I had a couple of errands for today and we combined them with lunch and now at 2:45 pm we are finished.  My hearing aids needed cleaning and I needed some batteries.  (Time out, I got to sneezing and needed a new box of Kleenex.)  That was the first stop but the audiologist was with a customer so could not clean them then and I left them to go to Walgreen's to get my flu shot.  It was "hurry up and wait" there.  I had to wait to sign in, then I had to wait until the pharmacist was available.  When she finally took me, it was only a matter of a couple minutes.  Tom and I then went to Subway for lunch and when we finished there, we went back to the hearing aid place where the aids had been cleaned.  She adjusted something for me because the right one often fell out; something was too long.  I got some new batteries and we came home.  That is the story of my early afternoon and I think that is "it" for the day.  And now it is time for a nap.

Angel, I agree about the individual control in each apt.  Everyone is different/

Marilyne

I haven't checked in here in a couple of days.  Lots of my cousins, nieces, nephews and sister-in-law in the various fire zones.  As of now, everyone's accounted for, but some are on stand-by evacuation.  I just wanted to post these photos from the fire, of just a few of the  pets and wild animals, that were rescued from the fires.  As the firestorm moved into neighborhoods, people ran for their lives, and most pets were left either follow, or to fend for themselves.   I'm surprised at the number of baby deer!

Mary Ann

Marilyn, how sad, but I suppose when you're running for your own life, and you don't have room, the pet must fend for itself.  I cringe when  I see the pictures on TV of the devastation anyway.  I like to think it couldn't happen around this area, but one never knows.  I hope the fires don't get as far south as you live.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

One of my nieces just stopped by here.  She's on her way up to Forestville, to see her mother, and other family members.  It will be a shock to drive through some of the fire ravaged areas.  The air quality is horrible here, so I can imagine how much worse it is, right there!

I see that the link I left in my last post, is of animal rescues from fires throughout California.  There are a number of them from the fires going on right now, but not all.  Most of the pictures from these fires, are posted on rescue sites on Facebook. Some are heartbreaking.  This one that I'm posting, was on Facebook, and was also in the newspaper.  This sweet little cat was found under a car, near the Kaiser hospital that was burning.  I think he's going to be the Poster Boy, for animal rescue.

Hi Everyone.  It looks like we are in for a cloudy but cooler day with it only to get up to the low 80's this afternoon.  Yesterday was a pretty productive day for us.  Pat had her doctor's appointment.  Then on the way home she wanted to go to a particular department store called Roses for something and while she was shopping I went to the Bi-Lo grocery in the same shopping center and bought some groceries we needed.  It was around 1 pm before we got home and after a quick lunch I rested.  Then last evening at 6 pm we had a Homeowner's Association meeting for about an hour.  It was very informative and was glad I went.  We have an Association Management Company so our board of directors makes decisions but the lady who we hire to do the actual work does the rest.  We actually had several people volunteer to serve on the board.  Following the meeting I had to make a quick trip to Walmart to pick up some medications for Pat and also to get some fire ant killer as we have some in our back yard and I don't want them to spread.  I got home and ate supper and before long was in bed.  I had a very good nights sleep and now looking forward to a quiet day at home as we plan to stay home all day.  This evening I want to watch the Clemson/Syracuse football game and fortunately it starts at 7 am so should be able to stay awake to watch the entire game.

Joan, it helps not having those outside walls when it comes to the heating and cooling.  However, sure it won't be long until you will need more heat.

Patricia, your writing is fine as far as I can tell.  Hope you enjoyed the brighter and warmer weather yesterday. The last report I saw on the hurricane Ophelia is that it is no threat to the USA but may be a problem for Ireland although haven't seen a late report for today.

Mary Ann, you had a pretty busy day yesterday.  Hope your hearing aids are doing a better job now.  Did you have to wait for them to warm the flu vaccine?  When I got my shot the other day I had to wait a few minutes after I turned in the paperwork for that reason.  I didn't even get a very sore arm from the shot.

Marilyne, I loved the little picture of the dog dressed up in the fireman's gear although expect the dog wasn't thrilled. At least those people on standby have time to gather important things and have them in their cars in case they have to evacuate.  I read something yesterday about a lady who had to shop at Walmart in robe and slippers as she had no time even to dress before having to get out of the way of the fire.

Bubble, that was a very touching video you shared.

larryhanna

I had to come back in and post a second time today as just watched this video and it is very heart warming and nice.  I hope it touches you as it did me when I finished watching it my eyes were not dry.  https://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=n1Pbu2ZANGk

Larry, I don't know if the pharmacist had to warm the flu vaccine or not.  I had to wait quite a while for anything to happen, then there were two people ahead of me (a couple) so by the time it was my turn, the vaccine should have been at the right temperature.  They recommend a certain strength vaccine, I think for seniors, and that is what I got.  I felt no pain either before or after the shot.

Tom has left for lunch with a friend and I'll see what I can come up with.  It may be a cottage cheese/tomato salad.  I have to eat what is in the refrigerator, you know.

Tom has been invited to a wedding in Palm Springs CA and he's cogitating as to whether he will go or not.  After he makes a decision, I will cogitate to see if I want to go.  Tom's friends live in Petoskey MI but have property in Palm Springs.  The wedding will be late December.

Good morning from a cloudy but turning more blue skies, Interior! Last evening or this morning at one AM, I noticed the outside silence as I was preparing for bed. We had snow! It was very fluffy with a lot of moisture content and a minimal amount of cover, but it was there! This morning it is on some lower roofs, a few car tops and a little pile of slushies rapidly turning into puddles, but winter has noticeably made its mark. The lack of street sounds remains except for more sounds of sirens. I expect the news this morning will be the expected increase of down in the ditch or increased fender anticipated benders.

Farrah is still making her way through unwanted wet food with a few kibbles mixed in. She is not a fan, but when needs must as, its said. Farrah is still making her way thru her first can of liver pate. It is the only meat or fish she will attempt, so that is what she gets!

Bubble, what a sweet video and what a loving young groom! I have a friend Casey who is in his early forties and has not and will never go through puberty. He remains the size of an eight-year-old and spends his breaks playing with matchbox cars. He works at the University film library running the high-speed machines that clean, rewind and repair 16MM films along with other assigned duties.

He remembers your name and details about you forever once learned. For example, I left Media Services at the University in 1981, but it is as if it was yesterday when he sees me again. You name any television show back in the sixties, and he will accurately sing or hum and play the theme song on a piano. He is a savant who has Down's Syndrome and will never understand the concept or use of money. Or remember where the bathroom is between trips.

Or grow up, marry and have kids, but he enriches everyone's life who knows him merely through his encyclopedic knowledge of what he does retain and can do. The machines he uses at work can take a finger or more if you're not paying attention and he has worked there since 1974. He was one of the first who brought home to me how the brain has many chambers and many avenues we just do not understand or are aware.

Larry, what a kind heart Campbell has! I have heard it said that great and beautiful things happen when a child is taught either consciously or not, to help those around them, to look outside of their concerns. It was questioned when some people at high cost saved others, sometimes at the loss of their own lives such as in the Holocaust and then with those who did not.

It was also displayed in Rwanda, and in Croatia and Yugoslavia's violent breakup. It turned out to be that those helping had been raised to look outside of their own needs and wants and others had not. They were unable in any way to ignore the suffering of others even if it meant turning evil on themselves. And it is to my mind, one of the fundamental reasons humanity is still here.

Marilyne, the plight of those, no matter human or not, in the path of those fires is horrific and ongoing. Last night it was over 3500 burned structures and 400 unknown still missing. I haven't seen the news this morning. The damages around the world will have astronomical costs and what of next year?

My first and last flu shot was in 2005. My first and last case of any flu and with actual visible running chills was shortly afterward. I have never repeated the experience.

Joan, I do not like living in an oven. Nor do I like wind chill or cool breezes chilling me. I have a small space heater that I run for twenty minutes or so each morning, and I then am fine no matter what cold weather outside. I would hate my apartment to be the oven the halls seem to need in cold weather! Individual preference.

wjoan

Angel, my son will not let me have a small heater.  He is afraid I might knock it over and he is probably right.

They're not for everyone and they can use a lot of electricity. But luckily I don't have to pay utilities here.

Hi Everyone.  It is an overcast morning with just a very light mist falling.  We will get to the mid-80's today.  I plan on attending a meeting this morning and then spending the rest of the day quietly with some college football games on the TV.  I did watch Clemson lose their football game to Syracuse last night.

Yesterday evening I spoke to one of my first cousins that just this week moved to Oregon to go into an assisted living facility where she could be about 5 minutes from where her daughter lives.  She told me that her two sisters lived in the Napa Valley and both had evacuate their homes due to the fires but she didn't know whether they had lost their homes or not.  She still has her home that is not in the fire area and both of the sisters had gone to stay at her home.  I had not realized that they lived in the Napa Valley.  I also have a first cousin that lives in Oakland, who is the brother of these three sisters, and am going to call him as it has been a long time since I talked to him and perhaps he will have a current status of things out there.  I have quite a few first cousins on my mother's side of the family but we are not close and seldom communicate.  A number of years ago I put together a family reunion that was held in Denver and all of the first cousins and a number of their children and grandchildren attended.  That was a one and done event as no one else was interested in taking on the responsibility.  We had a great time and think everyone enjoyed it.  I hadn't seen most of my first cousins in 50 years or more at that time.

Mary Ann, I also received the extra strength flu vaccine that is recommended for seniors.  A trip to Palm Springs in late December would be very nice.  However, flying anymore is really not a fun thing to do.

Patricia, I have always loved that silence that occurs outside when it is snowing and the wind isn't blowing.  It sounds like Farrah isn't a happy cat!  :) It is wonderful that your friend Casey is able to have a job to go to each day and I bet he does it extremely well.  A mind is certainly a complicated part of a body.  I think of all of the volunteers that are helping others in the disasters our country has faced in the last couple of months, some of whom have lost their own homes and put their lives on the line for others.

Joan, your son is wise as with your eye problems you might not notice knocking over a space heater.  I do think they now make them with automatic shutoffs if they get tipped over but not certain about that fact.

Jeanne Lee

I started to put together an order for Walmart pick up in another few days and it seemed that almost everything was "out of stock".  I started to wonder whether the store was getting ready to close, or to shut down the grocery department.  I began to wonder what I would do if either of those things happened.  Than I thought "It could very well be a shortage because so much is being sent for emergency  relief."  For that I would certainly be patient, expecially since most of what I would order is "want" not "need".  Or maybe God is just reminding me that He is in charge.   So I'll wait to see what comes next.

My CA relatives live more in the LA area but I'll have to e-mail them to find how things are in their areas.  One lives in Madison WI, but has children in CA.  Terry's son lives in S Pasadena which at present is far away from the fires, but with the way the fires spread, who knows, we might lose the entire state of California!

It is dreary here and we are expecting storms, but so far radar shows everything south of us.  That has been happening a lot lately.

I'll be doing more of what I usually do - putz around.  I did get my bed made this morning without the help of Kendrick which is quite a feat.

Tom has been driving in the morning lately and has come home.  He enjoys driving and makes a lot of runs, some short, some longer, but it is tiring anyway.

I've showered and washed my hair and I'm drying off.  I'll get dressed within the hour.

Jeanne Lee, I don't know what kind of things you ordered, but if produce, so many of those items come from California.  That could account for "out of stock".

Larry, son turned on heat yesterday so that will work for me.  Besides, if I get a chill I can always go wrap up in the comforter.  That has worked for me before.

Lindancer

Good afternoon, been raining all day,  Yesterday was so cool, I had to put the furnace on.  I have good days and bads, so taking it easy, I am still using the rollator. It was a week yesterday since I fell.  My whole left side is one big black bruise.

Patricia, thank you for sending me the information.  Kent animal shelter, is just about a half mile away, but they do not take strays anymore. Beside they are taking in animals from all the disasters areas to they are all overloaded now.

Larry good you are taking it easy to day, I do not see much interesting golf.  I think all the big names are resting.

MaryAnn, Taffy is very unsettled with my nephew staying here to help me.

Gloria, I know Kendrick would be uneasy if there was someone here other than Tom or me.   I went after the mail today and he's been trustworthy enough that I can let him out on the front stoop while I go across the street.  It has been raining slightly but not right now.  The temp is around 60 degrees, but the air is raw.  I opened the door, Kendrick went out and came back in, in one action.  I had to laugh.  He probably thought I was crazy to go out in such weather.  I was probably out less than five minutes - but a lifetime to a cat.

I think the men are not golfing for a while but I could get the LPGA.  The thing is I am not interested in watching the women - and it is for a very silly reason; I don't like their dress as they all wear different outfits.  I mean some wear Bermuda shorts, others regular shorts, others short shorts, Capris, tights, skirts, slacks.  I am not so distracted by the men's clothing.  I know, I'm an old fuddy-duddy.

Maybe I'll take a nap.

Mary Ann

Lindancer

MaryAnn, I thought I was the only one who did not care for women's golf and I really don"t know why.  I played with a group of women and had a lot of fun.  In all the tournaments I played it was both men and women and we played shotgun. In all the times I played i won one trophy for hit closest to the pin.  Have to brag about something ::)

Since I have been  at the computer the temp has gone down 3 degrees, never made 70 and the weatherman had said mid 70 for to day

Good morning. Another gray, wet, dreary day here but as usual, all the snow has melted away. It will be a week or so before we get a first snow that will stick. Last night was quite foggy, and there are still bits and pieces of that remaining at 10:25 AM.

I am debating rearranging my bedroom again as now the bed is directly flush with the window and while I go to sleep without the comforter, morning arrives with me all snuggled like a bug in a rug. I'm also just lazy enough to put it off as those 23 paintings will need to be moved, and while not a hard task, it is a consuming one.

One of these days I will get a couple of friends in and get some of these up on the wall. I have 23 left out of my 29 originals that I bought here. It is just that hanging is a two person job and I can no longer be one of those two persons. So, they sit, stacked against a wall.

Larry, the two heaters  I have are only about a year old and those newer heaters are set to turn off if they reach a particular heat or if they are tipped or have fallen over. I do not know about the older ones, but the newer ones cannot achieve a UL rating or sold without those features.

Farrah certainly wants me to know something. She is unlucky in that I am controlling what she eats and am slowing phasing out kibble and introducing more canned or wet food. Her vet isn't helping as she makes all of her own pets' food and online vets do not recommend dry food as it is filled with cheaper grains to make up unneeded bulk and some meats are scraps, organ meat or chicken which can cause side effects in some animals.

Another issue is how old that bagged food is? How long in the warehouse or storeroom? So many bags are when analyzed filled with unneeded fillers, sugars, salt and fats, dust, allergens and or insect parts. It is just not recommended any longer for cats, (I don't know about dogs).

I am off to a birthday party this evening.  One of my friends' great-grandson has turned four, and his theme is Tonka Trucks. Remember those?

I hope everyone who is or has been in the path of those fires will be found safe and that the damages are not insurmountable.

While everyone else in my family has or had enjoyed and played golf, I did not. I am not one to watch sport unless someone I personally know is involved in the game. I was a junior high school basketball cheerleader but didn't carry that past my sophomore year in high school.

Mary Ann

Patricia, I'm sorry, but Kendrick eats dry cat food every day and he eats about the same amount every day.  I change it at night and he's anxious for me to put the dish down.  He's four years old now and I think he should have a visit to the vet just to see how he "is".  Annie said she will take him, but she works seven days a week and does get a day off occasionally.  She works for her boy-friend and lives with him so it is hard to arrange anything.  I know the cat weighs 15 pounds but he is a big cat and doesn't seem to be fat.  I have read that cats will eat only as much as they need and I think Kendrick fits that category.  I make sure he has enough water to drink and there is not much left in the dish when I change it.

I have my bed on a wall perpendicular to the windows of my bedroom.  I have had the bed on the window wall, but it is a north wall and the wind does blow strongly from that direction at times.  I cannot hang pictures by myself any longer and I have a lot that could be hung but they won't be.  Often if I am the only one who wants something done, I forget it.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Good afternoon to everyone:  It's been a few days since I posted, although I did look in a couple of times.  I've been too concerned with the fires, and with relatives in the fire area, and of course - the thousands, of domestic pets, farm animals and wild animals, that have been burned, injured, et al.  Veterinarians have come from throughout the state, and clinic shelters have been set up to treat as many animals scan be found.  The ones needing serious surgery, are airlifted to University of Cal/Davis Veterinary hospital.

It will be a long time (if ever) until things return to normal in the burned out zones. Many lives lost, which is the saddest, and of course countless historical buildings, three thousand/plus homes, wineries, and acres and acres of vineyards, farmland, and forests.

When this is finally over, I'm afraid that something else will pop up somewhere in the USA.  Seems like a disastrous hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, fires happening for the past couple of months. So far no earthquakes!! (knocking on wood, as I write)!

MaryAnn - Now you have my curiosity up!  I'll have to tune in to women's golf, and take a look at the clothing worn by the golfers.  The women tennis players always look nice and pretty much all the same, with their short tennis dresses.

Gloria de- I used to love to play golf when I was younger. The thing I liked best, was going to the driving range, and hitting a couple of buckets of balls.  A real stress reducer!

Patricia - I have a DeLongi heater, that is wonderful. Puts out steady heat, and can be set to a certain temperature.  It's the one that looks like a small radiator.  It's very safe, and would take a major effort to tip it over.  It also will automatically turn off, if it falls over.

Mary Ann

Gloria - at 6:15 pm I am watching the PGA tour with the men and they are in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.  As always there are names I don't recognize, but there are many that I do recognize.

Marilyn, you're right about women tennis players wearing the short skirts but that is more or less their uniform.  The women golfers seem to wear whatever suits their pleasure.

Tom and I went out for supper tonight and I had Beer Battered Cod (five pieces) and it was good.  And it was HOT!  (Temp wise, not spice wise).  With cole slaw and pub fries (only brought a few fries home).  Afterward he went to see  his lady friend, then will drive.  It is raining and his theory is that others won't like to drive in the rain whereas, he doesn't mind it at all.

Tom brought in my house plants yesterday and left the amaryllis outside for a few days as long as it is warm enough outside.  Those will go downstairs for the foliage to dry up and around Christmastime I might have some flowers appear.  I hope.

Hi Everyone.  This morning is starting out foggy but it is to be sunny and in the mid-80's this afternoon.  I do plan on going to Sunday School and Church although am going to have to push to find the energy.  I think I overdid a bit yesterday morning as was exhausted by the time I got home and was tired the rest of the day.  Pat is not going with me this morning as the other side of her back, from the one that gave her so much grief, is now starting to do just what the other side did.  She said the thought of having to sit for two hours in the chairs in the Sunday School room and then in the pews isn't appealing to her this morning.

Mary Ann, I heard on the news last evening that now around 6,000 structures have been lost in the fires in the Napa Valley area.  I am glad Tom is getting the driving work and driving in the daylight must be easier than in the dark.

Joan, glad to know you can stay warm now.

deAngel, after the long golf season I expect many of the pros are pretty burnt out and need some rest.  Of course, there are tournaments all over the world so suppose they can probably find someplace to play in a tournament if they want.

Mary Ann, the women golfers play wonderful golf as well as the men.  Some of the men's outfits are a little startling also in terms of colors although they do basically dress alike.  I see in your later posting that you have located a PGA tour in Malaysia.

Patricia, when we moved to this house we didn't hang up all of the pictures we had on the walls in our other home and we haven't missed them.  Of course, they are not originals other than one of a lassie dog that a friend of my Grandparents painted probably over 100 years ago.  It has the saddest eyes but is a cherished item.  Thanks for affirming my comments about the space heaters turning off if tipped over. I do remember Tonka Trucks from my children's days.

Marilyne, the fires out your way became personal to me when I talked to my first cousin a couple of days ago and found two of her sisters and I don't know how many family members have been forced out of their homes.

June Drabek

Gloria de, same thing happened to me last time I fell. I had a small mark on my back, but days later my whole right side...back and front, turned black as the ace of spades. Maybe that is part of our artery disease.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Good morning from a stark gray, brown-black Interior. No longer any snow or in the forecast, but cold and dreary looking out. Even the birds are hiding out.

Marilyne, the news from California has been horrifying.  The actual toll may never be known.

Larry, that little boy didn't want ice cream and he didn't want chocolate cake, or at least not then.  His eyes got bigger and bigger each time a new Tonka truck was revealed. He could have started his own mini construction company!  ;)

MaryAnn, an average cat, will eat only when it's hungry about the same as a human will eat only when it's hungry. Each cat as with each human will be different. "On the average, a domestic house cat will weight between seven to nine pounds but an adult cat may weigh as little as five pounds, and some of the larger breeds such as a Maine Coon can be 15 pounds and be healthy." From Google.

According to The Boston Cat Hospital, "The largest breeds of cats are the Ragdoll, Maine Coon, and Norwegian Forest, with males weighing 15 to 20 pounds. In the majority of domestic cats, the average weight of the adult un-neutered male (tom) is 8.6 pounds, compared with 7.2 pounds for the un-spayed female (queen)." Farrah is more plump at nine pounds but she does leap and dash about regularly so I feel it is from breed more than weight. She would eat only treats all day if allowed.

"We know there's nothing simple about getting a cat to sit on a scale. Fortunately, it's pretty simple to determine if your cat is overweight without knowing the numbers. Try these tricks to determine if your kitty is on the healthy side of the scale or not.

Can you feel your cat's ribs? You should be able to handle each rib distinctly with just a little fat covering beneath the skin. If your cat's ribs are visually protruding, your cat is too thin. If you cannot feel his ribs at all, your cat is obese.
When you look at your cat from above, can you see his waist? A cat's waistline should go inwards. If your cat does not have a distinct waist or if it protrudes outwards, it is likely that your cat is overweight.
Check the bony areas of your cat's body. You should be able to feel the bones of the spine, shoulders, hips, and base of the tail. There will be a slight fat covering, but the bones should feel prominent.

When you view your cat from the side, does it have an abdominal tuck? Is the diameter of the cat's waist smaller than its ribcage? If so, your cat is within a healthy weight range. If the waist is the same size or larger than the ribcage, your cat is likely to be carrying extra weight."

Farrah is nine pounds and she dashes and leaps about regularly and sleeps several hours from late afternoon into the early evening like most cats. I don't leave her food down, she gets fed twice but with the wet food while she transitions, she eats less. Duchesse eats probably about the same, but I've heard that Bonnie will scarf hers down and then try to elbow Duchess out of the way to eat hers too.

Fred on the other side of the hall from me doesn't eat as much as his owner feels he should but has good vet visits. Sam downstairs, a massive mixed breed, eats a 5 ounce can daily. All these cats are healthy and different in how and what they eat.  Mazie and her owner are both on diets. Mazie evidently has little desire for more than eating and sleeping, and the last visit weighed 19 pounds. I wouldn't attempt to guess her owner's weight, but she feels her cat is suffering as much or more than she as all human food has been forbidden and Mazie is "stuck eating some disgusting food from the vet!" End quote.

Patricia, as I've said, Kendrick gets dry cat food.  I have the bag of food in another bag because if the container material allows, he will chew on the paper.  The bag the bag is in is of some material where he either cannot or does not try to chew it.  When I can get the bag of food out, I will see what is in the food.  I tried, but the bag is heavier than I want to pick up.  The reason I know his weight is that when Annie was here I had her pick up the cat and we weighed both of them, then weighed Annie alone.  There was 15 pounds difference.

Kendrick gets his exercise at night when he might suddenly race around.  He also gets some when he jumps up on my bed.  He is not gentle about it, nor when he jumps to the other side of me; I have to watch that he doesn't jump on me.

I think our temperature was 65 this morning, but it has gone down to 53 now.  I am OK in this room, but when I was in the living room beside the slider, I was chilly.  Kendrick has his fur coat on so he doesn't mind.  Dot and I were cool at The Cholesterol Pit this morning too and I thought they might still have their a/c on, but I looked at a flag blowing up on the avenue (I can see it from my living room) and the wind is coming from the north.  At The Cholesterol Pit we were near the windows on the north side.  We had Tuna Melt today in case anyone is interested.  Along with a Pumpkin Cream Pie.  Yum!

Tom and I decided yesterday that we would not go to California to his friend's daughter's wedding.  Tom realized his friend would be busy and would not be able to be with him much.  We also would have to rent a car, maybe a motel.   Tom wondered if I wanted to go to CA and I said "not particularly", so that settled it.  Terry's son lives in South Pasadena and the wedding will be in Palm Springs so we wouldn't be able to see  him.  Good decision.

Lots of whitecaps on Lake Michigan and I swear I saw someone surfing.  I also saw a couple of people walking a dog.  They must have moved the camera a bit because the outer lighthouse is not visible.  They may get some complaints about that because that's where waves hit against in windy weather and put on quite a show.

PS  I just looked again and the outer lighthouse shows.

Mary Ann - I'm always interested in your Sunday visit to The Cholesterol Pit. Love those tuna melts, and the pies and everything else you mention.  Whenever I go to such a restaurant, I usually end up ordering a grilled cheese sandwich, with avocado or bacon. (or both).  I used to love milk shakes or malts, but I can't deal with milk anymore.  Although I've never been tested, I'm pretty sure I'm lactose intolerant. Can't eat ice cream either, or a glass of milk. However, cottage cheese, yogurt and regular cheese doesn't bother me.

Winnie ate nothing but dry food, for the first five or six years that we had him.  We "inherited" him from my older daughter and granddaughter when he was about seven or eight, so we didn't have him for his full nineteen year lifespan.  They had given him nothing but kibble, so we continued on with that for many years.  It was only the past three or four years that I started buying canned food.  I read on the internet that wet food is better for cats as they get older, for a number of reasons.  He was a good eater, not at all picky, so was happy with whatever I fed him.  I usually kept a pan of dry kibble out all the time, and water of course.  I gave him the wet food first thing in the morning, and sometimes in the evening.  I guess we must have done right by him, as far as food choices go, because he lived for nineteen years, and was very healthy until that last month.
