joan - Sorry things did not work out for your daughters.  I remember when you said that you were doubtful that they would be able to live together.  If it's any consolation, I know that my two daughters could NEVER live together.  They have had totally different adult lives, and neither one of them can relate to the other.  I hope that Candy can settle down in WA, and find happiness there.

Patricia - There is usually one child in every family, who can throw everything off kilter, in just a matter of seconds . . . in your case, your older sister.  However, I know some families who have never had a moments trouble or controversy from any of their children, either when they were young or when they became adults. :-\

Mary Ann - I remember you talking about how good the food is at the Boulder Creek Country Club. Sorry that Dot is still not feeling well enough to join you and Tom.  Looks like another bland day here, but supposed to have light sprinkles over the weekend.  I hope it's enough to keep the fire danger down.

Mary Ann

We are back from Boulder Creek.  I had a wrap and probably should not have because I never know how to eat them.  I cut them up and eat with a fork but when I was nearly done, I picked up what was left and ate it with my hand.  I brought half of it home and will eat it later.  Regardless of how I eat/ate it, it was good.  It had grilled chicken and chopped up veggies in it with a nice sauce that didn't run all over the place.  I was tempted to get the soup and salad but I also wanted to try something else as I often do get soup and salad.  There were a few people golfing and there were a lot of cars in the parking area.  Not so many people in the restaurant so there may have been a special meeting in the downstairs meeting room.  The Country Club is only a few miles from home so north enders eat there often.

The day is still dreary and I can see where we have had sprinkles, but no downpour.  The weather hasn't slowed down the lawn guys and the way they're working, this could be their last time for the season.

Patricia, I hope your weather forecast does not come true.  Norm and I got along quite well but he did command (and get) preferential service because of his neuropathy.  It made it easy when Dad died because there were just the two of us to divide everything.

Mary Ann

My older sister must know that the saying, "Money can't buy happiness" is a truism because she has the former and not the latter. She is two years older than me and remembers things I supposedly did that adversely affected her before I was five!

My younger sister says she hasn't changed, now it's her kids doing her wrong.

She and I no longer communicate.

Joy

Good morning,

First, thank you, Bubble, for posting the pictures from Mary Ann of the twins.  They just are so cute !!!

Mary Ann,  I have to agree with you about eating a wrap.  They always sound good, but  I just never get one because I think they would just be  so messy and hard to hold onto.

It is a real pretty, sunny morning today.  Yesterday was just like a summer day. I had a jacket with me when I went out, but didn't even have to put it on.  Today is supposed to be the same way.  A  big change in temperatures next week.  But, I will take this "summer" weather anytime.  The people who take care of our lawn work were out before it got light out cutting the grass.  I am sure they sure didn't expect to still be cutting grass the first part of November.

My son and DIL are on their way for a weekend in Tucson with some Norwegian friends.  My son used to work with their Norwegian friend and have remained friends now that they both are retired.  They were here in the states visiting friends in Calif. and asked my son and DIL to meet up with them for the week end in Tucson.  They want to visit  Tombstone.  We were there years ago, and it is a fun little place to visit.  I hope they still have the re-enactment of the Gun Fight  at OK Corral.

Patricia,  I am sure you just get used to the kind of weather you have in Alaska.  I just don't like the cold anymore, but I have to just learn to accept it.  I used to love the snow, but not anymore. I feel bad for the ones that have to work outside in it.

I hope every friend here will have a nice day.

Joy

BIG BOX

Mary Ann

Thanks to Bubble for posting the link to the pictures of the girls.  I am just astounded when I look at them and see how cute they are.  I told Tom I could not see any family resemblance in either of them but he thought they might resemble his mother.  I looked and could see a possibility.  Of course, I didn't know his mother when she was young and I didn't know Alicia at that age either.  I do know where their red hair comes from as both parents (James and Alicia) have red hair.  James was carrot-top when young but is now auburn.  Alicia has bright red hair.

I can hear the recycle being picked up and the trash will be picked up after noon.

My feet bothered me last night and it was hard to sleep.  I think it was about 5 am this morning and about 6 am the cat was trying to get comfortable so woke me up.  I stayed in bed until nearly 7 am before I got up.  I know I'll take a nap sometime today!

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Mary Ann - such adorable pics of Ellie and Jo.  You'll probably see them sometime during the holidays, and they will likely be crawling around, and maybe even pulling up to a standing position.  Babies change so much during the first year.

I'm working on my first cup of coffee, so not fully awake yet.  It's 7:45 right now, so the day is just starting.  I hope my hairdresser will be able to squeeze me in this afternoon for a cut.  It's been so busy here the past couple of months, that I haven't been able to schedule an appointment.

Joy - nice to see your post this morning.  I saw your message in SS the other day, about fixing your own hair, and struggling with rollers, blow dryers, curling irons, et al.  That sounds like me!  After I wash my hair, it  takes me about 20 minutes or more to get it the way I want it. Then it stays okay for a couple of days.  I don't wash it every day.  From your picture it looks like our hair is about the same length - mine is maybe a bit longer.

Hi Everyone.
Another very pretty day and it is going to hot this afternoon getting into the low 80's.  My sister-in-law is safely back in her apartment in Missouri.  She had a long day yesterday but said she had a good flight and the ground transportation was waiting for her when she got to the Kansas City Airport.  We enjoyed her visit and the time went quickly.  Hopefully she will be up to visiting us again next year.  However, her health is not good. Today's big event is the housekeeper will be here shortly. We are going out to lunch and then stop at the company that supplies our CPAP machines for some new supplies.

Joan, our children can give us many heartaches.  Too bad Candy was taken advantage of.  Is Candy moving back to Washington?

Mary Ann, we used to have a country club where their restaurant was open to the public.  I am not aware of any such clubs here in this area. We had cheese and broccoli soup that we got from Costco and it was very good. Yes, Mary has a son and daughter, three granddaughters and a step granddaughter and four great grandchildren close by in Independence, Missouri.  Our yard people are now on a two week schedule and the grass has quit growing so it is more leaf cleanup.  I usually eat most food with a fork rather than use my fingers. Those pictures of the twins are adorable.  Thanks Bubble for sharing them with us.

Patricia, it must be a really tough job to forecast the weather up your way.  Those alert certainly get one's attention.  I am glad they are issued very often. I hope your hunting and gathering goes well today.

Marilyne, while I love my son I would never want to live with him.  Having our daughter living with us for many years was enough for me.

Joy, just take your knife and fork and eat the wrap that way.  It works as I always eat mine that way.  That is a long trip for your son and wife.  I hope they have a wonderful weekend.

Sandy

Larry.. you were talking about your sister in law and
I thought that you were talking about your grand daughter (dah!)

Sorry about my miss understanding..

Sandy

Mary Ann

Larry and Marilyn, while in the restaurant, I did eat the wrap with a fork but some of the pieces I cut turned out to be large, mostly because they became unwrapped!  I brought half of it home and ate it later with my hands and it turned out to be easier than I thought it would be.  I still think in a restaurant I'd use a fork.  Something like a wrap is easier to manage because I have trouble cutting things as I'm short and can't get leverage on the knife.  At times, I have had Tom cut something for me.  I'm beyond being embarrassed at such things.  It's one of those "any port in a storm" things - if I want to eat it, I take whatever help I can get.

In my Random Image thing at the side, I'm getting pictures of Sandy's Fe; she is so cute and at an interesting stage.

Mary Ann

wjoan

Larry yes she is.  She has friends here and she will be old enough come the 25th that she can live here.  ;)  Residents must be 62 or over.  She knows most of the residents here already and the Mgr even asked her if she wanted her to put her on the waiting list.  At the time tho she had other plans   Too bad things changed.  Not sure how long the list is either./b]

Marilyne

joan - I'm hoping that Candy gets an apartment in your complex, ASAP.  She probably feels like settling down now, after such a long ordeal.  What about her dog?  Is he still with her, or does he have a new home?  Sixty-two seems so young to me now.  My oldest daughter will be 60 next May.  She was talking about moving into one of those parks, like the one where Linedancer (Gloria de) lives.  Manufactured homes, with two bedrooms.  Her 26 year old autistic daughter lives with her, and will always live with her, so she needs more space.

Good morning from the snowy Interior! I knew it had snowed as I awoke to total silence just after three AM. I didn't hear any cars, trains, sirens or anything but quiet. No garbage trucks' rear end beeping at 6 AM nor any train whistle or clackity clacks at 8 AM which finally got me up. Snow does put a muffler out.

Precipitation is at  70% and humidity at 98%, hmmmmm...haven't seen that in a few years. The temperature at plus 31 is about the same as it has been and we have a couple of inches on the ground but nothing like what foretold! However, our grace period may have ended.

"Friday: Snow likely, mainly before 1 pm. Areas of fog before 1 pm. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 36. West wind around five mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible.
Friday Night: A 30 percent chance of snow, mainly before 10 pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 21. West wind around five mph becoming calm in the evening.
Saturday: A 10 percent chance of snow after 4 pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 27. Northeast wind around five mph.
Saturday Night: A chance of snow showers before 10 pm, then snow likely after 10 pm. Cloudy, with a low around 22. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 70%.
Sunday: Snow before 1 pm, then snow showers likely after 1 pm. High near 29. Chance of precipitation is 90%.
Sunday Night: A 40 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 16.
Monday: Partly sunny, with a high near 23.
Monday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 12.
Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 18."

Larry, we were getting almost hourly weather alerts the past week or so, but most of them fizzled out other than incessant rain and that black ice everywhere underfoot.

Joy, you're right about being used to it. I don't like the cold anymore, and I am lucky enough not to have to be out there on a daily basis. This afternoon will be enough! That said I like living here over other places in the US. We don't have the calamities weather or people wise that the US has, knock on wood. Alcohol fueled rages and crimes seem to be our busiest worry and fire our nemesis, living in a forest stretching over a thousand miles over the Interior.

We do have volcanoes too but they're in the S. E. part of the state. We here in this valley are both protected and cut off by mountains, so we stay pretty quiet. Once in awhile, some of the young military gets acting up, and one or more commanders may keep the troops home, for a spell but that isn't common.

Bubble, thanks for the link and MaryAnn, what a cute Halloween idea and such sweet babies! Our youngest grandchild in the family is 28 and the only one of the four married since last summer.

Joan, I'm sorry for Candy's upset, but I think it would be nice to have her living close. One of my friends here has her widowed daughter in law living just a floor below, so they see each other a lot. There is a five to seven-year waiting list here presently and out of the seven local company buildings, only two have open waiting lists.

You had to be 62 and disabled to live here, but they do have a seven apartment stretch on the first floor for middle-aged disabled. This apartment grouping was to enable some state funding.  Unfortunately, this summer they made it, our building, senior preference. I think it was probably cheaper than building or renovating new.

Hi Marilyne!

wjoan

Marilyne, just came from the Mgr. office and she is going to help as much as she can.  Candy needs to fill out an application, etc., but the Mgr  will take a faxed copy of it.  The dog will stay with her sister.

Mary Ann
Hope the twins went trick and treating.  !!!!Ellie and Jo are so cute and growing so fast.

Mary Ann

Hi Junee, thank you.  The twins are growing fast.  I saw them last Saturday and held both of them.  They wiggle around and notice things a person wears.  I had on a cardigan sweater and Jo was fascinated with the top button.  I could watch her and the button, but then she spied my pearl necklace and that I did not want her to handle so I tucked it inside my blouse top.  She still saw some of the necklace and I had to button my sweater to keep it from her.  In spite of their early births, it seems they are OK mentally.

Hi Everyone. It is going to be another warm 80's day here today with little chance of rain.  I plan on staying home today and just taking the day slow and easy.  I have some things to do here at my desk, including getting the Devotional ready for my Sunday School class in the morning.  Yesterday we did go to a new place for me called Antonio's Restaurant and we had baked spaghetti, although the only think baked was the cheese on top that had apparently been put under the broiler for a minute or two to melt it.  It was pretty good but will not order it again.  We had stopped at the business that supplies our CPAP needs and Pat and I both got what we needed.

Sandy, no problem and I didn't put the pieces together either since my SIL lives in Missouri rather than Kansas.  :)

Mary Ann, I have come to believe that other people really don't care that someone would be helping someone else and if they did that it is their problem not the person who is being helped.

Joan, it would be great to have Candy in your building.  You each would have your own space but still close.  It sounds like your building manager will be of assistance and hope there isn't a long waiting list.  I think Stacey was on a waiting list for three years or more before an apartment became available to her but when it did it was in a building that was close to where she had lived and on the same street or old apartment was on.

Marilyne, the manufactured homes can be very nice.  We lived in a three bedroom mobile home years ago when our children were young and it worked out well although we outgrew it.  I am sure the homes being built now are much better.

Patricia, there is nothing quite like the quiet that results from a snow storm.  It sounds like you have a good probability for snow for several days.  I do think the weather alerts have gotten somewhat out of hand.  I hope you were able to get out and replenish your supplies yesterday.

Junee, I like the avatar of the bird very much.  That is such a bright color.

wjoan

Larry, My mgr. is helping in this quite a lot.  Everyone loves Candy .  There are 13 people on the waiting list but she says it goes fast so lets hope it goes real fast.  She is only allowed to stay in my apt. for 2 weeks.  The  Mgr. said last time Candy was here that the three weeks seemed like two to her.  LOL  We cannot push our luck tho so hopefully some of her friends up here can let her stay at their place for a bit also.

wjoan

Tis 26 degrees right now.  I could not sleep so am up.   Snow expected tonight.

Marilyne

joan - Sounds like Candy has a good group of friends in WA, plus the support of your building manager.  I hope that an apartment becomes available soon.

Larry - we had some good friends who lived in a mobile home/manufactured home, in San Jose.  It was restricted to people age 55 and older, and was very attractive and close to shopping, restaurants, etc. Kind of set up like a little village.  The streets went in a wide circle, around a small park with lots of trees, benches and a pretty fish pond.  Their house was two bedroom, two bath, with a modern kitchen and dining, and a nice screened porch to the side.

Looks like rain, but so far, just a slight dampness.  It did rain further North in the Santa Rosa/Napa area, where the fire burned out thousands of homes and businesses.  The process of clearing out the acres and acres of the burned remains, will be monumental.

angelface555

Good morning from a foggy, still expecting more snow that never evolves, Interior!

I agree, Larry, that the alerts should just be called a forecast. It trivializes the message and will probably make people ignore the alarm if a real emergency is expected. We are supposed to have snow today and tomorrow.

The winter storm arriving this evening is likely to be from the east, and I just received a new alert that tomorrow's storm will be coming from the west and colliding with the eastern storm, thus dumping a massive load of snow. So far these 6 to 8 inches of promise snow hasn't shown up.

Yesterday we had two inches. I do not know about snow on the passes, hills or highways leading in and out as I only went to a mall to pay bills and buy groceries. If this building allowed credit payments, I wouldn't go out on that ice at all.

The only thing I have scheduled today, other than taking those three food boxes to shut-ins, is finishing up a couple of graphics lessons and checking on a few issues.

I hope everyone is having a good day!

MarsGal

Busy today moving things around to make an okay confined spotindoors for Shan until he is big enough negotiate the stairs at night. I even created a little more order out on the porch. Shan's next appointment with the vet is on Monday, when he should be getting his shots and a flea treatment. Then it will be a whole new set of excitement until he fully settles in. He is such a live wire right now. I believe he thinks I am a big food dispensing toy. Fingers crossed that the other two will accept him.

It has been a lovely sunny day today and not too chilly (mid 50s). This morning the just risen sun was orange with such an orange to yellow orange glow all round. Beautiful. I believe we are in for more rain by Monday.

Lindancer

Good afternoon, nice cool crisp day.  I guess to morrow night it will be dark at 4:30.  I hate changing the time.

Patricia, you made me feel cold, reading about all that snow. So far it is staying in the 50's.

MaryAnn, I loved seeing those pictures in another post. They seem to be growing so fast.

WJoan, I know you are happy to have Candy near.    In our park if you register your son or daughter they can stay with you, if they are over 18.

MarsGal, I enjoyed reading your adventures with Shan. I know you will be happy when they all can be settled together.

Larry, I am taking it easy every day since I am home from the hospital, it seems I slow down after every trip to the hospital. This thursday, my Red Hat friends brought me my dinner.

Marilyn, I have lived in my mobile home here for 35 years, we had sold a big house on 3 acres and moved here to what my husband first called a postage stamp, he kept making the yard bigger, as there was nothing in back of us. I am happy we made the move that many years ago, as now I am alone I can still manage it, with the help of my beautiful neighbors. As I have wrote before, there are 580 in Glenwood Village, we have a park within that has, even a putting green. We have beautiful very large pool and Rec. Hall.  To night they are having horse racing, 100 people have already signed up to go. and that had to be the cute off.  They will order pizza from Pizza rest. on the corner

MarsGal, thank you for the news about Shan! He sounds like he might be just what you and he plus the other cats need.

The fog has cleared out, and clear skies show no sign of the next expected snow storm. So far, so good!

I sold my "new" TV for the price I paid for it, so all ends well. I spoke earlier about delivering three food boxes twice monthly to shut-ins, and one gentleman mentioned his TV had died, so I bought mine and the stand up to show him, he had cash on hand, so there ends my short television experiment, and he will get enjoyment out of it with his cable. He is addicted to home improvement shows such as "Fixer-uppers." Also, something called Joyce Meyers.

Gloria, perhaps slowing down is right for you right now, and I'm sure Taffy enjoys a more relaxed pace. Is your nephew still there? Your park sounds nice; I would love a pool and horse racing! We have some local hot springs, but I don't drive so my time there is limited to invitations.

We also have some lakes,  streams, and rivers all requiring transport as well. There are four indoor pools, and one at the University that only need a membership or small cost for aquasize that I should get back into, but I am such a procrastinator.

With the farming community, there are many horses and horse associations around but again I lack transport, and the buses do not run to the outlying farms.

wjoan

Lindancer,  here if we sign up for 2 we would both be paying rent here.  We can have stay overs but only as long as 2 weeks.  Candy is working on finding somewhere else to stay when her 2 weeks runs out here.  This bldg. is under HUD rules.

Lindancer

WJoan, in the summer you can have your young g.children stay, but only for one month, they have to be behaved and they are allowed only one hour at the pool 1 to 2 That keeps everyone happy   By the way I know of very few grand parents who have their grands over a few day.

Mary Ann

We are not allowed dogs in our complex (the lawn guys object to walking over the dog poo) but they can visit.  When Tom lived up north, he and his family including their Golden Retriever would stay with me.  They were never here more than a long weekend.  I don't know how many people here have cats and I never expected to have one, but I seem to have inherited Kendrick.  He does need company but I'm not going to get a second cat for his company.

I hope to reset more clocks before I go to bed, but I did reset the clock beside my bed this morning.

I'm watching a golf tournament from Las Vegas today and will watch tomorrow.  I saw there is a tour coming up at 10:30 pm and I expect to be getting ready for bed at that time.

I'll have to call Dot this evening to see if she is well enough to go to church.  We invited her to go to lunch with us Thursday and she was still coughing up a storm.

Mary Ann
