Thursday evening already!

My brother has finished all he had to do in AZ today and will be heading home tomorrow with Dads cremains. It still feels so surreal that dad is really gone😩

This summer has sure passed quickly.... Kate has returned to dancing EVERYDAY after being off for one month.  School starts the 8th of August, so their summer break is nearly over.

We had another doozie of a storm last night.  They say it was 2 inches worth 🥰🥰

Check out my new avatar picture of our new 8 week old Grandson, Leon.

Have a good evening.

Morning everyone. I hope everyone is doing okay. This heatwave is a bit much, isn't it? The humidity is encouraging my arthritis to flare up a bit.

I am not sure where exactly, but it looks like we have our first Monkeypox case in Central PA. Also, locally, West Nile is popping up again. Mississippi has a new to the area bacteria that causes a deadly disease popping up along the coast. Looks like we can expect to see more of this if the heat doesn't back off.

The flooring is in. The guy that is doing the dry-wall finishing will be back this morning. I am not sure who else will be here today, but next up will be the cabinet install, I think. Not sure when the new lighting and wiring will be finished off, but my new ceiling light/fan will not arrive until around the 8th. I need to order my dishwasher today. It should arrive around the 6th.

Oscar and Shan took a tour of the new flooring yesterday. Lucy hasn't seen it yet. Because there is some exposed wiring within their reach, I couldn't leave the door open to let cooler air in. The window fan temp generally shows it up in the high 80's up to about 92o at times, and that is with the door wide open, and two fans going.

I had the pleasure of seeing Niagara sail up past Port Huron yesterday morning to join the others at the next tall ships event, but I forgot to watch for Pride of Baltimore as she went through the Soo Lochs. Oh, well. I haven't found where the others are at the moment.

Not reading much right now.

What a GREAT company you hired!  No one I have known, including several family members, who have done kitchen do overs have had them go this fast!  You must have really done your homework!

Jackie, definitely felt those precious hugs. Thanks!

Jenny - Your new grandson Leon, is adorable, as are all of your other grands!  Glad your brother has completed all that needed to be done in AZ, will be returning home.  Have you decided on a service of any kind for your Dad?    School is starting so soon - on August 8th!    In the old days, that was still the middle of Summer vacation!  Most of us didn't start the school year until after Labor Day.

MarsGal - I agree with Mary Page . . . never heard of a kitchen remodel moving along as quickly as yours!   Good to see the cats have inspected everything, and that they approve!  :D

Jean -  Adding my hugs alongside of Jackie's!    Also some big hugs  for Gigi too.   Of course she doesn't know us, but tell her we are all hoping and praying that her chemo treatment will be successful!

FlaJean

Thanks Marilyne.  Every hug is special.

Being car collected for church in a short while...doing another church bible reading, this time i have a whole lot more to read, i am pleased with that...

Enjoy your Sunday whatever is planned on your agenda..

Good Morning to everyone looking in today. :)  Hard to believe it's August First already, and that Summer 2022, is almost over.  It's been a strange and different Summer, compared to those we remember from the past.  Too much political turmoil, and too many devastating weather events.  Hoping that things calm down when Fall arrives.

Mary Page - I watched "Persuasion", and enjoyed it for the most part. I prefer the more authentic  TV and movie versions of the story that I've seen over the years, but this was enjoyable also.  I thought Dakota Johnson, was very good as Anne!

MarsGal - Hoping you have fun visiting with your two sisters this week.  It will be good to get away from the kitchen remodel for awhile.

Jackie - I admire you for doing a Bible reading in Church yesterday. So nice that you have found a Church that you like, and that you can participate in the service.

Jean and Jenny - Looking forward to hearing from you today, and that both of you will be  feeling better this week?   Hoping we hear from all others who post here.

Marylyne, thank you, yes, my bible reading went well, ( several congratulated me afterwards ) just as well as it goes out live each week... :)

Happy August Oneth.  Been a while since I posted here been have been keeping up with those who have.

Jackie, so happy you've found a church in which you can actively participate.  That's great!!!

Jean, not sure if I've ever understood just what issues you're dealing with but will add my hugs and hope for the best.

Jenny, am also glad you'll be able to memorialize your dear Dad very soon.  Your new grandson is precious!  What a smile!!! :smitten:

MarsGal, Wow! You have a BIG project going!  So glad it's being done in a "timely fashion" and know you (and the cats  ;) ) will be glad when it's finished.

Apologies to those I haven't mentioned; I'm not particularly a Jane Austen fan so wasn't "persuaded" to comment on that (Yes,I can see the eyes rolling and hear the groans  ;D ).

I've posted this elsewhere but don't think I've shared with the Bait and Tacklers.  Eleven years after my dil (Mother of The Grands) had a radical double mastectomy - her cancer has returned.  This time it's in her hip bones, lower spine and her lungs. Doctor says it isn't curable but is "manageable" with treatment.  She's on a "3 weeks on - 1 week off" program of two pills a day (one is a chemo) and a bone-strengthening shot every week. So far, she's had one round of the meds/shot and the past week has been the "off" week.
She's been very very tired and has had terrible nausea but she is a fighter and has been trying to get up and "do something" every day.  My son and Miss Emily (who lives not too far away) see that she gets out and about regularly - including going to their "place" on a small lake about 30 miles from their house.
Prayers appreciated for Mandi and the family.

Miss Emily and her "Significant Other" are bringing dinner tonight.  I promised dessert so need to get busy.

Enjoy your day, Everyfriend.

FlaJean

CallieOK, Sorry to read about Mandy and the return of her cancer. The prayers are going out by many, I'm sure.

I'm in Hospice care at home with my sweetheart caregiver. It will be 66 years together in August.

Hope everyone is doing well and happy

Callie, I am sorry to hear about Manndy. I hope they have something that can keep it in remission.

Sad news here today too. I had to have Lucy put down this morning. All I thought she was dealing with at the moment was a possible eye infection. She wasn't eating much again and apparently not drinking as much as I thought because she was dehydrated too. Apparently, the dehydration contributed to the eye problem I discovered last evening. The vet gave her a really good look over this time and decided she needed x-rays because he thought he felt a "mass" in her abdomen, and he wanted to look inside her head. Turns out her kidneys were enlarged, one just massive. Her intestines were being squished. She had spinal stenosis so bad that it must have been giving her pain. I never noticed any real mobility problems. I already knew that her thyroid condition would eventually cause kidney disease and or heart failure, so between what he found and her ongoing herpes sinus infection, I thought it best to have her put to sleep. I am not happy, but at least it is buffered by the fact that I knew it was coming and was somewhat mentally prepared. My only surprise is that she lasted as long as she did.

They guys have the cabinets installed but not completed. They still need the undercounter lights, the countertop and sink, etc. done. The painter will be here probably on Friday to do the primer coat. The dishwasher and ceiling fixture will not arrive until August 8/9.

CallieOK

Jean, thank you for the explanation.  I think Hospice is the greatest care invention ever!

MarsGal, I'm so sorry to learn about Lucy.  And amazed at how quickly the work on your kitchen is being done.  You'll be "cookin' up a storm" very soon.  ;)

Miss Emily and S.O. brought a delicious casserole and we had a good visit.  She said she and her Mom went to "the other grandmother's (Nana)" on Sunday afternoo and Mandi sat on the floor and played with some new puppies her niece's dog had had. That also gave son a chance to have some time alone - which he really needs when things are stressful.

Emily also said she had eaten lunch at LoKal (prounounced "Local"), a fairly new restaurant in the western OKC suburb where she lives that's owned by the granddaughter of our S&F's Mary Paige.  Emily said the food is really good and mentioned the "bison burgers", the meat loaf and the pork chops.

I've done necessary errands, had lunch and gotten my hair done.  Time to "crash". TTYL

Marilyne

Callie - That's very bad news, about your dil,  Mandi.  Her previous surgery, being eleven years ago, they probably were thinking that they had passed the "worry time line".  It used to be five years, then was moved up to ten - so I they must have been devastated to learn the results of the tests.  The good news, is that things have changed in eleven years, and there are lots more new and successful treatments that are available now.

Good that Miss Emily came to visit you, and brought her SO, as well as a casserole for dinner.  Had you met him before, or was this the first time?
I didn't realize that Mary Page's granddaughter owned a restaurant near you.  I love meat loaf, so that's what I'd order at LoKal, if ever I were fortunate  enough to visit OKC!

MarsGal - So sorry about Lucy.  I know she has had a lot of health issues lately, so guess it  was time for you to make that sad decision.  We've all been there with our beloved pets, and know how difficult it is.

Jean - Sixty-Six years for you and Larry this month, and the same number for AJ and me, coming up in October.  Remember many long years ago, when you and I and Maryc, all posted our wedding pictures here in S&F? (or maybe it was Senior Net)?  That was such fun, looking at those old photos from 1956.

CallieOK

Marilyne,

I'm not at all familiar with current cancer treatments but Mandi has been told that this one is "manageable" but she will have to take the chemo pill "for the rest of her life".  Time will tell, I guess.   I'm concerned with how many areas of her body are affected this time.

Yes, I had met Emily's S.O. but this was the first time I'd had a chance to visit with him without a bunch of people around.  He's really nice.

Mary Page's granddaughter's restaurant is in the area where Emily and her parents live - which is about a 30-40 minute drive from me but easy to get to.  If you ever get to OKC, we'll make sure to go there.  :)

Hubby and I would have our 64th anniversary on August 17th - but we only got to have 34. :(

MaryPage

MarsGal, it is so sad to lose a dear doggy who has shared your home.  Whenever I hear of this grief in the lives of others, I remember all the staunch-hearted pets I have had to say goodbye to over these many years.  We love them, but cannot come close to the devotion they have given us.

MarsGal

Thank you all for your kind words. Lucy is and will be missed for quite a while. Oscar and Shan seem a bit subdued this morning. Shan saw me come in with the empty carrier yesterday and gave me a questioning look, but I don't think Oscar fully realizes Lucy is no longer available to provide lap competition. It is hard to tell, though.

Tomorrow is the next Tall Ships Challenge event being held at Two Harbors, MN. At the moment, I see that Pride of Baltimore is anchored at Superior, not too far away. NAO Santa Maria is currently anchored at Grand Marais, MN which is also not far from Two Harbors. Inland Seas, Niagra and St. Lawrence 2 are making their way across Lake Superior. It is a shame that COVID has necessitated such a small showing this year. The time between the sponsored events, however, has given the ships time to visit other ports along the way.

The guys will be back this afternoon to finish installing the cabinets (almost there) and under-cabinet lighting, the countertop people will be here tomorrow, and Friday I believe the painter will be here to paint a primer coat on the walls. The guys have been doing little extras here and there, the latest being a door stop so that my kitchen door does not bang into the new cabinet behind it.

MaryPage

Just have to get this in here:

THREE CHEERS FOR THE PRIDE!
(which is what we call her.)
She is the 2nd of her name, you know.
Read all about her on line.
We love her to bits!

Good Thursday Morning Everyone!  Hope all is well, with all those who post here, and that we hear from some of our missing members today?

Mary Page - I didn't respond to your message yesterday, because I had no idea who you were referring to as "The Pride"?  Please fill us in as to who or what she is?

MarsGal - Did you have a chance to spend some time with your visiting sister?  I know you have to be at home for the remodeling, but  hope the three of you had a chance to go out for a couple of meals together?

Jenny - we haven't heard from you in a long time?  Have you and your brother decided if you are going to have a service of any kind for your Dad?  Also wondering how your San Francisco son and wife are doing this Summer in the fog-bound City?   Will your  Boston family be visiting with you this year?

Jean - Hoping to hear from you today, but we understand if you don't feel much like coming in.  We are all thinking about you, and wishing the best for you, and for Gigi too.

MaryPage

Oh, Marilyne!  When I read back, I understand that OF COURSE you didn't get the reference.  I would not have done, either

Read MarsGal's post just prior to mine.  She is talking about the Tall Ships, and she mentions The Pride of Baltimore.  You should start with my personal information:  I live in Maryland, Baltimore is our largest & best known city (the city I live in, Annapolis, is actually the Capitol of Maryland!), the Tall Ships come often to Annapolis, which, like Baltimore is a port city on the Chesapeake Bay, and The Pride of Baltimore was built and christened in Baltimore, but all Maryland residents feel an investment in it.  Baltimore is only 45 minutes away from my home here in Annapolis. So you see, I was responding to MarsGal and The Pride is The Pride of Baltimore, a beautiful Tall Ship and our very own.

Marilyne

Mary Page - right after I posted my comment to you,  I looked back again at yours from yesterday and I finally figured it out!   You mentioned "her" a few times, so I was thinking you were talking about a woman!  Then I remembered  that ships and all boats are always referred to as "she".  So I looked back at MarsGal's post and saw "The Pride of Baltimore"!    Yes, I'm a little slow these days, but given enough time, I usually figure things out!  ha ha

MaryPage

Me, too, Marilyne.  Me, too!

CallieOK

;D  The only "Pride" this land-locked lady could think of was the "Pride of Oklahoma", which is what the band at the University of Oklahoma is called.    Oh - and the college football team in Alabama.  :uglystupid2:

I am just beside myself.......I apologized for not posting.....telling that I keep coming in and trying to post only to be interrupted and loosing my posts.  I wrote a whole post.....even saved it.....looked back to see who else I wanted to comment to.....the hone rang....it as my brother.....I forgot to come back, and poof, my post is GONE.  I just attempted to see if it was still saved and it was not😡😩😩

I guess this gives you ALL a good indication of where my brain is these days😢😢

I am truly ILL.  BUT here I go again.

I went to see a cardiologist today.  She was very pleasant and gave me more positive things than negative, so that is good.  I still have a couple more tests to go through, then they will make their decision as to what they feel my issue is as to why I am requiring this supplemental oxygen.  She pretty much said that it is pointing more to my need for a CPAP machine than ever before.  I was hoping to avoid this as I really hoped I would not have to do this....but‼️

My dads memorial service is scheduled for the 18th of August. Even though we will not have that many at his service we have requested a Navy Honor Guard to be present.  My dad deserves this from his service during WW II and we are honored that he will have it.

MARILYN, thank you for the sweet comment on Baby Leon being my avatar.  We saw him last Saturday and he is growing much too quickly.  He is already 2 months old🤪🤪  Our SanFran Family are enjoying "Fogust", and will look forward to some sunshine when they come to CO for the memorial 🥰  Boston Family has been here for a month and we're due to leave next Tuesday, but we're able to delay so they could be here for the service🥰

CALLIE, I am so sad to read Mandi's cancer has returned😩 I will keep her and her family  my prayers. 🙏

It is getting late and I am paranoid about loosing this so I am going to say goodnight and try to get back tomorrow.

Pleasant dreams to all.
