Prayers and Good Wishes for a successful surgery, Jenny.   Please ask someone to let us know how it went if you can't let us know yourself.

Beverly

Jenny - My thoughts and prayers will be with you tomorrow! I know you will be glad to have the surgery over and done. The wait has been stressful for you.

Jenny..
..lets hope second time lucky...and may this be the last one..Jenny, what is the world coming to when the days arrive we actually look forwards to having our arms fixed or vampires taking blood...oh how times have changed..sigh..

***********************************************************

...Only things on my today agenda are a vampire home visit ( sometime today ) to take my blood and a mid day slot from my " experienced " ( he owns his own gardening business ) to do work on my garden..i dont know what his charges are but i told him to treat me as a customer, i am not wanting favours just because he lives one door away from me..Just hope i am not in for a shock..

Other than that we shall see what transpires..hopefully a large cheque will drop through my letter box," i will be looking for that flying pig "

Well visiting ( lovely lady ) vampire just this minute left 11.15am...ohh what a palaver, i found it amusing as she could not get any blood flow coming, said i was dehydrated, and as for me, i was just wanting it to be over...anyway after some time of my blood just dripping, her words...and for what seemed like forever the needle in my arm, enough started to flow and she got her two phials worth...I also have to say this was the worst one i have ever had taken as mid way the needle moved and touched a nerve for a few seconds and did i holler out...well that was the word she used, " touched a nerve " whilst still in my arm, well lets just say, that is one to remember as told her that has never happened before..And now to go top up my water intake, apparently two mugs of tea dont count...ha ha.

Jenny, I send you good wishes for a successful surgery.

Jackie
, I've been told to drink more water too. The problem with that is I will end up spending more time going to the bathroom.

This morning I found a live webcam at Kabul Airport sponsored by Reuters. In the little time I watched, four planes went out and two came in. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0mNf2fRGlr4

Today is cloudy, very humid and the weather forecast is calling for thunderstorms this afternoon. Good thing I got my front yard mowed yesterday.

My new doors are expected to arrive in about three weeks, so I will be making a trip soon to Home Depot for two new door lock sets as well as a few bags of mulch.

Marilyne

JENNY  -  I'll be thinking about you today, and praying for a successful surgery, and a quick recovery! 🙏🏻

Yes, thank you, MarsGal.  Amazing to see.

Jenny, I am pulling for you Big Time.  All will be well.

My dearest old friend and childhood neighbor (our mothers played together as children and our grandparents were friends and neighbors) died yesterday.  Cancer.  I am rather pulverized today.  Debi brought two dozen roses earlier this afternoon.  I keep having my mind shoved back and forth between "She can't be gone from my life!" and "Thank god she isn't in pain anymore."  Mart did not like to take the pain medicine because she wanted to be able to communicate.  So like her.  She will be buried in Arlington with her husband, who was in the Navy.

Marilyne

Mary Page -  So sorry to hear that your old friend Mart, has passed away.  I remember that you mentioned her a couple of weeks ago, and what a dear friend she has been to you over the years.  It will probably be too difficult for you to go to Arlington for the service, but she knows you are thinking about her,  and missing her.

MaryPage

Thank you, Marilyne.

Another gorgeous, but hazy, day here on the Chesapeake.  It is the extreme heat (for us) causing the haze.  We had not one, but two thunder storms rumble through last night.  Each did not spend much time right here at all, but I could see the lightening and hear the noise over on the Eastern Shore for quite a while later.  Storms seem to prefer that side of these wide waters to this one, and I am all in favor of that.

So how is Jenny; that is the question.  I know we all hope she's great.

Marilyne

Mary Page, looks like it's just the two of us for now, but I hope some of our regulars will return before long to say 'hello'.

In the meantime, I'd like to update the information on my granddaughter's connection to Afghanistan.  She is still in contact with her friend, Mashal, who now lives in France, and has been trying to help get his parents and sisters get out of Kabul.    The latest is that they were waiting at the airport, and witnessed the bombings.  Fortunately, they were not harmed, but of course were frightened, and went back to their home in Kabul, where they still are at this point.  That's all I know, and unfortunately nothing anyone is able to do to help.

I did find out something interesting, from my granddaughter.  I asked her how Mashal, happens to be in France?  She said that five years ago, he and two of his friends set off together, and WALKED to France!!  Yes, that's what he told her . . . they walked!  I was skeptical, but I guess that refugees move from the Middle East to other countries all the time, by foot.  I tried to find a map on line, showing the Middle East and Europe,  to get an idea of the route, but hard to get the perspective right.    Also, I don't know how long it took them?  It's probably a fascinating story, that I would love to hear some day.

MaryPage

Afghanistan, which is in Central Asia, was a central part of The Silk Road.  Kabul was right on the route, and caravans came from the West and East and South to head North into Europe.  You can Google maps of those routes.  Fascinating indeed!

I cannot Tell you how many times I have lamented that the Afghans have not, or seem to have not, replanted their forests.  They are a prime example of using up all your trees for firewood, and having no plan to replace and replenish.  I suppose the basic reason may be lack of a central government, as every section has been run by a different tribe.  But still, they could have had someone come forward and urge everyone to do this in their own section of the country and offered favorable arguments as to why they should do it.

I can imagine walking from Kabul to France.  I have NO wish or dreams or desire to do such a thing, but I can imagine it.  The Silk Road has long thrilled my imagination, though.  I would like to have spent a few hours of just one day enroute in one of the caravans, though.

I know I said something somewhere here in SeniorNet or Seniors and Friends about James Michener's book "CARAVANS."  If you've never read it, but you are a reader, it is a book to love.  Seriously.  And two more wonderful books are by Khaled Hosseini.  They are The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid.  All three of these are really great reads, I swear.

By the way, if you love Biography, you will love to read about the woman who was largely responsible for inventing the nation called Iraq when they were dividing up the Middle East just after World War I.  Her name was Gertrude Bell, and the story of her life will thrill you to the core.  Of all of the real women in History, only Eleanor of Acquitaine thrills me more.  Both women have been featured in movies, as well as books.  Kathryn Hepburn played Eleanor once.

MaryPage

SUNS.

A Thousand Splendid Suns.

Marilyne

Mary Page -  I'm glad you mentionedThe Silk Road!    Huge chunks of history have vanished from my memory, but can be recalled with a few reminders!   I plan to do some online research on the route of the Silk Road, and how it has developed and has changed over the years.

I read both,  "The Kite Runner", and "A Thousand Splendid Suns", and  liked "Kite Runner", much more than I did "Suns".  The  uncivilized, excessive violence against women in "Suns", was difficult to read, but important for people to know and understand the mindset of the Middle Eastern man.  I want to believe that things have improved for women since that book was written?

Interesting to note:  Khaled Hosseini, lives here in Northern California, in the City of Fremont.  It's located between San Jose and Oakland, so is not far from me.  It contains the largest number of Afghan immigrants in the United States. I imagine that many of the new refugees will be hoping to move there.

Stopping in to say Good Night. It's been a very quiet day with a lot of napping going on!

Not much news here in my little corner since I posted some updates the other night. I'm mostly just keeping up with the twins' progress and talking to my family.

Jenny...
...when you are able to type, please let us know that the arm setting has been a success, or it maybe too soon to know...

*******************************************
I am now ready for morning church, arranged car lift will soon be here to collect me from someone who attends our church..

MaryPage

Does anyone know someone who is in touch with Jenny's family?  Does she do Facebook or any of those?  I do not do Facebook, or any other Social Media except this one, so I have no way of seeking information from such sources.

Marilyne

I am guessing that Jenny will be discharged from the hospital today.  Her surgery wasn't until late on Friday, so it hasn't been as long as it seems.  She is one of my Facebook friends, and nothing has been posted there from her since she went into the hospital.   I think it's probably difficult for her to use her arm, so she won't be posting for a while yet.  Maybe Bob, or one of her sons will post in FB to inform people as to how she is doing.?   If so, I will let everyone know.

Just had a PM from Jenny on Facebook. She's home and doing well. I'm sure she'll be posting here soon. I'm so happy for her!

Marilyne

Such Good News!  I also got a Facebook message from Jenny, that she's feeling good, and keeping the pain controlled with nothing but Tylenol!  She will be getting some homecare help for a couple of weeks, which sounds better than a rehab hospital.

MaryPage

Loud whistle and a whoop de do!  Dancing a jig around this apartment.

Sigh!  That helper sounds like the Most divine Christmas present possible.

HELLO......I am home and doing quite well.  Surgery was Friday and went as scheduled.  I got no sleep that night as the long lasting shoulder block went away at 10 PM.  They had me on a light load Tramadol and it just did not do any good.  I moved up to oxycodone around 3 AM and then started to get some relief but still could not be comfortable for me to sleep😩😪
The next day I was groggy as could be from the strong meds and could not do the stair steps required to go home.  They kept me another night and after a good night of sleep, I was able to do the stairs!  They did request I have in home care for two weeks and I am thankful for that.  No way am I capable of going out to a clinic tomorrow for PT.
I thank you ALL for my continued support.  I appreciate you all so much!  My hubby continues to take creat care of me😘

Thank you, MARILYNE and BEVERLY, for putting a update in here for me!
Take care and I will look back in again when I can.

I was able to read through your posts.  I hope I can remember all I want to comment on.

First off, MARYPAGE, I am so sad for you as I read about your Dearest Friend Mart, passing on.  I know she was a life long friend and that you never wanted to be without her😩💔  Bless her heart for not want to take the awful meds that would make her even more removed from communicating with her family😩 My heart aches for you.

JACKIE, I have always been a "hard stick", so I certainly understand what you also go through.  I try my best to just TAKE the poking around and resticking many times. It is not fun.  They took me to pre-op.  Tried 4 times to get a vein to use with a no go. Called the nurse that could do a vein finder and she could not find one.  We waited 45 minutes for the Doppler machine to take a look.  They tried three times and finally put one in at the inside bend of the elbow.  Not comfortable at all.  Took me to the OR and the anesthesiologist refused to use it as it was not flowing well.  He and the head OR Nurse went round and round and both got a bit heated up at each other!  There was a LOT of eyebrow raising going on.  Finally the anesthesiologist said, " she has been through way to much; so I am going to put her to sleep.  I woke up with my intravenous tube in a totally different spot, so he found one, but I wonder how much went on before it was accomplished 😩‼️   After I got to my room, they tried to use this vein and it was not flowing well so they tried for a new one again to no avail.  They babied the old one with minimal flow just to keep it open, but we're not able to use intravenous drugs at all.  I only had pill form.  They wanted to do some intravenous drug as my kidneys were not functioning totally well but could not get the vein open, so pulled it out as it was bleeding and back flushing,!  Then I was told to drink LOTS of water many times over!  I did,

Jenny...
...maybe better we dont know... ;)

CallieOK

Welcome home, Jenny.

Mercy! What a time you had with the blood stick.  Although the lab can usually get mine just below the crook of my elbow, I remember once when she had to use the vein on the inside of my wrist. That HURT! - and was bruised for a very long time.

Did you feel like yelling "Time Out" to the OR staff?  I agree with Jackie that it may be better that you didn't know everything that went on.

Glad it's over and hope your recovery goes well....with NO needles!!!!  :smitten:

Marilyne

Jenny -  Wonderful to see you posting here, so soon after your surgery!  That's a good sign.
Sorry you had to endure so much misery, in the OR, with all the poking and prodding to find a suitable vein.  Hearing the anesthesiologist say he was going to put you to sleep, must have been a relief.

So glad you have the in home care, which includes the PT. That will make life easier for both you and Bob.  We'll all be here, and  looking forward to hearing from you, whenever you feel like writing.

Vanilla-Jackie

Jenny...
...your long wait is now over..now lets hope and pray your second time round is a complete success..we can all hear your joy.. :)

Denver

Thank you for all your kind and encouraging words.  I feel I am moving in the right direction this time.

My in home PT will come early tomorrow afternoon.  I am anxious too see her as she is a nice friend now.  I SO want to move my arm......these braces are not fun, but oh so necessary.

I wish you all a good day.

I rarely take notice of our ( 1 person likes this ) button underneath our postings but, i am assuming it is our Jenny who has been ticking our boxes recently...so i must remind myself it is there for all to use as and whenever...I will have to tell myself, Jackie please try harder to remember to make use of it"

Shirley

Oh, poor Jenny, sometimes it takes a special person to hit that vein just right. One of my times a nurse tried over & over & couldn't get the job done & called for that "special" person. I tried to explain that the veins are tough & roll so had to hit dead on. You can see every vein in my body (for true) look like my gr-mother's... road maps. But with open heart they had veins in  both hands & arms occupied & after putting me to sleep, used one in my neck that gave me fits for a year to wearing a seat belt! Good luck that you are on the back side of problems! Thoughts & prayers with you. S
