I worked on my printer for 3 hours try to put a new Cartridge in.
It uses the long Toner type. I love this Dell printer and the cartridges last so long and just Black like I need.  Went to Staples to see if they had them. Dell has now gone out of business and so no printers any stores. They said could order the cartridge from them but had to pay first and was $69.95. (That seems to be the price for all ink anymore) I came home and orders the number from Amazon. Got it but it fits in fine and can hear it connect to printer but will not print. Also seems to get hot. So packed it up to return to them today.  These a refurnished ones and paid $28. Suppose will have to buy a new printer. 2 other companies still have the cartridge toner types. Has on on sale for $79 but again it had a sign on it saying ink $69.95.  More and more things are coming out as Throw away items. Crazy. Even the salesman says that people just buy a new printer every time run out of ink.

Jeanne, I've gotten into a bad habit of not getting dressed until late morning, but I do get dressed before noon.  I find too much on the computer to read.

I have had my last PT session.  I felt I was not improving so told my therapist I would not be back.  He understood.  I think my age is against me; there must be a limit as to when muscles react to exercises.  I have three exercises I can do and I'll try to do them, maybe not daily, but often.

It is trying to snow, not hard, and we may have some on the ground in the morning and after that, the Weather Channel says no snow for the rest of the week.  I think March came in here like a lamb, but I can see where in the East it came in like a lion.

Mary Ann - Sounds like a a fun birthday party coming up next Sunday, and also a practical gift for Alicia.  I watched a show on HGTV recently, that was about buying a home in Holland, right on the lakeshore. The beach there, looked just beautiful, with lots of activity going on.  Not only swimmers, but paddle boats, sailing, and lots of people on the sand, enjoying the sun.   It reminded me of beaches here in California.  I think the show was, Beachfront Bargain Hunt, or maybe Lakeshore Living?  If I see it coming up again on my Guide, I’ll let you know.

Mary Ann

Marilyn, I watch the HGTV shows occasionally and while I haven't caught the one for Holland, I have seen some interesting locations and not all of them are too expensive.  I had a cottage at a small lake near here for 16 years.  I kept it a few  years after my dad died, but my house was hot all summer because it was closed up during the day and weekend (I was working then) and I finally sold the cottage.  My dad really enjoyed it and I know that's the reason I had it built.

I have an idea church friends of James and Alicia will also be at the party Sunday and the girls will be the star attractions.

I sent a birthday wish to the boy in California who celebrated his first birthday last Sunday and his dad said they had gone to a nearby park for a party.  The boy enjoyed the party.  He is a month younger than the twin girls.

Hi everybody.  I have been offline for the past week.  I had to take my computer in cuz I couldn't turn it on.  They said the button was stuck.  Was gonna cost me over $100 to fix it, so I went and bought me a new computer.  Been having a rough time getting things back in place.  First I couldn't get the CD to install my printer thing, & then I couldn't install my Quicken info.  Had to go back to the store & they fixed the Disc thing so it would work.  So, everything seems to be back in place.  Then when I came in here, I was a visitor & had to sign in.  Well, I had written down my password, but I could not remember the name I went by.  But, thru trial and error, I am finally set up.  Geesh, what a time.  Through all of that, my RA (hand arthritis) flared up & had a hard time typing.  Hopefully I am back to normal.  I missed you all, & I sure hope I didn't miss anything in here.

shirleyn.

Hi Everyone.  After a very rainy day yesterday we are in for a nice clear sunny day which will only get up to about 57 this afternoon.  My plans for yesterday changed as by the time I left the dentists office I know I needed to wait until today to do the shopping at Costco.  Unfortunately at the dentist they found a small cavity that I get filled next month.  Yesterday evening Pat made a delicious French Onion soup for our dinner.  It called for a cup of wine but we didn't have that in the house so she used a cup of my breakfast cranberry raspberry drink and it made a delicious soup.  She used homemade croutons and three different cheese on top of the soup that was put under the broiler to melt the cheese.  This morning Scott is coming over to go with me to Costco and he is a big help and will carry in the purchases from the car when we get home.  This evening we are having fried chicken, potato salad, coleslaw and a dessert at our Wednesday night dinner at Church.  This is always a favorite meal.

Today we are going to have delivered the 7 new slide out shelves that will complete our lower cabinets and one for under Pat's side of the sink.  Hopefully Scott will feel up to installing part of them this evening when they come out after dinner.  We are also expecting delivery of the new telephone I ordered for Pat.  I put on a nitro patch this morning for the first time.  I am hoping it will help with the chest and arm pressure and discomfort and not give me a headache as the patches have when I used to have them applied while in the hospital.  Those were always applied on my upper chest and my cardiologist told me to apply them on my upper thigh so will see how that works out.

Bubble, nice to see you and Don are having some good weather over your way.  After a very warm February here we are now having cooler days and nights.

Mary Ann, glad you were able to save money on the Turbo Tax program.  I have never used Turbo Tax but know that many people do.  I actually have a pretty simple tax return but can't use the short form.  Will you be attending the birthday party on Sunday?

Marilyne, we all should really practice water conservation as it is such a precious resource that we can't exit without.  We really waste a lot of water in watering our yards.  Did you get a notice that your Costco was going to close the Photography counter?  We got notice that it will close I think at the end of the month in our store.  I hate it as that is where I was able to get the ink cartridges refilled for my HP printer that Pat uses.  I haven't seen any fresh chicken soup in our Costco.

Sandy, I have never really watched any of the so called reality shows but the one you mention sounds pretty bad.   Glad to see that things are well with you.

Patricia, you are certainly doing a community service to help those in need in your apartment building with mail and food delivery to their apartments.

deAngel, hope you have the hatches battened down for the storm in your area today.  I  think it will be hitting where my great grandchildren live in upstate New York as they are not very far from Albany.  Sorry to see that Best Buy is giving you a hassle on the ink.  Could you order it for delivery by mail?  Numerous times I have gotten ink that way.

JeanneP, I hope you were able to get to the library yesterday.  Most nights Pat and I turn off the TV at 8 pm as there usually isn't anything on that interests us.  Sorry that you are having such problems getting your print cartridge to print.  I know that is very frustrating.

Shirley, glad to see you back online.  What brand of computer did you get and is it a laptop or desktop model?  It does take time to reinstall everything.  Anymore most computers are eliminating the CD-ROM drive and you just search online for the software you need such as getting the programs needed for a printer.  Glad you were able to figure out how to get back in this site.  I always keep track of my username and password on sites in my Last Pass program.

Shirley, I'm glad you were able to get back here.  It is no fun having to reconstruct everything when you get a new computer.

Larry, I'm sorry your dentist found a cavity this time.  When I was young, I had cavities galore because I had soft teeth.  I know I brushed regularly, but probably not as good as I should have.  I think our township water comes from wells but the city of Grand Rapids gets most of their water from Lake Michigan.  Yes, I will be going to the birthday party Sunday.  Tom has ordered our gift from Amazon and it should be here before the weekend.

Tom has been out driving but found things slow so he didn't stay out long.  We had snow overnight and I see by radar we should have snow much of the day but not much accumulation.

Mary Ann

angelface555

Good morning from the Interior! We will still have some snow and wind with the temperatures in the twenties and thirties through Friday the sixteenth. I think its safe to say that any thaw will last through April and into early May with all the snow we've received. It certainly isn't our usual February with a severe cold.

Larry, I don't see it as any service. I'm here so why not. Hopefully, if I need something, somebody will be there for me when I need it.

MaryAnn, enjoy the party! I read an article yesterday that said if you want to raise a child with good coping skills, let that child play alone more with less structured play to develop his imagination and cognitive skills. It is also a good idea to only step in with help after every attempt by the child or children has failed. This also helps to develop reasoning and coping skills that many adults lack.

Farrah has been clingy for some reason. I think she feels I should shove my classes and pay her more attention. I need to clean out her ears, and that will certainly be interesting! I asked the vet about products he recommended since he determined it wasn't ear mites.

He told me he could support several but actually, I could just use one part white vinegar to one part water. He said don't pour it into her ears, use a moistened cotton ball, no Q-tips and no peroxide or alcohol as that could burn her delicate ears. Some folks use small amounts of olive oil instead of vinegar with a clean cotton ball for a warm water rinse. Always remembering to use small amounts of liquid, only moisten, not drench.

Mary Ann

Patricia, I wish I was close enough and young enough to participate in the nurturing of the twin girls.  They are the only ones close enough as the boy is in California.  The older girl is near Lansing MI and is further away than the twins.

I'll have to tell Annie about the solution for cleaning cat's ears.  I don't do anything like that because Annie comes often enough that she can perform such duties.  She also cuts Kendrick's nails.

My therapist yesterday asked about Kendrick and I told him how he got his name.  The therapist was very amused because the cat was named Kendrick for Kendrick Lamar, a current singer, who defintely is not a favorite of mine (I know only that he is a popular singer) - not of my era.  The therapist found it amusing that a 93-year-old woman would have a cat named for a popular/current singer.  I think so too.

Tom and I went to Boulder Creek Country Club for lunch today and we both had soup and salad; not the same salad for us, but tomato soup we both had.

My arm is killing me.

Grand Haven has whitecaps.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Cleaning a cats ears and cutting their nails is a new one on me??  I never did either with Winnie, or any of my other cats over the years.  I do know people who clip the nails on their cats, but I guess I always assumed they were getting worn down enough on the various scratching devices.  As for the ears?  Unless there was an infection, I can't imagine why anyone would take on that chore?   If it really needed to be done for the cats health, I would pay the vet to do it correctly.  I had Springer Spaniel dogs, and their long floppy ears would pick up burrs and foxtail weeds outside, so we would have to take them to the vet to have the ears cleaned out and disinfected.

Marilyne, while a vet would want to check first for a parasite such as ear mites which require revolution or other animal meds, cleaning a cat's ears is necessary if they are prone to thick wax buildup which can damage their hearing and even cause infections or scale. It depends on the cat if needed. The vet felt Farrah needed it and showed me how. He charges $75.00 if he does it. Some cats also need trimming of matted or dirty hair around the ears. A vet doesn't always do an ear cleaning and if they do, it is an expensive task that you can do at home.

Inside cats may enjoy using a scratching post (or your furniture!), however they do not scratch on trees etc. to shed their nails, and their claws may become overgrown. Because a cat's claws are retractable, they are protected when the cat walks and will become very sharp unless they are trimmed regularly.  From Vetstreet:  "So why nip the tips? It makes life more comfortable for both you and your cat. If you have one of those cats who need to knead you â€" and who pokes those sharp tips into your skin â€" you know what I’m talking about.

Taking off the very end of those claws will make this loving gesture something you can enjoy, rather than dread. For your cat, clipping his tips can prevent painfully broken claws that can result when a sharp tip gets caught in the carpet. And yes, having those claws a little less lethal will reduce the damage should your fashion-conscious cat decide to give the corner of your sofa a hip new “distressed” look."

Larry, I got an HP laptop.  The guy at the store also told me about downloading off the internet.  Didn't know that.  Of course I do not think Quicken would do that, as they sell their programs.  I really needed to have that downloaded.  And yes, I keep a large file of usernames and passwords, but my info for this site I only had the password.  I guess I thought I could remember the username.  Geesh!

Mary Ann, we thought of you and Norm last week - went to the Goodson Farms for strawberry shortcakes.  Mmmmm, goooood!!

Marilyne and Angel, I never messed with our pet animals ears either.  Back in the day, I do not think anybody did.

shirleyn.

Marilyne

Mary Ann - Sorry to hear that your arm is hurting.  I hope that it calms down, now that your PT treatments are finished.  I didn't know that Kendrick, was named after a pop singer! 8)  I've never heard of Kendrick Lamar, either, but I don't know any of the musicians out of Annie's generation. My youngest grandchild is Annie's age, 22, so I'll have to ask her if she knows who he is.

Patricia - I was fortunate, in that none of my cats ever scratched the furniture. Probably because they all went outside during the day.  Winnie always stayed in the backyard, but there is a huge redwood tree out there, as well as a telephone pole that he could scratch.  He was not a climber, so did not attempt to climb smaller trees or go over the fence.  Now that I'm thinking about it, I recall that the spaniels did have a lot of ear troubles, that required a visit to the vet.  After whatever it was, was removed or treated, the vet would give me a spray style bottle of something, and I would have to lift the hanging ear flap, and spray inside the ear, then drop the flap and gently massage the ear.  That's about the only home treatment that I can ever remember doing with any of my pets.  I hope that Farrah's ears are okay, and that she won't need to be cleaned or treated at home.

Mary Ann

Shirley - Goodson Farms - Strawberry malts, Sundaes and Cuban sandwiches.  Yummy.  That may be the only thing I miss about Florida.  The only reason I went down was to visit Norm and Dot.  But when I did go down, Goodson Farms was a must!  I called Dot today to ask her to go to lunch with Tom and me but she did not answer the phone.  I know one Wednesday in a month she has a book club so this must have been the Wednesday.

Marilyn - I watched TV for an hour and my arm calmed down.  I also was able to nap so I did not feel the pain then.  I will never be without pain and the PT would not have eased that.  The purpose was to increase the strength in my right arm but the treatments increased the pain instead.  Maybe next week I'll try my exercises to see how I get along.  I still can only lift my right arm to shoulder height.  I don't do much microwaving - usually warm something up - but I can only put something light in and only with my left hand.  I can manage a cup or a plate but nothing heavier.  I have a Spacesaver Microwave which is above my range and if that would fail, I would get a countertop microwave, but I don't expect that to happen.  If I'd quit using my right arm, I'd have less pain, but I'm very right handed - so!!!

Kendrick does scratch one ear occasionally and when Annie is here, I have her look at it.  She has taken a que tip to the ear, gently, but really has done nothing.

Speaking of Annie, she and her SO went to Mexico to the tip of the Baja Peninsula.  They got back Sunday and Annie came down with a cold, which is not unusual when you change climates.  I forgot to ask Tom if he'd heard from her today.  She keeps pretty close contact with her dad.

We have snow and probably will get more overnight, but nothing like New England is getting.

Mary Ann

MarsGal

Good morning. Today will stay mostly in the 30s, possibly getting up just over 40. The sky outside my window is mostly clear right now with a lovely view of the half moon in line with Jupiter, Mars, and Saturn, not to mention Antares a bit below the moon.

As for nails, Oscar and Shan both get their nails clipped so that they do less damage to me and furniture. They have lots to play with and plenty of scratch pads, but Shan likes to take flying leaps at me or tackle my feet. It is a good thing he is such a breeze to clip his nails. Oscar, on the other hand, likes to scratch the rug, my recliner (only if I am in it. What's that all about?), and when he launches off my lap can dig in a bit. He is never happy to get his nails clipped. Oscar also is prone to a yeast infection in his ears, so I occasionally use a product (forget the name) that the vet used. He does not like any fussing around with his ears or face. Lucy gets her nails clipped on occasion and doesn't usually fuss. Oh, something George figured out when he clips his five cats' nails is that they seem to be more aggressive when their nails are long and sharp. I think he may be right, but it is hard to tell because the nails grow back so fast, especially Shan's.

MarsGal

I am just reading my local online newspaper and was almost speechless after reading a very short article about an incident at school involving a local six year old boy. Someone reported he was using "violent" hand actions towards the "victim" who was not identified. The incident is being investigated as a terrorist threat.

Well, kids do pick up things they see and imitate them. The area where this happened is still rather rural as far as I know (haven't been up that way in a few years). The county used to be and still does take the butt end of local snobby jokes about being redneck or "hicksville" territory, lots of farms and little industry. The suburbs are slowly encroaching. So, is the kid acting out something he saw at home or something he saw on TV?

This is truly sad.

Hi Everyone. We woke up to a really chilly morning and we had a freeze last night.  Today we will get only into the low 50's but it is a nice sunny and clear day with no wind.  The only thing on the agenda for today is to go to coffee.  The old fellow I pick up to go to coffee with me celebrated his 88th birthday last night and everyone at the dinner sang Happy Birthday to him.  His daughter had brought in cupcakes and he called me over to his table and shared one with me and one for Pat although Scott actually ate here.  Later today I think Pat and I go and both have hair cuts. We did have a nice dinner last night at the Church.  The fried chicken was very tasty.

Scott has a new tenant for his apartment at the back of his house and I invited him to come and have dinner with us and then he came out for the evening and played Farkle with Pat and Jennifer while Scott put in a couple of the shelves.  In the other cabinets the top shelf is removable which makes putting in the bottom sliding shelf fairly easy.  However, the ones he worked on last night had the top shelf permanently attached so the bottom shelf was very difficult.  After he had installed it we found that it was too wide and I should have gotten one not as wide.  So that one will come out and we will use it in the bathroom.  Pat did get her new phone and it is really nice as has big numbers and a larger screen on the front.  She can also answer and end a call without opening the lid and it has three present numbers.  I think she is really going to like it and it is red, which is what she wanted.

Mary Ann, I have had many fillings and crowns done over the years.  I brush and floss daily and my teeth haven't need any repair for 18 months or so.  Sure hope your arm is feeling better today.

Patricia, you are not giving yourself enough credit as when you are helping others you are certainly being of service to your fellow human beings at least in my way of thinking. Good luck on cleaning out Farrah's ears. I agree I would find a way to do it myself rather than have to pay $75.

Marilyne, your mentioning burrs brought back memories of like on the farm and dealing with the burrs.  We always had short haired dogs so don't remember them having much problem with them but know they would really stick to cloths or socks. Like you I have never heard of Kendrick Lamar.  I guess we are in the wrong generation to listen that type of singer

MarsGal, it sounds like your pets can keep you pretty busy grooming them. We have never had more than one pet at a time.  I hardly think a six year old is a terrorist threat.  Is there no reason left in this world.  I agree that is a sad story.

Shirley, I haven't checked but I expect you could download the latest version of Quicken but would have to pay in advance and probably get a link to use to download it that would have your serial number of the product embedded.  I usually use my email address as my user name on sites.

Mary Ann

MarsGal, I agree with Larry that the 6-year-old is not a terrorist threat.  He might be misbehaving, but I doubt he knows what terrorism is.

Larry, I had not heard of Kendrick Lamar until Annie named the cat for him.  Last fall a few of us went to the Gerald R Ford Museum downtown and they were having an exhibit of pop singers and he was one.  I did recognize the name when I saw it.  I don't think I've ever heard of anything by him; I'm so sheltered!!!

Radar looks like we'll have more snow today, and we haven't had much, then it looks clear to the west of us.  What was interesting to me was that our highs all week will be in the 30s and the lows will be in the 20s.  I know that both of those can change at the drop of a hat.

Larry, is Pat's new phone a Jitterbug?  I see them advertised for older people, telling they are easy to use and they have larger numbers than others.

It looks like Lake Michigan is almost free of ice (I see some by the pier) and someone is walking a dog along the shore.

Mary Ann

Johann Mc

Good morning, Friends!  Not sure when I was here last but always think of you al when I am watching the weather reports.

Things have been really busy here since Christmas.  Windell woke up on Christmas with pain in his back and left leg.  Took us two weeks to get to an orthopedic doctor for backs and an MRI showed that he has a slipped disc in his lower spine pressing on a nerve in his left leg.  He had his third epidural shot yesterday and is feeling much better today but I don't know how long it will last.  So I have been doing just about everything around the house since then and he doesn't drive so I have to get him where he needs to go.  We have to get a fasting blood draw tomorrow morning for his four-month check up with his family doctor next week.

Almost hate to say that the weather has been beautiful here since Feb. 1st.  My azaleas are starting to bloom and the pollen is starting to blow.  Wish I could send some of this to those of you who have been having snow and ice.

I haven't had time to go back and catch up on previous posts.  Mary Ann, I did see where you are having pain in your arm and I am so sorry!  My left knee is acting up a little again (not much cartilege) but I take a Tylenol in the mornings and keep going.

My granddaughter in Pensacola was 16 on 3/1 and has been acting in a school Shakespeare company.  She recently tried out for a role in a community production of Little Women and was selected for the role of Jo.  I used to love that book and we are so proud of her!

Larry, it won't be long until the Master's Tournament in your area again.  Where does time go?

Patricia, I noticed that the Iditarod is in progress again also.  God bless the dogs who run it!

Really got to go and do some grocery shopping!  Hope you all have a wonderful day and rest of the week.  So happy to go back on Daylight time this weekend!

Mary Ann

Johann, it is so good to hear from you.  It interested me that you have had good weather because I thought I saw where you had a lot of rain.  I'm glad I was wrong.

I have arthritis in my right shoulder and that has given me pain.  I went for therapy but I felt that wasn't doing any good so I quit this past Tuesday.  I think my age is against me.  If I sit perfectly still and do nothing, the arm doesn't hurt, but I don't sit that still.  I have no trouble sleeping!

Congratulations to your granddaughter and her role in Little Women.  It is so long ago that I read that story that I've forgotten all about it.

I hope Windell is getting along OK - also that you are doing well.

It is getting time for me to get dressed.  Besides reading a few folders in S&F, I read news articles on Windows 10 and they take time.  There are all sorts of articles, some opinions and some "good news"  So it often is nearly noon before I am dressed for the day.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Johann Mc - Good to see you!  It's been a while, and I hope that you check in again before long.  Sorry that Windell has the slipped disc, but sounds like the epidural shots are working?

shirleyn - good to have you back too!  I dread any kind of computer trouble, because I really rely on my computer to keep me tuned in to friends and family. If I had to do without, I would be lost. I know I should get an smart phone, but I keep putting it off.

Larry - How nice of you to invite your son's new tenant to have dinner with the family!  It sounds like he was happy to  join right in with the Farkle game!  I'm interested in Pat's phone? What brand is it?

Mary Ann - Annie is fortunate, that her boy friend likes to travel, and always includes her. You have mentioned a number of interesting places where they have vacationed in the past year.  The Baja Peninsula, would be a long plane ride from Michigan.

Mary Ann

Marilyn, Annie works for her SO and they are open seven days a week.  It is a hydro company and I know very little about it, but they cannot be gone long, maybe three or four days.  They had this last trip in mind, but the return flight was to take 17 hours and that was out.  They had to wait until they could find a decent return flight.  I think they were gone from either Tuesday or Wednesday until Sunday.

Mary Ann

Hi guys & gals.  It has been a busy day today for me.  Of course it is line dance, which is always busy.  After breakfast & kitchen clean up, I usually give Danny his weekly haircut & trim his beard.  Bad habit I got into - not been trained in that area, but I kinda learned by doing.  Then, of course, I get myself cleaned up & dressed kinda nicer than every day dress.  But this day I had to run to the doctors office for a shot in the butt.  My Rheumatoid Arthritis has been flaring up & after taking a weeks worth of prednisone, which didn't take the pain away, he wanted me up to the office for a shot.   Can't remember a shot of what - if I don't write it down, I forget it.  Anyway, I was told no walking or exercising - which meant no dancing.  Sigh!  We went anyway, just for the social part of it.

Mary Ann, when you do see or talk to Dot, tell her she was in our thoughts as we went to the strawberry farm.

Larry, I also use my email address as my username, but for some unknown reason I did not do that in here.  Of course that was so many years ago, who knows what I was thinking back then.  I have about 4 pages of hand written (or scribbled) sites for usernames and passwords.

Johann, so good to see your post in here.  I think of you often.  Whenever we talk about our cruises, we remember how you showed us around your beautiful city and area.

Marilyne, I am also lost without my computer.  It is usually my only contact with the outside world.  I just had 3 or 4 days without.  Talk about an ugly bear.   :tickedoff:  And I also do not have smart phone - just a dumb one.

Well, I think this catches me up once again.

shirleyn

Does anyone remember how to disable the touchpad.  I know I had this problem with the last computer & I know it was rather simple, but I do not remember the procedure.

Hi Everyone.  It is another beautiful sunny day here and headed into the low 60's this afternoon.  I have an eleven am appointment this morning for my semi-annual pacemaker check.  It is a very quick check.  On my way I plan on stopping off at Costco to drop off the ink cartridge to have it filled and then will stop back by on the way home from my appointment to pick it up.  I will grab a bite to eat while there.  This is the day for the housekeeper so we might go out for our main meal sometime this afternoon. I did get a haircut yesterday and Pat is going this morning and the stylist she likes wasn't there yesterday but it today.

I watched a lot of basketball yesterday afternoon late and last evening.  I plan on doing the same today.  This is the weekend for the Conference Playoffs.  I see our South Carolina University team lost their game.  It was a late game so I didn't watch it. I just fixed Pat her breakfast and used our new toaster oven for the first time to make a piece of toast.  Initially I couldn't understand why it wasn't heating and then realized I hadn't plugged it in.  We don't like to keep this type of appliance plugged in all the time so usually unplug it after use.

Mary Ann, no Pat's new phone isn't a Jitterbug but has some very nice features including a red button on the top that is preprogrammed to send a text and call if she needed help.  If the first person doesn't respond it goes to the next number.  We put in my number first and a couple of others.  So if I am out of the house she could just push the button and I would be notified.  It also has three preprogrammed buttons that she really likes as most of her calls are to her sister or me or Scott and she just opens the phone and presses on of theme and the call is made.  It also has large button to put in a telephone number and other features including a larger display on the front of the phone.  I had never heard of this brand.  It is a Voca V530 model.  It is designed for seniors and has good volume.  It is basically the size of the small clamshell phones.  One advantage of this over the Jitterbug is that there is no additional monthly charge besides what we pay.  I understand that with a Jitterbug there is a monthly charge and the phone is a lot bigger.

Johann, It has been awhile since I read one of your interesting posts so glad to see you were able to post yesterday.  Glad to read that Windell had to suffer for two weeks to get into see the doctor but glad that he is responding to the shots.  It sounds like you do have your hands full.  I am hopeful that the azaleas here and the flowering trees, including the peach trees, were not damaged by the short freeze we had two nights ago and then again last night.  February was a very pleasant month here as well.  Your granddaughter must be a talented author.  Little Women was my grandmothers favorite fiction book and I think she read it many times.  Things are underway and will pick up speed in the next three weeks in preparation for the huge Master's Tournament.  It is a time not to be going to Augusta.

Marilyne, like you and others hear I really rely on my computers to keep my mind active and posting here and a couple of other places along with reading emails gives me a reason to look forward to each morning.  Then the afternoons after a couple of hours of resting are for primarily games and puzzles and reading with a little television watching, although I seldom just sit and watch TV.  I can't envision my life ever again without a smart phone as use it a lot everyday.  I keep it with me at all times, read books on it and listen to audio books on it and can do basically all that I can do on the computer, including having an app on it to watch the Dish programs we get on our television regardless of where I am. As you see, I basically answered your question about Pat's new phone in my response to Mary Ann.  It isn't a smart phone but is very versatile.   Pat had a smart phone but it was too frustrating for her and so went back to the regular type phone.  Scott's new tenent is friend of Jennifer's and I doubt we see much of him.  He is a line cook and already has some good job offer leads and has his own car.

ShirleyN, you save a lot of money by giving Danny a haircut and trimming his beard.  I usually get a haircut about every six weeks or perhaps a little longer.  I was pretty shaggy when I had it cut yesterday.  I don't have a beard so that is not a problem.  Sorry to hear that your Rheumatoid Arthritis has been flaring up.  I also don't use my email address for these discussion.  For a number of years I used a little Daytimer type notebook to record my user names and passwords and other information but that became a problems as it got very messy with changes or added sites and so I have used Last Pass for many years and they are available to me from anywhere with just using one master password.  Do a Google search on how to disable the touchpad using the computer name and model of your laptop.  If all else fails, cut a pieces of heavy cardboard or is the touchpad isn't too big use some old gift cards or grocery type discount card and a little piece of tape along the sides and over the touchpad.  I have used that technique often and it works well.  My current laptop touchpad can be disable in the control panel settings.

Mary Ann

Hi Shirley, good to hear from you.  As Larry said, he can disable his touchpad via the Control Panel.

I do the same thing - In Control Panel, click on the mouse/touchpad site.  If the touchpad itself is shown, there should be a box or line to disable the touchpad.  Click on that, then Apply, then OK and that should do it.  I have Windows 10, but I have been able to disable the touchpad with Windows 7 also.  Good luck!

The sun is trying to shine here, but our temperature is only about 30 degrees.  For the next week, our highs are to be in the mid-30s until next Thursday when we will be over 40 degrees.  After having been in the high 50s, the 30s are kind of a set-back.

Good morning from the interior! We've had highs in the twenties and thirties and lows in the teens with a lot of humidity. The weather outlook says the same through the sixteenth at least. This has been an unusual winter for us this year.

Farrah has become quite demanding of late. She prefers her morning and evening routines and doesn't like surprises. I purchased a puzzle box for her that you may change about in severity. Each morning I place her kibble in it for her to work on getting it out. It is simply a box with ridges and valleys inside and the outside has various side holes but she has to work at getting her food. Once she becomes familiar with it, it is time to change it again. This type of activity is good for her prey instinct, keeps it healthy which is good for her.

Thank you Larry for the kind words. I guess I'm so used to this, my family did the same as their neighbors and friends did for them, that I don't think of it as a service. I would hope that if I progressed to those type of issues that someone would do the same for me.  I'm surprised that more of them don't have computers and I have suggested it to them but they prefer their televisions and cable. One lady's "smart" television functions similar to a computer however with television shows rather than email and websites.

My vet was the one who suggested the self cleaning of Farrah's ears and told me how to do it.

MaryAnn, Annie sounds like a hard worker and she is getting quite an education with all of this travel to different areas. It's nice that she is close to her father. I looked up Kendrick Lamar and he is evidently a rapper who is doing more with jazz and blues while working with Herbie Hancock.

Shirleyn, I'm sorry to hear of your pain. I have osteoarthritis which in my case is very attuned to changes in barometric pressure. There were days last week that I spent hunched over with a good heating pad by my hip at all times! My mother had the same while my father had rheumatoid arthritis, especially in his hands.

Johann, it is very nice to see your post again! Yes, the race is on again and we have several Europeans in the race again this year and several women which is also nice. For those of you unfamiliar with the race, The Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race is an annual long-distance sled dog race run in early March from Willow to Nome, entirely within the US state of Alaska. Mushers and a team of 16 dogs, of which at least 5 must be on the towline at the finish line, cover the distance in 8â€"15 days or more with a mandatory 24 hour layover in the village of Iditarod.

Shirleyn, I am also having issues with my touch pad. I have it turned off and it still shows it turned off but something has reactivated it and I will find parts of my sentences in the midst of other sentences which is frustrating. I wish there was a way to delete it altogether!

You can look for the touch pad in your settings or if it is shown in your task bar under hidden icons next to your time and date stamp, you can rightclick on it and bring up its settings. My touch pad has three separate areas to turn off so you might want to watch for that. I think my newest issue is more Microsoft's issue than my computer's.

Interesting must read article;

"Our phones have truly become the new personal computer for many of us â€" in addition to being our primary means of communication we can watch movies, play games and now even enjoy virtual reality experiences on our handsets. But while smartphones are the epitome of modern convenience, the dirty little secret is that these omnipresent devices, which we have with us 24/7, and keep switched on for most of that time, are also a serious threat to our privacy. Here’s why…"

Hi Everyone. The morning is starting out very nicely with sunshine and the temperature in the 40's.  I expect we will get to 70 this afternoon but the forecast says mostly cloudy all day long.  The only thing I plan on doing today is attending a meeting this morning and then sometime this afternoon or early evening Pat are going to go out for our main meal.  We got a coupon yesterday for Ruby Tuesdays that if you bought one entree at regular price you could get a free burger.  That may be an offer too good to  pass off up we won't make that decision until it is time to go to eat.  I had a very busy morning yesterday as I stopped at Costco and dropped off the ink cartridge and then drove to the doctor's office and got there just at the time of my appointment.  However, the tech didn't call me back until about 11:30.  All was fine with my pacemaker/defibrillator.  The tech, a very pleasant young fellow, took the time to explain and show me on the monitor what they look for and what it means, which really was never done before in the 13 years I have had one of these devices.  It showed I still have 2.4 years of battery life before the device will have to be replaced.  When I left there I went back to Costco and picked up the ink cartridge and then went over to the food court and had lunch.  After resting I spent the rest of the day and early evening watching the college basketball games.  Today is the semi-finals of the tournaments so will be watching more this afternoon.

Yesterday Scott sent a text saying the house next to his was burning to the ground.  Other than getting some smoke in his house and losing part of his fence between the properties his property wasn't bothered.  I was sure glad the wind wasn't blowing yesterday.

Patricia, you do keep Farrah challenged.  She is a lucky cat to have you are her owner.  Where I was growing up on the farm the neighbors helped each other whether tending crops or putting up hay and other things that needed to be done.  Most of the neighbors liked play cards and so we would either entertain them or they would us and the folks played cards, usually Pitch or Canasta.  I never say any money on the table it was just for the fun of it and the visiting that could occur.  I saw on the news that the Iditarod race had begun.  I am not aware of any way to delete the touchpad software as it is a built in part of Windows.  The read the article you linked.  I still am not ready to give up my iPhone.  I am not concerned that data on my shopping habits may be tracked and if anyone wants to listen to what is said around me they need to get a life as it isn't exciting.

Marilyne

Good morning:  I'm hoping that turning the clock forward tonight, might trigger some Spring weather?  We are still cool and dreary here, with more light rain predicted for next week.

We're planning a long drive on Tuesday, to visit some friends of ours who live about 60 miles from us.  We've been putting it off, waiting for better driving weather, but I'm getting anxious, so we will likely go, come rain or come shine.  (Hmmmm - Isn't that the name of an old song by Johnny Mercer?)

Nothing on the agenda this weekend. I will likely watch a movie this afternoon, as there are a couple of Academy Award winners, that are available on my Comcast TV.  I've already seen three of the winners, and still have one more to watch.  Also Sharks Hockey today, so AJ will record that game and watch it tonight . . . or vice-versa?

Larry - On Thursday, we got one of the ready to eat Costco roasted chickens.  After having it for dinner two nights in a row, we still have half of the chicken left!  Those birds are HUGE, and very tender and tasty.  How do they do it for only $4.99?  (Maybe I don't want to know? ha ha)

I join you all in your complaint of osteoarthritis.  It's mainly my hands that are a total mess.  Fingers are twisted every-which-way, and the little finger on my right hand no longer bends.  I have to physically push it down.  I long ago had to give up knitting, and simple sewing tasks like replacing a button on a shirt.  Completely impossible to accomplish!  The thing that is the most annoying, is that I drop just about everything that I pick up.  Slides right through my fingers, and onto the floor!  I have to keep a "grabber" handy at all times to pick things back up. ::)
