Mornin all.  Supposed to be 97 degrees here today.  UGH.  Not fond of hot days.  Glad I am not out in it.

Have a load of laundry to do today.  Did the colored clothes yesterday so today I will do the whites and then am done for a bit.  Also need to make out the grocery list for Dan for tomorrow.

Have a good day all and Hugs all around,

MaryPage

There is a front page story in this mornings local paper (The CAPITAL, Annapolis, Maryland) to the effect that one of the people on Hillary Clinton’s short list for VP is an Academy grad.  I had not known this, but he sounds great, if you want to google the article.
Retired four-star Admiral James George Stavridis, class of 1976.
The article likes him a LOT.  He served 4 YEARS as Supreme Allied Commander of NATO, among other prestigious assignments.
I'm not trying to be political here;  just sharing some local bragging on one of our one time middies.  I thought seeing as how I hadn't a clue he was on the list, plus not a clue as to who he is, most likely you hadn't either!  He is not a politician, nor has he ever been in politics.

I have been watching
Admiral James George Stavridis for days...
I also think that he would be an
awesome choice ....  !!!!

It is 81 with low humidity here on the rocky
coast of Maine...   Hooray for low humidity!

Well they are telling us we will be in the high 90s until at least next Tuesday.  It is the humidity that is bothering me. Making it 104 deg . Just have to stay indoors again.

Was reading the Weather report in UK checking on my family weather. Amazing. UK also up in the 90s. France, Germany.  I never say weather like that. Thing is most homes in all the places . No A/ C.  I laughed at my family when they were remodeling about 4 years ago and put in Central Air. Haven't used it much but I bet they have it going now.

Before I could go after the mail, the rains came, accompanied by lightning and thunder.  I can tell you the noise didn't bother the cat.  At one clap of thunder, he did lift his head, but he didn't head for shelter from the noise.  After the storm was over, I sneezed - then he got up and went to a favorite chair!  I haven't looked to see how much rain fell, but I'll bet at least an inch, maybe two.  The temp dropped to the mid 70s but is going back up and is quite humid.  I find the humidity does bother me so I'll turn the air back on.

JeanneP

It has not cooled down any here. Going to be closer to 100 tomorrow they say.

Me putting my letter about the State and the mess they have made getting your License Plate yeary stamp. Just did the letter to the Editor 2 days ago and today I got my stamp in the mail.  They said they were not sending them 1st class and so would take time but I notice mine was mailed out yesterday and here today . Wonder they didn't hand deliver it.
From now on I am going to start sending more letters to the Editor column in our Local paper. Not just putting up with all the changes they do.  None seem to work out good. Service bad yet cost goes up.

Good afternoon everyone!

Same as yesterday here as I don't want to head out into wet rainy weather. First, it was staying home please when they washed the walls and public rooms of the five floors in this building. Then it became  stay in or stay out between 9 am until 7 pm while they laid carpet and moved every bit of furniture from the public rooms into the hallways blocking the laundry rooms on each floor. And through it all, the skies remain black and gray, and the rain continues to fall.

They have left, that painting and carpet laying crew, leaving behind their garbage, a larger plant tipped over in the hallway and hallway furniture shoved into inconvenient places. I do not think they will be invited back as the company and the tenants have not been pleased. They are off to others of the seven buildings and hopefully will be more scrutinized.

Farrah continues under the bed without treats and my books, and the computer is no longer helping. I never thought I would wish for fall as I am most definitely not a fan of cooler weather! However, September should be crisp even if cool and snow no longer expected after Halloween.

Not that I'm complaining....Oh no, not me!    ::)

MaryPage

We had a high of 85 here in Annapolis today, so it was not as bad as Baltimore and Washington, D.C. were.  Now they are saying tomorrow will be worse, and Saturday and Sunday unbearable.  The forecasts, however, are for D.C. and Charm City;  so I'm thinking, aha, we have this big old bay right here, and it forms breezes that cool us down, and I'm just not going to worry all that much.
I am hope, hope, hoping this glorious a/c keeps pumping out the cool air, as well!

57 here and going down.... :'(

Mary Ann

We had a good short storm earlier today where it poured so hard you could hardly see outside.  Then it cleared up and was quite humid.  Forecast is for more rain, possibly storm later tonight.  I just looked at radar and it seems the rain is going SE so we may be on the fringe of whatever we have.

Evidently I put the cat on the deck a while ago, then forgot to set my timer.  I just went to the living area to spend some time with him and he was on the other side of the door.  He told me about it but he's now inside and much happier.  He'd love to go out the front door but I don't trust him with the wide open spaces.

I'm tired and will go to bed in about a half hour.  I know Trump is going to make his acceptance speech, but I'm not going to stay up later for that.

Hi everyone on another bright and sunny morning.  I see that 94 is our predicted high today with little or no chance of rain.  We did have a nice, if brief, rain shower early yesterday evening.

We did not have our Wisdom class yesterday as the minister was busy working with the young people in repairing the three homes that are being tackled this week.  The word did not get out but only a few of us were there.  I was able to get to Aldi's for some groceries and home much earlier than expected.  The main activity for today is a visit to my primary doctor late this morning.  I did get more test results and the only concerning thing is my platelet count is 64 points below what the low normal should be.  I will be interested in what the doctor thinks about this.  I may decide to eat a big lunch at Shane's Bar-B-Q and bring home something for Pat supper.  I did this when I had the test done last week.

MaryPage, I never heard of the Admiral you mentioned.

Sandy, we have 80% humidity here this morning.  I love days with low humidity as it makes the hot weather more tolerable.

JeanneP, Pat and I lived in Springfield, Illinois for 15 months when we moved back from Alaska and I well remember some of those very hot and humid Illinois days.  I don't recall that we had air conditioning and we were living in a mobile home.  Glad you finally got your License Plate stamp.  Your letter must have done some good.

Patricia, what an inconsiderate painting crew.  I didn't read your post as complaining but just stating the facts.

Sandy

Good Morning Everyone from the warm and a
bit humid,  rocky coast of Maine.

Good day to keep the AC on and windows closed!

All is well here.   Larry,  sorry to hear
about your platelet count.   I hope that
you find out what's up with that.

Have a good day,  Everyone!

Good Morning from a soggy Interior! Nothing new here to report.... :-\

JeanneP

Well I just got back from going the the Farm and Fleet store. Decided would shop early before 9:30am and glad I did as it is above 90 deg already.  I am in for the day. They say with the Humidity high will feel about 104.
They are saying that not seen such hot weather so early in the year or even in August. Lasting so long.  We do get a storm during the night it seems to be every other night. Was a good one last night but just makes the the temps higher.

Darn people on my phone. Had three already this morning. One about Credit cards, another from India wanting to fix a Windows problem. And yes, I won a trip to Bermuda. Aren't I a lucky one.  With all that has come out in the Technical field over the past 25 years looks like should be a way to stop this calling but there isn't they say. Will get as bad on our Mobile phones soon.
Think it is time to make lunch. Not eating as much but not loosing a lb. weight. Think it is all the water I drink.  Not getting my 4 mile a day walks in either.
JeanneP

I did see my primary doctor this morning and he is referring me to a hematologist as he thinks the platelets going lower is related to the prostate cancer that has returned and is destroying the bone marrow as the cancer has moved to the bones.  So I will see the hematologist as soon as I can get an appointment to see what the treatment needs to be at this time, if any.   Just another bump in the road and I am not going to worry about it as know I will have good care.

I guess most of us are experiencing this same very hot and humid weather.  The last time I looked at the Weather Station we were at 96 degrees and it was very muggy when I went to the mailbox.

Joan, glad you are experiencing a little cooler weather today.

JeanneP, I agree with you about needing to get out and shop or run errands as early as possible.  By the time I got out of the doctors office and went to the restaurant it was already unpleasantly hot.  I did have a good lunch and Pat has her dinner in the refrigerator for when she is ready for it.  If I don't recognize the number I will seldom answer the call as if it is important they will leave a voice mail.  However, these calls are certainly annoying.

JeanneP

We are talking about the Phone call problem on one of the other forums.  So many get the ones for the the Free Cruises.
Thought would just bring it over to here.

Wouldn't that be nice. We could all meet up and have a fun trip. (As if).  I can't understand how these people who call can still be doing it.  It has gone on for years. Wonder if many get fooled.
Now I know how the ones in Florida work .My friend and I years ago where there and was asked if wanted to take a free trip to one of the islands. (Can't think which one now). But anyway we laughed at him. Fact he took us to dinner.(girl friend really cute). So we asked him what the spam was . He was a talker and told us.  The thing is you sign up saying will take a look at Condo's . Takes about 3 hours of your time. They take you over but people never read the contract. In small writing is says nothing about them paying you way back. So it does end up costing you. But he says it was amazing how many deals they made on the Condo's. You sort of leased them and got to use them for either a week or 2 weeks in a year. Had to find someone to buy out your lease if you found not working out for you.
People got tied up for years.  I would say that the law has closed down that kind of spamming because I don't hear of it done anymore.  I am sure there are others that have replaced it.
I have never believed that there is anything for FREE. Somewhere you are going to pay for it. No matter what the deal is. Read the small print.

Hi everyone.  It is already 86 degrees and headed to the high 90's this afternoon.  I have no plans for today other than to try to stay inside.  I have already done the watering outside and also completed the morning chores inside that I do each day like emptying the dish washer, opening the blinds, taking my medicine and getting my breakfast.

I appreciate your kind concern for me and do appreciate your keeping me in your prayers.  I did quite a bit of reading on the treatments and the side-effects are certainly not pleasant.  Since I don't know what the path ahead will be I am not going to waste my time worrying about something that may well not happen.  I looked it up last night and it has been almost 12 years since I had the seeding done for the cancer and these have been good years.  I am grateful to still be around.

JeanneP, I agree that we get what we pay for and there are usually strings attached to things like the time shares and free offers.  We do use coupons we get for eating out as we know what we are getting and there is no later commitments from using them.

Joy

Larry, will continue to send good, healing thoughts out to you.

HOT!  That's what it is.  We are not as bad off as most around us;  in point of fact, those folks come streaming to us to cool off a bit.  But we are bad for us.  Hot and humid.  I've already been out on the front deck giving the geraniums some extra water to go on, and spraying SAFER insect killing soap on my gorgeous hibiscus, which has some white fly, or HAD some, and giving that lots of water.
Will add water to each pot on the bayside deck when the morning sun moves off and leaves that in the shade.  Afternoons back there, with the deep shade and the delicious breezes off the water, can be pure heaven.
Thinking about you, Larry.  Don't you imagine for a nanosecond that we don't think of you, and often.  Wanting you hale and hardy.  Hmmm; what is it about ME that I am wanting that, too, and can't seem to get there?  Oh, I remember: Age.  Eighty-seven just ain't sixteen, yet sixteen is what I am inside of this cage of old bones.  Anyone else feel that way?

Joy

#1852
Yes,  MaryPage.  I feel the same way.  I am 82 and sure don't feel "old".   Even tho I have serious health problems, I try not to think about them and keep thinking "young".   I have had people on the phone tell me that I sound so young. That makes me feel good.  PLUS, that age is just a number.  There are many "old" people at 40 and 50 and lots of "young" people at 90.  So, it is all as how you look at yourself.

Also, wanted to tell you, that I have found another webcam for Annapolis.  there  is another one of the Volleyball field down near the Baltimore Inner Harbor, on the same page as the Annapolis one.  You just click on the one you want to watch.  Right now there is a very different kind of boat docked near the little plaza.

OOPS:  I just clicked on the link, and the boat I mentioned has left.    :(
BIG BOX

MaryPage

Well, of Course it has!  That is Ego Alley, and boats come in there just to show off and turn around and sail back out again!
Thanks, Joy.  I did not know Charlie Priola had put that Webcam up.  I guess he did that after the Annapolis Yacht Club fire, and their webcam went down.  The City itself quit theirs years ago, as an economy measure.
The Priolas have had restaurants around town for generations now.  Charlie's mother had one down there at City Dock called simply "Maria's."  Heavenly Sicilian food!  Lobster pizza was my granddaughter Kim's favorite, and she always wanted to go there when she came here for a visit from Oklahoma.  Maria finally retired a few years back, and The Iron Rooster is at her old place.  A very different, but quite marvelous eating place.  See that building on the extreme left?  That is MARKET HOUSE.  Been there since they sold slaves right outside it.  See the awninged dark red brick building behind it on its end?  Middleton Tavern.  Been in business there since 1749.  Unlike Williamburg, VA, Annapolis is PRESERVED, not restored.  We are much as we were, and we're proud of that!

MaryPage

By the way, I think it is a trifle misleading to call that an Annapolis Waterfront Webcam.  Sounds like something Charlie would claim (a great guy and a friend of my granddaughter Maria's, but a bit over the top.  Our Maria was a hostess at his Mama's place back one summer when she was still in High School, and big Maria took a great fancy to her and declared to one and all that she was MARIA NUMBER ONE and Our Maria was MARIA NUMBER TWO.)
You don't see a speck of the Annapolis Waterfront in that webcam!  What you are seeing is CITY DOCK.  Ego Alley is a long, slender finger of water leading from the ANNAPOLIS WATERFRONT and ANNAPOLIS HARBOR up into the city proper, ending at City Dock.  Boats come in just to show off and turn around and go back out to the harbor.  Dinghies and such like are allowed to tie up down at the very end there and use the restaurants, but that is all.  Before you get out to the harbor, however, there are lots of boats, mostly live ons and water taxis, tied up in slips the Harbormaster rents out for the City.

Mary Ann

To go back to MaryPage's statement/question about "old"; I know I'm old, but I don't feel like it, even with my bout a couple of weeks ago.  Of course, when I try to do something, the knowledge is there - I am old!

The picture of Annapolis, regardless of waterfront or not, it is interesting to see the cars zipping along.  I think that is the same view Norm had and that he sent to me.  If not, it is very similar.  He would have gotten the site from you, MaryPage.

We already are in the 90s today and I am thankful for my a/c.

Mary Ann

MaryPage

You are correct, Mary Ann, that is very near the same spot that the City of Annapolis had their old webcam, and I shared that with Norm and the old gang on SeniorNet.  Mary H. and I met for lunch down there and, by prearrangement, one day we took a blue balloon with us for identification purposes and waved like mad into the camera to all our "Michigan" friends.  Mary (deceased now) taught at the Naval Academy, just 2 blocks away.  We both held "Michigan" passports, issued by Norm.

Good morning from another cold, cloudy Interior day. Today is the last city fesrtival before August's state fair brings it all to a close.

Golden Days signifies our town's beginnings as a frontier trading post where a huge nugget was brought in by an unassuming Italian prospector, Felix Pedro.

We are now sister cities with his hometown, and they sent us a large Italian sculpture to commemorate that. It was the beginning of yet another large gold rush in Alaska and brought hundreds into trying their luck and many of those stayed and built our town and others around.

The five-day festival begins today at ten am with a parade, rubber ducky race and a myriad of other adventures, shopping, golf, baseball, soccer, and softball tournaments as well as mimes and riverboat races. There will be a musical offering at each of the plazas around town and all of the gazebos as well.

I'm staying home where I can modulate the temperatures. I wonder how big a showing there will be. Our town was in reality put on the map on July twenty-second, but you know how folks like to play around with dates.   We were incorporated as a city in 1903, so very late compared to many in the continental US. The Russians preferred the coasts and the rich fur trade and slaves to be had there.

MaryPage, I remember the passports, and I remember the talk about you waving your blue balloon. I looked, but as I am four hours behind, I didn't see you.  :'(

Do you still have the URLs to the cams you used to post at the bottom of your group posts?

The following cam only shows portions of the festival. The street fair encompasses nine streets and is only one of the day's offerings.

Joy

MaryPage,  Yes, this webcam is just a little different from the other one that you had sent to Norm.  I remember when you and Mary went down and waved and waved your balloons.  That has been a long time ago.

I did  recognize the Market House.  I remember there was talk about closing that up sometime ago, but seems that it is open up again.  A long time ago,  we used to go down to the concerts that had on the city dock and would always go to McGarvey's.  If I remember correctly, it was on a Tuesday evening.  They would have a Prime Rib special and we would eat there before the concert.  My sister-in-law worked at the Hall of Records for many years. And, she was the one who first got us going down for the concerts. Was always a nice evening.   I think we might have went to Middleton Tavern one time.

The other day, I even saw some guys on, what looked like a surfboard, using a long pole to work there way into the water of Ego Alley.  The different looking boat that I mentioned earlier,  was docked there for several days.

I mentioned the restaurant you talked about the other day,.....Coopers Hawk.. to my son and DIL.  They are very much into all those different kinds of wine...... having a wine cellar in their house....  I have never heard them mention going there, but it looks like a place they would really like.   I am still waiting to go to Sam's and get one of their lobster rolls.  Hopefully, one of these days.  I have dropped enough hints. LOL

I have been enjoying watching the volley ball games at the Inner Harbor beach site.  Seems like it is way too hot to be playing volley ball, but they sure seem to always have a big group playing.

MaryAnn. Have you checked Grand Haven? The place really crowded today. Will be a few sun burned bodies. It looks much cooler over on the Duluth Web. Must be cooler there.

Will you be going to church and you usual lunch tomorrow. We looking for even over the 94 deg here.
