Good morning with nothing new here from the Interior. We still have heavy snow, higher amounts in the passes followed by freezing rain and trees toppling either from heavy snow or the weight of ice.

We have been under one type or another of a weather advisory since January. Luckily, there have been no injuries or house damages, but the different electrical services are keeping everyone at work.

It sounds if everyone is dealing with an obstinate winter this year.

Farrah is doing as usual. When awake, she follows me around or runs about playing fiercely. She has adjusted to her diet regime but still keeps a hopeful watch if I come home with any bags.

Yesterday I was out doing my best to help the local economy but was hindered by having to give away most of my money to those expecting pay for their services! The three hours out exhausted me and I came home all stiffened up. It was actually, other than visiting friends, the first time in a month I had ventured out.

I did notice that everything I usually buy had risen quite a bit. Those previous storms and crop damages are coming home to roost in our grocery stores. It will be nice when local crops are back next summer.

This morning will be one of my food deliveries when the food boxes arrive in our social room later. I learned recently that these are not the general food boxes but a type of Federal commodities program. I have participated in these deliveries and never paid any attention.

I have been asked if I would be interested in going to the stores for people, but since I don't drive, I would have to charge transportation costs, and that wouldn't be fair to those who have less. CPAs and other caregivers are not allowed to do these type of errands and the ones doing this type of service charge, in my opinion, outrageous fees.

I did say that if they had the groceries dropped off, I could with prior notice, go down to security and bring them up from there. However, most of these folks are surviving on ever-shrinking Federal assistance and cannot afford personal shoppers or grocery deliveries. They are here primarily because of an agreement between the state and the company owning these buildings.

Good afternoon, very, very wind still and cloudy.  Lots of flooding around us, downtown, the river came into some of the stores.

MaryAnn, as I told Patricia I have a winter picture in Photos, that shows how close I live to the road, the few very few times Taffy has gotten out I get very frighten till we get her in. She likes to hide in back of the bushes.

Larry, Park management calls us on the phone when there is something pertaining to our part of the park. I plan on getting a piece of corn beef and make a New England dinner net week along with Irish soda bread.  I did get Hot Cross buns yesterday when I wet to the doctors, in all that weather.

Good afternoon all.  Temps for us are in the 20's to 30's  during the nights.  During the days we are in the low 50's.  Not windy right now so not too bad.

Dan bought Candy a new TV.  It surprised me cuz he has no income at this time.  Oh well, he is a good man.  Gotta love him.  :)

Marilyne

wjoan - Good afternoon to you too!  We both still have a few hours of afternoon left, being as we're in the same time zone. :) How nice of Dan, to buy Candy a new TV.  You are correct, that he is a good man!

Gloria de - I looked in Photos, for your picture, but didn't see one?  Your plan to make a corned beef dinner with Irish soda bread, sounds perfect for this weather.  You've given me the idea, so I'll start planning the same thing for St. Patrick's Day.

It's all about the weather, here in Northern Cal, this week.  After three months of mild temperatures and no significant rain, Winter has finally arrived!  We've had a week of heavy rain and very cold temperatures - especially for March.  The nights have been going down to below freezing, which is unusual for here, and the daytime temps in the high 40's and low 50's, with snow covering the surrounding mountains and hilltops.  No snow here, however.  These old bones are suffering, because they aren't used to such low temps.  I know that those of you in other parts of the country are MUCH worse off, when it comes to rain and cold, so I will not complain.

Hi Everyone.  It is another beautiful day.  It is suppose to be down to 34 at 8 am but then be up into the 60's again this afternoon and sunny all day long.  I am ready to go to Church this morning.  I have done the morning chores except to fix Pat's breakfast and decided to sit down an rest a few minutes and eat my breakfast and then will go and fix hers.  She said she wasn't in any rush and I have everything set out so it will be quick and easy this morning.  Nothing else on the schedule for today.  I have nothing to talk about that I did yesterday as stayed home.

Patricia, glad you were able to get out on Friday for awhile and that you were able to navigate the snow.  It appears we are probably headed for a period of inflation so expect all the prices to go up.

deAngel, nice of the park management to let you know of things that might affect the park.  It sounds like you will really have a nice St. Patrick's Day dinner with what you have planned.

Joan, how nice of Dan to buy Candy a new TV.  You can get a very nice TV these days for a very reasonable price.  It sounds like Dan must have saved his money when he was working.

Marilyne, sure hope your weather improves and warms up before long.  Whether seems to be a bit mixed up this year.  We are finally getting some cooler nights and days and overall it has been a pretty nice winter here.

Larry, he gets a bit of disability from the VA.

Marilyne

Patricia - Thank you for posting the link to Gloria's photo.  Looking at it, made me grateful for my predicted 50 degree high today.  :)

Good afternoon, on another windy day, and still have flooding around. I see on TV up the Island they had to evacuate people all along the south shore, as the tides came in so high from the bay. Roads are still closed out here, and still some people are without power this AM.

Patricia, thank you for posting my winter scene, also to show how close I am to the road. This was the day they said we were only getting a dusting. If I feel up to it, I might go to Target to day.

Just spoke with GD in Connecticut last night. They got lots of snow but at least the really bad winds havn't reached them. New Canaan their Village seems to be protected from what comes up the East Coast.
Now her Husband should be home Today. His flight from Singapore stopped in Germany . Should have left there late Saturday for NY if that Airport has opened back up.  Don't know how he stands taking those long flights. Believe Singapore third time this year. At least stayed a week this time. Sometimes just 2 days. He makes the London trip about every month and sometime just overnight. Because of the 6 hour time change he can leave NY at night getting him into london by 8am then leaves there end of their work day at about time to get back to NY by Dinner.  I have seen photo of the First Class planes he takes. The big seats make into beds and he sleeps well.  My Family in UK used them going to New Zealand which I believe is about 23 hours and they say they are great.  My 7 hours to UK Is enough for me.

I thought I'd better post something before the day is over.  Dot and I did our "thing", going to church, then to Mr Burger for breakfast/brunch.  We had a tuna melt today along with splitting a piece of cream pie.  The pies are always different, but always cream.  Today there were chocolate sprinkles on the top.  Dot's former neighbor did not join us.  I won't mind occasionally, but not always.

Today is the first birthday of the boy born in California last year.

My shoulder hurts a lot today and I haven't done any of my exercises but I will try to do at least one before I go to bed.  The ones with the cane I can do lying on my bed.  The others I pull on a stretchy strip, one standing up, two sitting in a chair.

Tom is out driving but I think he might be home soon, maybe before 10 am.

We've had such beautiful weather for this time of year but snow is predicted tomorrow.  I'm not complaining; we haven't had, nor do I expect, the weather in the East.

Mary Ann

MarsGal

Good Morning everyone. This morning is another bright a day, although cold (26o. Shan and Oscar have each claimed a window to check watch for birds.

The first thing I had to do, this morning, is to remove the ransomware notice that popped up on my Firefox browser claiming to be taking my personal info, financials, etc. and locking me out of the computer if I closed the browser. I couldn't get the browser to closed with the alternate methods, so I set my anti-virus, which didn't catch anything, to do a boot scan. The thing did not lock me out of my computer or any of my offline programs, just FireFox. So, I removed the Firefox app and am, at present, using Microsoft's browser. The extra IP addresses that Avast told me were connected to my machine have disappeared. Have no idea if they got anything or if it was a fake pronouncement that they were taking my info.Of course they wanted me to call some number to "fix" the problem.  What was "amusing" is that the voice over on the ransomware said something about found on a porn site. Lovely! I don't go anywhere near porn sites.

The river levels are running high; it won't take much more rain up north to flood some of the lower areas. Otherwise, there isn't much going on.

Hi Everyone.  It is a another beautiful day here although it is quite chilly this morning, down to around 34 but again will get to the mid-60's.  I have a light day planned for today.  This morning I will drop off a return package at Fed EX on my way to Aldi's to pick up a few items.  From there I will go to Walmart to pick up Pat's big grocery order and come home and unload it and help put it away.  That will probably be it.  I think we plan on just having a salad supper this evening with chicken for Pat and tuna for me.

Yesterday morning when I plugged in the old toaster oven it made a sizzling noise and then started to burn around the plug with fire shooting out.  Fortunately I was still standing there so could grab the cord and unplug it.  It went immediately into the trash can. I bet we have been using it for 25 to 30 years.  So now Pat gets to pick out a new one. We are also going to have to return the new phone that Pat got as the conversations are garbled and the battery doesn't want to stay charged.  I ordered her a new and better phone last evening.  There really aren't too many choices available in an old fashioned basic flip phone.

I did enjoy watching the golf from Mexico City yesterday and it was a pretty exciting finish.  The old guy beat all of the younger ones as Phil Mickelson won the $1.7 million dollar prize.  Of course the runner up also made over $1 million dollars.

Joan, thanks for the added information on Dan.

JeanneP, certainly good that your GD's husband is able to fly first class and get some sleep on the plane as that schedule sounds brutal.  I can't image flying back and forth to London in one day even with the time change.

Mary Ann, glad you and Dot had some time together over lunch without the other lady joining you.  Hard to believe that baby in California is now one year old.  It sounds like the East coast could get more bad winter weather starting Wednesday.

MarsGal, as I was sitting here reading and writing I glanced out the window I saw this beautiful little bird sitting on the arm of the porch chair with a twig in its mouth obviously in the process of building a nest.  In a few seconds her partner flew in and landed near her.  I got out my camera but before I was ready to take the picture they flew away.  I have used the Chrome browser for many years but recently it started acting up on both my desktop and laptop and so I set up the new Microsoft Edge browser and used it for awhile but am now using the Opera browser and like it.  I also use it as the browser on my phone.  Glad you were able to escape the ransomware notice.  I read the Kim Komando newsletters and almost every day she is talking about a new scam, ransom-ware or security breach.

Mary Ann

Larry, I watched the golf match too and I was happy to see Mickelson win as he had not won a tour since 2013.  He's aiming for more tournaments in the future.

It is starting to be a nice day here, getting into the 40s.  With the sun shining, I can take that.

I think I'll get started on my income tax today.  I'm not sure I have all of my information yet but I can estimate one until I do get the info.  My taxes are simple, which is why I do them myself.  I have no idea whether I'll have a refund or have to pay.

MarsGal, I'm glad things turned out OK with your threat.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

MarsGal - a couple of years ago, my daughter fell for the "Microsoft scam".  I don't remember the details now, but it was at the early beginnings of that particular scam, where they lock your computer, etc.  Unfortunately, she had never heard of it, so thought it was official from M-soft, and followed the directions. I think she paid $150 from her credit card, and her computer did open. I don't remember the details, but after the fact, she got help from a "techie" friend, who told her to  immediately call her credit card company, and cancel the card and get a new one.  She was out $150, but . . . lesson learned!

Mary Ann - Good luck with your income tax.  We sent ours in last week, and hope to get a refund?  We used to pay a tax guy, but like you, it's simple now, so AJ does it.  I double check, and that's it.

Larry - the same thing happened with our most recent toaster.  All small appliances now, seem to be programmed to fizzle out after a certain length of time.  The only appliance of ours that seems to go on forever is Mr. Coffee!

angelface555

MarsGal, many of these items, scams, and virus come attached unknowingly to your email.  I imagine that (unless you have a really good frequently updated antivirus just for your email as part of your avast or another); emails that you have sent out during the time of the infection will carry part of the virus. That is how they can work or one of the ways.

Another point about the porn is that porn sites are often loaded by these scammers on your machine, but you never realize it as they are using your computer without your knowledge or consent as a transfer site. Your PC along with a great many others are used as way stations to transfer the porn to its ultimate destination. These might have been the unknown IP addresses. At times, it takes a professional cleaning to rid your computer of all traces of the virus.

They seem to prey on those who do little about security or do not realize its importance, and this is passed unknowingly by them on down to others. There was an older lady I knew who took her PC in for service and the techs found it riddled with these sites.

She became so upset that she gave up computers and the Internet, saying she was too old to deal with it.

angelface555

MarsGal

It seems that it is becoming more difficult to keep these blankedy-blank creatures from trying to cause mayhem or scam people.

I have a paid version of Avast, which now includes a feature that checks your internet status and tells you what IP/MAC addresses/devices are connected to your machine. This is new from them, I think. I also use Wireless Network Watcher which is a little free program that does the same, but is a stand alone and gives a real time, constant (as long as you have the window open) picture of what is connecting to your machine.

I finally downloaded and installed Vivaldi, which I am using now. It gets good reviews. Originally I was considering it for my Linux (Ubuntu 16.04) machine but ended up installing Chromium instead.

JeanneP

MarsGal.  I got that call again the Other day. Get it about once a month. Says from Microsoft but its not. Has a Asian Accent and can tell they are reading the same thing everytime they call . I just hang up. Seem that the calls from people are never going to go away. Some always come at the same time of day. I have found when I answer the phone in French, German etc. Then I never hear again. Just know a little of each. Get them confused.
JeanneP

angelface555

MarsGal, if they are getting to hospitals, police, firemen, schools and government, then all we can do is be vigilant and stay educated.

MarsGal

Exactly, Angel. And here the government makes the Drs., etc., have you sign a HIPA statement every year (or so it seems) telling you how everything is kept private. I always tell them that's a joke.

My sister and I are off to see Red Sparrow later today. The reviews are spotty, leaning to not so good. The reviews, however, were unanimous in praising Jennifer Lawrence. I saw critical reports on lighting being uneven, no real spark between the two lead characters, some sex and violence which is in the book is portrayed while others are skimmed over, no Russian/Eastern Europeans in lead roles, story seems disjointed in spots. Sounds like they had problems with direction and editing. It took them so long to sign on actors after they announced their original release date, that I figured they were having problems from the get-go. Of course, they may have decided to coordinate the movie release with the last book of the trilogy. So, I wonder if they are following just the first book, or were trying to consolidate three books worth into one movie. I will find out this afternoon.

larryhanna

Hi Everyone.  It is raining this morning but 53 degrees and will stay in the high 50's through out the day.  It is suppose to continue all day long.  I have a busy morning as have a dental appointment for teeth cleaning at 10 am so will leave around 9:30 as it takes about 20 minutes to get there.  Then as I come back home I will come but up by Costco and stop and do some shopping for some things we need.  I am hopeful I can get an electric cart as walking the aisles there today won't be fun and I will really have to go slow.  That will be it for today.  Yesterday I did get the shopping done at Aldi's and then picked up our on line grocery order at Walmart but when I got home Pat realized the luncheon meat we had ordered and been charged for wasn't there.  I called and they checked and found they had left it in the cooler.  I didn't feel up to making another trip and told them it would be later in the day before I could make another trip there and pick it up.  However, Pat decided she could drive down and get it, which she did and which I appreciated as had pretty much used up my day's supply of energy.

Mary Ann, Mickelson will soon be old enough for the Senior Tour and the way he is playing will likely win a lot of those tournaments.  However, he obviously isn't done on the regular PGA Golf Tour.  He has been right up there in the money in most of the tournaments and is a formidable opponent.  I did get the final figures yesterday I needed so I can now I can finish up my Income Taxes.  My initial run through indicates I will get a small Federal refund and will pay that plus a few dollars on the State return.

Marilyne, did the credit card company restore her money?  A couple of years ago I had a contract with a computer repair service and they seemed to be good and provided the services as they indicated they would.  However, about nine months into the contract they close up shop.  I felt I was due a quarter of what I paid back and called my credit card company to file a protest.  Rather than refund the quarter amount they refunded the full amount, which was a real shock.  With the online tax programs it is pretty easy to file ones own taxes.  I have used a program called Tax Act for a number of years as they were inexpensive.  However, they have significantly raised their fees so I may explore another avenue.  I think we went through a couple of Mr. Coffee coffee makes over the years.  We have been using the Kuerig one cup coffee maker for a couple of years now and no problems.

Patricia, the computer world has become a very dangerous place for unknown and unwanted things to be happening and we may not even be aware for sometime.  However, I try to be very careful about security on my computer.  The Chrome Book computer are a great tool for someone who just wants to do email and use a browser and not run any other programs.  You don't have to worry about someone else using your computer.  I had one for a couple of years and it worked fine for my afternoon and evening use but I caught my foot in the power cord one morning and pulled it off slamming it onto the floor and shortly after that it died.  I will pass that Instant Pot Potato Salad site on to Pat.  However, I sure would want my potatoes cut up into much smaller pieces as don't care for it in such big chunks.

MarsGal, I have played around with Linux software a few times but decided it was too much to deal with and really didn't use it all that much.  I tried the Vivaldi browser a few weeks ago.  However, the way I like to use a browser I am now using either the Opera browser or sometimes the Microsoft Edge Browser, both of which are working well for me.  I prefer the Opera because it allows me to have my bookmarks appear as little boxes when I open a new tab and I had been using an extension on the Chrome browser that allowed me to do the same but started having trouble with Chrome and thus the switch.  I agree with you on the HIPA statement.

JeanneP,  good for you finding a way to confuse the scammers when they call.  I generally won't answer a number I don't recognize and if I do and it is someone I don't know I immediately just hang up.  My iPhone actually identifies some of these calls as spammers so don't even answer.

so_P_bubble

Hi everyone on this nice sunny day here. Don and I enjoy that very much, especially when reading about the terrible weather that seems to plague many parts of the US.
I don't think it is much better in Australia, Perth, where it is supposed to be  36C or 97F today.

Mary Ann

We woke up to a white world this morning, not much, but snow nevertheless.  According to the radar, there is a lot of snow west of us and should dump more on  us.  We are at 30 degrees.

Larry, I have used Turbo Tax for many years.  Tom discovered Amazon had the Deluxe version for $39.95 and I had been paying $49.95 at our Meijer Supermarket.  I think it retails for $59.95.  The state version is included in the price.

Tom is out driving and I expect him home shortly.  He likes to drive in slightly bad weather because he knows other do not.  He has snow tires on his car which, he says, helps.  He just came in and brought me my breakfast muffin.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Good morning everyone: I've also had enough of Winter, and will be glad to get some warm weather. We didn't get enough rain to make a dent in our drought, but the snow pack in the Sierra is deep, so will get a good run-off into the rivers when thongs warm up.  Looks like we may have water rationing again by Fall, but I guess that is becoming the new normal?

MarsGal - Be sure to post in Television/Movies or Library Bookshelf, about how you liked Red Sparrow?  I think it was Tomereader, who also mentioned reading the books and looking forward to the movie?  I put my name on the wait list at the library, but it's long and I don't expect to get it any time soon.

Mary Ann - You haven't mentioned Kendrick, in a while?  Has he ventured out on your deck, with all that snow?  I recall that he wasn't very fond of snow in the past.  We also use Turbo-Tax, and have been happy with our return.

Larry - I don't remember if my daughter got her credit care reimbursed, after the Microsoft scam?  I haven't been to Costco in a couple of months.  AJ meets with some retired friends from work on Thursday afternoon, so he stops there on his way home and usually picks up something for dinner.  Our Costco quit making the fresh chicken soup, which I've really missed during this long Winter. He usually gets one of the casseroles - chicken enchiladas or ravioli lasagne.

Good Morning Everyone from the cool,
but dry rocky coast of Maine.

I watched "the Bachelor "  suppose to be

IMHO

Otherwise,  all is well here for me!!

Marilyn, Kendrick is being Kendrick.  I offer to let him out on the deck but unless the temperature is in the 50s, he looks out, then backs up into the living room.  All this week will be in the low 40s and we had snow overnight.

I just found out there will be a birthday party for the twins' mother Sunday in Holland.  Tom has picked something to give her, but it will also be something for the girls.  It is something they can take to the beach and put both girls in to keep them out of the sun.  Holland is on Lake Michigan but I don't know how often they go to the beach.  There are other lakes around the area too.

Good morning from a still warm, still snowing Interior. Nothing new here other than I've picked up the mail for a few folks who are housebound and seeking new CNAs. I ran into one snag where security refused to give me a package from the post office until I received a written note from the postal box owner, authorizing me to pick up his mail. My written authorization to pick up and deliver his food boxes wasn't accepted.

However, I was able to get a note from the individual as well as a witness signature so I'm set. I will also pick up grocery deliveries downstairs but will not go to stores myself. I am not charging for this as that would be dumb. If I'm here, fine, if not, they can make other arrangements. Security will not take on these types of errands.

Lindancer

Good afternoon Patricia,  It is sunny still windy. To morrow we are to have another Nor'easter with extra high tides. and very windy.  did someone :coolsmiley: say March.
I had ordered printer ink from Best Buy, I thought is was coming in the mail, but got notice I had to go to the store and pick it up. My nice neighbor said she would go. they would not give her the ink, they said I had to come down and pick it up.  I would have understood if it was something expensive. she told them I had trouble getting into the store.

Still another dreary day here today.  Not yet showered or dressed. I seem to have gotten into a bad habit this winter of talking myself into staying in PJ. when cold and rainy out.
Today I do need to get out to the library if no place else. Seems like even the TV in the Evening has gotten boring. Nothing worth watching. The PBS have gone into their Pledging again. Seems every month anymore and we have 4 of their stations. it is 15 min. of show and 10 min. of pledging so I don't start watching any.
Lake Grand Haven looks calm today.  Not seen the Florida Eagles lately. Must be old enough to be flying away. Bears in the Den. Need to find another Web Camera.
The Bachelor. That has to be the worst show on TV. Don't see how he gets on all the time. Nothing good seems to happen to they ones that they pick. I think only one Couple have married over the years.
Thought I saw the sun pop out. Better get dressed. Who knows the day may change.
