MaryAnn, Our first TV was 7inch Motor Roller, i do not know what yaear that was but Dennis was still in a play pen and would watch Kula, Fran and Ollie.  He was born in 1947, so it might have been 1949, I remember my husband getting up on the roof of our two story house to put the antenna up and we had to keep telling him which way to face it, for the best reception, one way we got NYC over 100 miles aways or Conn. Those were our happy days. Before he passed away my husband bought me a 42in, for my birthday

Gloria, I forgot about antennas.  We had one, but I don't know who put it up, I think it was not my dad so it could have been from where we got the antenna.  Eventually, we got an antenna rotator where we could move the antenna around to get a good picture.  Probably in the 1960s when we were at the cottage, we had a bad storm and when we got home (the cottage and home were about 25 miles apart), we found lightning had struck the antenna and it affected anything that was on the same circuit as the outlet where we plugged in the TV.  It was a hot weekend and the refrigerator was off all weekend and everything in the refrigerator and in the freezer was defrosted and had to be thrown away.

That makes me think about the antenna on the house where I lived before moving to the condo.  I heard a horrible, vibrating noise and started to trace the noise.  I thought it had to do with the water softener and when I was beside that, the sound was not starting there.  I eventually went outside and discovered a flicker was on the TV antenna and it would peck on the antenna in rapid motion and that was causing the noise.  I had to laugh, but it was a great mystery for several minutes.

It's about 8:30 pm now and it's dark.  Wasn't it light at 8:30 pm just a short time ago?

Hi Everyone.  We are going to have a much cooler day today, which is sure welcome.  I expect this to be our normal Sunday with Sunday School and Church and then out to lunch.  Hopefully another couple from our Sunday School class will be able to join us for lunch.  The rest of the day will be one of rest.

Mary Ann, I hope getting your new phone plugged into the way wasn't too difficult and that all are charged up and working. I guess I would have to say that Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy are also two of my favorite programs.  I saw yesterday that Monty Hall from the old "Let's Make a Deal" program had died. It is my understanding that streaming is where the signal is received through the Internet and the material isn't in our possession such as a CD.  Of course, with the ability to record such programs we do capture what has been streamed or broadcast or received via the cable.

MarsGal, I didn't realize there was an app to help one recognize the stars.  Sometime ago I became of an app that would help identify flowers and plants but have never had occasion to use it.  It is like a lot of the apps I have on the phone that I never use but when I consider removing them I think I might want to use them sometime so leave them. You have a treasured possession if you have a quilt your mother made so many years ago.  I can remember my mother and grandmother going to the church basement where the ladies usually had a quilt underway that they were hand quilting.  I know they enjoyed the conversations as much as the quilting.

Patricia, the cold is arriving quickly up your way. I am surprised that you never have to turn on your heat or use your small heater very often during the winter months when it is so cold outside. I seem to have reached a point of burnout in terms of watching TV.  For years I wanted the noise but this last year have discovered the joy of silence.  I find the noise of the commercials so annoying with the repeating of the same few notes and loud background music.  If I am where I can mute the sound at the time it gets turned off.  Pat and I now spend most of our evening listening to audiobooks, each individually, and doing games or puzzles on our laptops. I know there are some very fine programs among the junk. I think my dad bought our first B&W TV in 1957 and it got only two or three stations, the picture wasn't good and it seemed one had to do a lot of tuning with the vertical and horizontal controls.  The TV you bought is a nice size for a small room. I very seldom sit and watch TV but just listen and glance up occasionally.  Now with instant replay if I miss something it likely will be re-shown immediately.

Mary Ann, Pat and I didn't get a color TV set, a Curtis Mathis in a nice cabinet and with radio and record player, until right before we moved to Alaska in 1968.  When we got to Alaska we found they were transmitting color.  However, that soon changed and we were able to see the programs in color.

deAngel, I remember Kula, Fran and Ollie and the old Dave Garrison Today Show and the monkey he had on it.

Marilyne

When I think of the early days of television, the first thing that comes to mind, is how friendly and welcoming the neighbors were back then!  I remember the family who were the first on the block, to purchase a TV set. They were happy to have any and all neighbors, (children and adults), come in to watch TV at night.  They even set up folding chairs and kitchen chairs for people to sit on! We would just knock and walk right in, in those days.

My aunt and uncle in Long Beach, also had one of the early sets.  I would spend weeks at a time there, with my cousin every summer.  We looked forward to watching Korla Pandit every evening.  He was supposedly from India, wore a turban, and lots of jewelry, and played the organ.  The entire program was just him, sitting at the organ and staring at the camera.  He never smiled or spoke - just a mysterious hypnotic gaze, as he played. Kay and I were fascinated by him, and never missed a show. He was very popular in the Los Angeles area, but I don’t know if his show was available in other parts of the country or not?

Many years later, it was revealed that he was actually an African American, from the Midwest, who moved to L.A. in the early 50s’s, to make a name in television.  He changed his name to Korla
Pandit, and passed himself off as Indian, from New Delhi. He made a fortune in those early years.  There are lots of articles about him on the internet, with pictures.

halkel

You all make me feel old.  We, my wife and I, got our first TV in 1954.  It was called a table model, and it did sit on a swivel table, but it weighed a ton and took two men to move it.  Kept that thing for literally years.  It was an Admiral and before I got rid of it I could handle most of the repairs, including replacing the picture tube.

Also had a 50 mast for my antenna and mounted it on a three story apartment building in Canada to pickup U.S. stations.  Canada had only three stations in those days mid 50's.  But could watch college football on Saturday afternoons.

FlaJean

Amazing the programs we watched in the very early days of TV.  I remember watching a women’s wrestling program and just couldn’t believe what I was seeing.  I lived in a small town and we had never heard of such.  So there we sat glued to the TV watching something that to us was crazy and unusual.  I think the pendulum has swung from bad to some good programming and back to bad, generally speaking.

Good morning from a bright but cool, plus 34, sunshiny day in the Arctic Interior! We are expected to stay dry until Thursday and those ugly grey clouds have moved on for now.

Farrah has finished her hoarse growling and dashing about from hither table to yon counter and on to the computer table before jumping back onto the counter. I'm sure we're safe now from all the mighty, invisible, mini aliens and Farrah is tired enough for a small nap. This is another reason I'm trying to make sure her daily 2/3rds cup of chow isn't mostly treats.

Those leaps across are sometimes four or five feet and I'm sure use up lots of muscle power and stamina.  "The fastest animal on Earth is a cat. Not the domestic one, though. It’s the cheetah who can accelerate up to a speed of 75 mile per hour which equals 120km/h. Astonishing. But how fast can a domestic cat run?

So we asked for a help of our local police officers with a radar and found out that, while normally cats walk on average at a speed of 2 mph (3.3 km/h), but during the spurts, some cats can reach top speed up to 30 miles per hour, which is close to 45 km/h.

It actually is faster than Usain Bolt, who during his world record run (his current one, set in 2009), achieved 27.78 mph (44.71 km/h).

But can we say cats are faster than Usain Bolt? No, because, let’s be realistic, most household cats are not up to condition to achieve a top speed, but fair is fair, not all humans are able to achieve the top speed of Usain Bolt either.

In cats, similarly like in Usain Bolt, the top speed is reserved for short spurts exclusively. The strategies used by domestic cats is that they wait in an ambush, or slowly approach their prey, and then, when they are in the distance of one or few jumps, they attack, and even then, not always necessarily reaching the top speed."

http://www.pet-happy.com/how-fast-can-a-domestic-cat-run/

That manic burst of speed that domestic cats indulge in is the result of all that inbred prey instinct that builds up in a domestic cat without an outlet. If you punish your cat for a natural act, that instinct will still be there needing a release but will probably turn destructive.

http://www.our-happy-cat.com/cat-hunting.html

"Chattering teeth â€" Have you ever seen a cat watching a bird through a window? It’s body tenses up, the bird is fixed with a constant stare and then quite strangely the kitty begins to chatter its teeth and emit a strange rattling noise. This is known as a vacuum reaction. They have become so engrossed in the sight of their prey, that they start to imagine that they have already caught them and are killing the animal with their bite.Cats have a very distinct way of biting their prey, which ensures a quick death with little risk to their selves. This biting action is similar to the chattering teeth motion you see at the window."

"Head swaying - Cats will often sway their head from side to side very quickly just before they pounce on their prey. This is important so that when they do pounce that they do not miss their target.

Cats have binocular vision which when they shake their head quickly allows them to accurately judge just how far away their prey is and so gives them a better chance at hitting their target."

"Uhgggggggg, this is the normal human reaction at discovering a dead mouse or bird left for them on their doorsteps or brought to them by their sweet kitty.

Actually, our reaction should be "Thank you very much" and to give plenty of strokes. Why? Well in our cat's eyes we are part of their family and if they feel that a member of their family is not able to catch its own prey then they will try to provide some."

"This is why neutered female cats are often the main culprits of this behavior, as they do not have kittens of their own and their instincts dictate to them that they need to bring us some food. It’s very sweet really; it’s just a shame that we do not appreciate a good gooey mouse as much as our feline friends do."

In short, cats were designed to hunt. Even to the food, they need to the way they're built is for hunting. And why man attempted to domesticate and prized them back long ago. They kept the pests out of the granaries and away from the young of our chickens, ducks, and goats. Now it is too dangerous in the modern world to let them run free but that drive as with Farrah is still there.

Jeanne Lee

Our first TV, 1952, was a second hand RCA 10 inch screen in a console that included radio (AM only, no FM) and 78 rpm record player.  All the parts used the same speaker.  About noon time there was Ernie Kovacs while #1 son had lunch and was put down for his nap (not a nap time for Mom, of course.  :D )  In the afternoon there were the  15 minute soap operas which had transferred from radio.

At night, after Daddy was home and supper finished there were comedies like "I Love Lucy" and adventure shows like "Green Hornet".    Everything still in black & white, of course.

Jean, you are making me wonder if I should have left my money in my pocket...actually I have been having buyer's remorse off and on. I hope there are still documentaries and good PBS programming and that I'll find shows on cable to watch such as this HGTV.

I am not a fan of senseless sitcoms, violence or gore. If it is necessary to the plot and not overt, fine but we seem programmed to need and even want all that gore as if we had our own prey instincts.

It must be the need to feel superior that keeps so many watching shows like the Kardashians or false morality for the wives of this or that shows. Please keep in mind that I have never actually seen these reality shows so I can only go by what I've heard.

I remember when I was first married, in 1969, that a neighbor was going to throw out an old blonde wood console with television, record player and radio. He said it no longer worked and I said it would still be a nice piece of furniture. I'm sure he thought I was nuts but it saved him a trip to the dump.

Remember when the stores carried a selection of vacuum tubes like they now carry batteries? Well, I thought perhaps I could get the radio to work. I copied down the info I needed, spent an inordinate amount on tubes and inserted them. Lo and behold, everything worked and still worked when I sold it prior to moving to Ft. Sam in San Antoine in 1971.

Jeanne Lee, I missed out on all that early programming as our first television came after the fall flood here in 1967.

Mary Ann

A neighbor had the first TV in the neighborhood.  It was in a blond cabinet with a roundish screen (oblong but rounded at both sides).  They would invite my dad and me to watch certain programs - and I don't remember which.  I suppose that is what motivated us to get our first set, also black and white.

Patricia, there are still good programs on TV but not all are shown in all locations.  Since I don't take a newspaper, I have no menu as to what is on and I know I do miss some things, but I don't care for "too deep" programs.  For instance, I have not been watching the series on Vietnam.  In fact, I don't care for series of programs because I don't want to be tied to the TV for several nights in a row.  I have enjoyed the History Detectives, however, where someone might have a relic they think belonged to a prominent person or was involved in something noteworthy.  They usually investigate three things in the hour-long program.

A group Dot belongs to had to furnish the goodies for coffee after the church service this morning, so we stayed for coffee and did not go to the Cholesterol Pit this morning.  She was willing, but I was not.  It was World Communion Sunday and we, like a lot of churches, had communion.  When Tom got home, his church had not had it.  Two Baptist churches in our area recently merged and Tom is going there now.

I am watching the Presidents Cup golf match.  This match is different from the regular golf and I don't quite understand it, although I may understand more than I think.  It is in New Jersey and I just saw President Trump is there.  I don't think he owns this particular golf course, but he does have one in NJ.

MaryAnn, next week I'm going to buy the cheaper antenna while I take time to see what cable offerings are available and if I and my budget need them. The television forum here has been very helpful so thank you for suggesting them.

In the Episcopal church, there is the Blessed Eucharist or communion each Sunday. In some Episcopal churches, children are invited to communion whereas here only those who have been confirmed in the or a church may receive communion.

Children leave after the first part of the service to go to their different Sunday school classes. Adults do not have any type of Sunday School classes but there are various religious societies for men or women. The Altar Guild cares for the church fonts as well as for the coffee hour after each of the three services. Male and female Deacons and Lay personnel and various societies are prominent in the church here.

The service used is "high" which simply means it uses the earlier, similar to Catholic service rather than the "low" version which is closer to Protestant style services. The priests, male and female, wear robes or white cassocks with colored stoles depicting what time of the church calendar the service is in.

In my sixty plus years here I can remember only three changes of priests and their families. This church is on the Historical Record and the different priests and missionaries played prominent roles in the community. One priest was one of the first white men to climb Denali and others in that chain, Hudson Stuck, archdeacon of the Yukon led the first successful climb in June of 1913.

He also thought nothing of going into the various saloons and brothels of the then-burgeoning gold rush town and camps for Sunday Offerings and for finding voluntary labors for the church. The Episcopal church built the first hospital and the first library in town and ran both for many years.

Later it was one of the leaders along with the Lutherans and the Catholics to start the Council of Churches and the first women and children's sanctuary.

Joy

Patricia,  I hope that you will get your tv  working ok.  I guess I am surprised that you decided to get a tv,  since you have been without one for so long.

I think you will enjoy the food channel ,  PBS , and hopefully you will be able to get the Hallmark Channel.  They do have some really nice  movies.  They have already started showing some new ones geared towards the fall and their Christmas ones will be starting soon, also.  I just watched a nice one this evening.  Really nice stores that kind of give you a nice feeling.  There are several Christmas ones that they show as re-runs, which I can watch over and over.

Mary Ann,  I guess it was a nice change this morning to be able to have your meal at church instead of going out.  There is always next week.  I am always interested when you write that Dot usually gets an  "olive burger",  I had never heard of them until you talked about it.  Is it just a regular hamburger with olives mixed in it?  I would probably like it as I do like all kinds of olives.

I was later getting up and then got involved in writing checks for my monthly bills. I then started to go through a pile of junk mail and wound up spending a good bit of time shredding and sorting through a bunch  of papers.  Then,  one messy job tuned into several messy jobs.  But,at least I added to my paper recycling container and filled up the shredder.

Hope you enjoy the rest of the evening.

Joy

Mary Ann

Joy, to tell the truth, I would rather have gone for our hamburgers than be at the church coffee which is coffee with cookies and other sweet things.  As far as I know, Dot's olive burger has the olives in a sauce they put on the meat when they put the burger together.  We can usually tell which is her burger by the white sauce showing through the paper.  The olives are chopped up small and put in the sauce.  I've had one, it was OK, but I'm not a great olive fan any more.  I'm not sure but I think the olives are black olives; I'll have to ask Dot.

Your family gathering sounded great.  I wish we had enough people in the area to do such a thing.  We have always said that when Norm and Dot had the family at Christmastime, that was our family reunion because everyone was there, all descended from Norm along with spouses.  With Norm, Tim and Terry gone now, I think each family will have their own gathering and hardly anyone is in our area any more.  Time will tell.

Hi Everyone.  We have a cool morning with a clear sky and low humidity.  Yesterday was truly a delightful one weather-wise with a nice breeze and low humidity.  I ended up going to Sunday School and Church alone yesterday as when Pat went to get ready her back was hurting a lot and she said she was feeling a bit nauseous. I picked up  lunch and brought it home.  Our main activity for today is an appointment with the back surgeon so Pat can get an evaluation of whether surgery would help her back problems or not.

Marilyne, as I was growing up neighbors knew neighbors.  This is not the way anymore. I remember the first TV I ever watched was one owned by my Uncle and Aunt that lived about 100 miles from us.  It was a marvel.  When we got TV the best station had very little programming so they had a live wrestling match on each Saturday night.  I loved the musical shows and variety shows that used to be on.  I never saw Korla Pandit on TV or heard of him. Perhaps he was local programming in your area as the wrestling was for us.

Hal, I remember that many stores had tube testers and sold those replacement tubes.  I am glad those days are past.

Jean, I don't remember them showing any women wrestlers.  I agree with you on the quality of many of the programs that are offered.  Our ears are assaulted with noise, especially from the commercials, and our senses numbed with the lewd content.

Patricia, it sounds like Farrah has a morning routine just as most of us do.  She is protecting you by her patrol.  Cats protect themselves by their reaction speeds and racing speeds.  I have always wondered how they are able to leap up while standing still.  I certainly heard our cat with chattering teeth.  This was very interesting information you shared with us about cats. There are good and informative programs available.  A person just has to pick and choose.  I have never liked what they call the reality shows.

Jeanne, do you remember Arthur Godfrey and the Hit Parade?  There were so many good shows that kept us entertained.  I Love Lucy was and still is a classic.

Mary Ann, I don't think we had any choice but to watch TV in black and white as I don't think any of the stations were broadcasting in color.  I expect the equipment needed to do that was very expensive as well as making the TV sets pretty expensive.  Do you ever watch the Antiques Roadshow?  We also observed World Communion Sunday yesterday.

Joy, I think my wife spends more time watching the Hallmark movie channels than about any other programming.  She spends a lot more time watching TV than I do.  In the past I have enjoyed the Food Channel but now they seem to program where they show one episode after another of the same show continuously rather than having a mixture.

Mary Ann

Larry, I hope Pat can get some relief for her back pains.  An aching back makes life miserable.

Yes, I watch Antiques Roadshow but what are on now are reruns and even though I do not remember much of an episode, I don't watch them like I will later on when new shows are shown.  The lack of shows I want to watch is what drove me to watching golf.

Last night I was computing and had music on the TV.  I was wearing my "ears" and the left one was rather loud, so I took it out and put it on a table beside me.  This morning I came into this room, saw the aid and wondered where the other one was.  I don't realize I am wearing them and as I sleep on my left side, I forgot about the right one.  I went back to my bed, where it had to be, and finally found it between the two pillows.  I have trouble with that one coming out anyway, so it either fell out or I unconsciously took it out in my sleep.  All is well as I still have two hearing aids.

Kendrick came in to my bed about 8:30 am just before I was ready to get out of bed the second time.  I waited until 9 am, then told him I had to get up.  He was "dead to the world" and I had a time waking him up.  I really have not seen him sleeping so soundly.  He finally stood up and I could tell he wanted to continue as he pawed the blanket.  I got him to move so I could get out of bed, then raised the blanket to put over him.  He laid down and I put the top down - kind of like an envelope.  He's still there.

I probably will bring in my plants today but Tom said he'd get me a board to put the plants on.  I have some on a marble top table and I had plastic wrap to protect the table - in case.  I was ready to put more plastic wrap on yesterday but he suggested a board.  Now I have to think of something between the table and board.  My plants are still outside but it is to be warmer the next few days, so they're safe.

Mary Ann

I am not very good about remembering  the year it was when I did something.  For instance  I remember staying at my Mom's for a bit when I was pregnant.  My Aunt died <one of them> and she left me some money.  She had always told me to buy what I wanted and NOT what I needed, so I bought my first TV.  Yes it was in black and white and did need an antennae.   Had to have been around 1953.

Mary Ann

Joan, I think that is good advice for inherited money - in most cases.  I know that is not always possible.

Mary Ann

wjoan

Mary Ann, it was not a lot of money  but I adored this Aunt and  always did as she wished.  My other Aunt had money and left a bundle for me.  I found a stock broker and and took care of that little bundle till the CRASH came and just about wiped me out.

Marilyne

joan - wonderful that you had such generous aunts! I had three aunts, and only one had no children.    She told me that when she died, she was leaving everything to be divided between me, my brother and my cousin.  This was when she was in her 80's, and living in a nice senior retirement place. She lived to be 107,  so I think she must have used up all of her savings to pay expenses over so many years, because we didn't inherit anything. I'm sure she never expected to live so long.

wjoan

Marilyne, neither of my Aunts ever married so they pretty much gave me all they had, more love that did not go unnoticed by me.  :)

larryhanna

Hi Everyone. We are in for another beautiful day with the high around 80 degrees this afternoon.  Yesterday Pat saw the surgeon and he told her surgery would not solve her back problems.  I think she was relieved as now doesn't have to make that decision.  Unfortunately, she will have to live with the back pain treating it with medication.  After her appointment we went to Walmart to pick her prescriptions for her.  Then we stopped at the Dairy Queen and had a good and filling lunch/dinner.  It was 3 pm before we got home.

The only think on my calendar for today is a routine appointment with my cardiologist.  I have two doctor appointment on Thursday and had them mixed up in my mind thinking the two were today and the one I have today on Thursday.

Mary Ann, sometimes reruns are better than some of the new TV programming.  I think I am just tired of watching TV in general so have been taking a break.  I get involved in listening to an audiobook and right now prefer to listen to it rather than have the TV on.  I do catch the evening news and some sports.  It has been awhile since I watch Netflix or Amazon Prime videos.  Sure glad you found your hearing aid.  It sounds like you wore Kendrick out yesterday.

Joan, it sounds like you had a very nice aunts.

Marilyne, I always wanted my folks to spend their money on things they wanted to do.  However, they had worked extremely hard and were frugal and had the money for the care of them both in the nursing home and still left my sister and I a nice inheritance.

Mary Ann

I had two aunts and an uncle.  One aunt did not marry and was a grade school teacher and principal in Beloit WI.  A year after my mother died, this aunt was visiting the other aunt and had a massive stroke.  She did recover, but had to retire from the school and lived several years afterward with the other aunt (both were sisters of my mother).  Whatever she had saved, went to my other aunt who really needed it.  I have a couple of keepsakes from that aunt but no money, which is as it should have been.  The  uncle had four children and of course, nothing came Dad's way (he was Dad's brother).  I guess you'd say I got my start from Dad, learning how to save etc.  When he died, there were only Norm and me and we split everything.  I was able to buy Norm's half of the house so I owned that and any mutual funds Dad had were split.  Norm had Dad's interest in the stock market but he was not as cautious as Dad, much more daring, so he didn't have a lot when he died.  He and Dot did OK, but could not live high on the hog.  I will say they were not in debt, however, and what he had went to Dot.  I've had to redo my trust a few times because of Tim's death, Norm's and Terry's.  I just hope I go before Tom does!  But I'm not ready yet.

I think I saw where we are to get up into the 80s today.  It looks dreary out now, but radar does not show rain for today and by the time it gets near, it will dissipate; it's been a long time since we've had a good rain.

Tom is making noises downstairs so I know he's up.  I have a haircut appointment in about a half hour and we'll leave in 15 minutes.

Kendrick is sound asleep on my bed so I'll make that when I return.

Good morning, Mary Ann.

Sounds like it will be a nice day where you are and that you will be able to get out to get your hair cut.   Our area needs rain, also.

Thanks, Joy, my hair looks "spiffy" now.  I told the stylist about when I was in Florida and had my hair cut.  The woman then styled my hair in an updo, such as older women with white hair often wear theirs.  Others seemed to like it but I did not.  I do not like to leave a salon looking like I'd just had my hair done.  I want to leave with it looking as if I always look that way.  I've been fortunate in that my former stylist and present one have left it like I like it.

Tom and I had breakfast at the restaurant next to the salon afterward.  We both had omelets - he got the regular size, I got the Jr size and brought half of mine home for lunch or supper.

It is lovely here now, about 70 degrees or nearly so.

I can't believe Grand Haven - a few days ago the water temperature was 70 degrees and all of a sudden it's 48 degrees.  That is quite a drop.  No one would want to swim today, however, surfers might dare, especially when they wear apparel designed for surfing.

Hi Mary Ann!
Not too many people hanging out on your beach...

They just came and removed my AC... the timing
for it to come out was perfect.      So I guess Winter is

Sandy, it's the time of  year when there is little activity on the beach, especially during the week.  School's in session and most people have gone back to their homes and live normally.  In the summer, there are loads of campers, RVs and you-name-it in the camping areas.  Quite a few whitecaps today - windy.

I haven't had my A/C on for quite a while and even though our temps are to be in the high 70s to mid-80s this week, I won't turn it on.  I do have the heat set to go on if necessary.  Fickle weather.

Mary Ann - I know what you mean about the hairdressers wanting to do that short layered upsweep.  In the past, they always wanted to do that to mine also, but with the the sides and bangs longer.  After I washed it, I looked like a spaniel, and it was in my eyes and face all the time. I have a lot of hair, but it's very fine, so that style was droopy and unflattering on me.  Now, I have it longer in back and tapered on the sides.  Very easy for me to manage.

The temps here have been dropping into the 40's at night, but then warming up into the low 80's.  Supposed to be back to the 90's by the weekend.  This is typical of October weather here.  I doubt that we get any rain this month, but once in a while we do get a a slight amount.  Our cold weather doesn't start until around Thanksgiving.

Good morning from the Interior, sunny but chill today again, a repeat of all last week I suppose. Farrah has been fed and gotten her fresh water while I am on my first coffee. Today is the day for hunting and gathering and giving away my cash for the usual necessities and needs. I am still ambient on that TV, it's not looking good so will wait on that a bit more.

MaryAnn, still lots of whitecaps on that cam but as you predicted, there are nine little black stick figures suited up in the waves.

Larry, I was sorry to read about Pat's back and that seems to be usual as we age.

Marilyne our cold weather started the middle of last month. We are about a month to a month and a half early.

Marilyn, my hair has body and I haven't had a permanent since I was about 13 when I was trying to let my hair grow longer.  My mother told me at that stage to either get my hair cut or get an end curl (days of machine permanents).  I chose the end curl and the ends of my hair frizzed; I could hardly wait for my hair to get long enough to cut off the frizz and I've never had another permanent of any kind.  I just wash it and let it dry naturally.

I realized today that Kendrick has learned something else, in fact, I know he's known it for some time but it didn't register with me.  When the sun is shining when I go for the mail, I put on a pair of sun glasses.  He was relaxing in his scratch pad and I put on the glasses.  He knows I will let him out the door to wriggle on the porch stoop.  He got up and ran toward the door.  He was a good boy and came in when I got back and opened the door.  If the porch is clear in winter, he'll go out, but not with snow or rain on the stoop.

Patricia, with all of the odd weather we and you have been having, especially hot weather, I think it is unusual that your fall and winter weathers are coming early.  I think our weather is going to be more normal soon but we are to be in the mid-70s today.  It's nice because I can leave the doors open.

Marilyne, our temps at night are like yours but only  up into high 60's during the day.  Checked out the extended forecat and it looks like we may have some 70's  headed our way for a short time.
