Mary Ann, sounds like a wise move, that Dot decided to turn around and go back home.  When the Church service was over, it might have been a lot worse, and hard to get back home again.  I hope Tom, brings you something to eat later, since you also missed the Cholesterol Pit.

What a fun birthday party for the twins!  I can remember those one year old parties for my children! ;D Always a big mess, that required a bath afterwards. I hope you or Tom took some pictures of Eleanor and Johanna, so we can see how they've grown in the past year.  Are they both walking?

Mary Ann

Marilyn, neither girl is walking yet, remember they were preemies born about two months early and Alicia feels they are keeping up on their suggested birth date of April 1.  Both do stand when holding on to something, so walking should be soon.  Johanna now has two teeth and Ellie is working on it.  Both girls were so good yesterday, sat on a lot of laps, including mine, no crying until the last when they wanted bottles, and even then it wasn't crying but a noise to let us know what they wanted.  I don't know how much of the cakes they got because some landed on their faces and chairs and Johanna took a big handful and plopped it on the floor.  The girls have seats that unfold with straps to anchor them to a regular height chair so they don't need special chairs when they eat out.  When the girls were finished eating the cake, Alicia's mother cleaned off the chairs and if there had been a shower there, it would have been good to clean the chairs.  It was their first experience with something sweet; I don't know if this was the first solid food, but I doubt it.

I will have to look at the pictures and I'll pick a couple to send to Bubble for posting here.

It is still snowing and I thought, too, of what it might be when we got out of church.  Tom was driving and just got home within the last 15 minutes.  He didn't bring anything for me to eat so I had a croissant with chicken salad - put together by ME!!!

Good morning from a very warm Interior! Nothing new here, still tired and sleeping a lot. I did go grocery shopping yesterday, and the return home was marred by my having to direct the taxi driver on how to get me home. Somehow, he kept "insisting" that a portion of the trip, going the wrong way was a "shortcut."

I told him that I wasn't going to pay the extra two dollars and to call it into the dispatcher for clarification. I'd wait, but he "decided" to take the loss. It wasn't the amount as it was the dishonesty involved. I did get his cab number, the time and called it in myself. This happens too often and then they, (the cab drivers);  rant about the cheaper bus service!

Good afternoon, cloudy raining day.

MaryAnn, as the old saying goes Better be safe then sorry.
The girls sound like they had a fun time at the party, also the grown ups. glad you got to go.  I have a picture of my Mark on his first birthday, he is in his highchair, we put his BD cake on the try to show him, and he put his face right in it, so I have a picture of Cyriel holding his hands, he wanted to put both hand in also.  In the picture his face is all cover by cake.

Larry, I am glad you are taken it easy, you know we all care.
both games should be great, I will just watch golf, as this is more of a fun game, with all the rowdy golf, not normal.  I am for Rickey, but as I watch Phil and Matt are both gaining.

Transfer dough into a bowl and hand roll into small biscuits.

Place each biscuit onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.

Mary Ann

Patricia, I copied the Catnip Biscuit recipe but I don't know if it would ever get made.  My cook isn't into using recipes.

Whenever I get anything for Kendrick there is always a package of catnip in it.  We keep the catnip in a drawer of the end table and right now the drawer is slightly ajar.  Every so often, I'll look up and Kendrick is at the drawer, trying to get at the catnip.  It would be so easy for me to completely close that drawer when I walk by, but I don't think of it.  Besides, I get a kick out of seeing him on his hind legs, trying to get at the catnip.

Hi Everyone.  After a very rainy day yesterday today is sunny and beautiful.  I spend all day in my easy chair as was feeling pretty punk.  However, this morning I seem to be feeling better and actually felt like getting a few things done.  However, by the time I finished my shower I was ready to lay down and rest for a bit and am just now getting around to eating my breakfast.  While I was laying down I did read the things I ready daily plus all the postings in the discussions I follow. I did watch the PGA Golf Tournament in Phoenix.  They have the biggest crowd there of any golf tournament in the world.  They had over 700,000 people in attendance during the days of the tourney.  It is not the usual fairly quiet fans watching.  It was an exciting finish and required an extra hole to be played to decide the winner.  By the time it was over it was time for the Super Bowl to begin and that turned out to be a very good game.  I found the commercials not entertaining at all and turned off the sound during the halftime show.  Guess I am getting to be an old fuddy-duddy.  Nothing on the schedule for today other than getting more rest.  I think I may be able to lay on the bed this afternoon, which I haven't been able to do for a few days.

Mary Ann, as Marilyne said it sounds like a wise move for you and Dot  to not continue on to Church if the roads were bad.  Usually better to be safe than sorry.

Marilyne, the nice things about those 1st year birthday parties when we are the grandparents or great grandparents is that we don't have to clean up the birthday cake mess.

Patricia, it is a good thing you are aware of the stunts the cab drivers try to pull.

deAngel, there were several golfers in contention right up until the last few holes.  It is pretty amazing that this was Phil Mickelson's 29th year to play in that tournament.  It sure was a pretty gold course.

It’s a pretty sunny day here in the Florida Panhandle.  Supposed to reach 70F this afternoon.

Mary Ann, I’m looking forward to seeing the little birthday girls.  Hard to believe it’s been a year.  Time is flying by.

I wish the weather widget was working properly.  I like checking the weather when I read the posts.

wjoan

Sunny and 61 degrees here right now.  ;)

Marilyne

Hi joan!  Sunny and 74 here today.  That's unusually warm.  Expected to stay in that range all week, with no rain predicted in the month of February.  Looks like the drought has returned. :(

Mary Ann

While clicking on the various channels, trying to get to something I wanted to watch, I came upon the Stock Channel and discovered the market went down big time today.  The Dow went down 1175 points, the largest point drop ever.  I remember in 1987 there was a big drop and I lost a lot of money.  It wasn't long before I regained my loss.

We are having snow now and it should last until early morning.  Tom is out driving but he won't be out until the wee small hours today - at least he said he wouldn't.  He feels with snow tires on his car he can drive in circumstances where other drivers cannot.  I'm happier when I know he's home and not driving in some snowstorm.

Hi everyone. I am just not feeling like writing this morning as don’t feel up to doing so. I have read the postings.  Hope to feel better tomorrow’ as have to get out for a doctors appointment.

Marilyne

Mary Ann - I very much enjoyed looking at the birthday pictures that Bubble posted this morning in photos.  Ellie and Jo are adorable, and you are looking great!  I agree with what Sandy said - I would never guess that you will be 94 in a few months!  Whatever it is you're doing to keep looking so young, let us in on your secret!

SCFSue

Bubble, thanks again for posting Mary Ann's pictures.  They are so wonderful--and the girls have grown so much!

Mary Ann, I also enjoyed the pictures Bubble posted.  Good for you to still be healthy, up and around at 94.  I'm also expecting to live into my mid to late 90's as my grandfather's 2 sisters lived to be 98 and my Dad's mother, their sister-in-law lived to be 93.  I think she would have lived longer, but had a bad fall at a nursing home and was confined to a wheel chair for a year or two.  I think she was depressed and gave up due to the confinement.

Have a happy day, Every one.
Sue

Joy

Mary Ann,  the pictures of the twins on their birthday were so good.  They are both so cute and have really grown in their first year.  Looks like they loved their birthday cake.

You look so nice and , like others have mentioned, you sure don't look like you are in your 90's,  Keep on doing whatever you are doing to keep looking so well.

Sounds like it was a nice family party and get together. So happy that Dot felt well enough to go with you.

And, thank to Bubble, for posting the pictures for you.

I watched the launch of the SpaceX Heavy live on YouTube yesterday. Spectacular.

The weather is not going to be nice today with first snow, then sleet/freezing rain, and then this afternoon, just plain rain. Upstate, yesterday's weather prognosis called for heavy snow today, so George came back from his trip a day early to avoid driving in bad weather.

:banghead: Department: Shan is back at going through a destructive phase. He has ripped an old cafe curtain, destroyed any cord caps he can find on my blinds, and he is trying to dig apart my recliner from underneath. My wicker elephant side table that I've had since I was around 24 is now up atop an armoire to keep him from digging around underneath and pulling the wicker weavings holding the parts together. I am going to have to do some repairs to the loosened bits and weave pieces back in that he pulled out. He still is finding to get behind the TV and computer with all the wiring. It has been a losing battle so far. So now I have bought a long wire protector product to try. I will have to tear everything apart to reconfigure the wiring--again.

My sister and I went to lunch yesterday at a local restaurant. I had Meatloaf Eggs Benedict. It is a lot better than it sounds. Next time we go out we are planning to try Arooga's. The chain operates restaurants in the Northeast, mostly in Pennsylvania. It bills itself as a grill house and sports bar. Much of the menu is natural or organic.

Good morning to all!

Mary Ann, those little girls are just so darling.  Norm would be just so pleased with them.  And yes, I agree, you are looking great.

Larry, so sorry to hear you are slow healing.  I look forward every morning to read your health report & hope you will be getting better fast.

Hey Joan, I think about you every morning in here, too.  As I do everyone who is a regular.

shirleyn.

MarsGal

:kitten: Shan shananigan's part two: I just discovered that after several weeks hiatus, Shan has decided to crawl under the recliner again. His latest and greatest? He pulled one of the wires off  so that I can't reline. Now I am going to have to try and turn the thing over on its side to see if I can find where to plug the wire back in. It is a heavy chair, so I am not at all pleased. Nice going, Shan!

The snow just lightened up considerably now. From my window, it looks like close to two inches down. It's a little hard to tell without actually going out for a better look. I think I'll just stay in. I am not planning on shoveling until after the ice rain. I'd rather deal with shoveling and walking in ice that is on top of snow than have ice underneath the snow. I expect I will have to use my remaining ice melt later because it is going down to 16 tonight. No time for any of the snow/ice to melt and the sidewalks to dry.

Hi Everyone on a cloudy and rainy day.  We have a high percentage of opportunity for thunderstorms this afternoon. I had a very good night last night sleeping in my bed with the CPAP and oxygen and feel more like my old self this morning.  I can't eat breakfast this morning as have to give blood in a little while in preparation for my GP appointment on Friday.  I also need to stop at the city hall and pay the taxes on the cars and get the tags for this year.  Finally I have a 10:45 appointment with the my cardiologist.  I had considered canceling it but glad I didn't now.  If I have time after doing the first two things I will stop at the restaurant and get a breakfast sandwich otherwise I will have to wait until lunch time to eat and I really don't need any less energy.  Scott has to work this evening and I cancelled us out of going to the Wednesday night dinner at the Church.  So Jennifer and her friends will be coming out to have dinner with us this evening.

Mary Ann, those are certainly cute twins and those were sure big slices of birthday cake in front of each of them.  That was a nice photo showing you holding them.  I appreciate Bubble posting them for you.

Don, thanks for the link regarding the new Medicare cards.  I see our State is in the last grouping.

MarsGal, that space launch was something and then to see the pictures of the two rockets returning to their launch pad at the same time was unbelievable.  I saw that the Federal employees in the DC area were to report two hours late this morning.  We expect to get to 70 degrees here this afternoon with the rain.  I hope you can stay in and stay safe today.  It sounds like Shan is really trying your patience.  I hope you and your furniture and other things can survive his destructiveness.

Shirleyn, unless I experience a relapse I think the worst of whatever this illness was is behind me and I can start looking forward to rejoining the human race.  Today will be a good test of endurance.

Mary Ann

Larry, it was good to read your post today and it sounds as if you are on the upswing as far as health is concerned.  Just take it easy so there is no relapse.

Thanks for the comments on the twins; they are a joy.  And thanks for the comments on my picture with the girls.  I feel pretty good, but I don't move very fast.

Radar shows we'll get some lake effect snow and our temp is about 17 degrees.  The thermometer I look at in this room registers the temperature between the house and garage and I think either cold or heat gets trapped in that area, so that is why my temps are often "about".  Sometimes I pay attention to what the computer says when I turn it on, but usually I forget what it is.

MarsGal, Kendrick has probably destroyed the under part of an upholstered chair.  I know the bottom had a black cover for the workings of the chair (straps etc - it is not a recliner) and every so often I find a piece of black cover on the carpet.  He also has clawed the side of the chair.  It doesn't look too noticeable, but I do notice it.  He has enough scratch pads and uses them often so he doesn't have to claw the furniture.

Onward and upward!

Mary Ann

Thanks for allowing me to vent a little. I am hoping that Shan follows in my Sammy Katz (long time gone now) footsteps and all of a sudden at about one year settled into best bud behavior.
Trying to stay stern with Sammy was impossible because when I would look him in the eye and growl at him it would only take a few seconds before he would gaze off somewhere and start purring.

Sammy was a marvel. I had two guinea pigs that I would put out under an old microwave antenna dish for some grass munching and fresh air. Anytime Sam detected another cat in the yard, he would position himself between the guinea pigs and the other cat and remain on guard duty until I either took the pigs in, or the cat left. Sammy also had a mockingbird playmate for a few years. The bird would perch on the back porch railing in the morning and, looking straight into the patio door, make a commotion until I let Sammy out. Then they would play the catch me if you can game. The bird could definitely tell the difference between Sammy and a similar looking yellow cat. It would dive bomb the other cat mercilessly when he showed up in an open space.

Most of my day is turning out to be some computer maintenance and reading.

Marilyne

MarsGal - Kittens are so much fun, aren't they! ha ha!  I've been there, a number of times over the years! You are correct, in that they all of a sudden settle down around the time that they are full grown, and become calm and easy to live with.

I have also had puppies, and I would take a young kitten over a puppy any day!  Kittens are litter box trained almost immediately, whereas it takes months to train a puppy to go outside to do his business.  Many a ruined carpet, couch, drapes,  and constant floor clean-up during that first year.

Also, I think it's easier when you have an enclosed yard, and the kitten can go outside for a while every day to work off some energy.  That was a cute story about Sammy, befriending the mocking bird and protecting the guinea pigs!

Mary Ann

I love to hear the stories about cats and their antics.  I don't think Kendrick has any antics to compare with Shan or Sammy, but he has his routine.  For instance, when I go to my bedroom to either make the bed or turn it down at night, Kendrick is there to get his petting.  I can tell he's in seventh heaven when I scratch his head and back and rub him backwards.  He knows when 10 pm comes as that is the time I get his food ready for the next day.  He'll come into the computer room to let me know and while I'm getting the food out of the bag, he sits patiently beside his dish.  He's almost five years old now, not old enough to retire, but a little more subdued than a kitten.

Many T-Mobile customers recently received a text message that the company has “identified an industry-wide phone number port-out scam and encourage you to add account security.” The text then directs you to a page on the T-Mobile website to learn more.

In case you’re wondering if this threat is real, it is. And you need to take action on it now, even if you’re an AT&T, Sprint or Verizon customer. Failure to do so could result in having your bank account cleaned out, as has happened to numerous consumers.

So glad that I figured it out - Shan is a cat

I need to check in here often.

Thanks for another scam alert.  I had something on my cell phone that was really odd and deleted that right away.  They use familiar wording so it is easy to make a mistake and click something that looks familiar.  Wishing them jail time & crummy food while they sit in jail.

angelface555

While I am firmly in the indoor-only group of cat people, I agree that having a kitten is easier than having puppies as that is what I grew up with.  I have always used a spray bottle that is one part vinegar to two parts water. It's a deterrent, not bad for them, and the vinegar is good for their coats!

The trick is, to begin with, them not knowing you are doing the squirting so they never know when it will happen. Even tho they learn quickly where it is or who it is coming from, it is a good deterrent. Just make sure you are not spraying them in the face. Another good idea is a product called "Bitter Apple" that you can find in pet stores or order online. It is safe to use on wires, color test material first and they hate the taste.

Farrah will be six in September and she will immediately stop whatever she is doing just at seeing me pickup the spray bottle.

wjoan

Shirley, hello to you.  Nice to see your post.  :)
