Good morning everyone again. Tomereader1, After the presidential election, MaryPage quit Seniors and Friends to focus on her family and herself. She sometimes emails but that is becoming rare.

Marilyne

Mary Ann, my mother passed away in 1975, so it's been 43 years.  I still think about her a lot, and wish so much that I could talk to her about family issues, and other things as well. I was more fortunate than you, in that I had my mom much longer.  I was 41 when she died, so I was married, and two of my three children do remember her. Sandy, my youngest was only five, and doesn't remember her at all. It must have been very hard on you to lose your mother when you were still so young. Hugs for you too.

Gloria - One year we had no children at all for Trick-or-Treat!  After that, we decided there were no more kids in the neighborhood, so we weren't prepared, when a few kids came the next year.  Then we decided to put big bowl of candy outside the downstairs door on a table, which we will do this year too.  I don't think people have their houses power washed around here?  I'm probably wrong, but I've never known anyone to have it done, nor have I seen it being done?

Joy - Im sure you had a nice lunch today with your dil?  After all those tests and Dr. appointment, you were probably ready for something pleasant.  I get stacks of catalogs too, and like you, I haven't heard of most of the companies that send them to me.  If they look interesting, I will sit down and thumb through them, but never order from a place I don't recognize.  I do like to look at the Christmas catalogs, and I'm tempted sometimes, but haven't ordered in a long time.  I like the Vermont Country Store catalog, but it sure is expensive!

Mary Ann

Tomereader, MaryPage chose to not post any more.  I have gotten an occasional e-mail from her about things she feels are important, some political, but not necessarily.  If you would like to contact her, I am sure if you send an e-mail to the address listed, she probably would respond.

I too miss her descriptions of things and now she most likely has been taking her peach geraniums from their cobalt blue pots and would tell us all about it.

Mary Ann

Joy

Marilyne,   My "Busy" day isn't until tomorrow.  But, by this time tomorrow , I should be home and have it all behind me.  These tests are not bad,, I just get a little antsy.  I don't particular feel comfortable going places by myself anymore.  Just afraid of falling, so I really am so careful.  I won't meet up with my DIL, until after the tests.  My son drops me off on his way to work.  And, it is an easy place to get into.  Then, she will be with me when I see my primary care doctor.  And, I am looking forward to getting some lunch.  I can't eat after midnight, and I usually take a little something to eat afterwards. But, I will still be ready for lunch.

MaryAnn,  You also know how descriptive Mary Page was.  She used to write some beautiful things.  And,  yes,  I hope she still was able to have her beautiful cobalt blue pots with the peach geraniums.

Good evening

Joy and Marilyne it is 7:30 and I have had about 20 children.  Everyone had a bought costume'
I remember most of the kids made their own.  The last time i think Dennis went as Johnny Appleseed
Last year I had 3, but they had a parade and movie for the kids

Mary Ann

Gloria, I don't think any kids came into our complex.  As I have mentioned, we are on the north side of a busy road and I think an apartment complex on the south side has many children living there, but most parents would rather they not come north.  We haven't had any kids in years and I didn't even get any treats this year because if it was candy, Tom and I would eat it and neither of us needs candy.

Tom went to Holland to visit his friend there and he is now napping prior to going driving at 10 pm.  He figures he might get people from Halloween parties, but being a working day, I think the parties would have been last weekend.  If he makes any money, it would be money he would not have gotten by not going, but sometimes it is not worth going out, even if he does make some money.

I'm not sure we had costumes but TrT was just coming in when I was too old for it.  We did go out on Halloween, however, it was to ring doorbells, soap windows or use a ratchet on a window or whatever mischief we could think of.

Good to know what happened to MaryPage. She stopped posting on SeniorLearn, too, where she spent much of her time in the Nonfiction and Women's Issues groups.

It was up to around 67o yesterday and is expected to get to 70o or above today. I've got a dental appointment this morning, but hope to do a little yard work this afternoon.

Vanilla-Jackie

Yes I remember Mary Page...Sad as it seems but so many who once were regular posters dont post anymore, I often wonder why...Such as Mahlia ( Molly ) who has the Egyptian hubby, and a son who she often referred to as CHAPS in the army...I often wonder how she is getting on...I would dearly be happy to hear that Mohamed is now retired from his schooling career and with her on a permanent basis...

I wonder who remembers posters, Ellie Mae and Aiea Gal...whatever happened to them...they just stopped posting one day.. :(

larryhanna

Hi Everyone. We are predicted to have a partly cloudy day with a high of 81 degrees.  This is going to be a long day as I woke up around 2:30 and was never able to go back to sleep.  About 5:30 I decided to get up and get my day started.  I will pick up my friend and we will go to coffee downtown this morning.  Then, as far as I know, we will go for our main meal around 1 pm at the Honey From the Rock Restaurant since we didn't go yesterday due to a change in plans.  Pat and I went to Chick-fil-A for a late meal around 4 pm yesterday.

Mary Ann, I expected the maintenance man to be here again yesterday to finish up a couple of things but he hadn't come by and so around 3:30 I called to let him know not to come yesterday as we were leaving and that today wouldn't been convenient either as he is likely going to have to take the front door off to work on where it is binding and I want to be here when he does.  My dad could fix about anything from carpentry to mechanical work on the the tractors and machinery as it seemed something was always in need of repair.  He had a well equipped shop with all the tools. I didn't end up with any of those skills.  I noticed that none of the houses on our end of the street had their porch light on last evening and heard no treat or treaters.  Our Church did not do the Truck or Treat this year as they have done in the past.

Carol, nice you will be able to see some of the cousins from Minnesota there in Arizona.  I remember you seem to get a lot of visitors each winter.  You mentioned family members dying on Halloween and Thanksgiving.  My wife's mother died on Christmas Eve and we had a houseful of company and little ones excited about Christmas.  My wife was able to deal with all of that.

Patricia, glad your humidity has lessened. A lot of your ice is probably not going to go away with your temperatures staying in the teens.  Don't you wonder what Farrah is chasing in her mind as she flits around? I liked your graphic.

Marilyne, we have so much humidity here in the South that mildew forms very easily and the houses need to be pressure washed every two or three years.  We had to do the same over in Georgia.  A cleaning solution is first sprayed on the house and then a pressure washer is used to rinse that off and that cleans the dirt and mildew that has adhered to the house.  Did your candy bowl go down last evening?

Tomereader, I also miss the postings that MaryPage used to leave for us and her descriptions of the Chesapeake Bay.

deAngel, I sure you were heart broken not to get that expensive shot--Not!  Where we go to Wife Saver's they have very good lemon meringue pie and it sold at a reasonable price.  I really have a problem buying desserts at $5 and $6.  I doubt that those items are big sellers. Getting up and answering the door for the little kids must be a challenge for you.

Joy, I am always amazed that my desk wastebasket can be full at least twice a week with the junk mail and catalogs.  I do not recycle as it is not required in our town although is encouraged.  I think I misunderstood as thought your tests were yesterday.  What I said yesterday still applies today.  Nice that you can do all of the testing in the same building.

MarsGal, I hope your dental appointment is just the routine one and not a particular problem.

Jackie, I hadn't thought of Molly for a long time and always enjoyed her postings.  I know she had serious health issues.   I don't remember the other two posters you mentioned.

Mary Ann

Jackie, I don't remember EllaMae and might if someone could refresh my memory, but I was asking about AieaGal recently without her name because I could not remember it.  I just looked at the Member List and she is not listed - and I do think you had her name spelled right.  She lived in Alabama.  Mollie is still listed and I think someone tried to contact her long ago but got no response.  There is nothing close to Ellie Mae listed; there are only 6 or 7 "E" shown.

Larry, I have the tools my dad had but the next generation had their own and I wonder if anyone would want the tools now.  It won't be my worry when I'm gone.  Dad's tools weren't elaborate, just the usual tools to fix things.

It's kind of overcast today but no rain; the rain on radar is in northern Indiana, going east!

I don't know what Kendrick is doing, but he's making a lot of noise.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Larry, thanks for the explanation as to why pressure washing a house, is done in the East, and not out here in the West.  I can understand that mold and mildew would cause some problems, and also be unsightly, if it got out of control.  Our humidity here in CA is normal, and usually lower than normal.  The past couple of days we have had temps in the 70's and 80's, with high winds from the N/E, that takes our humidity down to dangerous levels, which is why we have such fire danger.

We had more T-or-T'ers last night, than we have had in many years.  As I mentioned yesterday, we put a big bowl of candies out in front on a table, with a sign saying, Happy Halloween. (AJ went out and refilled the bowl once.)  We have a security camera out there, so later on we looked at the feed, and it was fun to see the kids run up the driveway and stand around the bowl and pick out what they wanted.  Then around 8:30, I went down stairs and got the empty bowl.  We saved a couple of peanut butter cups to eat today for a lunch treat, but everything else was gone.

FlaJean

Marilyne, after reading about you putting out a bowl of candy, I mentioned it to my husband and he thought it was a good idea.  We have so many kids come by.  We put a large tray of candy out on a little table with a sign Happy Halloween.  We added some candy once.  Our county has a rule here about treat or treating from 5 to 7.  So mostly the kids were all gone shortly after 7.  I did miss seeing all the cute costumes and last year we were surprised at how polite the kids were.

FRom MaryPage.
I mentioned to her that many of you inquired about her.
She wrote:
'I thank you for forwarding the messages to me.  I love them all, but just do not own the impetus to get back in there.
This  a picture of me with my brother David taken when he came down from New York (state, not the city) to visit with me in June.  He is 85 to my 89.  This was taken in front of the building I live in.'

Super pix, Bubble. Thank you sooooooo much. It is good to see she is in good health.

Mary Ann and Jackie - I also remember all the people you mentioned, who posted here and in Senior Net, and now they no longer do.  I used to read the messages from Mollie, who suddenly just stopped posting messages, and the same with Aeia Gal
Another one who stopped abruptly, was Bobby Gould. I remember how we all enjoyed reading about her travels across the country in her car, with her dog.  Someone recently mentioned being in contact with her, so she is still out there.  Another person that posted in Library Bookshelf, and in some of the health folders, and also in the the Dog folder, was a man named Jerry.  He wrote some very interesting messages about books and poetry, and I used to like reading what he had to say. I think he announced that he was leaving and likely would not return - which he never did.

So many others keep popping up in my mind, but I can’t recall their names now.  Of course there was Kelly, who is still out there, as far as I know?  I emailed with him for a while, and I know many others here did too. He has some very serious health problems, so that’s why he stopped posting.  There was also a lady from Toronto, who was very active. Her name isn't coming to me right now, but she was very active for many years in music, and in the Cat folder.  Which reminds me of Marjorie, who was also active in the Cat folder, and in lots of others as well.  She also stopped abruptly.  Not sure if she ever come to S&F or not?

Bubble - Just saw the message from Mary Page and picture - Thanks for posting it!

Good morning from the Interior where we are the same.

I don't remember Ellamae but do remember the others. Molly, I believe was hurt or upset by someone posting and quit. I know Bobbie Gould went on to post on Facebook, but know there was some time of family death and or illness. Marjorie and Purple Sage have died I believe and Kelly married his girlfriend. Many folks such as Sun simply went to Facebook where it is easier for them to post with both family and friends.

This is a map and an explanation of how much climate change various US cities will experience up to and through 2050. As usual, only the continental part of the country is shown. You can check your city in the space provided.

"Just look at Los Angeles, which experienced all-time record heat in July, topping out at 118 degrees Fahrenheit. Dozens of other heat records across the United States were smashed this summer alone.

But how much will temperatures in US cities change by 2050? By then, scientists say average global warming since preindustrial levels could be about twice what it is in 2018 â€" and much more obvious and disruptive. It’s a world you’ll (probably) be living in. And it’s the one we’re definitely handing off to the next generation.

To answer this question, we looked at the average summer high and winter low temperatures in 1,000 cities in the continental US, comparing recorded and modeled temperatures from 1986 to 2015 to projections for 2036 to 2065. This offers us the best possible estimate on how much winters and summers will shift from 2000 to 2050. "

Dont forget that we lost a lot of our members names when Pat started up our forum again March 2016 soon after our forum went down, so many names wont be on our now member list...

EllieMae as far as I remember only posted in Soda Shoppe but she said one day she would not be posting anymore, that was quite a few years ago...

Marilyne...
...oh yes I remember Jerry or Gerry who often posted in the dog room ( animals talking ) and also in Soda Shoppe who abruptly said he was going to stop posting, think he came back briefly before stopping posting again, said he was moving on...

Mary Ann

I've seen a Jerry post occasionally but I don't remember where.  Another I miss is Jerry2 from New Zealand who died.

Patricia, I looked at my city records and in 2050 our summer highs should be 5.2 degrees higher and in the winter the lows should be 6 degrees higher.  That's about 30 years from now and I do not expect to be here and if I was, it might set another record.

I just checked the Member List and there are no Jerry at all, with or without numbers.  One name I saw that I haven't seen in age - Jerrimphs.  I think she had another name, then changed it.  I didn't pay attention to the number of posts, but she would have posted in something like Soda Shoppe.  I don't think she posted in the old Michigan folder which is where the Bait & Tackle originated.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Mary Ann - The Jerry I'm thinking about left before Seniors and Friends "crashed" in 2016, so his name would not be on the member list here.  Another one who has vanished, is a man named Lynn, who posted a lot in Photos Old and New.  I remember that he had a father named Ray Franz, who was also a member.
There were some who posted in the Political folder, but it hasn't been active in a long time, I don't think?  MeriJo posted there for years, and diglady, did too.

I see that it's 80 degrees right now, at about 3:00 o'clock.  It's supposed to continue on over the weekend and into next week.  I'd better go turn the sprinklers on in the backyard, before everything dries up!  No rain in the forecast for as far ahead as they can predict.

angelface555

Ray and Lynn Franz are on Facebook and the Jerry who posted in pets and gardening died. MeriJo and Diglady posted for a while after Hal's death but they've moved on as political posts dwindled from what I've been told. Few enjoyed that sort of burn.

Marilyne, I have plus 15 and sunny presently, (3:09); and it's going to be plus 5 for a low tonight.

MaryAnn, I doubt if I would be here in thirty years, let alone for 2050, but the S.E. of Alaska is expected to warm and the Interior to get wetter.

Marilyne

Patricia - Yes, just about everyone is on Facebook, including me . . . but I wasn't looking to find Lynn or Ray or Bobby or Sun, or anyone else who has left S&F.  Just wondering why they leave without a word, and never return?  I'm sure there is no answer to that question, so no point in continuing to talk about it.
If true that Jerry has died, I'm very sorry to hear it.  As I said before, he was an interesting member of S&F, who posted in a lot of folders, and I hated to see him leave.

Mary Ann

Patricia, if Alaska and even Michigan gain five or six degrees in 30+ years, think about the south and the tropics.  I'm glad I won't be here, but my grand nieces and nephews should be and I'm sure they will suffer from the heat.

Marilyn, it's too bad when people leave without notice, but many people don't post every day and they just drift away.  I am not on Facebook and I doubt I ever will be.  Norm was on Facebook for the reason many seniors are - to see what his children and grandchildren were doing.

Marilyne, I was not singling you out. I'm a fixer. If someone has a question or an issue, I try to help. Its an odd personality quirk.

Marilyne

Patricia - If I sounded upset with you, I didn't mean to.
From now on, I promise to stay :calm:

Look for an email from me.

angelface555

Marilyne, everything's fine, you just caught me on the tail end of an aggravation elsewhere. Sorry.

so_P_bubble

I too started to think about these old friends, gone for a long time.
Remember Edge and his photos? Glen? Gunther? Joan Grimes? Nat in the gardening discussion? Uncle Ed? tpikdave? Papa John of course and GoldenStatePoppy... So many!

MarsGal

I, for one, am happy to learn that some of our former posters are still around even if not posting. Which reminds me, I have to leave a prominent note somewhere that if something happens to me you all are notified so you all don't have to wonder and feeling left in the dark.

I was very surprised to wake up to 67o this morning. It is expected to remain around that temp for the whole day. Checking the record weather temps here, I discovered that the record high for this day was 82o set back in 1971. The record of 84o for the month of November was 84o set 1950.

If the wind dies down later on, it will be a good day to rake leaves.

larryhanna

Hi Everyone. Yesterday we had a cloudy day and then a rainy evening.  This morning is still overcast but 65 degrees.  I see we have a 100% chance of thunderstorms this afternoon so a good day to stay home, which I plan to do.  I did have a very good night's sleep last night but am not feeling up to par this morning as short of breath the feeling exhausted. This is the morning for our housekeeper who will be here in a little while.  Our plans to eat at Honey From the Rock did not happen and we had leftovers for our dinner last evening. I did go downtown to coffee yesterday.

Mary Ann, I think there is a market for old tools.  You might find some good information on eBay.  I know my dad had no problem selling his tools when he left the farm and later when they had a garage sale a year or so before they could no longer live at home.  I know there is some interest in making things using the old hand tools although have no idea how big of an interest.  The chart Patricia posted on temperature increases show we would increase by about 4 degrees.

Marilyne, last summer (not this one) we had to run the dehumidifier all the time but finally got the humidity out of the house and didn't need to use it at all this summer as the humidity stayed in the low to mid-40's. You have an entirely different situation than we do here in the South.  Were you and AJ disappointed that more candy was left?  :) I think I had to water my yard maybe 4 times all summer and won't be doing so anymore this year.  Fortunately we had a lot of rain without long dry spells.

Jean, that is a good rule to limit the time for treat or treating.  Last week we got to see the little ones in costume at our Wednesday night dinner.

Bubble, thanks for sharing MaryPage's reply to you and the picture.  She looks good and hope that her health is good.

Patricia, I am always sad when I read about someone leaving our discussions due to hurt feelings.  One of the limitations of this type of communication is we can't see the other person's facial expressions and sometimes we say things off hand that aren't intended to hurt feelings of someone else but may.  We each have our own opinions on things and those often differ from what someone else may believe.  To me that is what makes life interesting as if we all had the same outlooks life would be rather boring.  I am certain I won't be around to experience temperature changes in 2050, at least I hope not. Please don't send that 5 degree temperature down this way.  We seldom get below the high 20's at night during the winter and it usually warms up above freezing during the day. I appreciate all the interesting information you provide.  I also like to try to be helpful if I can.

MarsGal, please do make provision that someone would post or contact someone when you are no longer able or around to do so.  I am pretty sure my wife would do so for me plus quite a few of you have my telephone number.

Larry, my dad's tools aren't THAT old but they are less than 100 years old.  I have his hammer, several screwdrivers, a ratchet set, wrenches and I don't know what.  I will let Tom dispose of them - or keep them, because I don't think he has many.  His idea is to call someone to fix whatever.  That makes me think - at one time he was the maintenance man at an apartment complex - so he can do some things.  Also, he put together the deck furniture I bought.  He's not helpless but he wants people to think he is so they won't ask him to do something.

I just watched a couple ships leave and come in to Duluth and I just caught the end of a ship leaving the Soo.  So many ships are leaving Duluth "tomorrow" and I don't get there at the right time.

Tom has come and gone to his Bible study and we both have put out trash.  He is working now and most likely will take the afternoon off, which he often does on Friday.  It looks like it will be a nice day here.

Mary Ann
