Another excuse for cake and ice cream....

Happy Birthday, Jean.

FlaJean

Thank you all for the birthday greetings.  We went out to dinner and had a nice day.  I had to stop and ask myself “am I really 82 years old?”  Those years sure did fly!

Mary Ann

I had my first PT today for my shoulder.  A nice young man will be working with me and he gave me three exercises to do 15 times, twice a day.  My shoulder hurts a bit from what we did today but not too much.  The idea is to strengthen the shoulder muscles to I can use the arm more and lift it higher than I can do at present.  I will go twice a week for six weeks and I have my first two week appointments.

We had lunch where we usually eat breakfast on haircut days.  I had a wrap and brought half of it back home.  The wrap had an assortment of vegetables in it and some meat (forget what).

Tom left after dropping me off from PT to meet with the woman whose mother died last week.  He went to the funeral Monday but didn't get much chance to talk with her.

I may take a nap while Tom is gone.

Jean. You had a good day for a birthday. Valentine Day. Wonder if you mother planned that to give you father for that day 82 years ago. Doubt it. couldnt pick getting pregnant times back then.
You are so right. They come to fast now. Happy to see them though each year.

Good late evening, beautiful day, went to Red Hats and we ate in and old dinner, till has the black and white tiles on the floor. think it has been down town, on the river for over 60 years. Parking place was hard to find, as it is on Main St. I was glad I had my pushmobile.

I just came in to night to wish Jean in Niceville a HAPPY BIRTHDAY :bestwishes:
Larry, I will be down, if you need help in eating that ice cream :)

I again thanks everyone for my Birthday wishes. As I wrote somewhere, I had a surprise   party at the Senior center. I was the envy  of all the women there, as I had 5 men at my table and 3 women

Good Night to all my friend with hugs and prays

Hi Everyone.  We are looking forward to our second 80 degree day in a row.  It is suppose to stay cloudy all day.  I have nothing planned for today as was pretty busy yesterday morning.  I did get all of the items on my list attended to although wasn't able to get the Columbarium matter settled as the Church office didn't have the needed paperwork.  I got the name and telephone number of the lady who is handling this and called but haven't heard back from her yet.  Today will basically be a day of rest.

Mary Ann, a few years ago my 1st cousin and his wife invited Pat and I to go with them on a day trip to Knoxville, Tennessee and on that trip we located an old, old cemetery where we found the grave stones of ancestors on my mother's side of the family were buried but in the mid to late 1700's.  I hope you will get benefit from your PT.

Jean, I sure agree with you on how fast these years pass the older we get.

JeanneP, your comments about Valentine's Day raised a question in my mind as to its origination.  I did a quick Google search and found the following:  Valentine's Day is a very old tradition, thought to have originated from a Roman festival. The Romans had a festival called Lupercalia in the middle of February, officially the start of their springtime. It's thought that as part of the celebrations, boys drew names of girls from a box.

deAngel, we have an old ice cream shop in our downtown area that still has the old black and white tiles on the floor and the little round tables with the wire type backs on the chairs.  It sure is a trip into the past.  Glad you were up to attending your Red Hat luncheon. I would love to share the ice cream cake with you or any of our friends here.  After we took out five servings there was still a half plus one piece left so plenty to share.  Of course, it won't be available very long as we are working on finishing it up.

Thank you, Jackie.  Such a cute card!

Marilyne

Jean - it sounds like you had a nice birthday.  I know what you mean by being incredulous that you could possibly be so old! :yikes:  I didn't think I would ever live this long, because my immediate family members didn't live to this age.  One of my grandmothers, (paternal) did live into her early 90's, so she is the only exception.

The funny thing about her, is that she was a smoker, all of her adult life, and apparently it didn't effect her longevity!  She fell and broke her hip at age 93, and only lived a week or so after that, because she got blood poisoning.  My dad liked to tell about how he went to visit her at the hospital right after she fell, and asked her if there was anything she wanted, and she said, "Yes, a cigarette"!  He told her he couldn't do that, but then he thought about it and figured, why not?  The doctor had already told him she wasn't going to survive, because of the sepsis.  So he raised the head of her bed, lighted a cigarette, and held it for her to smoke a few puffs.  She was satisfied and grateful.  Sometimes, it's the little things that make us the happiest.

Good morning from a very warm Interior! We have had bouts of freezing rain mixed with periods of heavy snow, rolling blackouts and the expectations of at least another week or so of the same. I and others here have been offline since last Sunday evening and may lose internet again if the experience holds true.

I'm sorry I missed wishing Jean, Larry, and Gloria a very happy birthday but I want to wish you a belated one!

FlaJean

Thank you, Angel.  I sure hope your weather improves.  We have had sun the last couple of days after several days of dreary weather.  I just don’t care much for those grey days.

wjoan

Candy spent the day moving all her stuff upstairs.  She is really worn  out.  We just had dinner.   After she recovers from this she will make a trip down to CA to get her stuff out of storage.  Then after that she will go   to NV for all her furniture.  Gonna be a tough year for her.

MarsGal

Gosh, Joan, Candy sure is scattered all over the place. I hope she can pace herself so she doesn't wear herself out too badly.

After a few days of warm, up around 600, it turned cold again last night. We are expecting snow this afternoon and evening, but I don't think it will amount to much or last long, because the temps will go right back up in the 40s on Sunday. The forcast for the next week call for temps between 50 and 74 starting Tuesday. It is staying remarkably warm for February. I hope that the fruit trees don't start budding out too soon, followed by another cold snap. Not good for the orchard crops. We still have quite a few around here.

larryhanna

Hi Everyone. We start out with another warm morning here and we will be in the low 70's this afternoon.  Yesterday our area got to 84 degrees and we were able to open a couple of windows to let some fresh air into the house for a few hours.  The only thing I have on my schedule for today is to make a fast trip to Costco this morning to get a couple of items and to fill the car with gas and then Pat and I are going to Arby's for lunch.  The road in front of our development is being closed next Tuesday for a couple of months as a tunnel is built under the road to make our 6 mile Greenway accessible to the people living off of our main road.  Right now they have to cross the road and that isn't safe.  It just means we will have to drive a few extra miles to get to Costco as the Interstate entrance and  exit back home are in the area that is blocked.

Jackie, that was a cute birthday card for FlaJean.

Marilyne, I never expected to live as long as I have since I have been dealing with a bad heart for over 30 years.  It is probably do to the new medicines available to treat heart disease.  I am sure glad we are all still around.  My wife's grandmother was also a smoker all of her life and she lived well into her 90's.  It was a sad thing to see patients at the hospitals where Stacey was often a patient to be standing outside the hospital in their hospital gowns smoking away.  Several times the doctor's allowed her to have the nicotine patch when she was confined to bed as it definitely improved her personality.  She was not an easy patient, at least when we were around.

Patricia, what dreadful weather you have been experiencing and then to add being offline for several days made it even worse.  I am sort of lost anymore when we lose power and I don't have the Internet. I do have access through my smart phone and could recharge it from the car if necessary but sure hope that isn't necessary.  Thanks for the happy birthday wish.  It was a nice one.

Joan, it sounds like Candy has a lot of work ahead of her.  I am sure she will be greatly relieved to have her things once again available to her.

MarsGal, it doesn't sound like your cold weather will last very long this time.  We are expecting the 70's throughout the next week.

Morning all.  We have warmed up a tad.

Marsgal That is funny.     I hope so too.  It will take some time but hopefully all will turn out well.

Larry, Candy needs to buy a car also so she has a lot on her plate right now.  Was nice to have my place to myself again.  Not used to lliving with anyone.

We warmed up for a couple of days. Was 60 deg one day. Really cold last night and now the snow is coming down again. I am trying not to be going out with a lighter jacket when it is warmer. Noticed on the 60 deg day people in floppies and shorts. but then see them that way all winter.
Flu still going around everywhere here. They saying that so many of the elder people are dying from it going in pneumonia but 18 have been under 50. One young mother of 2 yesterday at 22. Saying this shot we took has been the least for protection ever. Got it at 23% now. but still people better off to still take it.. Some of the places now doing it for free. if not insured. I believe that the Gov. should start giving it everyone for free every year. Would cost them less than it is costing for the people dying. Some places charge $60 for the young uninsured to get it. No wonder they go without. They even charge for children.

Hi Everyone.  It looks like it will be a pretty day but will be in the mid-60's this afternoon rather than the 70's and 80's we have been enjoying.  I am up and ready to leave for Sunday School and Church in a little while.  I doubt that Pat will be up to going today.  This will be the first time in 4 weeks I will have attended.  I plan on watching the finals of the PGA Golf Tourney out in California this afternoon.  I did watch it some yesterday afternoon.  Those are my plans for today.  I am still not feeling up to par so that will be plenty.  Pat and I did go out for our lunch yesterday as she hadn't been out of the house for about a week.

Joan, I hope Candy can find a good car that will not give her problems.

JeanneP, I see people wearing shorts and flip flops almost year round down here.  How sad that a woman so young was taken by the flu.  It apparently can kill someone in a very short period of time.  One of my coffee drinking buddies has had double pnemonia and has serious heart problems.  He did not  have the flu.  Fortunately he got into the VA Hospital here in time and is now home but still on oxygen.

Dot and I did our Sunday thing this morning, first time in three weeks.  Driving was good so we could go to church and the Cholesterol Pit.  We were joined by a friend and former neighbor of Norm and Dot's at the other condo.  The friend lost her husband in early December; they ate at Mr Burger often.  I hate to say it, but I hope she doesn't join us every week as this is the only time Dot and I are one-on-one.

The cat rubs against my pant legs and I swear I have more of his hair on me than he does.  I bought a lint roller last week and used it this morning before going to church.  When I got in the car, I could see I did not do a very good job because I still had a lot of hair on the pant legs.  I'll have to do them again.  He sheds anyway, but I wonder if he's losing his winter coat.

Larry, I am watching the golf from Pacific Palisades.  I also am ready for a nap and that may win.  It's still on the Golf Channel but I think it will change to CBS or NBC soon.

I also have to do my PT exercises twice today.

People are walking on the ice at Grand Haven and I also noticed a few on the pier by the outer lighthouse.  It's a beautiful day, sunny and in the high 30s.

Dan brought over a TV and entertainment center for Candy this a.m/  He is loaning her a queen size air mattress until she can get her furniture out of storage.  She will be fine now til she can save up some money for a truck.

Forgot to mention we had snow today.   Was 39 degrees and big old flakes were dropping.  None stuck tho..

larryhanna

Hi Everyone.  We are expecting a cloudy day with only a small chance of rain today and a temperature this afternoon of around 75 degrees.  I did go to Sunday School and Church yesterday.  We had only a single Worship Service as probably 100 or more of our congregation were at an annual  weekend family retreat over at a camp ground in Rutledge, Georgia. I spent the afternoon taking a long nap and then watched the last couple hours of the golf tournament, the evening news, and a couple of hours of the Olympics.  It is pretty amazing what some of these ski and snowboard jumper can do in the air with the twists and turn and then land going backwards.  It is a wonder they have survived all of the practices without breaking their necks.  The only thing on the schedule for today is the tech from the Medical Supply company is coming around noon to check out my oxygen concentrator.  This is just a routine visit that will occur every three months as I am not aware there is any problem with the machine.

Mary Ann, glad you and Dot were able to get out and do your usual Sunday Church attendance and then eating out.  It sounds like you may need to also go out to eat with Dot another day of the week when it can be just you two.  Bubba Watson was really on his game and that was the third time he has won that golf tourney.  It had been awhile since he had won.

Joan, it sounds like Dan is looking out for his sister.  I expect the air mattress will feel mighty good although I hope she won't have a problem getting up from it.  She may look back on the time in her apartment without much furniture of other possessions as a memorable time.  When we moved to Alaska in the 1960's  we had to wait 6 weeks for our furniture and possessions to arrive.  We couldn't afford to stay in a motel beyond one night and were fortunate to find a duplex the next day and we moved in with basically nothing but our suitcases.  The children were babies and they can sleep anywhere so a palette on the floor worked well for them.  Our neighbors/landlords had left a mattress on the floor that Pat and I could use.  I think there may have been another piece or two of furniture in the duplex and our neighbors loaned us a few things.  We made do and it actually was a fun time in our young lives.  The snow you experienced sounds like the right kind as probably beautiful and peaceful as it fell but didn't stick to the streets or ground.

wjoan

Larry, I gave her some of my fry pans, and other things that I do not use any longer.  Bought her a set of silverware and some glasses to tide her over til she can get to NV  to  get her furniture and stuff.

Part of an article about storing passwords from Dashlane stated:

"Although it is far from secure, many people use cloud services to store and share their passwords. Some of the most common cloud storage tools used for this purpose include Dropbox, Apple iCloud, and Google Drive. This is an extremely dangerous practice that has led to several data breaches in the past. For example, in 2016, Dropbox announced a data breach that affected approximately 68 million records. Likewise, hackers were recently able to exploit a flaw in iCloud’s security that allowed them to unlock any iPhone. Thus, these tools can’t be trusted to keep your passwords safe."

MarsGal

Angel, thanks for that. I try to avoid the cloud as much as I can. I think Amazon uses the cloud for storing my music and books. I download most of those for offline storage.

Today I am taking my sister and her husband for a combined birthday present to the movies and then to dinner. We are going to see The Black Panther and then dine at Macaroni Grill. I think the movie was originally to open a week or so later than it did, so they are both getting their birthday present a little early. Otherwise, it would have been in between their birthdays.

It is a very foggy morning and 43o right now.

larryhanna

Hi Everyone.  We have a little fog here in our neighborhood and I expect there is a lot more down by the river.  We are predicted to be in the lower 80's for the next 5 days or more.  The tech came and checked out my oxygen concentrator yesterday morning and all was well.  I called and found out that after about 13 months this piece of equipment will become mine and I won't have a monthly co-pay on it as is now the case.  So by the end of the year that medical expense should be over and that is good news.  The calendar is clear for today.  Last evening Pat and I decided we would go down to Pizza Hut for the evening buffet today so don't have to worry about what we will have for dinner.  I just fixed her breakfast of scrambled eggs with peppers and onions, bacon bits and cheddar cheese.  I think I may try to get started on my taxes this morning although still missing one piece of the puzzle that always comes in mid to late March and prevents me from filing earlier.  I had a very good day yesterday and got up this morning feeling good so think what ever it was that put me down is now over.

Joan, most of us can find some pot and pans to give to someone and it is nice that you bought her some new dishes and silverware.  I am sure she appreciates your help with these items.

Patricia, I use a password program called Last Pass and it uses a master password that is not stored in the clouds.  If one loses track of that master password there is nothing that can be done to recover your passwords.  Therefore someone accessing what is saved on the cloud wouldn't be able to access the passwords.  I have used this program for years and have a Premium annual subscription so that I can access my passwords from any computer or smart phone.  I don't save passwords that are important on any of the services like Google Drive or Apple iCloud until it is one for a news site or something that isn't important.  I use the cloud a lot to store other documents and information like photos.

MarsGal, you are right that Amazon and Nook store your purchased books and music on their cloud servers and they are always accessible to you so that there is no need to keep them on your devices unless you just want to.  From what I read The Black Panther movie is set to break a lot of records for money earned.  I know my son will be interested in it as he is a big Marvel fan.  Personally, I do not care for these type movie although I always enjoyed the old Batman years ago on TV as it was so cleaver and do remember programs like the Green Hornet on the radio as a youth.  You are a lot cooler up your way than we are here.  When I looked at about 7 am it was already 63 degrees.

Mary Ann

Two down and one to go - I had my hair cut this morning and afterward we went to breakfast at the restaurant next door.  This afternoon I will have my second PT session and I've got to do my exercises here before we go.

It has been raining all morning and probably will continue but with the temperature at 57 degrees now, supposed to go to 60 degrees, it is downright balmy.  I wore my raincoat to start out this morning, but carried it to the restaurant and when we got home.  It is sweater weather!

Mary Ann

Lindancer

Good afternoon. was rain and fog this morning, now the sun is shining, no wind like yesterday.

Larry, The Black Panther movie, I think will be very popular as Michelle Obama said she saw it and liked it. that was in to days paper.  I always listen to the Shadow on the radio, I remember the Green Hornet. Of course I go back to Orphan Annie and the decoder ring.  Glad you are feeling better.

Maryann, my hair seems to stop growing on the top and sides, it is kind of shaggy in the back. I think it had something to do with all the meds. I take.

Sandy, I gave a lot of my pot and pans to my g.son as he is a chef in Vermont.  I also gave him my old oyster and clam knifes they had belong to my mother. He was very happy to get my electric mixer. As I do very little cooking.

Marilyne

Mary Ann & Gloria - It's funny how the bad weather switches back and forth from coast to coast.  I see that today is predicted to be in the 60's, 70's and even the 80's (as Larry said), along the East Coast and into parts of the Midwest.  Here we are having freezing temperatures, and even snow in some areas!  We're surrounded by mountains and foothills, and usually see snow on the peaks, a few times during the Winter, but almost unheard of to have snow in the valley's and flatlands.  Last time I remember snow, on the ground, in my yard, was in the 1970's.  Last night we went to 29 degrees here, which is about as low as it ever gets.  Seems Arctic, to those of us who are California natives! :o

I got a recorded message from my cardiologist this morning, saying that he is retiring on February 20th!  I had an appointment scheduled in early March, which of course has now been cancelled. I would guess that he is about 70?  No reason given for retirement.  The recorded message said that a Dr. Wang or Dr. Chow, would take over his practice, if we wanted to see either one.  I don't know what I'm going to do as yet???  I have a hard time understanding the Chinese doctors, and my husband does too.  I know they are good doctors, but it's frustrating to have a visit with a doctor, and not be able to converse with him or her.  As the older doctors are retiring here in CA, their practices are being taken by either Chinese or Indian doctors.  I think my ophthalmologist will be the next to go. :(
