Shirley - The daughter born in 1958 is my oldest - then a son in 1961. Younger daughter was born in 1969, when the older kids were eight and eleven.  Her birthday is coming up soon, on April first.

I remember last year, when your son died, but I didn't realize that you also had a daughter who had passed away from a brain aneurysm.  I feel so bad for you, losing two of your adult children . . . so extremely sad.

Lindancer

Still snowing!  :snowball:

Shirleyn, my son would have been 71 last week. He was a Major in the AF, when he died at 45, with a massive heart attack.

MarsGal, we are suppose to keep our sidewalk cleaned, as we live in a senior park. The reasoning is and ambulance might have to come in!?  Of course to prove it I have been taken away twice in a snow storm, and Of course the snow plowers keep the driveway filled.

Mary Ann

Shirleyn, I had forgotten about your son last year but I do remember when your daughter died.  Thanks, Marilyn, for reminding me.

Gloria, I wonder if snow plows fill the driveways of other snow plowers.  They should!

Mary Ann

shirleyn

Marilyne, thanks.  It is/was rough losing two adult children.  The pain never goes away.

deAngel, I did not know about your loss either.  You know what I went through.  So glad to see you back home from the hospital.  It was nice of your nephew to keep us informed.

shirleyn.

Larry. Now I have been playing and found the "Keep" need to now go and put this one in colour. See what happens. I see when I typed Seniorsandfriends in Keep a file opened to the left.

I got too antsy to wait until this morning to shovel the snow, so I went out around 4pm yesterday (it was still snowing) and cleaned off the sidewalk only. I still must clean off my car, the drive and the bit on the street beyond my driveway. Because there are cars on the street close to my driveway, the plow does not scrape the road very close to the curb. I have another 10 ft of this to clear. The local paper is reporting that we got 8.5inches here in Enola. The Harrisburg area got more. George reported last evening that there was no snow above Route 80.

Hi Everyone on a crisp 38 degree South Carolina morning and we are only headed up to around 60 late this afternoon.  My friend, who I usually take to coffee, is not going to go with me this morning.  I do have some business to attend to at the Credit Union and then pick up a prescription at Walmart before I go on down to coffee for a little while.

Yesterday afternoon around 2 pm the new Acer laptop was delivered and I it took at least 3 hours to bring the Windows software up to date.  My major activities before and after I go out is to get the computer fixed up.  I have decided to keep the Acer and give Pat's sister the HP that I got two or three months ago.  Both are nice computer but the Acer has a HD screen and the keyboard has led lights that come on when you start typing.

Scott went to dinner with us but Jennifer didn't so didn't attend.  He then came out to the house and while he he assembled the new Rollator for Pat and we tested putting it into the car.  We decided the best place to carry it is in the truck of the car.

I am going to make limited comments today as want to get busy on the new computer.

Mary Ann, it sounds like Tom is very disappointed in the Internet upgrade.

ShirleyN, I predict that after you use Keep for awhile you will really like it.  I keep appointments listed together, information about when I do things around the house or car, the history of my medical record over the years and medications I currently have and a number of other things.

It seems that many of us here have lost a child and some more than one so know the grief that goes with that happening.

deAngel, glad you were able to get to the doctor and back home safely.  I have a feeling that a pacemaker would be very beneficial to you.  I have really benefited from mine as it keeps my heart rate pretty consistent.

JeanneP, here is the code I use without the spaces:  [ size=14pt][ b] [ color=black] .  An easy way to copy your code is to write some, do a preview and highlight what you have written and then start applying the codes as it places them around the text.  I then just copied the code at the beginning and saved it in my Keep file and am all set for each morning when I write in the discussions.  You don't need to use the ending code, which is what you showed in your message #8165.  I learned that from Patricia.

The birthday dinner was fun, with lots of conversation and good food.  Much to my surprise, I found out that our 22 year old granddaughter is vacationing in New Zealand!  Seems that the company she works for in San Francisco, has decided to close that division, and relocate back to Chicago.  She and other Californians didn't want to move to Chicago, so they were laid off, with a full month of severance pay!  So she and a couple of others decided to go to NZ.  Why NZ, I have no idea, but they are having a great time, and sending lots of photos for us to look at. It's great to be young, and have no responsibilities, so you can take a sudden vacation like that.

Today I need to go grocery shopping, and will stop at a shoe store that carries my shoe size, and hope to find some sandals for the warm weather ahead.  Right now it's raining hard, and temps are predicted to drop to freezing again, starting tonight.  I've haven't heard yet, if the Santa Barbara area was hit with more mud slides, from this rain storm?  I'll have to check Google News, when I leave S&F.

larryhanna

Hi Everyone.  We have a crisp and sunny Friday morning with no wind.  I did spend a number of hours yesterday working on the two laptops and expect to do so again today.  I about have them as I want them but still need to prepare some guidelines for my SIL on how to use the Microsoft Edge Browser and a number of other things connected to the computer and software I have on her computer.  The housekeeper will be here in another hour or so.  Pat and I plan on going to to eat out main meal sometime around noon.  Not much else going on here.

Marilyne, New Zealand would be a nice place to vacation.  She is wise to travel while she is young and energetic.  I hope she finds employment quickly when she returns home.  Hope you found what you wanted at the shoe store.  I haven't had a pair of sandals for many years as my feet are cold almost all the time and that wouldn't work well with sandals.  I saw some pictures of the mud slides on the news last night and that is sure a terrible thing.

Good evening,  Sunny day, with a very little wind. Still plenty of snow on the ground.  sure it will st ill be here for Palm Sunday.

Larry, my nephew got me a small lap top. PC he set most of it up yesterday, so I am playing on it now.  My mine trouble is everything seems so small, and fast after having my old PC about 8 years.

I had to get a quick appointment with the foot doctor this morning, as my toe is very infected I did not sleep all night because of it. I had a visit last Friday with him last Friday, ans he must have cut the nail wrong,  I am now on antibiotic for 12 days

Hi Everyone.  This is suppose to be a very nice day going into the 70's this afternoon.  I do plan on attending a meeting this morning and then the rest of the day is clear.  I will begin the work on preparing documentation to send to my SIL on using the new laptop.  I talked with her yesterday and she encouraged me to take my time and not stress over the job so will try to do that although once I determine to do something I like to get it done.  I discovered last evening that the problem I was having with the Acer laptop was that the mouse I was using was failing.  I changed that out and no longer had the problem.  I have things laid out for Pat's breakfast and didn't need to empty the dishwasher this morning as we ate our main meal at Texas Roadhouse yesterday and it was delicious.

I loaded the new rollator in the car trunk yesterday and decided it was going to be too heavy for me to handle getting it in and out of the truck as it brought on the angina.  So I will get it boxed up and return it to Costco on our next visit.  In place of it we will get a second light weight walker for her to use when she goes out that we can leave in the car.  I am sorry this isn't working out but it is what it is and she would need a heavy duty Rollator, which is going to be too heavy for me to handle.

deAngel, I was happy to read that your nephew got you the small laptop.  I have no plans of ever buying another desktop as the laptops are so handy and you can enjoy using them where ever you are.  I expect your nephew knows this but be sure the laptop sits on a hard surface as the heat is dissipated through the bottom and the units can overheat and shut down.  I know this from personal experience.  Pat and I both use laptop desks that we use on our laps in our easy chairs or when I take my laptop in and use it while I am in bed.  The main thing is that there be enough room for a mouse.  Sorry to hear of your infected toe and now having to take antibiotics sure isn't going to help your energy level.

Joy

Good morning.

Larry, I am sorry to read about the new Rollator for Pat is too heavy for you.   I can understand that.  Fortunately, whenever I go out,  it is usually with either one of my son's or daughter-in-laws and they are able to handle my walker.  I did buy one of the bigger ones with the bigger wheels, thinking it would be better for walking on uneven ground, but it doesn't roll any better than the one I already have.  And, it is heavier, so I know I couldn't handle it either.  It is still sitting in a corner.  I was really disappointed, as I was hoping to be able to get to our local Farmer's market that is held on the grounds of our fire department. And, it is all on grass where the ground is uneven. The write-up for it stated that it was good for any kind of terrain.  So, I just can't go anymore.  Luckily, there is a nice indoor farmer's market at our local Agricultural Center that I do get to go to a couple times during the summer.  I have several friends who also like going there, and I go with them.

Good luck with getting the computer all set up for your SIL.  I am sure she appreciates your doing that for her.  And, no, I am not a big baseball fan.  I did use to follow the Orioles, but don't recognize any of the players anymore.  I do back to the old days with Brooks Robinson and Cal Ripken.  All new young players now.  Now, if they would ever get into where they were in the running for the World Series, I probably would watch it more.  I prefer the football games, but, really got turned off last season when a lot of the teams disrespected our flag and National Anthem.  My son's feel the same way.  Plus, way too much money for their salaries.

This morning is bright and sunny and very calm.  Hoping for warmer temperatures later in the week.

I need to get myself moving and plan what I will do with my day.  Nothing special so far.

Have a great week end.

Larry. It is time I bought a new Desktop with W10 on.  I did try a laptop a few years back and just did not like them.  Maybe they have changed a little. I feel that they are less convenient than my IPad is. I just could not type as good on a laptop. Also the friend of 15years who always set up computer programs for me passed away in November and right now I would have to depend on the Stores. Staples do have a Computer service man that I know could help.  Will see.  I just like the old desktop had for 6 years. So use to W7 also.

Looks like a stay home read and watch films all weekend. We had 2 days like summer and now back comes the snow. Very cold out.I started watching Lady Bird. Got sleepy and so it is still in my DVD player.  Will start it over I think later today.
Doubt I even get out of PJs today.

Larry. Forget to mention. I know you go to Aldi's. I also like them for certain things. Big one across the street from me.
Found something the other day. Now Me. I am a big Pickled Beetroot eater. Will sit with a fork and jar and have to force myself to quit. Well I have tried many but got some a Aldi's and the best I have ever had." Happy Harvest pickled sliced beets."
I need to get another jar already.
JeanneP

Jeanne,  I have only been to a small Aldi's.  And, I did find the store to be very nice.  THis particular one did even have some name brand things.  We have one in the next town to me, but I have never been to it.

But, I did want to tell you that my sister-in-law does go to one near her and she says their brand of Corn Flakes are the best she has ever had.  She doesn't buy meat there, but does stop to get bread and milk when she is close by.

I, too, love pickled beets, so maybe one of these days I will get to the one near me.

Thanks for commenting on the beets.

I like pickled beets too. :) I like to eat them cold, when the weather is warm.  I like regular canned beets - in a salad, or plain, with some salad dressing.  I rarely ever fix cooked beets or fresh beets. Used to back in the day, but not any more.

We don't have Aldi's in California. (As far as I know?) However, we do have Trader Joe's, which is similar.  There is one here in town, but I rarely go there because it's very small, and always  crowded, with long lines.  They do have great prices though, and an interesting  selection of foods to choose from.

JeanneP

Aldi's are all over Europe. Been in UK for years. Owned by 2 German Brothers. Started small in in US but now getting to be one of they fastest growing stores in the US and I believe Canada also. We have 3 here. One by me is now the largest as they doubled the size.  Most things have the own Brand names. Not Aldi but another. I don't see anything in there with a US company name . Maybe there a a few. Now I buy meat from a Butcher shop that has not been frozen or sealed wrapped but I have bought some from Aldi. Theirs not frozen solid. Its good. Little more expensive that the other stores but I think fresher. Not big on have big sales on their meat. Fastest checkers. Have to take your own bags or buy  theirs. Good plastic ones.
Don't take Checks. Just DC. CC or Cash. Want to check out fast.

Hi Everyone.  We are having a rainy and pretty chilly morning and we will only get into the mid-50's today.  There is a low percentage chance of rain throughout the day.  I did attend my meeting yesterday morning and then stopped at Aldi's for a half dozen items.  Pat put together a really good Reuben type casserole using some of our left over corned beef, a jar of sauerkraut, sliced swiss cheese, bread crumbs and thousand island dressing.  This was layered and baked in the oven and was very tasty.  She made only a half of the recipe and it made plenty for at least three meals for the two of us.

Yesterday I put a program on my two computer and on the one I am sending to my SIL that allows me to take control of her computer.  I will be able to talk with her on the phone and show her what I was going to try to put in words.  Then if she has a problem I can see what she is talking about and guide her as well as do the maintenance on it. It was called Team Viewer.  It is going to save me hours of work and I will be able to ship the laptop to her perhaps even tomorrow.

I only have a few minutes before it will be time to go to Sunday School and Church so am going to make only limited comments here today.

JeanneP, the laptops have changed very little over the years other than gotten faster and with larger hard drives and the latest Windows operating systems. I do like pickled beets so will have to look for them at Aldi's.  We have found the "Happy Harvest" foods at Aldi's generally very good.  Where we used to live the Aldi's only accepted cash or debit cards but the new one here now accepts credit cards as well.

wjoan

Saw one egg in the nest  this morning.  Tis the first one in  top of the page.

JeanneP

Larry.  That is quite a program you put on those laptops. Something I would like to have as I no longer have my Computer Guru to help me. that is the reason I don't get a new computer,
Over the years I got so much help from "Dave" who was on S and F. remember him?
All snowed in today. Not had this much snow in a long time. I may go out and clean it off my car but will not try shoveling it. Suppose to warm up and so may melt fast.

The lake looks so calm today. Would think be more people walking the beach.  I notice 2 people standing out in the water. Maybe fishing with short rods.

Jeanne, I think it is too cold and windy to be walking along the lake.  I think the wind is more of a deterrent than the temperature.

Dot and I did our usual Sunday thing and talked and talked and talked.  We were at the Cholesterol Pit for 1 1/2 hours and solved the problems of the world - only no one was listening.  Mr Burger will be closed next week on Easter Sunday so I don't know if we'll go out to eat or not.  Many people go out anyway.  She will be with her family for dinner but I have no idea what we will do.  Whatever plans Tom makes, I will go along.

PS - I just looked at Lake Michigan and the air temp is 44 there and there were several people on the beach and one had a dog.

I am watching some golf but I don't know what or where.  I recognize some of the names, but it is not a major tour.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Mary Ann - Your Sunday lunch with Dot, at the Cholesterol Pit, always sounds like so much fun.  I wish I had a friend left,  that I could meet for a long extended meal at a local restaurant.  All of my friends are gone now, or moved to other areas in California or AZ.

It's almost as cold here, as it is at Grand Haven . . . 51 degrees, at 2:30, with off and on icy showers.  That's extremely cold for this time of year.  I've stayed home for a couple of days, because it's just too uncomfortable to go out in this weather.  I know the East Coast is suffering a lot more than we are, so I shouldn't complain.

Mary Ann

Marilyn, Norm and Dot used to go to Mr Burger, aka Cholesterol Pit, after church when they were in town and I went with them.  They spent their winters in Florida and had a group of friends there who they would meet, eight or ten people.  They sold the Florida place a year or two before Norm died and Dot and I went to church together, then went to Mr Burger afterward.  And we still are doing it.  I was afraid we were going to have someone join us regularly, but she didn't, which makes me happy because that is Dot's and my "one on one" time.  She talks more than I do but she was from a larger family than I was and some of her sibs are still alive.  We used to alternate driving, but since I no longer drive, she does it all.  We do alternate paying and we spend $11 for the two of us each week.  We most often get the Tuna Melt (one order, split) along with a cream pie that we cut in half.

All of my friends have gone too; I know none of my high school friends are alive now.  A classmate who has kept track of us since we graduated, told me recently that there are 30 left out of a class of 255; we graduated in 1941, 77 years ago.  That's what happens when you hit 90!  Dot is six years younger than I am and I look back and realize I was still driving at her age.  She wonders how long she will be able to continue.  I am so fortunate that I have Tom living here and able to take me to appointments.

Tom just got home from picking his lady friend up from Pinckney MI where her daughter lives.  She was on a two-week tour to Israel.  Fortunately she doesn't have to be back at work for a few days so she can recuperate.

Hi Everyone.  After a chilly and damp day yesterday we are in for a cloudy and cool day today getting up to only around 55 degrees.  We have only three things on our schedule for today.  Pat has a 10 am appointment at the hospital for the bone density test she had to cancel from last week.  Then we plan on eating at Honey on the Rock restaurant across the road from the country club where the Master's is played.  Finally I have the laptop computer boxed and in the care to send to Pat's sister today.  Hopefully she will have it by the end of the week.

I don't have time for individual comments this morning.  I may come back later today and read what was said yesterday and offer a few comments or I'll join you all tomorrow.

larryhanna

It's me again today.  I am eating my lunch so decided I would come back and catch up on yesterday.  I was able to send the computer UPS on the way to Pat's test.  Shipping costs are terrible.  Our University Hospital not long ago bought another hospital called Trinity and it is two or three miles down the same road.  That was where we had to go and it isn't a busy hospital like the main campus.  There was no waiting and Pat was finished 30 minutes before her scheduled time.  It was too early to eat out so we just came on home making a couple of quick stops.  We will stay home the rest of the day and have some more of the Reuben Casserole from a couple of nights ago as there was plenty left over.

JeanneP, I don't remember Dave as didn't participate in the Computer related discussions. Has the snow begun to melt yet?  Our sky looks like snow but it is much too warm here although still chilly.

Mary Ann, my men's coffee groups over the years has also has come up with solutions for some of the world's problems but we had the same experience as you in that no one listened.  We will be having the Easter dinner here.  There will be six of us.  Pat and I will buy the food but the others will be preparing it.  An $11 meal for two people is certainly reasonable.  The only time we get something that inexpensive is the Sunday's when I pick up a large Firehouse Sub that comes to about $10 and is plenty for the both of us.

Marilyne, when I think of California I tend to think of nicer warm weather but know the Northern part of the State isn't as warm as the lower part.

Marilyne

Larry - Sounds like you have a busy day ahead. We will always forgive you for not leaving individual comments! :) You are so faithful with your postings here and in other folders, so if you are especially busy for a couple of days -no need to apologize!

Mary Ann - It's good to have a comfortable and familiar place like The "Cholesterol Pit", to have lunch or dinner.  Most of the locally owned restaurants around here are too pricey to go to on a regular basis.  There is still one coffee shop left, on the other side of town, that's extremely popular. I like to go there, but hate to wait.  The only affordable one near us is The Diner, which has a 1950's theme - complete with juke box!  We do go there fairly often, because it's close.  (No tuna melt at either place!) :(

MarsGal

Good Afternoon, everyone.

This morning I went up to Bed Bath and Beyond to get a new toilet seat and a new mattress cover. On the way back I stopped in to see my broker/advisor to check out his new office. He very recently switched companies and I will be moving my investments over to his new employer soon. I have had no problems with him, but I have had problems for the last few years with the policies of the financial institution I've been with. Easy decision.

Larry, the Reuben casserole sounds great. Next time I find a corned beef round (I don't buy the brisket) I hope I remember to try it. The last time I was in Subway, I got a Reuben Salad which was good too.

Mary Ann

Larry, our meal at the Cholesterol Pit could be called Brunch since we don't get there until about 11:30 and it is a cafeteria.  We alternate paying each week and Dot does the ordering and paying (regardless of whose money she is using).  The Tuna Melt consists of two slices of toasted light rye bread with about a half inch of tuna, veggies, mayo mix in between the slices of bread.  As usual with sandwiches, they cut the sandwich in half and we cut our halves in half again for easier eating.  Dot also gets a piece of pie and we cut that in half.  The restaurant is very nice to give us two plates for both the Tuna Melt and the pie.  So actually $11 is about right for what we get.  I started getting the Tuna Melt years ago when Norm was still alive because I was tired of "two eggs over medium and raisin toast".  When Dot and I don't get the Tuna Melt, we get hamburgers - I get a regular and Dot likes an oliveburger.  A long time ago I took a picture of our Tuna Melt and someone posted it here for me.  I have no idea how many posts ago that was.  Mr Burger (aka The Cholesterol Pit) is really a hamburg joint, but you ought to see the crowds on Sunday mornings!  We've been lucky to find a parking place and booth, but the place is crowded with regulars who know where the coffee pots are for second cups.

Mary Ann
