Bubble sent me this and what an amazing idea, inserting film clips into DNA. What if it could record the inner workings of a disease for your doctors?

Patricia, thanks for fixing Larry's photo.  That is a spectacular view and it is nice to see Larry's neighborhood, too.

I could watch the bear cams all day, or nearly so.

It is 85 degrees here now and that is too warm for me.  At least it is cool inside and i am very comfortable.

Mary Ann

MarsGal

Thanks for the clip Angel. Sometimes cutting-edge science is just as strange as science fiction. In fact, I won't be surprised if some scifi writers have already incorporated this into their writings somewhere.

wjoan

OK, Candy has checked out of the Motel earlier this morning and her car has just been released so she is on her way to Gardnerville, NV.  Told her I did not want to hear from her for a week.  LOL  You have no idea what I had to do to get them to accept my CC.

junee

Angel-  that Cam is just wonderful to watch.  The Bear is doing well with his food.  Thank you

JohanneMC. I loved reading your long posting today. I know it has been a while since you posted. So many people are missing now. Lots seem to want to be on Facebook.
I know I have really stopped Emailing as people want to just either Text of FB.

I have now gone to writing my long letters and Using the Snail Mail. Like you did here,  you can write so much . I have now gotten a few friend writing back to me that way. I always loved writing letters and really do enjoying getting them back. Most are to and from overseas.

Like your husband. We all hate to think of the time when we will have to give up driving. Good that you can take the wheel now. I know men hate to ride with women driving but more seem to be doing it.
JeanneP

Marilyne

Patricia - Thanks for posting the link to the Bear Cam.  I love watching it, and like Mary Ann said, I could just sit here staring at it all day long!

joan - At last, at last!  Candy has finally broken out of solitary confinement in Tonapah Prison! ;D

JeanneP - you mentioned in another folder, that you were planning to take a vacation back to your home in the UK this Fall??  Are you going alone, or will one of your daughters go with you.

Mary Ann -  I need new blinds or shades of some kind in the bedroom.  Not so much for the light, but something that will help keep the heat down on these hot summer days. Right now I have honeycomb blinds, plus standard pinch pleat drapes on the two windows.  The blind on the S/W facing window has started to deteriorate, and has gotten very "crisp"!  I'm afraid if I try to raise or lower it, that it will go to pieces, so I'm thinking maybe the kind you're getting will be sturdier and maybe keep out more sun. I guess we'll be going to Home Depot and Lowe's to take a look.

angelface555

Thanks for all your cam comments! I think the Southeast where the park is located has been having better weather than us! We had steady rain all day until about six PM. It is now 8:36 PM and there is a single boar at the waterfall and a female and three cubs at the lower rapids. I believe we are three to four hours behind most of you and two hours behind the west coast.

LOL  yep.  Funny thing the mechanic wanted her to stick around, to go out with him.  LOL  She said he was very good looking, but not enough for her stick in that little town.

Hi everyone. It looks like we are headed to a 95 degree sunny day.  I got up early this morning and headed to the lab to get blood drawn in preparation for a routine visit to the GP a week from today.  I knew I needed to do it fasting so wanted to go early and was back home by 8:30.  The housekeeper should be here this morning.  We plan on going out to eat today for our main meal as we often do the day the house is cleaned.  We haven't been out to eat all week.

I had planned to meet a group of men friends, from where I had lived, in Greensboro, Georgia today.  I realized yesterday that I just am not feeling like making a 2 1/2 hour round trip as have been very weary all week.  So yesterday I called and cancelled out for now.  So other than eating out later today I plan on a quiet and restful day.

Mary Ann, I just sent you an email with the rainbow picture.  I am not much of a photographer but fortunately my iPhone takes very good pictures.  I always feel if someone really needs to talk with me and I with them they will leave a message.  I usually won't answer a call where the name doesn't show on my phone although will answer local numbers.  Hope you can get the blind put up soon and that it works well for Tom.  I emailed you the picture before I saw the link Patricia had posted.

MarsGal, what seemed impossible a few years ago is coming to pass like driverless cars, face to face phone conversations, joint replacements and many, many other things.

Joan, glad that Candy's car was finally fixed yesterday.  The last time I had car trouble on the road the place that fixed the starter didn't accept credit cards and I didn't have enough cash to pay for their labor costs.  I finally convinced them to accept my check although they really didn't want to do so.  I thought I was going to have to leave Pat waiting at the garage as collateral  while I went to an ATM and got more cash but fortunately wasn't necessary.

Patricia, thanks for bailing me out on the photo.  I knew I should have put it in the Gallery and will try to remember to do so in the future.  That is a very frightening quote at the end of your posting about doctor's in the business mainly for the profits.  I checked out the cam and a bear was walking in the righer below the falls but didn't see him find any asalmon that he ws looking for.  I did see salmon trying to jump up the falls.

JeanneP, I do text with a couple of friends but will usually email.  I don't think people would enjoy getting snail mail letters from me as I don't have good handwriting.  I much prefer to type and know that it will be readable. When we ride with someone else after having driven for years and years I think we get nervous because we know we have no control.  My wife and son are good drivers but I still get a bit nervous when I am just a passenger.

Marilyne, in the house we moved from had the two front bedrooms that faced the sun in the mornings and would get very hot.  I learned of screens that would block out a lot of the heat and the rooms became much more comfortable.  They were black.  I could see out but others from the street couldn't see in very well.

Mary Ann

Larry, thank you for the rainbow picture both here and in my e-mail.  I love the looks of your neighborhood and the rainbow sets it off.

Already today I've had two unknown phone calls.  I do the same as you - I don't answer if I don't recognize the name or number, knowing if it is important, someone will leave a message.  I don't answer local calls without a name or when I do not know the number.

Patricia, that is very interesting about the Lincoln photographs.  Even Brady recognized what had to be done - and he did it.

We are having a cloudy day and when I went after the mail, I felt it was drizzling a very little bit; not enough for me to get wet, but I did feel a few little drops.  Our temperature is 72 and may stay at that today but the rest of the week will be higher.  I noticed Sunday should have a storm in the morning, but clear up in the afternoon.  Our party for Tom starts at 5 pm.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

joan - Just think, if Candy liked the mechanic, she could settle down, and call Tonapah, her new home!  I've been there, so I know that's not likely to happen! LOL.  Funny thing, my uncle, (my mother's brother), had a service station and garage in Tonapah, in the 1930's. Maybe it's the same building, as I know that that town hasn't changed much at all since the '30's.  Most of the towns in NV, still look like they did 100 years ago. (Reno and Las Vegas being the exceptions.)

wjoan

Marilyne, bite yourtongue..  LOL

Hi everyone. We have a sunny and clear sky again this morning but see a good chance for some rain later this afternoon and a high of around 95.

I hope to attend a meeting at 10:30 this morning, depending on my energy level at the time, and then spend the rest of the day inside where it is cool and later this afternoon plan on watching the golf match from the comfort of my easychair.   We did go to Pizza Hut for our main meal yesterday.  We got there around 3 pm and lingered until 4:30 when our son starts work there so we could say hello to him and get & give hugs.  Our granddaughter had brought him to work so she came inside and we also got to talk with her and give and get more hugs. It made our day.

Thank you all for the nice comments on the rainbow picture and now you know what the neighborhood I live in looks like.

Patricia, the checked the bear cam this morning and it appeared to be rainy at the falls.  The salmon were still active but I saw no bears today.

Mary Ann, it sounds like the weather should be fine for the B/D party.

Lloyd, you and Jane are fortunate to have access to the Amish stores where you can get things for a reduced price.

June, it is pleasant to sing or hear Patriotic songs.  The way our country is going one has to wonder how long before those are attacked and banned in various settings.

Jenny, I hope Brian's offer on the house is accepted.  I wonder how some of the houses can be appraised for higher values that would justify such increases in price over the asking price.  I suppose if the buyer has enough cash it isn't a problem.  Believe me if you are happy with your home avoid moving.  It is a huge job.  If you have a basement in your home and the stairs are becoming a problem consider having a stair lift put in.  They certainly cost less than moving and work very well.  That was a necessity when we bought this home and we haven't regretted the having the stair lift put in.  Hope you got some rain last evening.

Jane, glad you were able to pick up an extra shift today to offset your normal Tuesday work.  You are wise to take a day to recover.  I bet your supervisor was happy to have you help her out with the staffing. A friend in our Sunday School class give us a nice big sack of tomatoes and cucumbers that she had grown in her garden.  Pat said the tomatoes had the flavor they should compared to the store purchased one.

Amy, are the road washouts on routes you need to get to the city?  Are the strawberries locally grown.

Good morning from another foggy Interior. We're at 67 officially and 72 degrees on my north facing balcony. The high today on an expected cloudy day is to again be 82. Yesterday it rained steadily until sometime after three when the sun came out and it quickly got sticky. The highs have been in the low eighties regardless.

Farrah and I both had a surprise this morning. She likes to sit on the toilet and watch me through the shower curtain. I use a white liner and a patterned fabric curtain so she will sometimes bat at the shadows she sees. This time she was a little more energetic and soon joined me in the shower. I don't know who was more surprised or who moved the fastest.  :o  :)

Larry, the cams are fun to watch but remember the time difference. We are four hours behind you. It is 7:18 AM now and there are five bears coming down from the hillside. It is 51 and cloudy at Katami presently. I always like to check the bear underwater cam as it is unusual to get a peek at seeing bears catching fish underwater. There are five separate cams for the area, the one on top and four on the bottom for viewing.

I have to assist with food deliveries starting at eleven this morning and then I hope to get back downtown to finish some errands. Yesterday I had both the buildings annual maintenance apartment inspection as well as the local tech sent by Dell to replace the faulty hard drive on my warranty covered laptop. Hopefully, that is all that remains for this year's inspections and hard appointments. I finally have everything off my balcony and am on the home stretch for giving, donating and tossing my hoarded surpluses.

One more item about the maintenance inspections. They were conducted by the head of both local housekeeping and maintenance as well as a couple of men from the Anchorage main office. It is a big deal as there are seven buildings owned by the company here and more in other Alaskan cities and I believe, but not sure, more in Canada. They will be here just this week to finish all seven local buildings. After that, the lease violations will go out to probably some surprise. This building has been smoke free since this spring and yet many of us have mentioned smelling cigarettes in the building. Smokers don't smell the smell as they are immersed in it, yet there will be things in their apartments that will be hard to disguise if they even remember. There is a picnic table alone by the sidewalk that is the only allowed smoking area.

Another issue is the ten carts that are supposed to be available for use moving groceries, packages, and other items from the main floor to your apartment. They are also used for Meals On Wheels and some other agencies such as the Salvation Army and Government food boxes. If you are lucky, there may be two or three to be found on the main floor. I have been told that some even use them in their apartments to put microwaves on. Lease violations are stiff financially and you are only allowed three before you are gone and since most here are disabled, it is a huge financial loss to move. But people become lax or forget there are consequences. I have seen it on food deliveries where people are either doubling up on the carts available or waiting in groups for their turn to use a cart or two. It is why I and a couple of others volunteer our personal cart and it is selfish of those who use them in their apartments.

Joan, I'm glad Candy is on the move again for your and for her sake.

For those watching golf, you may have my seat. I am the only non-golf person in the family. I am more into swimming or observing family or friends play than watching televised sports on my computer. I also have dental issues as I need to research Medicare and see about replacing five bridges. I have been holding off on that for awhile now.

Here's to a hoped for a good day for everyone!

wjoan

Candy is in Gardnerville, NV for a bit.  Between her and I we  dropped a lot of money in Tonapah so she has to now wait til the first of Aug. before she can continue her journey. She may be able to work for a bit to get some money.

June Drabek

I have been thinking about old friends...like India and Sparky. so many have disappeared from our lives here since we became Srs. and Friends.

It will be a high of 85 today, and my neighbor already has her A/C turned on. We both face East and have a wall of windows in that direction, so we get warmed up in a hurry. Ick !!
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Carol

MaryTX:  A while back, you mentioned Dick's on QA hill.   I don't remember any being there - we usually drove over the Interbay Bridge to the Dick's on 45th.  My cousins went too Ballard high and I went to QA (then on to the U of W). Dick's french fries were sooo good.  Once, I was riding my bike over the Interbay Bridge and the horns started with the opening for boats going through - it scared me to death as I rode right over a bit of the opening - probably an inch but it felt like I would fall right into the water.  Never again took that chance!  Did you go to Golden Gardens beach - it is too hard to park near there now.

wjoan:  I hope you can cool your place - that is really hot.

wjoan

Carol, we have a/c in our individual apts.  Darn good thing.  Supposed to be 100 today/

Joan, I'm glad I'm not with you.  It's between 75 and 80 right now.  The thermometer I have is between this building and the garage and I think the heat gets trapped so the thermometer registers higher than it really is.

Tom just grilled some chicken breasts and mixed veggies.  The veggies weren't completely done, but I liked them anyway.  The chicken was done and good.

I just gave Tom his birthday gift for tomorrow as I didn't want it to get list with others tomorrow.  I gave him a check!  Recently when we went to the bank, they gave me two $50 bills.  I have one left over so I will give that to James.  He's of the age where I should not give money to his generation, but he can use it.

What I can see of the beach and water at Grand Haven, it is quite busy.  Several kites and boats too.

Mary Ann

angelface555

MaryAnn, it looks as if everyone is enjoying themselves in the cam shot. A very busy place today, apparently! Wish Tom a very happy birthday for me!

Joan, are you and or Candy able to get some recompenses for the money you and she spent due to their errors? I would certainly think you were entitled! We do not have air conditioners here unless it is a  personal purchase and the long narrow windows and the balcony doors are not a good fit for them. We have a very dry, desert style heat, very little to no humidity,  so when it gets into the eighties or higher like it is now, everyone has fans going.

I've just finished the food box deliveries to shut-ins and those with severe disabilities so it is time to go out and try to talk the grocery store into seeing it my way for a twenty dollar refund...wish me luck!

wjoan

Angel, Candy and I both are good at making notes and keeping dates, conversations, etc.  When she gets settled down after this, I am sure some heads are going to roll.

angelface555

Joan, that is a good idea. Be sure to include the ones that did or attempted to help in that scenario. A long time ago I purchased a mini cassette recorder and I use that to clarify my points as soon after an event as possible and also transcribe it for a copy. I have been known to keep it running privately in my pocket for known hassles. Having the opposing person on tape does wonders even if they only receive the transcribed copy as they know I have the original.

I didn't get my grocery store refund. They didn't agree with my refund but did take 15% off with came close with some odd change. I also purchased a box of five dozen large eggs for 8.99. A package of 18 large was priced at 2.49. You have to really pay attention to prices and remember not to shop the aisle ends but where the actual set of like items is located for a fair price.

Sandy

Good Evening everyone.....

June,  you mentioned India and Sparky...
I do believe that both of them have passed away.
Sparky had altzheimers and I know that India died
a couple of years back.

It is cool here on the rocky coast of Maine...
Just the way I like it.    But don't know for how long.

Sandy

Mary Ann - Wishing you a good time at Tom's 60th birthday party!  I know you'll be enjoying the time spent with family and friends.  I hope the twins are there too?  It will be a fun day for everyone.

larryhanna

Hi everyone. It looks like we will be having a nice and cooler day today, only in the 80's.  We had a lot of rain yesterday afternoon and evening with several hours of lightning and thunder.  I certainly don't have to water the grass tomorrow.  I have nothing else to write about as to my activities of yesterday as ended up again at home all day as just didn't feel up to attending the meeting I had hoped to attend.  I will be going to Sunday School and Church this morning as I signed up several weeks ago to bring the Devotional at Sunday School this morning.  We will likely stop somewhere after Church to have lunch and then just rest the rest of the day.

Patricia, I take it your shower isn't big enough for you and Farrah at the same time.  :)  Glad your inspections are over for the year and that hopefully your laptop will run for many years without further problems.  It is hard to cover up someone's smoking even if they smoke outside. I have been buying large eggs at Aldi's for $0.49/dozen.  I am sure they use eggs and milk as loss leaders.  We use a lot of eggs.

Joan, glad to see that Candy was able to continue her trip safely and hope she can find some work to tide her over.

June, I also get the morning sun into my office and then in the afternoons I have to close the blinds on the six windows in the sun room area as my easy chair faces the windows and the glare it unpleasant.

Mary Ann, sometimes when Pat fixes fresh vegetables for our dinner she will leave my raw as I much prefer several of them that way to being cooked.  However, I want my green beans adequately cooked and don't care for them served half cooked.  I bet James will appreciate an unexpected $50 as a gift.  Happy Birthday to Tom and hope you all enjoy his party this afternoon.

Sandy, nice you are having cool weather.

wjoan

We are supposed to be cooler today, in the 80's is all.  Sounds good to me

Mary Ann

Marilyn and Larry, thanks for the good wishes for the party.  I am sure the twins will be there as we expect their parents to attend.  James and Alicia have been down in Hillsdale this week at a Christian Athletes Conference.  Alicia is an athletic trainer in the Hamilton School System.  Tom suggested 22 people at his party, but one couple cannot come as they will be elsewhere.

Dot and I did our usual Sunday thing - church and Mr Burger.  We split a cream pie, then also split a tuna melt.  Then we talked while we finished our coffee.

Larry, the vegetables Tom fixed last night were underdone but that didn't bother me.  I've eaten a lot of those veggies raw.  We had orange peppers, onions and carrots with grilled chicken.  A few days ago he fixed pasta salad with the same veggies and long pasta.  I'd say the veggies were cooked, but I had trouble with the pasta so suggested he get pieces of pasta rather than long pasta so I could spear the pieces.  A lot of my trouble in eating at the table is I sit so low and even putting a cushion on the chairs doesn't help much.  I prefer to eat sandwiches!

Mary Ann
