Oldiesmann: Relevant links can be found in topics in the Homemaking, Food & Garden board. I'll see about moving them over to articles here when I get a chance.

2024-05-02, 00:07:54
Oldiesmann: Found them. They're on the CP site: https://www.christianphotographers.com/recipes/recipeindex.html

2024-05-01, 23:57:58
Oldiesmann: I'm not finding anything related to recipes on the site. I'll do some digging through the Internet Archive and see if I can dig them up. It's possible that got lost in the big server crash back in 2016

Domestic Goddess: Is this correct, if one would like to post/share a recipe, we do so here?  If so, was searching to see if there were separate recipe categories?

Oldiesmann: The chat can be accessed from the menu but I don't kow how often anyone is in there

Jackie - Singing talent was not a requirement for the Dumdiddy singers!  ;)

Beverley...
... ok then, put my name down on the vacancy list...

FlaJean

Another bright sunny day here in northwest Florida.  Not much going on in our area.  The weather is about the same from day to day with with the hot sunny days and an occasional rainy day.

The neighborhood is so quiet.  Larry and I have both been mostly reading and just staying in the air conditioning and there hasn't been much going on.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Marilyne

Beverly  -  THANK YOU, for posting that lovely picture of the Senior Net ladies from the past!  Besides Gladys, the only other one I recognize is Katie Sturtz?  I think that's her in the bright persimmon red dress??  Let us know who the others are?  (Maybe you already did, and I missed it?)

I agree with you on the "Sipping' Soups".  Getting the lid off is a major production, and I don't want to ever tackle it again!  However, the carrot/tomato flavor, sounds good in the pop top can. I do eat a lot of soup, so I'm always looking for something different.

Sounds like my Lab Corp, for blood draw, is now set up exactly like you described your dentist.  My doctor sends the order directly to the lab.  Then you drive up and call them on your cell phone.  They came out to the car and get you.  No sitting in a waiting room.  That was what I didn't like about the dermatologist . . . I had to sit in a small wait room with six other patients.  Everyone was wearing a mask, but the room is so tiny, that there was no way to arrange it so there was a six foot division.  More like two or three feet at best.  I felt very uncomfortable, becauseI had to wait a long time.

Well, I'm rambling here, so best that I come back later to say hello to the rest of you.  It's almost 9:00, and I'm hungry for breakfast.

Beverly

Marilyne - Katie Sturtz was in the group but not in this picture. From left to right are India Brown, Gladys, P.Roe Wyatt, Pat Howe and Pat Scott.

Jean - Nice day here, too. The temp is 96 but I have no plans to be outside!

Beverly, the picture of the Dumdiddys sent me browsing through my scrapbook looking at pictures of on-line friends I was able to meet in person at several Bashes.  Thanks for the memories.

Marilyne,  I cancelled two "maintenance appointments" because I would have had to wait in the car - in 100ยบ heat!  Was able to have that annual "Wellness Check" because that doctor's waiting room is large enough and marked for social distancing.  I also think they are scheduling "maintenance appointments" first thing in the morning and far enough apart that there aren't many waiting at one time.

Jackie, one thing I think we widows have to accept is that emotional memories of our loved ones don't stick in the minds of others as long as they do in ours - and find a way to smile and carry on.
I am so proud of you for seeing to this move and am confident that You Can Do It!!  I'm looking forward to a positive report when you're There And Settled In.  :smitten:

Yesterday was "one thing after another" - all of which turned out well but left me mentally exhausted.  However, I'm determined to have a "leisurely" day today and that's starting out well, also.

Hoping Everyfriend finds something Enjoyable about today.

Great seeing the photo of Gladys and ladies. She always wore high heels as was quite short. Sort of like me. 5ft 2". I think I wore heals all the time until I was about 66 and retired. Now only wear good flats or at most 1 inch for dress.

Can't believe that heat for the UK. Thing is not many have A/C don't know about the new cars now. I can't remember up North ever getting hot weather. Lots of rain. I won't be back this year now. It is usually nice when I go either May or Sept.People say I bring the sun with me.
Perfect here right now 74 deg. but starting Monday back in the 90s again.Rain also which does help.
Think I will get out and enjoy.
Son of my friends passed at 57 and funeral tomorrow 35 miles away. Hate not going but I am staying away from any kind of crowds. Don't know how big this funeral will be.

...i will be taking a Betty's loaf cake  ( now which one do i take, the lemon and lime or the stem ginger ) ( in fact both are defrosting out from the freezer as i type ) - mugs - tea bags - coffee - teaspoon - sugar - milk and kettle if i can get the kettle into a suitcase...So as to sit down, once the removals have bought in my sofa and armchair for a celebratory and well earned feast once we reach the other side....Providing the electric is on...my current provider had guaranteed i wont be without electric when i arrive...Besides with temps hitting the mid 90's, i will need to put both my oscillating floor fans on...

Have not been here for a few days, so I had to go back and see the photo that Beverly had posted.

I am sorry that I never got to any of the bashes. Most of them were never close enough for me to go.  And, also, back then, I wasn't as familiar with as many of the group. I was familiar with Pat Scott, Pat Howe, P Roe, and Gladys, and I knew the other name, India,  but didn't really post in any boards that she did .  However, it seemed to be a very nice group of friends, just like it is now. I can think of several others who posted a lot.  Just can't remember names that good.  One had goats, I think.  And, they used to have a "bus" that would go around and pick up ones for the bashes.  I think I remember Pat Scott drove the bus???  Fun days !!!

But, I do remember Gladys very well. She was always so much fun.  And, Pat Howe was from Maryland, but, I never got to meet up with her.  She lived quite a ways from me. But, back then, there were posting boards for a lot of the individual states.  And, Pat Howe and I were the ones that started the Maryland group.  I miss those individual groups.  That is where I go to know Mary Ann, as Norm would offer "passports" to join the Michigan state group.  It was nice to hear about all the different things that went on in each one's state.

Thanks, Beverly, for posting the picture.  Nice to remember the old times.

Have a safe day.

I want to especially thank Bubble for all she does to keep this site running and also when we notify her to let Michael know when we have technical issues!

Beverly, thank you for posting that photo! I was never able to go to a Bash, but Adrienne was kind enough to make copies with a small fee for those who wanted them from bashes she went to. So I have a CD of a Dumdiddy performance with a lot of good-natured heckling and laughter!

P.Roe wasn't a fan of nicknames. She once asked me my real name and then said as it was a perfectly good one, why didn't I use it? I remember she was so proud of her sons. India, in a forum, gave me the nickname of Junior Senior as I was only 49 when I joined the group.

Gladys often asked if I knew her nephew, who lived in either Wasilla or Haines. She never quite understood that he lived 500 miles from me, so I had never met him. I also loved her stories about her garden around a tree. Her relatives, for some forgotten reason, took exception to how she reached her garden. So, in her eighties, she climbed out of the window!

Pat Scott, I never really knew other than being in the Card Readers, and we had our instructions from her in the administrative site. I do remember hearing about her adventures with her first husband, Jack, and her dog, Geordie. Pat Howe, I loved her comments and her conversations with Norm and others she knew well. I thought she sounded fun. I miss the old SeniorNet, it was so new to me, meeting and joking with folks I'd never met in person but wished I had!

Adrienne and I still keep in touch, and so many others left good memories!

Callie, it isn't only widows or widowers. My daughter died at 18 in May 1991, and no one remembers or wants to speak of her. One of her young cousins, at four, used to follow her everywhere and always pleaded to spend the night. Now, she swears she never met her, has no memory of her.

I did not get this finished as I had a message telling of a dear friend from high schools recent death.....I still do not know what happened, but she just celebrated her Birthday on the first and many of us were all talking together about how old we are feeling.....she was not sick at all to any of our knowledge.  Feeling so sad.😢😩

A good Wednesday HELLO to ALL 🦋

I tried to get in a couple of times to post yesterday, but found the site was down.

BEVERLY, I sure enjoyed seeing the pictures from the PA Bash.  All of those sweet ladies have passed on. To be honest, it seems like yesterday when we were all in PA after that horrid 9/11. I will never ever forget the wonderful time we all had and the patriotism that I saw as we drove all over the NE and Canada after.  IF only we could see that unity again.  Flags flying everywhere and candles burning in so many windows😩

JACKIE, the high temperatures are going to be a challenge for you as you are moving, but hopefully they will not last too much longer. You are indeed getting down to just hours now until the big day😘

Yesterday Michele had her MRI, so we are holding good positive thoughts and saying prayers that her report will Clear🙏🙏🙏 A couple of friends had a small gathering of families to celebrate her NOT having to go to chemo today🥰🥰.

Yesterday we took a drive to pick up a free Colorado State Park Pass for the month of August that is given to veterans.  One of our large reservoirs is close to where we were so we drove in and enjoyed the views.

I need a haircut again and as usual I keep putting it off, but when I go I feel so much better!  Hope to do that today.

Enjoy the rest of your day.

Patricia - Knowing P. Roe, I think she was being facetious. P. Roe was a name she began using when she was young because she disliked her real name. She's even listed as P. Roe in her obituary. We tried for years to get her to tell us her real name. In later years she finally gave in. If I remember right, it was Patricia!  :) We expected something like "Petunia"!  We all told her that was a great name. As far as nicknames, two of her sons had nicknames. She loved Norm and Papa John. She and Gladys were close friends.  P. Roe was one of a kind!

Patricia - I join you in thanking Bubble for all she does here in Seniors and Friends!

Jenny - I'm so sorry about your friend's son. 57 is way too young. I hope Michele's report is good. Check the Photo forum soon!

Joy - Thanks for reminding me of the state forums. I read them all at the time. We even had one for Vermont. Pat Howe and her husband Doug visited us here in Florida for several days and we had a good time. It's sad that so many of the SNers have passed on.

Time now ( UK ) just touching 6.am, been up since 4.30 am already doing this and that, packing food tins - packets, sellotaping loose foodstuff lids and jars, my bed-linen etc...My MS body is not good at the moment, been literally shuffling around, and pushing myself to do things that need doing before the removals get here at 8.am, my friend who is taking me also coming at 8.am to give me a hand...All bin rubbish and shredded paper to dispose of to the outside bins later...Onsite park-home manager is soon coming to safe guard my electric -gas  - water stopcock, i need to take readings of meters...the fridge to be turned off, only fresh milk, two yogurts, sliced ham, plum tomatoes, half doz eggs, half a dozen butters...

Not yet put the kettle on but not sure that is wise as my bladder has been literally on overtime this past few days, i have given up how many TENA pads i have gotten through...

Still working, doing bits and pieces....If tomorrow when BT engineer comes to set up my landline-tv and computer, that's if he does manage to do it, if we can find where in the building the line is, or whatever  the instructions sent via email, i shall post and let you know how the move went and that i arrived safely, if you dont see a poating from me it will be that the engineer is having problems...I remember the problem Richard and i had 3-4 years ago when we moved here, went on for a good 5 weeks..

...drinking a cup of tea and i need to get a move on and wash and dress myself for the 3 hour car journey, the removals and friend will be here in an hour & 10 minutes...

angelface555

Bev, P. Roe's actual name was Peggy.

10 minutes till friend and removals arrive...Thank you to all who have wished me a safe journey and wished me luck in my new home, which is back home...I have washed and put on my travelling glad-rags, a nice jersey dress for comfort and i look dressed up for business when i meet the residents -landlord at the other end, i am looking smart and clean..Also still awaiting my on site park-home manager to secure and give me meter readings..My friend should have her labels on her, i need to label some large plastic containers as to which room to place them in, mainly bed-linen - and tins-jar-packet foodstuffs, 3 plastic containers...8.am all should soon be here...

so_P_bubble

Good luck in your new location, Jackie. Take your time settling in: don't rush and get totally exhausted.

No need to thank you, I gladly do it, since I believe we are all good old friends :)I just wish we had the numbers from good old days... Those days were really much fun.

Today is the first day of the rest of our life, enjoy it!

Patricia - You are right! I couldn't remember for sure but did know it was a perfectly good name.

Jackie - Good luck with your move! I hope you can get connected to the internet soon.

Bubble - I really do miss all those who used to be here. I'm glad I have  pictures to remember them by.

And we're lucky you share them with us, Bev!

I'd like to thank everyone who played my last quiz and thanks to our winners, Amy, Marilyne, and Jenny!

Jackie, I just want to wish you lots of happiness as you make this move.  I know it will be a difficult couple of days, but I am sure everything will work out well.  I am so happy that you found a nice friend that is helping you with this move.  Good Luck !!

Marilyne

One of those mornings when things just don't go as they are supposed to.  I had an appointment for a blood draw, and thought I was all set up ahead of time, but there were details, questions, and a few glitches,  that had to be addressed . . . plus a urine sample that I didn't know would be required. No success on that order, so I have to return later this afternoon to drop it off.  ::)  :-[

Beverly - I so enjoyed looking at the picture you posted, even though I didn't know any of the women.  I was sure wrong on thinking the woman to the left was Katie Sturtz.  I've seen a few photos of Katie, long ago. I do think that she and India, look similar in face and hair style?  I'm probably way off on that comparison, since I never actually saw either one of them.

Jenny - I will be holding positive thoughts for Michele, that her MRI will show good results from this last grueling round of chemo.  She has so much to live for, and I will be praying that she will be cancer free.

Patricia - Thank you for posting the last quiz.  It was a toughy, but with AJ's help, we managed to figure it out!  I haven't looked at the new one yet, but will, as soon as I get home from the lab this afternoon.

Jackie - I'm thinking about you today, and hoping that everything runs smoothly with your move.  It will be like starting a whole new phase of your life.  It  sounds like a lovely area, where you will be able to get out and about, and can meet new people, if you want to.  You will have many more choices, as to how you spend your time, and who you spend it with.  I'm looking forward to hearing about your new home, once you get settled.

Beverly

Marilyne - I've posted a picture of Katie Sturtz in the Photos forum. Many of these people posted in the "International Cafe" or "Bis' Nest" on SeniorNet. Sorry your day got off to a bad start!

MarsGal

Jackie, hope your movie goes well and we hear from you soon.

Jenny, I do hope that Michele's MRI comes back showing her finally cancer free after all the treatments she has been through.

I managed to get out and do a little weeding yesterday afternoon. Easy pulling after the rain we had overnight. This morning is rainy again, and I expect it to continue off and on throughout the day. Guess I will pick around at doing some more housework today. Otherwise, not much has been going on lately.

We had a safe journey, never hit any traffic jams, although the journey including one Motorway Junction stop-off, bladder emptying- sandwich and coffee drunk in the car, arrived a couple of hours later than i had told the estate agents to meet us with the fob key...even the off site manageress, a young relief one today has just this minute handed me a form to fill in but has to rush off, ( not permanent soon to be leaving,  nor is anyone residential to help anyone here, we really have to look after ourselves, and my MS body has never been so bad, i literally am falling over, my balance has never been as bad as it is at present ) My friend and removals did not stay long, left me all by myself to un-pack, i have stuff all over the place as i cant put one step in front of the other fall falling..an very little to grab hold of with a bent over body..As you can see i am now online as BT engineer set me up this morning for landline phone and my computer connection, but he done it in a strange way connection points are all over the place so i doesn't look too nice but at least i am up and running on the computer, as for the tv, he never connected it to the hub box, so have to use another remote control and i cant get to record nor catch-up with my recordings, everything now is so so different to what i had previously been used to, nor did he set my printer up to the desk top computer i am using. I did eventually get some sleep but the noise of traffic is not something i have ever been used to going whizzing by day or night...and the heat is touching the mid 90's F...
At present i can only make it to one armchair, that's all i have got as the 7 foot sofa would not get in, on a bend, so is propped upwards in the corner wall, of my smaller than the sitting room  bedroom..does not look very pretty, told them to make it safe so it doesn't topple over me onto the bed when i am sleeping. And of course i dont want to be having to get rid of this 3 seater sofa, as this was bought new just 3-4 years ago, also is going through a damage claim as this is the same sofa that the ambulance and police crew threw my Richards head against the day he had died in his armchair whilst they were all circling around him on the floor trying to get him back, some blood and dark brown had come from his mouth due to the tube they put down his throat, so although they have the photo, the guarantees, the coroners death certificate, the date he died, i have to hang onto it until they have completed their checks they will either pay out or they will not pay out...
Well still items to unpack, stuff to get rid of, this is definitely down sizing...but my MS body has never ever been this bad, i literally.. cant do anything else, and no one here to help me, i cant even carry without spilling a cup of tea from a foot or two away.....To make matters worse, the few doors around my corridors has a " do not disturb " sign on their door...Did i mention our today's temperature is mid 90's F...I have the curtains drawn, and a floor fan going...

JeanneP

Jackie
Just stop looking at the mess. Sit down and rest. It's not going anywhere.after the weekend try to find some pay out help. In senior places you will not get any from tennents. Lots of Do not disturb signs I notice where my friend lives. Mgr. will find some who need the money.

Just put the kettle on. Make tea. Then take a nap. Bugger  the work for the weekend.
JeanneP

Marilyne

JeanneP - Good advice for Jackie!

Jackie - Don't let the moving mess overwhelm you!   It will take a long time for you to get everything put away, and things arranged as you want them to be.  Try not to be in a hurry, as it will only wear you down and make you feel depressed and upset.   It will all get done eventually.   It's good that you got your TV and computer connected so quickly. It takes much longer here for those tech things to get set up. Take frequent breaks, and remind yourself how glad you are to get away from your park home.  Remember that you were never happy there, after Richard passed.   Now you can start a new phase of your life.

I have done a fair bit of crying, sat down a lot trying to recuperate my body but not working, still trying to push myself to do a bit here and there...I have my rollator near me but the plastic containers and cardboard boxes are in the way, some i have tried to shift, otherwise i have had to lift - turn sideways my rollator but with very little to hang onto is not a safe option for me as my MS body is behaving at present...My landlord ( i am renting from a tenant living in this building ) lives opposite me just a few feet away, ( a do not disturb ) sign on his door, but one lady neighbour when i asked her what do we do with all this unpacking paper, there is a lot, the cardboard boxes i have folded apart from the one which is filled up to the top with the extortionately amount used white plain wrapping paper, told leave at the far end, otherwise it is down to us to go down in the lift to wherever the outside bins are kept and dispose of it ourselves, well she knocked on his door, he popped his head out, i introduced myself and told him i am his tenant, he mentioned coming to see me later but, time now is 7.pm, no sign of him, yet i leave my front door propped wide open for whoever wants to pop in to me to say hello, or better still offer to give me hand, but no...
