Voltairine de Cleyre but I noticed she was in Grand Rapids much before I was.  I've read several Grand Rapids histories and I don't recall that she was mentioned, probably because of her history.  Grand Rapids is not as conservative as it used to be, but it was very much so in the past.  Tha probably was much because of the religious makeup of town.  One of our past ministers said he was told that GR was 40% Dutch, 40% Polish and 20% everything else.  We fell in the 20% category.  Now, of course, we are a duke's mixture and I don't even know how many denominations are here.  Many of the new religions have names that do not tell their denomination.

I read part of the article, but not all of it.

I haven't done much today except read things on the computer.  I saw something about the death of The Pioneer Woman's MIL and wanted to see what the article said.  I had heard about her death some time ago but never looked for any info.  I was looking for something else when I saw the reference and I got into a lot of reading about the family.  I haven't watched the program for some time because I was seeing the same program three times in two weeks and that was a bit much.

It is quite sunny here today but on the cool side.  I think the temp is 48 degrees.  It's not raining at Grand Haven now but there still are a lot of whitecaps.

Hi Everyone. This is suppose to be the last day we are in the 80's, at least for a few days.  We also have a 50% chance of afternoon showers.  This is going to be a busy morning.  The kitchen choirs have been done and Pat's breakfast fixed for her.  In about an hour or so I will drive her down to to Church so she can help in the pricing of the items for the women's bazaar that will be held tomorrow.  I will come home and meet with my friend for an hour at 10 am and then go back down to the Church to get Pat and we will go to Chik-Fil-Lay for a good lunch.  I also contacted an individual to see about getting the outside of our home pressure washed and a repair done on the gate to our fence into the back yard.  He is suppose to call sometime today to set a time to come over and give me an estimate of the cost.  That will be it for today and that is plenty.

I just read a posting on Pat Scott Halbach's Facebook page saying she had headed back to the hospital yesterday with some type of problem with her hip.  She requested our prayers for her as she deals with the new problem.

Marilyne, I do hope we hear from Joan today and that she is OK.  We haven't gotten down into the 40's yet this fall but know it won't be long.  It has been many years since we had outside clothes lines.

Patricia, being trapped in an elevator is not something to be desired.  I ride our Church elevator in the building where I go to Sunday School, which is on a lower level than I normally park.  A few months ago several people got trapped in it on Sunday Morning but one of the men was finally able to get it pried open.  We have numerous people who rely on it and I don't think they could handle the steps.

Mary Ann, are you putting together a photo album of your family with actual printed photographs?  It sounds like you had a good day outside yesterday.

Mary Ann

#10402
When I got up at 5:30 this morning, the temperature was 36 degrees.  On another thermometer now it is 42 degrees so you can see where we're headed in the future.

No, Larry, I am not putting together an album, but I want to have a sheet of paper with pictures of everyone on it.  I would send that to the few relatives and friends who receive Christmas greetings from me and I possibly would have a half dozen printed on photo stock for the immediate family.  All of my relatives are out-of-state and don't see any of us (and vice versa) and now that we have the youngest ones, I'd like to show them off.  I get a few pictures each year and I want to reciprocate.

We have an elevator at church too and if it is necessary to go to the lower level, I use it.  What I really need is a moving sidewalk!!!

I'm sorry to hear about Pat Halbach; I wonder if she is in Canada or Virginia.  I also hope we hear from Joan because it has been several days.  Thanks for the information about Pat.

Oh, my, I just looked at Grand Haven and the lake is mostly white with whitecaps and the trees are blowing in the wind.

Mary Ann

FlaJean

It is 81F degrees here and the sun is shining.  We had fog earlier but it is burned off.

Larry, you sound awful busy.  I hope you get enough rest.

Mary Ann, grand Haven is really rough today, but pretty nonetheless.  However, I wouldn’t want to be out in that wind.

Marilyne

Good morning to everyone.  I sent an email to Joan, as well as a message on Facebook.  I sent the Facebook one yesterday morning, and the regular email last night, and haven't heard back.  I hope she is okay, but she did mention a couple of months ago, that her kidneys were not functioning as they should. I'm hoping that we hear something from her today?

Mary Ann - Last night we went to Kirk's, for dinner.  I'm starting to call it, the West Coast cholesterol pit. :D I had my usual, an avocado and bacon burger, and AJ had a chili cheese burger.  We always split an order of fries, and just have water for our drink.

The weather is beautiful here, and supposed to go into the high 70's today.  October is a lovely month in California . . . cool nights and mornings, but then warming up in the afternoon. As long as the wind doesn't start blowing, we are okay, but if it kicks up again like last October, we're in for big trouble.  it's just so dry, that the slightest spark can spell disaster.  No measurable rain here since April 6th.

Mary Ann

#10405
Marilyn, I hope you hear from Joan some way or other.  I remember her writing that she had kidney problems.  What with Candy's problems, I hope Joan isn't having some of her own now.

Our temperature is around 50 degrees but the sun is shining beautifully (matches Jean's Florida weather) so it looks warmer out than it is.  I have two transitional coats; one is a raincoat and the other a lightweight coat.  Then I have my red down jacket for winter and while I like that coat, I'm not anxious to start wearing it.  I like fall because it is sweater weather.

I've been running off some bank statements so I can record certain expenses on a form I have on Excel.  It helps at tax time but I do use the figures from the banks and investment places.  I should do that every month, but I'm not that efficient.

Tom just left for lunch with a friend and I asked him to bring me back a hamburger.  Mine will not be as fancy as yours, Marilyn; it will either be a regular burger or a cheese burger.  Dot might like yours or AJ's because she often gets an olive burger.

Good morning from the same as last week, weatherwise Interior! No snow yet altho the roads in the morning and at night have a healthy sheen of ice. We received a special weather report yesterday that with rain last night and today falling on the ice to be extra careful while driving and to take extra, special care while driving in the foothills.

It is odd that early snow was forecast and while some states and Canada have snow, we do not. I remember just two years ago when you could use a tablespoon to shovel out your driveway, and we had more than one ice storm. I'm wondering if we're back to that.

I too hope to hear something from Joan as she hasn't posted from the sixth which is worrisome.

Larry, I have never had an elevator issue in my life, yet have had two just this year! Altho my first one was blamed on a brownout, no such explanation for the last one. There are two elevators in the middle of the two wings on each floor that are heavily used and seem to have current inspection notices. I don't know who hears the alarm button, but it is especially worrisome that onsite security heard or saw nothing.

It was eight forty-one in the evening when I got out, probably less than ten minutes total in the elevator and I wasn't concerned as it wasn't jerky, I just felt I had no control. And then when it settled on the first floor, it wouldn't open until I repeatedly pushed the open door button. After walking back up the stairs, I know I'm not in shape to do that regularly.

After a fall, more of a slip and grab actually; outside Alan and Dora's house, they convinced me to get a better MedicAlert than the one I have that just works on my floor. There is a person coming Thursday morning with a new one that works outside as well. I hate getting older. I need to find a stick with some type of bottom prong for this winter especially if it is icy. I want a longer pole I can use to balance.

I'm also looking into a housekeeper to do what I used to do so quickly. I 'm going to have to give up control and to depend on so much from others. It doesn't inspire happy thoughts.

Mary Ann

Patricia, I know how you feel about getting a housekeeper; I "think" about getting someone from a company but I'm reluctant to trust someone I don't know.  Annie has helped occasionally and we used to have Tom's friend, Mary, but she got a job so that ruled her out.  I've been known to dust but that is about all.  I have a mess in the computer room and I need help with it, but no help is forthcoming.  This has been going on for years.  I don't expect Tom to help, although he could on a weekend, but he has his own life to live - and does!  Norm's response would be to throw everything away and I think he would have regardless of what it was.  So here it sits.  As they say - getting old is not for sissies!

Good afternoon, I am starting to post one more time. Sun is trying to shine, we have had rain the last few days. Haven't felt like posting, as not sleeping go yo bed at 12 and wake up at 2AM. watch a lot of odd movies. Last night was the Cat from Out of Space Wayout but funny, so ws relaxing.

Patricia, we just got the elevator at Homemakers fixed after 3 weeks not working. That had to be scary for you, when know one heard the alarm.

Marilyne and everyone who said such kind things about our photo. Also another thanks to Bubble. By the way we were married 73 years Oct. 12th I put 72

I also join our friend hoping we hear soon from Joan.

Larry, I add hope you are taking care of yourself, you have been so busy lately

I don't think that I had gotten in here yesterday.  I had a kind of a "blah" day.  Just couldn't get myself together and had several good naps.

I spent the late morning waiting for the Physical Therapist to come to re-evaluate me and she was a little late.  Then, the nurse was also late getting here.  All was well, except the fact that the PT did do the re-evaluation, but has to come back on THurs. to write the discharge.  Not sure if  and when the nurse is coming back.  But, at least, I am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.  And, I must add, they all were very nice and pleasant and very helpful.  I got a lot of good help and lots of good suggestions for making things a lot easier.  Not, I just have to follow through and try to keep up with the exercises.

I am getting ready now to go downstairs to our library and take some things to give to the recreation girl.  So, that will get my walking in.

Sorry to read about Pat Halbach's current problem.  Hope she will have a quick recovery.

I, also, hope all is well with Joan and her daughter.  They have both had some rough times.

Gloria de, so glad you go to your Red Hat group

Mary Ann and Patricia,   I am, also, thinking about having someone come in every couple weeks to clean the bathroom and kitchen.  I do try to keep spills wiped up and wipe the  stove top and counters up.   I can still do the dusting and  the OT had me show her that I can also run the sweeper around good enough.

I need to get back to continue doing some of the decluttering that I had started before I got sick.   It came to a kind of stand-still right now.

I hope everyone will have a good evening.
