As I mentioned, by the time I was able to watch some golf, the Championship tour was on.  It ended up with a three-way tie, then Langer was out and on the second playoff hole, Fesch won.  I had not heard of him or Parel the other two who tied at the 18th hole.  Many who play the Champions are older players, although Langer still competes.

My next door neighbor has just shoveled my sidewalk!  We do have someone paid by the complex who shovels, but maybe the nature of the snow kept him from doing anything.  I have walked on the crusty snow twice today (going and coming) and have no plans to go out now.

Hi Everyone.  This is going to be a beautiful day after a very stormy and rainy one here yesterday.  It is in the 40's now and will only get into the high 50's this afternoon and it is to be windy all day.  My schedule is clear for today and expect to stay home all day.

Mary Ann, it sounds like yesterday would have been a good day to stay inside and warm.  Stacey's ashes were given to me in a plastic bag that was inside a black box that also contained paperwork about the cremation that would be needed if we were to fly the ashes somewhere.  Pat had a nice little wooden quilt storage box and so we have the black box in the quilt storage box in our spare closet where it will remain until one of us is gone and an urn is ready to be used.  I didn't watch any of the PGA tournament yesterday as it was over by around 1 pm.  I think they did the CBS broadcast as planned at 3 to 6 pm as a replay.  Due to the heavy rain our Dish signal was off all afternoon so I didn't watch any of it but checked to see who won on my iPhone.  I see the Poulter faulted on the last day and wasn't the winner.  Glad you got to go out to lunch with Tom and were close to the door.  Maybe it was the Champions Tournament that CBS broadcast yesterday afternoon as the rain would have moved out of the Atlanta area during the morning sometime.  Duluth, Georgia is in the county we lived before moving here.

deAngel, did you watch the live action yesterday morning on the Golf Channel?  It is probably a good thing they played early as we had quite a storm cross the State during the afternoon and no golf could be played in the heavy rain and driving wind.

Marilyne, was the Heritage a replay of the morning final round?  It has to be disappointing to be leading starting the final round and then to falter.

Mary Ann

I've been up for a couple of hours but I think I'm not totally awake yet!  I never did look to see who won the PGA tour (if they played) and only saw the final holes of the Championship tour.  I'll go back and look when I'm finished with S&F.

Apparently our area had quite a storm yesterday, however, it was not bad here.  In the middle of town, some trees were down along with trees falling on cars, much ice on branches.  Tom did not drive last night but he is out now.  He did drive yesterday morning and said he saw many cars in ditches.  He likes to drive in bad weather because he figures other drivers do not, so he has more opportunity.

I just looked at our radar and the snow/rain mix has moved east but we have plenty of snow in the area all around us.

It is pouring out today with flash flood watch/warnings in effect. Temp is 46p which has a really bitey, chilly feel to it.

Tomorrow I am expecting delivery of a new TV shelf type thing with a TV mount on it. I doubt that I will do anything with it until it warms up a bit again so I can put Shan out on the porch while I rput it together and earrange furniture and wiring. If I don't it will likely take me twice as long to do everything. He likes to charge right in and interrupt things.

Wednesday is my annual Wellness checkup, and Thursday is lunch with my sister. We are doing Red Lobster this time. Sue wants to take advantage of the Lobster Fest before it ends. Her husband won't go now because he can't eat most fish anymore because of gout.

MarsGal, you probably are getting our weather of yesterday, although it may be warmer where you are.  Today is not nice, but we should have snow instead of a mix which we had yesterday.  The Weather Channel says we'll start to warm up Wednesday.

You know, Shan is only trying to help you.  But I know what you mean about not having him around while you try to do something tricky.  While I don't do any serious work, Kendrick is always interested in something new - to him.

If the weather would ever calm down, our Retiree group would start up again and meet for lunch once a month.  Maybe in May.  There are four or five of us who get together during good weather and when everyone is back here and not in Florida or Arizona.  It will be good to see them again.

Grand Haven looks interesting - lots of whitecaps.  It is raining against the window where the camera is placed.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Mary Ann - I just looked, and my Grand Haven Picture is back again!  Yes, it does look cold and I can see the rain drops on the camera.  I also see someone walking a dog, right at the waters edge.

I guess the weather is cold and miserable over most of the USA.  Here in Northern CA, we had a low of 44 overnight, and it is now 53 - not expected to go above 55 today.  Funny thing - last night on the local news, the weatherman said to look for a lightning and thunder storm, here this morning.  Sure enough, about a half hour ago, we saw one flash of lightning, and heard one loud clap of thunder.  It's rare to get any here in CA, so both AJ and I hurried to the glass slider, hoping for more . . . but  that was it - our big electrical storm for the year! :D ha ha

Mary Ann

#8376
Marilyn, I can't say we have a lot of electrical storms, but we do have them.  I love storms and used to sit on the front enclosed porch of our cottage and watch the lightning.  Now I can sit on the davenport in my living room and watch the lightning in the north.  We are not in Tornado Alley so I don't worry about those.  We have had two tornadoes in this area that I remember - one about this time of April 1956 and another on Palm Sunday 1965.  We might have wind storms, but nothing that takes in a lot of territory.  Lake Michigan offers some protection from a lot of bad weather.  Storms will be over the lake and by the time the storms hit land, there is no more storm.

Lake Michigan still has whitecaps and rain.  Their temperature is a bit under what we have - 31 for GH and 35 for GR.

Grand Haven looks so cold.  Our morning was chilly but temp. will get up to 70F.  It’s breezy and I can hear the hanging chimes.  They were a housewarming gift from a friend and they have such a pretty sound.

Well, my doctor says I must have had a miraculous recovery 😇 as everything looked great.  I’ll go back in 3 weeks for my prescription for new glasses.

When we lived in Ocala, I was sitting in the sun room when I heard a terrible noise.  Really scared me.  Lightning had hit a tree not far from me.  It stripped some bark off the tree in sections and they ended up in a neighbor’s yard.  I jumped up and ran into the living room where I felt saferâ€"not all those windows. 😊

Mary Ann

Jean, Grand Haven IS cold - the water temperature is 37 degrees, not what I'd like to go swimming in.  Even in summer the water temperature is only about 75 degrees and it is something you have to get used to.  As kids, it was wonderful!

At my cottage, we had no large trees very close by, however, there were some willow trees and larch.  The willow at a neighbor's did get quite large, but the larch was frail.

I like storms, but I'm not wishing for any because "be careful what you wish for; you might get your wish".  In spades!

Goodness. I thought we had it bad here today. Snow and cold. But just look at Grand Haven. Snow and rain. Getting on the camera.  Looks like 2 people out on the beach. Crazy.

FlJean. Glad you eye problem now over. My first one went fine but month later the second one not so good. Also I passed out for some reason after he was finished and had to stay a couple hours more. They had to give me a shot of something before he did it. Something showed up low on the blood test.
Now will they give you a prescription for new glasses and Medicare will cover it. Also get 2 pairs of Dark glasses . I went and got the most expensive pair then. Have to say the ones I have bought since not as good. Think the first were $549. Just got some for $299. Don't like the frames now. I just have to wear for Reading but think I am going to see if I can get use to bifocals soon and have a pair made. I keep loosing mine putting them on and off all the time.

Hi Everyone.  It is another beautiful, but cool, morning here in South Carolina.  It will remain a bit chilly throughout the morning and then warm up this afternoon into the mid-70's.  We are expecting to have a windy day as well just as we did yesterday.  I enjoyed a quiet day at home yesterday.  This morning I have a dental appointment to get the cavity filled that was found when my teeth were cleaned last month.  I have nothing else planned for the day.

Mary Ann, it sounds like your area was fortunate to not experience the storm as other areas did.

MarsGal, that sounds like an interesting device you will get today for your TV.  I know what the wall mounts look like but not aware of how a shelf would work with it.  Does the shelf attach to the wall and the tv bracket also attach to the wall?  It has now been several years since we have eaten at Red Lobster.  That used to be Stacey's favorite as she loved the shrimp.

Marilyne, your weather and temperatures sound very much like what we have been having the past few days.  We do get lightning and thunder in this part of the country.  Over 20 years ago I had lightning strike a tree in my front yard and it knocked out our telephones.  I felt very fortunate it hadn't hit our house.

Jean, that is great news that your eye is OK.  I was very fortunate in that I now only need reading glasses and the inexpensive ones at Walmart do the trick.  I bought a second pair just to keep on my desk rather than pulling them out of my shirt pocket when needed.  My family is having a hard time adjusting to seeing me without glasses but don't need them except for close work.  The heaviest rains and lightning I have ever experienced has been when we were vacationing in Florida and I always seemed to be driving when it occurred.  It usually didn't last long but it was so heavy that I was afraid to stop on the side of the road for fear the car in back of me was following my tail lights and would run into me.

Jeanne, those were expensive glasses.  I think the most expensive either Pat or I have had were less than $300.  The ones I have now are $6.99 a pair and they are very light weight and fit well and work well for what I need.  I don't forget to take mine off because when I try to look beyond my outstretched arms things are blurry with them on.

Mary Ann

Larry, our weather forecast is much like yours, only the numbers are different.  It is windy out and the sun is trying to shine.  We are at 31 degrees now, heading to 40 degrees.

Tom came in from driving and said driving was almost worse than what we had yesterday and I was with him for a few blocks yesterday.  As the temperature warms up, the snow will get more slushy and that won't be good, either.  Then it will freeze at night and create frozen ruts.  Only main roads will be OK because they will be plowed.  I'm happy I don't drive any more.

Did I ever mention that Kendrick was named for Kendrick Lamar, a rap singer?  He just won a Pulitzer Prize in music.  I don't know if he's still a favorite of Annie's, but that is who the cat was named for.  My PT young man laughed thinking of a 93-year-old woman having a cat who was named for a rap singer.  Not guilty - Annie named him.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Mary Ann - I saw the article about Kendrick Lamar, in my newspaper!  I then remembered that Annie named Kendrick (the cat) after him. :) I suppose we could go to YouTube, and listen to some of his music, but I'm not sure that I want to! ha ha

The weather is still unusually cold here for April - low of 38 last night, and will only go to mid 50's today.  More freezing rain tomorrow, but then it's supposed to clear up over the weekend and go up into the 70's.   Not a moment too soon for me . . . I'm not dealing well with this prolonged Spring cold snap.

MarsGal

Larry, I probably could have described the TV stand a bit better. It has three tiered open shelves in which the shelves are three different lengths with the shortest at the top. There is a vertical center bar/brace (?) at the back which extends up to 57" high with a mount mechanism like you see for a wall mount where you attach the TV.

Behind that I will be running the cables/cords through a length of cable protector box which has places all along it for the cables/cords to go in and out where you need them. I can attach it to the wall, but I think I will leave it sit on the floor, perhaps anchoring it with double sided carpet tape. he box is made of that new kind of plastic that is self-extinguishing which is a nice feature. I remember years ago one of the local firemen told me that the plastic PVC piping in the houses would not exactly catch fire, but would melt and continue melting so that the firemen would have to saw piping ahead of the melt to truly make sure the "fire" was extinguished. The plastics are also one of the reasons for the air breathers the firemen should be using, not only against smoke inhalation, but for the noxious chemical fumes from the plastics.

Mary Ann

Marilyn, I called Annie to tell her about Kendrick Lamar's award and, of course, she had no idea what the Pulitzer Prize was.  But she was impressed!  I almost could not find an article, in fact, I could not, so I typed in his name and something came up about the P Prize, so I copied it and e-mailed it to her.  She doesn't read a lot of her e-mail, however, I told her I was going to send a copy of the article, so maybe she will read it.  I refrained from listening to his music too, especially with one titled DAMN!

Marilyn, I've had it with the weather too and I understand there is another storm making its way toward us.  If you're lucky, you won't be affected.

MarsGal, I was glad to read that you plan to anchor the shelf to the floor with heavy tape because my first thought was the TV would be too heavy for the shelf.  Maybe you should anchor the shelf to the wall too, even if you do want the TV at a lower level.  Otherwise you might end up with a shelf, but no TV.

I went to Edge on Windows 10, hoping I could get a good shot of the Soo Locks (I use Firefox) but I got the same message about the cam being no good.

I've spent a very interesting, but very unproductive, morning on the Duluth cams.  I watched two ships come in and one go out.  I was able to follow the ships through the canal, under the bridge, through the harbor until they were almost in their port.  The one ship that left, I was able to follow it in reverse.  During a lull, I fixed myself an egg salad croissant for lunch.

Grand Haven doesn't look any different today than it did yesterday and it still looks very cold.  The water temp is 37 and the air temp is 31.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Mary Ann - Would you please post a link to the Duluth webcam?  I'd like to check in during the day, in hopes of seeing the large ships.  Right now, the only webcams I have on my desktop, are Grand Haven and the bear cam from Brooks Falls, AK, that Patricia posted.  Too early in the season for that one to have anything new, but still fun to look at last year's cam.

I guess I'll have to go to the grocery store this afternoon. I don't feel much like shopping, but we're out of food to put together a decent dinner, so I have no choice.  Last night we scraped together a not so appetizing meal, from frozen dinners, bread that was getting a bit dried out, and ice cream for dessert.  I wouldn't be able to do that again tonight.  I would have suggested eating out last night or tonight, but the hockey playoffs are in full swing, and AJ doesn't want to miss a single minute.

http://www.duluthharborcam.com/p/canal-park-cams.html

Marilyn, the first one is the cam for the bridge through which the ships must pass. The second one is the one to start with because it is the canal and at the right is a list of cam sites.  You can start at the canal, go to the bridge, go to GLA, go to the harbor and see the complete trip.  What I saw today were two ships coming in and one leaving.  They alternated.  It was interesting.

Joan, I'm not sure this is the same site I sent you and if it isn't, it's just a different view of the bridge, just closer.  I was trying to find this site today when the ships were active because a ship would almost be next to you when going through.  I think you got the canal shot so you would have the list available.

Mary Ann

Joy

Mary Ann,  there are 2 webcams that I don't have.   I have the one for the canal and the walkway and one for the bridge, but the one of the close-up of the bridge is a new one to me.  Sure am glad I clicked on that first one.  I was wondering what you meant when you said you followed the ship all through the harbor to almost get to where it would be docking.  I hadn't ever seen that one before.  I have only been able to follow them until they get under the bridge. I love to hear the ships when they signal the welcome horns when they are arriving and leaving.  I guess one is from the bridge people and the other is from the ship.  They do have a different sound.  I saw a ship come in yesterday and was surprised that there were even just a few people watching it.  Looks like it is really slippery to walk on the walkway.

Like you, I love looking at the web cams.  I have quite a few now, also.

Hi Everyone.  Another clear sky this morning and temperatures headed up to the mid-80's this afternoon.  I did get my tooth filled yesterday and it took only about 30 minutes.  This evening we will go to the Church for a chili dinner.  Scott and I may go to the hardware store for a new latch for your wooden fence in back.  It has shifted and the installed latch doesn't work well.  I plan on a simple hook type fastener so the gate stays shut. He said he would come on out this morning and install it for me although I haven't heard anything from him this morning and he may be sleeping in.

Mary Ann, driving on rutted ice and snow isn't a fun thing.  I don't even know who Kendrick Lamar is is but that isn't unusual as don't really know the name of many of the people in today's music or movie industry.

Marilyne, sure hope you see some of the 70 degree weather out your way over the weekend.  Here at least forecasts seem to change a lot day by day.  I just got a coupon from Ruby Tuesday for a buy one entree and get one free for tomorrow so we will likely take advantage of it as it has been awhile since we were at Ruby Tuesdays and the offer is too good to turn down.

MarsGal, thanks for the info on the TV stand.  I now have a good idea of what you have.  The center bar to attach the TV is a really good idea so that the TV isn't accidentally knocked over.  I have never heard of the plastic that is self-extinguishing.  The way I have my computer desk it sits probably three feet out from my double-wide closet and all of the wires are exposed on the back.  It doesn't look the best but sure is easy to get to and it is just the way I want it to be.

Has anyone heard from Patricia?  It seems it has been several days since she posted.  I do hope she is all right and just busy with her studies or other activities.

Joy

Good morning,  Jean, Joan, Marilyne and Larry.

So nice to see the sun shining this morning,.  Still windy and chilly, but the sun does help to cheer me up.

Nothing much going on in my little part of the world. Just so tired of the cold and dreary days,  Hopefully,  the days will start to warm up and stay that way.  Seems we have a beautiful warm day, and the next day we get snowed on, AGAIN!   When will it ever end !!!

I have been watching all the special comments on the passing of Barbara Bush.  She certainly was a remarkable person and such an inspiration to so many. I know she will be terribly  missed by her family and friends.  But, she passed away on her own terms and I am sure that is a blessing to her family.  We all could learn a lot from her wisdom.

I really enjoy seeing all the different parts of our country through the web cams.  I try to keep track of the time difference between the east coast and the canal in Duluth, as it is really exciting to be able to see the ships up close coming and going into the Duluth harbor.

Mary Ann, you mentioned the other day about seeing a boat in the Baltimore harbor the other night.  I am sure  it was one of the Harbor tour boats.  They operate year round, and you can go for a  brunch, lunch or dinner cruise different days.  My family took me one year for my birthday and it is a lot of fun.

Larry, glad you made out well with your dental appointment.  I am not looking  forward to some extensive dental work that I will have to have in a couple weeks.  Since I have to depend on someone to take me,  on a Sat. it is hard to get an appointment quickly.  One of the medicines I take has done a lot of damage to my teeth.  I don't have too many of my own teeth left, so I am sure I am looking to have to get a lower denture, after having a partial for a long time.  I had to cancel a lot of appointments because of my transportation problems.  I can only go on Saturdays and he likes to save those appointments for school kids.  I have been going to this office for over 50 years.  First to the father, and now the son took it over when his dad passed away.  I could go to someone closer to me, but I just hate to think of going to someone new.  I have had dental problems almost all my life,.

Glad you are having some nice weather.

Hope everyone will have a nice day.

Joy

Larry, I e-mailed Patricia a while ago and she isn't going to post any more.  You can catch up with her in the Photos Old and New occasionally.  I don't know if she will check in to see what is going on or not.

Today I think we'll get up into the 40s and by the first of the week we will be in the 50s.  I don't think the sun is shining now, but it is not a dreary daylight we have.

I had not heard of Kendrick Lamar myself until Annie named the cat.  When Tom, a friend, her son and I went to the Gerald Ford Museum, the museum had a feature about today's musicians and he was featured.  I remember one of his songs was being played but I don't remember a thing about it.  I think that means we're "out of the loop".

I always admired Barbara Bush because she seemed so down-to-earth.  And what you saw was what you got (I've always said that about me, but not because of Barbara Bush).  I know a lot of people will miss her.

This year I had to pay income tax to both the Federal and State.  The State cashed my checks a couple of weeks ago and the Federal was taken from my checking account yesterday.  I hope I don't have any more big bills come in because that one checking account is a lot flatter than it was a week ago.  It'll take time to build it up again.

Joy, I am sure the boat I saw was a tour boat on the harbor.  It looked like a triple decker, all windows lit up.

Grand Haven is quiet today, so far, compared to the past couple of days.

Good morning everyone. :). I just looked at all of my new webcams, as well as Grand Haven, but nothing going on anywhere.  I am interested in watching the Duluth cams, because I was there once, in the early 1990's. We borrowed an RV, and went on a road trip to Minnesota, to visit AJ's aunts and cousins.  Our last stop before starting for home, was to Duluth, and then across a bridge,  to Superior, WI, visit an aunt and uncle - his mother's sister and husband.

His uncle had worked on the loading docks in Duluth, for his entire life. We were only there for one day, and I remember that we were disappointed that we saw no large ships while we were there.  It was the first week in June, and the weather was beautiful and sunny throughout Minnesota . . . but Duluth and Superior, were both cold and bleak and cloudy.

Joy - sorry you have to have extensive dental work.  I also need to have a lot of work done, but I just don't want to do it at my age. My dentist retired about three years ago, and I didn't care for the man who took over her practice.  So I actually don't have a dentist right now, but I know I should find one before I have a problem that turns into an emergency.

wjoan

Morning all.  Thought I had better check in here.  Our weather has  warmed up and I will have Dan turn off the Thermostat on Friday when he comes over.
Candy is doing ok, in pain but she does have an appt. on the 24th with one of the Drs.  Hope they will fix her up.

Good afternoon, again sunny but cool, wind was awful yesterday .

MaryAnn I think both Jackie K and Barbar went out the way they wanted too,

Patricia, has been missing for a while. We miss her and hope she is OK

Larry, when you get some of that good Carolina weather  send some ou way. I wore my winter coat yesterday. :o

Mary Ann,  I am sorry to read that Patricia isn't going to be posting in here anymore.  I sure hope nothing was said that upset her.  I always enjoyed reading her messages  about the area where she lives.  If you keep in touch with her, let her know that she will be missed.   I don't always go to the Photo pages everyday, but will try to check them more often now.

Marilyne,  unfortunately, I really don't want to go through all this anticipated dental work, but it is something I have to do.  It is  just something that I have to do and want to just get it all over with. Hopefully, it won't take all summer.

Joan, sure hope that Candy will feel better soon.  She has been dealing with that pain for a long time now.  Not easy to do.

I wish you could send some of your warmer weather my way. I had to turn the thermostat up again this morning for a while.  I just can't stand to be cold.  My electric bill this month was $20 higher than it was last month.  I just hope we don't go right into summer without having some nice warm spring days.  The flowers are just so slow making an appearance.

Hope everyone will have a nice afternoon.

I made a trip via all of the cam sites and nothing much was going on.  There may be a schedule about what ships will be going through Duluth and if I find one, I'll let everyone know.  I think what I had was for the Soo and I can't get there anymore.

Joan, you said you weren't interested in the bridge at Duluth.  I would suggest you put the site with your other sites because when the ships go through the channel, they next go through the bridge area.  The road rises for the ships and when they've completed their passage, the road comes back down.  I had never followed a ship from start to finish as I did yesterday.  Watching them can be time consuming, but if you watch only in the channel and past the bridge, that's the most interesting part.

Marilyn and Joy, I lost my long-time dentist about 40+ years ago and did not go to anyone for four years.  My dentist said at the time there were a lot of good dentists in the north end and did not recommend anyone.  Later on, I really resented that because I had gone to him since I was a kid.  Anyway, I found a dentist near work and ended up disliking him intensely!!!  I developed severe pain in a tooth (turned out to be abscessed) and Norm suggested I go to a dentist who had recently bought a car from him and the office was close to home.  Also the dentist had gone to school where we had gone and had had my dad as a teacher.  I went there and I'm still going to the same practice, however, the dentist died a few years ago and his replacement is now my dentist.  I still have my own roots but I have at least a dozen crowns.

Joy, I'm not going to give Patricia's reason for not posting, but I will say it was something not said instead of something said.  It was a legitimate complaint, maybe not one I would have used, but it was legit.  I may even have contributed to her feelings.
