Mary Page, I fully understand your depression over the state of our planet and what the human species has done, and is doing, to destroy it.  I always wanted to be "informed" but it seems that in this current time all that media informs us about are the bad things....war, racial hatred, apocalyptic weather, crime, etc.  The good news is just a few seconds tagged onto the end of all of the bad news. Much to my dismay, I have stopped wanting to be "informed" and have adopted an "ostrich" attitude.  I can't fix any of it therefore, I just ignore it.  And, often repeat to myself the Serenity Prayer.  I try to change the things that I can change...Accept the things I cannot change...and hope for the wisdom to know the difference.  Sometimes I actually succeed.

Thanks, Phyllis.  I completely & totally understand your situation, as it is now my own.  At almost ninety-four, I am no longer the active demonstrator for causes that I was in my younger days.  These days it is all I can do to bump along with my walker, and I never go out except to medical appointments. My concern about this one major foe worries me deeply, though; and I do realize I have to hope the great grands & their generation can fix it.  For me, these range from 29 year old Emily to 1 year old Cleo.  Many of the Climate Scientists say it is too late for fixes now, but my 6 year old Miles swears he will be able to.  Wish I could be around to see that!

Beverly

Shirley - You are not butting in! I appreciate your comments.

Patricia - You, too!

I've already considered all the things mentioned. This headache is different. Possibly caused by pinched nerves in the cervical spine. The pain travels from the left side to the right, is both stabbing and throbbing. I won't go into all the details, but it's quite debilitating. They're trying a medication that calms the nerves in my head and neck. Sitting here at the computer probably aggravates it!

Sandy - If I followed your low sodium diet, I'd be in serious trouble!  :)  I have low blood sodium because of my lung problems and need at least two sodium tablets a day, plus adding salt to my foods.

Enough about my problems. There hasn't been much posting here lately. Hoping to hear how everyone is doing.

Another beautiful day here so far. Our temps are dropping into the 30s the next few nights and we expect a cold and rainy week. After all, this is winter!  :)

Marilyne

Beverly, So sorry to see that you're suffering with such painful headaches.  I'm sure your doctor has mentioned the possibility of Cluster Headache syndrome?   Sounds like the same symptoms as my my dil's mother, who was finally diagnosed with CH.  If so, I know it's extremely debilitating, but can be treated with medication and often will go into remission for periods of time?

Facing another day here, of relentless rain, and wild wind.  I'm sure we will lose our electric power again, as the utility poles are so vulnerable to being blown down, when the ground becomes saturated.  Also  trees are being uprooted or breaking off huge branches that fall on the overhead wiring or onto houses and cars.  The people who live in the Santa Cruz mountain communities and coastal areas are being evacuated because of mudslides and floods.  I'm trying to remain calm, and grateful that we are not as bad off as others.  All we can do is to be prepared and hope that it doesn't last for long.

I know what you mean about being grateful about not being as bad off as others, Marilyne.  We spend just one enormous amount of time being thankful for that around these parts.

Beverly, do you have C.O.P.D., like me?  Or something else entirely?

My lungs and my heart make tough going these days.  However, they do have me OFF salt as much as possible.

Chip has been making lots of yummy salads.  I'll ask my doctor to look at my latest salt numbers when I visit her again in a couple of weeks.  I would welcome a bit more salt if possible.

We are still missing all of the storm activity.  I guess we'll get our turn eventually, but for now all is peaceful on Maryland's East Coast.

so_P_bubble

MaryPage, have you tried celery salt? That is what I used when I was off salt for a long period. It makes a good healthy substitute.

MarsGal

Beverly, I am sorry to hear that you are having such nasty headaches. I have spinal stenosis in C5-C6 which has probably progressed over the years. What I get is a more like a pressure headache that starts at the back of my neck and sometimes moves to the front. What bothers me the most about it is an occasional heavy pressure/weight feeling sometimes goes midway down my spine. Occasional tingling/numbness in my hands, mostly in cold, damp winter weather can be bothersome if driving or when holding a book/e-reader for any length of time. More bothersome for me is the pain and stiffness in my lower back that I get if I am out doing yardwork for more than a half hour. Vacuuming is problematic, and heavy lifting out these days.

Sheepishly coming in to say HELLO.  The days just seem to be flying by and not a one of them do I not say "I must post today".  I read the posts and start my own, and somehow I never finish😩😩

My incision is now in view after the dressing started coming off yesterday.  It feels good to have it off and so far there has been no issue.  I will be seeing Dr. Dave today and he being a would care specialist will recover it if needed.  It itches like crazy, and to me that means healing‼️ I will see my surgeon this coming Friday.

We were busy this week checking out and purchasing a cruise for us to go on.  I am SO EXCITED‼️ We go in three weeks.....sailing from San Francisco to Hawaii and back to SF.  I have to admit I am a bit concerned about the awful weather pattern that the Pacific is currently under. I hope for all involved that this crazy rain will stop!

My best thoughts to ALL.

It looks like Marilyne is down again. Lots of rain in that area.

Rammel, I guess I am particularly dense.  Did I miss the punch line?   "It's the windmills".  What's the windmills?  The cause of weather being awful all over? Climate Change?

Tomereader1

I spent a lot more time than I should have today, deleting old folders/files from my computer.  It is just overloaded, and I never know when this darling  :smitten: machine will bite the dust.  It's still running Windows 7, and my mail folders are full of junk from 2017.  I've also deleted old mail from folk who are no longer with me, or no longer send emails.  Now if I could just get Patricia and JaneS to come down here and help me with my stacks of paper, I might have a decent looking computer armoire (maybe the doors would shut, lol).
Keep up the good work ladies, you too Rammel. I remember last year when I took everything off and pulled it away from the wall so I could organize the wires/cables and peripherals.  It looked so great for awhile.  Now just needs the paper stacks tended to.  Oh, well, I get so tired doing chores, grocery shopping that sorting and throwing get short shrift.
Pray for me to do better this year.

Tome, - It's just a comment. --- I have a theory about the windmills. So many of them affecting the weather. Has to do with my past science and physics teachers telling us we cannot create or destroy energy. But we can convert it. If we take all that energy out of the air/wind, how is it affecting the weather. If nothing else, slowing down the weather systems. - to what end result?

Rammel,  what do you think about the wind turbines that are "creating" electricity?  Western Oklahoma is full of them.

I've cleaned out the 2022 accordion file I keep monthly things in - mainly because I need somewhere to  put the January 2023 stuff that's starting to come in!  Should have taken Before and After pictures of my office.  ;)  I have a stack for tax prep and a big one for shredding.  That's next...if/when I find that Round Tuit.  ::)

Miss Emily has found a "Venue" and the wedding will be an evening outdoor ceremony in August. The bridal gown seems to be next on her list.

Jenny, glad you have the dressing off and hope Dr. Dave finds everything okay.  Not sure I'd want to be cruising to Hawaii right now.  Good Luck!

Bubble, never heard of celery salt being a substitute for regular salt.  How about garlic salt and onion salt?

Sir Carson is very allergic to - of all things - black pepper. It does terrible things to his digestive system.  He can eat other kinds of peppers but not the black seasoning.  Makes it almost impossible for him to eat out - which is very hard on a 25-year old.

That's it from this corner.

Enjoy your week, Everyfriend.

It's not creating electricity, it's converting energy from wind to electricity. So we gain the electricity, but at the cost of some wind force. At this point I know of no known  backing for my thoughts, but...  ( Remember, you heard it here first  ::)  ).  Then there are the birds that get whacked. I feel that it all might be affecting our weather patterns.

Rammel, you and I could probably sit and "discuss" the cause of climate change for hours.  I think that humans attach much too much importance to human activity and it's effect on the climate.  I think that we have this inflated opinion of how important we are to this planet/universe.  I tend to lean toward the cyclical but, I think that human practices don't help the situation either.  Perhaps our destruction of earth's resources only serve to accelerate normal climate change.

And, I doubt that this whole argument can ever be resolved but it is apparently in our nature to speculate and discuss.

That would probably be fun. I remember years ago when "the cause" was the Hair Spray people were using. Now that we have corrected that problem we still have the original situation. --- Now what? (It's the windmills).

Marilyne

A quick hello this morning.  We had a planned power shutoff this morning, to allow for repair of a fallen utility pole and wiring.  Had time to make a pot of coffee, and that was it for a a couple of hours.  Now back to normal (whatever that might be?),  for the rest of the day.  I'll return later after I clean up the kitchen and  do a few loads of washing and drying.

As for the Windmill question . . . I think they will prove to do more harm than good over the long haul.  We won't be around to see the results, but not looking good in different areas of the country.  Big controversy now in New Jersey, (offshore windmills) concerning the dead whales washing ashore, and in other areas where windmills are predicted to put an end to the fishing industry.

MarsGal

I can imagine how Windmills may harm whales since whales communicate acoustically. Some sources are saying it also affects their food sources. Right whales are especially vulnerable. There are so few of those left.

Marilyne

Went to LabCorp this morning for a fasting blood draw. It's a hassle getting there so early, but good to get it over with!  Now I can relax and enjoy my first cup of coffee.  :)

MarsGal - Yes, according to the articles I've read, the offshore wind turbines are controlled by sonar.  This confuses the whales and they lose their sense of direction, and head for shore.  Lots of articles and photos online about this problem.

CallieOK

Western Oklahoma is full of wind turbine "farms".  The turbines are HUGE but crops can be planted under them - unlike the oil/gas well sites.  I understand they're providing electricity for states farther east. Hadn't thought about the effects on whales. That's pitiful.

Personally, although technology may be contributing to the cause, I also think this old planet is making adjustments on its own just as it has in the distant past - such as the Ice Age.  People living at that time had to deal with that one and we're the ones dealing with this one.  C'est la vie.

Nothing new in my world to report on.
Onward and Upward.

MaryPage

Long before human beings rose up out of the mass of mammals to dominate this planet, the dinosaurs owned it.  We all know what happened to them.

I believe the Science that says we have poisoned the air we need for breathing with carbon dioxide and other things not conducive to life for our species.  We have poisoned the soils we used and over used for the growing of crops to eat.  Millions upon millions of us are starving as I type.  We have poisoned the waters we count upon to refresh our bodies, at the same time we have over-fished those waters to the extinction of thousands of species.  Not trusting in the knowledge & scholarship of those of us (I don't mean I own this knowledge) who make a lifetime study of these matters is, I believe, a huge mistake. Unfortunately, Money rules and the ultra-rich seem to think they can take it with them.

The loss of our worlds trees ( deforestation ) chopping down our trees is damaging...Trees are effective air filters, they improve air quality, trees give us oxygen to breathe, they remove excess carbon dioxide from our atmosphere and convert it into oxygen... Trees also provide habitat for our wildlife...Trees provide vital shade and shelter for humans and wildlife whether summer or winter....Trees have been shown to be useful as flood defences also... When situated near rivers and streams they massively reduce the amount of rainwater entering watercourses... In turn, this reduces the likeliness of rivers bursting their banks and flooding low-lying areas...
It is us humans who are damaging our world...leave our trees alone, some trees have been there for years and years, long before we were even born..
Just watch Dame Judy Dench ( My Passion For Trees ) youtube...

True, Jackie.  The cutting down of the great Amazon Rainforest has been an especially deadly blow to humankind.

Marilyne

Clear and cold here this morning, but there is supposed to be one more rain storm moving in tonight, and then a long stretch of dry weather ahead.   Hoping it will be long enough to start replacing the 40 feet of fencing that has to be done in the backyard. It was blown to the ground in those terrible winds, with much of it splintering and snapping off at the bottom.

Callie,  speaking of "wind" - those Turbine Farms are all over California too.  Some of them stretch over acres and acres of land,  - as far as the eye can see.    It's not a pretty sight!  :P
I've been meaning to mention Miss Emily's wedding plans.  I'm pleased that she has set a time and place, and it's only seven months away. Now the search for the perfect gown!

Jackie - I agree that the ruination of the Amazon Rain Forest was the tipping point in climate change.  I remember when that started happening, and how controversial it was.  There were all kinds of talks and conferences trying to convince Brazil/Argentina to stop, but they continued on.  :'(     I haven't yet watched the video by Judy Dench, on YouTube, but hope to watch it today.   I admire her so much, for doing the video.

MaryPage

A large article in yesterday's newspaper tells a nationwide story that especially points a light on Texas and says that states are profiting Big Time from monies earned by their permits for the use of wind farms.  It also states these huge windmills are far more profitable than the mines previously used, and that the land owners like them better.  Who knew!

Good morning friends in S&F.  When able, I just love reading the news in here and thinking of you all.  I do have off days or computer problems.
Beverley, whose photos I enjoy so often, I am sorry to hear you have not been well and hope something found to give you relief.
Mary line read of your dreadful weather and hope you are safe and well.
Denver, think you were once Darling Denver, your trip sounds great after all treatment you have had.
Rammell, never did talk to you but you have given much help to keep this
Place going.  Callie, do hope you are keeping well.  Your family growing up, and going in different directions.  Have known you a very long time, since I visited Oklahoma. Mary page, hang in there, keep going, even slowly, and reach that centuary.  I certainly have days not well and need to ring the bell in here, but a couple of days resting etc and back I come. Australia has had enough rain to supply the world and and the floods have been devastating.  I can never remember so many home being swept away and the sadness to families losing all.  Marilyne often think of our friend and of you.  Have read of dreadful weather in your part of the world.
I did have coven and have endured many lockdowns of this Aged Care but at present we are open so looking forward to seeing G/D and G/G/D tomorrow.
Hope I remembered all.  I sometimes do not believe that "100" hanging on my wall but other times I certainly feel it. Lol

junee

Vanilla Jackie how could I forget you you.  My letter from Our Queen is precious as I can remember when she was born, I was 4.  Bubble often read your wise messages and hope you are keeping better health.  Jackie you keep busy with your family and enjoy.......
