There's activity at Grand Haven - people walking on the pier and I think it is a dredge that is in the lake near the north pier.  Someone is near the shore and I wonder if he is getting minnows to do some fishing elsewhere.

It must be at least 60 outside and Tom says it is "just gorgeous" out.  Do you suppose Spring is finally going to get here?  I did hear about another storm headed this way, but I'm not sure what path it is taking.

Time for me to shut up and move on!

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Mary Ann - I just took a look at Grand Haven, and it does look like a very nice day - the water looks calm, and no wind blowing.  I see two people walking along the shore.  I'll check out the Duluth cams after I finish this post. I always forget you're three hours ahead of us - now just about 1:00 PM here, so would be 4:00 in Michigan.

FlaJean - You've certainly moved around a lot over the years.  I had forgotten that you lived in Morocco - how long were you there?  Did you live in Casablanca?

FlaJean

Mary Ann, I would say you are very well traveled.  It’s nice to have these memories as we are less able to travel.

Marilyne, we lived in a town called Kenitra, a port city on the Sbu River in Northern Morocco about 25 miles from the capital, Rabat.  We lived there almost 3 years and visited Casablanca, Marrakech and many other places while there.  It was quite an experience.

Good evening, it is 7:30, I am tired.   I am also tired of writing it is windy and cold.

I am tired, as I went yo homemakers to day. Come home at Noon, and went to the hematologist ,had a thyroid test. and blood work, need that shot. Blood count low again.

Larry at Homemakers Pat and Amy should have been with me.  We have been meeting at the old Jameport  school,  wooden building, with the old bell tower on top. for over 25 years  the  president  of our club decided to clean the big old closets out of our things.  There must have been 10 boxes of quilt material, plastic boxes of sewing material, and they could hardly give anyof it away.  No one was into sewing anymore,  I took some material to cover a foot stool. When I joined, there was even a quilt club.  We use to make quilts for aids babies.

Marilyne, you ask where I was going to in Calif. it was Sacramento we drove to Wyomeny and across, as we could not go straight across the Rockies because of snow. One year when we were visiting Calif at Christmas. Our son gave us a present of a few days in Lake Tahoe, I think the place we stayed in, was called Evergreen. and the use if his Camaro. Not a good mountain car.

Hi Everyone.  It is another beautiful and sunny morning and we headed to the mid-70's this afternoon although we are now only in the mid-40's.  I don't have too much on the schedule for today.  I have emptied the ice bin and letting the container thaw out and lose all the shavings frost that seem to build up.  I made Pat's breakfast.  I will decide a little later whether I will attend a meeting this morning or not depending on my strength level at the time.  Yesterday I did go downtown and picked up Elizabeth at Scott's house and brought her out here for a couple of hours.  She cleaned up the attic and brought down a lot of boxes that I had saved up there and generally rearranged and straighten up things.  She did the same in the garage and took a few things up to the attic that have been in the garage since we moved but which I didn't want to discard.  I also had her trim off the top of the three small shrubs on either side of the walkway and on the other side of the driveway.  She did all the work but I was the one ending up tired as stayed with her as she worked.  I was glad to get these things done.  A 19 year old has a lot of energy.

Mary Ann, I have never visited a Presidential Library.  I lived close to the Harry Truman Library in Independence, Missouri for nine years and never got there.  I was able to get an appointment with the new cardiologist, who is in the same office she is leaving, for the same day as my previous appointment in July.  I have had quite a few different cardiologist over this past 30 years.  I also understand baseball but seldom watch a game.  I hope to be able to attend a game in our new stadium downtown if can get a seat where I don't need to climb many stairs.  I also like golf although have no idea how the players get the ball to do pretty much what they want.  I know it comes from a lot of practice.

Joan, we do have a lot of humidity here but am never out in it very long.  It is mainly getting out of the car into a building or going to the mail box, which is only a few steps from our front door. This is the first house we have had for a long time where we actually use the front door and it rather nice.  I keep a sweater in my car all the time in case I go somewhere that it too cold to be comfortable, as restaurants sometimes are.  However, in the last few years haven't had much problem with that so the problem may have been due to medications I was taking at the time.

MarsGal, now that you mention it I have seen the Red Lobster biscuit mix in the stores.  It has probably been at least 5 years, if not longer, since we ate at a Red Lobster.

Marilyne, I don't even own a pair of summer shorts or sandals.  Some years I don't even wear short sleeve shirts as the house is cool.  We need to get to the specialized shoe store so Pat can get a new pair of summer shoes.  We will have to leave one of them to be stretched before she can wear them as her feet are not in good condition.

Jean, I did stop at Yellowstone on my trip back across the country on the move back from Alaska and was able to see Old Faithful and the beautiful scenery of the park.  I also enjoyed the Grand Tetons.  Just a lot of beautiful scenery in the West and the same hold true for most countries.  A month's trip is a long time to be away from your home.  I have had driver's licenses in Missouri twice, Oklahoma, Alaska, Illinois, Kentucky, Virginia, Maryland, Georgia twice and now South Carolina.  Like you this is it as have no intentions of ever leaving this State.  It is always a bit of a hassle but the last one was the worst due to the new requirements for documentation.  It took me four trips to the DMV to finally get a license.

deAngel, no wonder you are tired if your blood count is down again.  I am glad Pat wasn't with you as the one thing she doesn't need more of is fabric.  She even has a box of fabric in the attic that a friend gave her.  She says the craft group at our Church has a lot of material as a lady that had owned a fabric store donated her remaining material to them.  I hope you feeling better today.

FlaJean

Larry, when we moved to Florida 30 years ago it was mandatory to parallel park and take the road test.  I told the attendant that I hadn’t parallel parked in 20 years.  We had a Chevrolet Caprice and I wasn’t sure I could park that big car.  I managed parking with no problem and the attendant said he could see I was a driver and didn’t need a road test.  I told my husband that was a miracle as I was never good at parking.  He said he was watching and praying for me.😇. Now only a written test or eye test is required from people with licenses from other states, but the problem is all the information you have to provide even to change your address.

Marilyne

Yesterday was our grandson's 24th birthday, so we will take him his present today, and have some lunch, cake and ice cream.  Also something on tap for tomorrow, so looks like a busy weekend for a change.

Larry - I'm not comfortable in shorts in the summertime either. If we lived at the beach, where you don't have to contend with AC, I would probably wear them when the weather is warm.  My husband, wears cargo shorts all the time in the Summer and Fall.  The younger men like my son and grandson, wear shorts year around, and also to work!  They are the "in" style for men who work in the tech companies here in Silicon Valley. Cargo shorts and flip-flops!  Times have certainly changed when it comes to office attire!

Jean - I didn't realize that you lived in Morocco for three years.  Sounds like a wonderful experience.   Were your children old enough to go to school, and if so, did they have an American school there?  We used to have to parallel park here in CA, for our first drivers license.  That was so far back in time for me, that I don't remember whether I was panicky or not?  Since that first time, about 1950 or 1951, I've only had to take the written test and the eye test, every four years.   I think my two older children had to parallel park as part of their driving tests in the 1970's, but now it's not required at all in California.

Gloria de - I hope you're feel rested today, after your busy day yesterday.  Lake Tahoe would be beautiful around Christmas time, and I hope you enjoyed your short visit there.  It's one of my favorite places, but I've only been once in the Winter. We used to rent a cabin every year in July, and it was always a wonderful vacation.  Sitting by that gorgeous lake, and looking at the surrounding mountains, drains all the stress out of me.  A truly rejuvenating experience!

I do wear shorts in the summer whether the a/c is on or not.  Unless it is 90+ degrees out, I often take the cat out on the deck and enjoy the fresh air.  One thing, I don't have the cat rubbing on my pant legs because I collect cat hair when wearing long pants.  I try to imagine my grandmother (who died at 92) wearing shorts and the image doesn't come up.  Heck, I only saw my mother in a bathing suit once!  I don't wear sandals but I do wear Hush Puppies year round.  The Hush Puppy factory is at Rockford, only about five miles north of here.

I don't remember about parking when I got my drivers license.  I seldom had to park anyway, because so many places I'd go had parking areas where I had to park head-on, such as at a mall or grocery store.  I do remember a few times parallel parking and I got in OK.  We always had relatively small cars - Corvair, Nova, Omni, Duster, Neon, Cavalier.  One car was funny in a way - it was billed as a compact car but I had to have a block of wood on the gas pedal and I sat on a cushion.  The name started with a V and I don't remember the name.  It also had a stick shift that bent around the front bench seat so we could only pull the seat up so far.  It was not a good car for me.  I loved it when bucket seats came in use with the console between the seats.  I liked sporty cars!  Especially red two-door cars!

Larry, I doubt if I would have gone to the Ford Museum if someone else hadn't wanted to go there.  On the other hand, I remember a cousin from Indps visiting and it was a way to entertain him.  But I would not have gone on my own.  The museum is interesting and the displays are changed periodically.  I doubt I've been in any city where there is a presidential museum.  Ford's Library is in Ann Arbor for the U of Michigan.

Grand Haven is busy with a dredge, a boat coming in the channel and many people walking on the pier.  It's the first nice day we've had in a long time so people are taking advantage of it.

Sandy, I talk the same way!

I reread the sentence and it is rather disjointed and I did not stick to the original subject.  I don't know exactly what caused you to laugh, but I don't mind.  I will say when the temperature is high, I, wearing shorts, do go out on the deck and I take the cat with me - or let him out - one way or the other.  Does that make more sense?

Hi Everyone.  We have a cloudy morning but mild temperatures.  We could have a little rain later today but less than 50% chance at this point.  I am going to go to Sunday School and then come home and pick up Pat and we will go back to Church and out to lunch.  I plan on watching the end of the golf tournament and resting this afternoon.

Yesterday I decided I didn't have the energy to get out and attend my meeting so just stayed home all day. Yesterday afternoon Pat made some delicious banana nut bread.  I just finished a slice of it with my breakfast.  A few days ago I ordered a new white shirt from Costco and am wearing it for the first time this morning.  I am very pleased with the quality of the fabric and construction.  The price was very reasonable at $20 and free shipping.

Jean, I never liked to parallel park and only remember doing it two or three times when moving to a new State.  I was shocked when I got my license here in South Carolina as they didn't do an eye test.  My driver's license says I have a restriction as suppose to have glasses.  After the cataracts if I wore my glasses I couldn't see very well to drive.  I just don't want to go to the hassle of trying to get that restriction removed until the next time I renew the license which won't be until 2020.

Marilyne, it is nice to be able to spend time with a grandchild and especially to celebrate a special occasion.  My son also wears shorts all year round except when he is at work. I never minded wearing dressier clothes to work, which I did for 33 years.  In the last few years I worked they had lessened the dress code to where we didn't have to wear ties during the summer months and had gone to casual Fridays.

Mary Ann, I remember the first summer in Anchorage I could never get warm and other folks were wearing light weight clothing.  However, by the second and last summer we were there we had justed and it didn't seem to cool.  If I have a chance I like to either back into a parking place or park where I can avoid backing out. Is there a separate Ford Museum besides the Presidential one?

Sandy, I am not touching your comments.  :)

Mary Ann

Larry, the Ford Museum and the Presidential Museum are one and the same.  Ford's Library is in Ann Arbor.

I remember being in Florida on what was a comfortable day for me and people there were wearing winter coats - temps in the 60s.  Here today, it is about  45-50 degrees and I am not wearing a coat, just a sweater as outer garment.

Dot was here at 9:15 to go to church and she was about 25 minutes early.  It's almost time for her to show up again, so I'll close this up until the next time.

Mary Ann - Enjoy your tuna melt today! I always picture you having one for your Sunday brunch, whether you do or not.  I'm still looking around for a restaurant here that has one on the menu, but so far, have not found one.  When it's  45 - 50 degrees outside, I would be layered up, and probably have a warm hat on, as well as gloves!  I just cannot tolerate being cold!  I always take a sweater/jacket with me into a restaurant, even on a hot summer day.  After about five minutes, the AC stops feeling good, and I begin to get chilled!

Larry - My husband worn a suit and tie to work at IBM, for all the 40 years that he worked there. He says that there was no mandatory rule that said they had to dress like that . . .  it was just a sign of the times.  That was the way men dressed back then . . . not so long ago.

Mary Ann

Sandy and Larry, I'm not saying a word.

Marilyn, we did have Tuna Melt today.  It was Dot's turn to pay and she asked me on the way to the restaurant how long ago I had had a hamburger so I expected that so imagine my surprise when she brought back a Tuna Melt.  The restaurant was busy and we had to wait a while before our number was called.  Even so there were several number before ours that had not been called.

When I got home, I turned on the Golf Channel just in time for TV coverage to start.  I do know I'm going to take a nap soon.  The cat would like some attention.  I let him out on the porch for a few minutes and he knew he should come in immediately when/if I opened the door - and in he came!  Now he keeps rubbing against my shins and I have my pant legs up to my knees to keep cat hair off my slacks.  Easier said than done.

It's a lovely day today and we are at 60 degrees.  I did not wear a coat to church and was very comfortable.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

A beautiful day today, so I took advantage of it and worked in the yard for a while.  Mostly raking leaves and debris out from under plants.  Now the wind has come up, so it was probably a waste of time. ::)

AJ has been over at our son's house, all day, working on his "new" Volkswagen bus.  I think it's a 1969, but can't remember?  Like father, like son . . . they both love to buy and fix up old VW's. This one is in bad shape, and will take a lot of weekends to restore.

Mary Ann - I enjoyed the tuna melt, right along with you today!  That's probably as close as I'll ever get to one, unless I make it myself.  Oh no, I forgot about golf today!  I really enjoyed it last weekend, and planned on watching it again, but got involved in other stuff, both days.  Well, time goes by so quickly, that another weekend will be here before we know it.

MarsGal

Good morning all.

It looks like another nice day with rain to follow the next couple of days. Temp is currently 39o, but is to go up to 67o. It got up to 65o yesterday.

I expect to give the lawn mower (and me) some exercise today. Yesterday I spend a little time cleaning branches and twigs off the back yard. I still must rake all the pine cones and needles off the backyard before I mow there.

I see that my last post from yesterday morning never made it. I must have hit cancel accidentally. Oh, well. There wasn't much to report. Not much today either.

shirleyn

Good morning boys and girls.  I am back from my little trip to Key West.  We had a great time. While there, Danny's son (who lives there) got a golf cart & took us all around to Danny's old homes and haunts.  Very nice of him to take the day off do that for us.  I have been back for about a week, but it always takes so long for me to catch up on finances & messages, etc.  I have about settled down to the regular old humdrum life again.   ::)  I hope everybody is okay - I just can't read thru two weeks of messages, so I trust everything is okay with you all.  Hoping everyone will have a great day!

Hi Everyone.  The morning starts out very rainy after rain last night and it is suppose to continue all day long and then into this evening as well.  They indicate we may expect as much as two inches of rain.  It is the nice slow rain this morning that really soaks into the ground.  The main thing I will do today is attend another funeral.  This is for the son of the man who lost his wife just a few weeks ago.  He had been suffering from cancer and suddenly took a turn for the worse.

Pat had a good day yesterday and felt like attending Sunday School and Church with me.  After Church we went to Zaxby's for their chicken salad.  It is a delicious salad and I had grilled chicken pieces on mine and Pat had the fried chicken on hers.  It is served with a slice of buttered toast and is a full meal.  We then had a quiet afternoon.  I did visit on FaceTime for quite awhile with my good friend and then watched the conclusion of the golf match.  Another young player won his first tournament.

Mary Ann, I will be found very a jacket on a 60 degree day.  Thanks for the info on the Ford Museum and Library.  We had the same problem with our number being delayed before it was called yesterday at lunch.  However, we eventually got served.  I decided they had to fry up or grill more chicken and they were pretty busy.  I didn't realize that today was your Birthday until I read Shirley's posting.  So here a big Happy Birthday.   :happybday:

Marilyne, I am like you in that I don't like being cold.  I had been told before I started working for the General Accounting Office that the men all wore hats.  So I bought a dress hat and wore it to work the first day and was the only one of the new class of seven hires or other auditors that had a hat on.  That was the last day I wore it. I always worked in offices with professional people except for the support staff with accountants, then with civil engineers, lawyers, etc. I don't even own a rake anymore although need to get a light one as the pine straw has a tendency to get on the driveway and short walkway.  It sounds like AJ will be kept happily busy with his restoring activity.  My son restored an old car years ago but don't think he would tackle another one.

MarsGal, our weather sounds similar for today although our rain should be over sometime tomorrow morning.  We don't have any pine trees near our home so don't have to worry about pine cones although had to deal with them in years past at other homes we lived in.

ShirleyN, welcome home traveler.  Glad you had a great time.  If you are like me I rather enjoy my humdrum life.

Joy, good morning.  I understand from my friend who lives in Gaithersburg, Maryland that you all will be getting some more wet weather this week.

Mary Ann

Thank you, Shirleyn, Joy and Larry for the birthday greetings.  I've joined Gloria de in age - 94.  It hardly seems possible.  The brunch we had in Holland Saturday was my birthday gathering with James and family, Tom is taking me to lunch today and Saturday others in the family will take me to lunch.  That is all I want for my birthday - lunch also cards and/or pictures.

It is a beautiful day so far and we are supposed to get up to 70 degrees which hardly seems possible considering a week ago yesterday we had ice and most of the churches in the area cancelled services because of treacherous driving.  What a difference a week can make!

Shirley, as much as we enjoy being away from home, especially with family, it is always nice to get back home.  I am trying to decide if I want to make one last trip to Indianapolis and it is a hard decision to make.  They want me to visit and I can relax a lot so it isn't tiring until after I get back and I am able to let it all hang out!  Then, I'm exhausted!  I'm glad you had a good time.

Mary Ann - :happybday:
I hope the sun is shining, and that your day will be a perfect one!

shirleyn - Good to see you're back from your vacation in Key West, and that you had a fun time.  I'm sure I would love it there, and wish I could visit all the other Keys as well  I've seen lots of shows on HGTV, where couples are buying houses on the different Keys, and they all look so beautiful and tropical. I love the beaches, and the quaint little villages.

SCFSue

Key West is a lovely place to live.  My late husband, a Navy Pilot, was stationed there for 18 months in the late 60's and we lived in Navy Housing on the water.  Our 3 sons loved to fish, use their drag net to try to catch fish off the pier and use their fishing poles, too.  I had a small sail boat that I sailed up and down our little inlet and enjoyed the sunshine.  We joined a local church and made a lot of civilian friends as well as other Navy friends in our neighborhood.  Key West was one of our favorite duty stations.  Needless to say, we ate lots of fish, too!

Happy Birthday, Mary Ann 🎉🎶.  Yesterday was rainy but today is beautiful with a high of 74F.

We have a Carolina Chickadee in one of the birdhouses and a bluebird in the other.  We saw Mr. Bluebird feeding Mrs. Bluebird yesterday and this morning we glimpsed the Chickadee leaving the nest but that bird is so fast.  It takes a couple of weeks for the incubation period so maybe we will get to watch the young ones eventually.

Larry, I am definitely not going to have 20/20 vision but my vision is much better than previously.  I’m looking forward to getting my eyeglass prescription in a couple of weeks.  I’ve been treated for optic nerve damage in the left eye for years, but thankfully it hasn’t worsened.  My right eye is a “lazy” eye and is in good physical shape.  You are very fortunate with your eyes in such good condition.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY  MARY ANN. :hb2: :hb2:

Mary Ann

Thank you Marilyn, Jean and Joan for the birthday wishes.  I'm waiting for Tom to come upstairs and say he's ready for lunch.  We're going to Blue Water Grill, near here and it is on a small lake.  They try to seat us by a window where we can watch activity on the lake.

The sun is shining and one thermometer reads 64 degrees and another 70.  The one reading 70 is on the south side of the building and always reads a bit higher than the other one, which is on the north side and in the shade.  However, the forecast for today is to get to 70 degrees.

Kendrick came in trying to rub my shin so I quick pulled up my pant leg; I don't need more cat hair on my clothing!!!

I was in the bathroom, stark naked, and the doorbell rang.  I grabbed my housecoat and got it fastened by the time I got to the door and a man was delivering flowers for me - from Tom in Indy.  I'll try to find out from my Tom as to his wishes so I can make arrangements with the Indy Tom and make plans to go down sometime in May.  Decisions, decisions!!!

Jean, I'd love to have a bird feeder here but they are discouraged because of mice on the ground and in the area.  I never have had different birds here, but I did at the two previous houses I've owned.
