Hi guys & gals.  Well, I seen a couple of things I have to comment about today.

First, about the public speaking.  I had to read my paper (in college, but at the age of 35) without standing behind anything.  Well, I was shaking so bad, so I held the paper very tight, which stopped the shaking.  While I was reading, the thought crossed my mind that the paper could tear in half.  It occurred to me I could just die if that happened.  Well, it didn't & I didn't, but whew!

Another thing - Marilyne, I learned to iron hankies, too, but did it just the opposite of you.  The ladies hankies were folded in a rectangle and the mens were folded square.  My mother also put a coin (can't remember if it was a nickel, dime, or quarter) tied into the corner of the hanky that I carried - in case of an emergency.

Mary Ann, our keys were always put under the doormat.  And everybody knew about that, so do not know how that kept anybody out.  But in those days we did not have house thieves.  A different world.

I, too, wondered about Larry this morning.

And that is my contribution for the day.

Jackie, thanks for letting us know that Larry and Pat are okay!

I'm glad to see I wasn't the only one nervous with public speaking. First of all, I was told to leisurely move my eyes around the room, meeting someone's eyes for a second and then moving on. I understood later that my eyes had been moving not as expected but more at the speed of light!

Since this was a required class, I was very nervous as I was constantly told as a child that I was soft spoken and didn't use enough breath in speaking. So not only did I have to remember to move my eyes and to speak in a carefully modulated voice, but I had to speak in front of three hundred fellow classmates when I was used to perhaps twenty or thirty in my high school courses.

I was shaking so badly that my papers audibly rustled and while my speech only received a C, I received an A+ for effort!   My final end of the year grade was a B so I learned something and more in that class. Later on, in various positions, I had to instruct, interview and evaluate staff, show perspective renters apartments, speak in business meetings, run tours of factories for tourists and develop and implement various departments and displays. So that class was important, even more so than I would have expected! I see from your posts that I wasn't alone in my apprehension!

I have the local channel on to watch returns but they're showing National results.  I notice at the bottom they're showing more local returns, but not my area now.  I was watching PBS so it was a shock to go to our local channel and land on a commercial.

I did not take speaking in school and in DAR I became the chair of the Good Citizens Committee.  Each year we would have a contest among the seniors in high school and those seniors would be invited to a dessert and I, as chair, had to make the announcements.  My knees shook as did my voice and probably the rest of me when I had to stand there.  I did have a podium, but that didn't help my shaking.  I still am a DAR but I no longer head the Good Citizens Committee.  Jackie, you had some difficult words to pronounce.  It seems you did OK.

In watching the election returns on PBS, I cannot see how they can project a winner when there were 0% votes and 0% precincts reporting, yet PBS did.  Seeing that California, Alaska and Hawaii reports will not be in until very late, I will not wait up to see how things go.

I think I learned to iron on hankies too and my dad's handkerchiefs.  Hankies were ironed in quarters but so were handkerchiefs.  I still have some of my dad's handkerchiefs.  I gave some to Norm and we noticed how much larger they were than what Norm was able to buy.  Norm's were solid white whereas Dad had some that had color in them.  Times do change.

I don't remember all I voted for but I notice some I voted for are ahead.  There are some surprises in the county south of us.  Watching Wheel and Jeopardy, I got the ads for their candidates.

We will go to Holland Saturday for our Thanksgiving.  I will send the money to James and they will buy a turkey of an appropriate size.  We do know there will be at least six adults but James may invite friends from his church so we don't know exactly.  James and Alicia are in a different house than they were last year but it doesn't seem to have much more room than their last place.  We'll all fit in, I am sure.

We did not have DST on the ballot and it hasn't been a topic mentioned here.  I only know my own preference.

Tom and I try to eat out once a week and tonight was the night.  Almost every time we eat out, a friend of Tom's will show up.  Tonight was a couple I haven't seen in many years.  I had known her but not him, but I had not seen her in a long, long time.  I recognized her name but not her face.  As usual, I brought half of my meal home.  And I did get a meal tonight, not just a sandwich.

Hi Everyone. We have a beautiful sunny morning but suppose to have clouds and rain later in the day and evening. We will be getting into the mid-70's this afternoon.  I stayed up until after midnight last night watching the election returns.  Pat is planning on going to her craft group this morning and so I will take her and then go on down the street from the Church and have coffee with my men friends.  This evening is our normal Wednesday night dinner at the Church and later Scott will be out to spend a couple of hours with us.

It looks like once again my posting from yesterday didn't get posted.  I did prepare it and made some comments but nothing important so on to today.

MarsGal, hope you soon adjust to your new glasses.  It doesn't take long for our brains to make any needed adaptations.

Mary Ann, was sorry to read that Tom didn't have such a great day for his day with the high school kids.  Maybe he will be able to stay with the elementary classes for his subbing.  It sounds like you have a busy day ahead today.  Hope the plumber isn't too expensive and that he can easily fix the problem.

Marilyne, I don't mind someone else joining the conversation I may be having as long as they don't take over.  We have someone at our coffee who if he starts can't stop and no one else can get a word in edgewise.  He is also very strongly opinionated.  I prefer a conversation where everyone can participate, share but not dominate.  I am glad you don't feel that you need to hold back here in our discussions.  I have no intentions of ever going to vote in person again.  I will plan ahead and request the absentee ballots for Pat and I. We will be having a very quiet Thanksgiving and Pat won't be making a big meal as like you she just physically isn't up to doing it, although I know she would like to.  I don't think I even own a cloth handkerchief any more.

Jackie, I remember when you did that Bible reading in your Church and how nervous you were but that it went off well. Fortunately with the Internet we can listen to someone read the difficult passages and hear at least how they pronounce difficult words and names.

Shirley, I always think when I have to get in front of a group, as I now often do with our Sunday School class that the others are very supportive and just glad it isn't them standing there.  I have done enough public speaking so that it really doesn't bother me anymore. I can just image your standing there and tearing your speech in half.  You probably would have gotten an "A" for being so creative and it wouldn't have been the end of the world.  We never locked our house as I was growing up and the keys were always left in the car.  How life has changed.

Joy, nice that you enjoy your exercise class.  To me it always seemed better when the exercises could be done with others rather than doing them alone.  That was some turnout nationwide for the election yesterday considering it was a mid-term election.  Our county did approve the renewal of a one cent sales tax to be used for dedicated and identified projects.  Our town will get a nice chunk of it and the big project will be the building of a new Public Safety Facility and several other needed projects.

Jean, it sounds like many people in many States took advantage of early voting.  That seems like a really good idea to avoid having to stand in long lines on election day.  I am surprised you all still use paper ballots.  Is this a holdover from the days of the hanging chads?

Sandy, I really didn't want my wife to work outside our home and she did stay home until the children were both in school as felt it was my responsibility to support the family.  However, I came to realize that was not a wise decision on my part as she became much happier when she was able to get out of the house and work.  Unfortunately, physically she couldn't tolerate working and had to stop in about 1982 as I recall.

Patricia, I read how cold it was yesterday up your way and had to put on my jacket.  :)  I hope your baking went well yesterday. Glad you will finally be able to soon get your new office space set up and get the furniture you want for your apartment.  I also remember taking a speech course in college and I didn't enjoy it but did OK.  That was some blizzard with clear snow.

deAngel, glad to see your nephew is still living with you and the same for Mary Ann.

Joy

Good morning.  It is a pretty sunny morning, and it is supposed to be up near 60 º today.  Rain and cooler this week end.

I finally heard back from the doctor's office a few minutes ago.  Hopefully, everything is in order.  The gal I talked to said that staying off the blood thinner medicine was ok for 5 days instead of the 7 that was noted on the paperwork.  The cardiologist and the primary care doctor had requested only the 5 day restriction.  I have to have a procedure next Wed. where I have to be put to sleep.  Will be happy when that is behind me,

Larry, I know what you mean about a person butting in and also being opinionated.  There is one lady here where I live that does that.  I really like her but she just can't stop voicing her opinions about everything.  And, mostly all of it is so negative all the time.  There are a lot of people here, who I guess have no other things to talk about and complain constantly.   I enjoy having a nice conversation where different people join in when the opportunity presents itself.

Our election returns came in very quickly last night and most of the celebration parties were winding down  by the time the 11 o'clock news came on.

MaryAnn,  there are a lot of big whitecaps again this morning on the lake.  It sure does look so cold.   Glad to know that the catwalk will be put back.  That looks like a really long walk out to the end.   Did you ever walk the whole way out when you were young???  Also, I think you have mentioned before, there is a nice restaurant that sits back on the beach???  Does that close up for the winter???

Patricia, that was some blizzard you had  !   LOL  Would be nice if they all ended up that way.   Cute cat picture, tho.

I was awake again about 3:30 a.m. and had a difficult time getting back to sleep.  Finally got up a little after 6.  I will probably have a nap later.  I do want to go down to our library sometime today.  Will get some exercise in as it is a right good walk.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Joy

Sandy, you should thank your family as they made you what you are today and that's a good thing!

I agree,  Patricia....

We grew up in a different time,   when we were
all isolated to a point,  because
communicating outside of our home areas was
very slow,  if not at all.

Even though I disagreed politically with my family,
that was OKEY ..  and I was able to believe and live
the way that I wanted to with out pressure
from those around me who differed from me.
And they also could maintain their beliefs in
spite of our differences.

What tickles me is that me and my kids and my
brothers family,  now all agree politically with
one another.      Hooray for family unity, in A TIME
MANY families don't have that unity  !!!

Big smiles all around.

Shirleyn - Good to see you checking in yesterday!  I also remember my mother tying a coin inside of a hankie, in case of emergency.  I don’t think there was ever a an emergency?  We wore dresses or skirts and blouses, year around in the 1940’s.  No pants or jeans for girls back then, but we did wear shorts in the summer.  My grandmother made all my clothes, so I guess I had pockets in everything, to hold my hankies and other stuff?  We didn’t have a house key under the mat or anywhere else, because we never locked the door!  Hard to believe that we didn’t even lock it at night, but it never occurred to us that someone would come in and rob us . . . probably because we had nothing of value that a burglar would want.

Jackie - Nice to see you here too. It looks like most of us had a hard time with public speaking back then. Those who didn't, probably had a lot of self confidence. Looks like you're enjoying the Christmas shows from the US, which must be from The Hallmark Channel?  Those movies are so colorful and pleasant, that it's like watching a Hallmark Christmas card, come to life!  There's not always a "happy ending" in real life, so it's nice to watch those shows, where everything works out for the best.

Joy - It used to be a lot of fun, watching the election returns on TV.  Now, not so much.  I dislike the way they always tell you the winner, before the votes are even counted.  They call it the "projected winner".  It takes all the fun out of watching the returns.

Mary Ann, Patricia, Larry and Sandy - I'll get back later this morning and say hello to you all. It's already past 8:30 here, and I haven't had breakfast, or showered and dressed for the day.  I''ve spent way too much time on the computer, and this post has turned into another book!

angelface555

Good morning from the Interior! I had to throw in the picture of Farrah in photos. She loves her paper bags! Since cats like dens to escape to, I never try to reach in or try to grab her and she uses it as a bolt hole when she wants to be alone.

I do as my mother used to say, "natter on in here and rarely come to a point without describing the journey." But in my defense, it is the only place I can do so. There are some strongly opinionated folks here either religiously or politically, and I usually don't agree with either and know I want no part of the condemnation and raised voices I've seen with those unlucky to try another viewpoint.

Dora and Alan have had a long happy marriage despite both having different political parties and viewpoints, but they work together, something those political parties might consider. Many of my friends agree with me that religion, politics, and money are too volatile to get into arguments about but I feel most hold views similar to mine. And Sandy, those long-ago dinner discussions and the need to defend your viewpoint logically taught me valuable lessons in how I view my life today, a view not that different from yours. And one my sisters share, at least in that regard.

MaryAnn, your recipes were delicious! I used apples, cherries, and blueberries!

I've been to the dentist and back (cleaning).  I have a different hygienist each time, but I've gone there for years so I know all of them.  The one I had today and I talked and talked when we could.  When we got home, Tom and I emptied under the kitchen and bathroom sinks for the plumber who should be here early afternoon.  I am so tired of the very slow water flow, especially in the kitchen.

Marilyn, I wore skirts to work until I retired in 1986, also panty hose and heels.  I don't know when I quit wearing a skirt to church but it has been a long time.  I'm not the only one as I don't recall seeing any woman wearing a skirt in recent years.  I wore a hat for years until I discovered I was one of four women wearing hats and the other three were much older than I was.  I know hairdos had a lot to do with that.

Our lawn crew is here today blowing leaves.  More will fall, but this may be their last time for the season.  There are a lot of trees, hence a lot of leaves.  I think the sprinkler system must still be blown out and the fake swans taken from the pond (they're to scare the Canada geese, but they don't).

Sandy, I've mentioned that Tom and I differ both politically and religiously but we get along.  We just don't discuss them.  I might ask Tom a question, but not offer an opinion because "Tom knows it all"!  I think he got brainwashed by his rich friends so I don't bother.  As I said, we get along just fine, really.

Joy, I'm glad you finally heard from your doctor.  They don't think about the patient when they don't call back.  I know they're busy, but they can let a nurse call to let you know what to expect.

Our temperature now is 38 degrees and I doubt it will go any higher.  I'm still wearing my "transition" coat and it won't be long before I wear my winter coat and that will be for a while.

I know we won't eat until after the plumber is here.  Larry, I'm prepared to pay a lot because I may need a new kitchen faucet.  I feel the man who put that in sold me a "bill of goods".  He cost me a lot of money on another project too and I will not call that company again.  The company coming today put the initial plumbing in this building of four units.  It was 37-38 years ago but I figure they may still have the plans for when they installed the plumbing - in case it is necessary.
***********************************************
The plumber just left and it did not cost me an arm and/or a leg.  $82.50 and $60 of it was the initial standard charge.  He looked at the pull-out for the spray and said there was lime in there that was causing my low pressure.  I know he put in a new washer and did some digging in that area and things are much better.  He looked at both bathrooms and did what he had to do and all is well.  He was here about a half hour.

Mary Ann

Mary Ann

At Grand Haven there seem to be several body surfers in the water - many whitecaps.

My post about the plumber doesn't seem to have made it, so I'll repeat some of what I wrote:

The plumber was here about a half hour and it cost me $82.50, not an arm and/or leg.  The problem was lime in the system and he said our township water was bad as far as lime is concerned.  He checked both baths and all is well.

I see my other blurb did make it, so I'll leave things as they are.

Marilyn, Isolda (CY) is headed for the Soo - in broad daylight!

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Mary Ann, I just now saw your post about the Isolda, so I went to the Soo cam, and looks like it's in the locks right now. (11:50 here) I'll continue to check back and watch it's departure.  I clicked on it, and says it's headed for Montreal.  I also looked at Grand Haven, but I was too late to see the body surfers.  The lake has had some large waves the past couple of days.

Sandy, I'm glad the election is over . . . but of course the campaigning for 2020 will start soon!  I was happy with some of the results, and unhappy with others.  I try not to let it bother me, because I've lived long enough to know that the political climate is constantly evolving and changing.  Even two years from now, there will be brand new candidates, plus some of the leftovers from this year.

Last night, AJ went to a San Jose Sharks Hockey game, with our son, so I was home alone to watch the election results. I switched between the various channels until about 8:00, and by then (Pacific time.) it was pretty clear who the winners were going to be. Then I switched over to Turner Classic Movies, and watched, The Best Years of Our Lives, 1946.  If you ever long for the past, when life was slower, and the American people were kind and treated each other with respect, you can always watch that wonderful old film, about the three servicemen returning home after The War.  I long wistfully, for the time when the sentiments reflected in this powerful film, actually existed.

Patricia - Chocky?  I think she said she had some incurable condition, but no, I don't know anything about her.  She's from England - if I have the right person.  Jeanne Lee always called her by name.

Marilyn, I watched the Isolda leave the Soo, too.  By that time, there wasn't much to see since the ship was headed to Montreal.  The surfers were not there when I checked a few minutes ago.  Even when I saw them, they were little dots but they moved around.

Good evening, had a full day, and it was a beautiful day sun and NO WIND.

Larry talking about getting up in front of a group.  My husband and I were 4-H leaders for 10 years. One day he got a letter from a former member of his club who was a senior in college thanking him for teaching  him how to make a speech.  He had received top honors and a very high grade.Lot of times our 10 year old members  had to get up in front of one of the leaders to explain and demonstrate there project. To win a ribbon. How they presented them selves also counted, We had them practice, , Introduce yourself, explain why you were there talk about your subject and have a  good quick ending ending, Now I have to pat my own back, our club of 9 .
young boys got a special mention. Now as always I have said to much, Once in a while I get carried away.

MaryAnn, I will talk about cloths next time

Hi Everyone. WE had some heavy rain with thunderstorms last night after 8 pm.  Today we will get up to the mid-60's with a chance of rain all day.  I don't have much on the schedule for today except going to the Thursday coffee after picking up my friend.  After I return him to his apartment I will stop at Walmart to pick up a couple of prescriptions for Pat and then pick up an online grocery order.  I plan to spend the rest of the day restfully as am tired today.  Scott didn't make it out after dinner at the Church last night so am not sure when he will get here.  It could be later today or later this week. We made our plans for Thanksgiving and will go to Cracker Barrel on Wednesday for our Thanksgiving dinner.  I plan on getting a pumpkin pie from Costco that we can have on Thanksgiving.

Jackie, that Bible Gateway website is wonderful.  When I was doing the website for our Church a number of years ago I would always link any Bible references back to that site and the reference citation.

Joy, I always had to go through that stopping the blood thinner medicine for any cath or other invasive procedure.  I think it was usually for 5 days.  Glad you heard back from the doctor.  It is too bad when people seem to be negative about everything and I wonder if they ever enjoy much happiness.  A positive attitude serve me much better than a negative one.

Sandy, like you I don't judge my friends on whether they hold the same opinions and beliefs as I do or not.  I am glad I grew up before the time of social media, which doesn't seem to be doing young people any favors these days.

Marilyne, I really can't remember when my wife owned a dress rather than wear slacks and blouse or jacket. I do see many of the older women in our Church wear dresses to Church but only one or two of them wear a hat and one of those ladies is in our Sunday School class.  You probably made better use of your time watching the movie than following the election returns.  It is pretty amazing all of the data and quick returns the commentators have from all over the country.

deAngel, glad to see you enjoyed a nice sunny day with no wind.  It sounds like you and your husband did some great work with the 4-H youth.  I have to disagree with you in that I don't think you or anyone else here says too much.

Patricia, I remember our cat loved to get in the middle of a suit case laid out on the bed for packing or into a box or paper bag.  Like you I guess I describe the journey in my postings before I come to the destination or point. I do learn a lot more by listening that I gain from talking but that still doesn't stop me from talking.

Mary Ann, glad you got your plumbing problems fixed and for a modest bill at today's prices.  The last time we had a plumber I seem to remember his basic service call price was over $100.  Our lawn crew is now down to once every two weeks for the next 4 months.  We did get notice that they will be applying post and per-emergent weed control to our yards today and tomorrow.

Larry, our lawn crew was here Tuesday, doing a lot of blowing of leaves.  Since today is/was their regular day and since they're not here, I think Tuesday was "it" for the year.  I do know we have trees with leaves on yet, but the one in front of next door is an English oak and shed half of its leaves in the fall and the rest in the spring.  I think there are more leaves to fall before they get to the half.  And maybe they'll be back next week for more blowing, except we may have white stuff on the ground and that will be the end of this season's work.

It's only 38 here right now but I don't have to go anywhere.  I thought Tom might be subbing, but he's here at his semi-recruiting work.

I'm sorry Scott didn't make it last night because I know you and Pat look forward to it each week.

I've mentioned how our Thanksgiving will not be on Thursday, either, we will have it Saturday following and Alicia's parents will be here from Milwaukee.

Tom is fixing his usual breakfast of scrambled eggs.  Often I join him, but not this morning.  I'm not a great lover of scrambled eggs, but Tom does a good job of them, adding many vegetables.

Grand Haven isn't as rambunctious as it has been the last few days.  And it is snowing at the Soo.  Big white flakes!

Good afternoon,Sun has shown two days in a row.  Of coure tomorrow they are saying wind and rain again.  That is my Homemakers day.

Mary Ann, I like a swiss cheese omelet, that is what I get when we go to Friendly's most of the time.

Larry, Conn. is the closest we have a Cracker Barrel. I do not think there are any in NY state.  A ew years ago a questionnaire came out about things we would like in Riverhead Township Cracker Barrel was voted the #1 restaurant they would like to see come here. Of course my husband from Ala.  always like there food. Next month the LIbrary has a bus trip going to Orange, Conn. a mall and ending at the Cracker Barrel.  Wish I was able to take that trip.  I am still comfortable in a skirt and when I go to a dress up occasion I wear a suit or skirt, I have a closet fall from when I worked at the hospital Slacks were not allowed. Of course now things have changed.  Yesterday I went to ou Lassie meeting here in the park and wore a matching blouse and skirt and 4 people complimented me on my 30 year old outfit :)

Marilyne

Gloria - I belong a Facebook group called, “Life in the 1940’s”. People who post there, are all older folks, both men women, who remember what life was like back then.  One of the main subjects that always comes up, is how women always wore dresses, skirts and blouses or suits.  Members post old black and white family snapshots from those “olden” days.  One member posted a photo yesterday of a group of women from his family, cleaning up the kitchen after Thanksgiving dinner.  There were five women, all in dresses, and all wearing aprons!   I don’t think the young wives of today, even own an apron, and wouldn’t wear one, even if they did? Ha ha

I love looking at those old photos, and I plan to post some of mine on that site, as soon as I get around to scanning them.  Fortunately, my mother took  pictures of lots of events back then, and put them all in albums, so I have a lot to choose from.

Lindancer

Marilyne, that sounds so interesting. At 94 I still have a couple of aprons.  I always needed the pockets to hold cloth pins, after you took them out of the clothespin bag. (I still have one also) I still have a couple of hubbard aprons and smocks which I am still using.  Mainly for the pockets. I will throw 2 more words in curtain stretcher and rumble seat car, which I nearly froze in, during ::) the winter

Good late morning from the still cold, still snowless Interior! However, we have warmed up and the week should see more warming so that may mean snow with more moisture in the air.

I went out to breakfast at a friend's today, and they just adopted a black English Cocker puppy that they named Toby. I held him on my lap the entire time except when eating. Everyone was joking that they might have to check my pockets when I left!  :smitten:

I have some photos of my parents in the forties with family and military, but my sister arrived in 1949 and I came along in mid-1951, so they were still fancy-free.

Our maintenance men used to deal with our seven buildings when we called an Anchorage main number, and they notified the local shop. I still see some of the same crew and new ones both doing outside yard work and in doing various inside things.

But we still have to call or leave a note at the security desk, and they usually get back to us the next day or so according to their assigned schedule. About the only regular instance, I'm aware of is Friday vacuuming all five floors and stain spotting on the rugs or walls. They have both maintenance, (building repairs); and housekeeping,( building maintenance); all men. Even the security office is male. Our managers and tenant liaisons are always female.

We don't have regular maintenance people, but if we notice something in our complex that needs taking care of, we send a "Let's Act" e-mail or phone call.  If it is an emergency, someone on the Board will look into it and the matter may or may not be taken care of.  Otherwise, it is considered at the next Board meeting - the first Saturday of the month.  Anything within our unit is our responsibility to schedule and have done.

I don't think I ever saw my mother in either shorts or slacks; she always wore a dress.  Nor my paternal grandmother who lived with us her last seven years.  And here was I at 94 wearing shorts all summer!  What must they think?!

My mother had a lot of aprons when she died and I held on to them for a long time.  They were aprons my mother made herself; some were quite plain, others had eyelet ruffles around them.  One year I bought several yards of various gingham and made aprons for all of the women in the family.  Women were still wearing them at that time (mid 50s) and I wore mine for a long time.  I still have one terry cloth apron that if I cooked, and it was something messy, I might retrieve from the linen closet.  Not cooking, there is no reason for me to use one and I doubt Tom would wear one.  I think someone gave Norm a full apron that had Head Cook or Head Chef printed on it and if he cooked, he did wear it.  Especially grilling steaks outside.

Gloria, Tom uses cheese in his scrambled eggs but now it is mozzarella.  Swiss cheese is my favorite and I put that with my lunch meat sandwiches.

I've been watching ships at the Soo and one went through the near channel and you could see the height of the superstructure.  I try to picture a ship like that, going on Lake Superior, which is deep and rough in bad weather.  The ship I saw was six or seven stories tall above the base of the ship.  I am not sure the Atlantic Ocean is as rough as Lake Superior.

Our temperature has wavered between 39 and 40 degrees today.  I put on a lightweight jacket when I went for the mail.  I asked Kendrick if he wanted to go on the porch and he went out and tried to turn around to come in but I shut the door before he could get in.  He did his usual wriggling on the porch but scooted in when I opened the door.  He probably will think twice when/if I give him that offer again.

I think it is now becoming a rarity seeing a lady in a skirt or pretty dress...so many now wear trousers come Winter or Summer...As for me, I have gone the opposite....I once lived in trousers only but, I now prefer skirts and cant remember the last time I donned a pair of trousers, I just dont feel comfortable in them any more....It is just as well really that I dont wear them, with my MS bladder emptying due to nerve damage, at least when I need to go when out and about in the car, I can do so at short notice without anybody noticing what I am doing, I wouldn't be able to do so if I had trousers on...

My mother's family all sewed including the males, and my mother sewed the majority of our clothes. I never saw her in jeans until I was a teenager although in the late fifties she would wear culottes and petal pushers. While my father mainly wore a matching shirt and trousers work clothes, my mother once sewed him a pair of jeans, but I only saw him wear them a couple of times.

Altho both parents worked full time, and we had babysitters, they were traditionalists in that my mother took care of the house and my father, the yard. As soon as we became old enough,  were recruited by both parents. My mother wore aprons and while my father cooked outside, grilling, he never did nor had any of us kids.

Jackie, the last dress I wore was at my second wedding in 1980. And probably years before that. I believe my mother gave up on me and dresses probably in the junior year of high school.

My mother made a lot of my clothes when I was young and I finally asked if I could have a store bought dress.  We bought one, then because I was so short, Mother had to cut maybe six inches off the bottom and hem it.  I still have that problem today and it wouldn't make any difference if it would be a dress or slacks.  Maybe that is why I wear shorts all summer - no need to shorten them!  I have some culottes and pedal pushers (I think they call them Capri pants now) that I wear on cooler days.  I have only three pair of slacks and I keep the black ones for Sunday, although I do wear the other (navy and burgundy) at times.

Patricia, my dad sewed too, in fact, made covers for chair cushions.  He could knit, crochet too and he is the one who taught me to tat.  My mother showed me how, but I didn't master it then, but I did when Dad showed me again.  I tatted until arthritis made it difficult.

Jackie, you have a good reason to wear a dress.

I think I'll shut up for a while.
