Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

I was talking a little earlier to my neighbor who is has a contact whose company has an office in Kyiv. His coworker there says it is so much worse than we are being told. As you may expect, communications are spotty.

It does sound like Putin is completely losing it, though.

All the attention on him and his tantrums have taken the spotlight off some of the other major troublemakers in the world and the border situation. I sure hope none of this turns into a cascade.

FlaJean

Marilyne, we haven't heard from you, and I hope your  daughter and granddaughter are doing OK.  Life is so unpredictable, we never know what is coming next.  You and your family are in my prayers.

The weather is very pleasant here today.  I hope everyone is having a good day.

Marilyne

Jean - Thanks for asking.  Yes, things have settled down, and almost back to normal.  Hoping you and Larry are both doing well, and also your son and his wife?  I think about your granddaughter-in-law, and always hope that she and the two children, are getting along okay?  it must be so difficult for her,  being alone, and raising the children by herself.  I hope she has parents here in California, who can be with her some of the time?

Jenny - So glad that the visit with your Dad, was a big success!  He is a strong and amazing man, to still be enjoying life in his late 90's.  We do see lots of women now, living to 90's and 100's, but not so many men.
How are Dave and the kids doing?  I hope that school is keeping them busy, and that Kate is still keeping up with her dancing?
Keep us posted on how your shoulder is progressing?

MARILYN, I have been thinking about your daughter and praying for her recovery.  I am so happy to see your post.  I told my dad yesterday how proud I am to write on many of these medical forms I have been having to fill out recently, that he is 98 years old and has virtually no other medical history to write down.  All of my parent, grandparent illnesses were pretty much all self inflicted issues.  Lung cancer from smoking, etc.  It feels great to go down through their whole list of diseases etc., marking NO NO NO all the way down‼️‼️

We have been invited to go out to dinner tonight with our son and grandsons.  What fun.....going out into the world to eat just like we used to do.  He said, "don't forget to bring your vaccine card"!

MARSGAL, I am not one bit surprised that things in Ukraine are worse than we can ever imagine😩😩🙏

Have a good rest of your day.

Jenny

Marilyne, so good to hear from you that things are just about normal.  Our son-in-law had his zoom session with the doctor and now is scheduled in April for his MRI.  I don't understand why it takes so long to get anything done.

Jenny, I hope you are able to get all your medical problems soon taken of.

Today is a beautiful day.  Gigi is on her way over so will make this short.  Hope everyone is doing OK.

Becky, my daughter who lives in Kansas City, Missouri, rented a house right on the dunes in the Outer Banks of North Carolina for the coming week, and invited her two daughters and their families to join them.  The one in Kansas City could not, but the one in St. Louis is there with her husband and two little boys.  Mateo has been here a couple of times with his grandmother, but Solo, who will be seven in May, has never seen the ocean.  Mateo, who is an old hand ocean-wise, will be ten in December.  They were all here for  my 90th birthday celebration back in 2019, but Judith & George had to get right back for work then, and could not take Solo to the ocean.  So Becky sent me a video just now of the two little boys squealing and dancing in and out of the water breaking on the beach, and Solo is Out of his mind with excitement.  Lovely thing to see in the midst of this time full of terrible news everywhere.

For those who are unfamiliar with the Atlantic beaches, Becky, who is a native of Maryland, wanted to give them all a bare-nature scene of the ocean, and that is extremely hard to do these days.  Our Maryland beaches are all commercial boardwalks and honky tonk.  If you yearn for uncommercialized views, the Outer Banks are for you.

The house they are in is painted a bright, crayola blue with lots of white trim.  It, too, looks divine with all of its porches and verandas.

I got a kick out of one of our national news anchors (actually, it was a 2nd tier sub) last night.  When giving a news bit about the humongous cargo ship that has grounded here in the Chesapeake Bay, he ad libbed to say it had come aground "in the ocean."  When you were shown a photo of the event, you could understand his wandering from what must have been his script, because all you could see was water in every direction around the ship.  People who have not visited this area have no idea how huge our Chesapeake Bay really is!

Marilyne

Mary Page - Sounds like your two great-grandson's are having a wonderful time at the ocean!   The water temperature must not be too cold, even though it's only the first day of Spring?   Splashing around in the ocean here in N. California this time of year, would be uncomfortably frigid. . .  . but I know kids don't care about things like that.

I also saw that cargo ship, on our National news last night.  I thought about you, when they said it was grounded in the Chesapeake Bay.  There are still dozens of them waiting to unload their goods, outside the ports of Los Angeles and  San Diego, in Southern Cal.  Cargo ships are so immense and in my opinion, so ugly!!   Remember in the "not so long ago", when there wasn't such a thing as a Cargo Ship?   That was in the good old days, when everything we needed was manufactured, or grown, in the USA.

MaryPage

Oh, Marilyne, No one has told me what the temperature is down there, but I suspect the water is too cold to enter.  The boys are fully dressed in shorts and tops and are wearing flip flops.  They are dancing in the very shallow wavelets that come up highest on the beach.  They do not have on jackets or sweaters, so my guess is that it is mild, without being hot.  Only their feet are getting wet.  Becky is taking the video.

MaryPage

Okay, I just searched it. "Temperatures Outer Banks NC today"

It shows that 69º is the highest it got to there today.  I would not choose to enter the water, and I doubt they will.  There is MUCH to take the boys to see, though.  Kitty Hawk, where there is a memorial on the spot the Wright brothers first flew.  The "Lost Colony" site, where the Sir Walter Raleigh settlement disappeared.  Wasn't that the group that had our 1st American born baby?  Virginia Dare?  It was Anne Arundel who was first born here in Maryland, and our county is named for her.

There is simply heaps more.  They will have a Wonderful week.  Becky is a huge ocean lover, and she misses it out there in Missouri.  She just wants to sit on the porch and watch the huge waves come rolling in.  She never tires of that.  Me, I'm a river and lake person, myself.  We are all different.  Becky & Sam will be here next week, on their way home.  I think we have them for 3 days, so it will be a rather frantic time as everyone tries to get over to Debi's to see them.  Becky has been coming once or twice a year for the past 50 years.  Sometimes more.  But then we had Covid.

And it is only supposed to get up to the high 50's on the OBX today, Mary Page.  The children may go wading or swimming but I would not.   :2funny:

However, it is a beautiful sunny day here in Cary, NC, (next door to Raleigh) and at the beach, too, 150 miles away from me.

So glad your family is enjoying their time at our beautiful Outer Banks.  They were wise to come at this time..  Later on in the year it gets really crowded.

Thank you for your input, Phyllis.  I am sure you have visited Kitty Hawk (right on the dunes) and the Lost Colony (isn't it across the little bridge on the mainland?) more than once.  Do they still put on the Lost Colony play?  I brought my little girls down here back around 1962, and we sat outdoors in a stockade after dark and they put on the play.  I think it was some sort of anniversary of the colony, for there were a bunch of North Carolina dignitaries (governor?) sitting down in front and standing to be recognized.  My memory carries me no further than that.  I DO recall our being scared right out of our wits when the Indians suddenly leapt in from all directions.  We were not expecting any action like that, and were concentrating on the stage.  I think Becky fell in love with that area way back then, and she just a little thing.  Now she is back with her grandchildren.  Much of life is a circle like that.

MaryPage

I am sure every single one of you saw and heard it, but Just In Case!

The adorable little Ukrainian girl who sang the song from "Frozen" for the people in the bomb shelter has escaped to Poland, and there she sang before a HUGE audience for a fund raiser.  She sang the Ukrainian national anthem, all by herself up there on the stage and a cappella. I wanted to cry.  One little tiny snaggle-toothed girl, representing all of the Ukrainian nation and its people with their hopes.  She stood up there and spat squarely in Poo-tins eye.  She perfectly epitomized the spirit of that nation!  You can Google it in video if you missed it. Grab a Kleenex first.

Looks like the Soo Locks are gearing up now. Edgar B. Speer is heading up the St. Clair River heading for Thunder Bay, and the locks let four Coast Guard cutters up into Lake Superior for Ice Ops duty. CCGC Samuel Risley is heading to Thunder Bay, while the three USCG cutters are, at the moment, standing by just above the locks. I am looking forward to the new shipping season.

Friends were up from West Virginia on Sunday so we went to lunch at a local restaurant I had never been to. What a wonderful meal. I chose the Mandarin Duck on Jasimine Rice which had plenty of snow peas and a side of asparagus. The other two had steak dishes. One had Cuban beans as a side (which he said was good) and the other had the biggest dish of Brussels sprouts I have ever seen served. This restaurant is most definitely on my go to list in future when I want to splurge a little.

For the second time in the last few months, the USPS failed to deliver a package which was supposed to arrive in the afternoon. The first time they indicated that the address label was damaged, and yesterday the excuse was that my sidewalk or driveway was blocked. Both were bogus. When I called the post office, they looked and the label was fine on the first one. Since my sidewalk/porch are not and were not obstructed and no one parks in front of my house, I can assume that the person delivering the packages in the evening didn't want to bother carrying a heavy package to the porch in the dark. I forgot to turn the porch light on like I usually when I am expecting a package late. Be that as it may, I suspect that when the sun goes down the USPS stops delivering and makes an excuse why the packages are not delivered by Amazon's promised delivery time.

BELATED HAPPY BIRTHDAY WISHES 🌷 J A C K I E 🌷
Best wishes for a nice year to come. I apologize for my late greeting.  I am a bit preoccupied by my medical issues🤪🤪

It is one year ago today when I fell at the airport in Tulsa OK‼️‼️ This year has been nothing but a huge challenge......loosing our Michele....two shoulder surgeries 😩😩🤪. Today I go for my EMG test to find out why I can not lift my arm🤷🤷. I am dreading it, and yet I want to know WHY, so I can hopefully move nwith a working shoulder🙏‼️🙏‼️

Although I have not responded to the many interesting subjects you all write about, I sure enjoy reading them.

I hope you all are doing fine🥰

Jenny, ---
Wishing you the best of luck with your "Arm Investigation",  Hopefully there's a simple correction that will correct the problem.  While it may be simple I realize it might be difficult for you, but hopefully the results will be worth it.  My right arm will only go up about half way (shoulder level) from a past surgery - so I will be following your progress. When I had mine done the Doc said  - if there's further problems we can always put in a new shoulder joint (fright, fright, fright).
