Junee, it is good to see a post from you.  All is well here, at least so far - it's only 9 am.  I don't know if Tom is out to breakfast or sleeping in.  He's able to park his car in the garage so I can't see it yet.  Even the cat is sleeping in.  I got up about 7:30 am because I was wide awake and now I'm sleepy enough to go back to bed, but at 9 am, I don't think so!  The life of the 93-year-old!

Lots of whitecaps on Lake Michigan, some surfers and some kites.  I had read where it would be windy and I can see it has a start.

Hi, Friends!  Finally made it back here!  The summer has been really busy somehow and I can't believe it is Labor Day already.  Windell and I are hanging in there and taking one day at a time.  My blood panel two weeks ago showed a decrease in my thyroid uptake so my doctor increased my Synthroid dosage and I'm beginning to feel a little less tired in the mornings.  She also had me get a chemical stress test this past week because my diastolic BP and my pulse had been up some recently.  Test went well and they said I was "low risk" which was good to know because my father died in 1935 at 47 with a cerebral hemorrhage and my mother developed angina at 75 and passed away at 90 with congestive heart failure.  BP and pulse have come down some so perhaps I was just stressed.  Feel like I have a new lease on life!

Windell's hearing and his vision are gradually deteriorating.  He has difficulty reading the banners on the TV set now along with the scores of ball games.  When we paid our car insurance last month, he asked our agent how much we would save if he turned in his driver's  license and the agent told him we would save $800, so Windell asked if the company would also refund him for the last two years that he hasn't been a driver.  The agent smiled and replied no, that it didn't work that way.  Only Windell would think of that!  But we did go to the DMV that afternoon and he turned it in and got an official picture ID.

Mary Ann, glad you got to go on a trip with Tom and got a break from your day to day routine.  I know Kendrick is a lot of company for you.  I miss having a furry ball crawl up in my lap to be petted!

Gloria, so sorry to see that you had to spend more time in the hospital, but I hope the oxygen helps you.  I know your kittycat must have been glad to see you again!

Joan, so sorry Candy is still having car problems!  On July 3rd we were parked at the grocery store and when we came out and I started the car, I got a dashboard message to "Service Power Steering Soon:  Drive with care".  I backed up a little and when I tried to pull forward, the car wouldn't move.  I couldn't even turn the steering wheel.  Turned it off and tried again - same thing.  So I called the Buick dealer and the gentleman said that there wasn't anyone there that they could send to help me but I should get it to them after the 4th.  After we had talked for several minutes, he suggested I start it again and it worked, thank goodness!  When I took it in later that week, they had to reprogram my power steering computer program!  Makes you wonder what other computer program could go wrong!  Technology is great when it works!

Beverly, know you are enjoying your visit to New Hampshire and am so happy that you got to visit with Larry and Pat!  Our oldest granddaughter graduated from Wofford College in May and she has just started an accelerated program in Nurses Training at the Medical University of SC in Charleston.  Her dad went to the program there this past week where they presented her with her stethoscope.

Larry, sounds like we could have a storm on our coast around the weekend.  We have only evacuated for two storms in the past - Hugo in 1989 and Floyd in 1999 - but if they are a category 4 or 5 we do go inland.  It was a very hot summer this year and those summers tend to precede strong storms in the fall.  I remember working on the county bookmobile in the summer of 1954 when thermometers on the outside of our country stores registered 103° some days and that was the fall that we had Hurricane Hazel.  It demolished a lot of the wooden guest houses and structures along the strand and when rebuilding began, the companies built high-rise structures that are much more resistant to high waves.  In Hugo, the wave wash went through the bottom floor of some of those structures but everything above the first floor was high and dry.  We only had some limbs down in our yard and some shingles off of the NE corner of our roof.  Floyd dropped a lot of rain and caused flooding of the coastal rivers and some coastal areas of NC.

Shirley, I can identify with your posting problem.  The YMCA where Windell goes for cardiac rehab is closed today so I had a little extra time.  Otherwise I would be in the car with him and running errands while he is still there.

Wishing all of you who post here a great Labor Day and good week to follow!  I'm sure we are all thinking of the victims of Harvey in Texas and Louisiana.  Praying for God's blessing and grace for them!

Mary Ann, this "almost" 93 year old takes several naps during the day, even after a full nights sleep. In fact my bed is beckoning to my right now.....that or the recliner..they are both great for snoozing.

Welcome home Johann. Hope you can settle in and recover from being so busy.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

MARY ANN.
Another of our "nineties" and you are such a great poster whereas I read but seldom post.  I enjoy hearing your news and can see Kendrick keeps you entertained.  Keep well. Junee

Good afternoon, Finally a beautiful day. The roads are jammed around here I hear.  Everyone heading back to the city.  The Indians had a 4 day PowWa They had good and bad days.  Some came for as far away, Washington state.Everything they sell, years ago Chief Thunderbird, said had to be American.  I had a group that use to come and to my studio and make a lot of ceramics gifts.  One of them beautiful scenes on them

Junee, Thanks for thinking about me, in these golden years. Always good to see your post.  I just read my discharged orders, I have high protein, low salt, bad kidneys other wise in great shape.  We have to keep our 90's club in here going.  I do not post every day either, but I do read.

Larry, I feel better, as I also saw post from Patricia.  We worry about one another.

Gloria, I am sure you are also having a beautiful day.

FlaJean

Gloria, glad you are feeling better.  I know you also have a grandson with some medical problems.  How is he?  I often think of you in New York and your daughter-in-law and grandson down here in my area.  It has been hotter this summer than usual and I'm sure your summer weather has been much more comfortable than ours.

Mary Ann

Johann, it’s always good to see a post from you and know that you and Windell are both hanging in there.  I guess I have to say that I am too.  Earlier this year I had skin cancer surgery which turned out very well and Wednesday I go to the doctor for a final check on the surgery.

A couple of weeks ago Tom’s son and family were here and I held one of the girls while her mother fed the other girl (twins, not identical) and got her ready for bed and the ride home.  The girl I was holding (they’re seven months old) was screaming at my left ear and I am sure her screaming affected the hearing in that ear!  My sight is OK for general seeing, but I have trouble reading on the computer.  I have computer glasses but it is hard to get them at the right level when they’re being made.  I make do!

Johann, Kendrick is not a lap cat, in fact, he is not cuddly at all.  But he loves attention and being wherever I am.  He checks on me frequently.  When I go to the living area where he might be, he lies beside me on the davenport and goes to sleep.  He usually pays me one visit each night and stays about 20 minutes, if that long, then goes to the lower level to sleep.

June, I just woke up from a nap.  I usually intend to take a nap in the afternoon, but I get involved in doing something and it gets too late for a nap.  Right now I am watching the golf tournament and those don’t get interesting until the last couple of holes when the scores are close enough to force an overtime.  Today could be one of those days.

Junee, I try to post at least once a day so Norm’s name will still be on the folder name.  I am not a busy person, even though it might sound like I am, but other than Sundays or holidays I can at least mention having gone for the mail.  I live a very sedentary life!  If someone happens to mention a visit to somewhere I’ve been, I can always relate my experiences.  I have never been as far as Hawaii, let alone Australia so I have not visited your area, but I find I’ve visited or driven through 46 of our 50 states.  So I usually can find something to mention.

Gloria, you’re right, we have to keep our 90s group going.  Are there more than four of us?

Jean, now that you’re settled in your new area, how are you getting along?  I do miss the bird shots and videos you used to post.  I don’t sit where I can see the birds so I do not have a bird feeder.  With a cat, I am sure a bird feeder would drive him crazy.

End of book!

Mary Ann, I had another nap after lunch...for about an hour. we are having a cloudy day which I enjoy. So I plan to put on some shoes and go for a walk around the garden. Gotta keep this body moving around a bit.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

There are 3 to 4 fires down in OR and the smoke is blowing up here.  With  this neat wave, our air quality is going to be terrible again.

FlaJean

Mary Ann, I do miss our bird feeders and seeing all the different birds.  Occasionally we dog sit our daughter's two little dogs and they would get an upset stomach from eating the bird feed that fell on the ground.  But Larry still has a couple of feeders and a pole so we might put one up eventually.

Mary Ann

Joan, you aren't near Marilyne, but she mentioned smoke from the fires too.  We just have disasters all over the country, don't we?  Florida is now waiting for Hurricane Irma.

I wish we'd get some rain here, even a heavy rain, just no storm.  Forecasts call for both rain and/or storms and we had a few sprinkles earlier today, but nothing serious.  It would help my plants a lot if we'd have a decent rain.  Nothing like Houston!

Mary Ann

wjoan

Mary Ann,  Candy is stuck in OR and she is the one telling me about all the fires in OR.

larryhanna

Hi everyone. We are to have a mostly or partly cloudy day all day today but still getting up to around 90 degrees this afternoon.  I expect to spend most of today working on Pat's laptop.  I have run into no snag yet and don't anticipate any but it just takes time to deal with the little details of loading and setting up various programs and games that she likes.  I had a good but busy day yesterday.  Our son needed a new bed and we decided that would make a good early Birthday and Christmas present so yesterday I went with him and he selected the one he wanted.  I did enjoy the final day of the golf tournament yesterday afternoon.  It was another good ending with the lead changing hands several times close to the end.

Johann, sure nice to see  your posting and get an update on what has been happening over your way.  That is a significant savings on insurance by having Windell surrender his driver's license since he wouldn't likely be driving again anyway.  Our lives are now affected in so many ways by the small computers in our cars, appliances and many other applications besides our computer and cell phones.  It sounds like your granddaughter will have a very busy school life for awhile being in an accelerated program. I am just now watching the Weather Channel and it looks like the Keys and Southern Florida are certainly in the path of Irma and now there is another storm that they expect to turn into a Hurricane that is right behind Erma but too early to know where it might go.  I sure hope it misses the East Coast and you are safe and sound.

deAngel, it sounds like yesterday was a good day to stay at home and off the roads around your area.  Keep an eye on that low salt as that can also end you back up in the hospital, at least that was my experience.  Glad you also saw a posting from Patricia.  I sure miss her interesting postings and all the information she shares with us about Alaska.  I sure hope we haven't offended her in some way.

Jean, sure hope Hurricane Irma won't impact your area in the next few days or any of our Florida friends. Pat has sure enjoyed having the hummingbird feeder out for the birds that last couple of years.  Where she sits she can keep an eye on it as there is a window to our patio straight ahead from her chair.

Mary Ann, keeping my fingers crossed for you on your checkup on the skin cancer surgery.  Glad that Kendrick is keeping a close eye on you.

June, am glad you were able to get out for a couple of hours yesterday and enjoy yourself with nature and being with friends.

Joan, too bad that the smoke from Oregon is affecting you there in Washington.  It is a good time to stay indoors as I know you are probably doing. I hope Candy will soon be able to resume her trip to Santa Cruz.

Marilyne

The worst heat wave I can remember in my lifetime, has finally ended!  The temps in the range of 100 to 110, along with he smoke from wildfires, was difficult to deal with for so many days.  Fortunately, we have AC, but lots of folks don't have it, so Cooling Centers were set up in various places throughout the Bay Area.  Our electrical power went out a couple of times, so we had a few long periods of time without AC.

wjoan - I hope that the smoke has started to clear in your area?  Candy has had a difficult time with her car for the past couple of months. Maybe when she finally gets to Santa Cruz, she will be able to get a new one. (I should say *newer one* . . . I don't think many of us can afford a brand new car, with today's prices and subsequent cost of insurance, registration, et al)

I'm hoping that everyone in Florida, and along the East Coast, will not get hit by this latest hurricane/storm.  I haven't looked at The Weather Channel, this morning, but my Google news page says that Irma, is moving toward more destruction.  I wish all of you who look into this discussion, a pleasant calm day, free of any sort of worrisome weather. :)

SCFSue

Johann, thanks for your update.  It's nice to hear your news and that you and Windell are OK, except for him not being able to drive.  I can sympathize with him as my son is still not letting me drive because I must wear a heavy brace on my right leg daily.  I'm walking well--at least 30 minutes a day outside--but he thinks (and is probably right that I wouldn't be a safe driver with the brace).  We don't realize what a privilege being able to drive is until we are no longer permitted to do so!

Good Evening Everyone,  from the still
cool rocky coast of Maine.

I see that there is yet another really bad hurricane,
name IRMA  that is headed for the South East  and
should start causing problems by this weekend...

It is already a Cat 5 storm and looks to
be very well put together.    It reminds me of
the way  Andrew looked back  1992...

Very scarey and I hope that everyone in the South
is preparing for what might come.

Best wishes to all.

I had very good new this week.   I passed
my Mammogram....  no issues to talk about.
I am very very lucky.

Thurs I have a Dr.s Appointment to have my
eye checked.    I do have Cataracts so in the
next few  years or sooner I will have to have
that taken care of.      It really scares me  as
I only have vision now in one eye.

Hopefully all will go well.

Have a good evening everyone!
Sandy

Sandy, if I had vision in only one eye, I probably would be scared too, but I have had cataract surgery and it really was a "piece of cake".  Norm and I both had the surgery in 1999.  I chose to continue to wear my glasses, but Norm often did not wear them except for driving and got along very well.  Dot had the surgery earlier this year and marveled at the fact she does not see double any more.  All I can offer is "Think Positively"!

Hi everyone. It is another overcast morning with a good chance of some rain today and a high of only about 80 degrees.  Tonight is our first Wednesday night dinner at the Church for the fall and Pat has decided to go again this year.  Then we will enjoy having Scott and Jennifer out for a couple of hours to visit. I spent most of yesterday and last evening working on Pat's laptop.  About 9 pm I did something and lost the shortcuts I had spent several hours getting set up on it.  I got up early this morning and recreated them.  Now have only a few other programs to install and then will be done with the restoration.

Marilyne, sure happy to see that your heat wave has lessened and hopefully the smoke is less.  That AC is something we wouldn't want to give up as it makes life so much more enjoyable and was certainly beneficial to you all with the smoke.  This morning the Weather Channel is putting people along the coasts of Georgia and the Carolina's on alert as the hurricane is turning in a northwestern pattern.  It is certainly a powerful hurricane.

Sue, my wife didn't drive for several months due to her back pain and taking the strong pain pills.  Fortunately she is now able to drive again.  Do you live with your son?

Sandy, glad your medical test turned out fine.  I see you are also dealing with cataracts.  I am finding my vision is less clear weekly and know I need to have mine taken care of.  I now need the computer print pretty large and darker than normal.  Fortunately my eyes are in great shape otherwise so really have no excuse to put it off other than not wanting to start the process.

Mary Ann, your message is very encouraging regarding having the cataracts removed.

shirleyn

Hi guys & gals!  Well, here we go again.  We are battening down the hatches.  We will stay here (central Florida) as it doesn't look so bad for us.  My daughter and two grandsons, who live in Key West, have evacuated to be with her Dad in Tenn.  My son in Ft. Lauderdale is flying out to Penn (her family lives there).  So there you have it.  I will try & keep you all posted.

shirleyn.

halkel

shirleyn, stay safe and hope you don't have too much damage.  It looks like a bad one, but thankfully it is not like Harvey and dropping all the rain.
You will be in my prayers.

Each storm is different - some wet, some just windy.  Only time will tell.  Thanks Hal.

Marilyne

Hi shirley - Good to know that you live inland, so sounds like you'll be safe.  I'm going to turn on the TV now, and see what The Weather Channel, is showing.  I'm trying to think of others from S&F who live in Florida and the Carolina's, who will be in any danger?  FlaJean lives up in the panhandle, and Beverly lives in The Villages.  I hope those areas are not in the path of the storm?
Stay safe, and keep us posted!

wjoan

Hi Shirley, my thoughts are with you during this upheavel.  Hugs .
Joan

SCFSue

My sister and her husband live in a beach town near Jacksonville.  They have made reservations for a motel further inland, in case the storm does go up the coast.  If it gets too bad there, they will try to come up here, but the trip is long and arduous and traffic on I-75 will be bumper to bumper.  My prayers are with all those in the path of the storm.

SCFSue

Good afternoon, really a fall day.  Lots of rain this morning.

My prays are with out in the path of this awful storm.  I have not heard yet if it could make it to Long Island.  I live on the east end.

Click for Riverhead, NY Forecast

Marilyne

Gloria de - I hope that Irma, does NOT make it as far as Long Island!  Good that you will have your nephew with you for the next couple of days, just in case.

Be sure to join us again in the Television discussion.  Not much going on there in recent weeks, but now that Fall is here, there will be a lot of new shows to watch.  Did you know that one of the Property Brothers, from HGTV, is going to be on Dancing With the Stars.  I will take a look and see how he does.  I don't know who else will be on the show.

Mary Ann

Larry, I am so glad I had the cataract surgery; it enabled me to drive another 10-12 years.

Shirley, I do hope Irma doesn't reach you in all her fury.  One thing Dot did not want was to be in Florida during a hurricane and while they would not have been there now, they used to go down in late September and would have been there to finish out the season.  Dot is very happy to be up here year round.  We have a motto about snow - if it snows, she stays home.  I felt the same way.  Beverly is north of you, but I know the entire state is under Emergency.  JeanFla is in Niceville, in the panhandle.  Keep safe, all of you.

Mary Ann

Mary Ann

I hit a key I shouldn't have and didn't have use of the computer for a while.  But I also went to the dermatologist for a final check on my skin cancer surgery in December.  I have nothing to report because I waited over a half hour without being called, so I went to the desk and told the scheduler that I was leaving.  She was surprised that I had not been called but offered no explanation, asked if I wanted another appointment, and checked to see that I would not be charged for the call.  And I left.  Tom and I stopped at a supermarket for lunch and we came home.

Watching the Weather Channel, I just saw an announcement that South Carolina is on watch.  I know Larry lives far inland, but they don't know yet what direction the hurricane will take, so they are warning the people.

Mary Ann

Joy

Just getting around to checking in.

Mary Ann,  I had a very nice week end with my grandson and grand daughter and their children.  It was a very busy weekend.  I did more in the past 4 days, than I have done in a long time. We were on the go pretty much the whole time.  Enjoyed seeing the 2 little grand daughters.  One is almost 2 and the other almost 9 months old.  They were a little shy at first, but eventually warmed up.   They did have several things planned for us to do.

Lindancer,  We did go down to New Haven and had dinner at a real nice seafood restaurant right on the Long Island Sound.   It was called Lenny and Joe's Fish Tails.  I did get my cold lobster roll and it was delicious.  My grand daughter's boyfriend had fried oysters and a dozen raw oysters, which he said were delicious.  I was really surprised that New Haven was such a big town.

I have not done much today,  Trying to catch up on my sleep and  get rested up.

I did read back most of the postings,  but too much to make any comments. So,  do hope everyone is doing well.

Almost time to think about some dinner.  Had a late breakfast and late lunch.

Sounds like the approaching hurricane could be a bad one.  Hope everyone in it's path will remain safe.  The weather sure has been very devastating these past couple weeks.  So sad that so many people have been affected.

Mary Ann

Joy, I find when I go visiting that I am more busy than usual and I come home exhausted.  I had said I'd go to Indps in the fall and that season is approaching.  I am not so busy that I can't go at the drop of a hat, but I think I'll wait until someone asks me when/if I'm going down.  And they usually do.  I don't do a thing when I'm there except visit so there is nothing strenuous, but I still am tired when I get home.  They're my second family so I do like to go to visit them and I love Indps.  There are no little children there.
