Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

We are having a sunny day.  Supposed to have a high of 67°today.  Crazy weather but if the sun is shining I'm happy.

Nothing much to post about.  Things here in our area are pretty humdrum.

Our table top sized tree has pretty fiber optic lights and we've been enjoying that and our artificial log in the fireplace.  They make it seem more like the holiday season.

Marsgal, I hope you have good news about George today.

Marilyne, according to the news, Covid is really bad in CA but I think mostly south of you.  It seems we only hear bad news.

Our daughter in BC Canada says it has gotten worse there.  Our son in MD called last night and said they are happy with the way their Gov. has handled the pandemic.  He also said the Christmas gifts they sent his daughter-in-law and grandchildren in CA are still sitting in the local Fed Ex warehouse to be delivered.  It seems the pandemic is so bad in her area they are short of delivery drivers and help.

In years to come I wonder what historians will write about this time in history.  Well, have a good day and, hopefully, 2021 will be a better year.

Marilyne

Patricia - I enjoyed the New Years card!   I wonder how the Jacquie Lawson crew comes up with so many unique ideas?

Jean - good to see you checking in this morning.  I hope your cold snap has ended, and you can enjoy your more typical Florida Winter.  We had temps in the low 30's this morning, but it's expected to go up into the 60's today.

Yes, our Covid count here in California is the highest and the most deadly. People have to understand that we are also the most populace State, with millions of people crammed into the cities in tight living conditions.  We also have the highest number of immigrants, also living in overcrowded conditions within the cities.  It's a losing situation here, until we get the vaccine.

MarsGal - Hoping we hear from you today, that George is doing better?  Please keep us posted on how he is doing, and also about what you decided to do about his cats?

Good morning on this second to last day of what has been a nasty year! We're back to flirting with zero again, above it and then below it for days at a time with so far no normally cold weather. Of course, January and especially February are our really severe cold months, but with climate change, everything has been topsy-turvey!

Someone asked management when we would get the vaccine here and was told that since this is neither a nursing nor assisted living home but simply independent senior housing, we would probably be in a second or third-tier depending on our individual circumstances.

I'm also thinking of MarsGal and hoping for George to get better. Whatever is happening, she has all of us behind her, and for George.

Marilyne, California, has been in the news a lot this year, and none of it really good. You're way overdue for some good news! I'm glad you liked it. I've always enjoyed the ones using the different sounds of clocks to make music!

I've not been cooking anything unless you count stir-frying or reheating something,  no real appetite, and no real activities to speak of. It seems to take longer to do something and more time before, thinking I need to do it. My arthritis has been acting up with all the rapid temperature and barometric changes.

Yesterday it was in my long arm bone and just ached. Today it's in my fingers. If the weather would stabilize for a bit, all that would go away, or at least until the next time! Nothing significant, I guess I need something to complain about.  :tickedoff:   ::)

Well, the temp here is about 65 degrees, give or take a couple, cloudy, overcast.  A bit of wind, too.  Earlier it was a "the sun can't make up its mind" day...I would turn off the lamps/lights as it was shining brightly, then in a few minutes, would go behind the random clouds, and I'd have to switch lighting back on!  Oh, well, I'm expecting "perfect" after the year we've had? LOL!

Yesterday, my daughter brought me home from her house (about 50 miles away), where I had spent five wonderful days, eating delicious homemade treats and a special Christmas Day meal, with cornbread dressing and giblet gravy.  She didn't do a turkey, but we had a lovely pork loin.  She made buttermilk pies, and apple tarts.  Good thing I took all my stretchy pants!

Back home is nice, but I do miss her company (and her cooking)!  I've done a load of washing, paid a stack of bills which are due the first week in January, going thru emails and spam; the number of which boggled my mind.  Just be away from your computer for five days, and watch what happens.

I'm not doing any cooking for a bit, as I have some lovely pasta with hamburger/tomatoes/cheese, which my neighbor gave me, and I froze it till I could get back home to it.  It's tasty, free and painless to warm up!

Nice to hear about everyone's Holiday gatherings/non-gatherings/meals shared and the many phone calls sent and received.  Not a lot to be said for 2020 in total, but I think the Christmas Holiday was a bright spot for many of us, who live alone and/or in lockdown.

A Blessed New Year to All of You! (I will celebrate a birthday at 12:02 AM, bringing the total years to 82 - - Whoopee!)

And a BIG surprise.  The local, most popular florist here, just delivered a gorgeous arrangement of roses, carnations, and some purple flowers that look like violets, from my bestie friend that lives across the way, to wish me a Happy Birthday!

MarsGal

George got moved to yet another room yesterday. They had to intubate and sedate him. They have to change his position several times a day. While he is a little better today, according to his attending nurse, it is getting to the point where they are considering running a "pinline" (or something like that) from his arm to his heart because some of the IV veins are becoming problematic from long use. The meds to that line will help reduce the threat of embolisms, clots, and some A-Fib that showed up. He is now listed as critical but stable.

My friend in CO mentioned another storm coming east, so I have to keep an eye on that and decide whether to move George's cats or just pile up more food and water for them there. As you can see, I waffle back and forth on this.

Amy

MarsGal, I think you are referring to a PICC line. Makes it much easier on both the patient and the nurses that are dealing with them.

Patricia, love that card!

MarsGal

Time to catch up a little.

Patricia, I enjoyed your New Year's card. I had to wait til I looked at if up here because the Firefox for Ubuntu didn't want to play it.

Amy, yes a PICC line.

TomeReader1, I am glad to hear that you had such a nice time with your daughter, and the flowers sound wonderful. :hb3:

Well, one major concern has disappeared. George's girlfriend, after checking with his lawyer, had told me that George does have a DNR and has also given her Power of Attorney which I expect succeeds the old one. The attorney has requested that I forward all his bills to him. So now she and the lawyer get to deal with all that. George pays most of his bills through auto-pay and does not receive paper bills. She will also have to deal with the insurance company and the car towing service while George is incapacitated.

Yesterday I went over to BJ's and gasses up my car. Today is feed the kitties day, then straight home.

Tomereader1

So glad that George's girlfriend and his lawyer will be taking care of George's bills, etc.  That will take a lot of worry off your shoulders, MarsGal.

Marilyne

Tome  -  An early "Happy Birthday greeting to you!
My #2 Granddaughter was also born on New Years Eve, just a few minutes past Midnight!  Like you, she wasn't the first baby born that night at Kaiser Hospital,  so they also didn't receive any "prizes" or the picture in the paper.  My granddaughter will celebrate her 38th birthday this year.

MarsGal  -  Sounds like George is a little better today.   Good that many of the legal responsibilities that come along when a person is hospitalized, will now fall to his gf.  You will likely continue to take care of the cats, since they know you and trust you.

Jenny  -  Good to see a post from you.  Hope all of your loved ones are doing well?  I know you're looking forward to visiting your Palm Springs family, but probably will have to be put on hold until the Covid monster is under control.

Jean  -  Sad that the Christmas gifts your son and wife, sent to California, have not been delivered yet. I can understand, as the same thing happened here in this area.  The UPS drivers were either sick or grounded, because of the virus, so packages were held up at the warehouse, and couldn't be delivered.   The drivers of those big brown UPS trucks have to go through a special training course, and get a special drivers license here is CA. So when something goes wrong with a driver, it isn't like someone else can just step in and take over.   Probably the drivers who were healthy, were working double and triple time, to get the packages delivered.

Tomereader1

Thanks, Marilyne for the good wishes.  I think I'm just glad that a New Year is coming, and am hoping and praying that it is a great deal better than this one has been.  With the recent "surges" and the new strain of Cov19, one has to wonder if "better" will come sooner or later.

Hope you and AJ and your daughters & family are doing well, and can experience a Happy, Healthy, Prosperous and Encouraging New Year.  (Now to get used to writing 2021 on checks and stuff  :-[ )

Amy

Wishing everyone a healthy happy New Year...I don't mind seeing 2020 leave and pray that 2021 will be a much better year for all.

AMY -  THANK YOU . . . Thank you so much for posting!  That video and the Guy Lombardo music, actually brought tears to my eyes!   I loved it, and will watch it many times to see everything over and over again!  Wonderful!

patricia19

Those crowds however made me claustrophobic!

FlaJean

I remember watching Guy Lombardo (and his Canadians) on New Year's Eve when he was at the Waldorf Astoria in the 60s and early 70s.  I just don't enjoy the New Year's programs nowadays---just don't enjoy most of the music and everything is so frantic.

It is 70°F outside and sunny, but I still feel chilly for some reason.

Everything is quiet here.  According to the weather map we are supposed to have thunder storms to night, but the radar isn't showing much for our area---at least now.  Here's hoping everyone is having a good day.

shirleyn

Marilyne, tears in my eyes, also.  Thank you Amy for sending us Guy Lombardo.  It brought back lotsa memories.

I am hoping for a great new year.  I spent 2019 fighting cancer with the treatments, and 2020 fighting the dang new virus.  I have lost two years, so I am really hoping for a good 2021.  At the doctors yesterday & they do not have the shots yet.  Darn.

So anyway, HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ONE AND ALL!!!    :balloons: :bubbly:

HAPPY NEW YEAR !!

Sure hope it will be a better year coming up !

I was able to get an appt. with the Nurse Practitioner at my doctor's office and she is treating me for anxiety.  I haven' started the meds yet as waiting for results from a chest x-ray,  I just am having a very difficult time with all this that is going on.  I was concerned it was something to do with my heart, but that was all good.  Sure hope the medicine will help.  Awful feeling like this.

Don't feel like eating, but know I have to.  Have a good day.

patricia19

Joy, I feel for you and understand how hard it is to fight against. A good friend has it, and from what she has said, the meds are helping her, but a lot of it for her is listening to her body and using personal timeouts, and meditating when she starts feeling certain ways. I hope you will feel better once you get further into the new year.

Amy

Marilyne,Jean,Shirleyn you  are welcome. Patricia, I am with you, way too many people for me also.Joy, one day at a time and we will all get through this.My friend  also had anxiety and thankfully her meds helped. I hope the meds will make this trying time much easier.

JOY - sorry to hear that you're having  problems with anxiety.  It's a common reaction to stress and worry, and there are plenty of stressful and worrisome things going on in today's world.  I do hope the medication the doctor prescribed, will help you to feel better.    I also hope the vaccine will be available to everyone who wants it, as soon as possible, which will alleviate lots of anxiety.

HAPPY NEW YEAR 🎆
I wish you all a healthy and happy year to come.  May 2021 be a year where we can heal the world from this horrible virus and heal the hearts of so many who are suffering.

Feeling very blessed that no one in my immediate family or friends have had to endure this Covid Virus.  I hope and pray we can all get vaccinated and be safe soon.

I must say it again.....how thankful I am for having all of my friends here in Norm's Bait and Tackle in my life.  Getting to communicate with all of you has always been so special to me and I hope we can all continue to enjoy each other for a good long time.  I will never forget the ones that have left us.  I hope they are looking down upon us and smiling that we do miss them so.

Pleasant dreams to all.

HAPPY 2021

TOMEREADER, HAPPY BIRTHDAY WISHES TO YOU.  I am not sure exactly what day is YOUR DAY, but I hope it was or will be a good one and that this coming year will be a nice one for you

I am listening to Guy Lombardo as I write this. This is the type of New Years I would like to celebrate, not the current ones with all the unknown people to me on the anew Years Eve shows😩

We did make it well past midnight, so officially welcomed in the new year.

The pot of black eyed peas are cooking and they sure do smell yummy.  We are going to have crab cakes in a hour or so as my hubby watches his football games🏈

I wish you all a good rest of this very first day of 2021.

Cheers,
Jenny
