Oldiesmann: Relevant links can be found in topics in the Homemaking, Food & Garden board. I'll see about moving them over to articles here when I get a chance.

Oldiesmann: Found them. They're on the CP site: https://www.christianphotographers.com/recipes/recipeindex.html

Oldiesmann: I'm not finding anything related to recipes on the site. I'll do some digging through the Internet Archive and see if I can dig them up. It's possible that got lost in the big server crash back in 2016

Mary Ann, sometimes I get a bit frustrated with Marine Traffic. It has shown up again, still as US Government Ship. Right now, at a little after noon EST, it is in the middle of Lake Michigan between St. Joseph, IN and Evanston, IL. and heading up the lake.

I really need to get stuff done around here. Dishes are almost done, but the water is getting cold. Cat box maintenance and lawn raking.

Marilyne

We were slated to get our power turned off again this morning, but it's now almost noon, and hasn't happened yet?  I'm hoping that. this is a good sign, and that there are no new fires to worry about.

In the meantime time, we spent a lot of time on the fridge and freezer, and finally got it completely cleared out, and cleaned.  It hasn't looked this good since we bought it, which is a long long time ago? I'd say maybe in the 1980's, but not sure?  It's a side by side, which I know isn't considered fuel efficient now, but it's still working, so that's all I care about at this late time in life!  (Same applies to the washer and dryer.)

MARY ANN - Good to hear that your Gr-nephew and family aren't in the danger zone, at either of the L.A. fires.  I can imagine that they're wishing this would all be over, before the new baby arrives!

JENNY - That picture of Jonah, in the pumpkin, is just adorable!  The things that the young parents think of for photos now-a-days, are so clever and cute!  Remember when our kids were little - we just lined them up in their costumes and trick-or-treat bags, and snapped a picture.  Not much originality going on back then! LOL  ;D

MARSGAL - you and Mary Ann, are getting way ahead of me as far as the boat cams are concerned.  I haven't looked at any of them in a long time, but hope to get back again when things settle down here.

Hi to AMY, JEAN, and TOME.  Thank you for thinking about AJ and me, and wishing us well!

Mary Ann

Marilyn, it's good to hear that you still have power and I hope you are able to keep it going.  It's too bad you had to throw away food, but you have a clean refrigerator now.  i remember coming home from the cottage one time and finding lightning had hit our rotating antenna; the refrigerator was on the same circuit as the tv and the circuit was blown.  We lost a lot of food then, too

MarsGal, thanks for the info on the US Govt ship  I went up an down Lake Michigan this morning trying to find the ship and found nothing all the way to the Strait.  It took me a while now to find the icon, but I did and now I know what to look for.  I'm fortunate in that Tom put a link to Grand Haven on my computer so I don't have to go all over the map to find the ship.

Mary Ann

Amy

Marilyn, not easy living day to day wondering if you are going to have your power shut off.I hope all this can soon be resolved.
On the up side you do have a clean freezer dispute losing all the food. Must admit one job that I need to do but keep putting it off.

Well this is one we won't see on the Lakes or St. Clair River. Announced very recently, it will be build in Mississippi. The USS Harrisburg is a San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship. This is what she will look like. https://www.navy.mil/view_imagex.asp?id=297800&t=1

Mary Ann

MarsGal, I'll stick to the Great Lakes.

Mary Ann

CallieOK

I was just on the YouTube webcam for Port Huron.  Chat participants said USS Indianapolis should be coming through Port Huron about noon tomorrow (Oct. 30).  Hope I remember to "tune in".

Marilyn,  have been reading (and hearing on t.v.) about your forced power outages.  So sorry you've lost all that food.  Hard way to get freezer and fridge cleaned out.  I surely hope those wicked fires get under control soon.

Weather is miserable in central Oklahoma. Temperature is in the low 30's with wind chills in the low 20's. No real rain today but supposed to start tonight and continue through tomorrow. Halloween is supposed to be the second coldest in "recorded history".  Bleah!!!!!

Fortunately,  I had gone to grocery store on Sunday and went to Walgreen's and Braum's Dairy Store today.  So I'm set with supplies "for the duration".

I was supposed to go to Book Club tomorrow and was looking forward to the discussion of "The Secrets We Kept".  But after watching the news/weather just now....I'm staying put!
I'm another one who doesn't get dressed first thing in the morning and I may not bother at all tomorrow.  In fact, I may be tempted to stay under the covers all day!

Jenny,  I agree the picture of Jonah in the pumpkin is darling.  What a clever idea.

TTYL

Mary Ann

Callie, and others, I really felt ashamed that I didn't get dressed when I got up and rarely mentioned it because I didn't want people to know about it.  I feel much better now.  There are days when I don't get dressed at all, but those are days Tom has gone overnight.  Gee, I joined the club!!!

Thanks for the info about the USS Indianapolis reaching the St Clair River.  I'll tell Tom so he doesn't suggest eating out for lunch.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

AMY - Yes, it's kind of startling to open the freezer door, and see a clean, almost empty space.  We did buy a couple of half gallons of ice cream yesterday . . .  after all, one has to stock up on the important stuff! ha ha

CALLIE - Thanks for reminding me about Halloween!  I must remember to get some bags of candy at the store tomorrow.  Last year we had lots of trick-or-treaters, so I assume thing will be the same or more so.  It's cold here too, but not as bad as in OK.  My thermometer says 60 degrees outside right now at 3:3-, which is a little chilly for this time of year.  We know better than to wish for rain this early in the season.

MARY ANN - I looked at Grand Haven, and was sorry to see that it was not "moving"?  Just a still picture.  I tried clicking on a bunch of possibilities, but couldn't get any action.  The last I looked at it was about a week ago, to enjoy the night lights, and it was okay then?

Mary Ann

Marilyn, for Grand Haven, if you are getting what looks like a summer scene, that is not live.  You have to scroll down to the other frame.  I just did and even though it is dark, I could make out white caps near shore.

My "chef" gave me three options for supper and I chose French toast, something I haven't had for a while.

It was funny a while ago; Tom and Robin both left at the same time, I thought to go to the Bible study they've attended.  Shortly after that, it was obvious someone was at the door and I knew it was Tom.  The cat was in the living room and when there was the noise at the door, Kendrick came bounding into this room where he has a hideaway.  Tom said Bible study was over for good.

Robin does a nice, thorough job of cleaning and when I suggest anything, she is more than willing to take care of it.  I have to laugh, however, because she doesn't put things away.  I haven't been up and around to see about today, but it is nothing to find a towel on the bathroom counter or a bottle of cleaning stuff on the counter or on the edge of the bathtub.  It isn't a problem because I can put them away.

Mary Ann

MarsGal

Thanks Callie, that info will keep me from constantly checking to see how far the ship got. I just checked a while ago, and it was going quite a clip at 14.5kn. When I watched CG Hollyhock go by Marine City the other day, it gave a salute. I guess they were just happy to be sailing again. However, now they have been moored up at Goderich, CA. for a day at least. Goderich, I discovered has an important salt mining industry.

CallieOK

Marsgal, I just remembered that's noon Michigan time. Adjust accordingly.  :)

I am just stopping by to say a quick Good Morning.

I just lost a long post and I don't have time right now to try to write it all over again.  I just don't know what I do to make messages just disappear.  Makes me so frustrated.

So, I will just wish everyone a wonderful Wednesday.  Hope you get to do everything that you planned on doing.

I will try to get back later.

Mary Ann

I hate to admit this, but when I opened my eyes and looked at the clock, the clock read 10:06 am.  I don't remember the last time I slept that late.  I've stayed in bed that late, but would have woke up earlier.  It is now almost 11 am.

I'll get to the ships as soon as possible because I'm anxious to follow the USS Indps too.

I'm still not awake, but I won't go back to bed until nap time, if then.

Mary Ann

Mary Ann

MarsGal, and anyone else, from the chat on Port Huron, the USS Indy was east of Oscoda and I found a ship unidentified that could be it.  People sounded as if there was no identity now, but it should be named soon (US Govt).  Estimates yesterday were for about 4:30 pm +/-.  Now I'll go back to see what I can find.

Mary Ann

CallieOK

Marsgal,  I just saw the same thing about ETA for USS Indy.

Mary Ann,  I might not have awakened at 9:15 if the trash truck hadn't made so much noise!  Have had breakfast but still in gown/robe.
Weather is miserable with snow flurries expected this afternoon and a hard freeze tonight.  Bleah!!

Mary Ann

After quite a while, I found the US Govt icon and it is east and a bit south of Oscoda.  I don't think it will reach Port Huron by noon, since it is already past noon Michigan time.  I think I have time to get dressed, then sit and wait.

It is a damp day here today, maybe some flurries expected and our present temp is in the high 30s, like 39 degrees.  I have nothing planned and can't go anywhere unless Tom stays home and I think he's not going to be here.  I'm thankful for heat!

Mary Ann

CallieOK

YouTube chat has changed time of USS Govt arrival to 4:30 or 5:30 p.m. (estimated).  Wanna bet she manages to go through after dark and we can't see her?  :(

Mary Ann

Callie, it gets dark about 7 pm EDT here these days.  I hope she goes by in daylight.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

A quick Good Morning to everyone.  The fires are still raging, with no rain in sight until Nov. 15th, so they will have to keep fighting them with water and retardant.  I heard from my sister-in-law,  and yes, she did have to evacuate.  She went to my nieces house in Sonoma, but they had to evacuate there too.  Fortunately they have an RV, so my sil stayed with them, and drove down the coast where they would be safe. That would be my sil, my niece, her husband and their two babies, plus three dogs and a cat. I hope it was a big RV!    Today would have been my brother's 82nd birthday, so I especially wanted to contact her.

I would love to join all of you in tracking the US Gov ship, soon to be named?  I missed out on all/most of that conversation, but will try to catch up to what is going on on the lakes, ASAP.  I'm going to get ready now, and then AJ and I will go to the BIG Safeway, to stock up on food for the fridge and freezer, as well as other things that we used up over the weekend.  We have a nice Safeway here in town, but it's very small, and doesn't have room for much of a selection.  The one we'll be going to is in the city of Campbell, which is next door to us.  The store is bigger than a Costco, and is pretty tiring to walk through it, but it's worth it, and fun for a change.

Mary Ann

Marilyn, the US Govt ship does have a name but it hasn't been christened yet unless the commissioning was the christening.  I think the home base will be in Mississippi and the christening may take place there.  Anyway it is the USS Indianapolis and replaces a same-name ship that was sunk by the Japanese in 1942.  Only 300+ of over 1000 sailors survived the sinking.  When Jim and I walked along the park on the White River in Indy, I saw a monument to the ship and sailors and it was very impressive.  Tom Harton was at the commissioning Monday.

We are having a dreary day with some rain and I wish some of that rain would go to your area.  It doesn't make sense that some areas have so much rain and others have none.  I'd be glad to share!

Mary Ann

CallieOK

Mary Ann,  is Port Huron on Eastern or Central Daylight Time?

Mary Ann

Callie - Port Huron is on EDT until the end of the week, the same as the rest of Michigan.  As I type this, it is 4:30 pm EDT here.  Last I heard the USS Indy is expected about 5:30 pm EDT.  I saw it was even with Port Sanilac about a half hour ago.  I cannot judge the distances on the water.

Mary Ann,  thanks.  Oklahoma is on central daylight so I'll need to subtract an hour.

Edit:   4:53 p.m. Oklahoma time.....watched her approach, come under the bridge, make the "slide" turn and go around the corner.  Awesome!

Mary Ann

Callie, I'm glad I gave you some good information so you could watch the ship.  I watched until a minute ago.  It's too bad the weather did not cooperate and I'm sorry the ship did not salute Port Huron.  This is the second USS ship I've seen go on the St Clair River as the USS Billings went by last summer.

I made myself a ham sandwich so I could watch the doings from my chair; Tom is out but hoped to be able to watch on the computer.  I gave links to Indy Tom and I hope he was able to see the ship go by.  He was at the commissioning for a book that will be published early next year.  Tom is a free-lance writer, mostly for the Indianapolis Business Journal, but this was not for the IBJ.  I don't know if the commissioning and christening are one and the same thing.  Tom said I didn't miss much by not seeing the entire program.  The home port will be in Mississippi.

Denver

Just wanted to say goodnight to ALL.  You were all so very chatty today....I loved every one of the posts.

Busy day here......Michele had her first radiation treatments today, only 17 to go 🙏. Sadly she has quite a drive to the hospital where the treatments are being done and with the snow and cold we have been having that is NOT good.

Tomorrow we have a appointment with a lady regarding a change of residence for us......we have been thinking about this for awhile and decided it is time to make this change.  It will not happen until mid summer, and needless to say there is a lot of stuff to go through here, and I am dreading that part.

Pleasant dreams to all.

I'll have to check again, I thought USS Indianapolis was going to be stationed out of a port in Florida. Anyway, I did get to see it both on StreamTime Live and Boat Nerd. Did you notice some of the crew were out on the "balcony" waving? I got a kick out of seeing the big "garage door". This morning she is just off Cleveland. I guess we can get another chance to see her at the Welland Canal. And maybe, just maybe, the Quebec City webcam will pick her up as she goes by.

I also watched CG Hollyhock come back in to dock.

Marilyne, it is a shame you lost all that food with the power outage.

Time to get some breakfast.

Mary Ann

MarsGal, I "saw" the USS Indy at Algonac around 10 pm too.  I say "saw" because what do you see in the dark!  Yes, I noticed the sailors waving.  I tracked it to the east side of Lake Erie when I was up during the night but I haven't looked for it.  I read the ship will be based in Mississippi but I don't know if that's Biloxi or not.

Looking at radar, there is snow north of here, but rain in the lower part of the state.   I don't have anything for trick-or-treaters, probably the first time.  We haven't had kids here in years when I've bought candy and if I buy it and no one comes, we eat the candy and we do not need it.  And Kendrick does not eat people food.  I'll keep the lights off.

HELLO!!!  Anyone home?  I just thought I'd see if we were back in business and Seniors and Friends showed up - not the Gateway message.

Tom and I went to New Beginnings for lunch today and for about the third or fourth time ran into friends.  I've said the next time we go there, we should call them to make sure they'll be there too.  I don't know of anyone else we see at that particular restaurant so consistently.

During my absence from S&F I watched some ships; the ones from overseas are colorful and have a different makeup as they're mostly grain ships.  You wonder how some of them hold up on the ocean.  Many of the ships that go on the Great Lakes are too long to go through the Welland Canal.

I've had a nap but Kendrick did not join me.  He must be downstairs because he isn't in any of the hiding places up here, those I know about anyway.

I looked at Lake Michigan and there are lots of whitecaps, but there were a couple of kites flying - it is very good weather for that!

Welcome back!

Hooray.  We're back together.

I also watched boats and enjoyed seeing the big yellow one.  Also enjoyed seeing a close-up of one of the chatters sitting on a bench at Marine City.  He had just posted from a cafĂ© across the street from the sidewalk along the lake.  Lots of funny comments from those who know him on Chat.

Newest development at my house is a beautiful skunk (if skunks can be "beautiful) that's shown up under the bird feeders on several evenings during the past week.
This afternoon, I sprayed Repels-All all around the area where seeds fall on the ground and hope to discourage it.  Don't know if skunks dislike stinky stuff that isn't their own.  Just hope it won't react the same way.  :buck2:

Looking forward to chatting with all Bait and Tacklers again....
