June D, I just posted a photo of our cat tree and some of the shelf that goes around two corners. There's a hidey-hole at the other end, and one of the cats occasionally sleeps there.

Good morning from the Interior! I am late again as after that very long sleep, I can't seem to get back to a routine.

Farrah, in continuing her unusual cat behavior, has settled in on the table to watch the winter flocks gyrate in the wind. Now, every other cat I've known, would "chitter" at the birds from a window. Farrah comes to attention, her short stocky body tenses and she will intermittently growl. When they get too close or perch on the balcony fence, she slinks off and peers out from my line of wooden steins on the window ledge about two feet off the floor. She has never meowed or made any usual cat sound but she is definitely in her mind, at least, an alpha cat.

For all you golfers out there, this was an answer to a quiz, but you might enjoy the  bit of trivia.

"  While on the moon, Alan Shepard used a Wilson six-iron head attached to a lunar sample scoop handle to hit two golf balls, becoming the first and only person to play golf on the moon. Only a handful of people in NASA knew of Shepard's plan when, after an extended excursion on the lunar surface, he pulled out the club, and dropped two balls on the moon. Despite thick gloves and a stiff spacesuit which forced him to swing the club with one hand, Shepard struck two golf balls; driving the second, as he jokingly put it, "miles and miles and miles." Since Shepard’s famous shot, no other astronaut has attempted to hit a ball off the moon."

I have more classwork, so I'll probably stop back later.

Larry.  I can't find where you posted you Sausage Muffin Recipe. Wan't to make them. If you tell me then I will Copy and Paste it over into the Forum here for Cooking. Will be easy for other to find.

angelface555

From Larry's original post;

"JeanneP, the sausage muffins are made with 1 pound of sausage fried and crumbled, 1 cup of cream, 1/2 cup of whey powder,  4 eggs, 1/2 Tsp pepper and 1/2 cup of grated cheddar and 1/2 cup of Parmesan cheese.  Everything is mixed together with the sausage added last. We have two silicone muffin tins and it makes just 12 muffins and they come right out of the pan.  If metal muffin pans are used be sure to grease the sides and bottom of the cups so these will stick. "

MarsGal

Angelface, neither one of my cats chitter either. Well, once I heard Oscar barely manage a little. They both tense up with ears forward and tails twitching, though. They like to watch the rabbits and chipmunks. Oscar will go from window to window to follow the progress of the little critters and any cat that wonders by.

Hi everyone on this beautiful 61 degree Sunday morning.  I will go to Sunday School and Church this morning and then stop at Firehouse Subs for our lunch to bring home.  They have a very good salad that Pat will have for lunch and I will get one of the subs.

Yesterday was a pretty quiet day as stayed home all day.  I did watch the Georgia/Tennessee football game and what an exciting ending with Georgia going ahead with 10 seconds to go and then Tennessee throwing into the end zone to their tallest player and he caught it for a touchdown as the clock ran out and Tennessee won the game.  This afternoon, after resting awhile, I plan on watching the Carolina versus the Atlanta Falcons pro-game, although will likely take a little nap during the game.  I will probably put on my headphones and listen to Don's radio program at the same time.  I will just do a little multi-tasking.

Mary Ann, it sounds like your board member has quite a job with all the landscape work involved.  However, the rocks are a good idea.  We had those in front of our house with a decorative border in front of them and it was easy to maintain.

MaryPage, your area sure is having the rain.  I wonder if this new hurricane will be giving you more rain as well as whether we might see some rain as well.

Sandy, thanks for the explanation of the "spider".  I have heard of the "crawler" and the "bot".  It doesn't sound like they are of the malware type.

Patricia, I had heard that story about Alan Shepard hitting the two golf balls on the moon.  Thanks for sharing the recipe with JeanneP.  I see I didn't specify to beat up the eggs first in the bowl and then add the other ingredients.  I doubt that is really a problem whether you do that first or in the process of mixing the entire recipe.  My wife loves these and they keep in the refrigerator for several days.  It makes a quick and easy breakfast for her.

MarsGal and Sasha, thanks for sharing the information on your cats.

Sunday morning - Dot and I did our usual going to church then OTB.  Our minister will leave in two weeks and then I have no idea what will go on.  I haven't heard that we have an interim minister but I do know the minister from a Spanish speaking church, one that we have helped financially, will take over preaching for three weeks.  It has not been a pleasant time, maybe because Dot and I have been close to our minister's wife.

Tom was gone when I got home, but he came home earlier than usual.  He  drives for Uber occasionally and did last night so I know he is tired.  He gets home in the wee small hours of the night/morning.

The sun is shining now and we probably will get into the low 70s today.

Mary Ann

JeanneP

Thanks Angel.  I will move that recipe over into the Cooking Forum then it will not be hard to find.  His wife must really like them as he makes so many. I will give them a try today. Put in the freezer.

Think I will cut the recipe in Half.  Wonder what I can use instead of the Whay Powder.  Isn't the the stuff taken for "Energy"  It just sells in large jars here for $19.99. To much to keep on hand. Afraid it may put weight on.  O.K for Pat.
JeanneP

JeanneP

Think I will leave the Whey powder out.
Could not find anything to replace it that sounded good to use.

Protein powders often contain “natural flavors.” This term conveniently eliminates the need to list unsavory additives on the ingredient list. “Natural flavors” can even mean forms of MSG and artificial sweeteners. MSG and other carcinogens tend to be formed during the processing of protein powder and end up in the final product. Further, Consumer Reports discovered that some popular protein powders and protein drinks contain significant amounts of heavy metals.
Poor quality whey protein

Whey protein is a product of cheese making. The milk used to produce whey protein powders is from confined, antibiotic-laden, grain-fed cows. Grabbing a container of protein powder at the supermarket doesn’t allow you control over the quality of ingredients.

While collagen and gelatin are pure protein, high-quality brands are carefully processed to be assimilable by the body.  These superfoods boast a whopping 7 grams of protein per tablespoon. Interestingly, the amino acid profile in gelatin is uniquely healthful. It contains a high percentage of glycine, an amino acid shown to improve sleep and may improve insulin sensitivity. Gelatin is also prized for improving digestion and soothing the digestive tract.

I only recommend gelatin from grassfed cows, which is Vital Proteins gelatin. My favorite way to eat gelatin is in my Tulsi Geleé. Vital Proteins collagen (in the blue jar) boasts the same amino acid profile and protein content as gelatin, and it dissolves instantly in hot or cold beverages.

Hi everyone.  It is going to be another beautiful day here in South Carolina.  It was in the 60's when I got up this morning and suppose to get to only 85 degrees later this afternoon.

Yesterday was the normal Sunday with one exception.  In the afternoon a couple of ladies from the church brought Pat one of the two beautiful bouquets of flowers from the morning service.  Our Sunday School class had purchased the flowers for Sunday's service.  It is a very large display and we have them sitting on our dining room table where Pat can see them from her easy chair.  The only thing on today's schedule is my noon meeting.  I plan on fixing hamburgers for dinner tonight with some sides of vegetables.  It will be an easy meal to prepare.

Mary Ann, it is always an uncertain time in our churches when a minister and family leave.  I hope you will soon get a new minister.  Does Tom like driving for Uber?  That service seems to have taken off big time all over the country.

JeanneP, my wife does really like the sausage muffins. I wonder if you couldn't use regular flour in place of the whey powder as both have about the same consistency.  However, we have never tried it.  Making half a recipe would be a good idea.  I make the full recipe as Pat will have them every other morning alternating with scrambled eggs.  She got the whey powder from GMC and it was quite expensive.  I noticed at COSTCO they have big containers of it that are quite a bit cheaper.  I never thought to research whey as knew it was a daily product.  I would think you would need to substitute something in place of it as it is what gives the batter a bit of firmness.  Pat is following a strict hypoglycemic diet and this is a recipe she found that is acceptable for the diet.

Good morning all. We are back from a wonderful visit in Vermont. Almost all our family made it to the reunion. Makes it nice for us as they are scattered all over New England. We decided to fly and only stay a week so we'll miss the best of the foliage season. Maybe next year!

Larry - The sausage muffins sound good. I printed the recipe and plan to try them.

Larry, Tom does enjoy driving for Uber.  Uber office contacts him by his phone and tells him where the passenger will be.  The passenger is billed via credit card so it is not necessary for the drivers to carry large amounts of money.  Tom does resent the number of young women riding who are drunk and he says there are many.  I know there are men drunks too, but it is the teen-aged girls that bother him.  One fare took him to Detroit, but most are in our area, some short drives, others are long.

I watched most of the Ryder Cup yesterday but turned it off before the end.  I really thought they would play longer, so that was my mistake.  It was interesting but I like the regular tours better.  It was strange seeing players I had rooted for on the "other" side.  Things will get back to normal soon.

With cooler weather, I had all of my shorts washed and will put them away.  If the weather is warmer now, I will wear pedal pushers.  Today will get up to the higher 60s and that is comfortable weather.

We bought Kendrick a bed and he has sniffed it but hasn't tried it out.  He is now lying on my bed among the washed clothes I must put away.

Good Morning, we have more rain and fog along with our morning frost today.

I've experienced a lot of flying and being driven in all those years of being a military dependent, (Often with a crying baby or irascible pet in hand); so its nice not to have those "hurry up and wait," experiences. And of course,  the take your shoes, watches, and belts off before lining up to take a flight anymore.

Hal, thank you for that link as the ladies posting in recipes had some questions, so I'll repost the link for you.

I've got so much to do today, and the body is sluggish, so I should set this coffee aside and get to it.......in a minute.

JeanneP

Larry. Yes I saw the Whey Powder at at Meijers yesterday. Was $24 on sale and a smaller one with only 14 oz in it at $14.  Now I didn't think a small amount you put in that recipe would make muffins Rise up. Arn't they very heavy with all that sausage , cheese and eggs in. Think maybe I will try them using same amount only of Self Raising Flour. Yours is a lot like the one on the Bisquick box for Sausage Ball other than you use the Whey Powder.
JeanneP

JeanneP

Got my answer...

Think you can cook recipes with whey protein like it's flour? Guess again. Learn the secrets!

Many fitness people who cook with whey protein powder think they can treat it the same way they do flour. Newsflash! You can't.

You have to always account for its particularity and cook it on its own terms. This is the case with most protein powders, but it's particularly critical to understand with whey. If you don't, the potential for failure looms large. Whatever you're making can turn out rubbery, "cardboard-y," extremely dry and, well, pretty much impossible to (pleasurably) consume!

Shirley, loved your post on FB.

Kendrick discovered he could lie in the bed and I found him there much of the evening.  I hope he will sleep there tonight.  He fits in it very nice.  Tom said he got a cheap bed because he didn't know of the cat would stay in it.  We still don't know, but he's taken the first step.

Mary Ann

angelface555

Its really hard to tell sometimes MaryAnn. I was lazy one evening and tossed my coat over the keyboard of my desktop I'm not using. Farrah discovered it, jumped four feet to investigate and with a bit of messing about, made herself at home. Later after I had put my coat away, she jumped back up and looked distinctly peeved that her "nest" was no longer there!

She had a bed, never used it, and so I gave it away. With the ring I purchased, she tends to play infrequently. However, I read an article saying in "Cats Magazine," that cats enjoyed and were healthier if they had to work for their food. I used to give her a three-ounce can of wet food every other day with dry between. Now I put her dry food in the tube and wait for her to discover it. It takes her awhile to get the food out of the small spaces.

MarsGal

Cats are all different, aren't they? Just like people. My previous cat didn't take to a food "toy" I go him. It would shot a ball containing cat food in it, and as it rolled away, it the food would drop out of the holes in the ball.

Lucy came with her own bed which she uses all winter. Just yesterday I saw she is back to using it as the weather changes. It is sitting in front of a steam heater. I had an old wool shirt/jacket that she loved. I finally had to toss it after it got just to frayed and threadbare. A few of my cats from years ago just loved (as does Lucy) afghans and lap blankets, especially if I was under them.

Oscar is high energy and wants a lot of attention. If I sit down he is immediately on my lap. He will jump down after a while, but if I get up for a minute or two, as soon as I sit back down he is on my lap. He generally takes the day shift, while Lucy commandeers my lap in the evening. If Oscar is on my lap and Lucy deems it is her shift, she will stare at him until he gets the message and gets down. My lap is rarel without a cat on it. They rarely share.

Hi everyone on this Tuesday morning here in the South.  The only thing on the calendar for today was to take Pat for an appointment to get her hair cut.  However, she is going to have to cancel it as she has a new very painful problem with her neck that appeared yesterday morning.  So now she is putting ice on her back and using another ice bag on her neck.

Beverly, it sounds like you have a wonder and full week in Vermont.  Glad you are home safe and sound.

Hal, thanks for the research.  I think we will probably stay with the whey powder but appreciate your research.  Pat has never used tofu in her cooking.  I did have a meat substitute years ago at a place in Florida and it wasn't bad as it takes on the flavors of the seasonings.

Mary Ann, I wondered how the Uber service works.  It is good that the driver doesn't have to deal with the money.  Glad that Kendrick finally tried out the new bed.  You know it had to be on his terms and not yours.  :)

JeanneP, the muffin pans I use make small muffins so haven't noticed them being heavy although they are dense.   Interesting info about cooking with whey powder.  As far as I know I won't be cooking anything else with the whey powder unless the recipe calls for it.

Patricia and MarsGal, interesting cat stories.

Mary Ann

Patricia and MarsGal, Kendrick does have a mind of his own.  He did not sleep in the new bed last night to the best of my knowledge.  He visited me several times, once staying a half hour, usually he stays five minutes.  At one time I saw him on his tower by the slider and at 3 am he was on a rug in the bathroom.  He is not a lap cat but he does roam around me, marking his territory even though he's marked it many times before.  Dot brought a montage picture this morning and he was a very good boy - he did not try to scoot out the front door.  He probably realizes the weather is getting cooler.I'm getting new hearing aids this afternoon.  The old ones are over three years old and should be replaced.

Good morning from another fresh but sunshiny day in the Interior.  I didn't get to sleep until after five am today and slept until nine thirty-five so it will be a slow day.

Farrah is agile, quick and adventurous where Sarah was a lap cat and a snuggler. Sarah never got over her fears of the "Outside," especially hawks or owls. If they perched on a balcony railing, she was in the bathtub quickly.

She never really warmed up to women besides me but loved the men. Her body was small, but her hair was long and silky. Her tail had been cut off jagged so she never jumped anywhere but would come to be picked up. She was my shadow.

Farrah is at least four years younger than Sarah was. She is short haired and a stocky build and is not a snuggler. But she likes you to "knuckle" her head. And while she spent more time battling her fears, she seems now to be a normal cat even if she doesn't "talk" like one. She like Sarah doesn't want to go outdoors. She patrols the house at night and will sleep or nap here or there. She has never been on my lap and cries if you pick her up.

I used to have two cats who spent 20 years together. Peter had a specific place to sleep and if Beijing was in his spot, he simply laid on top of him until Beijing got the message and moved.

Hi everyone on an overcast morning.  Our schools in our County and County Government offices are closed through Friday although it appears our area will only get some rain and some wind but nothing like the coast line will be getting.  One of the big high schools in Aiken, South Carolina is a designated Shelter Area and other schools will be opened if needed for those 1.4 million people expected to leave the coast area.

This morning I plan on going to COSTCO and to do the washing. This evening I will have dinner at the church with Scott.  We haven't seen him for two weeks so certainly looking forward to spending some time with him. Pat's neck is really giving her fits and it is so painful she can hardly have anything touch it.  She tried to sleep in the bed last night but after 30 minutes had to get up and spend the night in her easy chair.

Joy

Good morning.

Larry,  my grand daughter lives in Pawleys Island and is about 2 miles from the beach.  They have been issued mandatory evacuation starting later this afternoon.  One weather site that I read was suggesting people go at least 100 miles inland.  It also said that they are more concerned with the storm surge rather than the wind. She is in an older mobile home and I am concerned about the stability of it.  They are in the process of getting it ready to sell as they are moving to Connecticut.  Sure hope they will have something left to sell LOL

All the schools and government buildings are closed for the rest of the week.  Really sounds scary.

Prayers go out to all in the path of this current storm.

I am sure you will enjoy your dinner tonight with your son.  Will you get to bring a dinner home for Pat?

Have a good day.

Good afternoon, Another cloudy day, its one week to day, that we have not had the sun shine all day. Now we may have a stormy Sunday, of course that is the day of our big country fair, they even close off all of main street and the whole length of the river front. If the storm stays off shore, the ocean and tides will be bad,

Joy, I hope your g.daughter  gets away from there, but also pray no damage to her home.  I also live in a mobile home, we are about 3 blocks from the river.
Prays are with our friends along the coast. Johann thinking of you.

Good morning from another beautiful sunshiny day in the Interior! Autumn has certainly been nicer here so far than our entire soggy summer! I voted yesterday in our city and borough elections, mainly choosing bonds and wording of regulations, but that is finished till the November elections.

Farrah amazed me on the past couple of days. I had put her food in the toy ring so she would have to figure a way to get the dry kibble. It has a tennis sized yellow plastic ball in it along with five large openings along the top and a smaller open groove running on the lower inner side, Yesterday, she would put her paw inside and try to scoop up the kibble. Sometimes, it would end up falling out of the lower grooves onto the carpet.

Today, she lay down and peered through an opening at the slots, noting where the kibble was I assume. Then she put her paw in, and shunted the kibble towards the smaller inner set of grooves.

She then went on the inside and easily scooped them out onto the carpet to eat. If I hadn't seen this, I don't know if I would have believed it, she is certainly observant and puts those observations to use!

I certainly hope there is minor damage if any from the hurricane, but these storms of late all seem worse than they used to be. I hope all are and stay safe!

We do not have blizzards here because we have so little humidity.  I can see where they would be scary as you see photos of snow up to the roofline. The last three years, we've seen very little snow and have been relatively free of cold temperatures.

I've been in three forest fires, one flood and an untold number of earthquakes. I was also in Anchorage, almost sucked off a short outside hallway of a building during 100 miles an hour winds. All were bad. However, me a hurricane would be so much worse!

halkel

Angle, most people don't realize how many storms of hurricane force that Alaska experiences during the winter months.  At Cape Newenham we had one where winds reached 140 Miles Per Hour, but 60+ winds were very common in the winter. We had metal window-shades throughout our site and used them quite frequently.  Had one window blow out in our little movie theater while we were watching a movie.  No biggie, supply was just down the hall, went down there and got a sheet of plywood and nailed it over the opening and resumed watching the movie.

Weather was, to me, a spectator sport while on site, some of the things that can and did happen were unbelievable.

angelface555

Hal, Alaska's eastern coast is known for its bad storms and the Bering Sea for its  severe storms. It is one of the deadliest areas in which to commercial fish because of those storms and a high number of deaths overall. I don't know if a hurricane is the proper sea or land term up north. Perhaps cyclone? Who knows?

We in the Interior are lucky to be sheltered by four sets of ridges and foothills and three surrounding mountain ranges.
