Trying to open any package is misery for me too.  The plastic bubble packaging is impossible, and even food containers such as ice cream in cardboard/paper are difficult to get the lids off.  The little plastic eye-drop and nose spray bottles are the worst for me.  After you take them out of the box, they are encased in a plastic that has apparently been sprayed on.  It has to be carefully peeled, if you can even see what you're doing, and the sharp little edges of the hard plastic cuts into my fingers  Then once you get that coating off, you have to use a wrench to open the tiny cap itself.  An impossible ordeal if you have painful arthritis swelling in your hands.  Fortunately, AJ is usually here to open things for me, but he also has problems with much of the packaging.

Good morning from a dry with no rain expected Interior day! The old weather norm was a rainy August, (Not the deluge we've had!) bringing the temperatures down and the frost showing up in the latter part of this month. However, climate change has seemingly put paid to that. This part of the Interior is just over the line for the Arctic and spring, summer and fall are nominally three months while winter is nine. The five rivers are expected to run bank full for another week, but the rain is hopefully gone.

We have had multiple changes, and we host a climate change consortium with other Arctic nations at the University here, (Scandinavian, Japanese, Greenland, Iceland, Siberian and others).

They are studying loss of sea ice from disappearing glaciers, animal issues due to contamination from antibiotics and other sea pollution and rising temperatures, sea levels and the accompanying severe multiple hurricanes, tornados, flooding, a worldwide phenomenon.
One emergent issue is with the North Pole Sea ice disappearing, natural gas and other resources exposed and the nations jockeying to exploit them. And last, there is concern about the bacteria and other things that have been frozen in that ice for thousands of years that may have harmful effects such as plagues of some sort such as the 1918 flu epidemic.

I need to clarify that huge, (for me it seemed huge!); amount that Etna and Allstate paid out went to the government where those involved only got restitution for care irregularities.

I always use scissors for any packaging or blister packs, and I make sure, any meds are decanted into easy opening bottles for my arthritic hands. I have a hard enough time just holding the coffee pot when I'm filling it!

As to animals, while different, it's because this was a significant hunting ground for centuries to the Athabaskans and the rivers and forests attract a wide variety of game. I can see differences in just my lifetime of how many and what type of animals are here with an increasing population.

Joan, same here. We are said to be the most expensive state medically, and this attracts many. I'm glad that the state passed laws against the various primary and secondary doctors, hospital and insurance systems there are in the lower forty-eight, but there are still issues. Many doctors limit or take only small numbers of those on Medicaid, Medicare or other programs just because they don't receive full market value, something like only 71 cents on the dollar. Yet there are so many clinics and dentists on almost every corner.

Mary Ann

Marilyn, I'm fortunate that I have Tom here to open some medical packages, such as the eyedrop bottles.  Getting the drops in my eyes is something else because by the time I go to bed, Tom is in bed and I'm not going to wake him to put the drops in.  Or he isn't home.  I can tell when the drops get in my eyes and I'm usually lucky to make it.  I wish I could train Kendrick to do a lot of things to help!  Like open a door or ring the doorbell.  Ha!!!

Patricia, I have worried about the animals in Alaska ever since I read about things warming up, seeing huge pieces of glaciers drop into the water and the poor animals getting closer to towns because there is no place to go.  I know you are right in the midst of results of global warning whereas I am not.  But I can see Lake Michigan rising, also the Grand River.  I won't be around by then, but it will happen!

I happen to believe in global warming and I think of those places on the East Coast that will be hit soonest.

Hi Everyone.  Today is suppose to be another hot and mostly sunny one.  I guess it will be a good day for the football games around here, better than freezing cold.  We did stay home all day yesterday but this morning I plan on attending a meeting and then will stop at Aldi's for a few vegetables and some breakfast cranberry drink that I like to have a little glass of each morning.  I plan on watching football today as this is the afternoon for the Georgia/South Carolina game and several other games to watch as well.

Yesterday evening Pat made meatballs and spaghetti in the Instant Pot.  She used some four cheese sauce and precooked meat balls that we had in the freezer and it made a delicious meal.  She added about a half cup of grated Parmesan cheese after it was cooked.  That with some garlic butter toast made a great meal.  There was enough left over for a second meal and the next time we will add a salad but couldn't do that last evening as had no salad vegetables on hand.

Joan, are you close enough to another State where Candy could seek some medical help?  It sounds like the lawyers have things really tied up so that it isn't good for the doctors.

Mary Ann, every time I struggle with opening packages I am thankful that I don't suffer from Arthritis.  Yesterday morning in the shower I tried unsuccessfully to open the bottle of Johnson and Johnson baby shampoo that I wanted to try.  I couldn't pop the cap.  Last evening I got it under strong light and saw where to pry up and still could not open it until I got my nail file and used it to pry and it finally popped off.  I am afraid to pop the cap back on as would probably have the same problem.  I expect your lawn growing season is quite different than here in the south where we can have many days without rain and have very high temperatures and thus the grass doesn't grow very quickly.  I am not in charge of the HOA so suppose it will remain a weekly affair until the two or three winter months when it drops back to once every two weeks. Cats seem to be able to do many things we would prefer them not to do rather than what we would like.  I remember having difficulty getting the eye drops into my eyes when I had the cataract surgery and a number of them ended up running down my face.

Marilyne, I expect everyone finds packaging difficult.  It appears to be an area that has just gone overboard.  The products looks nice in their display at the store but are hard to deal with when we get home.  I guess we all find a way to get by and finally get them open.

Patricia, it seems odd to read that you were having a dry day up your way.  I hope you are in for some better weather and you will feel better as a result.  I saw a report on the news last night about a project that is underway to remove the plastics and other trash  in the ocean that is covering an area twice the size of Texas.  They will built a barrier somewhere in the ocean to contain it and pump the trash into it.  It is an idea a young man had when he was 16 and they have one unit to do the pumping built and expect to build several more and it will still take years to do.  It is interesting how the government seems to always benefit from fines to these big companies and of course the lawyers get paid their fees first.  We found many doctors around here won't accept any Medicare patients whether you have the Part B coverage or not.

wjoan

Larry, I have no idea.  Sorry.

CallieOK

I have the Pampered Chef opener and really like it.

I hate heartily dislike the caps that require you to push down or squeeze the sides before opening.

My rain gauge holds 6 inches of water.  It isn't running over but it's getting close!  There's been a "tropical" somethingorother parked right over the OKC metro area for days!  It's getting tiresome!!!

OU and OKState both have home games today.  Hope they've had the fields protected so the players won't have to row their way to the goal line.   :D

I'm just now getting energy back from a sinus flare-up that hit Big Time 10 days ago.  No fever or congestion but surely was miserable.  The ragweed pollen was very high when it hit.  I hope the rain has taken care of that.

Off to see what my Sooners are doing.

FlaJean

After several days of rain we had sun yesterday and today.  I had my routine 6 month checkup yesterday and my lab work was good except for low vitamin D.  I have been taking Vitamin D3 but my dosage was upped.  I need to get outside more but it is just too hot!

Larry, it looks like Florence (hurricane) is heading in your direction.  The weather channel is expecting it to become a major hurricane.  Let’s hope not.  It’s a little early to tell but they are saying all the models are predicting it.

Mary Ann, I also believe in global warming or as some call it climate change.  I’m glad you are feeling better.

Marilyne, I hope the air is clearing from all the smoke.  I don’t have much trouble opening various things but always have a good pair of scissors and a husband who has a better grip close by just in case.

Patricia, I don’t post often but I do enjoy all the posts and enjoy hearing about your state.  I’ve had 6 driver’s licenses and lived in various places but have never been to Alaska which I always think of as our US last frontier.  Of course, I don’t know if that is correct but from books I’ve read I always think of Alaska that way.

Joan, I sure hope things work out better for your daughter.  I just can’t even imagine them seeing something on the MRI and not counseling her or calling right away.  No matter how old your kids are, a mother can’t help but worrying.

Jean, I hope you have enough health and stamina to make a trip to Alaska.  In 2006, my friend, Jim, and I took a tour to Alaska.  Jim and my cousin had taken a tour of the Inside Passage but he and I were in the interior, including where Patricia lives - Fairbanks.  We saw moose but no bear.  Jim took a helicoptor to near Denali but did not see the mountain because of the weather (we were there in August).  On a tour, you are on a bus much of the time and I don't recall we did a lot of walking, but some.  It rained a bit each day, but no downpours and the only thing we missed was seeing Denali.  I was much impressed by the size of the cabbages and flowers - huge!!!

We flew to Anchorage, took the train to Fairbanks and were on the bus thereafter.  Our driver was from Fairbanks and gave us a special tour of the city.  We stopped at North Pole and went down to Valdez where we went on Prince William Sound and saw a glacier there.  We panned for gold, saw a couple of plays, ate salmon and did more - I don't even remember.

I thoroly enjoyed the trip and if it weren't for my age and physical condition, I'd love to go again.  I had Patricia's phone number but she was working when I called so I did not meet her.

Mary Ann

wjoan

FlaJean, thanks.  Yes we will worry ourselves right to the grave.

Marilyne

Jean - it's always interesting for me to read right here in S&F, about the different weather patterns going on throughout the US.  There has definitely been an increase in extreme weather, in the past few years, IMO. Too much rain in one place, with serious flooding . . .  and too much intense heat and wind in another, causing wildfires that wipe out entire communities.  Then there are other natural disasters like hurricanes, tornadoes and earthquakes. Something happening somewhere, year around!  I've seen the weather patterns in California, change, over my lifetime.  I mean drastic change!  Yes, I believe in global warming/climate change!

Mary Ann - I'll never get to Alaska, (or anywhere else), at this late time in life.  Now I have to enjoy traveling on TV, or on the internet.  I've mentioned in here before about an HGTV program called "Buying Alaska", that is quite interesting, and shows a lot of the different parts of the state.  it's the same old HGTV format, of a couple or family, looking at three houses, and choosing one at the end. However, this program features lots of the scenery, lakes, rivers, cities, and small communities in AK, as well as some spectacular houses, and remote ranches.

Larry - I can relate to your struggle in the shower, to open the lid on the shampoo bottle.  The thing that really drives me crazy, is when you finally get the lid off, and then you see a circle of adhesive material covering the opening, that has to be peeled off!  You try to get hold of that tiny tab to pull it off, but it slips out of your hand and the shampoo bottle drops to the shower floor!
:yikes:

Marilyn, I'm so glad I connected with Jim after my cousin died.  I had done some traveling before that - my dad and I took some nice trips out west and toward the south, but I had not been to New England and that was one of our trips, seeing Mass, Maine, Conn, Vermont and New Hampshire.  I had been in Mass but not the others.  Another trip took us to Ottawa, Quebec City and Montreal, with stops in between.  I had been around Lake Superior with my dad, but Jim and I went to British Columbia.  Another time we went to the Pacific Northwest which took in Seattle and Vancouver BC.  After Alaska and the last two trips we flew to Vancouver Island where Jim's sister still lives.  I forgot a trip I took on my own - a tour to the Rockies from Jasper down into the US at Glacier Park, through the park to a train which brought us back home.  One of my funniest memories of that trip was having my hair done at Many Glacier and the attendant put so much hair spray on my hair that I could not get a comb in it for a week and my hair was stiff until I got home to wash it; I had and have a lot of body in my hair and do not use hair spray.  I was 80 when we flew to Alaska, 79 when we drove to North Dakota and it took us three days to get to our destination, Bottineau.

Enough about my trips and that probably covers nearly every trip I took.  James got here and he and Tom have installed my new window covering.  I preferred the honeycomb I had because it was "prettier" but the cord should not break on this one in my lifetime.  I'll let you know what material Tom's shade is because it should be room darkening.

I'm enjoying having the front door open and fresh cool air inside.

I have to also admit to enjoying reading about the various areas here and for armchair travelers, Youtube. It rates a ten in my book! You can go anywhere and or see anything, including many points of view on Youtube, including bloggers and vloggers from all over the world.

There are so many states, countries, railways, waterways, islands, etc.  Just Google a name or idea or use Youtube's search engine to open up the possibilities. I took a cruise on two humongous cruise lines via Youtube. Then I went on a train that traverses the American West with plush seating and dining cars. All for free!

I have weak hands so often I get a bottle or blister pack open and then decant it into a small ziplock bag with the drug name and dosage written on the bag with a magic marker. I keep the empty bottle for their medical info. After all, there are no small children to get into my cupboards. For the shower, I had a good, (for me); idea. If a bottle proved difficult, I poured it into one of the empty spray bottles you can find at any drug or grocery store. Perhaps unconventional, but a quick spray on my hands works for me, and I use less.

The University here at Fairbanks began in the nineteen century as an agricultural college but later morphed into a sea, land and space university due to the area it serves. Fairbanks, the main campus of twelve, (plus a sizeable sea-going research ship); has one of only nine worldwide "Super Computers." It is a large part of climate research.

So many folks have been politically lied to by politicians indebted to fossil fuel companies that they see and hear valid research and dismiss it out of hand. The entire world is changing, and it is documented. No corner untouched, seen on land and from space. It has already changed our climate, medical diseases and practices due to those changes, (not related to Candy); our nationalism, our food supplies due to variable weather and extreme storms and landslides and soil erosion. It hadn't suddenly appeared out of hand. We were told in 2016 that our corner of the Interior would be radically different in ten years, not twenty, not fifty, but ten. And if anything, that has accelerated.

Marilyne

Mary Ann, sounds like you and Jim saw a lot of the East Coast, as well as much of Canada, the Pacific Northwest and Alaska!  I wish I could say the same, but it wasn't meant to be I guess.  As I've mentioned before, our biggest trip was to Chicago - then through Wisconsin and over to Minnesota to visit AJ's relatives.  We stayed on I-50 all the way to Chicago, but we came back by way of the Dakota's, and over to Colorado.  Other than that vacation, I've only been to a few other states - AZ, NV, HI, OR, and lived in WA for a year.  I've been to two Provinces in Canada, BC and Alberta, and into Mexico. (Baja)

I'm glad you got your new blind set up.  I have two windows in this bedroom, and the honeycomb blind on the front window (S/W facing) has started to deteriorate and is beginning to tear and shred on one side.  We'll have to replace it soon, and when we do,
I'll look into the room darkening style.  The other window faces N/W, so doesn't get as much sun.  I open and close it a lot, so I can get fresh air, but it still looks brand new.

Patricia - I don't watch a lot of YouTube . . . mostly just music videos from old dance bands, or soundtracks featured in movies, as well as short movie clips.  It's difficult for me to sit for very long here at the computer, so I can only watch something very short, or in segments. I much prefer watching something in the comfort of the living room, in front of the TV!   After I write something like this message, I have to get up and walk around - usually once around the outside of the house, weather permitting.  I've spent too long on this message, so my hip bones are beginning to complain as well as my lower back, so time for a break.

Tomorrow is our church's Homecoming Sunday and for the first time, Dot and I were planning to go.  Since my episode earlier this week, I had decided to not go but had not called Dot.  Instead, she called me to say she wasn't going.  She had a shingles shot a couple of days ago and was/is in pain, plus she is in pain from her hip problem and she ran out of the salve she puts on it and can't get it for a few days.  Anyway, we are not going to Home Again Sunday.

I have to pay estimated taxes to both the federal and state.  I wanted to print the form and the darned computer would not turn on.  It is on my #2 computer and I can print from there; I cannot print from this computer as they are not compatible.  Sometimes technology goes too fast for me.  Tom will look at the computer when he gets back.  He's a MAC man and does not like to learn about PCs, but when his 94-year-old aunt has a PC, he does what he can.  I do appreciate him.

Patricia, you once wrote that you let Farrah have grass three times a week.  Why?  I let Kendrick out on the deck two or three times a day and he eats some grass but he only stays out a few minutes, less than ten minutes.  That grass grows faster than he can eat it.  Originally, I put a tablespoon of seed in dirt that I moistened; it was from a hanging basket.  I expected he'd eat down to the dirt, but there is so much grass that it would take a long time for him to eat it.  I've got to keep it watered over the winter.  The grass is on the deck now where we've had plenty of rain.

Marilyn, if I see Tom's blinds, I'll let you know about them, however, his room is downstairs and I don't go down there because I don't do stairs!!!

Mary Ann

angelface555

MaryAnn, for a cat who is indifferent to most foods and catnip, she goes to town on that wheatgrass! I put it up so it has a chance to regenerate as she eats it right down to the nibs, nubs?

She eats her treats when it is special or she believes it is. She makes an entire production out of sitting by the closet while gazing longingly at it and gets all excited if I open the door for some other household supplies. That is until she sees it isn't treats. However, two days ago I ran out of her dry food and thought what the heck and gave her 3/4th cup of her treats. She ate some but then left it alone... so, it is not the treat but the perception of a treat. She won't touch wet canned cat food and isn't that fond of the dry either.

The cat grass dish is very small.

Hi Everyone.  It is another bright and sunny Sunday morning here in South Carolina.  with a predicted high of 92 degrees and a 20% chance of some showers.  Our State is in a state of emergency in preparation of the anticipated Hurricane bearing down on the Carolina's later this week.  Yesterday was a pleasant day and it seems I managed to keep busy all day.  I will go to Sunday School and then plan on coming home and getting Pat so we can go back to Church.  Then we plan on going to Zaxby's for a nice salad with with fried chicken on it for Pat and grilled chicken for me.  It comes with a piece of Texas toast and makes a very filling and good meal.  I plan on watching some football this afternoon and having a restful Sunday afternoon.

Callie, we can sure use some rain over hear and am hopeful maybe we will get some rain from the hurricane although hope not the tornadoes or high winds that often accompany the outer bounds of these hurricanes.  However, it sounds like you all have had enough for awhile.  Glad you are feeling better.

Jean, as we go into the cooler months maybe you can get more sun.  However, that sounds like a good lab report.  I have been watching the hurricane models and it doesn't look good.  I was shocked in the late 1960's when we moved to Anchorage how modern and almost cosmopolitan the city was.  Sometimes our expectations are way off.

Mary Ann, the size of the cabbages and the dandelions are still a vivid memory for me.

Marilyne, severe weather seems to be becoming the norm all over the World as read about record breaking heat in Spain and other places as well as other natural disasters.  Like you our traveling days are over.  Fortunately the Internet has opened up the world to all in way that we didn't have just a few years ago.  Those seals on bottles and other containers are terrible.  I don't know why they even bother with those tiny little tabs that require a pair of needle nose pliers to remove or a knife to cut into and then it leave a stuff on the edge of the opening.

Mary Ann, glad you got your window covering up and hope you like it.  Sorry you and Dot are going to have to miss your Church's Homecoming Sunday.

Patricia, vloggers is a new term for me but very descriptive if they are using video versus the written word of the bloggers.  Good idea about the little spray bottles and that is what I need to get for the baby shampoo so it won't tip over and spill.  I used it for the first time this morning and am not impressed and probably won't buy it again.  Pat wants me to use the shampoo she is using.

Marilyne

I guess everyone is busy today, or maybe watching golf or football games?  Not a great day here.  Uncomfortable because of the heavy smoke in the air . . . especially hard on the eyes, and difficult to breathe.  I've lost track of all the fires, there are so many.  One has been burning since July, and another was put out and then started up again.

Mary Ann - You mentioned that you and Dot weren't going to the Homecoming Sunday, at your Church?  I hope you got out for a while today anyway - maybe to the Cholesterol Pit?

Joan - How are you and Candy feeling?  I can imagine that she is disappointed and angry, at not getting a diagnosis??  It's almost like nobody knows what's wrong, so they're just putting her off as long as they can?

Larry - Zaxby's is a restaurant I haven't heard you mention before?  I'm curious if it's a nationwide franchise, or a local.  Speaking of food, I meant to ask you about the ribs you got at Costco?  Were they already cooked, or did you have to cook them at home?  If so, did you do them in the oven?

Patricia - I've been enjoying reading all of your recipes in the Recipe folder.  They all sound very good, and I may attempt at least one of them next week when our daughter and granddaughter will be here for a few days.

wjoan

She has left word for 2 doctors to call her.  She is giving them til Tuesday to call.  If they do not then she is calling the Health Dept. and going to the ER/  She broke down last night an cried for a long time and decided to listen to her Mom.

Mary Ann

Joan, good for Candy, taking some definite steps to find things out - taking the bull by the horns!!!

Marilyn, every time I came to the S&F, there were no new entries.  Not only that there were no boats coming in or leaving at the times I looked.  I did try to watch golf, but it had rained so hard in the Philly area that the game was called off and if they can't play Monday (a possibility) they'll have a 54-hole championship (usually 72).

I varied my routine by changing from my Light Classical Music channel to Singers & Swing and found music of my liking.  Even Tom liked it; I had it loud enough for him to hear.  Usually with the classical, I have the sound very low.

Dot was in pain which is the reason she did not go to church and as she is the driver, I could not go - however, I just wasn't in the mood and wasn't going to go anyway.  I'm not fully recovered from the problem of last week.

Mary Ann

Hi Everyone.  It is a beautiful, clear and soon to be another very warm day.  We do have a higher percentage chance of some showers this afternoon.  They were in our area yesterday afternoon but missed us completely.  South Carolina has declared a State of Emergency in preparation for the oncoming Hurricane.  Exactly where it will hit is still uncertain but it sounds like the coastal areas will certainly be impacted.  At this point we are not expecting any impact from it in our area here in the West of the State.

We enjoyed a nice hot day here yesterday (we have had 15 days in a row with it getting to 94 degrees or above).  Pat did go to Church with me and afterwards we stopped at Zaxby's and had a good lunch.  We tried something new, which was a sandwich with three large chicken tenders with a hot sauce and a creamy sauce on them.  Pat had French fries with hers and I had coleslaw.  It was a quiet afternoon of resting, then watching football and finally reading for a couple of hours.  My friend loaned he a fairly new John Grisham book called "The Testament", which is a real page-turner and I am more than half way through it and might finish it up today.  He is such a good story teller.  I sort of hate to see it end.  I also put out a container of Lobster Bisque for our evening meal but need to grind up some cheddar cheese later this morning and a couple of other tasks.  Yesterday morning AT&T put out door hangers saying they would be working in our neighborhood digging and upgrading facilities and installing something called "gigapower".

Marilyne, I tuned into the golf yesterday only to find it had been suspended due to the unplayable golf course due to the heavy rains occurring.  It is questionable whether it will continue today but just checked and see play is underway.  California sure isn't getting a break on those fires.  Bad enough when new ones start but how disheartening to have one that was put out to start up again.  I just checked and Zaxby's has 800 stores mainly covering the lower SE States up through Missouri, Nebraska and Indiana and also in Utah.  We had one in the little town we moved from and there is one here in North Augusta.  We have eaten at them often and their main item is chicken served many different ways with an emphasis of chicken on salad.  The ribs Pat gets at Costco are not already cooked and they come in two big slabs in a package.  Pat used to fix them with a slow roast in the oven with a rub on them but the last couple of times has fixed them in the Instant Pot and they are delicious.

Joan, glad to read that Candy is becoming pro-active with her medical situation.  They say the squeaky wheel gets the oil and even if one doesn't like to complain there comes a time when it is necessary.

Mary Ann, the discussions were lightly attended yesterday but perhaps we will be back to normal today.  As I said above the golf has started so maybe they will be able to get the final round played today.  I read that Jordan Spieth may not qualify to go on to the Fed Ex cup championship as one of the top 30 golfers in the world.  He hasn't had the best year of his career.  I listen to all different types of music using my Spotify account with some exceptions such as rap.  I have made several playlists that have a big variety of music from country to classical.  I don't care much for today's country pop music as it seems there is an attempt to sign as loud as possible.  I love Irish and other tenors and show music.

wjoan

Just looked at the 10 day forecast and it is supposed to be in the 70's  for the entire 10 days.  Cooling down for Autumn.

Marilyne

Joan - same forecast here in the Bay Area.  Cooling down this week into the 70's. The temps will bounce back and forth from 70's to 90's for another month or so, before we settle into a Fall pattern.  No rain predicted, of course.

Larry - I was hoping that the hurricane would change direction, and never make landfall anywhere along the East Coast, but looks like that isn't going to happen. I'll take a look at the ribs, the next time I'm in Costco.  The oven or stovetop, are my only means of cooking or heating anything, so sounds like they would do okay in the oven.

Mary Ann -I noticed last night, that the webcam at the Soo, has changed back to the original direction.  I liked the new one, that showed the ships being slowly lowered, but for some reason, they switched back.  I saw that Paul was heading for the locks last night, so has likely gone through already.

Mary Ann

Marilyn, I noticed too that the Soo had switched back and I liked the other site better because there was more going on.  I did miss the vehicles going on the US-Canada bridge, but was willing to give that up for the activity.  When I looked this morning, there were no ships near the Soo and Duluth wasn't active, either.  It's a long time to shut-down of shipping (mid-January to mid-March).

Good morning from a bright but decidedly cool Interior! Autumn is definitely here and the trees and bushes reflect that. The online weather stated that we will be in the low sixties for highs all week.

Apartment maintenance will be busy all week as they are again working on the heat pump and there will be a loss of hot water. We will also have maintenance coming to each apartment this week to check for items needing repair ahead of the larger state inspection in a couple of weeks. Next month is my yearly evaluation to see if my rent goes up or down and any new regs I and others need to be aware of. So, this is a busy time of year.

Farrah is on strike. she has a new diet kitty food that she wants no part of. Unfortunately for her, I am not going to waste a bag of food and we both know she will eat it or go without. It is vet prescribed and dry food so I have no qualms about waiting her out.

Dora and Alan have become comfortable with Duchess's diabetes treatments and she is doing well. However, Bonnie, their other cat, is jealous of Duchess's new attention and evidently tries to crowd in each time as if to say "Me too!"      Yesterday, when Alan was doing the medication, Bonnie slipped in and tried to get between Alan and Duchess. They're like having kids all over again.

Joan, it's good that Candy is taking up for herself and  I hope she hears on Tuesday.

Larry, I hope the hurricane does little to no damage to the eastern parts. I hear there is another Pacific hurricane heading to Hawaii. Marilyne, I am so sorry you are still having to deal with the fires. I am so sorry.

It seems MaryAnn, that you need to rest for a while longer, let everything go until you're feeling better and I hope Dot is able to feel better soon as well.

I think it is obvious sometimes that the US medical care has slipped and is listed last in the top eleven developed nations and the International ranking report stated that patient's level of income determines the care they receive more than the previous ten countries.

Good Afternoon Everyone from the
cooler and more "Fall like"  rocky coast
of Maine....

Hurricane  Florence is looking to be a very
bad one for the Southern States ..   South Carolina
especially ..   I believe even after landfall,  it is going
to slow down and dump a whole lot of rain...

Not a good sign..
Stay safe,  Everyone!

Lindancer

Good afternoon on a very windy rainy day.  Had to see the wound surgeon to day, he said my leg is healing nicely, but come back in another month,, tomorrow I go in to the hematologist for the infusion of iron, they said to allow a half hour to two hours. Maybe I will feel so good after that I will dance a jigg. They tell me how much better I am going to feel.

Patricia,I see the people who work in. the medical field are more sluppy. I speak from experience, as I was in the admitting office for 28 years. We heard about our mistakes from the administrator of the hospital . Now at lest here it is big for business corporation hospital takein over our doctors and hospital. I have met such caring  aides and nurses.  But some office staff leaves a little to be desired. The last time I was discharged from the hospital, I got home and checked my papers and  I had the history of the person who was in the other bed in my room.
To  day I went to my surgeon, they have a new  thing with all your information on it. To me it looks like a electronic game board and is heavy. you have to check it out and say yes on each page if the information on you is correct, if not you have to change it. To day the girl gave me the wrong board twice, so I saw another person
personal information.  Such is progress. Who is winning you or kitty?

Mary Ann hope you feel better soon.

JOAN, My thoughts are still with you and Candy.

Marilyne, to day we are dealing with the tail of that Golf hurricane. They just said there are two more storms following Florence

Gloria, I've mentioned the previous time I went to ER and they sent me for x-ray.  The tech came in the room and said, "Dorothy?".  I said, "no, I'm Mary Ann".  She was puzzled and someone else came in and looked at the papers and found mine.  So all was well.

But, by her calling me Dorothy, I knew Dot was also in for x-rays.  I called her when I got home and she said there was a mixup with her x-ray too, as the tech said the instructions she was reading didn't jibe with what she had been told.  Dot didn't find out I was there until I called her, but nothing wrong was done, they straightened things out.  As far as I am concerned, everything was clean.

I will say having a male tech this time was a bit disconcerting, but I imagine it bothered me more than him.  When I left, I needed help with my bra and he helped me close it.  I needed to go to the bathroom and he wheeled me into one but when I was ready to leave, he was not there.  I stood by the door and a woman saw me and wheeled me to Tom's car.  There isn't much that fazes me any more as far as hospital care is concerned.

Patricia, I just read a jaw-dropper about a hermit: The Stranger in the Woods, by Michael Fonkel. By the time I finished it, it was the author I thought was ill-balanced.

Mary Ann, so glad you’re swimming upstream again.

Gloria, Farrah broke down and ate her 3/4th cup of vet-approved kibble. The winner will be both of us if she loses the weight. After seeing that no treats are available or even in the house, she finally succumbed.

I have to say I agree with you.

I'm presently reading "Hitler's Charisma, Leading Millions into the Abyss." by Laurence Rees and before I was halfway through the first three chapters, I realized apart from a few minor differences; that I could have been reading about a current country and it's leading politician and insider cadre. While more historical commentary and review, it has been a fascinating read.

Tomorrow, the hairdresser is coming to this building to cut hair for the men and women who've signed up, and it has been a tad too long so I'm going to Google short haircuts and see what I can download onto my phone to show her. Right now I look like the little Dutch boy and that won't do.
