Jeanne, I find I take a nap nearly every day, sometimes while sitting in my chair, sometimes on my bed.  I think if we nap, we need it.

Mary Ann

angelface555

I'm not fighting over food but she will eat the treats all day if she could or then dry. My vet, Pet Pride and online all say wet food is better and healthier. I'm going to give her some dry food occasionally but not all the time as I was. She will eat about a third of a three ounce can of cat food and about the same as dry, about three or four tablespoons. I don't give her more but I'm not going to leave out other food to waste.

I need to transition her to wet food and figure out a way to use smaller quantities. and with the dry food as a treat. I do not have the money to buy and throw out food for  her. One 3 ounce can is $1.25. The only one she really likes is liver in the cake form which of course is the hardest to find. Chicken or salmon seem to be what's stocked.

Mary Ann

I don't care about throwing out food for the cat, either, but that food had been out of the can a day and in the refrigerator when it was not in his dish.  I think Tom said it was 39c a 3-oz can which is why he got three of them.

My cat used to eat nothing but dry kibble - Iams Lively Senior 11+ years.  About a year ago, he began eating less, and I realized it was difficult for him to chew on his old worn down teeth. (He is 18 years old this month.)  I started buying the 3 oz cans of Fancy Feast, which cost about 65 cents a can at Petco, and is occasionally on sale for 57 cents at Safeway.  I alternate with a few of the more expensive wet food brands like Nutro Max Cat, Royal Canin, and others.  He will eat any wet food, so long as it's chopped, minced or sliced, in some sort of gravy or sauce.  He won't touch the Fancy Feast called "Classic", which is in a solid chunk.

If he doesn't like any wet food I give him, I will leave it out for a reasonable length of time, but when it starts to dry out, I just throw it into the garbage.  No point in letting it sit there, when I know he doesn't like it.  He is king of the household! :)

I've never had cat treats for him, or for any of the cats I've ever had in the past.  Now that I think about it, I realize that I never had dog treats for any of our dogs, over the years either.  It just never occurred to me . . . I guess because we have never eaten between meals in this family, so I never thought of between meal treats for the pets.

Animals can be as stubborn as our children. If they don't want to eat it they won't . I was never made to eat things and so I just did the same with the 2 girls.
I had one dog. Got him as a puppy and had been so neglected that I had to drop him off at the Vet right away. So underweight. So I spoiled it. Got the best of ground beef mixed egg in. Some thing my vet gave me for Vitimins.
(Bet I could have made meat loaf out of it )  I had fed it to the dog. Kept this up for a few month. Finely thought time to put it on dog food. With a little of the first food put on top. Ate the top but left the rest. Vet said just give the dog food. He won't starve himself. Well he sure tried. Got so weak that it could not get out of its dog basket. I went back to the ground beef. Stayed about 4 ft. away from him and he actually crawled over to me. Ate a little. then a little bit more. That dog got the best diet for the rest of its life.
Sad thing was. He always wanted to come in car and one day my husband drove off as the dog in the front yard . Ran after the car and another car hit it in the street. Wasn't but a few years old. Had a good life though.Spoiled little bugger.

It's a nightly routine for Kendrick - I pick things up at 10 pm and he comes into the room to let me know it's 10 pm!!!.  I give him fresh food then take out a couple (up to four) treats and put one on my knee which he knocks off with a paw.  I put one on the other knee and he eats that from my knee.  If I have more treats, I repeat the process, then put his food where it goes and I give him fresh water.  By the time I'm out of the bathroom, the cat has gone downstairs, either to use his litter or to sleep - or both.  He sleeps wherever he wants.

Patricia, I feel that all animals need some dry food once in a while just to clean their teeth and bring their saliva forth for digestion. I may be wrong but that is my feeling.

Mary Ann, I think, whether you want a pet or not, you have one. He trusts you enough to eat from your knee, and sleep on your bed if so chosen. I think pets really enjoy a daily routine.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

June, I know I have a cat, but for serious things, he is Annie's responsibility.  He's funny when he gets on my bed (and he does not get IN my bed) because when he settles, his head is by my knees and his rear is by my hips.  My arm does not reach to his head so I pet him somewhere in between.  I think he comes to check that I am still there and he stays about five minutes, then gets up and leaves.  I may see him once during the night, maybe three times.

It's about time for him to come in to let me know it's 10 pm.

Mary Ann

Mary Ann, you have a very loving friend in Annies' cat. I hope you are never without him. He would miss you if Annie should take him back. These four legged critters have more love to give than many human beings. God Bless you both.

Hi everyone.  We have a cloudy morning and only expect to get to 90 degrees this afternoon but not likely to get any rain.  We did get a brief downpour yesterday morning.  We have had enough rain that I didn't need to water the yard this morning.  I hope to have a fairly quiet and enjoyable day today.  I will pick up my friend from the Assisted Living Home and we will go to coffee and then I will bring him home again and head back to the church for the Wisdom class.  I do plan on making a potato salad today and perhaps a broccoli/cauliflower salad as well. Pat is really feeling no better and didn't even attempt to lay in the bed last night but slept in her easy chair, where she is not in pain.

They are making great strides on the new home across the street.  On Tuesday they put down the concert floor of the home.  Yesterday they put up most of the first floor wood for the walls and they are back there again this morning continuing the construction.

JeanneP, I have tried to rest/nap every afternoon for over 20 years.  My cardiologist told me many years ago that people would be a lot better off if they could rest/nap each day.  Of course, when we are working that isn't an option.

Hope all experience a very nice day today.

MaryPage

Another day of sparkling beauty here at bayside, but just to step outside is to be enveloped in a hot, damp towel.  Most uncomfortable.

Well, my air conditioning is roaring away, and I am flourishing.  Busy reading the newspapers with avidity, and soon will turn to my book.  Have already ordered 2 books from Barnes & Noble this morning and corresponded with my very best friend in all this world, who is also my 1st cousin, in Cincinnati.  We agree on absolutely everything, which is nice, and feel a bit forlornly abandoned by family members who have passed on.  Neither of us is in any condition to travel, so we are well aware we will never see one another again, but we ignore that and have fun reliving stories from the past and keeping up with our individual present.

Hope you each have a perfectly lovely day!

Mary Ann

I greeted the day by going to my optometrist.  Nothing much is changed but I have a touch of Mac D and Glaucoma - both.  But nothing to worry about yet.  And there is no need to change lenses as my eyes haven't changed that much since 2007!  I see her twice a year so I do keep up with what is going on with my eyes.  My eyes are still dilated from being there; it seems it takes longer for my eyes to return to normal.

Like everyone else, we will have another hot day and it already is 85 degrees at 11:25.  I don't have anything else scheduled so I can stay comfortable in the a/c.

June, you're right, I would miss the cat for a while, but I'd get used to his not being here.  And he adapts easily.  He is not a cuddly cat, in fact, ignores me much of the time, but I think he checks on me occasionally to see that I am here.

Mornin all.  Looks like some of the bikers  will be leaving today/.  Dan plans on leaving Sunday with his group.  Wish he would have sent back more pics, but guess I should be thankful for the few he did send.  LOL

Our temps are now back up in the 90's here during the day.  Cool at nite but haven't opened my window, not cool enough when I go to bed.

Have a good day all and Hugs all around......

JeanneP

No rain yet here and today will be up in the high 90s some part of our area will go over the 100 deg.
Later I have to drive 35 miles or so. Easier than having GD bring the children over here to do  anything. Just to hot for me to be out on the town. So will wait until about 5:30 and head over to my Daughters. Until then just stay indoors. Maybe get another nap in about 1pm. Can do some cooking for the freezer as the meat already thawed out.

Surprised that my grass as not burned up as no rain for at least 9 days. They again are saying tomorrow night. Never did get my house Jet washed . so dirty. Specially windows. Car the same way. Been washed 3 times.
Would like to see a fashion show being held on Saturday at the Botanical Gardens. Mostly from the 1930s to 50s. Swimming fashions.
Also Sunday plan to see the Movie "The Innocents " True story. Sad though.

Good afternoon, like everon else it is vewry hot here.

Larry, I sure hope Pat starts feeling better.

MaryAnn, I think it is good I have Taffy, she makes me move.  I would miss her. I have to feed her, clean her box etc.  She is a confort, when I watch TV she sets in my lap, if I am on the PC she is either setting on the desk or in my lap again. She does not want me to pick her though.  At night she set by me in bed, about 10min while I am reading. then she comes and spends the rest of the night in my computer chair.  It has a nice cushion.  If I get up in the middle of the night, she does have to check.
she likes Meow Mix with gravey or scause and Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers Dry food is also fancy feast non others.

Gloria, I am not sure where Kendrick spends the night; it is not on my bed, but he often comes to check on me during the night.  He'll curl up beside me and stay about five minutes.  When I get up I sometimes look to see where he is and he might be on his tower but more often is nowhere on the first floor and more likely in the family room in the lower level.  There is a couch and recliner there where he probably sleeps.  He's on the floor in the living room now.

Larry.  I just back and made my Sausage Biscuits. I forgot to get the frozen Biscuits at my favourite store . Just use to one kind. Don't bother making my own with them. But as Aldi is across the road then I just went and got theirs.
Called Bake House. Surprised. Rise good. Just like Homemade.  Try them. I will from now on.
Now to eat one...

Every day now some item in the news, and to be completely honest, some days more than one, serves to remind me how startling are the custom and culture differences in just a couple of generations.  In my day, three year olds were put to bed by seven or seven thirty at night, and under no circumstances were they taken out at night.  Nor would anyone allow a three year old to ride a roller coaster!  Admittingly, a huge nationwide fear of polio, not to mention a small percentage of vehicle owners, kept my peers at home when my own generation was three, but when we were parents we were considered unforgivingly neglectful if we did not have our little ones safely tucked in their little beds rather than out in crowded fair grounds or amusement parks.  I wonder where, when, and how this notion that three year olds could go anywhere at any time and do ANYthing came about!  Astonishing and sad.  Oh, so very sad.

So much has changed in this world
that it is hard for me to compare, "then and now"...

Below are a couple of pictures of Fe,
some with her Mother...  Madison and Ethan
are the very best parents  .... different I am sure
then what I was like with I was young parent....
But they are the greatest.

Sandy, Fe is a cute little girl.  How old is she now?  My great-grand niece was six months old at the end of July and it took that long for me to see her; she's a doll, a very happy child.

I don't remember a lot at three, however, I do remember some.  That was the year I went to the high school to meet my dad one night only he had gone to church.  The high school was about a half mile from our house and a policeman found me.  My mother was in shock!  But no way would my folks have taken me to any place, then let me roam by myself.  Nor would they have let Norm loose in anything like that.  We knew who was in charge and it was not us!

Mary Ann

MaryPage

Never us, Mary Ann!  Yes, such totally different attitudes.

I was, of course, referring to the evening news about a 3 year old who was hospitalized after falling from a roller coaster.  I do not know whether he has died or not.  And then, just a couple of days ago, a story about a little boy decapitated on an unbelievably high water raft sort of roller coaster.  I was 19 before ever I went on a roller coaster, and then I had to be double dared into doing it.  And I've never done it since!

Sandy, she is adorable.  I so wish I knew how to put Our Ava in here like that, but I just do not and that is that.

Fe is a little older then 3 months..
A lot of changes going on now.   They put her
in the swimming pool with a floating vest that keeps
her head up.   She love to play in the pool with
it and cries when they take her out.

Time is sure flying by,  but what tickles me
most is what good parents she has.  Madison
has take to Motherhood like Fe has taken to the
pool...

I never thought that I would be a Great Gramma...
but my oldest Grand Daughter Madison came
through for me.

I don't think that another one will come along
very soon...

Have a good evening,  Everyone!

Good Morning from the hot
and humid rocky coast of Maine.

Yesterday I decided to go back on my weight watchers
plan so that I can get back to loosing weight.
It is time to get serious,  again!

As I have said before..  I was on a year long journey to
loose weight,  but have hit  a plateau,  that I
couldn't seem to get over.

So yesterday I re-joined "Weight Watchers" and
hopefully I will get back on my downward track.
It seems that every time I am on WW,  I do
lose consistently,  but as soon as I
try to do it "on my own",  I start loosing
the battle of the bulge.

Fortunately I am maintaining my weight loss,
now  I just have to get back to utilizing the good
habits that WW affords me. (Side by side with
intermittent fasting)  ...

It is always  something!

Hi everyone.  We have another overcast morning but expected to get to about 93 this afternoon.  The housekeeper will be here later this morning and Pat has a chiropractic appointment.  The good news here is that Pat is feeling a lot better.  When I got home yesterday afternoon, she told me that all of a sudden the severe pain was gone although the soreness remains.  She was able to walk without the cane or walker and actually felt like fixing the main dish for dinner last evening.  She did sleep again last night in her easy chair as is more comfortable than laying in bed.  I am looking forward to a quieter day today and tomorrow as other than drive Pat to her appointment this morning my schedule is clear.

MaryPage, we are also experiencing very high humidity as the last few days we have had brief rain spells which sent the afternoon humidity soaring.

Mary Ann, always good news when a medical test shows no further decline in a condition such as you have with your eyes.

Joan, sure you will be happy to get that call from Dan that he is safely back home.  However, traveling in a group is a comfort and sure the trip is much more enjoyable with others.  What do they do for these days in Sturgis?

JeanneP, I am also surprised that our yards are looking so green as they didn't at this time last year.  We are beginning to experience some early drought conditions with the lakes going down a bit.  It sounds like you have a busy weekend planned with those special events. I think the can of bisquits that burst open in the refrigerator were the Aldi brand.

Sandy, beautiful pictures of Fe.  What are those bands?  I have never seen anything like it before.  I take it that she likes them.  Belonging to Weight Watcher's provides accountability.  I had good results with it several years ago.

MaryPage, I just heard on the news that the little three year old is still alive.  I would never take a young child on a roller coaster or let them ride in bumper cars.

deAngel, I was really shocked when Pat told me the severe pain had left as quickly as it had come on her.  I am encouraging her not to push too hard too soon as it might bring it back.  I am glad you have Taffy for company.  While pets are a responsibility they bring a person a lot of joy.

MaryTX

Larry, I am so happy that Pat is getting some relief from her chiropractor visits.  After she finishes, she needs to remember to go back periodically for a "maintenance" visit just to make sure everything stays okay.  Voice of experience speaking :).

I've suffered with fibro, sciatica and disc problems for years.  I always "pooh-pawed" chiropractors as quacks until I did go to one. They can work wonders and I wish I wasn't so hardheaded about going to one.

"Accountability" is really what makes WW work for me.

Larry. Now if Pat is beginning to feel better and has been sleeping in the chair. Maybe it is the Mattress. Have you thought about the ones that can be worked like the Hospital Beds?  I could stand my head to be higher and at time my feet instead of just flat.

Candy. Now try to sell the truck you have yourself. Better to trade with a dealer if you don't have a car.  Now your truck should sell fast. Very popular. Wish I had it myself. I miss the one I had. Like a truck because feel higher up when driving. But as I don't drive long distances now like I use to. Just fly then I just need a small car.
Can't believe it,today to be even warmer and yesterday was 95. With the humidity putting it up to 104 deg. I drove out of town but not until 5:30Pm and was driving back at 9:30pm. Not to crazy at driving at night anymore. Just Semi after Semi. And all the lights on the other side of the Interstate are so bright. Rolled the windows down and was nice and cool though.
Family leave for Connecticut and home tomorrow. Think my GD will be glad to get the 3 children back home.

Larry, they went to Mount Rushmore the other day, and they went to the Military Cemetary another, just sight seeing I guess, I really have no idea.  Tis his first time  and he did call me the other day.  Just checking in to make sure all was ok. :)  They are leaving Sunday to come home.  Am sure I will know more then.  :)

The headline on our local newspaper this morning says we are in for DANGEROUS HEAT this weekend.  That's what it says, folks!

Chip left early to spend a couple of days in Virginia.  He took the trash and recycling out before he left, so I have no reason to stir out of my lovely a/c.  I will go downstairs to the foyer to fetch my mail late this afternoon, otherwise here I stay!

The Capital newspaper is also full of how popular Pickleball has become all over town.  Seems we have all ages playing it and finding it quite addictive.  Do any of you play?

angelface555

#2129
Good morning everyone, I hope your day is going well. We are sunny now, but you never know when that may change from hour by hour.

MaryPage, I had to Google pickleball as I had never heard of it. I thought it was like soccer, and it is not.

Farrah has a new habit. When she wants my attention or a treat, she comes and sits in front of my chair quietly watching me until I look down at her. She remains quiet and watchful  until I rise from my chair. It's slightly unnerving to see her intensity.

Larry, I'm glad Pat is feeling better. I wonder if it is the barometric pressure? I know that quick changes effect my arthritis, It can get worse and then better quickly with changes in air pressure.

Sandy, I too was wondering about the bands. Fe is such a happy baby and yes you can see the rapid changes in her through the photos you post. I was never good with WeightWatchers, and it seems that I don't "play well" with others.

I find plateaus when I am close to breaking another ten pounds. Each time it looks, so I wonder if it is somehow mental? I am exactly in the middle as it is the same amount to lose to reach my goal as it is the amount I've lost.

My accountability is seeing the weight listed and the graph going down. It offends me when I give in, and that chart stays the same or inches upward due to something I've done. I don't do fasting or the exercise I should with this arthritis but will come later. The weight bearing affects my arthritis to an alarming degree as it does my mobility.

Good morning, Joan, it is fun to see the Facebook photos you are posting from Dan and friends. Thank you.

MaryAnn, your trip to see your dad reminds me of the early morning, two am, knock we had one time. An unknown couple was outside with my naked two year old. They found her standing up and swinging at a nearby school playground and were going door to door, hoping to locate her family. It turns out, she drug a chair to the door, used a broom to unlatch the outside door and worked the deadbolt and found herself outside!

I was torn between being surprised at her mental prowess and fearful, so very fearful about what could have happened to her! We ended up locking her in the bedroom at night which worried my mother, but what else could we do?

This is the same child who one evening, took flour, dumped it in the middle of our shag carpet rental, made a depression and when we caught her, was in the process of dropping a dozen eggs into that depression! She said she was making a cake!! This incident was not long before her escape to the playground and thus our locking her in for her safety and ours.
