Oldiesmann: Relevant links can be found in topics in the Homemaking, Food & Garden board. I'll see about moving them over to articles here when I get a chance.

Oldiesmann: Found them. They're on the CP site: https://www.christianphotographers.com/recipes/recipeindex.html

Oldiesmann: I'm not finding anything related to recipes on the site. I'll do some digging through the Internet Archive and see if I can dig them up. It's possible that got lost in the big server crash back in 2016

Patricia, Annie was told Kendrick was "part" Bengal, but after seeing the last video, I'd swear he is 100% Arabian Mau.  The cats that showed more striping than spots look just like him.  His ears stand up and the only difference I noticed in one cat was his/her eyes seemed more brown and Kendrick's are green or yellow.  I wish I were more able to play with him because he certainly needs it and wants it.  I think if I was able to devote 100% of my time with him, he'd be one very happy cat.  He seems to think that I am here for him alone!

Tom and I went to Subway for lunch, then stopped at a place where they sell and install window treatments.  The strip mall up the hill from us recently put very powerful lights at the back of the building and they light up our bedrooms like it is daylight.  Tom would like some room-darkening shades and since it is my house, I am willing to buy a shade for his room.  His room is beneath mine, so we get the same light exposure from the mall.

Bubble, we are in a dry climate so there usually isn't humidity if it gets hot. The closest I've been in Fairbanks, in regards your temperatures is 108 and you baked! I have been hotter in Arizona and New Mexico, but not in Fairbanks. My second mother in law never believed me or her son. She was totally convinced we, Alaskans all lived underground to escape the severe cold and ice and snow! However, she had never been out of the hills of Kentucky, and not past the fifth grade.

MaryAnn, I looked at the Arabian Mau. It looked like an interesting cat but Farrah, while sharing those ears, has nothing else in common. It looks to be a very interesting cat. I think Farrah might have some Bengal or something similar as she likes to jump and has done five feet horizontally often. With her not showing standard cat traits, it is a guessing game.

I am not sure how long it has been since I posted here but I rarely get to the computer anymore until after 9 PM when I am finished in the kitchen.  Things are going pretty well except that I just give out of energy before I give out of things to do!  It has been 2½ years now since Windell's accident and he was 88 three weeks ago and is functioning fairly well except for his hearing and vision.  He has very expensive hearing aids but has auditory nerve damage so he still has some difficulty hearing.  His glaucoma and macular degeneration have also gotten worse so he is having some vision problems also.

About four months ago he asked his ophthalmologist if it would be OK for him to drive.  The doctor smiled at him and told him that he had a really good chauffeur and he should just continue to use her!  (Me!)  His reaction times are so slow now and the traffic here is a little crazy sometimes.  Bless his heart - it has been very difficult for him to lose his independence but he is calming down a lot.  He gave up his license to practice law December 31st.  He's still pretty sharp mentally but reads and thinks much slower now.

The weeks fly by so fast now!  It's hard to believe we are halfway through 2017 already.  Someone said to me not long ago that life is like a roll of paper:  the closer you get to the end, the faster it goes!  ::)  The weather has been really warm here recently.  We had three days the end of last week with a heat index of 105°, even with a good seabreeze in the afternoons.

Our oldest grandchild, a granddaughter, graduated from Wofford College in Spartanburg in May and is going into an accelerated nursing program at the Medical University in Charleston in September.  Her younger brother will be sophomore at Wofford in the fall.  Our youngest granddaughter performs with a high school Shakespeare troupe in Pensacola, FL.  They did "As You Like It" this past spring in 1950s fashions with poodle skirts, etc.  (I thought that was really fascinating!)  She is performing with an adult troupe this summer in Shakespeare's "Merchant of Venice".  I have always loved the speech from that play about the quality of mercy blessing both him that gives it and he who receives it.

Mary Ann, DeAngel, and Angelface, I really enjoy your discussions of your cats.  I still miss having a warm furry body jump up by me on the sofa to be petted  :(  Mary Ann, we are also going to look at a window treatment for our sun room where we spend a lot of time, preferably a shade that lets light in but cuts the glare in the afternoons.

Had a problem with the car (2016 model) last week that really concerned me.  We stopped for groceries at a store about 1½ miles from our house last Monday afternoon and when we put the groceries in the car and I turned it on, I had a dashboard light that said to Service Power Steering Soon - Drive Very Carefully.  I backed up and when I tried to go forward it wouldn't move at all; I couldn't even turn the steering wheel.  Cut it off and back on and the same thing happened.  I called the local dealer but he didn't have anyone to tow me in since it was almost 5 o'clock.  We talked for a few minutes and he told me to try it again and that time it worked!  So we got home OK.  The next day was the 4th and we didn't go anywhere and I took it down the day after the 4th, sort of holding my breath since the dealership was 10 miles away.  I made it and they checked it and had to reprogram my power steering computer function.  It has worked fine since then but really made me wonder how many other computerized functions in these new cars could possibly malfunction!

Larry, congratulations on your wedding anniversary!  That's wonderful!  Glad you and Pat are still functioning reasonably well.  I know it means a lot to have your son close.  Windell is still going to cardiac rehab at the YMCA on Mon, Wed, and Fri and we eat lunch out those days after I pick him up.  Occasionally when I am really tired, we go out for dinner also.  There is a cafeteria about three miles from us and a Red Lobster about a mile away.

Joan, I'm so glad Candy got help and is OK.  That could have been scary when no one came to help.  Hope her vehicle has been fixed by now.

Hope all of you here have a wonderful summer!  Love you all, even though my visits are few and far between!  :smitten:

wjoan

Update:  vehicle is not fixed.  They sent the wrong part so another day gone by and another night at the hotel.  She is pretty mad about this but not much they can do.  They evidently get their parts from Sacto. in CA.  Long way to go for parts from Tonapah, NV

Mary Ann

Joan, how frustrating for Candy.

Johann, it's good to hear from you and hear you are in as good condition as you are.  I am sorry about Windell's vision and hearing problems.  I think I am on the edge of the same problems.  I sold my car a year ago and while I have a driver's license, I haven't driven in probably two years.  I am fortunate to have my nephew, Tom, living with me and he takes me wherever I need to go.

My cat was a nuisance last night.  My brain was working overtime so I did not sleep well - or at all? - and about a half dozen times in the night he came in to be petted.  I tried to ignore him a couple of times and it was funny when I opened my eyes to see where he was and there was that cat face nose-to-nose.

At 8:05 our temperature is nearing 70 degrees and I think it will go into the mid 80s today.  Radar shows no rain.

We're having a birthday party for Tom on Sunday; he will be 60 years old.  He is my middle nephew of three, but the other two have both died (at 58).  Tom's son is celebrating his 28th birthday today.  It hardly seems possible.

Hi everyone. We will have another day like yesterday, i.e. overcast with possibility of rain this afternoon.  We will get to around 90 degrees again today.

Yesterday we did get some nice rain.  I did get over to Costco yesterday morning and it was a great morning to go as it was relatively cool and there were few people there, which seems to be an oddity.  I did get one of their rotisserie chickens, which we will have for our dinner tonight. I have no definite plans for today and expect to stay home all day.

Mary Ann, like you I hope our wills and other papers will not require further changes.  Of course you are their for him alone.  :)  To bad that the mall lights are impacting on you.  We have street lights but our bedroom is at the back of the house as is our family room.  Only my office has windows looking out on the street.

Joan, glad you are a bit cooler today although it is still hot in the 90's.  I don't think we ever made it to 90 yesterday and just having it cloudy all day really helped to hold the temperature down.  I would be upset also if I were in Candy's situation.

Patricia, thanks for the comments on my granddaughter.  She and Scott love their dogs and they are a major part of their lives.  The year you got to 108 must be the year I visited Fairbanks on a job as I remember it being very, very hot.  Of course I was used to Anchorage weather conditions by that time.

Bubble, your weather sounds much like ours with the high humidity.  It is nice to be able to stay inside on such hot days.

Johann, what a delightful and newsy posting from you.  Windell is certainly fortunate to have you.  I know it must be hard on him having had to give up his driving but certainly best for all concerned.  Were you able to attend your granddaughter's graduation from Wofford?  My best friend's three children all graduated from Wofford.  Hopefully your car will run for years without a re-occurrence of the computer problem.

Mary Ann, Kendrick must have sensed that your were sleeping and knew it was a good time for a little extra attention.

wjoan

Since Mom is picking up the Hotel bill,  it is also frustrating to me.  LOL  Hopefully soon she can be on her way to her storage box.

Mary Ann

Larry, where we are is like a 90 degree angle and we are on the down side and the mall on the top side.  Both of our bedrooms are at the back of the unit on the pond and those strip mall buildings are also on the pond side, even though on the other street.  The new lights are at the backs of their building and I would say they've had problems at night, hence the lights.  Tom wants room darkening shades but for my room, I have honeycomb translucent shades.  We may settle for wood blinds in his room because they are much less expensive.  The lower level is lined in pecan wood paneling so the wood would (!) complement the paneling.  At present Tom has matchstick blinds and light comes in between the "matchsticks".

UPDATE:  Car part has not come yet.  :(

wjoan

UPDATE 2:  Candy called and gave them a piece of her mind.  The gal called the owner and he gave the crew a piece of his mind.  He made a call and had the part flown in at his expense and it should be there first thing in the morning.  About time someone did something.

SCFSue

wjoan, I was ready to post to tell you that you and Candy have my sympathy, but HURRAY!.
Good for Candy and the owner.  I am happy for her and for you, soon to have her home (?)--I'm not sure if she's been coming or going away.

Hi everyone. We start our day here sunny and clear skies.  It will be in the 90's this afternoon.  We had a very brief rain shower late yesterday afternoon.  I expect to stay home again today.  I will get things ready for a salad for our dinner with Scott and Jennifer.  They are going to fix the dinner for us.  Pat will go this morning to her crafts group at Church.

Yesterday afternoon after the rain stopped I checked the mailbox and as I left the house I saw this beautiful rainbow in the sky so took a picture of it.  Here is a link if you are interested.  This is looking up our street from my front porch:  https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipMtoDmq_kPQjtQT5v6EjFYHGjnPMev1lrcglUuY

Joan, it is interesting how parents seem to be there to pick up the bill. No wonder Candy and you are frustrated if the car part still hasn't come.  I see your further note that today will be the day so hope she is soon back on the road.

Mary Ann, you might check on Faus wood blinds as they are less expensive but very nice looking and resemble wood.  That is what is at all the windows in our house and we like them.  The house came with them installed in all of the windows of all of the houses in our development and they look very nice.

shirleyn

Joan, you mean Candy does not know if she is coming or going?   HaHa!  :-\

Marilyne, I have been meaning to ask you, you said you could text your kids on the computer - is it too difficult to explain here?

Larry, I have some windows I have to cover - those blinds you were telling Mary Ann about, how are they for cleaning?  Easy or do they have to be taken down to clean?

Hi to everyone!!   :hello:

shirleyn

Mary Ann

Larry, I would like to have seen your rainbow, but I don't have a Google password so I bypassed it.

Tom looked at Lowe's and found something suitable and he probably will order those blinds.  He and I have a different sense of value; this is my house and when/if it is sold, I want what is here to be quality.  That does not mean expensive.  Tom is more interested in saving money (because he doesn't have any) and I am more interested in convenience.  What is in the room now is a matchstick curtain and he likes the color but the light shines between the "sticks".  I have the same view and I have a translucent honeycomb shade.  I had him look at my shade last night and he could see that he does not really need room darkening shade but I will let him get what he wants.  As long as it looks nice.

We are in the midst of a storm now, but radar shows more storm both north and south of us - ours is mostly heavy rain with occasional thunder.

Too early to hear from Candy but  hopefully she will be on her way today.
.

Marilyne

Shirleyn - I'm not having any luck so far, with the texting from computer to iPhone, in spite of my granddaughters instructions. ??? I Googled for information, and there are a few sites that explain how to do it, but I can't make any sense out of them either?  I may check the computer forum here on S&F, and see if Rick, or anyone there knows how to do it.

joan - I hope that Candy is on her way to Santa Cruz by now?  It's beautiful over there today, and will be a total change of scenery from Tonapah!  I hope she can relax in SC for a few days, and enjoy the ocean air.

Larry - I'm wondering about your window blinds too?  Do you have any idea where they can be purchased?

wjoan

Marilyne, Candy has to get to Gardnerville first and tend to her storage items.  Then she can be on her way to Santa Cruz.  She will not be going to So. CA tho as her next destination is WA and her Mom.

June Drabek

W. Joan, and as another Mom, I can feel your eagerness to have her arrive there. Does she intend to end up in Santa Cruz ? That is where my son and his wife live. According to my Dan it is a pricey spot to buy a home, but a very lovely and scenic area. From the Ocean to the Mountains and in between, natural beauty.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

wjoan

DON'T EVER GET STUCK IN TONAPAH.

June, no.  She used to live in Santa Cruz, but is just dropping off the dog's bed.  Then she will head up this way IF  they ever get the part to fix her car

GOOD NEWS Candy got her temper up and made some phone calls on her own.  Come to find out it was the Napa Parts store Mgr. who had the part just sitting there.  He had forgot all about them.  They supposedly went out today.  She filed a personal complaint against the Mgr.  and feels pretty good now.  LOL  IMHO  The repair shop is the one that should have been following up on this tho.  Hopefully she can be on her way to Gardnerville, NV now.

Wish my brother still had his law practice.  $$$$$$

FlaJean

Marilyne, I sent you a message from my iPad through the iMessage and it seemed to go through.  So maybe that will help you get started on the texts.  If you get a message from ocalafellers--- that will be me.  You might see a 1 on the little blue bubble icon on your dock on the computer.  Click on that bubble

Marilyne

FlaJean - I received the message. :) I almost deleted it before opening, because it looked so strange.  It does not say "ocalafellers" anywhere?  the return address is a long string of numbers followed by @vzwpix.com
I sent a return message, but I probably did it wrong, because It looked like a regular email to me?

joan - We will all be relieved when Candy is finally far away from Tonapah!  What an ordeal this has been for her. :knuppel2:

wjoan

Marilyne, hopefully tomorrow.  They have not heard the last of her tho.  LOL

Hi everyone. We had a very rainy evening last night with a lot of lightning and thunder.  Today we are to be sunny all day with little to any chance of rain.  We had an enjoyable evening with Scott and Jennifer and Scott fixed his Taco Pie and I had put together the salad earlier in the day. Today I will pick up my friend and we will go to coffee.  After I take him home I plan on stopping at Walmart to pick up medicine for Pat.  I do not plan on attending the Wisdom group as just don't have the energy.  I expect the rest of the day to be quiet.

I should know better than link from my Google Photo Account.  I just put it up on my Facebook account so let's try this link:  https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10156388695259377&set=a.10150171369334377.354327.776879376&type=3

Mary Ann, I hope you can now see the picture with the above link.  If you can't just take my word for it that it was very pretty.  I understand Tom's hesitance to want to spend money but we usually get about what we pay for and spending a little more for quality (if you can afford it) usually pays off.  Hope you had no damage from the storm.

Marilyne, I am sure they would be available through Home Depot or Lowe's.  I wish I could help with the texting via computer and know you can do it but only use my iPhone for texting so have no experience doing it on the computer.

Joan, after her experience with car troubles on her trips maybe she will decide to stay in the area where you live.  I bet you would like to have her nearby again.  As I recall she had trouble with her car on her trip out to Arkansas.

shirleyn

Good morning guys & gals!  I am packing and off again for a week.  But this time we are flying up to Buffalo.  Danny's daughter lives there & just bought a new house & daddy has to check it out.   So, will see you all next week.

shirleyn

larryhanna

Shirley, relax and have a good trip.  Good time of the year to go to Buffalo.  :)

Larry, I'll have to take your word for it that it was a pretty scene.  I am not on Facebook either and they want me to either log in or join.

It is a very muggy morning here and the air didn't go on until about 10:15 am.  While that is much earlier than I want it to go on, I am ready.  I feel with my A-fib that the humidity bothers me more than it used to.  And maybe age helps it along.

As far as I know, there is nothing planned for today.  I've had two phone calls so far this morning that were unknown to me, so I didn't answer them.  I wasn't able to write down the numbers which I sometimes do, so I couldn't check to see if they were scams - which they so often are.  I'd be answering scam calls all day long if I didn't have Caller ID.

Larry, I gave Tom the go-ahead to order the blinds he saw at Lowe's.  I haven't seen them but I do trust Tom.  He's been putting a blanket over the window the last two nights and said he has slept well.  I've ordered from Lowe's and have been pleased with the results.

Shirley, have a good flight to Buffalo - yes, daddy must check the purchase!

It's a hot job but our mowers are at it this morning.  It's "only" 74 degrees out, but I imagine the humidity is near 100%.

The Katmai Bear Cam is now live and there are salmon leaping over the falls, bears fishing, eating,  and in one cam, a ranger is answering questions and giving out information about the bears and the park.
