Mary Ann - I hope tomorrow will be a better day. I understand "bad days" and I DO understand not wanting to go to church after all these years. I stopped going when I started to do so much coughing. It's a large church and most of the people are elderly. There's no way they can know I'm not contagious.

Patricia - Good advice.

Marilyne - I boil some eggs every few days. I make a simple egg salad for sandwiches and that goes well with a bowl of tomato soup.

Jean - You are fortunate to have never had the "real" flu. I had it several times over the years and it's dreadful. The body aches and high fever were the worst. My youngest daughter doesn't get the flu shot and several weeks ago she came down with it. She said she's never been so sick in her life. I have a feeling she'll be getting the shot after this!

A Good Sunday HELLO to all.

I enjoyed all of the cute graphics today and got a good chuckle out of all of them......thank you, PATRICIA and AMY!

Thank you for all of the sweet comments about Jonah and his picture......I sure appreciate all of them.  He is such a active boy, and smiles all the time....I sure love and miss no5 holding him!

Interesting to read all of the stats regarding the CV. We have 8 cases here in Colorado and they were just reveled earlier this week and as of yesterday there are no new ones!  Wish we could keep it that way but sadly I am sure it is going t9 get a lot worse before this is all over.  I did read that they think this virus has been around much longer than thought and think that many have had it and just did not realize it was this serious.  Of course the shelves are stripped clean here as in most places of any sanitizing items.  TP also as well as other staples.

Jonah and his parents are planning to come for Easter IF this virus does not get any worse and Bob and I have reservations to fly to Arizona to see my Dad in early April for his Birthday, but we are also playing it by ear,  we feel it would be much safer for us to drive down, but we have a time element involved with being here for Michele.  Oh my, so many things to consider😩 😷 🤧 🎻

BEVERLY, I understand your thoughts for not going to church.  Many people are so afraid anymore that they make you feel uncomfortable when you cough or sneeze even tho you do it in the safest way possible to not spread your germs.  I am sorry you are having some vertigo too.  Bob is doing so much better....it is not GONE, but now he can deal with it.

MARY ANN, I feel your thoughts of being home with only Tom to wait on you and the fact that you really do not have some items to eat that would be easy for you to have.  Even though you do not have much of a appetite it would be nice to have something right there that you can chew on at will.  This is my dads problem also..... the lack of his appetite, however he has Diane there to get or fix anything for him and he just does not want to eat. He is skin and bones....he is pretty much home bound and it is not a good situation.  Diane hopes we can get him out for at least a couple of drives when we are there, "to blow the stink off", Diane says, but my Dads response to that is, "I will just keep my stink"!  He just has no desire to go and do anything due to his pain and inability to get around.  Bless his heart.....it is tough to be this old and be so unhappy.

MARILYNE, I just watched the interview with your governor regarding the ship that is off the coast of SF.  A employee, that works for Mark at the golf course and his wife are on that ship.  This is their first cruise ever, and sadly it had to end this way for them.  The last Mark heard this man and wife are not sick, but who knows what is down the road for them?

PATRICIA, I am sorry that your computer was NOT fixed and now you have to ship it back again....

JEAN, it seems strange that vertigo can be started from many different things...the doctor thinks Bob's was caused from taking Sudafed when he had a head cold and it dried his ears out too much allowing the "crystals" in the ear to move around!  Who knows?

Enjoy the rest of your day.....

I enjoy the graphics too.  I've mentioned that I especially like Maxine.

I had my first outing today and I don't know how it went.  Robin, Tom and I went to the Blue Water Grill for lunch.  The only time I was comfortable was in the car, the  restaurant and car again.  It took me a long time to get dressed and is taking me a long time to recuperate.  I did enjoy the good parts, however.

Tom's back is bothering him again but tomorrow he has an appointment for physical therapy to see what can be done.

Dot brought over some kiebasa, potato, sauerkraut combo for us - at my request.  It was hot and is still on the counter so I'd better put it in the refrigerator.  There is room.

Years ago, a then-young-man from church dove into a shallow place and broke his neck.  His parents always took care of him an often brought him to church.  The doctors were going to insert a tube in his throat and he said he'd had enough and he died this afternoon.  He was 50.

FlaJean

I started a post earlier and got interested in something on TV and got distracted.

We had a beautiful day and I'm so glad for daylight savings time.  I love the longer evenings as I am a late riser in the morning.  I was up by 6 am for years when the children were in school and until my retirement.  I never got used to it but got used to sleeping later in the morning with no trouble at all.  I guess I'm just a night person.

Everything is quiet here.  Larry has been watching something on Netflix and I just finished Donna Leon's latest book "Trace Elements".

Mary Ann, have you seen the advertisement for those cup-like foods that you drop in an egg and stick them in the Microwave for a couple of minutes and have a prepared snack.  They make them look so tasty on the TV. 😊. You can also get puddings that are already prepared.  I've tried those energy drinks, but after a couple of days I don't even want to look at one much less drink it.  I hope you can think of something to give your appetite a jolt.

Well, I guess I'll go and see what snacks are in my pantry.  It's been quite a while since lunch.  Have a good evening, everyone.

Mary Ann

Patricia, I have tried Boost and have four cans in the refrigerator. I have no aversion to them, I just don't think about them. I am close to the weight I was when I had the attack.

Jean, I have seen those cups but I am not that fond of eggs.  I do eat boiled eggs once in a while and a couple of days ago, I ate two with mustard and and dressing.  Tom fixes scrambled eggs often; they taste good with colorful vegetables, but again, I am not that fond of them.

MaryAnn, I removed my post but it was more on what works for me as a diet. It sounds to me as you might ask Tom, Dot or one of your aides about  what would work for you. Perhaps cut up cheese, crackers or meats on a refrigerated plate? Or easy options for you to fix when you're hungry?

What sounds interesting, easy for you to prepare, and to your own taste?

Mary Ann.
Now do you have any of the food delivery for people over 60 can get on. We hv 2 here. One being Meals on Wheels. Volumteers deliver them. They are quite good. I worked for them when I retired for awhile. You get a list of what each day will be. Free to lot of seniors but about $3 if can afford to pay. I think it runs by State. Some I delivered to it lasted both for Lunch and Dinner. Their Kitchen is very clean. You do need to keep up strength and not loose weight. those drinks in can would be hard to take every meal,. I know people who take 3 times a day. There are a few meals in the grocery freezers that are quite good but have to read labels. Also the deli Dept put meals together.

I might be scarce for a while. It looks like Microsoft is having trouble updating something. My startup goes so far and then starts over trying to load my desktop. Not only that, but the other week my desktop kind of died the other week. I think the hard drive died. I haven't gotten around to fixing that yet. Super! My taxes are ready to e-file. Well, I still have a month to fix the machines. And, I still have the tablet, although, I don't like to use it much for net surfing and especially not for paying bills. I don't trust the security on it that much.

Good morning! It may be "a cold day in July" before I am here this early again.  :) I was up at 6:30 and saw a beautiful full moon. An hour later and daylight is just beginning.

Jean - Like you, I'm a late sleeper and I am so happy for the longer evenings. Last night I couldn't sleep much so after I'd been in bed nearly 8 hours I decided to get up.

I drink Ensure Plus for a snack in the evening and to keep me from losing weight. I'm not supposed to drink it in place of a meal. It took me awhile to get used to it but now it's a treat. It has quite a bit of sugar but not much more than a glass of orange juice.

Mary Ann - At least going out to lunch gave you a chance to get out of the house. There are times I just don't want to go anywhere but when I do it does a lot for my morale.  Sounds like it was difficult getting from house to car, etc. Hope you enjoy the kielbasa/sauerkraut dinner today. So sad about that young man from church.  :(

The first case of CV in New Hampshire was a young resident at Dartmouth Hitchcock Hospital in Lebanon who had recently returned from Italy. He felt sick and went to a doctor who took some tests and told him to self-quarantine. That night (Friday) he went to a big party for doctors and other staff. On Monday he got the diagnosis of CV, meaning he had likely exposed several people. Can't imagine someone in the medical field being so irresponsible.

Mary Ann

I'm up and expecting a therapist in 15 minutes.  I'm fortunate that I can wear my night clothes with the ladies.

Tom just returned from PT and said it was mostly muscular and he'll work on that.

Almost time for someone to come - we'll see who shows up.

Mary Ann

Amy

Mary Ann, I looked after a 92 yr old and he did not like the taste of Boost or Ensure but one night while we were in the hospital for his 50th blood transfusion a nurse aske if he would like a Boost. I mentioned he didn't care for them so she asked if he would like a milk shake which he said yes to. She took me aside and showed me what she did. She took the Boost, put ice cubes in it to get it real cold, took the ice out and then she added cream to it. He loved it!!! I know it was a sneaky way to get it in him but it helped. Not saying this is for everyone but it did help my friend.

Marilyne

Beverly - good to see you here first thing this morning!  My last night was about like yours.  I was so tired at 10:00 that I could hardly keep my eyes open, but of course it was only 9:00, according to my body clock, (which is still on Standard time, and will be for the next couple of days).  ::)  I did go right to sleep, but only slept until midnight, and then was awake until 5:00.  Drifted off intil 7:30, so altogether, I had about four hours sleep.  I'm also supposed to drink Ensure or Boost, to keep my weight from dropping, and to give me much needed protein. My protein levels are usually too low when I have a blood test.  I think I mentioned before, that I discovered Premier Protein drink, at Costco, and I now like it the best.  It's not as sweet as the other two, but is sweet enough.  It has 30mg of protein.

Mary Ann - You're probably having your physical therapy right now, as I'm typing this?  I hope you'll be feeling stronger, today, and more comfortable, moving around the house.  I do remember you mentioning going to Blue Water Grill, in that past, and that you used to like it. Is that the one with the outdoor area that looks like a beach? if so, I'm sure it's too cold in GR, to sit outside?  It's still too cold here in Los Gatos, to sit outside!

Speaking of eating, I'd better think about. breakfast, as it's already 8:40 here, and I've had nothing but coffee.  I think I'll make myself some French toast with some white bread that's getting a little dry.  I'll be back soon, to say hello to everyone else who has posted.

Mary Ann

It is 2:15 here and I've had therapists here since 10:30 this morning.  The first one was a speech therapist and I mentioned my right leg was weeping.  She called the one who was to come tomorrow; she came about 11:30 and just left.  She has been on the phone a lot with my doctor's office and my cardiologist's office.  I have not had anything to eat this morning.  Tom got into the act and now has gone to the store to get some Endure (or similar) and to get me a malted that will give me something nourishing.  The therapist found that I was taking two diuretics with different names.  She has worked a lot for me and will be back later today.  As I've said, it isn't easy being old - or old age is not for sissies  No one has ever accused me of being a sissy!  I have not dressed today and I will not the rest of the day.  I may spend the rest of the day with my right leg up.

I hate having people wait on me.

Mary Ann - sounds like today has not been a good one.  I hope that by now all of your doctors have been contacted, and that whatever is causing the problem with your leg has been taken care of.  Also, taking the two diuretics, was not a good thing.  That likely was contributing  to your feeling of being tired and not hungry.  I'm thinking about you, and looking forward to seeing a message from you.

Jenny - Good that you're going ahead with plans to fly to AZ next month for you Dad's birthday.  By then, Bob will probably feel better, plus the CV health scare will not be as bad.  Better that Jonah and parents are flying to Colorado for Easter, rather than you and Bob going there.
You haven't mentioned Michele in a while, so I'm thinking that she's still in this latest round of chemo?   I hope this one isn't as hard on her as the others, but no matter how hard - if it helps her to go into remission, that's what's important!

Jean - I love those Cozy Shack, ready to eat puddings from the grocery story.  They are delicious, and so creamy.  I would eat them often, but I have a problem with lactose intolerance, so I can't eat very much dairy.  However, I can eat some, with no bad effects, so I pick and choose carefully.  Like you, I quickly tire of the energy drinks like Ensure.  I always have them here, when I feel my energy level dropping, and I think they really help.

Mary Ann

#17056
I slept from mid afternoon until about 8:30 and got up to go to the bathroom and to have something to eat.  I was going to eat what I had eaten at the restaurant, but Tom said the veggies were no good so he subbed some some crackers with the dip.  That did not go over good, so he gave me an Ensure which I am in the midst of drinking now,  I am going back to bed when finish the Ensure.  I feel fairly human right now but I am not going to stay up.  I am sure I've had a buddy sleep with me much of the time.

My leg has bled a bit and I have an appointment with the cardiologist in the morning.  I do not like morning appointments but that is  the only one available they had so I took that one.

I'm not fond of the Ensure, but I think I might like it more if it were colder which it is not.  Tomorrow is another day and I'll try to keep you posted.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Mary Ann - Oatmeal would be very good for you.  It's filling and easy to digest.  Plain toasted bread and butter is good too.

Beverly

Mary Ann - I like Ensure very cold. I don't like it room temperature. Glad you are feeling better after some sleep.

I'm going to try to see the Super Moon before I go to bed.

Mary Ann

Marilyn, I don't care for oat meal, but Beverly the bread and butter sound good  I am wearing the wrong glasses so I hope I can see what i'm doing.  The right glasses are in my bedroom and I will go after them soon.

We spent much of the morning at the cardiovascular's off; I think she is a PA and I like her very much.  She changed some of the scripts so I have one or two less.  She told me what some of them were for and I knew what some of them were for.  That was the trouble with having too many doctor prescribe- there was a dup[ication and one of them sounded like my diuretic so I figured it was a replacement.

I rigged up something to raise my knees but it is a sub for what I think Tom can take care of with little or no trouble.

Beverly, I am now going to get an Ensure.  I'll be back later, especially of anything develops or if I do anything.  I hate this to be all about me, but I'm all that cares about me this minute.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Mary Ann - don't worry about it being, "all about me"!   When things go wrong with our health, or with our family, that's all we can think about, so that's what we write about here in Seniors and Friends.  We want to hear how you're doing, so try to write whenever you feel up to it.   I'm glad you saw the PA at your cardiologist's office.  sounds like she is sharp, and noticed that you have too many medications.

CallieOK

Good Morning from a sunny but cool central Oklahoma,

The spring bulbs and the Bradford Pear trees are out "in full force" so it finally looks like Spring around here.

Mary Ann,  I agree with Marilyne.  It's okay for things to be all about you and we're glad you're sharing with us.
I think PAs are often better than doctors about taking a long look at situations.

Beverly,  so nice to see another one who isn't "up and at'em" early in the morning.  I tell my friend who is that I get as much done during a day as she does;  I just start and end later.

Jenny,  I hope all the travel plans for you and your family work out.  I smile every time I see that precious picture of Jonah.

I've been to the hair dresser, the bank and Braum's Dairy Store.  Now home to either find Domestic Duties to do or spend a "leisurely" rest-of-the-day reading.  Wanna guess which it will be?  ;D

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

Mary Ann

I had a new therapist today - just what I need.  She is an occupational therapist, asked if I could dress myself, take care of my meds, etc.  Actually, I have been able to take care of most of my needs, except transportation and meals.  Tom takes care of some of them by his choice and I let him.

The PA mentioned the weepy leg was much because of my age.  As we age, our skin gets thinner and that allows things to happen.  Tom had it happen a few years ago but it was because of his heavy legs.  His legs are still heavy but he has been losing some weight.

Robin will come tomorrow and we will look better again.  This place is a mess and she does such a good job that lasts for a few days before it looks like a mess again.  I don't do a good job of picking up, especially when I don't feel like it.  Then, Tom does not do the laundry as he should and I don't have clean clothes to wear.  All of you, stay well!!!

It has been a nice day with the sun shining, temp about 50 +/-.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Mary Ann - Looks like you're feeling a little better this afternoon, and that the "weeping leg", is not serious.  I'm glad Robin is coming over tomorrow, and will get things cleaned up for you.  Maybe even do some of your laundry?

I hope you have a nice nourishing dinner tonight, with plenty of protein, and something sweet for dessert!  I bought a lemon cake at the store today, that looks delicious - wish I could give you a big slice!

Good Evening  Mary Ann ...

I worry about you... I know you
think that I shouldn't,  but I do.

I hope that Robin helps you
out tomorrow and helps gets things
straightened around.

Here is a hint of how I keep ahead
of my laundry.    I keep an
over abundance of underwear,
panties and undershirts,   on hand
so I can go a long time before having
to have to go to the laundry mat.

I also hand was those two items and hang
them on a wooden dryer (in my tub)
So I am always way ahead in
the underwear department! The rest
of my clothes don't get that dirty.

Just a couple of suggestions
to make things easier for you ...
not that I expect you to do
hand laundry,   but stocking up
on underwear can make you less
anxious about wash day being
later then you would like...

Please take care MaryAnn
love
Sandy

Beverly

Good morning (almost noon). Another beautiful day here in Florida.

Mary Ann - Hope you are having a good morning. Maybe Robin will help get your laundry done while she's there.

Callie - We had a beautiful Bradford pear tree in our front yard in Bristow. I loved having the blossoms in Spring and the red-orange leaves in the fall. The winter before we moved there was a big snowstorm (14 inches!), unusual for Oklahoma. The snow was wet and heavy and the Bradford Pear split right down the middle.   :(

Marilyn - I like oatmeal but Cream of Wheat is even better with a little maple syrup (the real stuff) added.

I had my hair cut yesterday and made an appointment for a perm in a few weeks. My hair is thin and fine and doesn't like the straight look!

Sandy - My kids tell me the weather has been Spring-like up there so hope you can get out soon and walk a little in the fresh air.

Marilyne

Beverly - My hair is also fine and thin, and I look like a real hag, with straight hair. (long or short!) I always have bangs, with the rest about chin length.  I have to use a curling iron, to give it some shape and body.  I'm also considering a perm??

Mary Ann - Hope we hear from you soon, as to how you're doing today?  It would be great if Robin could get things organized, as to groceries, laundry, etc.  Men are notoriously poor at prioritizing domestic duties.  (At least in this household!)

Sandy - I also have one of those old wooden dryer racks. They come in handy for all sorts of things.

Callie - Looks to me like you accomplished a lot yesterday!  I hope to do the same today.  I did go to the grocery store yesterday, which is now considered to be a no-no, for us old folks, here in this coronavirus epicenter.  :yikes:

Jenny - hope we hear from you today also?

wjoan - If you're looking in, let us know how you're doing?

Mary Ann

It has been an interesting, confusing morning.  I got up about 9 am to the tune of Tom's alarm going off.  It is in the base for his phone and he was gone.  He loves gadgets and has both Siri and Alexa here.  Alexa works up here but Siri does not.  I called to both to see if I could get the alarm off and could not.  About the time I got out of bed, Tom came home and was able to turn off the alarm.  While I was on the toilet, my phone rang.  I have phones in the den, kitchen and bedroom but I do not carry one with me such as a cell phone so I let it ring.  I picked up the phone to see who was calling, saw the name but accidentally erased all of my held calls.  Somehow or other even though the calls were erased, there were some calls on the phone and I could get the call, but I had too many numbers for the call.  In the meantime, Annie came with a muffin and some iced tea.

I had drank some Ensure for breakfast and found I could tolerate that amount of liquid so I am going to use an empty Ensure bottle to take my pills.  I called my therapist back and she was not available but called me back.  She will be here tomorrow.  They are concerned about the weeping but I'm glad to find the weeping has decreased.  I am trying to elevate the legs and that does help.

Annie brought a muffin which does not go down but the iced tea does.  It is 1:25 and I don't know what I will eat, maybe toast.  She brings something our of love and I hate not to eat it because I used to like cranberry muffins a lot and Mc Donald's discontinued them.  I know I have to eat something and I will find something.  Right now I'd rather go back to bed with the cat; he loves an afghan I made years ago,

I will be glad when Robin is here because we can try to organize things.  This morning first thing, I could not connect to the Internet.  I turned off the computer and got it started up again.  You've all had that happen - "cannot connect to the server".  Robin will be here about 3 pm and she has a key  (it seems everyone has a key!)

Now I'll browse to see what is going on.

Mary Ann

Beverly

Mary Ann - It must have been frustrating being unable to turn off Tom's alarm! Glad he finally came home. Is the problem with eating the muffin no appetite or a swallowing problem?  Cranberry muffins are my favorite.

Marilyne - We must be twins! :D. That paragraph about your hair could have been written by me. Even the bangs and the curling iron! I've had bangs of some sort my whole life. If you'd like to try a perm, ask them for a body perm. It will give your hair more "oomph" and make it easier to style with the curling iron.

I've neglected some potted plants this week and they were wilting, so I just watered them all. Some of them need what Norm used to call "doing the blue".  :)

It's turned out to be a warm day. It's 85 now.

Mary Ann

My, are we clean now.  My family and Robin have worked like beavers to get rid of stuff and reorganize and other things.  I'd like to be able to keep things straight, but I would not bet on it.  Robin fixed my bed with small pillows to elevate my feet, then Annie went to a pillow store and bought a long pillow for my feet and a wedge for my head.

I rested while Robin vacuumed and Sue (Tom's former wife) called so we had a long chat and I learned her mother will be moving soon to Greenville MI from Sheridan MI.  It will be a shame because she has made many friends in Sheridan and has established herself in the Congregational church there.  There is a Congregational church in Greenville but will have to have someone take her there too.  She is a very personable person so I know she will make friends soon and easily.  Greenville is nearer Grand Rapids so I am sure Tom and I will drive up a bit more often to see her.

Mary Ann
