This day is getting away from me just like all of the rest of them!  I always have so many thoughts about what I am going to get done today......then I blink twice and the day is nearly over.

We did not have to help Michele today, so we managed to get a few outside things done today.  Bob cleaned out the gutters and that is always such a BG job.  Sure hate to have him on the ladder......but he is very careful😩

We are attending a little cocktail party later this afternoon at one of the new retirement homes.  It is something to do and we can see what they have to offer for the unbelievable amount of money they want to charge to live there.

BEVERLY, how nice to read your post and hear how things are going in Vermont.  Enjoy yourselves and continued thoughts and prayers for Donna.

MARILYNE, I agree totally with you.....just in general the majority of the populous just seem to be different....not sure what we can attribute it to, but it is a fact and it makes me very sad.

We have to be at Dave and Michele's tomorrow morning at 6 AM to help get the grands up and readY for school.  Dave is flying home tonight from a business trip in Jacksonville, so he will take Michele to the Gamma Knife appointment.  It is scheduled for 6:45 AM.  WE certainly hope it goes well and this will be the last time she ever has to do this.  It is the third one she has had, so let's hope the third time is the CHARM!🙏🙏. On next Tuesday she will have a PET Scan and they will be able to see what and how many radiation treatments will be required to make sure the tumor on the lung is gone!  We just hope and pray they do not see any more spots that they are concerned about.  This has been such a very long process to get to this point😫😢😩

MARY ANN, yes, as Tomreader told you, the song is sung by Alan Jackson.  As many have stated, the world certainly has changed a lot since 9/11/01😤😩

I am worried about JACKIE.  I sent her a email awhile back and she never responded to it.  I do hope and pray she is not too down and will come in and let us know how she is soon.

I must start getting ready.

We are home from our outing....not sure it was worth the effort!  Fist of all it was a total traffic jam getting in to the facility.  They were doing valet parking and it took forever....it took us 25 minutes from the time we turned in to the facilities drive before we got out of our car and headed in.  Over all people were not very friendly at all....seems at things like this many seem to think they are better than the others, and truth be known most of them probably can not afford this place anyway.  I could not believe how many were stuffing paper coffee cups with the hordes d'oeuvres and the deserts.....there were  all kinds of adult beverages and they were quite popular🤣🤣
The units were not staged, and they were all quite small......very little closet space, and no bath tubs at all.  In a 2bedroom place there were two roll in showers.  There was a lot of complaints about that.  Oh well.....it is going to be quite the fancy lace and I do not think we are really interested in it at all.  Other facilities nearer to us are much more to our liking.

Have a good evening.

Jenny, I hope things go well for Michele; she has had so much going in the wrong direction so it's time things turn around for her.

I am surprised you did not get a response from Jackie.  Her posts are usually the first one I see when I sign on - because of the time difference.  I did see her last post was the 9th but it didn't say which folder.  There's no way anyone can check from here.  She did say in her post to MarsGal that she had not been well.

You know you can hire having your gutters cleaned; Bob doesn't have to risk falling!  I know - he's always done it.  It's like us women who have always done something and all of a sudden we're older and we can't do it.  Sometimes we try and find we shouldn't!

We've had a dreary day and the temperature didn't get to 70 degrees.  I seldom go out anyway since I can't go any place.  That doesn't bother me like it does some people.

Just had a card posted telling of an annual service of remembrance to remember all those that have passed away at the crematorium that Richards service I held at... They obviously contacted everyone who held their cremation service there as i did...this will be held  Sunday 13th October at 2.pm, just this minute come off the phone asking if the only NeighbourCar voluntary driver who will come to where i live, i have used him before, he is elderly and disabled and such a nice person, thankfully he will take me, of course i have to pay £10 or maybe the charge will be more, at least I will be attending...Of course this will be a tough occasion to get through, being back at that crematorium again...

Joy

Good morning.  I know I have been absent for a few days.  I am fine, just trying to limit my time on the computer.  I am trying to get some things done that I have been putting off.  Doing ok with that, but still not getting  very far, fast.  I made a list, but so far, have not gotten much of the list accomplished.

Jackie, it really makes me so sad to read your messages this morning.  Just makes me feel so helpless, but I do know that you understand that all we can do for you is to pray that each day will start to be better.  I can't imagine having to live in a place that you hate.  I so wish you better days soon.  But, I can send you a big ((((((((((hug))))))).

Too early for anything special to talk about.  I always have good intentions of getting back here, but just the time seems to just fly by so fast.

I am sending you all special good Friday Wishes for a wonderful day.

Mary Ann

It's nearly 9 am and I've just gotten up and have my coffee beside me.  It is Friday 13th.  I'm not a superstitious person so it is just another Friday.  It is raining out and we can stand the rain, although it has rained a bit the last couple of days.

Jackie, I'm glad to see your posts and I can see why you did not feel like posting.  I can only offer you my hand to hold to try to comfort you.

Joy, I spend too much time on the computer.  Now I feel I'm going to have a computer problem and it may be of my own doing.  I know I have attempted to close the cover when there has been a pencil on the keyboard and I sprung the joint.  Now when I put the computer to sleep, it shuts off and I have to sign in again.  I don't mind (too much) if I've finished something, but I don't like it in the middle of something because I lose whatever I've begun.  I'll have to save things more often.

JACKIE - The annual Service of Remembrance, at the crematorium,  for all those who have passed this year, sounds very nice.  It will be hard for you, but I'm glad you are going. It will make you feel good to be there in honor of Richard.  I'm thinking it might be the right time for you to ask your doctor about taking an antidepressant medication?  I have heard that they are especially helpful, when the death of a loved one has occurred?

Yes anti- depressants is our GP's miracle cure..as i told her yesterday they are going to bring back Richard, bring back my dogs, get rid of my PP - Multiple Sclerosis, get me away from this horrible place i am living...medication is our medics answer to everything, yes just pop a pill, they dish them out like sweets...I told her i need to keep a clear head, i still have things to deal with...no one else is going to do it...

This is my mental state...I am telling Richard that " he is in a better place than me at the moment.." although he would not agree with it, as he would give anything to still be living and not dead...

Hmm - no one here since MarsGal about 11 am EDT.  I'll watch if I remember.

Jackie - this is easy for me to say, being so far away.  But as long as you are alone with no friendly neighbors, you are the one who is going to pull yourself up by the bootstraps.  No one can do it for you.  I am not in your shoes, but you've got to tell yourself that better days are coming.  It's your attitude you must change and you are the one who is going to have to change it.  Think positively - I CAN, I CAN.

We all wish you the best, but wishes don't do it.

Take a look at the Duluth Harbor webcam.  Lots and lots (Edit:  at least 25 ) of sailboats coming into the harbor from somewhere in the background.  Am going to try and stick with watching to see if they go under the bridge and out into the lake.

Otherwise - a "ho hum" Saturday in central Oklahoma.  :)

Amy

MarsGal, this is another webcam that I enjoy watching. I think I could go to sleep watching the waves at Chebucto Head..

Jackie, my friend found she needed a mild sedative after her husband died.  She said it made those first months much easier to bear.

It is still hot in this part of the country.  I'm looking forward to cooler weather.

I made my "meatloaf for two" yesterday so leftovers today.  We had dinner around 2 pm and I'm just resting for a little while before I put the clothes in the dryer.

Marsgal, seeing that asteroid go by in real time should be interesting.  It will be 6:54 for me.  It seems odd but we are on central time in our area of Florida.  I hope I can remember.

Hope everyone is having an OK day.  Once in a while I have a good day but mostly the days are just OK.

MarsGal

Amy, I didn't realize that the cams took still shots every few seconds. Although I did see the Lunenburg webcam the other day, it didn't look like anything moved. The ship directly in front of the cam is Bluenose II, one of the tall ships we were tracking during it's Great Lakes Tall Ship Challenge participation this year. Picton Castle also calls Lunenburg home when it is in the US, but it is moored a little farther up the dock, out of camera range.

For those that care, Appledore IV is finally on the move again and got as far as the bottom end of Belle Isle before turning back toward Detroit/Port Arthur. I've been keeping an eye on her because home port is Bay City and to get back there, she will be sailing back up the St. Clair River. Pride of Baltimore is heading into New Bedford CT. And, while here, I missed Happy River at the Marine City webcam. I hope to catch her at Port Huron.

Jackie, I understand how nasty depression can be.It is like a whirlpool that drags you down and down. It feeds on itself, I think. I finally found out I had a "sub-clinical" depression when I was in my 20's.  I also figured out that I must have had childhood depression off and on for a long time. I was prone to "the blues" off and on for a long time. Once I realized it, I was able to pull myself out of the downer thoughts (with a little help at times from a mild anti-depressant). When I first met George, he was into a major depression due to an accident. I can remember just sitting on his bed with him on days he didn't want to even get out of bed.  With the help of a psychiatrist and a behavioral psychologist (not at the same time) and anti-depressants he pulled out of it, but it took quite a long time. I don't remember exactly how I managed it, but I started consciously cutting off my downer/self pity thoughts when I recognized I was doing it.

I doubt we will see the harvest moon tonight. It is still very cloudy here. I wonder when Space.com is going to start its live webcast of the asteroid. Closest approach is 7:54pm EDT (2354GMT). The other cool thing coming up is an interstellar comet heading our way according to SpaceWeather.com https://www.spaceweather.com/

Hi Jean. I guess I was typing when you posted.

Amy

MarsGal, I put it full screen and watched the people and noticed that most of them are wearing jackets!!

So much to look at and for.  Amy, I have always wanted to go to the area of PEI and NS but the closest I got in Canada was Montreal and the closest in the US was New England and both of those were within the last 12 years.  I wouldn't dare take a trip of that size now and I'm even wondering about 250 miles to Indianapolis next weekend.

MarsGal, I hope I remember to look at 7:54 for the asteroid; I'll look sooner than that as the article suggested.

Tom just brought me a ham sandwich which I'm ready to eat.  He makes much better sandwiches than I do.  I also made a stew last night and I've got to try that too!

I've spent much of the afternoon looking at some pictures James sent me; they are of his twin girls in a Google group (the pictures, not the girls).  They're all mixed up but the pictures go from the time the girls were born to recent.  I don't know how old they were, maybe not a year yet, but I could tell them one from the other.  One way is because Jo has curly hair and Ellie does not, but I was able to tell by their faces.  The girls are not identical twins.  They have a lot of fun together and I think one reason they are so well behaved is that they do have each other for company.  I wish I could see them more often.

Mary Ann

Mary Ann

MarsGal, I hope you saw the asteroid because I did not.  I clicked on the site at 7:40 in case my clock was not quite right.  I did see the whole sky move a fraction of an inch, but not one star in particular nor anything else.  Those two men who were talking, are very passionate about their field.  Well, I tried.

Mary Ann

MarsGal

Amy and Mary Ann, you saw more than me. When I clicked on several links they all wanted me to sign up for a free account which I didn't want to do. Maybe something will show up on YouTube later.

I plan on mowing the backyard today, but the grass is not likely to dry out early this morning. Right now it is still dark, muggy and hazy. I do see the full moon through the haze. Nothing much going on today otherwise.

Marilyne

Not quite 7:30 here, but I can tell from just stepping outside on the deck, that our heat wave, is finally over. I haven't looked at my online weather, but last night on the news, they predicted a possibility of showers?  In my long lifetime, I don't remember ever having actual measurable rain, this early in the season . . . but the climate is changing, so maybe it will happen?  If so, it would be a blessing,  as it would prevent the usual Fall wildfires.

Today is AJ's birthday! We are hoping to meet Brad and Jackie, at a nice restaurant here in town, for dinner.  I don't know if Sandy, will be joining us, but I don't think so. We both have made it clear that we don't want gifts anymore, but something like a dinner out, is a nice treat.  He recorded a couple of college football games yesterday, so he will probably relax and watch those this afternoon, and that will be the extent of his celebration.

Marilyn, Happy Birthday to AJ.  Each birthday that we have these years is a milestone.  I hope you have a good meal.  I like meals as a birthday gift too.  Also for Christmas and any other occasion.  I used to ask for pictures, thinking pictures from a camera, but Tom would frame them and give me several and I now have more pictures than I have wall space for.

Dot and I did our usual this morning.  For a change we had an honest-to-gosh real coconut cream pie and it was good.  We solved the world's problems in the meantime, but you'd never know it.  Our church recently had a directory made to celebrate our 150th anniversary and Dot and I each got our books today.  After I got home, I spent considerable time reading about the history of the church, then looked at the pictures.  I was amazed that I know so many of our church members.  For someone whose main activity is attending and paying, I feel that is remarkable.  The committee did a good job.

Tom should be home soon unless he goes to Holland first.  He seldom tells me where he is going on Sunday after church.  I need a nap but I'll wait a bit before I close the door because it is unlocked.

MarsGal, I don't feel so bad about not seeing the asteroid since you didn't see it either.  I had clicked on the link you gave and got a dark sky with a lot of stars.  I expected the asteroid would cross the screen, but I saw nothing.

Mary Ann

FlaJean

Marsgal, I was reading a really interesting book and completely forgot about the asteroid, bit it sounds like I didn't miss anything.

My daughter came over this morning to show us the photos she took on their vacation.  She took them on her iPhone and got some terrific shots.  We used to live about 20 miles from D.C. and I loved that busy busy area.  But my husband was anxious to move to a warm climate with no snow and a not so busy place.  Thus the move  to Florida.  All her pictures made me a little nostalgic.

Mary Ann, I believe this is the first time you actually knew what kind of cream pie.  It sounds so good.  I don't often buy a cream pie as I have to eat the whole thing and get tired of cutting through a frozen pie to get one slice.  But I did buy a Pepperidge coconut cake Friday.  In fact I think I'll go cut myself a piece in a few minutes.  We ate late this morning so our usual schedule went out the window.

Marilyne, Happy Birthday to AJ.  I hope you both enjoy your dinner!  Something to look forward to.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Amy

MarsGal, I don't blame you as I didn't do it either. I did watch Chebucto Head for a while and enjoyed  the surf.  We did get to Peggy's Cove and  walked on the sea floor at the Bay of Fundy but as much as I would love to go back know we both are not up for the drive.
I can't change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination.

I missed the asteroid viewing, too.  Was watching my Oklahoma Sooners win over UCLA.

Marilyne,   :hb3: to A.J.  Hope you enjoyed the meal out.

Jenny,  I'm sorry the news wasn't better for Michele. She's a brave soul and I pray thing improve soon.

Mary Ann and FlaJean, I haven't had a piece of pie in ages.  The cream pies you describe sound so good - except for the coconut.  I don't like it in any way shape or form.  Is Chess Pie considered a "cream pie"?

I think my church Lunch Bunch has fallen apart. One member's son is now bringing her to church and another one has stopped coming on a regular basis.
After church today, I decided to get a drink at the Braum's Dairy Store/Market drive through and have lunch at home. Then I remembered I needed a few dairy items - and ended up bringing a drink AND lunch home but resisted any ice cream or other dessert.

Last Sunday I enjoyed watching the PBS introduction to the Ken Burns "History of Country Music" series.  Tonight is the first of 8 episodes and I need to set my vcr to record "Chesapeake Shores" on the Hallmark channel.
Been a "dry" summer tv wise and I'm glad to have some choices again.

Behave yourselves and have a great week.  (Is that an oxymoron?  :2funny: )

Mary Ann

Callie, I don't recall having had chess pie and I haven't made it, but I thought from pictures that it was more like mince pie.  I am sure someone will come in with the correct information.  The cream pies we have do not all have coconut in them which is why I call them "cream" pies.  I wouldn't be surprised if the cream was the basis for most of the pies and coconut was added when they want to add it.

I'm sorry to hear your Lunch Bunch is breaking up, but that's what happens when we get old.  The main reason our retiree group is still going is because everyone is about seven years younger than I am!

I'm watching golf from Grand Blanc MI and the program goes to 8 pm.  Grand Blanc is on the other side of the state and it looks as if it is getting dark there, same as here.  You don't play golf in Michigan at 7 pm.  Heck, it is even hard to see freighters on the St Clair River at 7 pm!

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Thank you all for wishing AJ a Happy Birthday!  He is well aware of how fortunate he is to be celebrating #85!

Callie - Tonight I plan to watch the first episode of the new Ken Burns, series.  I've never been a huge CW fan, but I do like lots  of the oldies from the 1940's and 50's.  Also love the music from the movie, "Urban Cowboy".

I'll root for your Sooners, except when they play LSU:D   That's AJ's favorite, because our granddaughter graduated from there a couple of years ago, and we've remained loyal.  Other than that, we favor all the West Coast teams of course - especially Stanford, and the two Oregon's.

Mary Ann - We'll be leaving for the birthday dinner in about an hour or so.  Still not sure where we're going?  Usually when we go out with them, we go to a restaurant close to us here called Little Aldo's.  ("Little" because the original Aldo's is located in Santa Cruz, and is much larger. The menu in both places features Italian pasta dishes, and local seafood.  It's pricey, but delicious.

Jean - Thanks for reminding me of the Pepperidge cakes.  We used to really enjoy them, but it's been a long time.  I plan to take another look, and see what's available the next time I'm in Safeway. There was also a SaraLee cake that I liked, but can't remember which one.

MarsGal - No mention of the asteroid here, on our news?  Maybe because it was too early, and the sun was still shining?  I'm sure it wasn't visible here, (except at an observatory), or it would have been on the news?

Jenny - I was so happy to hear that Michele's brother came to see her!   As you know, I've been thinking about it for a long time, and  I'm glad that someone from her family understands how serious her illness is.  I hope she is feeling better, since her painful reaction to the Gamma Knife treatment?

Well, now I feel a bit deflated after reading about your continuing nightmare, Jackie. It has to end sometime; I hope sooner than later. I am somewhat aghast that there is no-one, in a position to do so, willing or available to help you.

I was excited to see Algoma Compass slowly pick its way into Sombra port, opposite Marine City, this morning with all lights and searchlights blazing. Spectacular view if you want to rewind back to about 5:15am.

Since I just missed them at Marine City, I was able to catch Wigeon, Whitefish Bay, and Great Republic at Port Huron abound 6:30am on the timestamp. Wigeon and Whitefish Bay are heading to Thunder Bay (I just love that name) and Great Republic is going to Calcite. Almost, but not quite, got to see the pilot switch. The ladder was down and the pilot boat had just aligned itself with Wigeon when they passed out of sight.

FIOS is dropping me in and out of the net bigtime this morning.

Marilyne, I hope AJ enjoyed his birthday! It sounds like one of the best kind!

Mary Ann

Jackie, it sounds as if you are headed in the right direction.

Hi Patricia - Yes, the birthday party last night, was  a milestone, and lots of fun.  I asked Brad about his business trip to Anchorage, and he said it was nice weather the week he was there, but still a little smokey.  Not as bad as last time.  I keep meaning to comment . . . I saw on the news last week, that your former Governor, has filed for divorce.  :-X

Jackie - Looks like you have turned a corner,  and you're finally getting the help you need.  That is good news!
