Patricia, I'd be a good third person with you and Joan.  I will say I don't go out because I can't, except to the mailbox or sit on my deck, but I am content to be alone.  I was alone from 1970 until 1978 when Tom first came to live with me.  He was only going to be with me a week or two but it turned into six years when he married.  I was alone again from 1984 until 2013 when Tom came back to live with me.  I formed my own opinions and with no one to challenge them, it is said I became set in my ways, but as I said, I had no one to challenge me.  Tom and i have different religious denominations and different political opinions.  So we do not discuss either religion or politics and we get along just fine.  Oddly enough, we do share many of the same opinions, just not R or P.  Tom works in the lower level most of the day and is often gone otherwise, so I feel I still live alone.  But it is nice at night to know someone else is in this condo.

Kendrick gets maybe 1 1/2 cups of dry food that I dish out each night, also changing his water.  He does not eat all of his food and I do not think he is overweight.  He is a big cat and I cannot pick him up but he is light on his feet and jumps up on my bed for company.  I have two wood chairs - one straight back with arms and the other a rocker with arms.  Recently Kendrick has taken to sleeping on the rocker.  I have a cushion on it and he just fits.

Gloria, your leg condition scares me.  So does June's, but I guess you must learn to live with it.  I don't bleed easily - I mean because of a bump or poke - so I guess I don't have thin skin.  I do bruise occasionally, but I think not easily.  Having A-Fib and high blood pressure (under control), I feel I have enough ailments.

I have wandered ----

Joan, I agree. I can always find something to do other than sitting around a table listening to others pontificate. And they think I'm crazy for what I do otherwise, i.e., classes and computer time.

MaryAnn, Farrah has gotten heavier in a short period, and she is not built large, more of a medium size cat. When you look down from above at a short-haired cat and their stomach hangs, or it sticks out beyond their spine, then you need to start monitoring their feed.

The vet who has rescues of his own, wants her to lose at least five pounds. For a while, I didn't get serious but after her last vet visit and the vet looking at me and shaking his head on scale weight; I knew it was time to stop being lazy and think about her health.

I've had three large cats who weighed more, but they were also built larger as Kendrick probably is.
Feral and abused cats and dogs are often not able to have a good regular supply of food and have a tendency to overeat when they can. This tendency has shown up in fostered and abused children and adults too.

FlaJean

Gloria, I sure hope you get better soon.  My husband has thin skin and bruises quite easily without even knowing how he got the bruise.

Marilyne, when we were last in Santa Cruz, Larry and I walked from my daughter’s house to a little cafe where we had the best veal chops I ever ate.  Just a small place but the chef was the best and I’m sure he probably moved on to a bigger restaurant.

The little Bluebirds have hatched.  Larry heard them chirping when he went out to add some mealworms to the feeder.  Also the Mr. and Mrs. have been busy taking food to the birdhouse.  We should be seeing the fledglings soon.

Marilyne

Patricia - That house is spectacular!!  It is certainly unique, but doesn't look like something that would be built in AK.  I haven't seen any thing in that style on the Buying Alaska show.  The most expensive houses I've seen on that show, are the giant sized contemporary log cabin style, with the high ceilings, massive stone fireplaces, beautiful views, lots of out buildings for snow vehicles and equipment and boats for fishing.  Many of the newer houses feature a sauna or a steam shower.

Jean - I remember you saying that you and Larry both liked Santa Cruz.  It's less than 20 miles from here, and is a beautiful drive through the Redwoods. I used to go there often, when I had friends living there.  Also a beautiful beach and wharf with great restaurants featuring freshly caught fish.  When our kids were young, we went at least once a week in the summer to the beach and the Boardwalk . . .  which boasts of having the oldest rollercoaster on the West Coast, if you like that sort of thing. (Which I don't, but everyone else in the family does!)

Gloria - I agree with Mary Ann, in that your leg worries me!  I wish the doctor had a quick solution to help the hematoma to heal, but I guess it just takes a long time.

I haven't even looked at the boat schedule for today and tonight, and haven't checked any of the cams.  I'll look now, and see if anything interesting will be arriving or departing from Duluth, or the Soo Locks.

Marilyne, I'm not sure what you mean about "It is certainly unique, but doesn't look like something that would be built in AK."  Unless you mean the difference between the Southeast's rainforest zone versus the Interior's forested mountain zone.

There is a lot of well-off folks with, (to me); dubious taste in paint, decor, and furnishings, (I would definitely love the amount of land, however!); such as the earlier post. Below, a log home with views of the two largest mountains in the world outside of Everest. This is more to my taste and is on a ridge. I would only have to do cosmetic changes such as paint, etc. Of course, this is just a hobby of mine, not reality.

I just happened to click on one of the New York Harbor web cams and was able to watch the Queen Mary 2 departing for Southampton.  Camera followed her all the way down the river - including close-ups.  Could see people walking around the outside decks.  What an IMPRESSSIVE ship!!!!  So exciting!

I have yet to catch a boat going through the Soo Canal.  Wish I knew how to get a boat schedule.

Am really enjoying the Harbor Boat Launch webcam in Duluth - particularly about 9:00 p.m. CDT when a lot of boats are coming in.

Mary Ann

Callie, as far as I know, there is no Soo schedule.  I look at the map and if there is a boat icon near the bridge that goes from the US to Canada, I go to the Karl's Cafe site and wait a few minutes to see if the barricade goes up.  When it does, there is a ship coming.  I saw the American Century a few minutes ago.  If you did not save the map site, I'll be glad to post it again.

Patricia, I am sure the houses you showed are grand, but as I am not on Facebook, I could not view them.  The site wanted me to open an account or go to Facebook.

Marilyn, I just checked Duluth and everything is tomorrow or beyond.  I saw a ship at Two Harbors earlier today, but it had just arrived, so no action.

I don't know what I did today but I find it is now just after 9 pm and soon will be time for bed.  It's light enough out to sit on the deck, but the temperature is 69 degrees and I'm not sure I want to sit out now.  We are expecting a storm so I do want to check that the cushions are down.  They're olefin, so weatherproof (the ad said!)

MaryAnn, I suppose Marilyne can see them thru her facebook account. I'm sorry, I didn't think as it is an account for local real estate buyers to see what's available in this area.

Hi Everyone. It looks like we will be having rain on and off throughout the day and evening.  I think this going to be a good day as I felt like getting up this morning.  I had my shower and shaved and then laid back down for close to an hour and read my emails and the postings in the discussions as well as the various devotional materials I read each morning.  Then got up, got dressed, folded a some towels and other things that were in the dryer and unloaded the dishwasher.  So I was ready to sit down and have my breakfast, which I am now doing.  I plan on attending a meeting this morning and on the way home I will pick up an online grocery order from Walmart and then make a very quick stop at Aldi's for about three items.  That will be it for today.  Pat is now up so I just fixed her breakfast.

Joan, nice to see you are happy to stay in your apartment.  It sounds like you have had significant weight loss.  I sure hope that Pat's artificial knee doesn't start to fall apart.

Mary Ann, it sounds like getting the Chinese takeout avoided Jan having to fool with getting a meal. How is her recovery coming?  I know she has her hands full caring for her parents plus all the other things she does.  Too bad you have to cross the busy street to get to your mail box.  Our mail boxes are right in front of our houses so it is only a few steps to get the mail. You and Tom are wise to stay away from discussing politics and religion if you don't see eye to eye.  We each are entitled to our own opinions.

Sasha, it sounds like Java knows what she likes in terms of her food.  Hope you enjoyed your perfect summer day yesterday.  It was a delightful day here as well as the temperature stayed down and the humidity didn't seem to be too high.

Marilyne, congratulations on getting your driver's license and it sounds like you made a good decision to see the countryside and reduce the time you had to spend at the DMV.  However, three hours is still a long time.  We can go to any DMV here in South Carolina as well but the one close to us isn't bad at all.  Your meal at the wharf sounds nice.  You must have worked too hard if you no longer have a thumbprint.

deAngel, glad to see the Tylenol PM provided you with a good sleep.  Nightmares can be very frighting.  Pat will sometimes wake me during the night because I have been trying to yell out of help with my bad dream.

Patricia, it sure sounds like your weather patterns are drastically changing.  Hope you have a good time out with your friends today and enjoy the lunch with Dora. Sorry to see that you are having trouble getting up into the bus.  Your forecast looks like you can expect some warm days.  It sounds like the vet wasn't very nice to you to shake his head.

Jean, it is fun to watch those little fledglings open their beaks and chirp for food.

Callie, the Queen Mary 2 must be a beautiful ship.  I expect one could do a lot of walking on such a big ship.

Mary Ann

I've just gotten up and I'm not attem yet.  I have showered and washed my hair but I haven't had breakfast yet.  I'm not ready to eat first thing I get up.

Larry, I don't have to cross a busy street, but we do have traffic here.  I am near the entrance and some of what comes in does come in faster than necessary.  Others know we are a complex with an entrance but no exit and slow down.  It's just that as we do have cars come in from Five Mile, which is busy, I look both ways to be sure no one is coming from either direction.  Cars may be fast, but I am not!

I had trouble with the Duluth map this morning and I'll have to ask Tom about their suggestion as to checking Java.  I think I do have Java on this computer but I may not have upgraded it recently.  I got the schedule OK.  I got the Soo map but there were no vessels in the vicinity.

I'll be back after I wake up.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Callie - what an unexpected surprise and pleasure to see the Queen Mary 2!  I would love to have seen it, or any other ocean liner.  The cruise ships don't interest me as much, because to me they look like bulky top-heavy floating hotels.  Very unappealing.  However, I've never seen a large ocean liner, and would really like to.

Mary Ann - I cannot eat first thing in the morning either.  First I make the coffee, and when that's done, I drink a glass of warm water.  Then I come back here to the computer and check my email, and then I look at Seniors & Friends and read most of the new messages in the forum.  When the coffee is ready, I get a cup and come back again to the computer and usually post a message in this folder. I don't eat breakfast until between 8:00 and 9:00.

Larry - I like the way you plan your whole day in advance, and then follow through!  I also plan my day, but I rarely ever get everything done that I had hoped.  In fact, I usually only accomplish a few things on my list.  Today and tomorrow I hope to get lots of things done, as we're expecting company on Monday, and I want the house to look better than it usually looks!  Yes, that fingerprint issue really surprised me.  When I  got home from the DMV, I looked it up online, and did find the information that some finger/thumbprints  get worn down and disappear as people age.

Patricia - What I meant by my comment on that lovely house, was that it looked so formal and elaborate!  It reminded me of houses that you can see online, in places like Beverly Hills, Montecito, et al. I think it was the decorative ceilings and furnishings.  Just didn't look like it would wear well in AK.  The lovely log homes, or any of the more sturdily constructed homes seem to fit my expectations.  Of course I know I have been influenced by HGTV! :)

wjoan

Larry, I doubt that Pat will have any problem with her knee.  I had mine replaced 25 years ago and the Dr. told me they were expected  to last about 12 to 15 years so I did ok.  Besides I hear they are using Titanium to mike them now.

MarsGal

I am happy to see that I am very much not alone with not eating first thing in the morning. My stomach does not get up as early as the rest of me. I can remember the many times my Mom would try to get me to eat breakfast first thing. I could force down a spoon or two of oatmeal or a piece of toast, but that was it. The earlier I was forced to get up, the more my stomach rebelled against eating early.

Yesterday was rainy (heavy at times) and fairly cool. Today and for most of the week, the rain will be more spotty and warmer.

There is nothing special going on today. My sister and I are planning to eat lunch at IHOP tomorrow after I check on and feed George's cats. I've never been to IHOP.  Which reminds me, I want to check out their menu online to see what all they've got.

larryhanna

Hi Everyone.Hi everyone.  A beautiful day with it getting to the low 90's this afternoon.  We did get another 1/2 inch of rain during the night.  Today will be Sunday School and then expect to come home and get Pat so we can attend Church.  We will not eat out at noon as plan on going out to eat this evening with Scott as he has today off.

Mary Ann, I think I now have the image of your mailboxes and glad you are not having to cross the Five Mile road that brings you all to your homes.

Marilyne, I would have liked to go on a cruise but just not in the cards for us.  We had planned to do so on our 25th wedding anniversary but I was recovering from heart surgery and we never rescheduled it.  My wife sometimes wants to wait a bit after she gets up but does like her coffee right away.  My following through on my plan yesterday did me in for the rest of the day.  I just don't have any stamina.

Joan, as I recall both knee and hip replacements for Pat used Titanium.

MarsGal, I guess we each have different patterns when we get up.  When I arise I am usually ready to take on the day and am ready to eat as soon as possible.  The last few years I have been having a light breakfast as no longer do very much actual work.  Pat has always liked to sleep later and eat later.  IHOP has a big menu, which I am sure you have seen if you looked at it online.  I hope you like it and are hungry when you get there as the portions are large.

Good Morning Ever One from the cool,
but very humid rocky coast of Maine.     Humidity is what
bothers me the most so I have to keep my AC going
even though it is in the lower 70's.

Here in Maine,  a State ID only costs $5....

(Any person who is a Maine resident, or a nonresident with a mailing address in Maine, may apply for an official Maine BMV nondriver ID card at a BMV office. The fee is $5. )

Which is very reasonable....

I certainly was surprised to see that the State of Washington,
charges a lot more for theirs.

"For a standard WA ID card, it will cost you: $54
for your first standard ID card.
$54 to renew your standard ID card.
$20 to replace a lost or stolen ID card.

Wow ... that certainly is an awful lot.   And hard to understand
just why they charge so much more then Maine does.
Anyhow,  I do have occasion to  use my State ID,
so I  did get mine.

My best friend Jude has had one hip replacement and
one knee replacement.    In a few weeks she is having the
other hip replaced.    And soon in the future will be
having a shoulder replacement.    Which I understand is
also very difficult.

We all have something,  don't we.   One way or the other
old age gets to us...     :D

And so it goes...
Have a good weekend,  everyone...
Sandy

Larry, my usual morning routine is to have a peanut butter cookie (if they're all gone, I have a raisin/oatmeal cookie) with my flavored coffee.  Then I don't eat again until noon.  My noon meal can vary depending on what is available and what Tom might be doing.  Sometimes he fixes something, sometimes we eat out.  Evening is the same but it might be a frozen dinner or Tom may fix dinner.  I eat at any time of the day, usually around 1 or 2 pm and 7 or 8 pm.  My appetite is not what it used to me.

Larry, Five Mile Road runs east and west and our main road runs north off it.  Our entire street has the same name, but there are several long cul-de-sacs off the main road.  We have an inlet but no outlet.

I'm not going to church this morning and Dot will check back about going to the Cholesterol Pit.  I think I'll feel more up to things then.

Sandy, I have no idea what a Michigan ID costs and I forget what I paid for my drivers license, although as I recall, it wasn't too much.  My drivers license is good through 2020 and I do not expect to have to use it as a driver.  I can look up the costs online.  I even renewed online, which surprised me.

I went online to see what a MI ID costs.  There seems to be a lot of paperwork involved but for being over 65, there is no cost.  An enhanced ID which permits a person to go to another country (we are next to Canada) costs $20 for over 65.  A drivers license costs $18.  I'll have to review the necessities before I get a MI ID because it seems it isn't just replacing a drivers license; I must be a MI resident and US citizen, not necessary for a drivers license.  I'm glad I checked!  But I don't think the costs are out of line.

Mary Ann

Sandy

I just checked:

A Michigan State ID card will cost $10 unless it is waived. The local SOS office will waive the fee if: You are age 65 or older. Unable to drive because of a mental or physical disability, including being legally blind.

Sounds very reasonable to me!!!

I paid $35 on Thursday, for my California drivers license.  Cash, check or debit card - no credit cards allowed.  I don't know what a CA ID card costs?

I tend to have low potassium, so I'm supposed to eat something with high levels of potassium, in the morning.  Usually I drink orange juice, or eat a banana, or fruits like apricots, peaches, or half an avocado.  In the afternoon I drink a glass of coconut water.  I didn't like it at first, but now I do . . .  it's definitely an acquired taste!
I eat my biggest meal for dinner, at around 6:00 pm.  I always top it off with something sweet like ice cream or cake.

Today is the last day of this year's Golden Days when the city celebrates its beginnings as a river trading post and later Gold Rush gold camp. It started last Sunday with a rededication of Felix Pedro's monument; the Italian miner who discovered gold at Pedro Creek on July 22nd, 1902.

That find and the considerable nugget he brought to the trading post to sell for goods set off a frenzy and brought all types of men, exciting women, and many characters to the trading post and surrounding hills. The future city in a nod to its beginnings was incorporated on July third in 1903. There are still small privately owned and commercial gold camps, but the gold is a lot harder to mine. Felix's Italian hometown is now one of our sister cities, (We also have a Japanese one).

There are farm team playoffs in soccer, baseball, and softball, golf tournaments and scrambles, street fairs, demolition derbies, music events, University events, parades, cookoffs, and the culmination of a three-member one thousand mile boat race. You also can attend an event that features several different cultural foods and jewelry or crafts from all the different nationalities that make Fairbanks home or drive around to lots and lots of bake sales and garage sales. These go from last Sunday through today as an event.

Yesterday I went on a daylong outing with Dora and other friends to some of the street fairs, the celebration of the ethnic pride cultural event and probably gained ten pounds apiece on all the food and drink we purchased. We also bought some lovely jewelry. I bought three pins that looked antique and a pair of beaded earrings.

It was the garage sales that did me in and threw all my promises to myself away. I found a five-foot four-shelf stand in black and gray for my office, a Crockpot three-piece in one set, three large heavy-duty wide mouth glass jars and two scarves for only twenty dollars. The women hosting the sale were doing it for their college sorority and had electric and electronic cords for customers to test out the merchandise before buying which was appreciated. Today I'm spending on the couch as it's been a long time since I walked that far or ate so much! However, a good time was had by all as we went home broke and stuffed!  :smitten:

Marilyne, I do know what you mean. My expectations of Southern California are colored by news reports and the tales of Hollywood homes.  I also admit to being primed because just before I had read a news report on Fairbanks having the last Blockbuster movie rental outlet to close in the country. I'm not sure why it made the national news but the writer interviewed the store clerks and young customers who were in the store at the time, and all came from the army base. Many lamented the store closing, complaining that Fairbanks was ten years behind the rest of the country, too cold and no malls!  Poor babies, no huge malls!

MarsGal, I also tend to eat first in the afternoon as much of my working experience was in late afternoon or evening shifts. Even now it's a more substantial meal in mid-afternoon and a snack in the evening.

Larry, yesterday was topped out at eighty-six, no humidity, its a dry climate; and we are expecting warmer today. It is sixty now at 9 AM. I have no energy at all today as yesterday was more than I've done in a long time!

Sandy, here it is ten dollars at the DMV for a driver's license and fifteen dollars for a state ID. It is the same for replacements, and they are for five years. There is no mail-in drivers licenses or state IDs and photos are taken at the end of the procedure. I have no idea why state identification is higher than a driver's license? This is from Google. Next year on my birthday I will need to renew which is a long drawn out process as they do everything in the same large room instead of saner, to me, splitting it up.

You may also get a different senior's photo ID at Borough offices that allow you no costs entry for all Borough services, swimming pools, bus services, events, anything sponsored or supplied by the Borough for sixty and up.

Alaska won't need to get Real ID Compliant cards until January 2019. I have no idea what those are, but it came up when I Googled DMV Fees. I expect it was what MaryAnn was talking about for Canadian driving? We are 389 miles from Canada but Washington is just a few hours’ drive south of the southernmost point of Alaska, but you have to drive through Canada to get there. Alternately, you could take a boat from Seattle to Juneau. Up until the mid-seventies many Alaskan and Candian communities sent their children to the closest schools either side of the border.

I had to laugh at one Google site when I was looking up distances for Canada and Alaska. The sentence that caught my eye stated that "The closest state to Alaska is Alaska." Seriously?

Good afternoon,

Sandy, I still use my old licence, also the sheriff  was at the senior center a couple years ago, and we all got ID's with our picture on it and a whole lot of other info. Like who to call in and emergency, and every place has accepted it

MarsGal, I still have not ate at our new IHOP, which is almost 2 blocks from me. We use to eat at the one near the Bourne Bridge on Cape Cod

Larry, It isnearer 9:30 when I eat breakfast now, I use to eat at 6, but I now getup later

Click for Riverhead, NY Forecast

MarsGal

The cats insist on getting me up around 4:30am (earlier if they can get away with it). I don't have breakfast until around 6:30 or 7:30am. These days, dinner is around 4pm.

I just checked to see what PA charges for an ID card: $30.50. That appears to be both for new and renewals.

Larry, thanks for the warning about the large portions. I hope their short stacks are small, but I see in the online photo they use three instead of two in their short stacks. I was up earlier today trying to figure out what to order that isn't super sized in calories. Hah! The answer is - not much.

Quotehad to laugh at one Google site when I was looking up distances for Canada and Alaska. The sentence that caught my eye stated that "The closest state to Alaska is Alaska." Seriously?
That IS funny, Patricia.

Marilyne

Patricia, I also laughed at the comment that, "The closest state to Alaska is Alaska".  I think it was meant to be facetious - just a humorous take on the sheer size of Alaska?  Being as it's up there all by itself, it isn't really close to any states.  Maybe the same comment could be made, in fun, about Hawaii?   Very small, and all by itself in the middle of the Pacific.  Speaking of Hawaii, most people think that the closest state to Hawaii, is California . . . but it's actually Alaska!

angelface555

I agree Marilyne. So many folks in the midwest and northern states speak of vacationing in Florida while there is a local saying that if you want to meet your neighbor, vacation in Hawaii!

larryhanna

Hi Everyone.  I took a letter to the mail box a little while and and it started raining right after getting in the house.  However, it didn't last long and now the sun is starting to shine. We are suppose to have rain and possible storms throughout the day and for the next several days.  Our high is suppose to be 86, not bad for the end of July.

We had a very nice day yesterday.  I went to Sunday School and then came home and got Pat and we attended Church.  Then we stopped at McDonald's for a quick sandwich as we were both tired.  I rested in the afternoon and then Scott came out and we went to a Mexican restaurant for our dinner.  He then visited with us a couple of hours.  Nothing on my schedule for today so will just do a few little chores I see that can be done and probably rest and read a lot today.  I don't plan on going anywhere.  We are planning to have hamburgers for our dinner this evening and a salad and I don't know what else Pat will want to have.

Sandy, that is a reasonable fee for the nonddriver ID card.  I just looked it up and the fee here in South Carolina is also $5.  I remember the driver's license was $20 but think it was raised now to $25 to get the DHS approved license.  I don't have to renew until 2020.  Your friend Jude will soon be the bionic woman with all of those new parts.

Mary Ann, I wonder if I had a cookie each morning for my breakfast if I could live to be your age?  It is a good thought but I guess I come close to a cookie with the nutritional bar I have each morning along with my nutritional drink for my breakfast.  I usually eat the same breakfast and same lunch items everyday until we go out to eat.  At lunch I have a half of a sandwich, carrot and celery or sometimes some raw cabbage, and some cut up apple.  I do usually had a small cookie to finish the lunch.  I had to chuckle when I read your comment about an inlet but no outlet from the subdivision as the picture that went through my mind is once you got into your area you couldn't get out.  Of course I know what you mean by the no outlet.  Just my wield sense of humor.

Marilyne, I am a little surprised that you could give a check at the DMV but suppose if a check bounces they can just suspend your license until the fee it paid.  I will often have a banana with my breakfast as know they are good for potassium.  Pat is now using almond milk in place of cows milk.

Patricia, that is quite the celebration you have in Fairbanks.  Glad you had such a nice day out and found such good bargains.  Was Dora able to get the bookcase in her truck and help you get it up to your apartment? I saw on our national news here about the last Blockbuster store closing.  Streaming and the downloading of music has pretty much eliminated the market for DVDs and CD's.  I didn't even hook up my DVD player when we moved to this house as we seldom used it before we moved.

deAngel, that was a nice service your sheriff provided to get you all ID's with your picture on it.  I hope your leg is feeling better today.

MarsGal, you have mean cats to get you up so early.  :)  I wondered about the short stack also as saw it came with three pancakes but then realized they were smaller around than a regular pancake.  I was able to eat all of the short stack.  IHOP does have a senior menu that serves about half portions.  I like the senior breakfast with one egg, a small portion of ham, one sausage link and one strip of bacon along with one pancake and hashbrowns.  That is a lot of food and the price is reasonable.

I had a dental appointment this morning.  I have a different hygienist each time and I had not had this one for some time.  It was a very entertaining cleaning because she has a bird feeder on her window and birds come and go.  Of course, I don't get a good view of the birds unless she has her hands out of my mouth!

Larry, my sense of humor is like yours and I think I can find something humorous in almost any situation, so I would have caught the "entrance but no exit" too.  Of course, we can exit the same way we enter!  We live very near the entrance.

We seem to have rain in the air, but right now it is not hitting the ground.  The air is quite humid.

I lost my map to the Duluth boats the other day and it seems the map is not being available to Firefox.  I can get the rest - the schedule and the cam shots.  Tom got the Soo map to work in Duluth and it isn't quite a good as the other one - but any port in a storm!  Anyway, with Windows 10, I have Edge so I thought I'd see if I could get the map on Edge - and it worked.

Larry, my appetite has decreased in the past years.  I sometimes eat because I should because I seldom let myself get hungry.  I order a salad or two each time (we order online, then Tom picks it up at the store) and try to eat them within a couple of days or the lettuce wilts.  i can't order celery because we don't use it up fast enough.  When I was alone, I ate entirely different than I do now.  I included much more salad stuff.  The cookie is just to go with my coffee and I am not one who can't function until I've had coffee because I drink flavored coffee and it isn't strong enough for real coffee drinkers!

I think it is nice that Scott eats with you at least once a week.  Tom's son is in Holland and his daughter works seven days a week, so that doesn't happen here.

Today being Monday, I miss golf, however, I was not able to check in on the British Open.  I was glad to see Molinari win because he had not won a major tournament before.  It doesn't bother me if an American does not win.

sat and watched a ship   go out this a.m. and there is one waiting to come in.   Been a busy place this morning.  LOL  Kind of fun to watch tho.
Need to do a few dishes now off I go to the kitchen.  Will still be in the triple digits today.

Mary Ann - I've been meaning to tell you that I received an interesting Ancestry.com message, from a 2nd cousin that I didn't even know existed.  She has a tree showing, so I can see the connection now.  Her great-grandmother was my grandmother's sister.  Somewhere along the line, there was an estrangement. Very complicated situation that I won't go into here, or I would be writing a book! (actually, it would make a good book!) Anyway, this woman is in her early fifties, and she has been searching for years for a family connection, so she is excited and pleased to finally find someone.  I really think genealogy is a wonderful thing for people like her, who know absolutely nothing about family history.

My appetite has also decreased.  The only meal I really make an effort to eat, is dinner. ("supper" to you Mid-Westerners) :) I often skip lunch, because there is nothing here that appeals to me.  I try to eat something though, or I feel weak by late afternoon.  AJ is just the opposite.  He eats a big breakfast, lunch, and a big dinner, and always cleans up any leftovers that are available!  He also has a lot more energy than I have, and absolutely never gets tired, or is too tired to do something or go somewhere.

Mary Ann, you mentioned in one of your posts that you liked croissants with Chicken salad , I think it was.  Anyway, I found some really good croissants at Walmart and made myself some chicken salad and really enjoyed a good sandwich.  We usually eat a toasted English muffin with some good fruity preserves and a slice of bacon for breakfast.  Then our big meal of the day is about 2 or 2:30.  In the evening it is snack time   Neither my husband nor I eat as much as we used to, but I still enjoy food.

Larry, I enjoy your posts and admire the way you plan out your day.   In the last several years our plans are haphazard and depend mostly on the weather or how we are feeling physically.  It seems in this awful heat our plans are mostly when to go grocery shopping.

Marilyne, it always amazes me at how different we all are.  I’m a slow starter in the morning.  I never make morning appointments.  My husband is just the oppositeâ€"wide awake and likes to get his day going early.  However, I have noticed he has slowed down quite a bit this last year.  Old age is finally beginning to catch us both.

Joan, the heat here in northwest Florida is bad enough.  I hate to think of triple digit temps.  We do look forward to our winters here.  It is much cooler in the winter than south Florida but a very pleasant change to the cold winters we had in the north.
