I think that believing or not believing in "Climate Change" is a bit misleading. Of course climate changes, both on micro and a macro level. Grand shifts in climate have happened for millennia. So, the problem is not climate change but what is causing it or contributing to a shift. I could in all sincerity say that I believe in climate change and still disagree with the cause. I also think that we as yet cannot change the climate but only slow down or moderate the shifts somewhat. I am happy to see that President Biden has taken steps already to rejoin the Global Climate Accords, as well as WHO.

Marilyne, I am keeping Lily. She is making herself quite at home. She is still snarling at the others when the come close, though, so I have to try and curtail that. Part of the reason for her "attitude" is that the others apparently picked on her a bit, especially Scotch. She is used to having to defend her space or hiding. I noticed that she is spending less time under my bed and more time with us. She defends her space and food plate, and this morning, defended my bedroom doorway from Shan's attempted encroachment. I made the mistake of getting up to find where, presumably Lucy, barfed at 3AM which activated all of them to the possibility of an early breakfast. I have yet to find anything to clean up,but I don't think I was hearing things.

Today I plan on attempting to charge and check out the tablets, cell phones and the old HP laptop I brought over from George's. He managed to leave me all his electronics in the will. Most of it is junk he never threw away. Diabolical. Fortunately, the county in which he lived still allows free electronics recycling to county residents. I may still have to pay someone to haul it to the center if the estate won't. If any of the cell phones are good, the executor may take them to a group near her place that refurbishes them for use by abused, stalked, harassed women who need a quick way to call for help.

Good morning everybody, here comes 'occasional' again.  :buck2:  It is nice to see so much conversation going on in here.

Patricia, thank you for that article on the Alaskan show that I watch.  It was interesting and answered some questions I had about the show.

Hmmm, there were some gals revealing their ages in here, but no one surpassed my age, yet.  I will be 88 next April.  Danny will be 86 next month.  Huh, I guess I married a baby !?!!  He is starting to show signs of forgetfulness.  Well, so am I but his is worse.  I get tired of answering the same questions over and over.

I am wondering where Joan is, haven't seen her in here lately, but have seen her in Facebook.  She follows me in age by about a month or two.

There are so many people missing, but most of the ones I am thinking of have already passed.  Just like here where I live, all my close friends are already gone.  But heck, even if they were here we wouldn't be able to see each other because of this pandemic.  Which reminds me, I have put our names on a waiting list for the inoculation.  But they say it will take a while to be called.

Okay, that is enough for today.  I enjoyed chatting with yawl.

Today is bright and sunny.  I need to get busy and make a grocery list for a few items that I didn't remember last trip. 😠

I enjoyed watching the Inauguration and the Fireworks were the prettiest I've ever seen.

Joy, I sure hope you start feeling better.  Hopefully, the doctor has prescribed a different medicine that will help.  How is your son?  No one can really understand what another person is going through but I'm sending good thoughts and prayers your way.

Marilyne, It would be nice if you could enjoy the present weather without worrying about the future fires.  Our weather is so strange.  It goes from cold to fairly warm and then back to cold.  Next week we are supposed to have a couple of 70° days to look forward to, according to the weather app.

Jackie, the pandemic sounds pretty bad in Britain.  Our area here in Northwest Florida has not been as bad as other areas in Florida but we are house bound trying to stay as safe as possible.  Occasional trips to the grocery store is about our limit.

Thinking of all of you and wishing you well.

A good Sunday Morning HELLO 🌹

I have just finished my video church service and thought I best come in and see how you all are doing?

We have sunshine today but do have a few storms headed our way. One may give us some accumulation of the white stuff, but sadly many of them this winter have not.  The whole state is extremely dry.

Trying to decide what to fix for dinner today.... Yesterday I made beef and noodles and boy did it hit the spot!

We have a zoom Birthday celebration to be part of at one PM today.  All these new ways to do things the COVID WAY!

SHIRLEY, it is always nice to see a post from you. We have lost so many of our past posters.  Wish we could get them all to pop in and join us once again.
Have a good rest of your day.

Actually, Amy, it was the theme from the movie "Jaws" Because you might be surprised by something swimming next to you.

Joy

Not feeling that much better.  Doctor did increase the dosage of the med, but just started it today.

I am so tired and sleepy.  Sure hope I feel better soon.

Have never felt like this before and don't like it.  Thanks for asking about me.  My son does seem better.  My DIL is waiting for her test results to come back.  Thanks for asking about my son.

Finally some rain here in N.California!  We've had about a half inch, with a bigger storm expected tomorrow.  Very good news for those of us in this parched, dry State.

Joy - Good to see that your son is better, and is getting over his bout with Covid.  I hope your dil's test results will come back negative, and that she will not catch it.  Sorry you seem to be having a setback, and that the meds aren't working as well as they should.  Hoping your doctor can adjust your dosage, or prescribe something different.

Jenny - you sounded very cheerful in your message yesterday!  The zoom birthday party sounds like it will be fun.  I hope all of your sons and wives are Covid-free,  and will remain so . . . especially Michele, because of her ongoing health problems.

shirleyn - Good to to see you checking in yesterday!   I don't know how we started revealing our ages in here, but looks like most of us are within one or two years of each other.  Hard to believe so many years have gone by since we all started posting in the old Senior Net.  I was in my late 60's, when I first joined.  It's so nice to keep track of everyone, and to stay in touch.

Jean - Looks like I won't have to worry about wildfires for a while yet.  Finally the rain has arrived . . . a bit late in the season, but always welcome!  Actually I do prefer the bland sunny days all Winter, but then we have to go on water rationing, and other worries.

Hello to Amy, and Patricia, and anyone else who looks at Bait & Tackle.  :)

Tomereader1

Marilyne, so glad to see someone posting in NB&T.  Was beginning to worry about our regulars there.  Wonderful that you got some rain in NoCal.  I'd send you some of ours, but... we had rain Sat. night, off and on yesterday and then that thunderstorm they kept predicting came about 6:00 this morning.  It was a noisy one, and I got up and turned off all my surge protectors for the electronics.

I know you, Marilyne, don't particularly like football, but AJ was probably glued to the screen.  What did he think of the outcomes?  I was rooting for GreenBay, and then for KC.  50-50.  But in the playoffs I wanted NewOrleans to win so Drew Brees could finish out his career by maybe getting to the SuperBowl.

Not much going on here in the Big D, except Covid numbers going up.  Like you, I don't get out except for groceries or drive-thru bank, and always with my mask on.  This new strain of the virus is really scary.
To show you the differing viewpoints about getting the vaccine...when I was in the Drs. office for my annual, she said "now make sure you get your Shingles vaccine".  In the interim, I had forgotten which one she said, so I asked on the PatientPortal.  Her reply was "please get the Covid Vaccine" first then you can get the Shingrex later".  So, no sooner had I gotten that email, I saw where the CDC issued the statement "make sure you get all your other vaccines up to date (flu, shingles, pneumonia) before you get the Covid vaccine".  How about that for differences?  I had told her that I was going to "wait" till later in the year before getting the Covid Vac.to see what various problems it might cause in my age group. Now with this new strain, I may be waiting even longer.
Hope you both are doing well, physically and mentally.
Hugs ((()))

Good morning from the Interior in a remaining warm winter and no outside activity. With the ten-month total lockdown still in effect, nothing is open except essential businesses and no non-emergency medical. I have been lonely and somewhat depressed over not seeing my friends or having a life outside of this building. However, I can see it's working so really can't complain. Alaska has had 251 deaths out of 53,150 cases; only eight deaths were in the Interior. Ninetynine point four percent of the deaths came from the bottom or Southeast portion of the state, where many are still protesting and ignoring safety measures.

Good morning.  It is a sun is shinning for now, here in the Mile High City. Snow is falling in the mountains, thank goodness, but some might land here at my house later this afternoon.

MARILYNE.  Thank you for the nice comment that I seemed to be cheerful in my message.  It ended VERY shortly after I posted .  Seems I managed NOT to notice the zoom call was EASTERN STANDARD TIME, so of course I was not ready...in my mind I still had two hours to repair ME before I would be on camera😱 No time to get my hair done, and then after we signed in we could not get the speaker turned on....I was mortified......I sat the iPad, which was on a stand towards the TV and headed off to see what I could do with my bed head....the folks on the screen thought I had fallen down...never logged back in.....how embarrassing 🙈 Dr. Dave and a Michele were n the call as well, so Dave called to see if I was OK?  He was kind enough to call me after the call was over to say, "Mom, you were NOT the MOST embarrassed caller, there were others much worse"! So happy you received a bit of rain and I do hope you will get more!

JOANNE, I did not realize you are in BG D. I had to chuckle and shake my head at the same time after reading your story about getting other shots before the Covid Vaccine, vs getting the C vaccine then the others!🙀🙀 How crazy is that? No wonder we are confused about things when the professionals do not even know! This latest strain coming from South Africa is even more frightening....sadly, we are only guessing that the current vaccine will cover the original strain...but for how long?  We have 10 cases, as of last night, of the more serious strain coming in from the U.K., and they THINK it will cover it🤔🤔

PATRICIA, I am sorry to say this, but how can you not be feeling lonely and depressed?  For the most part we are not supposed to be hermits!  A friend posted to me, "I have not been dressed up and gone out in a year now"! I do not care or miss getting "dressed up", but I sure do miss the "going out"!  Bob and I are lucky in that we can go get in our car and take a little drive....and even though we are not getting out of the car, we at least get to see some activity and have some sun shine on us.  We have not been face to face with anyone since Christmas Day, and I know that has been WAY more than many of you have😩😢😭. Thank goodness we all have internet access and can search the web and come to places like here to communicate.  Take care of yourself and give Farrah a nice Pat for me.  I also have to say that I feel very blessed to have my Smokey Cat as he gives me a lot of pleasure. 😘

Off to try to get SOMETHING done!

Have a good day.

Speaking of "not getting dressed up"...while in the grocery check out the other day (one of my once a week only, quick trips), the lady who was jockeying for a spot in the line, was talking on her phone, and I quote..."no I haven't changed clothes for two days at least, still in the sweat suit I had on when I saw you!"
I had to stifle myself to keep from ROTFL!  But, I didn't judge, not me, when I'm at home (alone) I have daytime pajamas and nighttime pajamas, and some days they are the same!!! ;D  I do keep up with the laundry, and get those double-duty pajamas washed and dried!

MarsGal

Jenny, I am another one who doesn't mind being "by myself". I do get a little down lately, partly because of the COVID stuff and partly because George is no longer here to talk to on the phone. I have the cats, you all, and my books to keep me going.

George's cats will be going to the shelter on Friday. Meanwhile I am keeping busy checking in on them and doing some minor clean up at his house - like throwing out accumulated boxes, plastic and paper trash he just let sit. The GF says she is letting the real estate people handle getting rid of stuff that she doesn't take and to do most of the clean up work. I've been sorting a few things that will need to go to recycle. Not my job really, but I felt I needed to do something.

I need to get gas soon, and start on another grocery list. Time to vacuum again, too. For entertainment, I have been watching some travelogues of Scotland and the outlying islands as well as some astronomy clips on YouTube, and reading.

We are supposed to be getting some snow and possibly rain and snow mixed over the next day or so.

MarsGal

Looks like I am last out yesterday and now first in this morning. Somehow I managed to fall asleep early last evening and didn't wake up until about 11:45pm. Of course I couldn't get back to sleep so I played a computer game until, when I checked the time, it was about 3:30am. Just about when the cats start getting active. Naturally, me waking up that early gave them even more impetus to cavort about. So. Up I got.

Now I am trying to wipe stuff from George's tablets so they can be donated. The Kindles are doing well, but I will be darn if I can get the Galaxy to reset. The worst of it is that at 6am every morning it plays a wake-up tune.

Barely there snow this morning. I haven't checked the forecast yet.

shirleyn

Good Morning one and all!

Marilyne, you said you joined the Seniors about 15 years ago - I just do not remember you posting, maybe we just did not post in the same places?  I think I started around 1997.  So many people/friends then and so many gone.  Sigh!  We did have a lot of fun, though with our made up parties.

Joanne, I am also a football fan - and just so happy with the Bucs winning (I live near Tampa), although I was really divided as I am also a Green Bay/Aaron Rodgers fan.  And as far as getting dressed for the day, I do not get dressed unless I am going somewhere.  Usually I wear gowns most of the time, sleeping and daytime.  :uglystupid2:

Jenny, I guess you wished your Broncos were back into winning.  I miss them, too, and used to look forward to watching them win.

Marsgal, I do the same thing - I fall asleep watching TV, usually about 7 and then wake up around 12 or 1 & play around on the computer til 3.  Sigh, it is a rough life, huh?  :smiley6600:

Well, I have breakfast over with and the kitchen cleaned up, a load of clothes in the machine, and now what to do with the rest of the day?  Supper we are going to try those chicken sandwiches from Wendys that they have been advertising.  Drive thru.  So have no idea what I will do the rest of the day until suppertime.  Geesh!  You all have a good day now, ya hear?

MarsGal - Two nice long messages from you when I looked in this morning.   In spite of your broken sleep patterns, it looks like you're accomplishing the important things on your lengthy list!   It will be a relief for you when George's cats go to the shelter, but will also be a very sad day.    My youngest daughter also says she doesn't mind the lockdown, because she's lived alone for the past ten years, and is used to it. However, she admits to now becoming weary, and sick of the computer and the TV.  She lost her job in March, and since then the business has closed completely, so she has nothing to look forward to.

shirleyn - You and I started at about the same time in Senior Net . . . 1997. I'm sure we never posted in the same folders back then?  There were so many in that original SN forum, and members tended to get comfortable in certain discussions, and not branch out much.  I spent mot of my time in the folders that were moderated by Joan Grimes - Books, music, TV, movies.  There were others, but can't think of them now?

Like you, I'm not a pajama person.  I've always worn  nightgowns,  but they are too cumbersome to wear around the house for very long.   I'm still sitting here in my nightgown and robe right now at 8:30, but when I finish this message, I'll get dressed for the day.   Then I'll do the kitchen and start loading the washing machine.

Jenny - I laughed at you getting caught on the ZOOM call, with your "bed head"!  LOL ;D   I know that nobody cares how I look, or whether my hair is combed, etc., but I can't help wanting to look half-way decent when I'm on one of those Zoom calls!   Old habits last a lifetime!   Like you and Bob, we haven't been face to face with anyone since Christmas, and even then, we were all in masks - so not very comfortable.  We also get out for a drive, just to look around and see what's going on.    We drive through the downtown areas here in Los Gatos, as well as neighboring city, Campbell, and only once we drove over to Santa Cruz.   Just for fun, we like to count all the people we see out walking or sitting on benches, who are NOT wearing masks.  It's disappointing that there are so many.  :'(

Joanne - Yes, AJ was watching all the playoff football games, but not really rooting for any team in particular.  He prefers College Football, but will watch Pro, when college is finished for the season.   As you remember, his favorite sport is Hockey!  Go SHARKS!  They've been at the bottom since last year, and looks like they will be staying there once again.  He's a loyal fan, and I am too, so we just like to watch the games and see our favorite players. Unfortunately, your Dallas Stars, now have my all time favorite forward - Joe Pavelski.  :(

patricia19

Good morning, it's still dark-thirty here in the Interior, and I've just finished my shower, breakfast for Farrah and me, and the daily cleanup. I need to do some deep cleaning, but I tire so easily that the daily stuff is often the only stuff.

Speaking of daytime fashions, Saturday was a weekly laundry day, and I only had two loads, and one of them was sheets, blanket, and duvet. I have an issue with staying under the duvet, so I have a white older blanket that I put down under the bottom sheet. I haven't used a top sheet in years and recently read that it's an American habit. Europeans don't use them, so I can claim them for my dislike other than a distaste of being hemmed in.

Jenny, I'm also one who can enjoy keeping herself occupied and at home, but since I'm only out of this building, perhaps twice monthly, for the last ten months, it is wearing. My daily round of cells and texts is becoming the same old song, no one is happy, and some I fear are rearranging their previous text for another day's use—sort of a wash and wear communication method.

I rarely prep large meals anymore, only making enough for two or three meals. Then I generally space those meals into six or seven. I like to roast large pans of either vegetables or meat with appropriate spices and freeze them. Then it's a matter of picking from frozen bag A, B, or C and popping them into my oven or large wok.

I've stopped trying processed foods for now as the three I tried rapidly exited. I'm perfectly happy with eating real food. It takes preparation time, but time is something I have a lot of. I can't complain; I actually have it good with on and offline friends, Farrah, and my books and computer. I wouldn't do well without any of those, and all of you, so thank you, you are appreciated more than you may know!

Denver

A good Tuesday HELLO to ALL.

SNOWING and cold out here today.  There might be more on the way but not much accumulation is expected.  IF it is going to be cold and dreary I sure wish we would get a LOT of moisture from it.  It snowed in Phoenix and Las Vegas yesterday....cRaZy🙀

PATRICIA, I agree whole heartedly with you that we are all very lucky to have our group to chat with and share some nice discussions.

MARILYNE, I think you have some of the best "drive around to see" locations in your area!   Right now I would love to just go sit in the car and look at the Pacific😘. Regarding my comment of being able to "just get out", did not mean to go out and party or the like, I just want to go back to our old life of going out and doing what ever!  Sadly, a few of our regular go to restaurants have closed and we do not expect them to reopen.  On one of our drives we went to check out our new IN-N-OUT....there it sits, all done and looking so nice and they are waiting to open it until this Covid is better controlled.  They opened two, one in the East side of Denver and one in Colorado Springs....a couple of months ago....a total craziness of people waiting in lines for hours and hours.....both of them are still open but have had the highest number of Covid cases as any other place around.  That is why they are holding off on opening this one.  I do not understand WHY they were allowed to build where they did as there is no room for cars to be backed up for miles waiting to get in to the que!  It is going to be a big old mess!

SHIRLEY, you bet I do miss my Broncos being a REAL team these days.  We have some issues that have to be resolved before I think we will be able to expect a good team again.  #1 priority is the ownership.  It is a battle of who is going to be in charge between the children of the late owner, Pat Bowlen.  Our wish is that they would just sell the team and ride into the sunset with their millions and let someone else take it from here!  Appreciate you remembering me and my team.

It seems that many of us joined Senior Net about the same time.  We were temporarily living in Plano TX at the time when Bob was doing some consulting work after he retired.  I often think back to the early days and the many folks that are no longer with us....it is a wonderful memory.

Off to take on a HUGE job in our "extra room" that would be best to be described as a very messy storage room!  It is designed to be a bedroom, but our guest bedroom is down stairs and this room is the over flow for extra stuff!

Have a wonderful day.

Good Afternoon,

"Thin" sunshine in central Oklahoma but noon weather guru said the temperature is barely above freezing and it feels like the low 20's.  Too cold for this gal to get out even though I had planned to get my hair done and go to Braum's and Walgreen's.

Patricia,  I know what you mean about some rearranging their previous text for another day's use.  Sometimes I'm tempted to just post "Ditto".  ;D

I'm another one who doesn't mind being alone.  The thing I miss most is lively conversations with friends - many of whom have died or developed health issues that make that sort of thing no longer possible.  Fortunately, my family - including all 3 Grands - are "talkers" but they have their own lives and interests...although it is fun now that The Grands are old enough to have opinions they don't hesitate to share!  ;)

A week or so ago, I learned how to join in a Book Club meeting via Zoom without having to install the program. A member's husband lets us use his info.
However my first thought after seeing myself on camera was "Is THAT what I look like to other people?!?  :o Yikes!!!!"
May think twice about trying it at the meeting tomorrow IF I remember to get dressed in time for the meeting. (I'm another one who likes gown and robe).

It's Put Out The Trash Bin day so I'm off to bundle up and go to the curb.

Stay warm and cozy, Everyfriend.

large wok.  Tell me about "wok cooking" .  I may have mentioned in another area that I'm giving my daughter a large wok that I've never used.  It came with a set of cookware that I bought waaaay back when.  It has just been taking up space in my cabinet.  Is there a book you could recommend about Wok cooking?

My manual wok by Calphalon is my most prized and used cooking instrument. It is handwash only, and you use nylon or wood utensils only. You can use it with gas, electric or glass top ranges or cooktops. Is quick, easy, and adaptable.

First, I cut all the vegetables and meat in uniform pieces for quick cooking; I generally spray a light coating of oil I keep  in a spray bottle. I start with the food that takes the longest to cook and work my way down to the fastest. Generally, you move your food around, so it sears before finishing browning. I toss anything and everything in the pan as long as the pieces are uniform in size.

Learn the toss. "You just push the wok away from you and raise it and flip the food towards you. When you want to cook food very rapidly, it's a way of moving it around. It's always a good idea to practice without too much food and oil first. You could even practice with just some salad in it off the heat."  "A wok distributes heat very evenly from the base and up the sides, and because of the steep sides, you can move food around in it," explains Fuchsia Dunlop, the author of Land of Fish and Rice: Recipes from the Culinary Heart of China as well as several books about Chinese cooking. That means you can crank up the flame, get the pan really hot, and, by moving the food speedily around in the scalding pan, turn ingredients into dinner in almost no time.

But stir-frying isn't all a wok can do, Dunlop wants us to know. "It is the main cooking pot in a Chinese kitchen," she says. At a Chinese meal, there are many different types of dishes on the table at one time, and "probably most of them will be done in a wok." Stewing, steaming, boiling, and deep-frying are all in the wok's wheelhouse."

"Care;  woks should be seasoned with oil before their first use. Do not use dish soap to clean. Simply rinse with very hot water and a plastic scouring pad."

https://oureverydaylife.com/the-advantages-of-wok-cooking-12221228.html

My wok isn't new, but I posted photos in Photos onsite.

Callie, sometimes I just post one or two emojis, sometimes just the one waving Hi!

Marilyne

Good morning to everyone.  :)
Some days are busy here in Bait & Tackle, and some are quiet.  Yesterday was one of the quiet days, so I'm hoping things will pick up today, and we'll hear from any and all members who post here.

California weather, is doing it's usual, "Feast or Famine" routine!  Finally, after about eight months, we get a real rain storm.  Unfortunately, once it starts it doesn't know when to stop and take a break and let the water soak into the parched burned soil.  Instead it just keeps coming, and the water runs off the dry hillsides and mountains, because there is no living ground cover anymore to hold it in place.   Just ash and dead burned brush and trees.   Mud slides are the major concern.  I haven't looked at the news yet this morning, so don't know if we've had any slides in our nearby Santa Cruz Mountain communities overnight.

So that's about it from here.  Other than that, just the same old day-in and day-out existence.  No matter how repetitious life is, we want to hear from you!  Let us know how everyone is in your families?  I hope no more Covid cases?  Tell us about what you've been watching on TV, books you're reading, or anything going on in your community?

patricia19

Good morning from the Interior with no news, each day both newsworthy or weatherwise sounds like the day before. We are still sliding around zero, which is noteworthy because January is normally in the deep freeze.

On the plus side, I'm warm, fed, showered, and healthy, and I hope the rest of you are as well!
