Oldiesmann: Relevant links can be found in topics in the Homemaking, Food & Garden board. I'll see about moving them over to articles here when I get a chance.

Oldiesmann: Found them. They're on the CP site: https://www.christianphotographers.com/recipes/recipeindex.html

Oldiesmann: I'm not finding anything related to recipes on the site. I'll do some digging through the Internet Archive and see if I can dig them up. It's possible that got lost in the big server crash back in 2016

Jenny - I am also in agreement with Jackie and Rick.  No need to apologize or to put yourself on such a "guilt trip".    Don't feel badly about what friends and neighbors have to say about your situation.   It is no ones business except yours, plus they don't know your father.

Many of us here  in S&F understand  what it's like to care for an uncooperative parent who lives a far distance from us . . .  especially when the parent refuses any help from outside sources,  like a care home, hospice or even a visiting nurse who comes to the house.

I'm glad  that your brother has stepped up and is doing what's necessary.    You take care of yourself, and Bob too.  I hope Bob is getting treatment for his A-Fib, and that you are finally getting some relief for your  shoulder and your other health problems.  Please keep us posted. ❤️

Jenny...
... well the last thing you need are people upsetting you and telling you over the phone " how awful you are,  " that in my opinion is just nasty and uncalled for.....

CallieOK

I also agree with Jackie and Rammel - and know what it's like to be a "long distance child" when a parent is having these kinds of health issues.  Happened to me when we lived in Leadville and I needed/wanted to be with my Dad in Oklahoma.

Drop those busybodies like hot coals, Jenny!  If you see any of them, sail past them like you are the Empress of this World!

To think that people stand in judgment of other people in that way in this day & age!  They should be treated to the same and taste the bitterness.

I cannot tell you how many times you have written that you & Bob were off to check on your Dad and see what you could do for him.  Gnashing my teeth here.

The day comes for us all when we, ourselves, are the patient and we, ourselves, need the help we are no longer in a position medically or physically to give.  That is where I am now, and it feels humiliating, but, at the same time, I am grateful to the marrow for every crumb of assistance.

Best Blessings on you & Bob, Jenny.  Just keep on keeping on.  You have always been a giver, rather than a taker.  It will come back to you: just you wait and see!

Jenny, I empathize with you over the comments you are getting from old friends and neighbors. My sister and I, along with Mom and Dad had a similar experience when my uncle passed away. He was in Hawaii, and we are here on the east coast. By the time we were notified, we had only a narrow window of time to get to the funeral in Honolulu. The tight schedule did not allow for any flight delays (my sister checked), nor would we have had time to get to a hotel with our luggage before the service. Dad was in no condition to travel. We got castigated for not going. The person that went on the rant was a stepcousin who, from what Dad said, Uncle did not like very much. I don't know about Mom and Dad, but we kids never met her and rarely saw Aunt and Uncle. Sue and I were a bit offended by her attitude, but I guess she was thinking of her mom (our aunt) at the time. The episode still rankles me though.

Sue is just back from a visit with a childhood friend in Huntington Beach, CA. Even thoug she had an epidural before going, all the walking activated her sciatica again. She enjoyed the weather and the trip to the Getty Museum among other things. They eat out a lot including a trip to some burger place she had heard was very good and wanted to try, Sorry, can't remember the name of the chain. She talked about the block party type gatherings and the neighborhood fireworks. I'll probably hear more later today.

Speaking of neighborhood fireworks, I didn't hear a single one here, except for maybe four going off in the distance, possibly Harrisburg's display. Still, it was mighty quiet for the 4th. The news reported that some idiot shouted "gun" during the River Front event, and it resulted in many of the people scattering and leaving personal belongings behind. The cops couldn't find anyone who saw a gun or who yelled in the first place. The items left behind were gathered and taken to one of the churches for identification and pick-up by their owners. I wonder if that had anything to do with not hearing much. The news didn't say.

MarsGal -  sounds like your sister, had a good time visiting her old friend out here in California.  Huntington Beach is a beautiful beach town, typical of many along the coast from Santa Barbara on down to San Diego.   I grew up in that area, and spent lots of time at Huntington.  My brother learned to surf at that beach, and went on to do a little professional surfing.  (contests, as well as a few surfing movies.).  That was a long time ago, in the 1950's.   Glad she had a chance to see the Getty Museum . . . one of the best.  The burger chain Sue was hoping to visit, was maybe, In 'N Out Burger?

It's a beautiful Saturday here, so far.  Predicted to be sunny and warm, but not too hot.  The temp dropped to 55 overnight, so it's still cool here at almost 10:00 am.   So far, not as many wildfires happening, as we usually have by July.  There is one burning up in the Sierra foothills, that caused to city of Jackson, to be evacuated . . . however, it is 65% contained at this point, so will be okay - unless the wind picks up.

The bad news here in "Silicon Valley", is that there has been a big surge in Covid cases.  The newest Omicron variant, is not as dangerous, as those in the past, but still causing the hospitals to fill up again, and a new mask mandate.

Hope we hear from Jenny today, that things have calmed down a bit for her father, and that he is feeling better.

Oh, I may have found Johann's problem with getting kicked out. It was doing the same thing tpme after the last upgrade here. After a while, I noticed that I was only being signed on for one hour. Up until then, I had it set (and it stayed that way) for forever. Now I have to change it from one hour to one day every time I log on. I haven't gotten kicked out since. So, maybe, just maybe, that is what is happening to Johann.

Marilyne, Yes, it is In N" Out Burger.

It is with grave sadness that I must tell you that MY DEAR DADDY past away Sunday, 7/10/22 at 10:50AM MST.  We got a early flight out of Denver on Saturday 7/9,  all arranged by Dr. Dave, to Phoenix. We arrived at my Dads side in time to let him know we were here and he was able to acknowledge us....call us by name....and most importantly to tell us that he loved us dearly and that we loved him❣️🙏

Thanks to hospice, the meds were started and he did not suffer.  Dr. Dave was here all day, but had to return home to his children.  We are so thankful to him for getting us here🙏

I thank you ALL for your kind words of support ALWAYS‼️ I have glanced at your posts but will read them when I get home.  We are leaving this afternoon. We must get back for our medical needs.

My best wishes to you all.

Thank you God for allowing Jenny to get to her dying father in time to say a final goodbye... prayer hands..gif

Dear Jenny - I feel so bad for you, and know that you're suffering right now, and that the reality is just beginning to sink in.  From what you have told us, your Dad lived a good and productive life, that was always filled with love from friends and family.
You have been through so much sadness  this past year, plus your many personal health issues.  Prayers continuing for you, that the healing will begin, and you will soon feel stronger.

CallieOK

Sympathy, prayers and loving thoughts to you, Jenny.

MarsGal

Jenny, my condolences to you and the rest of the family.

Beverly

Jenny - I am so sorry you've lost your Dad. I've followed your life for years both here and in SeniorNet and know what a loving daughter you have been. I'm so glad you were there in time to say good-bye.

Beverly

To the rest of you wonderful people, I have missed connecting with all of you, but I've continued to read your messages.

Johann - I was so happy to see you here. Hope you'll come back soon.

If I'm awake at 2:30 a.m. tonight (which happens all too often!), I'll try to see July's super moon. The skies have been clear most nights lately.

I'll be back!

MarsGal

Hah! Beverly, I beat you up last night. I got up at approx. 1:45am, not because of the super moon which I forgot about but because Lucy decided to barf all over the bed -- with me in it. Went downstairs to sleep, got surrounded by all three cats and couldn't get back to sleep. Ended up washing the bedding at 3am this morning.

I was checking out the ship web cams this morning after looking at the James Webb photos. Glad I did. Tall ship NAO Nino was heading up the St. Clair at Marine City. Pretty sight with the sun just peaking over the low clouds, low river fog in the background too. Sky all pink and pale blue. And I just caught Inland Seas at Port Huron. St. Lawrence 2 is behind her and should be within camera range shortly NAO Nina is coming up on St. Clair cam now and will pass Port Huron within maybe 2 hours. Niagra is still on the Detroit River, below the city. Meanwhile, I missed the Pride of Baltimore which it looks like will be making a pit stop at Alpena.

It seems The Tall Ship Festival has arrived on the Great Lakes again, but the schedule is minimal. They just completed the festival activities at Cleveland, OH and are heading up to Midland, CA. After that, it is up to Two Harbors, MN and then back down to Erie, PA. Only four stops?

Well, that didn't take long. I am once again surrounded by cats.

MaryPage

I love those tall ships so much, and, of course, we get them here, too.

The Pride is our own, but the Eagle and others come to the Chesapeake often.  They come from all over the world.  I, like Sandy, have a Window on The World.  Mine faces a big, glistening body of water, and every kind & sort of boat or ship comes and goes on those waters.  How lucky am I!

CallieOK

Marsgal, Thank you for mentioning the tall ships on the Streamtime webcams.  I hadn't watched those in a while and was glad I could rewind and see the tall ships.  Will need to check back more frequently.

I've been watching bears fishing for salmon at a river falls in northern Minnesota.

"Not so hot" today in central Oklahoma but, according to the weather gurus, we're heading into an 8 day stretch of over 100 degree temps.  :P

Jackie, are air conditioners popular in England?  I was there in 1985 and again in 1995 and don't remember hotels having them.

Marsgal,  thank you so much for mentioning the tall ships on the webcams.  I hadn't watched those for a while and was able to rewind to see them.
Just saw a sailboat regatta on the lake beginning at 19:00 on the screen clock.  Lots of multi-colored sails on lots of boats!

Rammel, I quit the video when it showed someone knocking on a door.  What was it about?

Mosquito spraying guy was here this morning.  He always empties out my birdbath so I went out about 7:00 p.m. to fill it. You northerners would probably say it was hot  ;) - but this part of the country calls it "pleasantly warm" when the sun goes behind the trees or below the horizon.  I love the long summer evenings.

Sleep well, Everyfriend and have pleasant dreams.

I tried again.  That was a Good Deed.   There really are still thoughtful kind people in this world.  Too bad we don't hear more about them.

Beverly

I've been blessed with another great-grandchild, Wyatt James David Olenio. Parents are Emilie (my youngest granddaughter) and Zach. He joins big brother Wesley. This makes four in one year! (Total count is 10)

Callie - I remember the heat in Oklahoma.  :) We have similar weather here in Florida. I don't mind it as long as the A/C keeps working. One year out there we had nearly two weeks of 100+ and no rain. Every single leaf of the curly willow tree dropped. I was afraid it was dead but the next spring it got all new leaves.

MarsGal - I was awake at 2:30 so got up to see the super moon. I've seen some that were more impressive. At times like this I wish I had a high powered lens on my camera. Oh, my! What a disaster to happen in the middle of the night. Was Lucy sick?

FlaJean

Marilyne. Please read your lmessages.  I sent a message about my going into Hospice to the group. FlaJean

...no, air conditioners are not the norm here in UK, as we very rarely go into a summer heat-wave but, our temps are to be a record breaking 98F and 95F on Monday and Tuesday of next week....I already have a desk top-floor electric oscillating fan with another more powerful one on its way tomorrow...

MarsGal

Beverly, both Oscar and Lucy have a cat variety of a herpes simplex virus that attacks the sinuses. They both dribble snot and sneeze a lot. Lucy has a particularly hard time breathing well and her one eye is tearing now. There is no cure for it, but the once-a-year med they get is supposed to help suppress it some. If they end up with a bacterial sinus infection on top of it, it makes it all the worse for them. They were both up two weeks ago for antibiotic shots which helped Oscar more than it did Lucy. So, we are going to try to give her oral antibiotics. That, I can almost guarantee you will not go well. Maybe I should pick up a suit of armor when I go over to pick up the meds. Lucy also has a thyroid condition which does not help. At least I can put the meds for that in her food. She lost her hearing several years ago, probably from the infections. So far, Shan has not picked it up, which is surprising considering it is contagious.

This morning I checked to see if I could find a list of the tall=ships participating in this years' Tall Ship Challenge. I couldn't find a list like they had three years ago, only stating that there are three to five ships expected to participate. What a shame. I am guessing COVID and now the fuel prices have a lot to do with it. Who know, maybe the Appledore's IV and V will show up at Midland or Two Harbors even if not participating in the challenge. One or both of the Appledore's are based out of Bay City, MI.

MaryPage

Beverly, congratulations on your tenth!  Isn't it amazing how our hearts immediately expand to include more and more and ever more!

My 28th is now 8 months old and crawling all over the place as though there were to be no tomorrow to explore the world in.  Her elder sister, Ava, age six, came by to wave at me up on my balcony yesterday, and she reports that Cleo "gets around Really Fast!"  Oh, they are just So Much Fun!

FlaJean, you will be able to relax and be in comfort in Hospice Care.  My Bob was so beautifully tended to, and I have felt a huge gratitude ever since.  That is where I will be headed eventually, whenever that comes.  I think rather sooner than later.  I promise you I will be thinking about you and sending you gentle hugs.  Blessings.
