WJoan, my Ex (and the reason for being an Ex) went through the transition years ago when folks weren't so accepting. We were best friends when we married, and we remain good friends now, though she lives in Colorado now.

Oh yeah, we (me by association) got the stares, nasty comments and threats, sympathy, empathy, ostracization, etc. My Dad accepted, my Mom didn't. Dad said the one good thing about the whole affair was that he got Mom (who was extremely embarrassed by the whole thing), finally, to agree to move to Florida in their retirement, something he had wished for for several years. I hope things are easier now for TG's.

My best wishes to Adam for a happier life more fulfilling life.

Hi Everyone.  We headed for another day of mid-90's.  It was about that hot yesterday.  I did water the yard yesterday morning.  Pat and I went to IHOP and had a delicious breakfast and then to the meeting.  We came home and stayed in where it was nice and cool the rest of the day.  Pat wasn't able to get much sleep last night so is sleeping in this morning and I will attend Church by myself.  Since this is Mother's Day we will not be eating out but will have some roast beef sandwiches.  I fixed Pat a couple of peaches (they are small) and had a couple myself and they were so juicy and good.  I did watch the golf yesterday afternoon and plan on watching the finish of the tournament this afternoon.  It looks like the winner has already been determined as the leader is seven strokes ahead but who knows.  They are playing on a really tough course.

Marilyne,  thanks for the info on the background of American Graffiti.  George Lucas has certainly been a very successful movie maker.  We still have a Denny's right over the line in Georgia off of I-20.  The times we have been there it seemed to be busy with all ages.  We used to like the breakfast buffet Denny's served.

deAngel, I would welcome a day or so of temperatures in the 50s since we are so hot down here.

Jean, your daughter was wise to encourage you to relocate to be close to her.  When my folks became ill we literally packed up some clothes and a few other things in the car and went from Atlanta to NW Missouri and lived there for nine months.  Unfortunately a good portion of that time my dad was in the hospital and then the nursing home and my mother was in the same nursing home in the special unit for dementia.  They had no other close relatives and we were not going to leave them stranded without someone to look after their interest and visit them everyday.  We needed to come back to our home and so we moved them to the little town where my sister lived nearby and could see to them for the remainder of their lives.  We contracted for a small plane and it took just 2 hours from one nursing home to the other and it would have been a 5 hour road trip.

Joan, we can only hope for the best for our family members and I hope Adam will continue to find happiness.  I hope the family is accepting him. It must be a big relief for him to be able to be open and honest about his orientation.  Fortunately society is now much more accepting than it used to be.

MarsGal, it is good that you and your Ex have remained friends.

Joy, you said it much better than I did.

Mary Ann

Happy Mother's Day to all of the mothers and those who have to be mothers.  Tom took me to breakfast this morning and then left for his church.  He and a friend are going up north to Pentwater (on Lake Michigan) for a cookout if it's warm enough.  I think here it will be in the high 50s, maybe low 60s.  Dot and I did not go to church this morning because she has family from Illinois here.  If I was still driving, I would have gone, but twas not to be!  It does look like a nice day, however, it will be on the cool side, even here.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

MarsGal - It must have been extremely difficult for you and your ex to go through the transition, back when it was not as commonplace nor as accepted as it is now.  I’m glad that things worked out for her, and that you have remained friends.  It’s a different world out there now in so many ways.  We're all learning to adjust to and accept the changes that are going on around us.

wjoan

Mars Gal, well my family is accepting, but his mother refuses to speak to him.  Of course she never was much of a mother anyway.  Dan had  Adam with him most of the time and with me.

Sandy

Good Sunday After Noon  and
happy Mothers Day to all who are....

Transitioning  can be very difficult for
all of those involved....  but having a
loving and  understanding family helps
everyone  as the changes occur...

Sometimes it takes a while for full acceptance,
and that is ok, too...    I think that we all just
want the best for our
children and their children.

Joan, I am glad to hear that  you all are
doing so  well,  and accepting of your new
Grand Son!!

Enjoy

Another cold and rainy day.

WJoan, I too, hope Adam finds happiness in the years to come. Things that were not acceptable 5 years ago, are OK now.  I have to mention a hugh article I read   in to days paper that surprised me,  Just as much bullying is happening among seniors, One nursing home in Calif, during karoke a fist fight broke out.Seniors fight over who sets at tables in seniors centers. (that I have seen, at our seniors) Now nursing home, seniors centers  for the elderly have introduced programs training and policies aiming at curbing  bulling once thought the exclusive domain of the young

Larry, I am not only  enjoying watching the golfers, I enjoy the golf course.  If I was playing the 17th, I would just be happy to land on dry land, I would not worry how far I was from the flag

HAPPY MOTHERS TO ALL :grouphug:

MaryAnn, My neighbor brought over a quise(SPELL) for my breakfast.  They know I like mussles, so they brought a bucket full, along with soup and garlic bread. Plus Ernie mad me a qt. of Bloody Marys  Yay!

Larry and Gloria D - that 17th hole is something else.  But there are a lot of small round bunkers that are quite deep.  I read where they have 83 bunkers on the course.  They have Spieth and Woods pared so we will see a lot of both.

Gloria, I had trouble with what you had for breakfast and it just came to me - quiche.  I can eat mussels, but I wouldn't choose them necessarily.  I like fish, but I'm not fond of all seafood.

The sun is trying to shine here, but it's a struggle.  Mostly we have a dreary sky, just no rain.

Thanks MaryAnn, evenspell check could not spell  :)I am not suppose to eat shell fish or pasta, red wine etc. (whaT ELSE IS LEFT?)  with gout.  There is medication, but I cannot use it because my kidneys are gone.  Again I say so much for the golden years

Gloria, quiche did not come to me right away and I tried every which combination starting with qu and I tried foods in front of the word.  Finally it came to me - quiche with no food name.

Tom came home early this afternoon and they did not go to Pentwater because it seemed too cool.  He and his friend went to a nearby park to walk and had lunch near the park.

I watched golf most of the afternoon and was glad to see Webb Simpson win.  He had a substantial lead at the en but had a double bogey to cut into his lead.

And that was my Mother's Day!!!

Hi Everyone.  After a very hot day yesterday it is suppose to only get to 89 this afternoon.  If Pat feels up to it we will finally go to the shoe store and then probably to Honey on the Rock for our main meal of the day. The only thing I did yesterday was to attend Sunday School and Church and then came home as we had food in the refrigerator for our lunch.  On the way home from Church I stopped at CVS and got Pat a Whitman Sampler of chocolates as knew she wouldn't be getting any presents from the kids.  They did send her e-cards and called and she appreciated that on Mother's Day.I did watch the last several hours of the golf tournament.

Sandy, I agree that we just want what is best for our children and when they become adults they get to choose their own path in life.

deAngel, mean streaks in people can surface at any age.  Bullying is a serious matter and it is nothing new.  The only real fight I had when I was in school was because I was bullied to the point I couldn't stand it anymore.  Fortunately wise heads prevailed but I didn't like my cousin for a number of years.  That 17th hole of the club where they were playing yesterday would be totally intimidating and I saw both Tiger Woods and Jordan Spieth and other put the ball in the water and they are two of the best players in the world. I have never tasted mussels that I know of.

Mary Ann, that pit bunker was also pretty intimidating as they had to shot out of it with no target in sight.

Joy

Gloria,  I guessed right away that you meant "Quiche".  I sure would have enjoyed all your delicious meal.   Love any kind of quiche,  love mussels, along with the soup and garlic bread, and sure would have helped you get rid of a quart of Bloody Mary's.  That was quite a nice assortment for your meal.

Just don't drink all the BLoody Mary's at one time.  LOL

Not a very nice day outside today.  MIsty, cloudy and chilly.

Will check back later.

Supposed to be 97 here today.  UGH!

Marilyne

Good morning. :)  No 80 or 90 degree weather here today, or over the past weekend.  Seems we're in our typical Spring pattern here, which is gray, windy and gloomy.  This usually continues on through the early part of June, before we have to turn on the AC.  This morning it was 47 when I got up at 7:00.    I was glad I had put the warm comforter on the bed last night.

Mother's Day, was very nice.  We had dinner with our son & family, at their house.  The two grandchildren were there, and Sandy came too.  Also, granddaughter's bf was there, so we had a chance to meet him and get acquainted.  We had salmon, in a pasta and pesto sauce, that was delicious . . .  plus, they had recently signed up for one of those home delivery produce plans, and I was impressed with how fresh and good everything was.  Dil roasted a plain veggie casserole, that consisted of asparagus, zucchini squash, and RED carrots!  I have never had red carrots, but they were so good, that I will be looking to find some to fix here at home.

Sandy

Good Afternoon Everyone,
from the overcast,  but warm, rocky coast
of Maine.

Our weather is going to be pretty much the
same for the next 10 days...  pleasantly warm
with not so much sun but many clouds and
some showers.

(Fine with me!)   :knuppel2:

I heard from my kids yesterday...  and
this coming weekend,  I will see Kirk,
Magaly and Keiry.       Now that they
live in Boston and North Berwick Maine,
we get a chance to see one another more
then ever before.

It is nice to have all of my kids
around these days.    For that I
am very fortunate ...

Everyone is doing well...    My GRand
Daughter Maggie graduated from
Art School this past weekend...

Wow are they all growing up FAST.

Have a good day,  Everyone!

Hi Everyone. We expect to have some rain thought out the day and also tomorrow and a nice downpour has just begun.  I expect we will just stay home today and stay in where it is dry with less chance of slipping and falling on a wet surface.  Pat had a rough day with the back pain yesterday so we didn't go out as I had thought we might but just stayed in.  Fortunately we had plenty of left-over spaghetti casserole that combined with a salad made a good dinner meal.  We have a couple of Marie Callendar TV dinners in the freezer that we plan on having for our main meal today.  I will just have a quiet day and will likely do a bit of reading as am into a good book and also a good audio book.

Joy, we are finally getting some cooler weather and I for one appreciate it.  The rain I mentioned above has just about stopped for the time being but hope we see a lot more of it today.

Joan, it sounds like the heat wave we were having has moved out your way.  Hope you are staying cool in your apartment.

Marilyne, we have been using our AC for two or three weeks.  It was 74 degrees when I got to the kitchen this morning.  Glad you had a nice Mother's Day with member of your family.  I have never heard of red carrots.

Sandy, it is nice to have some warm days with some clouds and showers.  Where did your kids that live in Boston live before?  It seems life speeds on as evidenced by your grand daughter graduating from Art School.

FlaJean

The rain just missed us yesterday and looks like it might miss us again today.  Tomorrow is forecast for 80% so hopefully we will get some rain tomorrow.  We had a nice Mother’s Day.  Our grandson had his last cancer treatment and is, at present, cancer free.  He did have another suspicious mole removed a couple of days ago.  We are so thankful as his prognosis was not good when they first learned of the Melanoma.

Marilyne

Jean - Good to hear that your grandson is now cancer free.  I recall that it was quite a long time ago that he was diagnosed, and I know you're all grateful that his treatment was successful.  I hope that the recent suspicious mole will prove to be benign.

Looks like our ancient washing machine is acting up again.  I don't know how many times my husband can continue to fix it, but he will give it another go this morning.  Maybe I'll end up with a new one after all, but not until he has exhausted every possible repair option.  Fortunately he likes working on all appliances, and on the cars too, so this will keep him busy for a few days.

wjoan

Larry, Dan turned my a/c on Friday when he was here so I am fine.  Prefer fresh air but oh well.

SCFSue

I haven't turned my AC on yet, but I did change the setting to the summer mode.  I have ceiling fans in every room, so turn them on when I'm in the room to keep the air circulating and that's cool enough for me.  I'm surprised that it has stayed as cool as it has this spring.  Most of the years I've lived up here, I've had to turn the AC on fairly early.

Stay comfortable, Every one.
Sue

Mary Ann

We haven't turned on the a/c yet but the time is coming.  The a/c does a good job of getting rid of humidity too.

Tom and I went to lunch today at Arnie's in Rockford, a hop, skip and a jump from here.  I had a fish sandwich and Tom had a taco salad.  If I had put the veggies on my fish that came as part of the sandwich, I would not have been able to get the thing in my mouth, so I ate the fish half and brought back the veggies and top of the sandwich and I'll have a salad later.  They give cupcakes with each order, so I chose two and will eat those as the week goes on.  Arnie's is another local chain with several outlets in the area.  Tom is like Norm in that he always drives home the scenic route which we did.

Jean, I am glad to hear your grandson is cancer free and I hope he remains so.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Mary Ann - I can't resist a fish sandwich when I see one on the menu.  Usually they are Pollock, but sometimes Haddock or Cod.  I like when you can pick what you want to go with, like mayo, sliced tomatoes, avocado, lettuce, dill pickles, etc.  One sandwich shop near me, has a "special sauce" that they use, which I love.  Kind of like Thousand Island, only better.

I've been enjoying watching the ships on the Duluth Bridge web cam.  Reading the information on what the cargo is on the different ships, is sometimes intriguing.  For instant, at least once a day, a ship leaves Duluth with beet pulp?  I wonder what in the world they do with beet pulp?  Usually it's a ship from The Netherlands.  That's a long way to come and go, with a load of beet pulp.

wjoan

Candy is having an Ultra sound done today to determine what problems are in her abdoman to cause her such pain.    They can only treat one problem at a time it seems.  Am sure the Insurance Companies had something to do with that.

Mary Ann

#8663
I learn something new every day.  I found the following on the web by asking what beet pulp is used for.  There is mention of sugar beets and Michigan is a great source of sugar beets and it is processed into - what else? - sugar.

Dried beet pulp is available in shredded or pelleted form. It is fed as a digestible fiber supplement to a horse's fiber or forage needs, and dried beet pulp may be incorporated into quality horse feeds as a source of digestible fiber and to significantly lower the sugar and starch content of the feed.

I didn't see mention of it, but if the ship did go back to the Netherlands, it could be used as fertilizer for the tulips - but no mention of that.

I was expecting a ship to leave shortly after 4 pm (EDT) but it left before I got to the site and I can't find it anywhere.  Incidentally, just because a ship is registered to a certain country, that doesn't mean they go back there; it's just where they are registered.  It has to do with money, I think.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Mary Ann - Tomorrow at 4:00 PM, another boat will be departing with a cargo of beet pellets! That means it will be 5:00 pm your time, and 2:00 here in the West.  Thanks for all the information on beet pellets or pulp.  Funny how I was thinking of the vegetable, red beets, but of course it is sugar beets - which makes more sense.  I can see that it would be good food for horses and maybe cattle too?

Joan - I hope that Candy's ultrasound turns out okay?  Be sure to let us know what the results are?

wjoan

Marilyne, the office forgot to order the ultrasound so it never happened.  Such incompetant help.

Lindancer

FlaJean, I just had to post to night when I read the good news about your grandson. Prays will continue that he stays well  I know when my grandson was learning to walk again, prays helped.  It took over a year, and the wonderful care he got in the hospital.

Joan, I hope they find out your daughters problem,  We worry about our children from the day they are born

Hi Everyone.  We had a nice rainy day yesterday and got almost 1 1/2 inches of rain with more forecast for today and throughout the week.  Beyond the normal routine things that have to be done everyday I didn't do anything yesterday.  Today will probably be pretty similar but I decided to try something different in the mornings when all of the morning chores must be done.  I did a few things and began to tire so sat down in my easy chair and worked on my jigsaw puzzles for a few minutes until I felt restored and got up and did some more and repeated the process.  As a result I am not feeling exhausted this morning.  It is not the way I like to work as when I start something I like to see it finished but I may have to change my ways.  Everything got done in the kitchen and I fixed Pat's breakfast and taken care of the dishes.  A little later this morning the tech will be here to do the 3-month check on my oxygen concentrator.  That will only take a few minutes.  This evening I will go to the Church for the Wednesday night dinner and then Scott will come out for a little while.  I never know whether either of the girls will come out.  Tonight we are having chicken and noodles in a casserole as the main dish and that is usually very good.  I will bring a dinner home for Pat unless she decides go to the dinner.

I spent some time yesterday looking at this site:  https://archive.org/ .  It is really interesting as I looked through all of the old radio shows they have archived as well as the audio books of the classics.  The site is titled "The Wayback Machine" and it is a library of  is a non-profit library of millions of free books, movies, software, music, websites, and more.  They apparently have over 300 million webpages saved and accessible.

Jean, that is great news about your grandson being cancer free and that the suspicious mole is benign.  I hope you can get some of this rain.  Has the drought cycle been broken in Florida?  We are considered to be in a moderate drought cycle in our area of the State.

Marilyne, you are fortunate that your husband likes to work on appliances and cars.  Unfortunately I have no skills in that area and have no desire to do so.

Joan, the AC is better than really hot fresh air.  :)  Glad Dan got your AC in before it got so hot. Dreadful that the ultrasound for Candy didn't happen yesterday as she expected.

Sue, we also have ceiling fans in every room but our kitchen and bathrooms and we use them the year round.  As I have mentioned before this heat pump we have in this house does the best job of heating and air conditioning of any system we have every had in a home.

Mary Ann, the air conditioning here doesn't do a good job of removing the humidity and we have to run the dehumidifier during the cooling season but haven't turned it on yet.  How nice to get cupcakes with your order of food at Arnie's.  It sounds like Tom is one who stops to "smell the roses" since he likes the scenic routes. Interesting information about the beet pulp.

deAngel, I sure hope you are feeling better.

Joy

Good morning.

Jean,  I, also, am so happy to hear about your grandson's good news.  I know everyone feels blessed by that news. Wish him continued good health.

Larry, glad that you are feeling better  this morning. Your dinner this evening sounds good.   I will have to check out the link you provided about all the old radio shows.  I can remember my favorite radio show when I was young.   "Let's Pretend"   I would stay in bed on Sat. mornings to listen  to it. I can still remember the theme song.  Will check to see if it is listed on your link.

Joan, that was terrible that your daughter wasn't able to get the ultrasound.  If I were her, I sure would let somebody hear about that big mistake.  Sure hope it will be rescheduled ASAP.

Marilyne, I, too, like a fish sandwich.   I particularly like the ones from Burger King.  They are the best of all the fast-food chains,  in my opinion.   Not sure what kind of fish they use,  but it is a big ,, meaty piece of fish.  Making myself hungry now.

I need to get some breakfast, even tho I have been up a good while.  It is not a very nice morning.  Dreary,,, drizzly, chilly morning.  Supposed to be like this the rest of the week.  We had a couple days of "summer" and now it has cooled down quite a bit.

Hope all the friends here will have a pleasant day.

Joy
