Good morning from the Interior!

Gloria, I am so glad to see you back posting again and please thank Keith for keeping us informed and especially for being there for you!

Thanks, Gloria and Larry for the comments on my card! I am Irish, (green); on my mother's side and Scot/Welsh on my father's, so a third of me is celebrating today!

It's warmer today, and I have to leave soon to deliver those food boxes, so I'll just hope everyone has a good day!

MarsGal

Lucy came home from the Vet this morning with ear drops with cortisone in them. The vet couldn't find anything except a very minor amount of ear wax and a slight redness in one ear. She also gave me instructions for another anti-histamine to try on the cats if the Children's Liquid Benadryl doesn't work out well. She wasn't at all happy with me for taking her to the Vet. Usually she is a bit more accommodating, but this morning I had to chase her down.

Otherwise, things are pretty quiet here for the weekend. I may just start going through more boxes, cabinets and drawers to see what else I can get rid of that I no longer need or use. I am sure I have more kitchenware I won't ever use anymore since I prefer to use the microwave or slow cooker. Since I don't oven bake anymore, there is really no sense in keeping old metal pie, cake and loaf pans. Kitchen space is such a premium that I have a bunch of stuff sitting on my kitchen table. I really could use new cabinets and more counter space. New windows and stormdoors must come first.

BEWARE!

I received today two mails:
one from Norm Tock - sent from an address in Japan;
the second from so_P_bubble, also from Japan.

Someone must have gotten into my address book!

Please check addresses before opening

Hi Everyone.  It looks like it is going to be a very nice Sunday here in South Carolina with sun and getting up to about 75 degrees this afternoon.  I am ready for Sunday School and Church.  I have emptied the dish washer and in a few minutes will fix Pat's breakfast and my own.  Beyond Church and getting something out for lunch my only plan for the rest of the day is to watch some more of the basketball games.  I saw some really good ones yesterday as a number of the games were very close.  It was evening before I started feeling better yesterday and got up feeling OK this morning. However, I was able to finish up and file our income taxes yesterday.

Mary Ann, I agree that these tax programs are worth what we pay to use them.

Mary Ann and Joan, I just saw an article in our local newspaper where a doctor from one of the hospitals was offering some advice and caution on over drinking yesterday and one of them was that we are fortunate to now have the Uber type services so people don't have to drive if they over-indulge.  I have no idea whether Augusta closes off its main street for the day beyond the parade.

Sandy, it would be a real problem to remove cheese from our diet as we use a lot of it in cooking and on sandwiches.  Is your area in line with the snow expected in the NE in a couple of days?

Jean, I read something about one of the Senators introducing a bill to have the country just stay on DST.  I have no idea whether such a bill would pass or not. I just wish they would leave it one way or the other.

Marilyne, staying home on St. Pat's day isn't a bad idea.  I feel the same way about New Year's Eve when it can be dangerous to be out on the road when there are drivers on the road who have over imbibed. I want to know what is going on in the world but I don't need to be told the same thing fifteen times a day so try to limit my news watching to an hour or so with local and national news and then checking some news sites on the Internet but read very few of the articles beyond the first paragraph if that.

Joan, I just read an interesting article about the lack of a father influence in many families and the breakdown of discipline and increase in violence in our schools.  My son says there are a lot of people who come into the Pizza Hut and just let there children run wild and scream.  There is one group that the children take all the cracker packages from the salad bar and break them up and scatter them on the floor.  He said not long ago a child put his hand in every dish on the buffet and they had to close it down.  If children are given no boundaries why should we expect them to know what is acceptable behavior and often there are no consequences to their bad behavior.

Patricia, I hope the 1/3rd of you enjoyed your Irish celebration yesterday.  :)  I am also part Irish but don't own a piece of clothing that is green.

MarsGal, glad that the Vet found nothing seriously wrote with Lucy.  The only time our cat was ever in the car was to go to the Vet or the time we moved and he didn't like either one bit.  We have a lot of cabinets in our kitchen but they all seem to be filled.  We do keep a number of things out on the kitchen counters for ease of use when Pat is cooking.

Bubble, that is very frustrating but many of us have experienced the same thing over the years.  Thanks for alerting us.

wjoan

Larry, very true.   The problem gets worse as these children grow up and have children of their own.  It is hard to be a single parent, I know cuz I was one for years.  However I never allowed my children to act out.

Marilyne

wjoan & Larry - The behavior of young children in restaurants and other public places has become disgusting and uncontrollable here in California. Or so I have heard from my youngest daughter, and my son and wife, who eat out a lot. It's a problem here - even in the more expensive restaurants, that were once inhabited by couples or groups of adults only.  Now, young couples in their 20's and 30's, with babies and young children, go to the upscale places, and allow their kids to run wild, cry, and disrupt the entire place.  The same applies to movie theaters.  My daughter recently went on a date to a theater to see one of the Academy Award nominated movies.  It was an adult drama, of no interest to children.  Yet the place was filled with young parents and their young kids, who were running up and down the aisles, talking loud, crying, throwing popcorn, etc.  Times have changed!

wjoan

The storks got snowed on last night.  :(

Mary Ann

Dot and I did our thing this morning.  We had Tuna Melt and Coconut Cream pie.  We were there about an hour before we left to come home.

Tom drove a couple of times yesterday and did all right as an Uber driver.  He said it is such a sorry sight to see so many drunks, but on the other hand, the drunks did take Uber and did not drive for which he and we can be thankful.  He said it was quite a lucrative afternoon and he knew of some drivers who did better financially than he did.

Living in the most western part of ET I wish we'd stay on Standard time.  There's 1000 mile difference between NY and Maine and Michigan.  I think it isn't changing the time twice a year but changing clocks that bothers us.

Nap time.

Mary Ann

Good Sunday Afternoon,  Everyone,
from the chilly/cold rocky coast of Maine.

"Sandy, it would be a real problem to remove
cheese from our diet as we use a lot of it in cooking
and on sandwiches.  Larry

Cheese  has been the most difficult
food for me to illuminate from my diet.
As I,  like you Larry,  love CHEESE!
Of all kinds!!

But I have found out thru trial and error
that Dairy is a big part of my dreaded
rash problem.      No Dairy,  No Rash.

That pretty much says it all.
And yes,  I do miss the cheese,
all cheeses,  but not the rashes.

These days I have learned to just do
what I find out works well,  and
try not to fret over it.   Not EASY!!!!!

"Is your area in line with the snow
expected in the  NE in a couple of
days?"    Larry

I believe that more snow is
headed in our direction   (North East)
but it looks like we might get lucky
and have it go "out to sea" below
us on the East Coast.

I hope so, anyhow.    I am sick
of late Winter  plaguing us  here in
Maine.

 :frog:

Marilyne, once upon a time when I was a kid, in New Cumberland, there was a theater that was managed by a man who, if the kids got too rowdy, throwing things and racing the aisles, he would stop the movie and over the intercom, state that the movie would not start again until everyone settled down and behaved themselves. He also walked the aisles with a flashlight. When we moved to Mechanicsburg (I was about 14 then) my sister and I went to a Huckleberry Finn movie. The kids there were literally tearing up the place. You could barely hear the audio, the air was filled with flying popcorn and paper wads, the floor was sticky with gum and spilled drinks, and when the lights went on, you could see tufts of seat stuffing where the seats had been torn into. Needless to say, we never set foot in that theater again. The old theater in New Cumberland hung on for a long time, closed a while, was revived once or twice, but eventually closed permanently, not too many years ago. Many of us (from the comments I saw in the newspaper article of the permanent closing) mourned the loss of a childhood icon. I spent many a Saturday matinee there watching the likes of Ma and Pa Kettle, Abbot and Costello, Roy Rogers, and others. The very first evening movie I was allowed to go to without my parents was there. We saw the only movie Elvis ever did that he didn't sing on camera, Flaming Star. Thanks for stirring up the memories.

Good afternoon, beautiful day but cold and very windy.  While I am here, I also have one eye watch golf. It is near the end.

Larry as Sandy said and these children will grow up and have children. My DIL's were both single moms, but my grands always behaved when we went out.One day after supper Luke started to clean the table off, I said how much allowance do you get for doing this, his mother was at the sink and she turned he does not get paid for that, it is his duty. I know I am tooting  my own horn, but I am proud of their teenage years and now as adults.

MarsGal, I remember going to sat. Matinees  I do not know of any problems, if there was, there was a matron there to see that no on got out of line.  Of course this was in the "30s

MaryAnn and Larry, I too wish they would leave the time one way or another.

We used to go to the Fairmount Theater, later the Roxy (both were the same theater) and spent each Saturday afternoon there.  I don't recall any violence or misbehavior but I was of a different era - I'm older than many of you (not you, Gloria).  Those days you could go in at any time and leave at any time and stay as long as you could.  I think we belonged to the group who left when our beginning came around.

Tonight I watched some of Rick Steve's Holy Land.  I would have watched all of it if I had read my guide.  It was of the modern Holy Land and he discussed some of the political issues.  Rick was in Israel and Palestine and I think he did not go to surrounding countries.

We must have gotten up to 50 degrees today.  The sun shone all day and it was nice out.

I watched much of the Arnold Palmer International golf tour and Rory McIlroy won.  Tiger was about 8 strokes behind, but there were several players in between.

Hi Everyone.  I awoke to rain this morning and the weatherman is saying we may be in for some stormy weather soon.  I had a nice day yesterday.  Our Sunday School class has now donated $10,000 toward a needed new church bus.  We were $30 short and we agree to add the other $30 from our Sunshine Fund.  I enjoyed the afternoon and evening of basketball.  There were some good close games and some that were not close at all.  My agenda is clear for today.  I just discovered that our new Ring doorbell has been off line the last few day.  I am going to have to wait until Scott is here unless I can figure out how to remove it from the bracket that holds it.  I am not sure I am strong enough but probably just not doing something correctly.  I will see if I can find a video to show how to remove it.

Joan, I keep reading about how unhappy and disconnected the current generation of young people are and I certainly feel for them.  I know as I was growing up I never felt for one minute that my parents and grandparents didn't care greatly about what I did or didn't do and that they were always there for me.  Life is complicated.  It is obvious that you are a fine mother and your children love you dearly.

Marilyne, don't you wonder what the home life of these families that provide no discipline for their children must be like.  Perhaps the parents of these young children grew up in the same type of households.  When you could be arrested if you disciplined your child in public came into being I think things started to fall apart.  Times sure have changed as you said and not necessarily for the better.

Mary Ann, glad that Tom had a good afternoon driving.  Uber is a good service.  Has he had any of the drunks throwup in his car?

Sandy, we do what we have to do as you have had to do with cheese.  I sure would hate to have to give up sweets but know I could do it if I ever become diabetic.  I wouldn't like it but would do it.  After awhile these changes, like diet changes, before habits and it isn't so hard.  I was shocked to hear on our weather this morning that we may be in line for some hail but our temperatures are to stay warm so no threat of snow.

MarsGal, my son has told us on several occasions he has had to ask patrons to get their children under control or they would need to leave as the other guests were not able to enjoy their dining experience.  We had two movie theaters in the town close by us but as a child I really don't remember attending any movies as it was an expense my folks didn't have the money for.  When Pat and I were dating we did go to the movies fairly often and I never saw kids out of control or the theaters torn up.  Of course, we often went to the drive-in theater.  I loved the Ma and Pa Kettle movies but think I saw most of those on TV along with the Western movies and TV shows.

deAngel, I see that Rory McElroy really had a surge of great golf to end up winning the tournament yesterday.  I didn't watch any of it as was occupied with the basketball games.  We ate out many times as our children were growing up and learned the rules of behavior expected of them.  Thirteen or fourteen years ago we were visiting in Independence, Missouri and took our granddaughter and her soon to be ex-husband and two small children out to dinner at a Golden Corral.  The older baby was obviously very tired and was crying and screaming.  Finally Pat told the Father to take the child outside until he calmed down.  He did but got in their car and went home without a word.  At least we could enjoy the rest of the meal and the others in the restaurant weren't disturbed.  You have reason to be proud of your DIL's and grands.  I was raised knowing I had duties to perform.  I washed and dried a lot of dishes as well as the farm work as I was growing up and it sure didn't hurt me and taught me a great work ethic.

I have no idea whether the following story is true but it is a very touching story. It is a little long but I found it worthwhile and I agree with the beginning that having a tissue handy is probably a good idea.

The Folded Napkin Story
"By A Truck Stop Owner"

If this doesn't light your fire, your wood is wet!

I try not to be biased, but I had my doubts about hiring Stevie. His placement counselor assured me that he would be a good, reliable busboy. But I had never had a mentally handicapped employee and wasn't sure I wanted one. I wasn't sure how my customers would react to Stevie.

He was short, a little dumpy with the smooth facial features and thick-tongued speech of Downs Syndrome. I wasn't worried about most of my trucker customers because truckers don't generally care who buses tables as long as the meatloaf platter is good and the pies are homemade.

The ones who concerned me were the mouthy college kids traveling to school; the yuppie snobs who secretly polish their silverware with their napkins for fear of catching some dreaded 'truck stop germ'; the pairs of white-shirted business men on expense accounts who think every truck stop waitress wants to be flirted with. I knew those people would be uncomfortable around Stevie so I closely watched him for the first few weeks...

I shouldn't have worried. After the first week, Stevie had my staff wrapped around his stubby little finger, and within a month my truck regulars had adopted him as their official truck stop mascot.

After that, I really didn't care what the rest of the customers thought of him. He was like a 21-year-old in blue jeans and Nikes, eager to laugh and eager to please, but fierce in his attention to his duties. Every salt and peppershaker was exactly in its place, not a breadcrumb or coffee spill was visible when Stevie got done with the table.

Our only problem was persuading him to wait to clean a table until after the customers were finished. He would hover in the background, shifting his weight from one foot to the other, scanning the dining room until a table was empty. Then he would scurry to the empty table and carefully bus dishes and glasses onto his cart and meticulously wipe the table up with a practiced flourish of his rag.

If he thought a customer was watching, his brow would pucker with added concentration. He took pride in doing his job exactly right, and you had to love how hard he tried to please each and every person he met.

Over time, we learned that he lived with his mother, a widow who was disabled after repeated surgeries for cancer. They lived on their Social Security benefits in public housing two miles from the truck stop Their social worker, who stopped to check on him every so often, admitted they had fallen between the cracks. Money was tight, and what I paid him was probably the difference between them being able to live together and Stevie being sent to a group home. That's why the restaurant was a gloomy place that morning last August, the first morning in three years that Stevie missed work.

He was at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester getting a new valve or something put in his heart. His social worker said that people with Downs Syndrome often have heart problems at an early age so this wasn't unexpected, and there was a good chance he would come through the surgery in good shape and be back at work in a few months.

A ripple of excitement ran through the staff later that morning when word came that he was out of surgery, in recovery, and doing fine.

Frannie, the head waitress, let out a war hoop and did a little dance in the aisle when she heard the good news.

Bell Ringer, one of our regular trucker customers, stared at the sight of this 50-year-old grandmother of four doing a victory shimmy beside his table.

Frannie blushed, smoothed her apron and shot Bell Ringer a withering look.

He grinned. 'OK, Frannie , what was that all about?' he asked..

'We just got word that Stevie is out of surgery and going to be okay.'

'I was wondering where he was. I had a new joke to tell him. What was the surgery about?'

Frannie quickly told Bell Ringer and the other two drivers sitting at his booth about Stevie's surgery then sighed: 'Yeah, I'm glad he is going to be OK,' she said. 'But I don't know how he and his Mom are going to handle all the bills. From what I hear, they're barely getting by as it is.' Bell Ringer nodded thoughtfully, and Frannie hurried off to wait on the rest of her tables. Since I hadn't had time to round up a busboy to replace Stevie and really didn't want to replace him, the girls were busing their own tables that day until we decided what to do.

After the morning rush, Frannie walked into my office. She had a couple of paper napkins in her hand and a funny look on her face.

'What's up?' I asked.

'I didn't get that table where Bell Ringer and his friends were sitting cleared off after they left, and Pony Pete and Tony Tipper were sitting there when I got back to clean it off,' she said. 'This was folded and tucked under a coffee cup.'

She handed the napkin to me, and three $20 bills fell onto my desk when I opened it. On the outside, in big, bold letters, was printed 'Something For Stevie'.

'Pony Pete asked me what that was all about,' she said, 'so I told him about Stevie and his Mom and everything, and Pete looked at Tony and Tony looked at Pete, and they ended up giving me this.' She handed me another paper napkin that had 'Something For Stevie' scrawled on its outside. Two $50 bills were tucked within its folds. Frannie looked at me with wet, shiny eyes, shook her head and said simply: 'Truckers!!'

That was three months ago. Today is Thanksgiving, the first day Stevie is supposed to be back to work.

His placement worker said he's been counting the days until the doctor said he could work, and it didn't matter at all that it was a holiday. He called ten times in the past week, making sure we knew he was coming, fearful that we had forgotten him or that his job was in jeopardy.

I arranged to have his mother bring him to work. I then met them in the parking lot and invited them both to celebrate his day back.

Stevie was thinner and paler, but couldn't stop grinning as he pushed through the doors and headed for the back room where his apron and busing cart were waiting

'Hold up there, Stevie, not so fast,' I said. I took him and his mother by their arms. 'Work can wait for a minute. To celebrate you coming back, breakfast for you and your mother is on me!'
I led them toward a large corner booth at the rear of the room.

I could feel and hear the rest of the staff following behind as we marched through the dining room. Glancing over my shoulder, I saw booth after booth of grinning truckers empty and join the procession. We stopped in front of the big table Its surface was covered with coffee cups, saucers and dinner plates, all sitting slightly crooked on dozens of folded paper napkins 'First thing you have to do, Stevie, is clean up this mess,' I said. I tried to sound stern.

Stevie looked at me, and then at his mother, then pulled out one of the napkins. It had 'Something for Stevie' printed on the outside. As he picked it up, two $10 bills fell onto the table.

Stevie stared at the money, then at all the napkins peeking from beneath the tableware, each with his name printed or scrawled on it. I turned to his mother. 'There's more than $10,000 in cash and checks on that table, all from truckers and trucking companies that heard about your problems.. 'Happy Thanksgiving.'

Well, it got real noisy about that time, with everybody hollering and shouting, and there were a few tears, as well.

But you know what's funny?
While everybody else was busy shaking hands and hugging each other, Stevie, with a big, big smile on his face, was busy clearing all the cups and dishes from the table.....

Best worker I ever hired.

Plant a seed and watch it grow..

Blessed are those who can give without remembering and take without forgetting.

Larry, my Dad and grand parents raised me  I had two Aunts that spoiled me rotten and yes I felt loved.  Having this love shown to me I was able to show it to my children  I think that is how it works.    Kids do NOT come with an owners manual, we do the best we can..

Marilyne

Larry - Thank you for the inspirational story about Stevie.

Nothing of interest happening here today.  Hubby is at the dermatologist, and I'm getting ready to go to Safeway or Whole Foods, for some fresh bread and other needed items.  Daughter Sandy, will be coming over tonight for dinner, so I'm trying to decide what we will have?  It has to be something that's ready to eat, because too hard to put together and cook a whole meal. I'm thinking about getting the turkey meatloaf at Whole Foods?  Then I'll fix some asparagus and some rice, and that will most likely be it.

Hi Everyone.  We kept getting severe storm warning after midnight.  Fortunately, where I live we only had one big lightning strike and loud clap of thunder and moderate rain for a couple of hours and none of the 40-50 MPH wind that was expected.  However, the storm did hit over in Augusta and at least one business was damaged and more than one employee was taken to the hospital for treatment.  I did not sleep well last night with only a couple of hour after I went to bed and then a couple before I got up late this morning.  We are going to see 78 degree temperatures this afternoon.

Pat and I plan on going over to Dairy Queen for lunch, which will be our main meal of the day, as this is free cone day.  I will also run into Walmart to get a couple of things Pat needs to make the corned beef.  I want to finish up an audiobook that has only a little over an hour to go.  Yesterday I got notice from the library that a John Grisham Book that I have had on hold for quite awhile was checkout to me so will start listening to it later today as well. The new reading lamp that Pat needed came yesterday and I was able to assemble it.  I also got my Ring doorbell assembled.  Today we are to get the Rollator but think I will leave that for Scott to put together tomorrow evening.  I did order a new laptop for Pat's sister and it should come tomorrow.  Rather than having it sent directly to her I am having it shipped to me so I can get everything up to date on it as she knows little about using a computer.  I hope to have it ready and will ship it off to her before the end of the week.

ShirleyN and Sue, I have to admit I also had a tear or two in my eyes as I finished that story.  We used to eat at a Zaxby's Chicken Restaurant that had a busboy who obviously was Down's Syndrome and he was a very sweet and hardworking person.

Joan, you are so right about kids not coming with an owners manual.

Marilyne, I sure understand about not fixing a whole meal.  Aren't we fortunate that there are so many different prepared foods available that cut down so much on meal preparation.  We had the Costco tomato bisque soup with fresh vegetables for our dinner last evening.  That was easy preparation and easy cleanup.

Mary Ann

It's a bright sunny, but cool, day so far.  I think we will get up into the low 40s today.  All week long we should be in the 40s with lows at night in the 20s.

Larry, I wish we had a Dairy Queen nearby; I don't even know where there is one in town and I'll have to look.

This morning I had cereal and milk, something I have not had in a long time.  Tom won't drink skim milk and that is the only kind I like, having gotten used to it long ago.  When I got down to less than a tablespoon of milk, I put the dish on the floor to see what Kendrick would do.  He almost cleaned the dish!  He does not get milk and I'm not going to start giving it to him, but he seemed to like what I gave him.

When my grandmother lived with us, it was common to let the dog lick the dish and we'd say that it was not necessary to wash the dish now that the dog had cleaned it up.  I don't know if my grandmother believed us or not, but she was always horrified when we said that.  I think she did not like us letting the dog finish off the food but when we washed the dishes, we rinsed them in boiling water so they were scalded - the days before dishwashers, at least for us.

Good afternoon, waiting for another Nor's easter. the 4th one, and I have a doctors appointment , which my nurse wants me to keep, as my heart rate is so slow.

Larry, Beautiful story. I like to see how many stores around here do hire the mentally  challenge. At Stop $ Shop or supermarket, they have two young men. One brings in the carts and cleans the shelves and the other one is a packer. I always make a point of speaking to him.

MaryAnn, I generally have dry cereal once a week with my banana, I use half and half no fat. Other wise I use skin milk.

MaryAnn.  I know that you have had your posting in colour for a long time. A couple of us are playing around changing ours. I ask Jane this question in on of the other forums.

Note  Jane. Now isn't there a way that will make it stay for every time you post once you have put in to make the change or do you have to code it every time? That gets tiresome. I know that some people have had it coloured for years.
JeanneP

Mary Ann

Jeanne, the color does not repeat.  When I finish writing my message, I highlight the entire message, go up to BOLD, then over to COLOR and down to BLUE.  It takes no time at all but I do have to do it for every post.  I liked the font and color of your message.  Please continue to do it that way because it is so much easier to read - at least for me.  Old eyes, you know.

Tomorrow morning someone from AT&T will be here to increase the speed of our Internet.  Tom talked to the company and it should cost $5 more.  I was expecting $20 more but they don't have 1G in our area so we won't have as fast as Tom wanted, but it will be faster than what we've had.

We've had a lovely day and I think Wednesday will be nice too.  In fact, the Weather Channel says it will be nice all week.  I can handle that.

Hi Everyone. We have a bright and sunny morning but will have a cooler day getting only into the low to mid-50s.  The only thing on our schedule for today is dinner at the Church this evening and then spending time with Scott and Jennifer.  We did get the rollator yesterday and I will ask Scott to put it together this evening. He enjoys assembling things and I don't.  We did enjoy our lunch out at Dairy Queen yesterday and the ice cream cone was even better because it was free.  I guess a little of my Scottish background shows.  :)

Mary Ann, I ate cereal for breakfast for many years from the time I was a child throughout my work life but haven't done so in quite a few years now.  I sometimes will get a bowl of Cheerios for an afternoon snack. We also used skim milk for many years. We had to watch our cats on the farm as they liked to sneak and get a few sips of milk from the milk pails.  Fortunately that didn't happen very often.

deAngel, I sure hope you make it for your doctor's appointment today before you get the snow.  That storm sounds like another bad one.  I have a first cousin who has a son that was born challenged and he now can live independently.  They sent him to a special college in Ohio and he was able to do the work of the regular classes and graduated.  However, he had to have a note taker sit with him in each class. He is a delightful young man and fun to be around.

JeanneP, a suggestion for you on posting in color and bold. I copied the code I use each day in these discussions and have it saved in a neat little program called Keep that I can quickly load when I am in Gmail, which I see you have.  The same thing could be done in Notepad and saved on your desk top for ready reference. You probably already know this but will go ahead an mention how to find the little note keeping program.  On the Gmail page just right of the search line after the little blue box with the magnifying glass image is a little box with 9 dots.  Just click on it and scroll down and you will see Keep.  I use it for many things I want to be able to access quickly, including a neat little program for lists for groceries.  Once and item is listed and you purchased it you must put a check mark in the little box and it moves it to the Completed item section.  The next time you want to put the item back on your list you just remove the check mark by clicking on it and it puts it back in your active shopping list. Since Keep is saved on line it is available from any computer or smart phone and is so handy.

Good morning from rainy California.  Mostly just drizzle here, but the Pineapple Express, (atmospheric river), is supposed to hit later today or tonight.  The good news is that it might bring us out of the drought.  The bad news, is that it is predicted to rain hardest in the central coast area, and near Santa Barbara, where the mudslides and boulders killed many people in January.

Yesterday, the 20th, was our son's 57th birthday!  We plan to take the family out for a birthday dinner tonight, to one of our local restaurants.  I'm looking forward to spending time with them, and also a night out for us.  It's been over a month since AJ and I have been to a restaurant for a meal.  Not that I'm a slave to the kitchen, however . . . we get our main dish at one of the super market deli's or at Costco, so my only cooking involves the side dishes or salad.

Marilyn, I hope your family has a good time together for your son's birthday.  He is almost four years younger than Tom, who will be 61 in July.  We had a party for his 60th birthday.

We had our Internet upgraded this morning but it isn't as high as Tom wants or needs.  He'll test it in the morning before he complains.  Both of us tested the speed and mine were all over the place, but nowhere near what Tom asked for when he made the call for the change.

We have a bright sunny cool day so far.  Grand Haven water looks very cold - dark blue - otherwise the scene is sunny.  Looking at radar, the snow is south of us and going east.

Mary Ann, my son just turned 60 on Sunday, the 18th.  His wife threw a big party for him.

Larry, I am registered at GMail (but have never used it for some unknown reason) so I tried 'Keep' & it worked.  Fun learning new tricks.

shirleyn - Looks like we both had babies in the Spring of 1958! :) Our older daughter will turn 60 on May 7th!

Mary Ann - I remember when you had the birthday party for Tom, last summer.  Our daughter doesn't want a party of any kind for her 60th.  I know she would love one, if she were still married, but now prefers to keep to herself.

Marilyne, it seems a lot of our two lives resembled each other.  Many things you mention, match my past life.  My oldest of four was born in 1955, and the youngest in 1959 (the gal that died of a brain aneurysm at 49  :'()

Hi Everybody!

It is still snowing here--a lot more than they called for. It is just 31o. Tomorrow is supposed to go up to 40; I won't hold my breath for that.

I haven't gone out to do any shoveling yet, and may not until tomorrow morning, but more liekly I'll go do front walk in a bit. Of course, it is that heavy wet stuff that will be nasty to shovel. The plows have left their usual side deposits in front of the driveway, and not too close to the sidewalk as people park in front of my house. That makes it even more and heavier clumped snow to shovel. George went up to Mansfield today, regardless of the weather. I don't think they are getting much snow up there. I refuse to hurry my snow shoveling to get out to feed his cats. They will have to make do with the dry stuff that is always out for them until I get shoveled out.

It seems that each storm has been worse than the previous one.  I haven't watched the Weather Channel lately, but when I did I saw someone saying this would be the worst of them all.

My sympathy to the Easterners for all of the storms.  Our winter has been relatively light.  Lake Michigan is open so if our weather should turn cold and windy, we would get lake effect snow, even this far inland.

Grand Haven now has some whitecaps, earlier the water was very calm.
