Larry - I enjoyed the incredible hummingbird video, and sent it on to others.  So nice that people have the patience to take on a task like that, and follow through for a whole year!  I hope the little guy will do okay if they release him?

Mary Ann - Looks like Dot, is going through the standard cataract routine.  All doctors seem to follow the same steps now, which is good, because it guarantees success.  My cataract surgery routine was exactly like Dot's, and my husband will be having his sometime this summer.

AJ went to Costco this morning, but I decided to  stay home and clean the bathrooms instead. ::) I've let them go for too long, and it will be a tedious job.  He will buy one of the Costco, ready to cook and eat casseroles, for dinner tonight.  This means I won't be going to the store today, which is a good thing.

Larry - I keep meaning to mention that I don't have, and never have had, a photo of myself in the "picture place", so I don't know who you saw that you thought was me? :-\  I have posted pictures in "Photos Old and New", over the years, and even entered a few pics in the photo challenges, but have never had one for my messages.

Mary Ann, hopefully we should be warming up in the next few weeks.

Mary Ann. that was pretty fast getting her eye done if you were home by 9:30am
On both mine I arrived at 6;30am and he had 8 to do that day. Operation was fast but i was not released until about 11:45am. same on the second eye.

I have had 7 Solicited calls on my home phone today. 2 this past 2 days on my mobile.  They don't seem to be able to take care of this  problem. Calling that phone number the Gov. gave no good.

I have one saying that I have stayed at one of their resorts in the past. I  usually hang up but just kept it running yesterday. Then said Yes, I did and I had Bed bugs when I came home. So I am going to post about it on Facebook. Maybe this will get rid of them.

We had bad news today; Terry has been admitted to Hospice.  He is the youngest of my three nephews and Tim, the oldest, died two years ago.  Tom is the only one left and he is much overweight.  Terry has not been in good health for many years and is on SSI so cannot hold a paying job.  He flew to California last month to meet his new grandson and was in the hospital for pneumonia and assorted troubles while there.  Then he flew back home and things have gone from bad to worse.  We don't know how long he'll last; it could be some time or it could be soon.  We were at their home yesterday and he could not come upstairs.  I did not go down to see him because I have trouble with stairs.  Tom doesn't even want me to go down our stairs; coming up is the worst.

Jeanne, do you have Caller ID?  I do and it costs me $10 a month.  If a number shows up that I do not recognize, I just don't answer the phone.  It saves a lot of wear and tear on my nerves.  One call I get twice a day is from area code 202 (DC).  There are four numbers and I looked up one of them.  The other three numbers were shown too and all listed as Scam.

Mary Ann - I'm so sorry to hear the bad news about Terry. He must be very depressed, and rightly so. I will be thinking about him, and hoping for the best.

larryhanna

Hi everyone.  It is a bright and sunny morning here and headed up to about 85 degrees this afternoon.  I have a full morning planned as need to stop at the bank for some cash.  Then will pick up my friend who lives just up the street from the bank and we will go to coffee.  I will bring him home and then stop at the barbershop in the Walmart Shopping Center as really need a haircut.  Finally, will go on over to the Walmart to pick up two prescriptions and get a couple of other items.  I will come home and have lunch and then will take it easy for the rest of the day.

Mary Ann, going to Jan's for your Wednesday get together should be of assistance to her.  Nice of you to go and stay with Dot while she had the cataract surgery.  I remember when Pat had that surgery it didn't take long.  I know I am going to have to have it done before too long as am definitely noticing its effects on my vision being a bit blurred and having difficulty reading the street signs until I get very close to them.  It sounds like your town is beautiful now with the blooming trees.  So sorry to read that Terry has now been admitted to Hospice.  Hopefully that will take a bit of the strain off of Jan as surely other Hospice workers will come to help him as needed.

Joan, sounds like it is warming up nicely there.  Glad you and others enjoyed the video as it is quite unique.  Having to feed the bird every 15 minutes during the daylight hours almost seems impossible.  He certainly was dedicated.

Marilyne, I wondered if the bird would survive on his own in the wild.  That dog was pretty remarkable also and guess was repaying having been rescued by the man by helping rescue the bird.  My wife and granddaughter went to Costco yesterday and I didn't have to go, which was a treat.  My wife brought home a rotisserie chicken.  On the way home they stopped at the local produce market and got fresh strawberries and sweet corn.  We haven't tried the casseroles as Pat was trying to follow a strict diet.  However, that seems to be going by the way so maybe we can try them a little latter.  I think I was seeing FlaJean's picture but had a mental slip and associated it with you.  Sorry but just another of those senior moments that seem to be occurring much too often anymore.

JeanneP, sounds like you are being bombarded with those robo scam call.  Hope your comment about the bed bugs helps but it is doubtful.

Mary Ann

Erin, Terry's daughter, was calling the family to let us know about Terry.  She said he is accepting it well.  Of course, he could last some time, or maybe not.  Jan is a Hospice nurse but I'm sure others will take care of Terry.

I don't know the reason, other than she's a good daughter and great-niece, but Annie stopped by yesterday with a new toy for the cat, cat litter, strawberries and sponge short cakes.  I'll have some strawberries and short cake for my breakfast.  The other day Tom and I went to the re-opened (from a fire last fall) produce market and I bought two green bananas.  The next day I discovered Tom had bought bananas at the grocery store, so we have bananas coming out of our ears.  I may have a banana for lunch.

We have been having storms all morning and just now the rain came down hard so I could hear it.  Tom is out driving and he loves to drive in bad weather and thinks he might make more money then as other drivers might not be so willing to drive then.  He should be home soon to work on his day job.

Thanks for your thoughts about Terry.

Mary Ann

Mary Ann

Oh, my goodness, I am the last person to post and that was at 9:01 am.  It is now 8:11 pm, nearly 12 hours later.

Tom worked hard and at 6 pm didn't feel like fixing food, so we went out to eat.  We went to Bud & Stanley's (named after the owner's dogs) and I think we got the last table available.  It was very noisy, being a sport bar.  There is carpet on the floor but everything else is solid surface with nothing to deaden the sound.  I had put in my hearing aids and they have a sharp sound for anything and tonight was terrible.  I finally took them out and that helped a bit, but was not a cure.  Tom had a steak and I had tilapia and both of us enjoyed our meals; we just couldn't talk to each other.

Dot called this morning and said the doctor told her she is doing fine.  She goes back next week for a second check, then she can drive for a few days before she has the second eye done.  Her daughter and SIL will take care of the transportation for the second eye.

Mary Ann, things are pretty quiet over the whole Sr. group. Maybe we all have Spring fever. I know all I want to do is sleep. Norm would be so proud of you how you keep things active and interesting.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Mary Ann

June, Norm always told me I "talked too much", gave too much information.  But I think I have started some interesting conversations just by mentioning something that happened to me at one time or another.  I can't manage this folder like he did, but I can talk!

I like the posts where others tell what is happening in their lives.  I post mostly here and in the Soda Shoppe, but I do put my 2c worth in a few others occasionally.

By the way, if some of you haven't seen the pictures Don/Radioman posted in Photos Now & Then, go there.  Don has posted a great picture of Bubble, but it is Passover time and he posted some pictures of their activities and foods.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Mary Ann - I think you're doing a great job as acting discussion leader, here in Norm's B & T!  I don't think you talk too much or give too much information!  Yes, you have started some interesting conversations that have started people talking, and kept things moving in here.

It has been extremely quiet all over S&F in recent weeks. Although I don't post in Soda Shoppe, I do read it every day, and I was also happy to see the recent message from Joan.  I'm hoping she will soon be strong enough to return, and that she will spark some renewed enthusiasm in Soda Shoppe, that will spread throughout S&F!

larryhanna

Hi everyone.  It looks like we will be getting up to 87 degrees this afternoon with only a slight chance of rain.  Today is the day for the housekeeper to be here and then we plan on going out to eat in the late afternoon for our main meal and as far as I know there is nothing else on the calendar for today. I do have to contact my cable provider (Comcast) this morning as my special pricing ends on the 24th for my internet service.  I learned the other day that my bill will likely be increasing $20/month even with their best plan unless something has changed in the last couple of weeks. I also need to check with Dish as my two-year contract with them has expired or will in a few days.

Mary Ann, it sounds like Annie has matured a lot and is taking her responsibilities with the cat seriously.  Hope you enjoy the strawberries.  Pat usually has strawberries almost every morning unless she has some cantaloupe in the refrigerator.  I think many eating places are designed to be create a lot of noise.  Glad to read that Dot is doing well.

June, I have also noted that there are fewer postings in the discussions than normal.

Mary Ann, you don't give too much information and I always enjoy your postings.  Most of our lives involve certain routines and not unusual things and these discussions are about just our normal activities with something different occasionally.

Marilyne, I see we agree on Mary Ann's contribution here in the discussion.  I post in three discussion daily but don't try to write three different things so my postings are alike in each unless sometime has passed and things I have written about have changed.  Some of the discussions have the same posters but I think there are some who don't post or read in the three that I do.  I don't want to lose touch with any of the folks in any of the three discussions.

Mary Ann

Marilyne, someone suggested that S&F members have gone to Facebook.  Norm was on Facebook to keep up with his family.  I get much of my family info second hand, but that's OK with me.  Tom is on Facebook and if there is anything interesting, he e-mails it to me.  Both James and Annie, his kids, are on it.  James is the one whose wife had the twins.

Actually, Jeanne Lee is in charge of this folder and I'm happy she has it.  She does a good job of monitoring but I think none of us try to put in anything offensive.

Tom is at a meeting and will return around 11 am.  I have an eye doctor appointment at 11:15 and she is a block away.  I have trouble reading the fine print on the computer and it is bad when I try to read the news.

Today is Trash/Recycle day and Tom left without putting out the recycle stuff.  I'm not dressed yet, not ready to get dressed yet (!) so we will have no recycle stuff today.  They do recycle every other week.  The regular trash is picked up about 12:30 so I can manage that.

Larry, I read you in the Soda Shoppe as well as here.  I have learned to skip the first paragraph when I see it the second time, but you do vary the rest of your post to fit the folder.  It works for me!

Mary Ann

Jeanne Lee

Basically, things get pretty much along o their own in here without any problems.  I do check often and post a little somethig now and then, but I can't recall there ever being any problems.  Keep up the good work.

Mary Ann I always enjoy your post and what's happening in your life.  Let's face it, none of us have, what you might call, a super fantastic lifestyle.  Just plain old us and everyday living.  Which is interesting to me.  I always am surprised at how much alike we all are in so many ways even though separated by many miles and even culture.
I might add I always was surprised at how people around the world were so much alike, well maybe no all.

So don't worry just keep those post coming.

Hal, I never knew I led such an interesting life until people started commenting about it.  All I do is sit in a chair most of the time, but I do get out occasionally.  If my chair was near the window, I'd watch the world go by.

I did have my eyes checked this morning and I was afraid glaucoma and Mac D were creeping up on me, but there is very little change from my last visit.  What I have to do is Control + to increase the font size and that will help.  I can make my own posts bold, but I don't know how to make other posts bold, but I will get along OK with increased font.

It may not be easy being green, but it isn't easy being 90+ either.  I really am feeling quite well for my age.  I won't run any races with Junee, Gloria D or June but that's OK with me.

It's breezy at Grand Haven and I saw a kite/skier on the lake.  It's only in the 40s here but I imagine the skier is wearing a wet suit.

I'm not a big poster or talker, but I sure enjoy this forum.  My husband and three grown children are big conversationalists so someone has to be a listener and that's me. 😀
Ordinary life is comforting, especially when you hear and read what life is like for so many.  I feel very thankful.

Mary Ann

Jean, I'm with you - a listener.  I will say if I am with one or two people, I might monopolize the conversation, but even with four or more, I sit back and listen to what others say.  Some times it pays off because I learn things I would not learn if I had to ask questions.

My memory is kind of funny, anyway, I say I don't remember anything important, but I remember trivia and some times that comes in handy; I come up with an answer because of listening.

MaryAnn, I was going to post about a toy for Kendrick, but my heart's with you all and Terry. More later.

Thank you, Sasha.  We don't know how long Terry has; he could last quite a while, or he could go suddenly.  His wife, Jan, is a Hospice nurse, but she will not be the one(s) caring for him; of course she will when she is home.  I've written that Jan's folks both have Alzheimer's and they are also at home.  The two families bought a big house together and Jan's parents have the first floor and Terry and Jan have the lower, walk-out, level.

I am interested in what toy you have in mind for Kendrick.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Mary Ann & Jean - I'm much more "talkative" in S&F, than I am in person.  It seems I ramble on and on in here, but I've always been much more of a listener when I'm with a group of people.   It's just as well, because I've had a paralyzed vocal cord for the past six months, so my voice is very weak, and fades away after a couple of sentences.

We each have two vocal cords, and one of mine just decided to stop working. (last November) So the other one has to do all the work, and it tires quickly. My ENT doctor, said that it's quite common in older people. (Isn't everything? ha ha) Nothing much they can do, except try not to stress the remaining vocal word, and hope that someday the paralyzed one will start working again. ::)  It's tough when I have to be at a gathering of some sort, or anywhere, where you are expected to join in the conversation.

Think I can speak for the other 90 year olds (being the elder) but you certainly keep things going and can assure you there will not be any races!  You do a wonderful job as an Aunt and am sure the boys are proud of you.
I have great memories of my visit to Michigan and specially being at Grand Haven at sunset.
I "don't get around much anymore" but I do read in here as to what everyone is up to.
We are slowly moving into winter downunder and my first need on the agenda is to have that Flu shot but guess my Dr is busy but know one Thursday soon she will show up at my door.

Mary Ann

Junee, it's good to see your post.  Yes, we 90+ do have to take it easy on what we do.  I'm sorry to hear you are heading into winter.  We've had some nice warm weather but the last few days have been cooler; I doubt we hit 50 degrees today, however, the sun did come out in the late afternoon.

Marilyne, I have never heard of a paralyzed vocal cord.  I hope your "good" cord doesn't get too strained.

Mary Ann

larryhanna

Hi everyone.  It is another beautiful day that should reach into the upper 80's this afternoon.  When I got up this morning Pat had already gotten up and fixed her own breakfast by microwaving a couple of the sausage muffins, fixing her coffee and having a little bowl of fresh strawberries. So before I had breakfast I grated a pound of cheddar cheese and cleaned and cut up a big stock of celery.  I then had my breakfast and hope that in a little while I will feel up to fixing some coleslaw for our dinner tonight.  We have a rotisserie chicken in the refrigerator and some fresh ear corn so some coleslaw will make for a pretty good dinner tonight.  I don't plan on going anywhere today.  Yesterday evening we did go to Ruby Tuesday's and had a good dinner.

Mary Ann, I certainly don't anticipate anyone will read my same posting in the other folders.  Occasionally time has elapsed between the time I write my first posting and the one in the Soda Shoppe so it may vary just a bit.  Glad you got a positive report from your eye doctor on the glaucoma and Mac D situation.  I don't know of a way to make other folks posting bold unless you copy them and paste them into another program where you could bold them.  However, that would be quite a bit of work.

FlaJean, I always enjoy your postings.  To me it is not how much we write but just making the appearance so folks can keep up with each other.

Jeanne, thanks for all you do here and in the other discussions.  We have a great group of folks posting here.

Hal, I am with you in that it is great to have folks from other parts of the world join in and to see how much alike we all are.  We may phrase things a bit differently but otherwise we have a great deal in common.

Marilyne, I fear I am a pretty talkative person and seldom see a stranger.  This week sitting in the doctors office I struck up an interesting conversation with a lady sitting next to me with her husband.  We started to talk and she shared that she has a rare genetic condition and has to have weekly infusions that cost $18,000 per week.  (The per week isn't a typo.)  I about fell out of my chair.  Sorry to read that you have the paralyzed vocal cord and hope that one day it starts to work again.  I would be in a quandary if I couldn't talk although my voice lets weaker as I get more tired throughout the day.

Junee, the computer is great for taking those armchair tours when we can't do them physically.  Just this morning I saw pictures and read a bunch of very interesting facts about Antarctica such as 90% of the world's fresh water is in Antarctica. It is hard to think of others going into winter when we are in the 80's almost every day.

Junee, I agree with you dear, Mary Ann does a wonderful job of keeping us all informed and interested in what is going on in our cyber world. Life would be very dull if we didn't have a favorite spots to visit here. How cold does your winter get down there..is it similar to our winters in the mid-west ? Lots of snow, or just dustings ?

Larry, I look forward to your posting in both the Soda Shoppe and here in Bait and Tackle. Your posts are always an interesting and enjoyable read.

What ever happened to our MaryPage ? I always enjoy reading her reports from her beautiful area.

All is well in Stanton, CA. I live very near to Disneyland, so hear the fireworks go off every evening around 9:30..signaling closing time. It's sort of a friendly sound, like saying "all is well in the world". Nice to settle down for sleep.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Marilyne

Larry - Nice that you will start a conversation with someone in a doctor's office, or anywhere else.  I'm afraid that the art of casual, friendly conversation, is going the way of the dinosaur . . . thanks to our digital devices.  When I enter a doctor's waiting room now, everyone is busy looking down at their smart phones.  The same thing, while waiting in line to check out at the super market.  Shoppers are all staring down at their phones.  I've never been one of those talkers, who strikes up a conversation in line, but if someone started a conversation with me, I would always be pleased, and happy to pass the time.  At my local Safeway, here is a large elevator that transports shoppers to the basement parking garage. Used to be that people smiled, and indulged in a little small talk during the short ride, but now, the minute those elevator doors close . . . out come the cell phones! :(

Sasha

MaryAnn, I hope things are going reasonably well. I think it was Patricia who first suggested the little hollow ball that you put treats or kibble in, for Kendrick to chase and shake, and get his dinner out of it.

MarilynE, there was a kitten that Cree tried her best to play with, but this one turned out to be short of gray matter. For a while, there was a virtual parade of people coming up the driveway to return Cricket, who lacked personality, too. The third time, we gave up. Now we call her Toot, and she knows enough to find the food bowl, if we don't move it.
